RESUMEN

The band gap of the heterostructure determines the withstand voltage. It is very important to regulate the band gap of heterojunctions and to investigate their electrical properties by applying external electric field. Based on density functional theory (DFT), ZnO/GaN vertical heterostructures with two stacking configurations (AB/BA and AB/AB, named H1 and H2, respectively) are constructed. The external electric field and vacancy defects of Zn, Ga, O and N atoms (VZn, VGa, VO and VN) are applied to analyze the electrical properties. The band gap can be tuned from 2.07 eV to 0 eV in H1 and 1.53 eV-0 eV in H2. As the electric field increases, H1 has stronger withstand voltage (-0.84-0.56 V/Å) than H2 (-0.26-0.26 V/Å). In addition, the structures deform obviously with the effect of vacancy defects, but remain stable. The presence of VGa and VN enables H1 and H2 to exhibits metal conductivity and VO change the band types of H1 and H2 from direct to indirect. The results of charge density difference (CDD) prove that a zero potential region and a weak electric field occur at the position of VZn and VO, respectively. Likewise, the external electric field is applied to the defective heterostructures. The bandgap also exhibits strong tunability, and the heterostructure with VO has the largest electric field modulation width. The above results indicate that ZnO/GaN exhibits excellent electrical properties with the influence of VO, which represents potential applications in electronic devices.

RESUMEN

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is originated from the mucus-producing glands of the lungs. The involvement of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) has been discovered in multiple diseases. In the present research, we aimed to unmask the role of C2CD4D and THEM5 antisense RNA 1 (C2CD4D-AS1) in LUAD. RT-qPCR or western blot analysis was respectively applied in the detection of RNA or protein expressions. The function of C2CD4D-AS1 in LUAD was assessed by functional assays. Through ChIP, RNA pull down, DNA pull down, RIP and luciferase reporter assays, the in-depth regulatory mechanism of C2CD4D-AS1 in LUAD was explored. C2CD4D-AS1 was dramatically overexpressed in LUAD tissues and cell lines. As a result, depletion of C2CD4D-AS1 significantly repressed cell proliferation, migration, invasion and stimulated cell apoptosis in LUAD. Mechanistically, ETS variant transcription factor 4 (ETV4) activated the transcription of C2CD4D-AS1 and stimulated its up-regulation in LUAD cells, thus affecting LUAD cell biological functions. Furthermore, C2CD4D-AS1 sponged microRNA-3681-3p (miR-3681-3p) and regulated NIMA-related kinase 2 (NEK2), thus participating in modulating LUAD cell biological behaviors. To conclude, C2CD4D-AS1 up-regulation induced by ETV4 enhanced NEK2 expression by sequestering miR-3681-3p to contribute to the malignant behaviors of LUAD cells.

RESUMEN

There is some doubt that all nodules <8 mm are really mainly benign and that simple follow-up is adequate in all cases. The purpose of this study is to create a predictive model for the diagnosis of benign and malignant small pulmonary nodules. This was a retrospective case-control study of patients who had undergone pulmonary nodule resection at the Zhejiang University Jinhua Hospital. Patients with pulmonary nodules of ≤10 mm in size on chest high-resolution computed tomography were included. Patients' demographic characteristics, clinical features, and high-resolution computed tomography findings were collected. Logistic regression and receiver-operating characteristic analysis were used to create a predictive model for malignancy.A total of 216 patients were included: 160 with malignant and 56 with benign nodules. Nodule density (odds ratio [OR] = 0.996, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.993-0.998, P = .001), vascular penetration sign (OR = 3.49, 95% CI: 1.39-8.76, P = .008), nodule type (OR = 4.27, 95% CI: 1.48-12.29, P = .007), and incisure surrounding nodules (OR = 0.18, 95% CI: 0.04-0.84, P = .03) were independently associated with malignant nodules. These factors were used to create a mathematical model that had an area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve of 0.744. Using a cut-off of 0.762 resulted in 63.1% sensitivity and 75.0% specificity. This study proposes a pulmonary nodule prediction model that can estimate benign/malignant lung nodules with good sensitivity and specificity. Mixed ground-glass nodules, vascular penetration sign, density of lung nodules, and the absence of incisure signs are independently associated with malignant lung nodules.

RESUMEN

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of 7, 8-diacetoxy-4-methylcoumarin (DAMTC) on lung adenocarcinoma cells (A549) and analyze the molecular mechanism underlying DAMTC-treated lung adenocarcinoma. Gene expression profile GSE29698 was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in 3 DAMTC-treated A549 samples were analyzed and compared with 3 DAMTC-untreated samples using the limma package. Gene Ontology (GO) and pathway enrichment analyses of DEGs were performed, followed by the functional annotation and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network construction. Finally, pathway crosstalk analysis was conducted. A total of 500 upregulated and 389 downregulated DEGs were identified. The upregulated and downregulated DEGs were enriched in different GO terms and pathways, including metabolic process, p53 signaling pathway and metabolic pathways. A total of 9 DEGs were determined to have node degrees >16 in the PPI network, including interleukin 6 (IL6), MDM2 oncogene, E3 ubiquitin protein ligase (MDM2), cell division cycle 42 (CDC42) and MYC associated factor X (MAX). Furthermore, numerous DEGs were identified to function as transcription factors and tumor suppressor genes, including histone deacetylase 3 and MAX. Additionally, apoptosis, tight junction, and endocytosis pathway were determined to cross-talk with small cell and non-small cell lung cancer. The DEGs (IL6, MDM2, CDC42 and MAX) involved in different pathways, including the p53 signaling pathway and endocytosis, may be the potential targets for DAMTC in lung adenocarcinoma. The elucidation of the underlying mechanism of the DAMTC effect may make it a potential drug.

RESUMEN

ZnO is identified as one of the promising coating materials in optical fiber for ammonia gas sensors. In this work, three-dimensional ZnO nanoflowers are fabricated via a facile hydrothermal method and used as sensitive coating materials for optical fiber ammonia gas sensors. Results show that the sensor with ZnO nanoflowers exhibits a high sensitivity of 5.75 pm/(µg·L-1) for ammonia concentration ranging from 0 to 5460 µg·L-1, which is more than 2.6 times higher than that of the sensor with a coating of ZnO microspheres [2.2 pm/(µg·L-1)].

RESUMEN

A graphene-oxide-coated interferometric microfiber-sensor-based polarization-maintaining optical fiber is proposed for highly sensitive detecting for ethanol vapor concentration at room temperature in this paper. The strong sensing capability of the sensor to detect the concentration of ethanol vapor is demonstrated, taking advantage of the evanescent field enhancement and gas absorption of a graphene-oxide-coated microfiber. The transmission spectrum of the sensor varies with concentrations of ethanol vapor, and the redshift of the transmission spectrum has been analyzed for the concentration range from 0 to 80 ppm with sensitivity as high as 0.138 nm/ppm. The coated graphene oxide layer induces the evanescent field enhancement and gas selective adsorption, which improves sensitivity and selectivity of the microfiber gas sensor for ethanol vapor detection.

RESUMEN

In this paper, we propose a microfiber-plane-grating composite optical waveguide (MPGCOW), which is formed by immobilizing a tapered microfiber on the surface of a plane grating with one defect, for gas refractive index (RI) sensing. Its optical properties and gas RI sensing properties are investigated by the finite difference time domain method. Results show that the MPGCOW has a photonic stop band and is very sensitive to the ambient gas RI variation. The largest gas RI sensing sensitivity of 486.67 nm/RIU and detection limit of 2×10-6 are obtained by immersing the structure in the mixture gas of N2 and He with various mixture ratios.

RESUMEN

A fiber humidity sensor based on Fiber-Bragg Grating (FBG) sandwiched in single-mode-multimode fiber core-single mode (SMS) fiber structure is proposed and demonstrated. When the surrounding humidity changes, the central wavelength of FBG remains unchanged for it is insensitive to humidity, while the interference spectrum of SMS fiber structure will shift for it is sensitive to the surrounding humidity. Hence, the shift of the SMS fiber structure interference spectrum with humidity could modulate the FBG core mode. Through measuring the reflected power of the FBG core mode the detection of humidity can be realized. The beam propagation of the SMS fiber structure with different lengths of multimode fiber core (MMFC), diameters of MMFC, and surrounding refractive indices are theoretically simulated with beam propagation method. Theoretical simulation indicates that the output core mode power coefficients shift with surrounding humidity of the SMS fiber structure. Experimental results show that the sensor has a linear response to humidity with enhanced sensitivity of 0.06 dBm·(%RH)-1 in the humidity range of 45%~95%RH with length of 35 mm and diameter of 85 µm. The temperature effect of the sensor is also discussed, the temperature sensitivity is 0.008 nm·â„ƒ-1 in the temperature range of 20~80 ℃ and the measurement error of temperature is 0.047% RH·â„ƒ-1. Such cost-effective, high sensitive, and reflective power detection based optical fiber humidity sensor could be used in humidity sensing applications.

RESUMEN

In this paper, a compact slow-light microfiber coil resonator (MCR) is fabricated and the slow-light properties of it are analyzed and tested. Based on coupled-wave theory, a theoretical model for describing the slow-light propagation in the MCR is established. Experimentally, the MCR slow-light element is fabricated and its relative slow-light time delay is measured. The group velocity of the light pulse in the MCR slow-light element can be reduced to about 0.47c (c is the speed of light in vacuum) and the shape of the light pulse passing through the MCR is well preserved.

RESUMEN

G-triplexes are non-canonical DNA structures formed by G-rich sequences with three G-tracts. Putative G-triplex-forming sequences are expected to be more prevalent than putative G-quadruplex-forming sequences. However, the research on G-triplexes is rare. In this work, the effects of molecular crowding and several physiologically important metal ions on the formation and stability of G-triplexes were examined using a combination of circular dichroism, thermodynamics, optical tweezers and calorimetry techniques. We determined that molecular crowding conditions and cations, such as Na(+), K(+), Mg(2+) and Ca(2+), promote the formation of G-triplexes and stabilize these structures. Of these four metal cations, Ca(2+) has the strongest stabilizing effect, followed by K(+), Mg(2+), and Na(+) in a decreasing order. The binding of K(+) to G-triplexes is accompanied by exothermic heats, and the binding of Ca(2+) with G-triplexes is characterized by endothermic heats. G-triplexes formed from two G-triad layers are not stable at physiological temperatures; however, G-triplexes formed from three G-triads exhibit melting temperatures higher than 37°C, especially under the molecular crowding conditions and in the presence of K(+) or Ca(2+). These observations imply that stable G-triplexes may be formed under physiological conditions.

RESUMEN

A simple mix-and-detect photoluminescence method was developed for the turn-on detection of acidic amino acids. To achieve this, graphene quantum dots (GQDs), which emit both down-conversion and up-conversion photoluminescence were prepared by solvothermal synthesis. The carboxylic acid-rich surface not only increases the water solubility of the prepared GQDs, but also makes Eu(3+)-triggered GQDs aggregation possible, thus causing the photoluminescence quenching of GQDs. The quenched photoluminescence can be recovered by the competition between acidic amino acids and GQDs for Eu(3+). Under optimized conditions, sensitive and specific acidic amino acids quantitation can be achieved by utilizing the changes in either down-conversion or up-conversion photoluminescence. Up-conversion mode gives a little lower detection limit than the down-conversion one. Nearly overlapped calibration curves were obtained for the two acidic amino acids, glutamic acid (Glu) and aspartic acid (Asp), thus suggesting that the proposed method can be used not only for the quantitation of individual acidic amino acids, but also for the detection of total amount of them.

RESUMEN

Optical fiber sensing technology is one of the very promising techniques in sensing fields. A high sensitivity high temperature sensor based on inline optical fiber Mach-Zehnder(M-Z) interferometer by using standard single mode fiber with two waist-enlarged bitapers is proposed in the present paper. The waist-enlarged bitapers are considered as couplers, the distance between the two bitapers is the sensing arm. The light in the lead-in fiber core couples into the sensing arms' fiber core and cladding by the first bitaper, and then propagate in them. The phase difference between core mode and cladding mode is produced when the light reaches the second bitaper. Then the second bitaper couples the light into the lead-out single-mode fiber to get the interference spectrum. The sensors with different length were fabricated. The relationship between the sensor length and interference period, and the temperature response of the.sensor were studied by experiments. The results show that the 35 mm long sensor has a high sensitivity of 0.115 nm x degrees C(-1) in the range of 30-400 degrees C. The transmission spectrum of the sensor was also analyzed by the fast Fourier transform. It shows that only LP01 mode and LP08 mode propagate in the sensor. Thesensor has advantages of small size, high precision, and immunity to electromagnetic inteference. In addition, it is of easy fabrication, high signal-to-noise ratio, light weight, and high sensitivity, and could be operated under high temperature. This kind of sensor is a good candidate for high temperature measurement of hot gas, oil and gas well logging and other areas.

RESUMEN

The temperature and stress characteristic of photonic band gap structure resonant cavities with square and graphite lattice have been studied by finite-difference time-domain method. The results show that the resonant cavities, both square and graphite lattice, have more and more resonant frequency with the cavity enlarging. And the curves between the resonant frequency and stress have better linearity. When the cavity enlarges enough, the curve between resonant frequency and temperature will become sectionalized line from nonlinear curve. Especially, the temperature sensitivity will be descending as the cavity is enlarging. Nevertheless, once some structures are put in the center of the cavity, the temperature sensitivity will be rising fast for this kind of cavity. Obviously, this character is convenient for us to achieve the specification measurement for temperature and stress.

RESUMEN

A simultaneous measurement system of temperature and strain is proposed and fabricated, which has advantages of low cost and easy structure. The system is formed by combining a long period fiber grating with a polarization-maintaining fiber Sagnac loop. The transmission spectrum of the fiber Sagnac interferometer is modulated by LPFG. The simultaneous measurement of temperature and strain can be realized. The experimental results show that the wavelength of the dip is varied with temperature changing and applied strain on polarization-maintaining fiber, and the intensity of the dip is changed with applied strain on LPFG. The temperature sensitivity of the system is 0.181 81 nm x degrees C(-1), the strain sensitivity of LPFG is 0. 005 283 dB x mu epsilon(-1), and the strain sensitivity of polarization-maintaining fiber Sagnac loop is 0.015 72 nm x mu epsilon(-1). The experimental system indicates that the proposal is feasible and has an application prospect.
