RESUMEN

The members of the miR-29 family play an important role in the process of viral infection. The sheep pox epidemic has hindered the development of the livestock industry worldwide. The aim of this study was to analyze the action mechanism of miR-29a during sheep pox virus (SPPV) infection. We found that during viral infection, miR-29a showed a trend of increasing, then decreasing, and then again increasing. It was determined that AKT3 was a target gene of miR-29a, and miR-29a might be involved in the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway. SPPV was able to inhibit cell proliferation and promote apoptosis, and miR-29a reversed the inhibition of cell proliferation by SPPV and the promotion of apoptosis. This study provides an experimental basis and theoretical foundation for the pathogenic mechanism of SPPV infection, as well as contributing to the proposal of new strategies for the development of anti-sheep-poxvirus drugs.

We have demonstrated the capability of spectral multiplexing in multi-distance diffractive imaging, enabling the reconstruction of samples with diverse spectral responses. While previous methods such as ptychography utilize redundancy in radial diffraction data to achieve information multiplexing, they typically require capturing a substantial amount of diffraction data. In contrast, our approach effectively harnesses the redundancy information in axial diffraction data. This significantly reduces the amount of diffraction data required and relaxes the stringent requirements on optical path stability.

BACKGROUND: Pyroptosis is an inflammatory form of regulated necrosis that has been implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, the role of lipid peroxidation in pyroptosis and its underlying mechanisms in COPD remain unclear. METHODS: In vitro, human bronchial epithelial cells (Beas-2b cells) were exposed to cigarette smoke extract (CSE) for 24 h. In vivo, mice were exposed to cigarette smoke (CS) for 4 weeks. To investigate the role of xCT, we used siRNA and AAV6 to conditionally knock down xCT in vitro and in vivo, respectively. RESULTS: The administration of ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1), a ferroptosis inhibitor that inhibits lipid peroxidation, significantly reduced the cytotoxicity of CSE to Beas-2b cells and mitigated inflammatory exudation, lung injury and mucus hypersecretion in mice with CS-induced COPD. Fer-1 suppressed gasdermin D (GSDMD)-mediated pyroptosis caused by CS in vitro and in vivo. However, in Beas-2b cells and the lung epithelial cells of mice, conditional knockdown of xCT (a negative regulatory factor of lipid peroxidation) inhibited the xCT/GPx4 axis, leading to more severe lipid peroxidation and GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis during cigarette smoke exposure. Moreover, we found that CS promoted the degradation of xCT through the ubiquitin proteasome system (UPS) and that treatment with MG132 significantly inhibited the degradation of xCT and downregulated the expression of pyroptosis-related proteins. CONCLUSION: The results of this study suggested that the ubiquitination-mediated degradation of xCT drives GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis in COPD and is a potential therapeutic target for COPD.

PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial (ChiCTR2000032879) assessed the safety and efficacy of toripalimab combined with chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced cervical squamous cell carcinoma. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Twenty-two patients, regardless of their programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) status, received toripalimab combined with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). CCRT included cisplatin (40 mg/m2, once weekly for 5 weeks), radiotherapy (45-50.4 Gy/25-28 Fx, 5 fractions weekly), followed by brachytherapy (24-30 Gy/3-5 Fx) and toripalimab (240 mg, intravenous) on days 1, 22 and 43 during CCRT. The primary endpoints were safety and 2-year progression-free survival (PFS). The secondary endpoints included 2-year local control (LC), local regional control and overall survival (OS). RESULTS: All patients successfully completed CCRT and toripalimab treatment. Grade III and higher adverse events (AEs) were observed in 11 patients (11/22, 50%), and no patient experienced grade V AEs. The objective response rate (ORR) was 100%. At the data cutoff (June 30, 2023), the median follow-up was 31.8 months (9.5 to 37.8 months). The 2-year PFS rate was 81.8%. The 2-year LC and local regional control rates were both 95.5%, and the 2-year OS rate was 90.9%. CONCLUSIONS: Toripalimab combined with CCRT achieved good tolerance and showed promising anti-tumor effects in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer.

Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) with a wide color gamut and high luminescent efficiency are promising for next-generation electronic and photonic devices. However, precise and scalable patterning of QDs without degrading their properties and their integration into commercially relevant devices, such as digitally addressable QD light-emitting diode (QLED) displays, remain challenging. Here, we develop electronically optimized diazirine-based cross-linkers for nondestructive, direct photopatterning of QDs and, ultimately, building the active-matrix QLED displays. The key to the cross-linker design is the introduction of electron-donating substituents that permit the formation of ground-state singlet carbenes for air-stable and benign QD photopatterning. Under ambient conditions, these cross-linkers enable the patterning of heavy metal-free QDs at a resolution of over 13,000 pixels per inch using commercial i-line photolithography. The patterned QD layers fully preserved their optical and optoelectronic properties. Pixelated electroluminescent devices with patterned InP/ZnSe/ZnS QD layers show a peak external quantum efficiency of 15.3% and a maximum luminance of about 40,000 cd m-2, outperforming those made by existing QD patterning approaches. We further show the seamless integration of patterned QLEDs with thin-film transistor circuits and the fabrication of dual-color active-matrix displays. These results underscore the importance of designing photochemistry for QD patterning, and promise the implementation of direct photopatterning methods in manufacturing commercial QLED displays and other integrated QD device platforms.

BACKGROUND: Diabetic macroangiopathy has been the main cause of death and disability in diabetic patients. The mechanisms underlying smooth muscle cell transformation and metabolic reprogramming other than abnormal glucose and lipid metabolism remain to be further explored. METHOD: Single-cell transcriptome, spatial transcriptome and spatial metabolome sequencing were performed on anterior tibial artery from 11 diabetic patients with amputation. Multi-omics integration, cell communication analysis, time series analysis, network analysis, enrichment analysis, and gene expression analysis were performed to elucidate the potential molecular features. RESULT: We constructed a spatial multiomics map of diabetic blood vessels based on multiomics integration, indicating single-cell and spatial landscape of transcriptome and spatial landscape of metabolome. At the same time, the characteristics of cell composition and biological function of calcified regions were obtained by integrating spatial omics and single cell omics. On this basis, our study provides favorable evidence for the cellular fate of smooth muscle cells, which can be transformed into pro-inflammatory chemotactic smooth muscle cells, macrophage-like smooth muscle cells/foam-like smooth muscle cells, and fibroblast/chondroblast smooth muscle cells in the anterior tibial artery of diabetic patients. The smooth muscle cell phenotypic transformation is driven by transcription factors net including KDM5B, DDIT3, etc. In addition, in order to focus on metabolic reprogramming apart from abnormal glucose and lipid metabolism, we constructed a metabolic network of diabetic vascular activation, and found that HNMT and CYP27A1 participate in diabetic vascular metabolic reprogramming by combining public data. CONCLUSION: This study constructs the spatial gene-metabolism map of the whole anterior tibial artery for the first time and reveals the characteristics of vascular calcification, the phenotypic transformation trend of SMCs, and the transcriptional driving network of SMCs phenotypic transformation of diabetic macrovascular disease. In the perspective of combining the transcriptome and metabolome, the study demonstrates the activated metabolic pathways in diabetic blood vessels and the key genes involved in diabetic metabolic reprogramming.

Long-term continuous cropping of tobacco causes dysbiosis of soil microbial communities, the imbalance of soil nutrients, and the increase of pathogenic bacteria, which will slow the growth and development of tobacco plants, reduce the production quality, and cause significant losses to tobacco production and tobacco farmers. The application of Potassium fulvic acid can not only provide nutrients, but also inhibit the propagation of pathogens in soil along with raising the amount of organic matter in the soil, which is an effective way to improve soil health. In this experiment, Tobacco variety SNT60 was used as the test material, and 6 treatments were set up by pot test, they were: no fertilisation control group (CK), tobacco special fertiliser (NPK), 3.45 g/kg of potassium fulvic acid fertiliser (T1), 4.65 g/kg of potassium fulvic acid fertiliser (T2), 5.85 g/kg of potassium fulvic acid fertiliser (T3), 7.05 g/kg of potassium fulvic acid fertiliser (T4), Ten replications were set up for each treatment and the soil and fertiliser were mixed and potted before transplanting, 70% as basal fertiliser and 30% as supplementary fertiliser. We also analyzed soil properties, soil microorganisms and agronomic traits of tobacco plants in different treatments to provide reference for mitigating tobacco succession barrier. The test results are as follows: 4.65 g/kg of potassium fulvic acid fertiliser (T2) treatment was the best, soil organic matter, quick nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, pH, soil catalase, soil sucrase, and soil urease content, compared to CK control, increased by 22.04%, 43.12%, 96.21%, 381.79%, 25.43%, 91.69%, 262.07% and 93.16%. In terms of microbial community, application of potassium fulvic acid fertiliser significantly increased the relative abundance of Ascomycetes, Chlorobacterium, Bacillus, Proteobacteria and Tephritobacterium in the soil. Meanwhile, 4.65 g/kg of potassium fulvic acid fertiliser (T2) promoted the growth of tobacco plants, improved leaf photosynthetic capacity, and enhanced plant disease resistance. This experiment provides practical measures to improve the microbial community of tobacco continuous cropping soils and to reduce the incidence of diseases.

This study aims to investigate the mechanism of Xueshuantong Injection(XST) on pulmonary fibrosis induced by bleomycin(BLM) in rats based on the coagulation cascade pathway. Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into sham surgery group,model group, pirfenidone(PFD, 50 mg·kg~(-1)) group, and 27, 54, and 81 mg·kg~(-1) XST groups. The rat model of pulmonary fibrosis was established by intratracheal injection of BLM(5 mg·kg~(-1)). After 24 hours, the administration groups were given corresponding drugs, while the sham surgery group and model group were given equal volumes of saline. On the 28th day, samples were collected,and the imaging and collagen fiber changes in the lungs of rats were observed. Immunofluorescence(IF) method was used to detect the expression level of alpha-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA), collagen Ⅰ(Col-Ⅰ), E-cadherin(E-cad), and vimentin(Vim). Western blot was used to determine the protein expression of α-SMA, Col-Ⅰ, Vim, and E-cad. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)was used to detect the levels of prothrombin fragment(F1 + 2), thrombin-antithrombin complex(TAT), soluble fibrin monomer complex(SFMC), and rat fibrinogen degradation products(FDP) in rat lung tissue. Finally, the mRNA and protein levels of protease activated receptor 1(PAR-1) were detected by RT-qPCR, western blot, and IF. Compared with the model group, the scanning of the lungs of rats receiving XST treatment also exhibited patchy and non-homogeneous shadows, but these shadows were less dense than those in the model group. At the same time, there was a significant decrease in Col-Ⅰ fibers in the lungs of rats, and XST could inhibit epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT) and downregulate α-SMA and Col-Ⅰ protein expression. In the aspect of the coagulation system, administration of 81 mg·kg~(-1) XST significantly reduced the levels of SFMC and FDP. Meanwhile, 81 mg·kg~(-1) XST significantly downregulated the mRNA and protein levels of PAR-1. XST has an anti-pulmonary fibrosis effect in rats, and its mechanism may be related to the downregulation of PAR-1 to rebalance the coagulation cascade pathway.

The association of serum N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) with insulin resistance (IR), as measured by homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), in the general population is unclear. Our study aimed to characterize its relationship in a large community-based population. Subjects were recruited from the Danyang city between 2017 and 2019. Serum NT-proBNP was measured using an enhanced chemiluminescence immunoassay. IR was defined by a HOMA-IR in the highest sex-specific quartile. Categorical and continuous analyses were performed with sex-specific NT-proBNP tertiles and naturally logarithmically transformed NT-proBNP (lnNTproBNP), respectively. The 2945 participants (mean age 52.8 years) included 1728 (58.7%) women, 1167 (39.6%) hypertensive patients, 269 (9.1%) diabetic patients, and 736 (25.0%) patients with IR. In simple and multivariate-adjusted regression analyses, serum lnNTproBNP were both negatively associated with HOMA-IR (ß = -0.19 to -0.25; p < 0.0001). Similar results were also obtained in multiple subgroup analyses. In multiple logistic regression analyses, elevated serum NT-proBNP was associated with lower risks of IR (odds ratios: 0.68 and 0.39; 95% confidence intervals: 0.61-0.74 and 0.30-0.50 for lnNTproBNP and top vs. bottom tertiles, respectively; p < 0.0001). In conclusion, increased serum NT-proBNP level was strongly associated with a lower risk of IR in Chinese.

Human-derived macrophages are notoriously difficult to infect with HIV-1-based lentiviruses, posing a limitation to the advancement of chimeric antigen receptor macrophage (CAR-M) therapy. Here, we present a protocol for generating human chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-engineered macrophages using the viral protein Vpx (encoded by the Sooty Mangabey simian immunodeficiency virus [SIV] and HIV-2 lineages) incorporated into the lentivirus vector, which enhances infection efficiency. We describe steps for cell cultivation, lentivirus production, concentration, infection procedures, and efficiency assessments. This protocol provides a foundation to study macrophage manipulation, especially with CAR or other immune engagers. BACKGROUND: Theme game-based learning has the potential to enrich student learning experiences, leading to improved learning outcomes. Yet, there remains a research gap regarding its application in addressing psychiatric violence, leaving uncertainties about the comparative advantages of theme game-based learning over situational simulation learning strategies. OBJECTIVES: The goal was to measure the effect of integrating theme game-based learning into psychiatric violence risk assessment and response training on nursing student psychiatric violence-related knowledge, skills, and self-confidence. DESIGN: This study was a randomized controlled, pre-test, and post-test trial. SETTING: The study was conducted at a medical university in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. PARTICIPANTS: There were 103 third-year nursing undergraduates (intervention group = 51, control group = 52) in the study. METHODS: An Objective Structured Clinical Exam and the Workplace Violence Management Ability Assessment Questionnaire for Intern Nursing Students were used to assess student skills. The knowledge test and the Confidence in Coping with Patient Aggression Instrument were used to measure student knowledge and self-confidence level before and after intervention. RESULTS: Nursing students in the theme game-based group demonstrated significantly superior skills and confidence in violence risk assessment and response compared with students in the situational simulation group (p < 0.001, p = 0.039, p = 0.006, respectively). However, there was no significant difference in knowledge of violence risk assessment and response between the two groups (p = 0.510). CONCLUSION: Theme game-based learning in psychiatric violence risk assessment and response training appeared effective in enhancing the violence management abilities of nursing students.

The association between vitamin D concentrations and the occurrence of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) remains a topic of ongoing debate. In order to provide a comprehensive and updated review, we conducted this meta-analysis to further investigate the relationship between vitamin D concentrations and DFUs occurrence. The following databases, including Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Web of Science, PubMed, CBM, CNKI, WANFANG DATA and VIP Database, were systematically searched for studies published up to Dec. 20th, 2023. The combined estimation was calculated using both fixed-effects and random-effects models. The overall effect size was reported as a weighted mean difference (WMD) with a corresponding 95% confidence interval (95%CI). Data analysis was performed utilizing Review Manager 5.4 and Stata 14. The Protocol has been registered in PROSPERO CRD42024503468. This updated meta-analysis, incorporating thirty-six studies encompassing 11,298 individuals with or without DFUs, demonstrated a significant association between vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency and an elevated risk of DFUs occurrence (< 25 nmol/L, OR 3.28, P < 0.00001; < 50 nmol/L, OR 2.25, P < 0.00001; < 75 nmol/L, OR 1.67, P = 0.0003). Vitamin D concentrations were significantly lower in individuals with DFUs compared to those without DFUs (P < 0.00001). Subgroup analyses consistently demonstrated this trend among the older population (> 50 years, P < 0.00001), individuals with long duration of diabetes (> 10 years, P < 0.00001), and those with poor glycemic control (mean HbA1c 8%-9% and > 9%, P < 0.00001).

AIM: To investigate the current situation and influencing factors of self-management ability in dry eye patients in west China. METHODS: A total of 265 patients clinically diagnosed with dry eye received a convenience survey questionnaire at West China Hospital of Sichuan University. All participants completed the rating scale of health self-management skill for adults (AHSMSRS), Huaxi Emotional-Distress Index (HEI), e-health literacy scale (e-HEALS) and Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (Brief-IPQ). A generalized linear model was employed to establish a multivariate linear model with demographic data, psychological state, e-HEALS, and illness perception as independent variables and health self-management skill score as the dependent variable. RESULTS: The mean score for health self-management skill was 165.58±15.79. Multivariate analysis revealed that advanced age, better illness perception and improved psychological state were associated with better health self-management ability among dry eye patients. Furthermore, the health self-management ability of patients with a disease duration less than 1y was found to be higher compared to those with a disease duration exceeding 1y. CONCLUSION: The health self-management ability of dry eye patients in west China is relatively high. Age, duration of disease, illness perception and psychological state are the influencing factors on the health self-management ability of dry eye patients.

Colorectal cancer plays a dominant role in cancer-related deaths, primarily due to the absence of obvious early-stage symptoms. Whole-stage colorectal disease diagnosis is crucial for assessing lesion evolution and determining treatment plans. However, locality difference and disease progression lead to intra-class disparities and inter-class similarities for colorectal lesion representation. In addition, interpretable algorithms explaining the lesion progression are still lacking, making the prediction process a "black box". In this paper, we propose IPNet, a dual-branch interpretable network with progressive loss for whole-stage colorectal disease diagnosis. The dual-branch architecture captures unbiased features representing diverse localities to suppress intra-class variation. The progressive loss function considers inter-class relationship, using prior knowledge of disease evolution to guide classification. Furthermore, a novel Grain-CAM is designed to interpret IPNet by visualizing pixel-wise attention maps from shallow to deep layers, providing regions semantically related to IPNet's progressive classification. We conducted whole-stage diagnosis on two image modalities, i.e., colorectal lesion classification on 129,893 endoscopic optical images and rectal tumor T-staging on 11,072 endoscopic ultrasound images. IPNet is shown to surpass other state-of-the-art algorithms, accordingly achieving an accuracy of 93.15% and 89.62%. Especially, it establishes effective decision boundaries for challenges like polyp vs. adenoma and T2 vs. T3. The results demonstrate an explainable attempt for colorectal lesion classification at a whole-stage level, and rectal tumor T-staging by endoscopic ultrasound is also unprecedentedly explored. IPNet is expected to be further applied, assisting physicians in whole-stage disease diagnosis and enhancing diagnostic interpretability.

RESUMEN

The incidence of lung cancer has become the highest among all cancer types globally, also standing as a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Lung cancer is broadly divided into small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with the latter accounting for 85% of total cases. SRY-box transcription factor 4 (SOX4), a crucial transcription factor, has been found to play a key role in the development of various cancers. However, the association between SOX4 and NSCLC is still unclear. This study investigated the clinical relevance of SOX4 and its potential mechanisms in the progression of NSCLC. Analysis of our NSCLC patient cohort revealed a significant increase in SOX4 levels in cancerous tissues, indicating its role as an independent prognostic indicator for NSCLC. In vitro experiments demonstrated that elevated SOX4 expression facilitated NSCLC cell migration, invasion, and EMT. Functionally, SOX4 drives NSCLC progression by enhancing the transcription and expression of B-cell-specific moloney leukemia virus insertion site 1 (BMI1). The oncogenic impact of SOX4-induced BMI1 expression on NSCLC advancement was validated through both in vivo and in vitro studies. In addition, our findings showed that BMI1 promoted the ubiquitination of histone H2A (H2Aub), leading to decreased zinc finger protein 24 (ZNF24) expression, which subsequently triggered vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A) secretion in NSCLC cells, thereby promoting NSCLC angiogenesis. Moreover, we evaluated the therapeutic potential of a BMI1 inhibitor in combination with Bevacizumab for NSCLC treatment using orthotopic models. The data presented in our study reveal a previously unrecognized role of the SOX4-BMI1 axis in promoting NSCLC progression and angiogenesis. This research significantly contributes to our knowledge of the interplay between SOX4 and BMI1 in NSCLC, potentially paving the way for the development of targeted therapies for this disease.

Understanding the relationship between sludge yield stress (σy) and dewatering performance is essential for optimizing sludge conditioning processes. This study systematically investigates the effects of various conditioning methods-including thermal hydrolysis (TH), freezing/thawing (FT), anaerobic digestion (AD), polyaluminum chloride (PAC), polyacrylamide (PAM), and Fenton treatment (Fenton)-on sludge yield stress and its correlation with dewatering efficiency. Using linear regression, partial least squares regression (PLSR), and correlation heatmap analyses, we reveal significant variations in the correlation between σy and dewatering indexes, including moisture content (Mc), capillary suction time (CST), and bound water proportion (Wb/Wt), depending on the conditioning method and intensity. Under FT and PAM conditioning, σy shows a strong negative linear correlation with dewatering performance, with Pearson's r values exceeding -0.880, indicating that a decrease in σy corresponds to improved dewatering efficiency. Conversely, AD conditioning exhibits a positive linear correlation, with r values up to 0.993, suggesting that an increase in σy correlates with reduced dewatering efficiency. For TH, PAC, and Fenton treatments, the correlation between σy and dewatering metrics is highly sensitive to changes in treatment intensity. In the PLSR analysis, the VIP values, which quantify the importance of each predictor variable, indicate that Wb/Wt in TH conditioning (VIP = 1.649) and CST in PAC (VIP = 1.309) and Fenton (VIP = 1.299) conditioning strongly influence σy. This study highlights the significant impact of conditioning methods and intensities on the correlation between σy and dewatering performance. While σy provides valuable insights as a predictive indicator, its predictive power is limited in more complex conditioning scenarios. Therefore, optimizing conditioning intensity and incorporating multiple rheological parameters are essential for achieving superior sludge dewatering outcomes.

Introduction: Athletes frequently experience anxiety and depression at rates similar to or higher than non-athletes. A balanced diet can alleviate athletes internalizing symptoms. Moreover, diet and sleep are all associated with internalising symptoms. Our study investigates how sleep quality mediates the impact of dietary habits on internalizing symptoms in athletes. Methods: The current cross-sectional study involved 758 Chinese young athletes. The adapted Australian Athletes Diet Index was used to assess dietary patterns, and sleep was measured using the Athletes Sleep Screening Questionnaire. The Generalised Anxiety Disorder 7 scale and the Patient Health Questionnaire 9-item scale were used to assess symptoms of anxiety and depression. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) analysis was used to examine the mediating role of sleep quality in young athletes. Raw scores of chronotypes, sleep quality, anxiety and depression were calculated for the statistical analysis. Results: No significant indirect effects were found in adolescents. In adult athletes, diet mediated the relationship between chronotype and sleep quality (ß = -0.028, p < 0.001). Sleep quality mediated the association between diet and anxiety (ß = -0.060, p = 0.001), and depression (ß = -0.076, p = 0.001). Additionally, diet and sleep quality mediated the association between chronotypes and anxiety (ß = -0.028, p = 0.001), and depression (ß = -0.028, p = 0.001). Conclusion: Sleep quality mediated the relationship between dietary patterns and internalising symptoms in young adult athletes. Additionally, diet and sleep quality mediated the association between chronotypes and internalising symptoms in young adult athletes.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the correlation between serum Rac1 enzyme (Rac1) level with asthma control, airway inflammatory response and lung function in asthmatic children. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 79 children with asthma who were diagnosed and treated in our hospital from June 2020 to January 2023. According to the severity of the disease, the children were divided into mild group (25 cases), moderate group (30 cases) and severe group (24 cases). 36 healthy children who underwent physical examination at the same period in our hospital were selected as the control group. The state of an illness, control level, serum mRNA Rac1, inflammatory factors, and lung function of the children in two groups were compared between the control group and the observation group. RESULTS: The Rac1 mRNA levels, forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second/FVC (FEV1/FVC), peak expiratory flow (PEF), and maximum mid-expiratory flow (MMEF) in the observation group were significantly lower than these in the control group (P < 0.05). The tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-5 (IL-5), IL-6, and IL-33 in the observation group were markedly higher than these in the control group (P < 0.05). As the state of an illness worsened, the Rac1 mRNA levels, FVC, FEV1/FVC, PEF, and MMEF gradually reduced (P < 0.05), while the levels of TNF-α, IL-5, IL-6, and IL-33 increased (P < 0.05). As the degree of disease control improved, the Rac1 mRNA levels, FVC, FEV1/FVC, PEF, and MMEF gradually elevated (P < 0.05), and the levels of TNF- α, IL-5, IL-6, and IL-33 showed the opposite trend (P < 0.05). Rac1 was negatively related to the levels of TNF-α, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-33 (P < 0.05), and positively to the levels of FVC, FEV1/FVC, PEF and MMEF (P < 0.001). Rac1 mRNA levels, FVC, FEV1/FVC, PEF and MMEF were protective factors, while TNF-α, IL-5, IL-6 and IL-33 were risk factors for the prognosis of children with asthma (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Children with asthma have obviously lower serum Rac1 mRNA levels, higher inflammatory factor levels and lower lung function. Serum Rac1 mRNA level may be associated with better asthma control, lower airway inflammatory response, better lung function and lower disease severity. It has important reference value for the evaluation of the state of an illness, efficacy and prognosis of children with bronchial asthma.

Lilium saccatum is a species of ornamental plant found in southeastern Xizang, China. In the present study, the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of L. saccatum was sequenced using next-generation sequencing (NGS). The de novo assembled cp genome was 151,839 bp in length, including a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRs; 26,421 bp), a small single-copy region (SSC; 17,528 bp), and a large single-copy region (LSC; 81,469 bp). The cp genome encodes 113 unique genes, including 79 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 30 tRNA genes, and four rRNA genes. The total GC content of the cp genome was 37.0%. Phylogenetic analysis of 24 cp genomes revealed that L. saccatum was closely related to L. souliei. This study could provide fundamental information for the phylogenomics and utilization of Lilium.

PURPOSE: This study aims to identify the prevalence and risk factors of military training-related abdominal injuries and help plan and conduct training properly. METHODS: This questionnaire survey study was conducted from October 2021 to May 2022 among military personnel from 6 military units and 8 military medical centers and participants' medical records were consulted to identify the training-related abdominal injuries. All the military personnel who ever participated in military training were included. Those who refused to participate in this study or provided an incomplete questionnaire were excluded. The questionnaire collected demographic information, type of abdominal injury, frequency, training subjects, triggers, treatment, and training disturbance. Chi-square test and t-test were used to compare baseline information. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were used to explore the risk factors associated with military training-related abdominal injuries. RESULTS: A total of 3058 participants were involved in this study, among which 1797 (58.8%) had suffered training-related abdominal injuries (the mean age was 24.3 years and the service time was 5.6 years), while 1261 (41.2%) had no training-related abdominal injuries (the mean age was 23.1 years and the service time was 4.3 years). There were 546 injured patients (30.4%) suspended the training and 84 (4.6%) needed to be referred to higher-level hospitals. The most common triggers included inadequate warm-up, fatigue, and intense training. The training subjects with the most abdominal injuries were long-distance running (589, 32.8%). Civil servants had the highest rate of abdominal trauma (17.1%). Age ≥ 25 years, military service ≥ 3 years, poor sleep status, and previous abdominal history were independent risk factors for training-related abdominal injury. CONCLUSION: More than half of the military personnel have suffered military training-related abdominal injuries. Inadequate warm-up, fatigue, and high training intensity are the most common inducing factors. Scientific and proper training should be conducted according to the factors causing abdominal injuries.
