RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Studies regarding the validity of the food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and the food composition table (FCT) are limited in Asian countries. We aimed to evaluate the validity of a 64-item FFQ and different methods of constructing the FFQ FCTs for assessing dietary intakes of foods and nutrients among adults in eastern China. METHODS: A total of 2325 participants (aged 56.2 ± 14.9 years, 51.6% female) from nine cities in Zhejiang province who completed a 64-item FFQ and 3-day 24-hour dietary recalls (24HRs) in 2015 were included. Eight FFQ FCTs were generated covering food items and specific weights estimated using professional knowledge, representative 24HRs data, or the Chinese FCT (CFCT). Energy-adjusted intakes of foods and nutrients were estimated by residual and energy density methods. Spearman correlation coefficients (SCCs) of intakes of 14 food groups and 17 nutrients between FFQ and 24HRs were calculated to evaluate the overall validity of FFQ. RESULTS: The average intakes of most food groups and nutrients assessed with FFQ were higher than those assessed using the 24HRs. For the food groups, the averaged energy-adjusted (residual method) SCC between FFQ and 24HRs was 0.27, ranging from 0.14 (starch-rich beans) to 0.49 (aquatic products). For nutrient assessment, the weighted FCT (WFCT) performs the best, and the averaged energy-adjusted (residual method) SCC was 0.26, ranging from 0.16 (iron) to 0.37 (potassium). Similar correlations with 24HRs were observed when using other FFQ FCT in the calculation of nutrient intakes. CONCLUSION: The 64-item Chinese FFQ and the WFCT were reasonably valid to assess the dietary intakes of certain foods and nutrients among adults in eastern China.

RESUMEN

Background: We aimed to explore the associations of adherence to an overall healthy lifestyle with cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) among schoolteachers in China. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional analysis among 2983 teachers (aged 39.8 ± 9.3 years, 73.8% women) in Zhejiang Province, China. A healthy lifestyle score (0-7) was constructed based on seven low-risk factors: healthy diet, noncurrent smoking, noncurrent drinking, regular exercise, normal body mass index (BMI), adequate sleep duration, and limited sedentary behavior. CMDs included self-reported hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, and stroke. Multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models were used to evaluate the associations between healthy lifestyle and CMD. Results: A total of 493 (16.5%) participants had at least one CMD, with hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes being the three leading CMDs. Each point increment in a healthy lifestyle score was associated with 20% lower odds of having CMD (p-trend < 0.001). Compared with 0-3 low-risk factors, the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were 0.66 (0.50-0.88) for 4 low-risk factors and 0.51 (0.39-0.67) for 5-7 low-risk factors. We observed independent associations for normal BMI (OR = 0.50, 95% CI = 0.40-0.63), noncurrent drinking (OR = 0.53, 95% CI = 0.36-0.77), and limited sedentary behavior (OR = 0.77, 95% CI = 0.62-0.96) in relation to CMD. Healthy diet (OR = 0.75, 95% CI = 0.55-1.01) exhibited marginally significant association with CMD. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that adherence to an overall healthy lifestyle is associated with lower odds of CMD among schoolteachers.

RESUMEN

Ochratoxin A (OTA) primarily obtained by the genera aspergillus and penicillium, is one of the toxic substances for different organs and systems of the human body such as the kidney, liver, neurons and the immune system. Moreover, it is considered to cause tumors and fetal malformation even at a very low concentration. Fast and sensitive assay for detection of OTA at ultralow levels in foods and agricultural products has been an increasing demand. In this study, a new label-free electrochemical biosensor based on three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide/gold nanoparticles/aptamer for OTA detection was constructed. The 3D-rGO/Au NPs nanocomposites were firstly synthesized using a one-pot hydrothermal process under optimized experimental conditions. The 3D-rGO/Au NPs with considerable particular surface area and outstanding electrical conductivity was then coated on a glass carbon electrode to provide tremendous binding sites for -SH modified aptamer via the distinctive Au-S linkage. The presence of OTA was specifically captured by aptamer and resulted in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) signal response accordingly. The constructed impedimetric aptasensor obtained a broad linear response from 1 pg/mL to 10 ng/mL with an LOD of 0.34 pg/mL toward OTA detection, highlighting the excellent sensitivity. Satisfactory reproducibility was also achieved with the relative standard deviation (RSD) of 1.393%. Moreover, the proposed aptasensor obtained a good recovery of OTA detection in red wine samples within the range of 93.14 to 112.75% along with a low LOD of 0.023 ng/mL, indicating its applicability for OTA detection in real samples along with economical, specific, susceptible, fast, easy, and transportable merits.
