RESUMEN

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) research in cancer diagnosis is expanding, on account of miRNAs were demonstrated to be key indicator of gene expression and hopeful candidates for biomarkers. In this study, a stable miRNA-let-7a fluorescent biosensor was successfully designed based on an exonuclease Ⅲ-assisted two-stage strand displacement reaction (SDR). First, an entropy-driven SDR containing a three-chain structure of the substrate is used in our designed biosensor, leading to reduce the reversibility of the target recycling process in each step. The target acts on the first stage to start the entropy-driven SDR, which generates the trigger used to stimulate the exonuclease Ⅲ-assisted SDR in the second stage. At the same time, we design a SDR one-step amplification strategy as a comparison. Expectly, this developed two-stage strand displacement system has a low detection limit of 25.0 pM as well as a broad detection range of 4 orders of magnitude, making it more sensitive than the SDR one-step sensor, whose detection limit is 0.8 nM. In addition, this sensor has high specificity across members of the miRNA family. Therefore, we can take advantage of this biosensor to promote miRNA research in cancer diagnosis sensing systems.

RESUMEN

Taking support from ego-depletion theory, this study examines ego depletion as a mechanism that explains how employees' organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) leads to antagonistic consequences, i.e., service sabotage. Employees' positive psychological capital (PsyCap) is considered a moderator. PROCESS macro was used to test all the hypotheses using time-lagged, dyadic data collected from 420 employees and their 112 their supervisors associated with the service industry in China. This study finds that employees' exhibition of OCB is positively linked to ego depletion, which in turn drives service sabotage behavior. Furthermore, employees' PsyCap weakens the effect of OCB on employees' ego depletion. This study highlights the dark side of OCB, the mechanism through which it causes adverse effects, and the moderating effect of PsyCap. It also provides insights to the organizations for managing service sector employees to effectively interact with customers.

RESUMEN

Based on upper echelons, paradox, and social capital theory, this study extends the association of CEO vision articulation and feedback-seeking behavior with firm sustainability by identifying the mediating role of eco-innovation and top management team (TMT) boundary-spanning behavior as a moderator. By analyzing the data of mid-sized to large Chinese firms using hierarchical regression and bootstrapping-based moderated path analysis, we found that product and process eco-innovation mediates the link between CEO vision articulation and firm sustainability while CEO feedback-seeking behavior enhances firm's sustainability through product eco-innovation only. Finally, conditional indirect effects show the vital role of TMT boundary-spanning behavior in facilitating CEOs to improve the firm's long-term sustainability through eco-innovation.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: COVID-19 epidemic can be associated with a variety of anxious responses and safety behaviors. The present research explored the psychological implications associated with COVID-19 during the outbreak in 2020 to date. Pakistani media has given particular attention to this outbreak in the region. METHODS: Three hundred and forty-seven undergraduate university students from Pakistan completed a battery of questionnaires focusing fear of COVID-19, associated safety behaviors, factual knowledge of COVID-19, and other psychological pointers hypothesized to be as predictors of anxious responses to COVID-19 threat and associated safety behaviors. RESULTS: The sample appeared to be fearful of COVID-19 and this fear was related to disgust sensitivity, anxiety sensitivity-related physical concerns, body vigilance, contamination cognitions, and general distress. Results suggested that the tendency of overestimating the severity of contamination and anxiety sensitivity towards physical concerns are significant predictors of COVID-19 related fear and consequent safety behaviors. CONCLUSION: It is suggested that people with a greater concern of contamination are likely to respond fearfully to COVID-19 and that people with higher fear of COVID-19 are likely to feel contamination concerns.

RESUMEN

Abusive supervision, defined as subordinates' perception of the extent to which supervisors engage in the sustained display of hostile verbal and non-verbal behaviors, excluding physical contact, is associated with various negative outcomes. This has made it easy for researchers to overlook the possibility that some supervisors regret their bad behavior and express remorse for their actions. Hence, we know little about how subordinates react to the perception that their supervisor is remorseful and how this perception affects the outcomes of supervisors' undesired behavior. Specifically, drawing on the social exchange theory (SET) and displace revenge literature, this study explains how abusive supervision leads to victims' service sabotage behavior. In addition, this study also investigates how perceived supervisors' remorse (PSR) mitigates the adverse effects of abusive supervision. Based on time-lagged, dyadic data (63 supervisors, 212 subordinates) from Chinese individuals, this study found support for all the proposed relationships, i.e., abusive supervision leads to service sabotage through the mediating effect of revenge desire. The findings also conclude that PSR lessens the detrimental effects of abusive supervision on victims' behavior with their customers. Finally, this research contributes to service sabotage literature by highlighting the possibility where abusive supervisors cause service sabotage behavior among victims. This study also shows the importance of PSR's role in decreasing service sabotage behavior exhibited by victims of abusive supervisors in the service sector.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study explored the effects of sucralfate intervention as a novel treatment for paraquat (PQ) poisoning in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats. METHODS: After PQ poisoning, the SD rats were randomly divided into the PQ control group (treated with normal saline), the sodium bicarbonate (SB) treatment group, and the sucralfate (LTL) treatment group. Then, the rats were administered normal saline, sodium bicarbonate solution, or sucralfate suspension as an intervention by gastric lavage. At 1, 3, 6, and 10days after poisoning, the left lungs of some rats were removed to determine the lung wet/dry (W/D) weight ratio. Additionally, the serum cytokine levels were measured, and the lung and kidney tissues were pathologically examined. RESULTS: After treatment, the signs and symptoms of the rats were improved, the mortality rate was reduced, the W/D weight ratio of the lung was lower, the cytokine levels [transforming growth factor (TGF)-ß1, interleukin (IL)-10, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α] were decreased, and the pathological injuries of the lungs and kidneys were improved. Moreover, sucralfate was significantly more effective than the control (normal saline) group and the SB treatment group. CONCLUSION: The results showed that early gastrointestinal lavage with sucralfate effectively reduced the inflammatory response and lung and kidney injuries and improved the survival of the SD rats.

RESUMEN

The objective of this study was to investigate the role of miR-148a-3p in lupus nephritis (LN) based on data from previous studies and a microRNA assay. We evaluated the miR-148a-3p expression level in LN renal tissues and blood serum to determine its clinicopathological significance and effect on glomerular cell proliferation. Then, we collected renal glomeruli from LN mice and determined the miR-148a-3p, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and PCNA/Thy1 expression. We performed functional analyses of miR-148a-3p in vitro and in vivo. We also investigated the target gene of miR-148a-3p in LN. The results showed that miR-148a-3p expression levels were significantly higher not only in glomeruli but also in the blood serum during LN and increased in the glomeruli of LN mice and that at the same time there was positive correlation between miR-148a-3p and PCNA expression of glomruli. Overexpression of miR-148a-3p accelerated cell proliferation and PCNA expression, while a miR-148a-3p inhibitor inhibited cell proliferation via the Akt/cyclin D1 pathway. Furthermore, miR-148a-3p overexpression reduced the phosphatase and tensin homology deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN) expression level, while miR-148a-3p silencing increased its expression in high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1)-induced mouse mesangial cells (MMCs). Luciferase assays demonstrated that miR-148a-3p could directly bind to the PTEN 3'-UTR. PTEN overexpression inhibited MMC proliferation considerably, resembling the results observed during miR-148a-3p inhibition. Reducing miR-148a-3p expression upregulated PTEN in the glomeruli and improved renal function in LN mice. Thus miR-148a-3p may promote proliferation and contribute to LN progression by targeting PTEN.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study sought to summarize the experience of diagnosis and treatment of tracheobronchial foreign bodies in children to effectively reduce complications and mortality. METHODS: The medical records of 1024 pediatric patients admitted to our hospital from January 1997 to September 2011 and diagnosed with clinically suspected tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: Of the 1024 children patients, 674 were boys (65.8%) and 350 girls (34.2%). Two died of respiratory and circulatory failure (foreign bodies detected upon bronchoscopy but not retrieved) before surgery, 65 patients underwent direct bronchoscopic removal of foreign bodies due to their critical status, and 957 received chest radiographs and chest fluoroscopy or multidetector spiral computed tomographic scans (941 positive). Foreign bodies were expectorated before surgery in 3 cases. There were 953 cases of bronchoscopically proven airway foreign body aspiration, with a diagnostic accuracy of 94.5%. Ninety-eight foreign bodies were lodged in the main bronchus and/or bilateral bronchi, 506 in the right main bronchus, and 349 in the left main bronchus. Atelectasis was noted in 42 patients, including 11 with pulmonary consolidation, whose lungs were re-expanded by endobronchial lavage and sputum aspiration. In 3 patients with bronchiectasis, conservative treatment following foreign body removal was followed by no improvement, and pulmonary lobectomy was performed. Foreign bodies were successfully extracted at the first bronchoscopic attempt in 948 cases, accounting for 99.7% of the total. However, 3 patients had to undergo another bronchoscopy to remove the foreign bodies. The most common types of foreign bodies were peanuts, melon seeds, and beans. CONCLUSIONS: Timely accurate diagnosis and treatment of tracheobronchial foreign bodies in children can avoid delay in treatment and effectively reduce complications and mortality.
