RESUMEN

Combining natural polysaccharides with synthetic materials improves their functional properties which are essential for designing sustained-release drug delivery systems. In this context, the Aloe vera leaf mucilage/hydrogel (ALH) was reacted with acrylic acid (AA) to synthesize a copolymerized hydrogel, i.e., ALH-grafted-Polyacrylic acid (ALH-g-PAA) through free radical copolymerization. Concentrations of the crosslinker N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA), and the initiator potassium persulfate (KPS) were optimized to study their effects on ALH-g-PAA swelling. The FTIR and solid-state NMR (CP/MAS 13C NMR) spectra witnessed the formation of ALH-g-PAA. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis revealed superporous nature of ALH-g-PAA. The gel fraction (%) of ALH-g-PAA was directly related to the concentrations of AA and MBA whereas the sol fraction was inversely related to the concentrations of AA and MBA. The porosity (%) of ALH-g-PAA directly depends on the concentration of AA and MBA. The ALH-g-PAA swelled admirably at pH 7.4 and insignificantly at pH 1.2. The ALH-g-PAA offered on/off switching properties at pH 7.4/1.2. The metoprolol tartrate was loaded on different formulations of ALH-g-PAA. The ALH-g-PAA showed pH, time, and swelling-dependent release of metoprolol tartrate (MT) for 24 h following the first-order kinetic and Korsmeyer-Peppas model. Haemocompatibility studies ascertained the non-thrombogenic and non-hemolytic behavior of ALH-g-PAA.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in developed countries, and cigarette smoking contributes to a significant proportion of cardiovascular-related deaths. Abstaining from tobacco use is associated with a significant reduction in the risk of recurrent myocardial infarctions. Methodology: In this cross-sectional study, 384 participants post-acute myocardial infarction (MI) were recruited through random sampling to explore the associations between smoking status and intention to quit smoking. Data collection took place over a 6-month period at a tertiary care hospital, Islamabad, Pakistan. Results: The majority of participants were male (59.9%) and fell into the age category of 46-50 years (37.5%). Heavy daily smokers comprised the largest smoking group (41.6%), and non-ST-elevated MI was the most common subtype (40.1%). Intention to quit smoking varied among participants, with the pre-contemplation stage having the highest representation (19.3%), followed by contemplation (25.8%). Notably, a significant proportion of participants expressed no intention to quit smoking (35.4%). Conclusion: Multinomial logistic regression analysis identified current smoking as a significant predictor of intention to quit in the preparation and contemplation stages. Overall, this study underscores the importance of considering smoking behaviour when evaluating the intention to quit smoking post-MI and highlights the need for tailored interventions and support strategies to address smoking cessation in this population. These findings offer valuable insights for the development of effective strategies aimed at reducing persistent smoking following MI and improving patient outcomes.

RESUMEN

Microorganism contamination on substrate surfaces is arousing increasingly concern as a serious health issue. In this research work, antimicrobial water-based acrylic paint containing silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) was prepared using the facile Ag+ in situ reduction process, in which AgNO3 and reducing agent sodium acrylate were refluxed with acrylic polymeric solution to obtain an antimicrobial and antifungal polymeric material for substrate coating. The Synthesized antimicrobial and antifungal water-based acrylic paint were characterized by different spectroscopic techniques. The FTIR and UV-Visible spectroscopic analyses were investigated to study the water-based acrylic paint structure as well as the significant impact of Ag NPs on the paint matrix. The UV-Visible and FTIR Spectra peak shows successful integration of Ag NPs within the polymer matrix without altering the core functional groups of the paint. The water based acrylic paint exhibited a strong antimicrobial activity, revealed substantial inhibition zones against all four strains of Gram negative represented by Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Gram-positive represented by Bacillus cereus. The coated film on substrate also shows great inhibition zone which exhibit a strong antimicrobial activity. Moreover, water based acrylic paint also exhibited a great antifungal activity, revealed substantial zone of inhibition against the Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus terreus and Rhizopus arrhizus fungal strains. Also, the coated film showed the best adhesion at 50% and 80% solution of polymeric coating sample as compared to pure or very dilute sample coating. This innovative approach has the potential to revolutionize varies industries from healthcare to construction.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The presence of perinatal asphyxia and its severity appear to correlate with increasing incidence of Acute kidney injury (AKI). The objective of this study is to determine the frequency of AKI and its outcome in birth asphyxia. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was carried out in the Department of Pediatric Medicine from March 2019 to September 2019. A total of 111 newborns with birth asphyxia of gestational age 37-41 weeks were included. Neonates born to mothers having hypertension and diabetes mellitus, patients with congenital kidney anomalies like polycystic kidney disease and renal agenesis, and mothers taking nephrotoxic drugs or any other known cause of AKI like hypovolemic shock were excluded. Urine output (UOP) and final outcome of the patient were also noted. AKI was noted. RESULTS: The mean gestational age was 38.29 ± 1.07 weeks. The mean weight of neonates was 3.08 ± 0.31 kg. The frequency of AKI in birth asphyxia was 20 (18.02%) neonates. Complete recovery in AKI patients was seen in 07 (35.0%) and death in 13 (65.0%) patients. CONCLUSION: This study has shown that the frequency of AKI in birth asphyxia was found in 18.02% neonates with complete recovery seen in 35.0% and death in 65.0% patients.

RESUMEN

Herein, the hydrogel from the leaf of the Aloe vera plant (ALH) was succinylated (SALH) and saponified (NaSALH). The FTIR, solid-state CP/MAS 13C NMR, and SEM-EDX spectroscopic analyses witnessed the formation of SALH and NaSALH from ALH. The pHZPC for NaSALH was found to be 4.90, indicating the presence of -ve charge on its surface. The Cd2+ sorption efficiency of NaSALH was found to be dependent on pH, NaALH dose, Cd2+ concentration, contact time, and temperature. The maximum Cd2+ removal from DW and HGW was found to be 227.27 and 212.77 mg g-1 according to the Langmuir isothermal model (>0.99) at pH of 6, NaSALH dose of 40 mg g-1, Cd2+ concentration of 90 mg L-1, contact time of 30 min, and temperature of 298 K. The kinetic analysis of Cd2+ sorption data witnessed that the Cd2+ removal by chemisorption mechanism and followed pseudo-second-order kinetics (>0.99). The -ve values of ΔG° and ΔH° assessed the spontaneous and exothermic nature of sorption of Cd2+ by NaSALH. The regeneration and sorption/desorption studies indicated that the sorbent NaSALH is regenerable.

RESUMEN

The emergence of antimicrobial resistance is an alarming global health concern and has stimulated the development of novel functional nanomaterials to combat multi-drug-resistant (MDR) bacteria. In this work, we demonstrate for the first time the synthesis and application of surfactin-coated silver nanoparticles as an efficient antibacterial and antibiofilm agent against the drug-resistant bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa for safe dermal applications. Our in vivo studies showed no significant superficial dermal irritation, edema, and erythema, while microscopic analysis revealed that surfactin-coated silver nanoparticles caused no pathological alterations at the applied concentrations. These results support the potential use of surfactin-coated silver nanoparticles against drug-resistant bacterial biofilm infections and in skin wound dressing applications.

RESUMEN

Elucidating single-atom effects on the fundamental properties of nanoparticles is challenging because single-atom modifications are typically accompanied by appreciable changes to the overall particle's structure. Herein, we report the synthesis of a [Cu58 H20 PET36 (PPh3 )4 ]2+ (Cu58 ; PET: phenylethanethiolate; PPh3 : triphenylphosphine) nanocluster-an atomically precise nanoparticle-that can be transformed into the surface-defective analog [Cu57 H20 PET36 (PPh3 )4 ]+ (Cu57 ). Both nanoclusters are virtually identical, with five concentric metal shells, save for one missing surface copper atom in Cu57 . Remarkably, the loss of this single surface atom drastically alters the reactivity of the nanocluster. In contrast to Cu58 , Cu57 shows promising activity for click chemistry, particularly photoinduced [3+2] azide-alkyne cycloaddition (AAC), which is attributed to the active catalytic site in Cu57 after the removal of one surface copper atom. Our study not only presents a unique system for uncovering the effect of a single-surface atom modification on nanoparticle properties but also showcases single-atom surface modification as a powerful means for designing nanoparticle catalysts.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Current diagnostic methods for assessment of hepatitis C virus related hepatocellular carcinoma and subsequent categorization of hepatocellular carcinoma into non-angio-invasive hepatocellular carcinoma and angio-invasive hepatocellular carcinoma, to establish appropriate treatment strategies, are costly, invasive and requires multiple screening steps. This demands alternative diagnostic approaches that are cost-effective, time-efficient, and minimally invasive, while maintaining their efficacy for screening of hepatitis c virus related hepatocellular carcinoma. In this study, we propose that attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared in conjunction with principal component analysis - linear discriminant analysis and support vector machine multivariate algorithms holds a potential as a sensitive tool for the detection of hepatitis C virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma and the subsequent categorization of hepatocellular carcinoma into non-angio-invasive hepatocellular carcinoma and angio-invasive hepatocellular carcinoma. METHODS: Freeze-dried sera samples collected from 31 hepatitis c virus related hepatocellular carcinoma patients and 30 healthy individuals, were used to acquire mid-infrared absorbance spectra (3500-900 cm-1) using attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared. Chemometric machine learning techniques were utilized to build principal component analysis - linear discriminant analysis and support vector machine discriminant models for the spectral data of hepatocellular carcinoma patients and healthy individuals. Sensitivity, specificity, and external validation on blind samples were calculated. RESULTS: Major variations were observed in the two spectral regions i.e., 3500-2800 and 1800-900 cm-1. IR spectral signatures of hepatocellular carcinoma were reliably different from healthy individuals. Principal component analysis - linear discriminant analysis and support vector machine models computed 100% accuracy for diagnosing hepatocellular carcinoma. To classify the non-angio-invasive hepatocellular carcinoma/ angio-invasive hepatocellular carcinoma status, diagnostic accuracy of 86.21% was achieved for principal component analysis - linear discriminant analysis. While the support vector machine showed a training accuracy of 98.28% and a cross-validation accuracy of 82.75%. External validation for support vector machine based classification observed 100% sensitivity and specificity for accurately classifying the freeze-dried sera samples for all categories. CONCLUSIONS: We present the specific spectral signatures for non-angio-invasive hepatocellular carcinoma and angio-invasive hepatocellular carcinoma, which were prominently differentiated from healthy individuals. This study provides an initial insight into the potential of attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared to diagnose hepatitis C virus related hepatocellular carcinoma but also to further categorize into non-angio-invasive and angio-invasive hepatocellular carcinoma.

RESUMEN

Croup is a common respiratory illness in children, accounting for 15% of annual clinic and emergency department visits for pediatric respiratory tract infections. We aimed to compare single-dose oral prednisolone with single-dose oral dexamethasone in the treatment of croup in terms of mean change in the Westley Croup Score. Setting: Emergency Department of Children Hospital. Duration: Six months from December 2017 to June 2022. Design: Randomized-controlled trial. Subjects and methods: A total of 226 children with Westley Croup Score 2 or more were included in this study. Patients were randomized into two groups, 113 patients received a single dose of 0.15 mg/kg of oral dexamethasone, while 113 patients received a single dose of 1 mg/kg of oral prednisolone. Croup score and other clinical observations were repeated at 4 h and recorded in the questionnaire. Results: The average age of the patients was 2.88±1.17 years. There were 129 (57.1%) males and 97 (42.9%) females. At 4 h, a significant reduction in mean Westley Croup Score was observed in group dexamethasone as compared with group prednisolone (P=0.0005). Conclusions: Our trial demonstrated that oral dexamethasone at a dose of 0.15 mg/kg is effective in reducing the total croup score but there were no statistical differences in respiratory rate, pulse rate, and oxygen saturation between groups. Future studies are required to determine if these treatments differ in efficacy for severe croup and whether there is a role for multiple-dose corticosteroid therapy in some patients.

RESUMEN

Mixed self-assembled monolayers (mixed SAMs)-based molecular-scale electronic devices in recent years have gained great achievement in the fundamental study on charge transport mechanism and electronic functionalities. This review aims to summarize the preparation and characterization, structure modulation, and applications of heterogeneous mixed SAMs in molecular electronics. One key advantage of SAM-based molecular devices compared to single molecular devices is the ability to tune the intermolecular interactions, and two-dimensional (2-D) assembly structure allows for the optimization of charge transport in desired devices. Herein we review the qualitative and quantitative examination of the nanoscale organization and intermolecular interactions of mixed SAMs obtained by various mixed SAM preparation and characterization techniques. The use of mixed SAMs to control the structural order and compactness of SAM to form high-performance molecular electronic devices is also reviewed. Finally, we wrap up the review by discussing the challenges of this technique for the development of novel electronic functional devices in the future.

RESUMEN

The use of light to regulate photocatalyzed reversible deactivation radical polymerization (RDRP) under mild conditions, especially driven by broadband light or sunlight directly, is highly desired. But the development of a suitable photocatalyzed polymerization system for large-scale production of polymers, especially block copolymers, has remained a big challenge. Herein, we report the development of a phosphine-based conjugated hypercrosslinked polymer (PPh3-CHCP) photocatalyst for an efficient large-scale photoinduced copper-catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (Cu-ATRP). Monomers including acrylates and methyl acrylates can achieve near-quantitative conversions under a wide range (450-940 nm) of radiations or sunlight directly. The photocatalyst could be easily recycled and reused. The sunlight-driven Cu-ATRP allowed the synthesis of homopolymers at 200 mL from various monomers, and monomer conversions approached 99% in clouds intermittency with good control over polydispersity. In addition, block copolymers at 400 mL scale can also be obtained, which demonstrates its great potential for industrial applications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Conventional techniques to diagnose (HCV) and assess non-cirrhotic/cirrhotic status of the patient for appropriate treatment regime are expensive and invasive. Present available diagnostic tests are expensive as they include multiple screening steps. Therefore, there is a need of cost-effective, less time consuming and minimally invasive alternative diagnostic approaches can be used for effective screening. We propose that (ATR-FTIR) in conjunction with (PCA-LDA),(PCA-QDA) and (SVM) multivariate algorithms can be used as a sensitive tool for detection of HCV infection and to assess non-cirrhotic/cirrhotic status of patients. METHODS: We used 105 sera samples, of which, 55 were from healthy and 50 were from HCV positive individuals. These 50 HCV positive patients were further classified into cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic categories using serum markers and imaging techniques. These samples were freeze dried prior to spectral acquisition then multivariate data classification algorithms were employed to classify these sample types. RESULTS: PCA-LDA and SVM model computed the diagnostic accuracy of 100% for detection of HCV infection. To further classify the non-cirrhotic/cirrhotic status of a patient, diagnostic accuracy of 90.91% for PCA-QDA and 100% for SVM was observed. Internal and external validation for SVM based classifications observed 100% sensitivity and specificity. The confusion matrix generated by PCA-LDA model computed the validation and calibration accuracy showed 100% sensitivity and specificity, by using 2 PCs for HCV infected and healthy individuals. However, when the PCA QDA analysis was done to classify the non-cirrhotic sera samples from cirrhotic sera samples the diagnostic accuracy achieved was 90.91% based on 7 PC's. SVM was also employed for classification and developed model showed the best results with 100% sensitivity and specificity when external validation was applied. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides an initial insight that ATR-FTIR spectroscopy in conjugation with multivariate data classification tools holds a potentialnot onlytoeffectively diagnosis HCV infection but also to assess non-cirrhotic/cirrhotic status of patients.

RESUMEN

Herein, a drug delivery system (SSH-co-MAA) based on the mucilage from seeds of Salvia spinosa (SSH; polymer) and methacrylic acid (MAA; monomer) is introduced for the controlled delivery of venlafaxine HCl using a sustainable chemical approach. The optimized conditions for the designing of the ideal formulation (M4) of SSH-co-MAA were found to be 2.5% (w/w) of SSH, 30.0% (w/w) of MAA, 0.4% (w/w) of both N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide (MBA; cross-linker) and potassium persulfate (KPS; initiator). The structure characterization of SSH-co-MAA by Fourier transform infrared and solid-state CP/MAS 13C-NMR spectroscopy has confirmed the grafting of MAA onto SSH. The thermogravimetric analysis revealed that SSH-co-MAA is a stable entity before and after loading of the venlafaxine HCl-loaded SSH-co-MAA (VSSH-co-MAA). Scanning electron microscopy images of SSH-co-MAA after swelling then freeze drying showed the superporous nature of the hydrogel. The gel fraction (%) of SSH-co-MAA depended upon concentration of SSH, MAA, and MBA. The porosity (%) was increased with the increase in the concentration of SSH and decreased with the decrease in the concentration of MAA and MBA. The swelling indices, venlafaxine HCl loading, and release (24 h at the pH of the gastrointestinal tract) from VSSH-co-MAA were found to be dependent on the pH of the swelling media and the concentration of SSH, MAA, and MBA. The release of venlafaxine HCl followed non-Fickian diffusion mechanism. Conclusively, SSH-co-MAA is a novel material for potential application in targeted drug delivery applications.

RESUMEN

Hyperacute rejection is a rare complication of renal transplantation. It is mainly caused by preformed human leukocyte antigen antibodies and can lead to the loss of the transplanted kidney. Renal transplantation is a highly beneficial treatment for people with end-stage renal disease, greatly improving their quality of life. However, antibody-mediated rejection is a significant challenge for the long-term survival of transplanted kidneys. An 18-year-old male with nephrotic syndrome, who underwent bilateral renal nephrectomy due to severe proteinuria, received a living donor kidney. Pretransplant panel reactive antibodies were low. Cytotoxic T- and B-cell and non-HLA cross-match was negative. The graft became cyanotic and mottled within half an hour of transplantation. Allograft was quickly extracted, and a biopsy showed hyperacute rejection. The patient was treated with plasmapheresis, intravenous immunoglobulin, and eculizumab. The graft was successfully re-implanted after 18 hours. Further treatment included additional sessions of plasmapheresis, intravenous immunoglobulin, eculizumab, T-cell-depleting agent, and immunosuppressive therapy. Serum creatinine became stable, and renal biopsy after one month demonstrated intact parenchyma with no inflammation or fibrosis. This case highlights the critical importance of promptly removing the transplanted kidney and using aggressive immunotherapy to save renal allografts in cases of hyperacute rejection.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Selecting American mink (Neovison vison) for tolerance to Aleutian mink disease virus (AMDV) has gained popularity in recent years, but data on the outcomes of this activity are scant. The objectives of this study were to determine the long-term changes in viremia, seroconversion and survival in infected mink. Mink were inoculated intranasally with a local isolate of Aleutian mink disease virus (AMDV) over 4 years (n = 1742). The animals had been selected for tolerance to AMDV for more than 20 years (TG100) or were from herds free of AMDV (TG0). The progenies of TG100 and TG0, and their crosses with 25, 50 and 75% tolerance ancestry were also used. Blood samples were collected from each mink up to 14 times until 1211 days post-inoculation (dpi) and were tested for viremia by PCR and for anti-AMDV antibodies by counter-immunoelectrophoresis (CIEP). Viremia and CIEP status were not considered when selecting replacements. Low-performing animals were pelted and the presence of antibodies in their blood and antibody titer were measured by CIEP, and viremia and viral DNA in seven organs (n = 936) were tested by PCR. RESULTS: The peak incidences of viremia (66.7%) and seropositivity (93.5%) were at 35 dpi. The incidence of viremia decreased over time while the incidence of seroconversion increased. The least-squares means of the incidence of PCR positive of lymph node (0.743) and spleen (0.656) were significantly greater than those of bone marrow, liver, kidneys, lungs and small intestine (0.194 to 0.342). Differences in tolerant ancestry were significant for every trait measured. Incidences of viremia over time, terminal viremia, seropositivity over time, AMDV DNA in organs and antibody titer were highest in the susceptible groups (TG0 or TG25) and lowest in the tolerant groups (TG100 or TG75). CONCLUSION: Previous history of selection for tolerance resulted in mink with reduced viral replication and antibody titer. Viremia had a negative effect and antibody production had a positive effect on survival and productivity.

RESUMEN

Gold nanomaterials (GNMs) have unique optical properties with less antigenicity, and their physicochemical properties have strong relation with an immunological response at bio-interface including antigenicity. An interpretation of this correlation would significantly impact on the clinical and theranostic applications of GNMs. Herein, we studied the effect of GNMs morphology on the cytotoxicity (in-vitro), innate immune responses, hepatotoxicity, and nephrotoxicity (in-vivo studies) using gold nano-cups (GNCs), porous gold nanospheres (PGNSs) and solid gold nano particles (SGNPs) coated with the same ligand to ensure similar surface chemistry. The cytotoxicity was assessed via sulfo-rhodamine B (SRB) assay, and the cytotoxicity data showed that morphological features at nanoscale dimensions like surface roughness and hollowness etc. have a significant impact on cellular viability. The biochemical and histopathological study of liver and kidney tissues also showed that all GNMs did not show any toxicity even at high concentration (100 µL). The relative quantification of cytokine gene expression of TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-4, 1L-6, and 1L-17 (against each morphology) was checked after in-vivo activation in mice. Among the different nanogold morphologies, PVP stabilized GNCs (PVP-GNCs) showed the highest release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which might be due to their high surface energy and large surface area for exposure as compared to other nanogold morphologies studied. The pro-inflammatory cytokine release could be suppressed by coating with some anti-inflammatory polymer, i.e., inulin. The in-vitro results of pro-inflammatory (TNF-α, IL-1) cytokines also suggested that all GNMs may induce activation of macrophages and Th1 immune response. The in-vivo activation results showed a decrease in mRNA expression of the cytokines (TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-4, 1L-6 and 1L-17). Based on these findings, we proposed that the shape and morphology of GNMs control their immune response at nano-bio interface, and it must be considered while designing their role for different biomedical applications like immuno-stimulation and bio-imaging.

RESUMEN

Cache-enabled networks suffer hugely from the challenge of content caching and content delivery. In this regard, cache-enabled device-to-device (D2D) assisted multitier cellular networks are expected to relieve the network data pressure and effectively solve the problem of content placement and content delivery. Consequently, the user can have a better opportunity to get their favored contents from nearby cache-enabled transmitters (CETs) through reliable and good-quality links; however, as expected, designing an effective caching policy is a challenging task due to the limited cache memory of CETs and uncertainty in user preferences. In this article, we introduce a joint content placement and content delivery technique for D2D assisted multitier cellular networks (D2DMCN). A support vector machine (SVM) is employed to predict the content popularity to determine which content is to be cached and where it is to be cached, thereby increasing the overall cache hit ratio (CHR). The content request is satisfied either by the neighboring node through the D2D link or by the cache-enabled base stations (BSs) of the multitier cellular networks (MCNs). Similarly, to solve the problem of optimal content delivery, the Hungarian algorithm is employed aiming to improve the quality of satisfaction. The simulation results indicate that the proposed content placement strategy effectively optimizes the overall cache hit ratio of the system. Similarly, an effective content delivery approach reduces the request content delivery delay and power consumption.

RESUMEN

SSTIs (Skin and soft tissue infections) are the most commonly occurring infections among all age groups. This study aimed to create an herbal emulgel for the treatment of bacterial skin infections as many bacteria have developed strong resistance against antibiotics. Spilanthe acmella plant extract contains spilanthol which has strong anti-bacterial properties. Methanolic S. acmella extract-based emulgels being promising drug delivery systems have been evaluated for various parameters like physical characteristics, viscosity, pH, spreading coefficient, Bioadhesive strength determination, Extrudability, antioxidant and antibacterial activity. 200µg/100µl exhibited the highest antioxidative activity 60.01±0.28% radical scavenging activity. MIC values of pure extract found in the range of 0.83±0.21 to 1.66±0.41µg/100µl, MBC values found in the range of 1.66±0.41 to 3.33±0.83µg/100µl for all strains of bacteria. Statistically significant antibacterial activity of all extract containing emulgels was observed against S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, E. coli p-value = 0.00, while maximum antibacterial effect all formulations have produaced zone of inhibitions against E. Coli p-value = 0.00. The current study thus suggests the use of S. acmella extract-based emulgel for the treatment of bacterial skin infections caused by S. aureus, P. aeruginosa and E. coli.
