RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Posterior left atrial wall isolation (PWI) plus traditional pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) has been proposed as a promising intervention to decrease atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence. We aim to investigate the efficacy and safety of adding PWI to the traditional PVI in patients with AF. METHODS: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted using synthesizing randomized controlled trials (RCTs) retrieved by systematically searching PubMed, Web of Science, SCOPUS, EMBASE, and Cochrane through June 14, 2023. We used Stata version 17 to pool dichotomous data using risk ratio (RR) and continuous data using mean difference (MD), with a 95% confidence interval (CI) (PROSPERO ID: CRD42023446227). RESULTS: We included 11 RCTs with a total number of 1534 patients. Combined ablation with PWI + PVI was not associated with any significant difference over PVI only regarding the recurrence of clinical AF (RR: 0.86 with 95% CI [0.70-1.06]), all atrial arrhythmia (RR: 0.93 with 95% CI [0.82-1.07]), nonatrial fibrillation arrhythmia (RR: 1.22 with 95% CI [0.97-1.53]), early AF (RR: 0.89 with 95% CI [0.62-1.27]), and antiarrhythmic drugs at discharge (RR: 0.83 with 95% CI [0.67-1.04]). However, it was associated with increased total ablation duration (minutes) (MD: 12.58 with 95% CI [6.80-18.37]) and total procedure duration (minutes) (MD: 16.77 with 95% CI [9.63-23.91]), without any significant difference regarding adverse events (RR: 1.05 with 95% CI [0.63-1.74]). CONCLUSION: While the pooled data from PWI + PVI using point-by-point radiofrequency did not suggest a benefit in the recurrence of various atrial arrhythmias compared to PVI alone, PWI+PVI using direct posterior wall ablation, especially with cryoballoon, demonstrated a significant reduction in recurrence of AF/atrial arrhythmias. Also, PWI + PVI significantly increased the ablation and total procedure durations.

BACKGROUND: Bariatric surgery has gained popularity in recent decades as an effective treatment for obesity. Abdominoplasty is one of the most often performed aesthetic procedures all over the world. In post-bariatric patients undergoing abdominoplasty, the diameter size and number of the abdominal wall perforators increase proportionally with increased body weight. Postoperative complications that may occur are haematoma, and venous thromboembolism (VTE). In plastic surgery procedures VTE prophylaxis grades vary due to the lack of consensus and clear guidelines. The aim of this study was to explore the frequency of postoperative bleeding and VTE in patients undergoing abdominoplasty and to explore the risk factors associated with major bleeding. METHODS: A retrospective single-centre study of adult patients who were operated on by abdominoplasty between 2011 and 2020. Chemoprophylaxis including low molecular weight heparin (LMHW) was recommended when the operating time exceeded 2 h. RESULTS: A total of 102 patients were included. There were no patients with VTE. Eight patients were re-operated for major haematoma. The weight loss (peak weight to weight before the abdominoplasty) was 14.4 kg larger in the re-operation group (p = 0.03). Eighty-eight percent in the re-operation group and 67% in the other group were treated with LMWH (p = 0.43). Multivariable logistic regression showed that with each decrease from the peak in BMI kg/m2 the risk of re-operation for major haematoma was increased by 22% (p = 0.02). CONCLUSION: Abdominoplasty in patients after massive weight loss has a higher risk of postoperative bleeding. Having a clear protocol for chemoprophylaxis should be considered. This study presents the green synthesis and multifunctional properties of Cu/NiO nanocomposites (NCs) fabricated with varying ratios (90:10, 80:20, and 70:30) using Commelina benghalensis leaf extract. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the polycrystalline nature of the NCs, revealing crystallite sizes of 13.62, 13.22, and 7.14 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed rod-shaped and agglomerated particles with sizes ranging from 17.64 to 22.97 nm. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) verified the elemental composition of copper, nickel, oxygen, and carbon. UV-visible spectroscopy determined the energy band gaps to be in the range of 1.24-1.56 eV. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) indicated the presence of bioactive compounds responsible for the reduction of precursor metal salts. The Cu/NiO NCs exhibited remarkable antimicrobial activity, with the 90:10 ratio showing the highest zones of inhibition at 32.76±0.23 mm, 18.66±0.33 mm, and 14.36±0.32 mm against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli, respectively. Additionally, the 70:30 Cu/NiO NCs demonstrated superior antioxidant activity, with a radical scavenging efficiency of 83.22%, closely approaching that of ascorbic acid (96.98%). Photocatalytic evaluations revealed that the NCs were highly effective in degrading environmental pollutants, achieving 97.69% degradation of malachite green and 96.52% of congo red under UV light irradiation. The novelty of this work lies in the use of Commelina benghalensis leaf extract as a sustainable and eco-friendly reducing and stabilizing agent for synthesizing Cu/NiO NCs, offering a green alternative to conventional methods. The synergistic effects between Cu and NiO in the different compositions (90:10, 80:20, and 70:30) enhanced the overall antimicrobial and photocatalytic activities, highlighting their potential for environmental remediation applications.

Background: Preoperative intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) before coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) could improve operative outcomes by augmenting the diastolic coronary blood flow. Data on preoperative IABP use in patients with left-main coronary artery (LMCA) disease are limited. This study aimed to characterize patients who received preoperative IABP before CABG for LMCA and evaluate its effect on postoperative outcomes. Methods: This multicenter retrospective cohort study that included consecutive 914 patients who underwent CABG for unprotected LMCA disease from January 2015 to December 2019 in 14 tertiary referral centers. Patients were grouped according to the preoperative IABP insertion into patients with IABP (n=101) and without IABP (n=813). Propensity score matching adjusting for preoperative variables, with 1:1 match and a caliber of 0.03 identified 80 matched pairs. The primary outcomes used in propensity score matching were cardiac mortality and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE). Results: IABP was commonly inserted in patients with previous myocardial infarction (MI), chronic kidney disease, peripheral arterial disease, and congestive heart failure. IABP patients had higher EuroSCORE [ES >8%: 95 (11.86%) vs. 40 (39.60%), P<0.001] and SYNTAX {29 [interquartile range (IQR) 25-35] vs. 33 (IQR 26-36); P=0.02} scores. Preoperative cardiogenic shock and arrhythmia were more prevalent in patients with IABP, while acute coronary syndrome was more prevalent in patients without IABP. After matching, there was no difference in vasoactive inotropic score between groups [3.5 (IQR 1-7.5) vs. 6 (IQR 1-13.5), P=0.06], and lactate levels were nonsignificantly higher in patients with IABP [2.4 (IQR 1.4-4.5) vs. 3.1 (IQR 1.05-7.75), P=0.05]. There were no differences between groups in acute kidney injury [20 (25%) vs. 26 (32.5%), P=0.34], cerebrovascular accidents [3 (3.75%) vs. 4 (5%), P>0.99], heart failure [5 (6.25%) vs. 7 (8.75%), P=0.75], MI [7 (8.75%) vs. 8 (10%), P>0.99], major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events [10 (12.5%) vs. 17 (21.25%), P=0.21], and cardiac mortality [6 (7.50%) vs. 14 (17.50%), P=0.09]. Patients who received IABP had longer ventilation times [8.5 (IQR 6-23) vs. 15.5 (IQR 5-50.5) h, P=0.03] and intensive care unit (ICU) stays [3 (IQR 2-5) vs. 4 (IQR 2-7.5) days, P=0.01]. Conclusions: Preoperative IABP in patients with LMCA might not be associated with reduced cardiac mortality or hospital complications. IABP could increase the duration of mechanical ventilation and ICU stay, and its use should be individualized for each patient.

BACKGROUND: Persistent Atrial Fibrillation (PeAF) is a challenging case for rhythm control modalities. Catheter ablation is the mainstay in PeAF management; however, data regarding the comparative safety and efficacy of cryoballoon ablation (CBA) versus radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for PeAF is still limited. We aim to compare the safety and efficacy of CBA versus RFA for PeAF ablation. METHODS: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis synthesizing randomized controlled trials (RCTs), which were retrieved by systematically searching PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and Cochrane through October 2023. RevMan version 5.4 software was used to pool dichotomous data using risk ratio (RR) and continuous data using mean difference (MD) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). PROSPERO ID: CRD42023480314. RESULTS: Three RCTs with 400 patients were included. There was no significant difference between RFA and CBA regarding AF recurrence (RR: 0.77, 95% CI [0.50, 1.20], P = 0.25), atrial tachycardia or atrial flutter recurrence (RR: 0.54, 95% CI [0.11, 2.76], P = 0.46), and any arrhythmia recurrence (RR: 0.96, 95% CI [0.70, 1.31], P = 0.80). CBA was significantly associated with decreased total procedure duration (MD: - 45.34, 95% CI [- 62.68, - 28.00], P < 0.00001), with no significant difference in fluoroscopy duration (MD: 3.59, 95% CI [- 5.13, 12.31], P = 0.42). Safety parameters were similar in both groups, including the incidence of any complications, phrenic nerve palsy (RR: 2.91 with 95% CI [0.31, 27.54], P = 0.35), access site complications (RR: 0.33 with 95% CI [0.05, 2.03], P = 0.23), and pericardial effusion. CONCLUSIONS: In PeAF catheter ablation, CBA is comparable to RFA in terms of safety and efficacy. Also, CBA is associated with a shorter total procedure duration.

BACKGROUND: The introduction of presurgical nasoalveolar molding represented a significant departure from traditional molding methods. Developed by Grayson and colleagues in 1993, this technique combines an intraoral molding device with a nasal molding stent. This study aimed to compare the Grayson nasoalveolar molding appliance versus DynaCleft appliance as two methods of presurgical nasoalveolar molding. METHODS: A single-blinded, randomized, parallel-arm clinical trial was conducted. Sixteen infants with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate were enrolled and divided into two groups of eight. Group 1 was treated with a modified Grayson nasoalveolar molding appliance that included a nasal stent, while group 2 was treated with DynaCleft elastic adhesive tape and an external nasal elevator. Standardized digital photographs of each infant were taken at baseline and post-treatment using a professional camera. Nine extraoral anthropometric measurements were obtained from each image using image measurement software. RESULTS: The modified Grayson nasoalveolar appliance demonstrated a more significant improvement compared to DynaCleft in terms of alar length projection (on both sides), columella angle, and nasal tip projection. Symmetry ratios also showed enhancement, with significant improvements observed in nasal width, nasal basal width, and alar length projection (p< 0.05). CONCLUSION: Both the modified Grayson nasoalveolar appliance and DynaCleft appear to be effective presurgical infant orthopedics treatment options, demonstrating improvements in nasolabial aesthetics. The modified Grayson appliance, equipped with a nasal stent, improved nasal symmetry more effectively than DynaCleft, resulting in a straighter columella and a more medially positioned nasal tip.

Background: This study aims to determine the prevalence of secondary bacterial infections (SBIs) in hospitalized coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) subjects and evaluate their antibiotic susceptibility. The study also sought to identify risk factors for the outcome of SBIs in COVID-19 subjects. Methods: This single-center cross-sectional retrospective study was carried out at Sohar Hospital in Oman. The study examined hospitalized COVID-19 subjects diagnosed with SBIs during March 2020-December 2022. The relevant subjects' data were extracted from hospital electronic health records and analyzed using STATA version 14. The Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test was employed for analyzing categorical variables, and P < 0.05 was deemed statistically significant. Results: The research encompassed a total of 817 bacteria recovered from various clinical samples of 421 subjects. The older individuals (39.4%) and men (65.6%) experienced bacterial infections more frequently, with bloodstream and respiratory infections being the most common. Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) were responsible for a higher proportion (85.6%) of infections, with Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Klebsiella pneumoniae being the most common pathogens. Subjects who underwent mechanical ventilation, received corticosteroid therapy, and who had underlying comorbidities, such as diabetes and chronic renal disease, were found to have higher mortality rates. Neutrophilia, elevated C-reactive protein, lymphocytopenia, decreased serum albumin level, sepsis, and pneumonia were found to be independent contributors to mortality. Conclusions: SBI is common among COVID-19-hospitalized subjects. GNB were primarily linked to SBI. The severity and the likelihood of SBI increased in subjects undergoing medical interventions and immunosuppressive therapy.

INTRODUCTION: The Middle East and North African (MENA) region is characterised by high and complex migration flows, yet little is known about the health of migrant populations, their levels of underimmunisation and access to healthcare provision. Data are needed to support regional elimination and control targets for key diseases and the design and delivery of programmes to improve health outcomes in these groups. This protocol describes a suite of seven systematic reviews that aim to identify, appraise and synthesise the available evidence on the burden and health outcomes, policies and access (barriers and facilitators) related to these mobile populations in the region. METHODS: Seven systematic reviews will cover three questions to explore the: (1) burden and health outcomes, (2) policies and (3) healthcare barriers and facilitators for the following seven disease areas in migrants in the MENA region: tuberculosis, HIV and hepatitis B and C, malaria and neglected tropical diseases, diabetes, mental health, maternal and neonatal health, and vaccine-preventable diseases. We will search electronic databases for studies in any language (year 2000-2023), reference-check relevant publications and cross-check included studies with experts. We will search for grey literature by hand searching key databases and websites (including regional organisations and MoH websites) for country-specific guidelines and talking to our network of experts for local and regional reports and key datasets. We will assess the studies and policies for their quality using appropriate tools. We will meta-analyse the data by disease outcome if they are of sufficient volume and similarity. Where meta-analysis is not possible and where data are on policy or access, we will narratively synthesise the evidence using summary tables, figures and text. DISSEMINATION: We anticipate disseminating the findings through peer-reviewed publications, conferences and other formats relevant to all stakeholders. We are following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines and protocols will be registered on International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews.

Background: A stroke is a sudden loss of blood supply to the brain, leading to permanent tissue damage caused by embolism, thrombosis, or hemorrhagic events. Almost 85% of strokes are ischemic strokes. Objective: To assess the incidence of mortality and risk factors among adult stroke patients in public hospitals of Jigjiga town, Somali Region, Ethiopia. Methods: An institution-based retrospective cohort study was conducted from 25 May to 15 June 2022 at Sheikh Hassen Yabare Referral Hospital and Karamara Hospital. Data were entered using Epi-Data version 4.3 and exported to be analyzed using SPSS 20 statistical software. Kaplan-Meier was used to estimate mean survival time, and a predictor with a p-value < 0.05 was considered to have a significant in multivariate Cox regression. Results: About 480 stroke patients' charts were included in this study; among those, 229 (53.3%) were male stroke patients, and 259 (60.2%) had an ischemic stroke. The overall incidence rate was 7.15 deaths per 1000 person-day observations. The overall median survival time for adult stroke patients was 120 days. GCS level b/n 3-8 has a lower survival time with a mean survival time of 57 days (95% CI: 48.8-66.7) as compared to those who had GCS level 9-12 with a mean survival time of 103 days (95% CI: 93.4-112.9). Age ⩾ 71 (AHR = 1.9; 95% CI: 1.02-3.45), presence of pneumonia (AHR = 2.7; 95% CI: 1.52-4.63), and history of hypertension (AHR = 2.07; 95% CI: 1.08-3.89) were the predictors of mortality among stroke patients. Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, the incidence of mortality was high, at 7.15 per 1000 person-years. The presence of pneumonia, decreased GCS, age ⩾ 7, and history of hypertension were predictors of mortality in adult stroke patients.

Finding new catalysts and pyrolysis technologies for efficiently recycling wasted plastics into fuels and structured solid materials of high selectivity is the need of time. Catalytic pyrolysis is a thermochemical process that cracks the feedstock in an inert gas environment into gaseous and liquid fuels and a residue. This study is conducted on microwave-assisted catalytic recycling of wasted plastics into nanostructured carbon and hydrogen fuel using composite magnetic ferrite catalysts. The composite ferrite catalysts, namely, NiZnFe2O4, NiMgFe2O4, and MgZnFe2O4 were produced through the coprecipitation method and characterized for onward use in the microwave-assisted valorization of wasted plastics. The ferrite nanoparticles worked as a catalyst and heat susceptor for uniformly distributed energy transfer from microwaves to the feedstock at a moderate temperature of 450°C. The type of catalyst and the working parameters significantly impacted the process efficiency, gas yield, and structural properties of the carbonaceous residue. The tested process took 2-8 minutes to pulverize feedstock into gas and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), depending on the catalyst type. The NiZnFe2O4-catalyzed process produced CNTs with good structural properties and fewer impurities compared to other catalysts. The NiMgFe2O4 catalyst performed better in terms of hydrogen evolution by showing 87.5% hydrogen (H2) composition in the evolved gases. Almost 90% of extractable hydrogen from the feedstock evolved during the first 2 minutes of the reaction.

Several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in multiple interleukin receptor genes could be associated with asthma risk and/or phenotype. Interleukin-17 (IL-17) has been implicated in tissue inflammation and autoimmune diseases. As no previous studies have uncovered the potential role of IL17 receptor A (RA) gene variants in asthma risk, we aimed to explore the association of four IL17RA SNPs (i.e., rs4819554A/G, rs879577C/T, rs41323645G/A, and rs4819555C/T) with asthma susceptibility/phenotype in our region. TaqMan allelic discrimination analysis was used to genotype 192 individuals. We found that the rs4819554 G/G genotype significantly reduced disease risk in the codominant (OR = 0.15, 95%CI = 0.05-0.45, p < 0.001), dominant (OR = 0.49, 95%CI = 0.26-0.93, p = 0.028), and recessive (OR = 0.18, 95%CI = 0.07-0.52, p < 0.001) models. Similarly, rs879577 showed reduced disease risk associated with the T allele across all genetic models. However, the A allele of rs41323645 was associated with increased disease risk in all models. The G/A and A/A genotypes have higher ORs of 2.47 (95%CI = 1.19-5.14) and 3.86 (95%CI = 1.62-9.18), respectively. Similar trends are observed in the dominant 2.89 (95%CI = 1.47-5.68, p = 0.002) and recessive 2.34 (95%CI = 1.10-4.98, p = 0.025) models. For the rs4819555 variant, although there was no significant association identified under any models, carriers of the rs4819554*A demonstrated an association with a positive family history of asthma (71.4% in carriers vs. 27% in non-carriers; p = 0.025) and the use of relievers for >2 weeks (52.2% of carriers vs. 28.8% of non-carriers; p = 0.047). Meanwhile, the rs4819555*C carriers displayed a significant divergence in the asthma phenotype, specifically atopic asthma (83.3% vs. 61.1%; p = 0.007), showed a higher prevalence of chest tightness (88.9% vs. 61.5%; p = 0.029), and were more likely to report comorbidities (57.7% vs. 16.7%, p = 0.003). The most frequent haplotype in the asthma group was ACAC, with a frequency of 22.87% vs. 1.36% in the controls (p < 0.001). In conclusion, the studied IL17RA variants could be essential in asthma susceptibility and phenotype in children and adolescents.

BACKGROUND: The world over, women are victims of violence in close and intimate relationships where they are expected to be safe and protected. Intimate partner violence (IPV) significantly impacts the physical and mental well-being of those affected. This study assessed the prevalence, pattern and effects of IPV amongst women in Abeokuta South Local Government Area (LGA) of Ogun State, South West Nigeria. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This community-based cross-sectional study was carried out in Abeokuta - South LGA in Ogun State. Data were collected from 339 women in intimate relationships using a structured interviewer-administered questionnaire. Ethical approval (HPRS/381/471) was obtained from the Ogun State Ministry of Health Ethical Review Committee. Analysis was done using IBM® SPSS version 23, and results were presented in frequencies and proportions using tables and charts. RESULTS: About three-quarters (73.2%) of the 339 respondents had experienced one form of IPV. Psychological/emotional violence, 224 (66.1%), and physical violence, 161 (47.5%), were the study's most commonly reported forms of violence. Amongst those affected, 186 (54.9%) were 'insulted', 87 (25.7%) were 'embarrassed in public' and another 124 (36.6%) were slapped. The effects of IPV reported were bruises/lacerations, unwanted pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections and attempted suicide. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of IPV of all forms were high in the studied population. Therefore, the government needs to create more awareness of the problem and promote investments in women's empowerment to reverse this trend.

Idling brain activity has been proposed to facilitate inference, insight, and innovative problem-solving. However, it remains unclear how and when the idling brain can create novel ideas. Here, we show that cortical offline activity is both necessary and sufficient for building unlearned inferential knowledge from previously acquired information. In a transitive inference paradigm, male C57BL/6J mice gained the inference 1 day after, but not shortly after, complete training. Inhibiting the neuronal computations in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) during post-learning either non-rapid eye movement (NREM) or rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, but not wakefulness, disrupted the inference without affecting the learned knowledge. In vivo Ca2+ imaging suggests that NREM sleep organizes the scattered learned knowledge in a complete hierarchy, while REM sleep computes the inferential information from the organized hierarchy. Furthermore, after insufficient learning, artificial activation of medial entorhinal cortex-ACC dialog during only REM sleep created inferential knowledge. Collectively, our study provides a mechanistic insight on NREM and REM coordination in weaving inferential knowledge, thus highlighting the power of idling brain in cognitive flexibility.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) secreted by cardiosphere-derived cells exert immunomodulatory effects through the transmission of small non-coding RNAs. METHODS: The mechanism and role of yREX3, a small Y RNA abundant in EVs in myocardial injury, was investigated. RESULTS: yREX3 attenuates cardiac ischaemic injury by selective DNA methylation. Synthetic yREX3 encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles triggers broad transcriptomic changes in macrophages, localizes to the nucleus, and mediates epigenetic silencing of protein interacting with C kinase-1 (Pick1) through methylation of upstream CpG sites. Moreover, yREX3 interacts with polypyrimidine tract binding protein 3 (PTBP3) to methylate the Pick1 gene locus in a DNA methyltransferase-dependent manner. Suppression of Pick1 in macrophages potentiates Smad3 signalling and enhances efferocytosis, minimizing heart necrosis in rats with myocardial infarction. Adoptive transfer of Pick1-deficient macrophages recapitulates the cardioprotective effects of yREX3 in vivo. CONCLUSIONS: These findings highlight the role of a small Y RNA mined from EVs with a novel gene-methylating mechanism.

This paper considers the classification of multiplexed structured light modes, aiming to bolster communication reliability and data transfer rates, particularly in challenging scenarios marked by turbulence and potential eavesdropping. An experimental free-space optic (FSO) system is established to transmit 16 modes [8-ary Laguerre Gaussian (LG) and 8-ary superposition LG (Mux-LG) mode patterns] over a 3-m FSO channel, accounting for interception threats and turbulence effects. To the best of authors' knowledge, this paper is the first to consider both factors concurrently. We propose four machine/deep learning algorithms-artificial neural network, support vector machine, 1D convolutional neural network, and 2D convolutional neural network-for classification purposes. By fusing the outputs of these methods, we achieve promising classification results exceeding 92%, 81%, and 69% in cases of weak, moderate, and strong turbulence, respectively. Structured light modes exhibit significant potential for a variety of real-world applications where reliable and high-capacity data transmission is crucial.

Aim: Zinc salicylaldimines may act as multidrug agents. Results: Three zinc salicylaldimines C1-C3 and respective ligands HL1-HL3 were examined for antimicrobial/anticancer drug action and C3 was structurally analyzed (tetrahedral, triclinic). Against two fungi, C1 inhibited Candida albicans with 12 mm (21 mm for amphotericin B). Among four bacteria, two ligands inhibited Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli (9-10 mm), but the complexes inhibited all bacteria with 10-14 mm (21-26 mm for ampicillin). The half-maximal inhibitory concentrations for the ligands, complexes and doxorubicin were 195.5-310.7, 22.18-70.05 and 9.66 µM against cancerous MCF-7 cells and 186.4-199.9, 14.95-18.87 and 36.42 µM against normal BHK cells. Conclusion: The complexation produced pronounced enhancement in the ligand antimicrobial/anticancer activities, despite these activities are moderate comparing with standards.

The present research reports the anti-cancer potential of recombinant L-Glutaminase from Streptomyces roseolus. L-Glutaminase gene was synthesized by codon-optimization, cloned and successfully expressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3). Affinity purified recombinant L-Glutaminase revealed a molecular mass of 32 kDa. Purified recombinant L-Glutaminase revealed stability at pH 7.0-8.0 with optimum activity at 70 °C further indicating its thermostable nature based on thermodynamic characterization. Recombinant L-Glutaminase exhibited profound stability in the presence of several biochemical parameters and demonstrated its metalloenzyme nature and was also found to be highly specific towards favorable substrate (l-Glutamine) based on kinetics. It demonstrated antioxidant property and pronounced cytotoxic effect against breast cancer (MCF-7 cell lines) in a dose dependent behavior with IC50 of 40.68 µg/mL. Matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight-mass spectroscopy (MALDI-TOF-MS) analysis of desired mass peaks ascertained the recombinant L-Glutaminase identity. N-terminal amino acid sequence characterization through Edman degradation revealed highest resemblance for L-glutaminase within the Streptomyces sp. family. The purified protein was characterized structurally and functionally by employing spectroscopic methods like Raman, circular dichroism and nuclear magnetic resonance. The thermostability was assessed by thermogravimetric analysis. The outcomes of the study, suggests the promising application of recombinant L-Glutaminase as targeted therapeutic candidate for breast cancer.

Reduced Reinforced Concrete Material Waste (RRCMW) in building projects is regarded as a critical issue that must be managed. The main purpose of the research is to illustrate the importance of BIM in construction. Also, it is found that the main objectives of this paper are to study the improvement of practicing BIM in Egypt and, practicing of BIM in construction industry in Egypt is also measured. Two questionnaires survey are conducted. The first questionnaire is to measure the improvement of using BIM during the last 7 years and it is discovered that there is a massive improvement in using BIM in this period. The second questionnaire is to determine the adopting value of BIM in Egyptian projects in order to meet the study objective. So, based on the questionnaire analysis, it is discovered that about 94% of consultants actually practicing BIM in 3D while about 72% of contractors agree with practicing BIM in 3D. Also it is found that about 86% and 78% of consultants actually practicing BIM in 4D and 5D while only about 43% and 40% of contractors agree with practicing BIM 4D and 5D model respectively. Only about 61% and 58% considered that BIM is important in 6D and 7D respectively because it isn't widely used in Egypt and engineers use BIM up to 5D. As a result, the findings reveal that the number of consultant's site engineer's respondents are more than contractors because the usage of BIM is effective in the field of design and consultancy more than using in site and while BIM isn't extensively utilized in Egypt, engineers should be familiar with it because it will be a useful tool in the future. So, the main purpose of this study is to illustrate practicing of BIM in the Egyptian construction projects and study the improvement of using BIM during the last 7 years in Egypt because BIM is considered as an important technology used to reduce waste in construction projects from design stage to construction and operation stage but still not used in Egypt in a wide range till now, so it is very crucial to study this issue. Also, another main objective of this study is to compare the development done in using BIM during the last 8 years to make sure that using BIM in Egypt is going on and developed.

This study addresses the pivotal challenge of hydrogen production through methane decomposition, offering a pathway to achieving clean energy goals. Investigating the utilization of titania-modified zirconia dual redox supports (10TiZr) in iron or doped iron-based catalysts for the CH4 decomposition reaction, our research involves a thorough characterization process. This includes analyses of the surface area porosity, X-ray diffraction, Raman-infrared spectroscopy, and temperature-programmed reduction/oxidation. The observed sustained enhancement in catalytic activity over extended durations suggests the in situ formation of catalytically active sites. The introduction of Co or Ni into the 30Fe/10TiZr catalyst leads to the generation of a higher density of reducible species. Furthermore, the Ni-promoted 30Fe/10TiZr catalyst exhibits a lower crystallinity, indicating superior dispersion. Notably, the cobalt-promoted 30Fe/10TiZr catalyst achieves over 80% CH4 conversion and H2 yield within 3 h. Additionally, the Ni-promoted 30Fe/10TiZr catalyst attains a remarkable 87% CH4 conversion and 82% H2 yield after 3 h of the continuous process.
