RESUMEN

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a common herpesvirus that persistently infects a large portion of the world's population. Despite the robust host immune response, HCMV is able to replicate, evade host defenses, and establish latency throughout the lifespan by developing multiple immunomodulatory strategies, making the studies on the interaction between HCMV infection and host response particularly important. HCMV has a strict host specificity that specifically infects humans. Therefore, most of the in vivo researches of HCMV rely on clinical samples. Fortunately, the establishment of humanized mouse models allows for convenient in-lab animal experiments involving HCMV infection. Single-cell RNA sequencing enables the study of the relationship between viral and host gene expressions at the single-cell level within host cells. In this study, we assessed the gene expression alterations of PBMCs at the single-cell level within HCMV-infected humanized mice, which sheds light onto the virus-host interactions in the context of HCMV infection of humanized mice and provides a valuable dataset for the related researches.

Elder abuse is a global public health problem with severe social costs. Research on elder abuse has gradually increased; however, less attention has been paid to older adults' perceptions and experiences of abuse. This review aimed to integrate older adults' perceptions and experiences of abuse to provide a theoretical basis for developing interventions that meet their authentic needs. Six electronic databases were searched to include qualitative studies examining perceptions and experiences of abuse among adults aged 60 years or older, and 22 studies were included. This study used the Joanna Briggs Institute meta-aggregation approach to integrate the qualitative findings, which identified four themes: (a) changes resulting from elder abuse, (b) causes of abuse, (c) barrier factors and facilitating factors to the disclosure of abusive behavior, and (d) adopting different response strategies. The findings revealed that older adults experience persistent physical and psychological burdens and financial stress following abuse. Multiple factors influence the emergence of abuse and older adults search for help from the outside world, especially social support and perceptions of abuse. Older adults can deal with abuse by accepting the status quo or taking steps to change it. These findings have important implications for helping older adults prevent and cope with abuse experiences.

The electrochemical oscillation in Li-ion batteries has been reported for two-phase electrode materials of Li4Ti5O12 and LiCrTiO4, which is originated from the group-by-group phase transition in a multi-particle electrode. For both Li4Ti5O12 and LiCrTiO4, the electrochemical oscillation exhibits usually during charging, while rarely for discharging. Herein, a series of Zr-modified Li4Ti5O12 samples are prepared by using the spray-drying combined with high-temperature sintering method, and the electrochemical oscillation is observed during not only the charging process, but also the discharging process, which gradually grows up and then disappears by increasing the Li content. Compared with Li4Ti5O12, the specific capacity of Zr-modified Li4Ti5O12 decreases gradually by increasing the Zr/Ti ratio, owing to the impurity phases. According to the XRD, XPS and STEM results, the Zr element tends to accumulate on the surface to form ZrO2 nanoparticles, rather than dope into the bulk phase of Li4Ti5O12, which makes Li4Ti5O12 particles well dispersive. In contrast to the Li deficiency for only charging, the electrochemical oscillation during both charging and discharging should be attributed to the Li excess, but too much Li2TiO3 phase will suppress the electrochemical oscillation. Therefore, the Li excess can induce the electrochemical oscillation during both charging and discharging of Zr-modified Li4Ti5O12, which can be adopted to investigate the electrochemical oscillation of other materials in LIBs.

AIM: This systematic review aimed to assess the psychometric properties of existing nursing informatics scales of competence and provide an evidence-based basis for selecting the most appropriate assessment instruments for specific populations. BACKGROUND: Informatics competency is one of the fundamental competencies that nurses should have. Using an informatics competency assessment instrument is an effective way to identify competency gaps and develop a professional development plan to address them. However, no systematic reviews summarizing and assessing the psychometric properties of all nursing informatics competency assessment instruments exist. DESIGN: This study systematically reviews measurement properties using the Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) methodology. METHODS: Eight electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, CINAHL Complete, MEDLINE, PsychInfo, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and WanFang Data) were systematically searched from inception until January 10, 2024. Methodological quality was assessed using the COSMIN Risk of Bias Checklist. We used the COSMIN criteria to summarize and rate the psychometric properties. RESULTS: Twenty-seven studies reported twenty-five various versions of the instruments. Eighteen instruments assessed only one to three psychometric properties. No studies report cross-cultural effectiveness/measurement invariance and measurement error. The quality of evidence for structural validity or internal consistency for the three instruments failed to satisfy the COSMIN criteria. The SANICS-C has moderate to high-quality evidence of adequate content validity and internal consistency. In the end, the SANICS-C was an A recommendation, three instruments were C recommendations and the rest were B recommendations. CONCLUSION: The Nursing Informatics Competencies Scale for Nursing Students, SANICS-C and ICAT can be used to assess the informatics competencies of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral nursing students, respectively. The C-NICAS-FR is recommended for the assessment of nurses' informatics competence. The Self-Assessment Questionnaire for Nursing Informatics Competencies of Nursing Manager can be recommended for assessing nurse leaders' informatics competencies. Future research needs to validate these instruments' cross-cultural applicability further and comprehensively assess their psychometric properties. Along with emerging technologies, researchers should continually revisit and revise existing assessment instruments and develop instruments to assess the informatics competencies of nursing teachers.

Ultrasensitive photoelectric detection of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) with PHI under visible light irradiation at room temperature (RT) remains an ongoing challenge due to the low charge separation and scarce adsorption sites. In this work, a dimensionally matched ultrathin CoNiHHTP MOF/PHI Z-scheme heterojunction is successfully constructed by taking advantage of the π-π interactions existing between the CoNiHHTP MOF and PHI. The amount-optimized heterojunction possesses a record detection limit of 1 ppb (response = 15.6%) for NO2 under 405 nm irradiation at RT, with reduced responsive (3.6 min) and recovery (2.7 min) times, good selectivity and reversibility, and long-time stability (150 days) compared with PHI, even superior to others reported at RT. Based on the time-resolved photoluminescence spectra, in situ X-ray photoelectron spectra, and diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy results, the resulting sensing performance is attributed to the favorable Z-scheme charge transfer and separation. Moreover, the Ni nodes favorably present in adjacent metal sites between the lamellae contribute to charge transfer and redistribution, whereas Co nodes could act as selective centers for promoted adsorption of NO2. Interestingly, it is confirmed that the CoNiHHTP MOF/PHI heterojunction could effectively reduce the influence of O2 in the gas-sensitive reaction due to their unique bimetallic (Co and Ni) nodes, which is also favorable for the improved sensing performances for NO2. This work provides a feasible strategy to develop promising PHI-based optoelectronic gas sensors at RT.

Astragalus membranaceus polysaccharide (APS) possesses excellent immunomodulatory activity. However, there are several studies on the structural characterization of APS. Here, we aimed to elucidate the repeating units of polysaccharides (APS1, 106.5 kDa; APS2, 114.5 kDa) obtained from different Astragalus membranaceus origins and further investigated their immunomodulatory activities. Based on structural analysis, types of the two polysaccharides were identified as arabinogalactan-I (AG-I) and arabinogalactan-II (AG-II), and co-elution of arabinogalactans (AGs) and α-glucan was observed. The backbone of AG-I was 1,4-linked ß-Galp occasionally substituted by α-Araf at O-2 and/or O-3. AG-II was a highly branched polysaccharide with long branches of α-Araf, which were attached to the O-3 of 1,6-linked ß-Galp of the backbone. The presence of AGs in A. membranaceus was confirmed for the first time. The two polysaccharides could promote the expression of IL-6, IL-1ß and TNF-α in RAW264.7 cells via MAPKs and NF-κB signaling pathways. The constants for APS1 and APS2 binding to Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) were 1.83 × 10-5 and 2.08 × 10-6, respectively. Notably, APS2 showed better immunomodulatory activity than APS1, possibly because APS2 contained more AGs. Hence, the results suggested that AGs were the vital components of APS in the immunomodulatory effect.

Globally, obesity and asthma pose significant health challenges, with obesity being a key factor influencing asthma. Despite this, effective treatments for obese asthma, a distinct phenotype, remain elusive. Since the discovery of transient receptor potential (TRP) channels in 1969, their value as therapeutic targets for various diseases has been acknowledged. TRP channels, present in adipose tissue cells, influence fat cell heat production and the secretion of adipokines and cytokines, which are closely associated with asthma and obesity. This paper aims to investigate the mechanisms by which obesity exacerbates asthma-related inflammation and suggests that targeting TRP channels in adipose tissue could potentially suppress obese asthma and offer novel insights into its treatment.
