Objective Abdominal ultrasonography (AUS) is used to screen for abdominal diseases owing to its low cost, safety, and accessibility. However, the detection rate of pancreatic disease using AUS is unsatisfactory. We evaluated the visualization area of the pancreas and the efficacy of manipulation techniques for AUS with fusion imaging. Methods Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) volume data were obtained from 20 healthy volunteers in supine and right lateral positions. The MRI volume data were transferred to an ultrasound machine equipped with a fusion imaging software program. We evaluated the visualization area of the pancreas before and after postural changes using AUS with fusion imaging and assessed the liquid-filled stomach method using 500 ml of de-aerated water in 10 randomly selected volunteers. Patients This study included 20 healthy volunteers (19 men and 1 woman) with a mean age of 33.0 (21-37.5) years old. Results Fusion imaging revealed that the visualization area of the entire pancreas using AUS was 55%, which significantly improved to 75% with a postural change and 90% when using the liquid-filled stomach method (p=0.043). Gastrointestinal gas is the main obstacle for visualization of the pancreas. Conclusion Fusion imaging objectively demonstrated that manipulation techniques can improve pancreatic visualization.

BACKGROUND: Knowledge of the natural history and management of hepatic hemangiomas is lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate the natural history of hemangiomas and to elucidate the factors that determine tumor growth and optimal management. METHODS: A total of 211 adult patients were enrolled, with follow-up for more than three years. Follow-up was performed with repeated ultrasonography (US) and laboratory tests for liver function and coagulation factors (platelets, prothrombin time (PT), fibrinogen, thrombin-antithrombin III complex (TAT), D-dimer, and fibrin and fibrinogen degradation products (FDP)). RESULTS: Tumor size decreased in 38.9% of patients, showed no change in 31.3%, and increased in 29.8%. The incidence of a size increase was very high in patients under 40 years of age and decreased gradually with age, whereas the incidence of a size decrease increased with age and increased markedly over 60 years of age. The incidence of an increase in size decreased gradually with size enlargement, whereas the incidence of a decrease in size increased markedly with tumor size and further increased rapidly when hemangiomas became larger than 60 mm. Values of TAT, D-dimer, FDP, and Mac-2 binding protein glycosylation isomer (M2BPGi) were closely related to the change in size of hemangiomas. CONCLUSIONS: Hemangiomas in older patients (>60 years of age) and larger tumors (>60 mm in size) had a tendency to decrease in size, resulting from the reduction in coagulation disorders and the progression of liver fibrosis. Therefore, the majority of patients with hemangiomas can be safely managed by clinical observation.

Here, we report a case of refractory hyponatremia and delayed intracranial hemorrhage following a head injury. A 70-year-old male patient was admitted with complaints of left chest pain and light-headedness after a fall. Hyponatremia recurred despite the correction with intravenous saline. Head computed tomography revealed a chronic subdural hematoma. The subsequent introduction of tolvaptan improved hyponatremia and disorientation. Delayed intracranial hemorrhage is a differential cause of refractory hyponatremia after head contusion. This case is clinically relevant because (i) the diagnostic delay of late-onset intracranial hemorrhage is common but fatal, and (ii) refractory hyponatremia can be a hint of late-onset intracranial hemorrhage.

OBJECTIVES: Medical facilities have been required to effectively utilize insufficient human resources in many countries. Therefore, we qualitatively and quantitively compared physicians' working burden, and assessed advantages and disadvantages of the single- and the multiple-attending physicians systems in inpatient care. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, we extracted electronic health record of patients from a hospital in Japan from April 2017 to October 2018 to compare anonymous statistical data between the single-attending and multiple-attending-physicians system. Then, we conducted a questionnaire survey for all physicians of single and multiple-attending systems, asking about their physical and psychiatric workload, and their reasons and comments on their working styles. RESULTS: The average length of hospital stay was significantly shorter in the multiple-attending system than in the single-attending system, while patients' age, gender, and diagnoses were similar. From the questionnaire survey, no significant difference was found in all categories although physical burden in multiple-attending system tended to be lower than that in single-attending system. Advantages of multiple-attending system extracted from qualitative analysis are (1) improvement of physicians' quality of life (QOL), (2) lifelong-learning effect, and (3) improving the quality of medical care, while disadvantages were (1) risk of miscommunications, (2) conflicting treatment policies among physicians, and (3) patients' concern. CONCLUSIONS: The multiple-attending physician system in the inpatient setting can reduce the average length of stay for patients and also reduce the physical burden on physicians without compromising their clinical performance.

Background: Pre-discharge home assessment visits for elderly hospitalized patients are conducted by the hospital staff to ensure a smooth transition to home care and are effective in preventing falls and reducing the rehospitalization rates. However, the effect of an application that enables the viewing of videos of the patient's home activities during the pre-discharge visit on the multidisciplinary professionals who provide services to the patient has not yet been fully clarified. Methods: Multidisciplinary professionals at 23 facilities located in western Tottori Prefecture who used a video-sharing application (Patto-Mie Net) were invited to be interview participants. Those who agreed were interviewed about the usefulness of the application in their work and its effect on multidisciplinary collaboration. A verbatim transcript was made, and thematic analysis was conducted using the qualitative analysis software NVivo. Results: Twenty-eight people participated in the interviews, including nurses, care managers, rehabilitation specialists, care workers, and other social care professions. Fourteen themes and five categories were generated from the analysis: comprehensive information visualization and transferability, identification of changes over time and prognostic prediction, promoting multidisciplinary collaboration, patient and family reality, and disadvantages and concerns. Conclusion: The use of an application that allows video-sharing of a patient's home movement status during a pre-discharge visit has revealed a variety of benefits for multiple professionals in hospitals and other facilities. In particular, the results were characterized by the psychological closeness between multiple professionals, promotion of interprofessional communication, and sharing of reality, including the psychosocial background of the patient and family.

Background: Knowledge of the relationships between hepatic hemangiomas and coagulopathy and the risk factors for hemangiomas is lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of hepatic hemangiomas associated with coagulopathy, elucidate the causes of coagulopathy, and identify the predictive factors for hemangioma-related complications. Methods: In 281 consecutive patients with hepatic hemangiomas, we performed ultrasonography and conducted serum laboratory tests for liver function and six coagulation factors, i.e., platelets, as well as five coagulation fibrinolytic markers (prothrombin time (PT), fibrinogen, thrombin-antithrombin III complex (TAT), d-dimer, and fibrin and fibrinogen degradation products (FDP)) as indicators of coagulation disorder. Results: Among 281 patients, 56 (19.9%) had abnormal coagulation factors. Abnormal values of d-dimer were most frequently found among the six coagulation factors. The number of abnormal coagulation factors was significantly correlated with tumor size, M2BPGi, and HDL cholesterol, among which tumor size was the most significant independent predictor of the number of abnormal coagulation factors. Conclusions: The prevalence of hepatic hemangiomas associated with coagulopathy was relatively high and became more frequent with increases in tumor size. Predictive factors of hemangioma-related complications were found to be a tumor size of >5 cm in diameter and coagulopathy, especially the elevation of d-dimer.

We report a case of pneumatosis intestinalis (PI) in a hemodialysis patient who presented with anorexia and nausea. Anorexia with postprandial nausea can be caused by gastrointestinal diseases, with one of the rare causes being PI. PI may occur in hemodialysis patients, but it is rarely reported. We experienced a case of benign PI in a hemodialysis patient, for whom the conservative treatment with antibiotics improved the patient's clinical symptoms. In patients with PI, it is important to rule out potentially life-threatening complications, such as the presence of hepatic intraportal gas on CT scan.

Little is known concerning causal factors associated with the size and echogenicity of hepatic hemangiomas. The aim of the present study was to investigate the associations between tumor size and echo pattern and coagulation factors, and to elucidate the growth pattern of hemangiomas. In 214 consecutive patients with hepatic hemangiomas, ultrasonography was performed to determine total tumor number, size, echogenicity and location, and serum laboratory tests for liver function and coagulation factors were carried out. The ultrasonographic appearance of hemangiomas was homogeneous in 75.7% of cases and mixed in 24.3% of cases. A mixed echo pattern was seen in 1 out of 145 masses (0.7%) with a diameter <20 mm, in 30 out of 48 (62.5%) with a diameter of 20-40 mm, and in all of the 21 (100%) with a diameter >40 mm. Platelet counts (P<0.0001) and fibrinogen levels (P<0.01) were lower in patients with larger and mixed tumors. Levels of thrombin-antithrombin III complex (TAT), D-dimer, and fibrin and fibrinogen degradation products (FDP) were significantly elevated along with an increase in tumor size (all P<0.0001), and the number of patients with the abnormal values of TAT, D-dimer, and FDP was significantly higher in the mixed group than in the homogeneous group (all P<0.0001). Fibrinogen (P<0.01), platelet count (P<0.001), portal vein diameter (P<0.0001), splenic index (P<0.01), and levels of TAT, D-dimer and FDP (all P<0.0001) were significantly associated with tumor size. Multivariate analysis revealed TAT, D-dimer and FDP as independent predictors of tumor size. The internal echo pattern became mixed as size increased. The size and echogenicity of hemangiomas were closely associated with coagulation factors. Therefore, it was speculated that differences in size and echogenicity were caused by intratumoral thrombosis and subsequent hemorrhage.

In cholestatic liver diseases, coagulopathy is induced by malabsorption of vitamin K. Supplementation of vitamin K has previously been shown to prevent coagulopathy. In this study, we tested the efficacy of a newly invented micellized vitamin K2 (m-vitK2) in treating coagulopathy, using a rat bile duct ligation (BDL) model. Experiment 1: m-vitK2 (0.3 mg/kg) or m-vitK2 (0.3 mg/kg) mixed with taurocholic acid (TA) (10 mg/body) was orally administrated every day for 7 d from the fourth day after BDL (n=6 for each). Experiment 2: To evaluate absorption, m-vitK2 (0.3 mg/kg) with or without TA (10 mg/body) was orally administered on the fourth day after BDL and compared with the untreated control BDL (n=2 for each). These data were compared with sham-operated (n=6) and untreated control BDL rats (n=6). The m-vitK2 recovered prothrombin time (PT) in Experiment 1 (control 42.7±5.7 s vs. m-vitK2 24.0±9.3 s, p<0.05). Experiment 2 demonstrated that the mixture of m-vitK2 and TA enhanced absorption compared to m-vitK2 alone. Moreover, in Experiment 1, m-vitK2 mixed with TA completely recovered PT (control 42.7±5.7 s vs. m-vitK2+TA 14.9±1.2 s, p<0.01). Micelle sizes decreased with the m-vitK2 and TA treatment (m-vitK2 86.3±5.6 nm vs. m-vitK2+TA 71.9±4.7 nm, p<0.05). Orally administered, newly invented m-vitK2 recovered coagulopathy even under obstructive jaundice. TA decreased the mean micelle size and improved m-vitK2 absorption.

PURPOSE: To assess the agreement between ablative margin (AM) predicted by preablation three-dimensional ultrasonography (3D-US) and AM measured on postablation computed tomography (CT)/magnetic resonance (MR) images. METHODS: Sixty patients with 73 hepatocellular carcinoma nodules were enrolled. 3D-US data were collected immediately after puncture by the electrode before ablation. The maximum distance from the electrode to the edge of the tumor in the plane perpendicular to the electrode (C-plane) was defined as "a" and the diameter of the ablation zone as "b". We classified predicted AM into "0.5b - a" ≥0 mm as AM(+) or <0 mm as AM(-), and "0.5b - a" ≥3 mm or <3 mm. RESULTS: Forty-eight nodules (66 %) were visualized in the C-plane. There was an agreement between the predicted and measured AMs for 39 (81 %) of the 48 nodules. Local tumor progression was observed in 3 (7%) of 43 nodules with predicted AM(+) and in 2 (40 %) of 5 nodules with predicted AM(-) but was not observed in any of 21 nodules with predicted AM ≥ 3 mm. The local tumor progression rate was significantly lower for nodules with predicted AM(+) compared with predicted AM(-)(p = 0.03), and for nodules with predicted AM ≥ 3 mm compared with predicted AM < 3 mm (p = 0.04). Local progression was detected in 2 (4.7 %) of 42 nodules with a sufficient AM (≥0 mm) on postablation CT/MR images and in 5 (83.3 %) of 6 nodules with an insufficient AM (<0 mm); the difference in progression rate was significant (p = 0.0008). CONCLUSION: 3D-US allows prediction of the AM before radiofrequency ablation.

INTRODUCTION: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has a wide spectrum, eventually leading to cirrhosis and hepatic carcinogenesis. We previously reported that a series of microRNAs (miRNAs) mapped in the 14q32.2 maternally imprinted gene region (Dlk1-Dio3 mat) are related to NAFLD development and progression in a mouse model. We examined the suitability of miR-379, a circulating Dlk1-Dio3 mat miRNA, as a human NAFLD biomarker. METHODS: Eighty NAFLD patients were recruited for this study. miR-379 was selected from the putative Dlk1-Dio3 mat miRNA cluster because it exhibited the greatest expression difference between NAFLD and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in our preliminary study. Real-time PCR was used to examine the expression levels of miR-379 and miR-16 as an internal control. One patient was excluded due to low RT-PCR signal. RESULTS: Compared to normal controls, serum miR-379 expression was significantly up-regulated in NAFLD patients. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis suggested that miR-379 is a suitable marker for discriminating NAFLD patients from controls, with an area under the curve value of 0.72. Serum miR-379 exhibited positive correlations with alkaline phosphatase, total cholesterol, low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol and non-high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol levels in patients with early stage NAFLD (Brunt fibrosis stage 0 to 1). The correlation between serum miR-379 and cholesterol levels was lost in early stage NAFLD patients treated with statins. Software-based predictions indicated that various energy metabolism-related genes, including insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and IGF-1 receptor, are potential targets of miR-379. CONCLUSIONS: Serum miR-379 exhibits high potential as a biomarker for NAFLD. miR-379 appears to increase cholesterol lipotoxicity, leading to the development and progression of NAFLD, via interference with the expression of target genes, including those related to the IGF-1 signaling pathway. Our results could facilitate future research into the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of NAFLD.

INTRODUCTION: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is considered a safe and minimally invasive procedure. We previously reported that the mortality and complication rates for RFA were 0.038% (5/13,283 patients) and 3.54% (579 complications/16,346 procedures), respectively, from 1999 to 2010 (previous period). In this study, we investigated the clinical criteria for RFA and the mortality and complication rates from 2011 to 2015 (recent period). METHODS: Data were collected from 25 centers by using a questionnaire developed by the Chugoku-Shikoku Society for Local Ablation Therapy of HCC. The criteria for RFA, RFA modification, use of image-guidance modalities, mortality, and complications during the previous and recent periods were compared. RESULTS: We evaluated 11,298 procedures for 9,411 patients, including those that involved new devices (bipolar RFA and internally adjustable electrode system). The criterion of hepatic function for RFA increased from a Child-Pugh score ≤8 during the previous period to ≤9 during the recent period. The criteria regarding the tumor location and other risk factors have been expanded recently because of the increased use of several modifications of the RFA procedure and image-guidance modalities. The mortality rate was 0.064% (6/9,411 patients), and the complication rate was 2.92% (330 complications/11,298 procedures). There was no difference in mortality rates between the 2 periods (p = 0.38), but the complication rates was significantly lower during the recent period (p = 0.038). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: Our findings confirmed that RFA, including the use of new devices, is a low-risk procedure for HCC, despite the expansion of the criteria for RFA during the recent period.

BACKGROUND: The options for the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are limited. We examined the effects of ipragliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor, on the fatty liver Shionogi (FLS)-ob/ob mice, a non-alcoholic steatohepatitis mouse model. METHODS: FLS-ob/ob male mice were treated with vehicle (n = 10) and ipragliflozin (n = 8). Serum metabolic markers, histopathology of the liver, hepatic cholesterol and triglyceride levels and hepatic mRNA levels related to fibrosis, lipid metabolism and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The body weight and hepatic cholesterol and triglyceride levels were significantly decreased in the ipragliflozin group compared with the control group. Hepatic steatosis and fibrosis were significantly ameliorated by the treatment with ipragliflozin. Hepatic infiltration of macrophage, expression levels of 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and hepatic mRNA levels of ER stress markers were not significantly modulated by the treatment with ipragliflozin. CONCLUSION: Ipragliflozin can be a therapeutic option for patients with NASH. The precise mechanisms of action need to be clarified in future studies.

BACKGROUND: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease/steatohepatitis (NAFLD/NASH) is a chronic liver disease related to metabolic syndrome that can progress to liver cirrhosis. The involvement of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress response in NAFLD progression and the roles played by activating factor 3 (ATF3) and the downstream nuclear protein 1 (NUPR1) are poorly understood. The aim of this study was to determine the gene expression profiles around the ATF3/NUPR1 axis in relation to the development of NAFLD using novel mouse models. METHODS: Fatty liver Shionogi (FLS) mice (n = 12) as a NAFLD model and FLS-ob/ob mice (n = 28) as a NASH model were fed a standard diet. The FLS mice were sacrificed at 24 weeks of age as a control, whereas the FLS-ob/ob mice were sacrificed at 24, 36, and 48 weeks of age. Hepatic steatosis, inflammation, and fibrosis were evaluated by biochemical, histological, and gene expression analyses. The expression levels of the ER-stress related genes Jun proto-oncogene (C-jun), Atf3, Nupr1, and C/EBP homologous protein (Chop) were measured in liver tissue. Apoptosis was evaluated by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) staining. RESULTS: Control mice demonstrated hepatic steatosis alone without apparent fibrosis. On the other hand, FLS-ob/ob mice showed severe steatohepatitis at both 24 and 36 weeks of age and severe fibrosis at both 36 and 48 weeks of age. The expression levels of Atf3, Nupr-1, and C-jun significantly increased from 24 to 48 weeks of age in FLS-ob/ob mice compared with control mice. The expression level of Chop was already high in FLS mice and maintained similar levels in FLS-ob/ob mice; the expression level was consistent with the percentage of TUNEL-positive cells. CONCLUSION: The ATF3/NUPR1 axis plays a pivotal role in NASH progression in association with C-jun and Chop and appears to induce apoptosis from early steatosis in the NASH model mice.

BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) are major health burdens closely related to metabolic syndrome. A link between CKD and NASH has been assumed; however, the underlying mechanism is still unknown. Ectopic lipid deposition (ELD) in the hepatocyte results in endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, which plays an important role in the development of steatohepatitis. ELD is also assumed to play a role in the development of kidney injury. We aimed to investigate the role of ELD and ER stress in the development of CKD, and evaluate the efficacy of a sodium glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor, ipragliflozin. METHODS: Male FLS-ob/ob mice that closely imitate the pathophysiology of NASH were treated with vehicle or ipragliflozin. Metabolic characteristics, histology of the kidney, ER stress, and apoptotic signals were evaluated. RESULTS: The serum triglyceride was significantly lower in mice treated with ipragliflozin. Ipragliflozin reduced ELD in renal tubules. Ipragliflozin also reduced the expression levels of GRP78 and CHOP, apoptotic cells, and interstitial fibrosis. CONCLUSIONS: ELD induced kidney injury through ER stress. Ipragliflozin improved the pathogenesis of CKD by reducing ELD and ER stress in NASH-model mice. Our results suggest ipragliflozin has therapeutic effect on CKD in NASH.

RESUMEN

A 66-year-old man presented at our emergency department with severe intermittent abdominal pain. His history revealed that he had eaten several mochi (rice cakes) without sufficiently chewing them before swallowing. Following computed tomography that showed a high value, he was diagnosed with an obstruction caused by mochi. Although mochi obstruction can sometimes improve with conservative treatment, this case required laparotomy. Medical literature in English on small bowel obstruction due to mochi is rare, but fortunately in this case we were able to collect complete laboratory and imaging data. Furthermore, due to the surgical findings, we could clearly diagnose the pathophysiology of mochi obstruction. Here we describe a case of small bowel obstruction due to mochi, and review the literature to determine the characteristics of intestinal obstruction caused by it.

PURPOSE: To investigate the association of renal elasticity to microscopic findings of nephron hypertrophy and nephrosclerosis. METHODS: Patients who underwent renal biopsy were enrolled. Renal elasticity was measured by acoustic radiation force impulse, and nephron size (glomerular volume, non-sclerotic glomerular density, and mean profile tubular area) and nephrosclerosis (globally sclerotic glomeruli and interstitial fibrosis) were estimated. Nephron hypertrophy was indicated by larger glomerular volume, larger tubular area, and lower non-sclerotic glomerular density. Nephrosclerosis was indicated by a higher percentage of globally sclerotic glomeruli and higher severity of fibrosis. RESULTS: Renal elasticity was negatively correlated with glomerular volume (r = - 0.480, P = 0.024) and mean tubular area (r = - 0.469, P = 0.028), but it was not correlated with non-sclerotic glomerular density (r = 0.205, P = 0.359), percentage of globally sclerotic glomeruli (r = 0.057, P = 0.800), and severity of fibrosis (r = 0.014, P = 0.950). In a multiple linear regression analysis, glomerular volume and mean tubular area were independently associated with renal elasticity (std ß = - 0.454, P = 0.015 and std ß = - 0.577, P = 0.007, respectively). CONCLUSION: Renal elasticity was correlated with microstructural findings of nephron hypertrophy. Measuring renal elasticity could help in detecting kidney disease.

AIM: As it is not practical to perform regular screening for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in all patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), there is a need to identify NAFLD patients who are at high risk for HCC. Wisteria floribunda agglutinin-positive Mac-2 binding protein (WFA+ -M2BP) has been shown to be a surrogate marker for predicting HCC as well as a liver fibrosis marker in patients with chronic hepatitis B and C. The aim of this study was to investigate whether WFA+ -M2BP predicts HCC development in NAFLD patients. METHODS: Serum WFA+ -M2BP was retrospectively measured in 331 patients with histologically proven NAFLD, 51 of whom developed HCC. The association of WFA+ -M2BP and HCC development in NAFLD patients was investigated. RESULTS: The WFA+ -M2BP values were significantly greater in NAFLD patients with HCC than in those without HCC among patients with liver fibrosis ≥stage 3. Multivariate analysis identified WFA+ -M2BP as one of the predictive factors for HCC development (odds ratio, 1.57; 95% confidence interval, 1.083-2.265; P = 0.017). The optimal cut-off index of WFA+ -M2BP for predicting HCC was 1.255 with specificity of 78.4% and sensitivity of 70.4%. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve value for the prediction of HCC development was 0.806. The cumulative incidence rate of HCC was significantly greater in patients with WFA+ -M2BP ≥ 1.255 (n = 61) than in those with WFA+ -M2BP < 1.255 (n = 137) among patients who were followed up for more than 2 years after the diagnosis of NAFLD. CONCLUSIONS: Wisteria floribunda agglutinin-positive Mac-2 binding protein predicts HCC development and is a useful surrogate marker for identifying NAFLD patients who are at a high risk for HCC.

Spontaneous rupture is a life-threatening complication of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Detecting active bleeding is critical. Color Doppler and contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (CEUS) with Levovist® are reported to be useful for detecting active bleeding. A few reports have described using Sonazoid® to detect bleeding in ruptured HCC. This report describes two distinctive patterns of bleeding from ruptured HCC observed in CEUS with Sonazoid®. Four patients with suspected HCC rupture were examined by gray-scale ultrasonography (US) and then CEUS with Sonazoid®. Two patterns of bleeding were observed with CEUS: jet-like extravasation (n = 2) and bubble leakage (n = 2). While contrast-enhanced computed tomography and angiography revealed active bleeding in only one patient, CEUS detected active bleeding and enabled the bleeding site to be estimated in all patients. Transcatheter arterial embolization was performed based on the findings of CEUS, and hemostasis was achieved in all patients. CEUS using Sonazoid® could demonstrate active bleeding as two patterns, and these findings enabled us to detect the rupture site of HCC more confidently than with other modalities.
