RESUMEN

Renal ischemia/reperfusion injury (RIRI) is an inevitable complication following kidney transplantation surgery, accompanied by the generation of a large amount of free radicals. A cascade of events including oxidative stress, extreme inflammation, cellular apoptosis, and thrombosis disrupts the microenvironment of renal cells and the hematological system, ultimately leading to the development of acute kidney injury (AKI). The current research primarily focuses on reducing inflammation and mitigating damage to renal cells through antioxidative approaches. However, studies on simultaneously modulating the renal hematologic system remain unreported. Herein, potent and novel drug-loaded nanomicelles can be efficiently self-assembled with magnolol (MG) and ebselen (EBS) by π-π conjugation, hydrophobic action and the surfactant properties of Tween-80. The ultrasmall MG/EBS nanomicelles (average particle size: 10-25 nm) not only fully preserve the activity of both drugs, but also greatly enhance drug utilization (encapsulation rates: MG: 90.1%; EBS: 49.3%) and reduce drug toxicity. Furthermore, EBS, as a glutathione peroxidase mimic and NO catalyst, combines with the multifunctional MG to scavenge free radicals and hydroperoxides, significantly inhibiting inflammation and thrombosis while effectively preventing apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells and renal tubular epithelial cells. This study provides a new strategy and theoretical foundation for the simultaneous regulation of kidney cells and blood microenvironment stability.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Depression and suicidal ideation often co-occur in children and adolescents, yet they possess distinct characteristics. This study sought to identify the different related factors associated with depression and suicidal ideation. METHODS: A nationwide cross-sectional survey collected data from Chinese children and adolescents aged 8 to 18 (N = 160,962; 48.91 % girls). The survey included inquiries about demographics, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, perceived stress, academic burnout, internet addiction, non-suicidal self-injury, bullying, and being bullied. Fifteen machine learning algorithms were conducted to identify the different related factors associated with depression and suicidal ideation. Additionally, we conducted external validation on an independent sample of 1,812,889 children and adolescents. RESULTS: Our findings revealed seven related factors linked to depression and six associated with suicidal ideation, with average accuracy rates of 86.86 % and 85.82 %, respectively. For depression, the most influential factors were anxiety, perceived stress, academic burnout, internet addiction, non-suicidal self-injury, experience of bullying, and age. Similarly, anxiety, non-suicidal self-injury, perceived stress, internet addiction, academic burnout, and age emerged as paramount factors for suicidal ideation. Moreover, these related factors showed notable variations in their predictive capacities for depression and suicidal ideation across different subgroups. CONCLUSION: Anxiety emerged as the predominant shared factor for both depression and suicidal ideation, whereas the other related factors displayed distinct predictive patterns for each condition. These findings highlight the critical need for tailored strategies from public mental health service providers and policymakers to address the pressing concerns of depression and suicidal ideation.

RESUMEN

Background: The significant influence of family emotional expressiveness (FEE) on adolescents' face-to-face social interactions is well-established. However, there has been limited investigation into potential links between FEE and adolescents' online social behaviors, especially cyberbullying bystander behaviors, which are pivotal in cyberbullying incidents. This study aimed to assess the relative importance of different aspects of FEE (positive FEE vs. negative FEE vs. the Positive-to-Negative ratio) in predicting adolescents' cyberbullying bystander behaviors, and the mediating roles of affective and cognitive empathy in these relationships. Methods: A sample of 1,952 adolescents (Mage = 14.18, SD = 1.33) completed questionnaires, including the Family Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire, Basic Empathy Scale, and Cyberbullying Bystander Behavior Scale. SPSS 26.0 and Mplus 8.3 were used for analysis. Results: (1) Positive FEE exhibited a positive association with protective behavior and a negative association with indifferent behavior. Conversely, negative FEE showed positive associations with reinforcing and indifferent behaviors. However, the Positive-to-Negative ratio did not exhibit significant associations with any of the three bystander behaviors. (2) Negative FEE emerged as relatively more significant than both positive FEE and the Positive-to-Negative ratio in predicting reinforcing and indifferent behaviors. (3) Affective empathy mediated the relationship between positive FEE and reinforcing behavior, while cognitive empathy mediated the relationship between positive FEE and protective and indifferent behaviors. Moreover, cognitive empathy exerted a more influential role than affective empathy in this mediation process. Conclusion: Various aspects of FEE demonstrated distinct relationships with three cyberbullying bystander behaviors, with affective and cognitive empathy playing an important mediating role in the association. This finding holds substantial implications for the development of cyberbullying prevention strategies. Such strategies could target the reduction of negative emotional expression within adolescent families and the cultivation of both cognitive and affective empathy.

RESUMEN

Introduction: With China embracing a new people-centered urbanization stage, the problem of migrants "flowing without moving" has become increasingly prominent, and settlement intention has gradually garnered attention. Methods: Our research, based on questionnaire data from the China Labor Force Dynamic Survey 2016, uses a multilevel linear regression model to explore the influence of mobility, social environment, built environment, and demographics characteristics on settlement intention in the migrants and discusses differences between settlement intention of new and old generations and their internal influence mechanism. Results: The findings are as follows: (1) Compared to the old generation, the new migrant generation generally has higher settlement intention. (2) The migrants' settlement intention is influenced mainly by mobility, social environment, built environment, and demographic characteristics. (3) For the new migrant generation, social and demographic characteristics significantly influence their settlement intention. (4) The floating and built environment of the old generation significantly influence their settlement intention. Discussion: Finally, this paper argues that there are differences in the influence mechanism of the same factors on the settlement intention of the new and old generations of migrants. It proposes differentiated policy suggestions for the migrants to promote city social integration. Finally, this paper argues that there are differences in the influence mechanism of the same factors on the settlement intention of the new and old generations of migrants. RESUMEN

This study developed the Couple Interaction Pattern Scale (CIPS) based on the interpersonal theory, comprising five subscales: friendly complementary (FC), hostile complementary (HC), mutual hostile-dominant (MHD), friendly-dominant eliciting hostile-submissive (FDHS), and hostile-dominant eliciting friendly-submissive (HDFS). The psychometric properties of the CIPS were examined through three independent studies. Study one conducted item reduction and preliminary analysis using a sample of 662 married individuals, with an additional 80 married individuals for test-retest reliability assessment. Study two validated the scale through 1207 married individuals. In study three, the effect of couple interaction pattern (CIP) on marital quality was analyzed among 310 newlywed couples using the actor-partner interdependence model (APIM). Results supported the construct validity, acceptable internal consistency, and test-retest reliability of the CIPS. Besides, concurrent validity was also proved by associations with conflictual communication patterns, marital quality, stability, emotional connection, and perceived partner support. APIM analysis also supported the association between CIP and marital quality.

RESUMEN

This study examined the reciprocal prospective associations between commitment, forgiveness, and different aspects of marital well-being (marital satisfaction and marital instability) among Chinese newlywed couples and the gender differences in these associations. The Vulnerability-Stress-Adaptation (VSA) model posits reciprocal associations between adaptive processes and relationship satisfaction. However, the directionality of the associations between adaptive processes and marital satisfaction may differ from the associations between adaptive processes and marital instability in Chinese societies due to the emphasis on relationship maintenance. Based on three annual waves of data from 268 Chinese newlywed couples (Mage = 29.59, SD = 3.25 for husbands; Mage = 28.08, SD = 2.51 for wives), a cross-lagged approach was used to examine the reciprocal associations between commitment, forgiveness, and marital satisfaction/instability. We found: (a) reciprocal associations between commitment/forgiveness and marital satisfaction (wives only); (b) reciprocal associations between forgiveness and marital instability (husbands only); and (c) wives' commitment at Wave 2 mediated the association between wives' commitment at Wave 1 and wives' marital satisfaction at Wave 3. Extending the VSA model, findings suggest different reciprocal associations between commitment, forgiveness, and different aspects of marital well-being among Chinese newlywed couples. Results highlight the important role of culture and gender in marital relationships and clinical practice.

RESUMEN

Conductive hydrogels feature the flexibility of soft materials plus conductive properties providing functionality for effectively sticking to the epidermis and detecting human activity signals. Their stable electrical conductivity also effectively avoids the problem of uneven distribution of solid conductive fillers inside traditional conductive hydrogels. However, the simultaneous integration of high mechanical strength, stretchability, and transparency through a simple and green fabrication method remains a great challenge. Herein, a polymerizable deep eutectic solvent (PDES) composed of choline chloride and acrylic acid was added to a biocompatible PVA matrix. The double-network hydrogels were then simply prepared by thermal polymerization and one freeze-thaw method. The introduction of the PDES significantly improved the tensile properties (1.1 MPa), ionic conductivity (2.1 S/m), and optical transparency (90%) of the PVA hydrogels. When the gel sensor was fixed to human skin, real-time monitoring of a variety of human activities could be implemented with accuracy and durability. Such a simple preparation method performed by combining a deep eutectic solvent with traditional hydrogels offers a new avenue to construct multifunctional conductive hydrogel sensors with excellent performance.

RESUMEN

Based on three annual waves of data from 268 Chinese newlyweds (Mage = 29.59, SD = 3.25 for husbands; Mage = 28.08, SD = 2.51 for wives), the present study examined the bidirectional associations between external stressors, perceived spousal support, and marital instability by using a three-wave, cross-lagged approach. Results indicated bidirectional associations between external stressors and marital instability, and a unidirectional association linking marital instability to perceived spousal support. Additionally, external stressors at Wave 2 mediated the association between external stressors at Wave 1 and marital instability at Wave 3. Taken together, the present study contributes to an emerging body of research aimed at clarifying: (a) the directionality of the associations between external stressors, perceived spousal support, and marital instability; (b) how external stressors cumulatively affect the development of marital instability. Our study extends the Vulnerability-Stress-Adaptation (VSA) model and has developmental implications for promoting marital relationships in non-Western couples.

RESUMEN

Aqueous phase of bio-oil (APBO) is water-rich but also contains some sugar-derivatives and phenolics. APBO has little potential as feedstock for producing biofuel, but can be potentially used as medium for hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of biomass. In this study, the HTC of lignin in APBO was conducted, aiming to probe the influence of the organics in APBO on property of the hydrochar. The results indicated that the organics in APBO cross-polymerized with lignin derivatives, resulted in the yield of hydrochar to exceed 100%. In addition, APBO promotes the deoxygenation but does not promote dehydrogenation. More aliphatic structures are generated in the hydrochar, reducing its thermal stability. In addition, the hydrochar from APBO also shows the improved combustion performance by lowering the activation energy and the ignition temperature (180 vs 240 °C).

RESUMEN

In this work, novel hypercrosslinked polymer-based hollow microporous organic capsules with a polyaniline (PANI)-modified shell (PANI@S-HMOCs) are prepared by in-situ polymerization of aniline in the porous structure of the sulfonated hollow microporous organic capsules (S-HMOCs). PANI@S-HMOC1, PANI@S-HMOC2, and PANI@S-HMOC3 are made by adjusting S-HMOCs and aniline weight ratios of 4:1 and 3:1, and 2:1, respectively. The characterizations of PANI@S-HMOCs demonstrate that electrostatic interaction between aniline and sulfonic acid groups plays an important role in encapsulating PANI in the pores of the shell. The content of PANI shows an evident effect on the porosity of PANI@S-HMOCs, and an appropriate polyaniline loading amount may increase the surface area. PANI@S-HMOC1 and PANI@S-HMOC2 have higher BET surface areas (529 and 503 m2 g-1 ) than S-HMOCs (424 m2 g-1 ), but PANI@S-HMOC3 has lower BET surface area (380 m2 g-1 ). Based on the structural and textural features, PANI@S-HMOC2 shows good adsorption performance for Cr(VI) from aqueous media (156 mg g-1 , pH = 2, and 27 mg g-1 , pH = 7).

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The vital-sign monitoring strategy of patients with acute aortic dissection in the emergency department is mainly based on traditional experience. This study attempts to explore the significance of the national early warning score (NEWS) in monitoring the condition of patients with acute aortic dissection during emergency observation and to provide evidence for emergency nurses in optimal and scientific monitoring of patients. METHODS: The case-control method was used to continuously enrol patients with acute aortic dissection who had been in the emergency department; the STROBE checklist was used in this process. Based on patients' clinical deterioration, they were divided into two groups: clinical deterioration and non-clinical deterioration. The NEWS at each time point was compared by independent-samples t-test, and the predictive power of NEWS was evaluated according to the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. RESULTS: A total of 290 patients with acute aortic dissection were included: 46 patients showed clinical deterioration and 244 did not. There were significant differences in the NEW scores of the two groups at admission time and at 12, 8, 4 and 0.5 h before clinical deterioration. The NEW scores of the clinical deterioration group showed an upward trend, while the non-clinical deterioration group showed a relatively stable trend. The NEWS can be used to predict the occurrence of clinical deterioration earlier at 4 h before clinical deterioration. Simultaneously, the patient's respiration rate and SpO2 had better predictive performance than other vital signs. CONCLUSION: The NEWS can be used to triage patients with acute aortic dissection admitted to the emergency department. Continuous use of the NEWS for monitoring can play a vital role in early warning of clinical deterioration in patients with acute aortic dissection. In clinical care, attention should also be paid when patients with acute aortic dissection have abnormal respiration rate and SpO2 .

RESUMEN

Envy is a mixed negative emotion that is characterized by feelings of hostility, inferiority, resentment, and depression. It has been found that mindfulness is negatively associated with envy. This paper aimed to explore the interaction between mindfulness and envy by referring to the mindful emotion regulation model, and it also examines the mediation of emotional intelligence. Six hundred and seventy-six participants (182 men and 494 women) completed the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, the Dispositional Envy Scale, and the Wong Law Emotional Intelligence Scale. Results suggest that mindfulness is significantly and negatively correlated with envy. Meanwhile, a multiple mediation analysis indicated that regulation of emotion and use of emotion partially mediate the impact of mindfulness on envy. The current study not only provides a theoretical basis for possible mechanisms underlying the inhibition of envy, but also provides valuable guidance for developing mindfulness-based intervention programs aiming at reducing the negative effects of envy.

RESUMEN

To study the effect of H2O2 on the content and properties of humic acids (HAs) in lignites, the experimental conditions including oxidation time, H2O2 concentration, and the solid-liquid ratio were investigated. Under the optimum oxidation conditions, the contents of HAs of YL and HB lignite were 45.4 and 40.9%, respectively. The HAs extracted from oxidized and raw lignites were characterized and compared. The results showed that the HAs extracted from oxidized lignites contain more total acidic groups, carboxyl groups, and aliphatic carbon than that in HAs extracted from raw lignites, and their hydrophilic-hydrophobic index value is higher and thermooxidative stability is better than those in HAs extracted from raw lignites. In addition, the composition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and fluorophore types in HAs extracted from oxidized lignites are similar to the HAs extracted from raw lignites. The results indicated that the oxidation operation can increase the content of HAs in lignites, and simultaneously increase the content of oxygen-containing functional groups and biological activity of HAs, which provided a reference for the subsequent application of HAs.

RESUMEN

Co-hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of livestock manure and biomass might improve the fuel properties of the hydrochar due to the high reactivity of the biomass-derived intermediates with the abundant oxygen-containing functionalities. However, the complicated compositions make it difficult to explicit the specific roles of the individual components of biomass played in the co-HTC process. In this study, cellulose was used for co-HTC with swine manure to investigate the influence on the properties of the hydrochar. The yield of hydrochar obtained from co-HTC reduced gradually with the cellulose proportion increased, and the solid yield was lower than the theoretical value. This was because the cellulose-derived intermediates favored the stability of the fragments from hydrolysis of swine manure. The increased temperature resulted in the reduction of the hydrochar yield whereas the prolonged time enhanced the formation of solid product. The interaction of the co-HTC intermediates facilitated the formation of O-containing species, thus making the solid more oxygen- and hydrogen-rich with a higher volatility. In addition, the co-HTC affected the evolution of functionalities like -OH and CO during the thermal treatment of the hydrochar and altered its morphology by stuffing the pores from swine manure-derived solid with the microspheres from HTC of cellulose. The interaction of the varied intermediates also impacted the formation of amines, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, aromatics and the polymeric products in distinct ways.

RESUMEN

The application of biomass-based carbon materials in electrode materials are usually subject to their deficient adsorption sites as well as sluggish diffusion of electrolyte ions. Herein, flower-like carbons are obtained from the heavy fraction of bio-oil with the auxiliary of Hydrogen-bonded frameworks (HOFs) crystals. During the co-carbonization of the both, the HOFs crystals are removed on account of its poor stability, which directs the formation of flower-like morphology and generates the penetrable meso/macropores across petal-like carbon nanosheets. In addition, the pyrolysis gases serve as the agents for activation to enrich the active sites without the further activation. The degree of graphitization and the contents of pyridine nitrogen for carbon materials could be flexibly adjusted with the contents of HOFs. Owing to the beneficial 3D flower-like structure, high specific surface area (1076 m2/g), large pore volume (2.59 cm3/g), and rational N species, the assembled Zn//BH-4 hybrid supercapacitor reaches a superior energy density of 117.5 Wh/kg at 890 W/kg and maintains 60.7 Wh/kg even at 16.2 kW/kg.

RESUMEN

Swine and chicken manures are abundant solid wastes that can be converted into carbonaceous materials through hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). Owing to their unique biochemical compositions, co-HTC of these two types of manures may have significant implications for the generated products. We investigated the co-HTC of swine manure and chicken manure to understand the influence of the interaction between contrasting manures on the properties of the derived products. The results indicated that co-HTC treatment enhanced the formation of solid product and improved the C and N contents, heating value, and energy yield of the resulting hydrochar. Regarding the ignition temperature and comprehensive combustion index, the combustion properties of the hydrochar were enhanced owing to the mutual effect of the HTC intermediates. Additionally, the interaction of the intermediates significantly impacted the transfer of nitrogenous species and generation of organic acids and organic polymers with fused-ring structures. Therefore, co-HTC processing of animal manures could potentially provide a sustainable pathway for the conversion of animal waste into solid products with improved characteristics compared to those produced by treating the two feedstocks separately.

RESUMEN

Heteroatom doping is regarded as a promising approach to enhance the electrochemical performance of carbon materials, while the poor controllability of heteroatoms remains the main challenge. In this context, sulfur-doped graphdiyne (S-GDY) was successfully synthesized on the surface of copper foil using a sulfur-containing multi-acetylene monomer to form a uniform film. The S-GDY film possesses a porous structure and abundant sulfur atoms decorated homogeneously in the carbon skeleton, which facilitate the fast diffusion and storage of lithium ions. The lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) fabricated with S-GDY as anode exhibit excellent performance, including the high specific capacity of 920 mA h g-1 and superior rate performances. The LIBs also show long-term cycling stability under the high current density. This result could potentially provide a modular design principle for the construction of high-performance anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

RESUMEN

In this work, industrial biomass power plant ash was used to synthesize the ZSM-5 zeolites for the first time with the original intention to turn value-added material into wealth, and then committed to adsorption performance testing. Typical chemical structure and morphology of ZSM-5 zeolite were identified by comprehensive technologies. Uniquely, it was found that there was a low pressure hysteresis loop which was caused by crossed 10-membered rings in the N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm. To investigate the adsorption performance for dyes, the zeolite samples were used to remove cationic (MB) and anionic (CR) dyes from aqueous. The results demonstrated that when it came to adsorbing MB, the isotherm was in line with the Redlich-Peterson model (R 2 > 0.99), whereas it was matched up with the Sips model (R 2 > 0.99) for adsorbing CR. Kinetic models were assigned to the pseudo-second order equation (R 2 ≥ 0.99) along with remarkable intraparticle diffusion. In the end, thermodynamic parameters were ΔG 0 < 0, and E a > 0. Especially, adsorbing MB was ΔS 0 > 0, and ΔH 0 > 0, whilst adsorbing CR was ΔS 0 < 0, and ΔH 0 < 0, which indicates that electrostatic interaction plays a significant role in the whole process. All in all, this work might encourage novel attempts to dispose of industrial biomass ash.

RESUMEN

Porous organic polymers (POPs), allowing fine synthetic control over their chemical structures, have shown great promise for addressing environmental issues. The high specific surface area and abundant porous structures of POPs can provide large storage space to adsorb dye molecules. Meanwhile, the introduction of polar groups, such as oxygen-containing functional groups in POPs, can not only improve the hydrophilicity, but also provide a strong interaction with dye molecules, thereby improving their adsorption performance. In this paper, an oxygen-rich porous polymer, POP-O, containing polar carbonyl and hydroxyl groups, was prepared by Sonogashira-Hagihara cross-coupling polycondensation. The characteristic results show that POP-O exhibits a hierarchical pore structure with a high specific surface area of 619 m2 g-1. The combination of abundant polar functional groups and high porosity endows POP-O with decent dye adsorption performance, and its theoretical maximum adsorption capacity for Rhodamine B (Rh B) is calculated to be 1012 mg g-1.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the role of pride and self-esteem in the relationship between childhood maltreatment and benign envy/malicious envy in Chinese college students. METHODS: One thousand fifty-one Chinese college students completed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, the Authentic and Hubristic Pride-Proneness Scale and the Benign and Malicious Envy Scale, and the significance test of mediating variables was performed. RESULTS: Self-esteem and hubristic pride independently mediated the relationship between childhood maltreatment and benign envy/malicious envy, authentic pride only played a mediating role in the relationship between childhood maltreatment and benign envy. More importantly, the model indicated that childhood maltreatment could influence benign envy/malicious envy through the chain mediating path of 'authentic pride-self-esteem' and 'hubristic pride-self-esteem'. CONCLUSIONS: Authentic pride, hubristic pride and self-esteem might be the possible mechanisms through which childhood maltreatment influences benign envy/malicious envy in adulthood. This study provides insights into the role of pride and self-esteem in the childhood maltreatment-benign (malicious) envy link from the perspective of the learned helplessness theory. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
