RESUMEN

The objective was to assess the diagnostic efficacy of Doppler ultrasound in detecting cervical lymph nodes in patients diagnosed with laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers. Patients undergoing surgery for laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers in the Otolaryngology Department from January 2021 to January 2023 were included. Two groups, with equal numbers, underwent ultrasound examination and intensive CT examination in the experimental and control groups, respectively, along with routine cervical lymph node dissection. A resident with over 6 years of clinical experience in the otolaryngology department performed routine bilateral cervical lymph node palpation. Sensitivity, specificity, and validity were compared among different examination methods. The McNemar test assessed specificity and sensitivity between palpation, color Doppler ultrasonography, and enhanced CT, while the Kappa concordance test evaluated the concordance between the 2 examination methods. Data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 23.0. Palpation showed a diagnostic sensitivity (DS) of 52.83% and specificity of 91.11% for all patients with cervical lymph node metastasis. Ultrasonography demonstrated a DS of 77.78% and specificity of 81.82% in patients with cervical lymph node metastasis, while intensive CT had a DS of 75.86% and specificity of 60.00%. Statistical significance (P < .05) was observed in the sensitivity between palpation and ultrasonography, and between palpation and enhanced CT. The specificity between enhanced CT and ultrasonography (P = .021) and between palpation and enhanced CT scan (P = .003) both showed statistical significance (P < .05). Doppler ultrasound yields diagnostic results highly consistent with pathological diagnoses in patients with laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers. Utilizing Doppler ultrasound can enhance the accuracy of diagnosing these cancers, aiding physicians in devising more suitable treatment plans for patients.

RESUMEN

Examine the effects of focused ultrasound in combination with plasma radiofrequency ablation technology on the physiological stability and postoperative recovery of persistent strain rhinitis. For a control experiment, 90 patients with persistent strain rhinitis were chosen and split into two groups: the control group (CG) and the experimental group (EG). The CG used conventional radiofrequency ablation technology, while the EG used focused ultrasound technology combined with radiofrequency ablation technology to treat persistent strain rhinitis. Between the EG and the CG, compare and contrast the recovery of nasal symptoms, nasal signs, postoperative discomfort, and postoperative respiratory status. One quarter after surgery, there was a substantial difference in physical sign ratings between the EG and the CG, and a particularly significant difference was seen after six months of treatment. One year following surgery, there was a statistical difference between the EG and the CG in the comparison of effective rates at various intervals, with a P value of .013. At 6 months following surgery, the MTT times in the EG and CG for the comparison of nasal function were 12.63 2.65 and 17.68 2.84, respectively, with statistically significant differences. The difference between the EG and the CG in the MTR comparison is statistically significant. In the comparison of NNO values between the EG and the CG after different treatment times. The nitric oxide value of the EG patients decreased over time, with statistical significance one month after surgery and one year after surgery. It is evident from the comparison of various symptom efficacy rates that the EG has a higher treatment effectiveness rate than the CG, and the total treatment effect difference following surgery has statistical significance. Indicators for PONV, PA, directional ability, respiratory recovery, and olfactory recovery performed better in the EG than in the CG, and the differences were statistically significant. Focused ultrasound and plasma radiofrequency ablation technology have a good therapeutic impact in the treatment of persistent strain rhinitis and can significantly reduce MTT. This technology can effectively improve symptoms such as nasal congestion, nasal flow, and headache in patients, and the therapeutic effect is long-lasting. The hospitalization time after treatment is significantly shortened.

RESUMEN

Background: Ergothioneine (EGT) is an antioxidant, which could be detected in human tissues, and human skin cells could utilize EGT and play an anti-oxidative role in keratinocytes. And in this study we are going to elucidate whether EGT could protect the skin from photoaging by Ultraviolet (UV) exposure in mice and its molecule pathway. Methods: Histological analysis was performed for evaluating the skin structure change. Malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels were measured with biological assay for evaluating oxidative and antioxidative ability of skin exposed to UV light. And the level of marker molecules in mouse skin were detected by hydroxyproline (Hyp) assay, immunohistochemical analysis, Western blot, and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). The markers of skin aging and cell death were tested by cell culture and treatment, Western blot and qRT-PCR. Results: EGT decreased the levels of inflammatory factors induced by UV exposure in mouse skin. MDA and SOD activity detection showed that EGT decreased MDA levels, increased SOD activity, and upregulated PI3K/Akt/Nrf2 signals in mouse skin exposed to UV, which further activated Nrf2 in the nucleus and enhanced the expression of Nrf2 target genes. In the cell model, we revealed that EGT could inhibit the increase in senescence-associated ß-galactosidase-positive cells and p16 and γ-H2A.X positive cells induced by etoposide and activate PI3K/Akt/Nrf2 signaling. Moreover, a PI3K inhibitor blocked EGT protection against etoposide-induced cell death. Conclusion: The study showed EGT may play an important protective role against cell damage or death through the PI3K/Akt/Nrf2 signaling pathway in skin.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to examine the potential of USP7 as a target for senolytic therapy and to investigate the molecular mechanism by which its inhibitor selectively induced apoptosis in senescent HDF and enhanced DFU wound healing. METHODS: Clinical samples of DFU were collected to detect the expression of USP7 and aging-related proteins using immunohistochemistry and Western blot. In addition, ß-galactosidase staining, qPCR, flow cytometry, ROS and MMP kits, and Western blot were used to analyze the biological functions of P5091 on senescence, cycle, and apoptosis. RNAseq was employed to further analyze the molecular mechanism of P5091. Finally, the DFU rat model was established to evaluate the effect of P5091 on wound healing. RESULTS: The expression of USP7 and p21 were increased in DFU clinical samples. After treatment with d-glucose (30 mM, 7 days), ß-galactosidase staining was deepened, proliferation rate decreased. USP7 inhibitors (P5091) could reduce the release of SASP factors, activate the production of ROS, and reduce MMP. In addition, it induced apoptosis and selectively clears senescent cells through the p53 signaling pathway. Finally, P5091 can improve diabetic wound healing in rats. CONCLUSION: This study clarified the molecular mechanism of USP7 inhibitor (P5091) selectively inducing apoptosis of high glucose senescent HDF cells. This provides a new senolytics target and experimental basis for promoting DFU wound healing.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) and dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twin pregnancies conceived by assisted reproductive technology (ART) and conceived naturally. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the data on twin pregnancies conceived by ART from January 2015 to January 2022,and compared pregnancy outcomes of MCDA and DCDA twins conceived by ART with those of MCDA and DCDA twins conceived naturally, pregnancy outcomes between MCDA and DCDA twins conceived by ART, and pregnancy outcomes of DCT and TCT pregnancies reduced to DCDA pregnancies with those of DCDA pregnancies conceived naturally. RESULT: MCDA pregnancies conceived by ART accounted for 4.21% of the total pregnancies conceived by ART and 43.81% of the total MCDA pregnancies. DCDA pregnancies conceived by ART accounted for 95.79% of the total pregnancies conceived by ART and 93.26% of the total DCDA pregnancies. Women with MCDA pregnancies conceived by ART had a higher premature delivery rate, lower neonatal weights, a higher placenta previa rate, and a lower twin survival rate than those with MCDA pregnancies conceived naturally (all p < 0.05). Women with DCDA pregnancies conceived naturally had lower rates of preterm birth, higher neonatal weights, and higher twin survival rates than women with DCDA pregnancies conceived by ART and those with DCT and TCT pregnancies reduced to DCDA pregnancies (all p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Our study confirms that the pregnancy outcomes of MCDA pregnancies conceived by ART are worse than those of MCDA pregnancies conceived naturally. Similarly, the pregnancy outcomes of naturally-conceived DCDA pregnancies are better than those of DCDA pregnancies conceived by ART and DCT and TCT pregnancies reduced to DCDA pregnancies.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Few studies have explored the mental health status of parents of children with burns and the moderating effect of social support on them. METHODS: A survey was performed with parents of 112 burn-injured children at a burn center in China. Their perceived stress, anxiety, depression, sleep quality, and social support were measured by the Chinese Perceived Stress Scale, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Perceived Social Support Scale. RESULTS: ➀ The prevalence of anxiety (46.43%), depression (52.67%) and poor sleep quality (43.75%) of parents indicated that they experienced emotional and sleep disorders;➁ The perceived stress was positively correlated with sleep quality, anxiety and depression(P<0.01), and negatively correlated with perceived social support (p<0.05); ➂ Social support had a significant moderating effect on their perceived stress and anxiety, depression, but not on their sleep quality. With high social support, parental perceived stress had a significant positive association on anxiety and depression, while with low perceived social support, parental perceived stress had no significant association on anxiety and depression. CONCLUSION: Parents of burned children had increased stress, obvious symptoms of anxiety and depression, and poor sleep quality. Social support had a significant buffering effect on them under low pressure, and high pressure will hinder the buffering effect of social support on stress. Therefore, the ideal services to improve mental health should be provided for them to face different levels of stress.

RESUMEN

The activated persulfate (PS) process could produce sulfate radical (SO4·-) and rapidly degrade organic pollutants. The application of Fe3O4 as a promising PS activator was limited due to the rapid conversion of Fe2+ to Fe3+ on its surface. Mo4+ on MoS2 surface could be used as a reducing site to convert Fe3+ to Fe2+, but the separation and recovery of MoS2 was complex. In this study, MoS2/Fe3O4 was prepared to accelerate the Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle on Fe3O4 surface and achieved efficient separation of MoS2. The results showed that MoS2/Fe3O4 was more effective for PS activation compared to Fe3O4 or MoS2, with a removal efficiency of 91.8% for 20 mg·L-1 tetracycline (TC) solution under the optimal conditions. Fe2+ and Mo4+ on MoS2/Fe3O4 surface acted as active sites for PS activation with the generation of SO4•-, •OH, •O2-, and 1O2. Mo4+ acted as an electron donor to promote the Fe3+/Fe2+ cycling and thus improved the PS activation capability of MoS2/Fe3O4. The degradation pathways of TC were inferred as hydroxylation, ketylation of dimethylamino group and C-N bond breaking. This study provided a promising activated persulfate-based advanced oxidation process for the efficient degradation of TC by employing MoS2/Fe3O4 as an effective activator.

RESUMEN

Ischemic strokes, prevalence and impactful, underscore the necessity of advanced research models closely resembling human physiology. Our study utilizes nonhuman primates (NHPs) to provide a detailed exploration of ischemic stroke, integrating neuroimaging data, behavioral outcomes, and serum proteomics to elucidate the complex interplay of factors involved in stroke pathophysiology. We observed a consistent pattern in infarct volume, peaking at 1-month postmiddle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and then stabilized. This pattern was strongly correlated to notable changes in motor function and working memory performance. Using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), we detected significant alterations in fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) values, signaling microstructural changes in the brain. These alterations closely correlated with the neurological and cognitive deficits that we observed, highlighting the sensitivity of DTI metrics in stroke assessment. Behaviorally, the monkeys exhibited a reliance on their unaffected limb for compensatory movements, a common response to stroke impairment. This adaptation, along with consistent DTI findings, suggests a significant impact of stroke on motor function and spatial perception. Proteomic analysis through MS/MS functional enrichment identified two distinct groups of proteins with significant changes post-MCAO. Notably, MMP9, THBS1, MB, PFN1, and YWHAZ were identified as potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for ischemic stroke. Our results underscore the complex nature of stroke and advocate for an integrated approach, combining neuroimaging, behavioral studies, and proteomics, for advancing our understanding and treatment of this condition.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: It is generally beneficial and recommended that dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) triplet pregnancies be reduced to monochorionic (MC) twin or singleton pregnancies after assisted reproductive technology (ART). However, some infertile couples still have a firm desire to retain twins. For this reason, the best foetal reduction strategies need to be available for infertile couples and clinicians. Given that data on the elective reduction of DCTA triplet pregnancies to twin pregnancies are scarce, we investigated the outcomes of elective reduction of DCTA triplet pregnancies through the retrospective analysis of previous data. METHOD: Patients with DCTA triplet pregnancies who underwent elective foetal reduction between January 2012 and June 2020 were recruited. A total of 67 eligible patients with DCTA triplet pregnancies were divided into two groups: a DCTA-to-dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twin group (n = 38) and a DCTA-to-monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) twin group (n = 29); the basic clinical data of the two groups were collected for comparison. RESULTS: Compared with the DCDA-to-MCDA twin group, the DCTA-to-DCDA twin group had lower rates of complete miscarriage (7.89% versus 31.03%, p = 0.014), early complete miscarriage (5.26% versus 24.14%, p = 0.034), late preterm birth (25.71% versus 65.00%, p = 0.009) and very low birth weight (0 versus 11.11%, p = 0.025). In addition, the DCTA-to-DCDA twin group had higher rates of full-term delivery (65.71% versus 25.00%, p = 0.005), survival (92.11% versus 68.97%, p = 0.023), and taking the babies home (92.11% versus 68.97%, p = 0.023) than did the DCTA-to-MCDA twin group. In terms of neonatal outcomes, a significantly greater gestational age (38.06 ± 2.39 versus 36.28 ± 2.30, p = 0.009), average birth weight (3020.77 ± 497.33 versus 2401.39 ± 570.48, p < 0.001), weight of twins (2746.47 ± 339.64 versus 2251.56 ± 391.26, p < 0.001), weight of the larger neonate (2832.94 ± 320.58 versus 2376.25 ± 349.95, p < 0.001) and weight of the smaller neonate (2660.00 ± 345.34 versus 2126.88 ± 400.93, p < 0.001) was observed in the DCTA-to-DCDA twin group compared to the DCTA-to-MCDA twin group. CONCLUSION: The DCTA-to-DCDA twin group had better pregnancy and neonatal outcomes than the DCTA-to-MCDA twin group. This reduction approach may be beneficial for patients with dichorionic triamniotic triplet pregnancies who have a strong desire to have DCDA twins.

RESUMEN

Background: Gastroschisis has increased in recent years, however, complicated gastroschisis is associated with higher mortality, as well as higher health care costs and disease burdens from short- and long-term complications. Case introduction: A woman aged 25 years old at 37 + 1 weeks gestation (gravida 2; para 0) was admitted to the hospital because of foetal gastroschisis. Targeted quaternary ultrasound performed at our hospital showed that 34 mm of the abdominal wall was interrupted continuously, an intestinal echo with a range of approximately 88 × 50 mm was seen bulging outwards the local area close to the intestinal wall showed a 34 × 23 m anecho, and the foetus was measuring 2 weeks smaller than expected. After MDT including the maternal-foetal medicine, ultrasound, paediatric surgery, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and anaesthesiology departments, caesarean section was performed at 37 + 2 weeks. A baby boy was delivered, the small intestine, large intestine and stomach were seen outside of the abdomen, the abdominal cavity was excluded from the defect on the right side of the umbilical cord, the mesentery was shortened, and the intestinal tube had obvious oedema After paediatric surgical discussion, silo bag placement and delayed closure was performed, the placement process was smooth. One week following silo placement, the abdominal contents had been fully reduced below the fascia following daily partial reductions of the viscera, and the second stage of the operation was performed under general anaesthesia. The newborn was successfully discharged from the hospital 20 days after the operation and was followed up, with good growth, normal milk intake and smooth bowel movements. Conclusions: The diagnosis and treatment of complicated gastroschisis needs to be carried out under multidisciplinary team treatment. Delivery by cesarean section after 37 weeks is feasible.Immediate postpartum surgery is possible, and the choice of surgical modality is determined by the child's condition, emphasizing that it should be performed without adequate sedation under anaesthesia. A standardized postoperative care pathway appropriate to risk should be developed to optimize nutritional support and antibiotic use, and standardized enteral feeding practices should be sought with long-term follow-up.

RESUMEN

Background: osteoporosis is a skeletal disorder disease features low bone mass and poor bone architecture, which predisposes to increased risk of fracture. Copper death is a newly recognized form of cell death caused by excess copper ions, which presumably involve in various disease. Accordingly, we intended to investigate the molecular clusters related to the cuproptosis in osteoporosis and to construct a predictive model. Methods: we investigated the expression patterns of cuproptosis regulators and immune signatures in osteoporosis based on the GSE56815 dataset. Through analysis of 40 osteoporosis samples, we investigated molecular clustering on the basis of cuproptosis--related genes, together with the associated immune cell infiltration. The WGCNA algorithm was applied to detect cluster-specific differentially expressed genes. Afterwards, the optimum machine model was selected by calculating the performance of the support vector machine model, random forest model, eXtreme Gradient Boosting and generalized linear model. Nomogram, decision curve analysis, calibration curves, and the GSE7158 dataset was utilizing to confirm the prediction efficiency. Results: Differences between osteoporotic and non-osteoporotic controls confirm poorly adjusted copper death-related genes and triggered immune responses. In osteoporosis, two clusters of molecules in connection with copper death proliferation were outlined. The assessed levels of immune infiltration showed prominent heterogeneity between the different clusters. Cluster 2 was characterized by a raised immune score accompanied with relatively high levels of immune infiltration. The functional analysis we performed showed a close relationship between the different immune responses and specific differentially expressed genes in cluster 2. The random forest machine model showed the optimum discriminatory performance due to relatively low residuals and root mean square errors. Finally, a random forest model based on 5 genes was built, showing acceptable performance in an external validation dataset (AUC = 0.750). Calibration curve, Nomogram, and decision curve analyses also evinced fidelity in predicting subtypes of osteoporosis. Conclusion: Our study identifies the role of cuproptosis in OP and essentially illustrates the underlying molecular mechanisms that lead to OP heterogeneity.

RESUMEN

AIM: This study aimed to investigate the causal impact of inflammatory cytokines on Sjogren's Syndrome (SS) and to identify potential biomarkers for SS clinical management using Mendelian Randomization (MR). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Leveraging GWAS summary data of inflammatory cytokines and SS, we executed the first two-sample MR analysis. Genetic variants from prior GWASs associated with circulating inflammatory cytokines served as instrumental variables (IVs). Data regarding cytokines were analyzed using the Olink Target-96 Inflammation panel, synthesizing data from 14,824 participants. GWAS summary statistics for SS were procured from the UK Biobank, focusing on samples of European ancestry. To discern the causal relationship between inflammatory cytokines and SS, several MR methodologies, including inverse variance weighted (IVW) and MR-Egger regression, were applied. RESULTS: After rigorous IV quality control, 91 cytokines were incorporated into the MR analysis. The IVW analysis identified 8 cytokines with a positive association to SS: Axin-1 (OR 2.56, 95% CI 1.07-6.10), T-cell surface glycoprotein CD5 (OR 1.81, 95% CI 1.08-3.02), CUDP1 (OR 1.61, 95% CI 1.00-2.58), CXCL10 (OR 1.92, 95% CI 1.25-2.95), IL-4 (OR 2.18, 95% CI 1.22-3.91), IL-7 (OR 2.35, 95% CI 1.27-4.33), MCP-2 (OR 1.27, 95% CI 1.05-1.54), and TNFRSF9 (OR 1.83, 95% CI 1.03-3.24), suggesting their potential in increasing SS risk. CONCLUSION: Our study conducted through MR, identified various inflammatory cytokines associated with SS risk, validating some previous research results and offering some new potential biomarkers for SS. However, these findings necessitate further research for validation and exploration of their precise role in the onset and progression of SS.

RESUMEN

Microinfarcts are common among the elderly and patients with microinfarcts are more vulnerable to another stroke. However, the impact of microinfarcts on recurrent stroke has yet to be fully understood. The purpose of this study was to explore the negative effects of microinfarcts on recurrent stroke. To achieve this, two-photon laser was used to induce microinfarcts, while photothrombotic stroke was induced on the opposite side. The results showed that microinfarcts led to trained immunity in microglia, which worsened the pro-inflammatory response and ischemic injury in the secondary photothrombotic stroke. Additionally, the study clarified the role of NLRP3 in microglial nuclei, indicating that it interacts with the MLL1 complex through NACHT domain and increases H3K4 methylation, which suggests that NLRP3 is critical in the formation of innate immune memory caused by microinfarcts. Furthermore, the knockout of NLRP3 in microglia alleviated the trained immunity and reduced the harmful effects of microinfarcts on recurrent stroke. This study emphasizes the detrimental effect of trained immunity on recurrent stroke and highlights the critical role of NLRP3 in mediating the formation of this memory, which may offer a potential therapeutic target for mitigating recurrent strokes.

RESUMEN

The vegetation ecosystem in the southern hilly region of China (SHRC) plays a crucial role in the country's carbon reservoir. Clarifying the dynamics of net primary productivity (NPP) in this area and its response to climate factors in the context of climate change is important for national forest ecology, management, and carbon neutrality efforts. This study, based on remote sensing and meteorological data spanning the period 2001 to 2021, aims to unveil the spatiotemporal patterns of vegetation productivity and climate factors in the southern hilly region, explore interannual variation characteristics of vegetation productivity with altitude, and investigate the response characteristics of NPP to various climate factors. The results indicate that from 2001 to 2021, the annual average NPP in the southern hilly region had a significant increasing trend of 2.13 ± 0.78 g m-2 a-1. The trend of NPP varies significantly with altitude. Despite a general substantial upward trend in vegetation NPP, regions at lower elevations exhibit a faster rate of increase, suggesting a diminishing difference in the NPP of different elevation ranges. The overall rise in average temperature has positive implications for the southern hilly region, while the impact of precipitation on vegetation NPP demonstrates noticeable spatial heterogeneity. Regions in which vegetation NPP is significantly negatively correlated with precipitation are mainly concentrated in the southern areas of Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi provinces. In contrast, other regions further away from the southeastern coast tend to exhibit a positive correlation. Over the past two decades, there has been an asymmetry in the diurnal temperature variation in the SHRC, with the nighttime warming rate being 1.8 times that of the daytime warming rate. The positive impact of daytime warming on NPP of vegetation is more pronounced than the impact of nighttime temperature changes. Understanding the spatiotemporal patterns of NPP in the SHRC and the characteristics of its response to climate factors contributes to enhancing our ability to protect and manage vegetation resources amidst the challenges of global climate change.

RESUMEN

Lower limb arterial calcification (LLAC) is associated with an increased risk of mortality and it predicts poor outcomes after endovascular interventions in patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). Detailed histological analysis of human lower artery specimens pinpointed the presence of LLAC in two distinct layers: the intima and the media. Intimal calcification has been assumed to be an atherosclerotic pathology and it is associated with smoking and obesity. It becomes instrumental in lumen stenosis, thereby playing a crucial role in disease progression. On the contrary, medial calcification is a separate process, systematically regulated and linked with age advancement, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. It prominently interacts with vasodilation and arterial stiffness. Given that both types of calcifications frequently co-exist in PAD patients, it is vital to understand their respective mechanisms within the context of PAD. Calcification can be easily identifiable entity on imaging scans. Considering the highly improved abilities of novel imaging technologies in differentiating intimal and medial calcification within the lower limb arteries, this review aimed to describe the distinct histological and imaging features of the two types of LLAC. Additionally, it aims to provide in-depth insight into the risk factors, the effects on hemodynamics, and the clinical implications of LLAC, either occurring in the intimal or medial layers.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Tibial artery calcification (TAC) is correlated with an increased risk of amputation and mortality in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). The association between calcification characteristics and adverse limb events of CLTI. However, it has not been assessed. This study aims to assess the relationship between the characteristics of TAC based on computed tomography angiography (CTA) scans and postoperative outcomes in patients with CLTI undergoing infrapopliteal endovascular therapy. METHODS: This was a retrospective study of patients who underwent infrapopliteal endovascular revascularization for CLTI and had a preoperative CTA scan. Based on CTA, TAC was divided into the following categories: annularity, thickness, continuity and severity. Cox regression models using generalized estimating equations were performed to assess the relationship between calcification characteristics and postoperative outcomes. The outcomes evaluated were the occurrence of all cause mortality (ACM) and unplanned amputation. RESULTS: Among the 148 patients undergoing endovascular, there were 50 (33.8%) patients died and 26 (17.6%) patients underwent unplanned amputation. Annular calcification was more common in the ACM group than in the non-ACM group. No significant differences were found between the two groups with regard to the probability of calcification in the thickness and the continuity (P>0.05). Patients in the unplanned amputation group had significantly annular, thin and continuity calcifications (P<0.05) than those in the non-unplanned amputation group. The presence of annular calcification was an independent predictor of ACM (hazard ratio (HR), 3.186; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.781-5.702; P<0.001) and unplanned amputation (HR, 3.739; 95% CI, 1.707-8.191; P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with CLTI, the occurrence of annular calcification in the tibial artery are related to a greater chance of ACM and unplanned amputation in the postoperative period. The circumferential degree of TAC of the operated limb can be considered as a marker of clinical prognosis in this group of patients.

RESUMEN

Urban surfaces exert profound influences on local wind patterns, turbulence dynamics, and the dispersion of air pollutants, underscoring the critical need for a thorough understanding of these processes in the realms of urban planning, design, construction, and air quality management. The advent of advanced computational capabilities has propelled the computational fluid dynamics model (CFD) into becoming a mature and widely adopted tool to investigate microscale meteorological phenomena in urban settings. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of CFD-based microscale meteorological simulations, offering insights into their applications, influential factors, and challenges. Significant variables such as the aspect ratio of street canyons, building geometries, ambient wind directions, atmospheric boundary layer stabilities, and street tree configurations play crucial roles in influencing microscale physical processes and the dispersion of air pollutants. The integration of CFD with mesoscale meteorological models and cutting-edge machine learning techniques empowers high-resolution, precise simulations of urban meteorology, establishing a robust scientific basis for sustainable urban development, the mitigation of air pollution, and emergency response planning for hazardous substances. Nonetheless, the broader application of CFD in this domain introduces challenges in grid optimization, enhancing integration with mesoscale models, addressing data limitations, and simulating diverse weather conditions.

RESUMEN

Chilo suppressalis is a notorious pest that attacks rice, feeding throughout the entire growth period of rice and posing a serious threat to rice production worldwide. Due to the boring behavior and overlapping generations of C. suppressalis, the pest is difficult to control. Moreover, no rice variety with high resistance to the striped stem borer (SSB) has been found in the available rice germplasm, which also poses a challenge to controlling the SSB. At present, chemical control is widely used in agricultural production to manage the problem, but its effect is limited and it also pollutes the environment. Therefore, developing genetic resistance is the only way to avoid the use of chemical insecticides. This article primarily focuses on the research status of the induced defense of rice against the SSB from the perspective of immunity, in which plant hormones (such as jasmonic acid and ethylene) and mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) play an important role in the immune response of rice to the SSB. The article also reviews progress in using transgenic technology to study the relationship between rice and the SSB as well as exploring the resistance genes. Lastly, the article discusses prospects for future research on rice's resistance to the SSB.

RESUMEN

The production and quality of human life have been impacted by the extreme heat wave events caused by global warming and urbanization. This study analyzed the prevention of air pollution and the strategies of emission reduction based on decision trees (DT), random forests (RF), and extreme random trees (ERT). Additionally, we quantitatively investigated the contribution rate of atmospheric particulate pollutants and greenhouse gases to urban heat wave occurrences by combining numerical models and big data mining technology. This study focuses on changes in the urban environment and climate. The main findings of this study are as follows. The average concentrations of PM2.5 in the northeast of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei in 2020 were 7.4%, 0.9%, and 9.6% lower than those in the corresponding years of 2017, 2018, and 2019, respectively. The carbon emissions in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region showed an increasing trend during the previous 4 years, which was consistent with the spatial distribution of PM2.5. In 2020, there were fewer urban heat waves, which was attributable to a reduction of 75.7% in emissions and an improvement of 24.3% in the prevention and management of air pollution. These results suggest that the government and environmental protection agencies need to pay attention to changes in the urban environment and climate to diminish the negative effects of heatwaves on the health and economic growth of the urban population.

RESUMEN

Background: Dichorionic triamniotic (DCTA) triplet pregnancies are rare in spontaneous pregnancy. The aim was to characterize the incidence and risk factors of DCTA triplet pregnancies after assisted reproductive technology (ART). Methods: A retrospective analysis of 10,289 patients, including 3,429 fresh embryo transfer (ET) cycle and 6,860 frozen ET cycle, was performed from January 2015 to June 2020. The effect of different ART parameters on the incidence of DCTA triplet pregnancies was evaluated by multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: Among all clinical pregnancies after ART, the incidence of DCTA was 1.24%. 1.22% occurred in the fresh ET cycle, while 1.25% occurred in the frozen ET cycle. The number of ET and cycle type has no effect on the occurrence of DCTA triplet pregnancies (p = 0.987; p = 0.056, respectively). There were significant differences in DCTA triplet pregnancies rate among receiving intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and receiving in vitro fertilization (IVF) [1.92% vs. 1.02%, p < 0.001, OR = 0.461, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.315-0.673], blastocyst transfer (BT) versus cleavage-ET (1.66% vs. 0.57%, P < 0.001, OR = 0.329, 95% CI 0.315-0.673), and maternal age ≥ 35 years versus maternal age < 35 years (1.00% vs. 1.30%, P = 0.040, OR = 1.773, 95% CI 1.025-3.066). Based on the regression analysis of cycle type, DCTA triplet pregnancies rate was higher in maternal age < 35 years than in maternal age ≥ 35 years (1.35% vs. 0.97%, P < 0.001, OR = 5.266, 95% CI 2.184-12.701), BT versus cleavage-ET (1.47% vs. 0.94%; P = 0.006, OR = 0.346, 95% CI 0.163-0.735), and receiving ICSI was higher than receiving IVF (3.82% vs. 0.78%, p < 0.001, OR = 0.085, 95% CI 0.039-0.189) in fresh ET cycle. However, DCTA triplet pregnancies rate did not show difference in maternal age, insemination methods, and number of ET, and only BT was found to be associated with a higher DCTA triplet pregnancies rate in the frozen ET cycle (1.73% vs. 0.30%, p < 0.001, OR = 0.179, 95% CI 0.083-0.389). Conclusion: The prevalence of DCTA triplet pregnancies has increased after ART. Maternal age < 35 years, BT, and receiving ICSI are risk factors for DCTA triplet pregnancies, also in fresh ET cycle. However, in frozen ET cycle, BT is an independent risk factor for increased DCTA triplet pregnancies rate.
