AIMS: Dietary fiber (DF) can be separated from food and convenient to take, and has an important role in diabetes prevention, but long-term intervention data are lacking. This study evaluated the long-term benefits of DF supplementation on body composition, glucose-lipid metabolism, and clinical regression in middle-aged and elderly patients with prediabetes. METHODS: A randomized, controlled, open clinical study was conducted. Participants were randomized into a control group receiving health education and an intervention group consuming DF supplements daily before meals (15 g of mixed fiber per serving) for 6 consecutive months based on health education. Follow-up was 1 year with a 6-month cycle. Blood and anthropometric parameters were assessed at baseline and 6 months and 12 months of follow-up. RESULTS: Fifty-four participants were included in the study, 27 in each group. After 6 months, waist circumference, waist-to-hip ratio, fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2 hour plasma glucose (2h PG), and postprandial insulin levels were significantly lower in the intervention group compared to baseline. FPG, 2h PG, glycosylated hemoglobin, triglyceride/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol values and diabetes incidence were lower than in the control group. After 12 months, blood glucose and diabetes incidence remained lower in the intervention group. CONCLUSIONS: DF supplementation can reduce the degree of central obesity, the levels of FPG and 2h PG, and the incidence of diabetes in middle-aged and older patients with prediabetes.

This study established a type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) mouse model and assessed the influence of Potato resistant starch 3 (PRS3) intervention. The results showed that PRS3 significantly improved glucose tolerance and insulin resistance, alleviated abnormal lipid metabolism and oxidative stress, inhibited inflammatory factor expression in the liver and pancreas, and reduced pathological damage to the pancreas and liver. Moreover, PRS3 increased fecal short-chain fatty acid content and altered the gut microbiota. At the phylum level, PRS3 increased the relative abundance of Firmicutes and Verrucomicrobiota and decreased the relative abundance of Desulfobacterota, Proteobacteria, Bacteroides, and Actinobacteriota. At the species level, PRS3 increased the relative abundance of Faecalibaculum_rodentium, uncultured_bacterium_g_Dubosiella, uncultured_bacterium_g__Olsenella, and Akkermansiamuciniphila and reduced the relative abundance of unclassified_g_Lactobacillus, unclassified_g_Cornebacterium, Lactobacillus_murinus, and Lachnospiraceae_bacterium_10_1. This study provides a theoretical basis for elucidating the glucose-lowering mechanisms of PRS3.

Electro-oxidation (EO) technology demonstrates significant potential in wastewater treatment. However, the high energy consumption has become a pivotal constraint hindering its large-scale implementation. Herein, we design an EO and 4-electron oxygen reduction reaction coupled system (EO-4eORR) to replace the traditional EO and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) coupled system (EO-HER). The theoretical cathodic potential of the electrolytic reactor is tuned from 0 V (vs. RHE) in HER to 1.23 V (vs. RHE) in 4eORR, which greatly decreases the required operation voltage of the reactor. Moreover, we demonstrate that convection can improve the mass transfer of oxygen and organic pollutants in the reaction system, leading to low cathodic polarization and high pollutant removal rate. Compared with traditional EO-HER system, the energy consumption of the EO-4eORR system under air aeration for 95 % total organic carbon (TOC) removal is greatly decreased to 2.61 kWh/kgTOC (only consider the electrolyzer energy consumption), which is superior to previously reported EO-based water treatment systems. The reported results in this study offer a new technical mode for development of highly efficient and sustainable EO-based treatment systems to remove organic pollutants in waste water.

OBJECTIVES: Postdoctoral researchers in Chinese universities commonly face a high risk of mental health issues, such as depression, yet the underlying causes and mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to explore the influence of childhood socioeconomic status (SES) on depression among postdoctoral researchers and the mediating roles of current subjective SES and perceived stress in this process. METHODS: An online survey was conducted among postdoctoral researchers at a university. The survey included a general information questionnaire, the Childhood Socioeconomic Status Scale, the Subjective Socioeconomic Status Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale, and the Patient Health Questionnaire. A total of 505 valid responses were collected. Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the data, and the PROCESS macro was employed for chain mediation analysis. RESULTS: Childhood SES was significantly positively correlated with current subjective SES (P<0.05) and significantly negatively correlated with postdoctoral tenure, perceived stress, and depression (all P<0.05). Current subjective SES was significantly negatively correlated with perceived stress and depression (both P<0.05), while perceived stress was significantly positively correlated with depression (P<0.05). The chain mediation effect of childhood SES → current subjective SES → perceived stress → depression was significant (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Childhood socioeconomic status can influence depression among postdoctoral researchers through the mediating roles of current subjective socioeconomic status and perceived stress. These findings provide a target for the prevention and intervention of depression in postdoctoral populations and offer a reference for the development of mental health promotion strategies for young university faculty.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to explore the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) expression profiles in serum of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS). The role of these lncRNAs in this complex autoimmune situation needs to be evaluated. METHODS: We used high-throughput whole-transcriptome sequencing to generate sequencing data from three patients with AS and three normal controls (NC). Then, we performed bioinformatics analyses to identify the functional and biological processes associated with differentially expressed lncRNAs (DElncRNAs). We confirmed the validity of our RNA-seq data by assessing the expression of eight lncRNAs via quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in 20 AS and 20 NC samples. We measured the correlation between the expression levels of lncRNAs and patient clinical index values using the Spearman correlation test. RESULTS: We identified 72 significantly upregulated and 73 significantly downregulated lncRNAs in AS patients compared to NC. qRT-PCR was performed to validate the expression of selected DElncRNAs; the results demonstrated that the expression levels of MALAT1:24, NBR2:9, lnc-DLK1-35:13, lnc-LARP1-1:1, lnc-AIPL1-1:7, and lnc-SLC12A7-1:16 were consistent with the sequencing analysis results. Enrichment analysis showed that DElncRNAs mainly participated in the immune and inflammatory responses pathways, such as regulation of protein ubiquitination, major histocompatibility complex class I-mediated antigen processing and presentation, MAPkinase activation, and interleukin-17 signaling pathways. In addition, a competing endogenous RNA network was constructed to determine the interaction among the lncRNAs, microRNAs, and mRNAs based on the confirmed lncRNAs (MALAT1:24 and NBR2:9). We further found the expression of MALAT1:24 and NBR2:9 to be positively correlated with disease severity. CONCLUSION: Taken together, our study presents a comprehensive overview of lncRNAs in the serum of AS patients, thereby contributing novel perspectives on the underlying pathogenic mechanisms of this condition. In addition, our study predicted MALAT1 has the potential to be deeply involved in the pathogenesis of AS.

The fermentation process can be affected when the starter culture enters the viable but nonculturable (VBNC) state. Therefore, it is of interest to investigate how VBNC cells change physiologically. Lacticaseibacillus (L.) paracasei Zhang is both a probiotic and a starter strain. This study aimed to investigate the metabolomic differences between VBNC and recovered L. paracasei Zhang cells. First, L. paracasei Zhang was induced to enter the VBNC state by keeping the cells in a liquid de Man-Rogosa-Sharpe (MRS) medium at 4 °C for 220 days. Flow cytometry was used to sort the induced VBNC cells, and three different types of culture media (MRS medium, skim milk with 1% yeast extract, and skim milk) were used for cell resuscitation. Cell growth responses in the three types of recovery media suggested that the liquid MRS medium was the most effective in reversing the VBNC state in L. paracasei Zhang. Metabolomics analysis revealed 25 differential metabolites from five main metabolite classes (amino acid, carbohydrate, lipid, vitamin, and purine and pyrimidine). The levels of L-cysteine, L-alanine, L-lysine, and L-arginine notably increased in the revived cells, while cellulose, alginose, and guanine significantly decreased. This study confirmed that VBNC cells had an altered physiology.

Purpose: This study was conducted to reexamine the question of whether children treated for anisometropic amblyopia have contour integration deficits. To do so, we used psychophysical methods that require global contour processing while minimizing the influence of low-level deficits: visibility, shape perception, and positional uncertainty. Methods: Thirteen children with anisometropic amblyopia (age: 10.1 ± 1.8 years) and thirteen visually normal children (age: 10.8 ± 2.0 years) participated in this study. The stimuli were closed figures made up of Gabor patches either in noise or on a blank field. The contrast thresholds to detect a circular contour on a blank field, as well as the thresholds of aspect ratio and contour element number to discriminate a circular or elliptical contour in noise, were measured at Gabor spatial frequencies of 1.5, 3, and 6 cpd for amblyopic eyes (AEs), fellow eyes (FEs), and normal control eyes. Visual acuities and contrast sensitivity functions for AEs and FEs and the Randot stereoacuity were measured before testing. Results: The AEs showed contrast deficits and degraded shape perception compared to the FEs at higher spatial frequencies (6 cpd). When the influence of abnormal contrast sensitivity and shape perception were minimized, the AEs showed contour integration deficits at spatial frequencies 3 and 6 cpd. These deficits were not related to basic losses in contrast sensitivity and acuity, stereoacuity, and visual crowding. Besides, no significant difference was found between the fellow eyes of the amblyopic children and the normal control eyes in the performance of contour integration. Conclusion: After eliminating or compensating for the low-level deficits, children treated for anisometropic amblyopia still show contour integration deficits, primarily at higher spatial frequencies, which might reflect the deficits in global processing caused by amblyopia. Contour integration deficits are likely independent of spatial vision deficits. Refractive correction and/or occlusion therapies may not be sufficient to fully restore contour integration deficits, which indicates the need for the development of clinical treatments to recover these deficits.

Electrocatalytic reduction of ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid copper (CuEDTA), a typical refractory heavy metal complexation pollutant, is an environmental benign method that operates at mild condition. Unfortunately, the selective reduction of CuEDTA is still a big challenge in cathodic process. In this work, we report a MoS2 nanosheet/graphite felt (GF) cathode, which achieves an average Faraday efficiency of 29.6% and specific removal rate (SRR) of 0.042 mol/cm2/h for CuEDTA at - 0.65 V vs SCE (saturated calomel electrode), both of which are much higher than those of the commonly reported electrooxidation technology-based removal systems. Moreover, a proof-of-concept CuEDTA/Zn battery with Zn anode and MoS2/GF cathode is demonstrated, which has bifunctions of simultaneous CuEDTA removal and energy output. This is one of the pioneer studies on the electrocatalytic reduction of heavy metal complex and CuEDTA/Zn battery, which brings new insights in developing efficient electrocatalytic reduction system for pollution control and energy output.

Triamine-based HBPI membranes are known for high gas separation selectivity and physical stability, but their permeabilities are still very low. In this study, we utilized a tetramine monomer called TPDA (N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(4-aminophenyl)-1,4-benzenediamine) as a crosslinking center and incorporated an additional diamine comonomer called DAM (2,4,6-trimethyl-1,3-diaminobenzene) to enhance gas separation performance, especially gas permeability. The findings demonstrated that the resultant 6FDA-DAM/TPDA membranes based on tetramine TPDA exhibited a greater amount of free volume compared to the triamine-based HBPI membranes, resulting in significantly higher gas permeabilities. Furthermore, the higher concentration of DAM component led to the generation of more fractional free volumes (FFV). Consequently, the gas permeabilities of the 6FDA-DAM/TPDA membranes increased with an increase in DAM content, with a minimal compromise on selectivity. The enhanced gas permeabilities of the 6FDA-DAM/TPDA membranes enabled them to minimize the footprint required for membrane installations in real-world applications. Moreover, the 6FDA-DAM/TPDA membranes exhibited remarkable durability against physical aging and plasticization, thanks to the incorporation of a hyperbranched network structure.

PURPOSE: This randomized controlled trial aimed to study the effects of Yijinjing plus Elastic Band Resistance exercise on intrahepatic lipid (IHL), body fat distribution, glucolipid metabolism and biomarkers of inflammation in middle-aged and older people with pre-diabetes mellitus (PDM). PARTICIPANTS AGESND METHODS: 34 PDM participants (mean age, 62.62 ± 4.71 years; body mass index [BMI], 25.98 ± 2.44 kg/m2) were randomly assigned to the exercise group (n = 17) or control group (n = 17). The exercise group performed moderate-intensity Yijinjing and Elastic Band Resistance training 5 times per week for 6 months. The control group maintained their previous lifestyle. We measured body composition (body weight and body fat distribution), IHL, plasma glucose, lipid and the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), inflammatory cytokines at baseline and 6 months. RESULTS: Compared with baseline, exercise significantly reduced IHL (reduction of 1.91 % ± 2.61 % vs an increase of 0.38 % ± 1.85 % for controls; P = 0.007), BMI (reduction of 1.38 ± 0.88 kg/m2 vs an increase of 0.24 ± 1.02 kg/m2 for controls; P = 0.001), upper limb fat mass, thigh fat mass and whole body fat mass. Fasting glucose, HOMA-IR, plasma total cholesterol (TC), and triglyceride (TG) were decreased in the exercise group (P < 0.05). There were no effects of exercise on liver enzyme levels and inflammatory cytokines. The decrease in IHL was positively correlated with the decreases in BMI, body fat mass and HOMA-IR. CONCLUSION: Six months of Yijinjing and resistance exercise significantly reduced hepatic lipids and body fat mass in middle-aged and older people with PDM. These effects were accompanied by weight loss, improved glycolipid metabolism and insulin resistance.

The 6FDA-based network PI has attracted significant attention for gas separation. A facile strategy to tailor the micropore structure within the network PI membrane prepared by the in situ crosslinking method is extremely significant for achieving an advanced gas separation performance. In this work, the 4,4'-diamino-2,2'-biphenyldicarboxylic acid (DCB) or 3,5-diaminobenzoic acid (DABA) comonomer was incorporated into the 6FDA-TAPA network polyimide (PI) precursor via copolymerization. The molar content and the type of carboxylic-functionalized diamine were varied in order to easily tune the resulting network PI precursor structure. Then, these network PIs containing carboxyl groups underwent further decarboxylation crosslinking during the following heat treatment. Properties involving thermal stabilities, solubility, d-spacing, microporosity, and mechanical properties were investigated. Due to the decarboxylation crosslinking, the d-spacing and the BET surface areas of the thermally treated membranes were increased. Moreover, the content of DCB (or DABA) played a key role in determining the overall gas separation performance of the thermally treated membranes. For instance, after the heating treatment at 450 °C, 6FDA-DCB:TAPA (3:2) showed a large increment of about ~532% for CO2 gas permeability (~266.6 Barrer) coupled with a decent CO2/N2 selectivity~23.6. This study demonstrates that incorporating the carboxyl-containing functional unit into the PI backbone to induce decarboxylation offers a practical approach with which to tailor the micropore structure and corresponding gas transport properties of 6FDA-based network PIs prepared by the in situ crosslinking method.

BACKGROUND: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic progressive autoimmune disease characterized by spinal and sacroiliac arthritis, but its pathogenesis and genetic basis are largely unclear. METHODS: We randomly selected three serum samples each from an AS and a normal control (NC) group for high-throughput sequencing followed by using edgeR to find differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes, Reactome pathway analyses, and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis were used to comprehensively analyze the possible functions and pathways involved with these DEGs. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks were constructed using the STRING database and Cytoscape. The modules and hub genes of these DEGs were identified using MCODE and CytoHubba plugins. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to validate the expression levels of candidate genes in serum samples from AS patients and healthy controls. RESULTS: We successfully identified 100 significant DEGs in serum. When we compared them with the NC group, 49 of these genes were upregulated in AS patients and 51 were downregulated. GO function and pathway enrichment analysis indicated that these DEGs were mainly enriched in several signaling pathways associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress, including protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum, unfolded protein response, and ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis. We also constructed a PPI network and identified the highly connected top 10 hub genes. The expression levels of the candidate hub genes PPARG, MDM2, DNA2, STUB1, UBTF, and SLC25A37 were then validated by RT-qPCR analysis. Finally, receiver operating characteristic curve analysis suggested that PPARG and MDM2 may be the potential biomarkers of AS. CONCLUSIONS: These findings may help to further elucidate the pathogenesis of AS and provide valuable potential gene biomarkers or targets for the diagnosis and treatment of AS.

Background: Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic diseases and continues to be a leading cause of death worldwide. The NLRP3 inflammasome has been shown to exert detrimental effects on diabetic models. However, evidence linking NLRP3 inflammasome and pre-diabetes has been scarcely explored. Herein, we aimed to determine whether the NLRP3 inflammasome correlates with insulin resistance and liver pathology in a cohort of pre-diabetic subjects. Methods: 50 pre-diabetic subjects were randomly assigned to a Pre-diabetes Control (DC, n=25) and a Pre-diabetes exercise (DEx, n=25) group. 25 Normal subjects (NC) were selected as controls. The DEx group performed a 6-month combined Yijingjing and resistance training intervention, while DC and NC group remained daily routines. Clinical metabolic parameters were determined with an automatic biochemistry analyzer; inflammatory cytokines were quantified by the ELISA assay; the protein expressions of NLRP3 inflammasome components in PBMCs were evaluated by Western Blot. Results: The insulin resistance, liver injury and NLRP3 inflammasome activity were higher in pre-diabetic individuals than in normal control group. However, 6-month exercise intervention counteracted this trend, significantly improved insulin sensitivity, reduced liver injury and inhibited the overactivation of NLRP3 inflammasome in pre-diabetic subjects. Moreover, positive correlations between insulin resistance, liver pathology and NLRP3 inflammasome were also found. Conclusions: Our study suggests that exercise training is an effective strategy to alleviate insulin resistance and liver injury in elderly pre-diabetic subjects which is probably associated with the inhibition of NLRP3 inflammasome activity.

OBJECTIVES: This work aimed to study the effects of Yi Jin Jing plus Elastic Band Resistance exercise on bone mineral density at all parts of the body and bone metabolism index levels in postmenopausal women. DESIGN: Randomized controlled trial. METHODS: Forty postmenopausal women were randomly assigned equally to the exercise or to the control group. The control group maintained their lifestyle behaviors unaltered, whereas the exercise group received  Yi Jin Jing plus Elastic Band Resistance exercise. The primary outcome was overall bone mineral density at each part, and the secondary one was bone metabolism indicator levels and bone mineral density on both sides. RESULTS: The results after six months showed increased bone mineral density at all parts of the body in the exercise group (spine, P = 0.002; thighs, lumbar, and whole body, P < 0.05) and decreased bone mineral density in the control group (trunk, pelvis, and spine, P < 0.01). In particular, the decrease and increase were greater on the non-preferred (left) side than on the right side. As for bone metabolism indexes, ß-Crosslaps levels reduced (P = 0.016) and a significant increase in 1,25-(OH)2-D3 (P < 0.001) can be observed in the exercise group. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggested that Yi Jin Jing plus Elastic Band Resistance exercise could delay the overall decrease of bone mineral density in postmenopausal women, especially on the non-preferred side. It also increased bone formation metabolite levels and inhibited bone resorption metabolite levels.

In this study, we aimed to establish an innovative and efficient preparation method of potato resistant starch (PRS). To achieve this, we prepared type 3 resistant starch (RS3) from native potato starch (PS) using an ultrasonic method combined with autoclave gelatinization and optimized by the response surface method to study the structure and properties of potato RS3 (PRS3) and its effect on the quality of steamed bread. Under optimal treatment conditions, the PRS3 content increased from 7.5% to 15.9%. Compared with PS, the B-type crystal structure of PRS3 was destroyed, and the content of hydroxyl groups was increased, but no new chemical groups were introduced. PRS3 had a rougher surface and a lower crystallinity, gelatinization temperature, viscosity, setback value, and breakdown value. The low content (5%) of PRS3 had a stable viscosity and was easily degraded by bacteria, which can improve the quality of steamed bread to a certain extent. When the PRS3 content was over 10%, it competed with the gluten protein to absorb water, which reduced the contents of ß-turn and α-helix in the dough, increased the contents of ß-fold, and weakened the structure of the gluten network. It also decreased the specific volume and elasticity of the steamed bread and increased the spreading rate, hardness, and chewiness. Steamed bread prepared with a flour mixture containing 5% PRS3 was similar to the presidential acceptance of control flour. In this study, a new sustainable and efficient PRS3 preparation method was established, which has certain guiding significance for the processing of Functional steamed bread with high-resistant starch.

Introduction: This study investigated the effect of Yijinjing combined with elastic band exercise on muscle mass and muscle function in patients with prediabetes. Methods: This study was a randomized controlled trial designed in parallel (Chinese Clinical Trial Registry: ChiCTR2000039049). Participants with prediabetes (n = 47) were randomly divided into control (n = 21, 63.5 ± 4.7 years,16 females) and exercise (n = 26, 62.0 ± 5.0 years, 20 females) groups. The former maintained their original lifestyle, and the latter received Yijinjing combined with elastic band exercise five times a week for 6 months. All the outcome measures were assessed immediately at baseline, after 3- and 6-month intervention. Results: After 6-month of the exercise, the body weight, body mass index, leg fat mass, gynoid fat mass, and total body fat mass in exercise group were significantly decreased compared with those at baseline (p < 0.05). Compared with those at baseline, total lean mass decreased at 3 and 6 months in both groups. The total muscle mass loss in the exercise group was always less than that in control group at all time periods, but the difference was not statistically significant. Handgrip strength, gait speed, reaction time, leg power, eye-closed and single-legged standing, and sit-and-reach were significantly improved for the exercise group at 3 and 6 months (p < 0.05). Gait speed and reaction time between both groups at 3 and 6 months were significant different (p < 0.05), and leg power at 6 months (p < 0.05). Compared with baseline, the reaction time of control group at six months was significantly improved (p < 0.05), and no other significant changes were observed. Compared with those at baseline, fasting plasma glucose, 2-h post-meal plasma glucose, fasting insulin, total cholesterol, and insulin resistance index in exercise group gradually decreased, and growth hormone was gradually increased with significance at 6 months (p < 0.05). 25-hydroxyvitamin D gradually and significantly increased in both groups at 3 and 6 months (p < 0.05). But two groups' testosterone levels weren't significant change. Conclusion: Yijinjing combined with elastic band exercise can substantially reduce the body weight and body fat content of middle-aged and elderly patients with Prediabetes, improve muscle function and growth hormone secretion, and delay muscle mass reduction and diabetes development. BACKGROUND: Facial paralysis (FP) is a common symptom after stroke, which influences the quality of life and prognosis of patients. Recently, peripheral magnetic stimulation (PMS) shows potential effects on peripheral and central nervous system damage. However, the effect of PMS on FP after stroke is still unclear. METHODS: In this study, we applied PMS on the facial nerve of nine stroke patients with FP. At the same time, laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) was used to explore the facial skin blood flow (SkBF) in 19 healthy subjects and nine stroke patients with FP before and after the PMS intervention. The whole face was divided into 14 regions to compare the SkBF in different sub-areas. RESULTS: In baseline SkBF, we found that there were no significant differences in the SkBF between the left and right faces in the healthy subjects. However, there was a significant difference in the SkBF between the affected and unaffected faces in Region 7 (Chin area, p = 0.046). In the following five minutes after the PMS intervention (Pre_0-5 min), the SkBF increased in Region 5 (p = 0.014) and Region 7 (p = 0.046) and there was an increasing trend in Region 3 (p = 0.088) and Region 6 (p = 0.069). In the five to ten minutes after the intervention (Post_6-10 min), the SkBF increased in Region 5 (p = 0.009), Region 6 (p = 0.021) and Region 7 (p = 0.023) and there was an increasing trend in Region 3 (p = 0.080) and left and right whole face (p = 0.051). CONCLUSIONS: These pilot results indicate that PMS intervention could increase facial skin blood flow in stroke patients with FP. A further randomized controlled trial can be performed to explore its possible clinical efficacy.

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common heterogeneous endocrine disease among women of childbearing age, characterized by androgen excess and ovarian dysfunction. Aerobic exercise is an important solution used to manage PCOS, due to its multiple benefits. Yi Jin Jing is an important component of traditional Chinese exercise (TCE), based on the root of traditional Chinese medicine theory (TCM), which focuses on keeping the body as a whole in a harmonious state. However, to date there is no literature on the benign effects of Yi Jin Jing on PCOS. The primary purpose of this protocol is to assess the effectiveness of aerobic exercise versus Yi Jin Jing, on the management of ovarian function in young overweight/obese women with PCOS. METHODS: The study will conduct a controlled randomized, superiority trial with three-arm parallel groups, recruiting 90 women diagnosed with PCOS, ages between 18 and 35 years, with a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 23 kg/m2. Women will be randomly assigned to either control group (combined oral contraceptives) or one of the intervention groups (Yi Jin Jing group or aerobic exercise group) with an allocation rate of 1:1:1. After randomization, the intervention will be conducted within a 12-week period. The primary outcome would be anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) level; the secondary outcomes would be biochemical profiles, ovarian volume, antral follicle count, BMI, menstrual frequency, and homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). Outcome measures would be collected during baseline and end of treatment. Reporting of the study will follow the Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials (SPIRIT) statement. DISCUSSION: This proposed study will be the first randomized clinical trial to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of aerobic exercise versus Yi Jin Jing on the management of ovarian function in young overweight/obese women with PCOS. The results may provide a new evidence-based management strategy for young women with PCOS. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry ChiCTR1900022385 . Registered on 9 April 2019.

Background: Pain is a common complication after stroke with a high incidence and mortality rate. Many studies in the field of pain after stroke have been published in various journals. However, bibliometric analysis in the domain of pain after stroke is still lacking. This study aimed to deliver a visual analysis to analyze the global trends in research on the comorbidity of pain after stroke in the last 12 years. Methods: The publications from the Web of Science (WoS) in the last 12 years (from 2010 to 2021) were collected and retrieved. CiteSpace software was used to analyze the relationship of publication year with countries, institutions, journals, authors, references, and keywords. Results: A total of 322 publications were included in the analysis. A continuous but unstable growth in the number of articles published on pain after stroke was observed over the last 12 years. The Peoples' R China (65), Chang Gung University (10), and Topic in Stroke Rehabilitation (16) were the country, institution, and journal with the highest number of publications, respectively. Analysis of keywords showed that shoulder pain after stroke and central post-stroke pain were the research development trends and focus in this research field. Conclusion: This study provides a visual analysis method for the trend and frontiers of pain research after stroke. In the future, large sample, randomized controlled trials are needed to identify the potential treatments and pathophysiology for pain after stroke.
