RESUMEN

Hyperspectral imaging technology can record the spatial and spectral information of the targets and significantly enhance the levels of military reconnaissance and target detection. It has scientific importance to mimic "homochromatic and homospectral"camouflage materials of green vegetation. It is a big challenge to exquisitely simulate the spectral of green vegetation in visible and near-infrared windows because of the slight differences between the artificial green dyes and vegetation, the instability of chlorophylls. Herein, a novel kind of biomimetic material of green vegetation was designed through the incorporation of chlorophylls into the crystal lattices of single-crystalline anhydrous guanine microplates for the first time. The synthesized chlorophylls-doped anhydrous guanine crystals exhibit high reflectance intensity and depolarization effect, thus can be applied as biomimetic camouflage materials that mimic green vegetation in the visible and near-infrared regions. The factors influencing the formation of dye-doped organic crystals under mild conditions were thoroughly investigated and the characterizations using electron microscopies clearly confirm the occlusion of chlorophylls into the crystal lattices of guanine crystals. The thermal stability experiments clearly indicate that the chlorophylls-doped guanine crystals possess long-term stability at high temperatures. This study provides a new strategy for the synthesis of multifunctional materials comprised of organic crystals.

RESUMEN

Hot air drying (HAD) is an extensive method used on oysters and it causes the most intuitive change, a color change. However, the mechanism of color change remains unclear. This study showed that oysters underwent browning during the HAD process. The colorimetric parameter L* decreased while a* and b* increased, all of which were well described by the first-order color kinetic model. Mechanistically, the HDA process induced the oxidative browning of phenols and the generation of Maillard reaction products (5-hydroxymethylfurfural and hydrophilic pyrrole). Meanwhile, the HAD process caused lipid oxidation, leading to the reduction of phosphatidylethanolamine and the generation of reactive carbonyl compounds (aldehydes and α-dicarbonyl compounds). Moreover, the accumulation of hydrophobic pyrroles, a lipid-induced Maillard-like reaction product, was observed. These results suggest that, in addition to phenolic oxidation, sugar- and amino acid-mediated non-enzymatic browning reactions, lipid-mediated Maillard-like reactions play important roles in oyster darkening during the HAD process.

RESUMEN

Biogenic purine crystals can function in vision as light scatters, mirrors, and multilayer reflectors and produce structural colors or depolarization for camouflage. Xanthine crystals form irregular multifocal mirrors in the median ocellus of Archaeognatha. It is important to broaden the study of crystallization strategies to obtain organic crystals with purine rings in the laboratory. In this work, a facile one-step synthesis route to fabricate bio-inspired xanthine crystals is reported for the first time. The obtained rhomboidal xanthine nanoplates have similar morphology and size to biogenic xanthine crystals. Their length and thickness are about 2-4 µm and 50 nm, respectively. Lattice parameters, crystal structure, formation mechanism and optical properties of synthetic single-crystalline xanthine nanoplates were investigated in detail in this work. The obtained xanthine nanoplate crystals are proposed to be anhydrous xanthine with monoclinic symmetry, and the xanthine nanoplates mainly expose the (100) plane. It is proposed that the anhydrous xanthine nanoplates are formed via an amorphous xanthine intermediate precursor. The synthetic anhydrous xanthine nanoplates exhibit excellent optical properties, including high diffuse reflectivity, strong depolarization and pearlescent luster. This work provides a new design to synthesize bio-inspired organic molecular crystals with excellent optical properties.

RESUMEN

Direct electrolysis of seawater to generate hydrogen is an attractive approach for storing renewable energy. However, direct seawater splitting suffers from low current density and limited operating stability, which severely hinders its industrialization. Herein, a promising strategy is reported to obtain a nano needle-like array catalyst-CDs-Mn-CoxP on nickel foam, in which the Mn─O─C bond tightly binds Mn, Carbon dots (CDs), and CoxP together. The coordination engineering of CDs and Mn not only effectively regulates the electronic structure of CoxP, but also endows the as-prepared catalyst with selectivity and marked long-term stability at ampere-level current density. Low overpotentials of 208 and 447 mV are required to achieve 1000 mA cm-2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and Oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in simulated seawater, respectively. Cell potentials of 1.78 and 1.86 V are needed to reach 500 and 1000 mA cm-2 in alkaline seawater along with excellent durability for 350 h. DFT studies have verified that the introduction of Mn and CDs effectively shifts the d-band center of Co-3d toward higher energy, thereby strengthening the adsorption of intermediates and enhancing the catalytic activity. This study sheds light on the development of highly effective and stable catalysts for large-scale seawater electrolysis.

RESUMEN

Photodriven chiral catalysis is the combination of photocatalysis and chiral catalysis and is considered one of the cleanest and most efficient methods for the synthesis of chiral compounds or drugs. Furthermore, due to the potential metal contamination associated with most metal-based catalysts, metal-free chiral photocatalysts are ideal candidates. In this work, we demonstrate that metal-free chiral carbon dots (CDs) exhibit size-dependent enantioselective photocatalytic activity. Using serine as the raw material, chiral CDs with well-defined structures and average sizes of 2.22, 3.01, 3.70, 4.77, and 7.21 nm were synthesized using the electrochemical method. These chiral CDs possess size-dependent band gaps and exhibit photoresponsive enantioselective catalytic activity toward the oxidation of dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA). Under light-assisted conditions, chiral CDs (L72, 500 µg/mL) exhibit high selectivity (selectivity factor: 2.07) and maintain a certain level of catalytic activity (1.34 µM/min) even at a low temperature of 5 °C. The high catalytic activity of the chiral CDs arises from their photoelectrons reducing O2 to generate O2-, as the active oxygen species for DOPA oxidation. The high enantioselectivity of the chiral CDs is attributed to their differential adsorption capabilities toward DOPA enantiomers. This study provides a new approach for designing metal-free chiral photocatalysts with high enantioselectivity.

RESUMEN

Objectives: To accurately predict the risk of ischemic stroke, we established a radiomics model of carotid atherosclerotic plaque-based high-resolution vessel wall magnetic resonance imaging (HR-VWMRI) and combined it with clinical indicators. Materials and methods: In total, 127 patients were finally enrolled and randomly divided into training and test cohorts. HR-VWMRI three-dimensional T1-weighted imaging (T1WI) and contrast-enhanced T1WI (T1CE) were collected. A traditional model was built by recording and calculating radiographic features of the carotid plaques and patients' clinical indicators. After extracting radiomics features from T1WI and T1CE images, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm was used to select the optimal features and construct the radiomics_T1WI model and the radiomics_T1CE model. The traditional and radiomics features were used to build combined models. The performance of all the models predicting ischemic stroke was evaluated in the training and test cohorts, respectively. Results: Body mass index (BMI) and intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) were independently related to ischemic stroke and were used to build the traditional model, which achieved an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.79 versus 0.78 in the training and test cohorts, respectively. The AUC value of the radiomics_T1WI model is the lowest in the training and test cohorts, but the prediction performance is significantly improved when the model combines IPH and BMI. The AUC value of the combined_T1WI model was 0.78 and 0.81 in the training and test cohorts, respectively. In addition, in the training and test cohorts, the radiomics_T1CE model based on HR-VWMRI combined clinical characteristics, which is the combined_T1CE model, had the highest AUC value of 0.84 and 0.82, respectively. Conclusion: Compared with other models, the radiomics_T1CE model based on HR-VWMRI combined clinical characteristics, which is a combined_T1CE model, can accurately predict the risk of ischemic stroke.

RESUMEN

Due to the advantages of good aqueous dispersion and biocompatibility, carbon dots (CDs) are promising candidates for a wide range of applications in the biological field. Notably, CDs derived from biosafe organic precursors will contribute both new types of CDs and new bioactivities. Herein, metformin (MET), a first-line drug for the treatment of type II diabetes, was selected as an organic precursor to fabricate a new type of CDs, namely, semi-carbonized MET (MCDs). These MCDs derived from MET possess a completely new antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (SA) and Escherichia coli (E. coli) compared with that of MET and achieve complete antibacterial activity at 200 µg mL-1. The broad-spectrum antibacterial mechanism of MCDs involves two aspects. For the Gram-positive bacteria SA, MCDs mainly affect the transport of nutrients by adsorbing onto the surface of bacteria, thereby inhibiting bacterial growth. For the Gram-negative bacteria E. coli, MCDs can easily pass through their thin cell walls and stimulate the bacteria to produce excess ROS, eventually leading to the death of the bacteria. This work may open a new way for the future design and development of CDs prepared from biosafe organic precursors with specific functions.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Ultrasonography (US), as a routine examination for evaluating coronary artery lesions (CAL) in children with Kawasaki disease (KD), has strong subjectivity and limitations. Non-contrast enhanced coronary magnetic resonance angiography (NCE-CMRA) is sensitive and reliable in displaying the segments of coronary arteries (CA). PURPOSE: To evaluate the CA using NCE-CMRA, to compare NCE-CMRA with US, and to assess the correlation between KD-related inflammatory factors and the occurrence of CAL. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULATION: 61 children with KD who had undergone NCE-CMRA. Ultimately, 52 cases were included (32 males and 20 females), with an average of 5.9 ± 0.3 years old. FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: 3-T, 3D balanced turbo field echo sequence. ASSESSMENT: NCE-CMRA and US coronary visualization rates were compared in 41 children who were imaged with both techniques. Inflammatory factors were compared between CAL and normal coronary artery (NCA) subgroups. In the CAL group, correlations of these inflammatory factors with CAL parameters were investigated. STATISTICAL TESTS: Comparison between groups was performed by the two independent samples t-test; the comparison of enumeration data between groups was performed by chi-square test. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to determine the sensitivity of inflammatory factors for detecting CAL. The correlation between CAL and inflammatory indexes was analyzed by multiple linear regression. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: NCE-CMRA visualized significantly more segments than US (76% vs. 46%). There were significant differences in PLT, CRP, ESR, and D-dimer between the CAL and NCA groups. ROC curve analysis showed that the sensitivities of these four indicators in diagnosing CAL were 39%, 44%, 72%, and 61%, respectively, at cut-off points of 562.5 × 109 /L, 48.93 mg/L, 45.5 mm/h, and 0.5 mg/L, respectively. DATA CONCLUSION: The combination of NCE-CMRA and inflammatory factors is helpful for the early diagnosis and disease severity of CAL in children with KD. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 3 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 2.

RESUMEN

Fusarium root rot is usually classified as an extremely destructive soilborne disease. From 2020 to 2021, Fusarium root rot was observed in production areas and seriously affected the yield and quality of Scutellaria baicalensis in Shanxi Province, China. Based on morphological characteristics and combined analysis of the internal transcribed spacer region of ribosomal DNA and translation elongation factor 1-alpha sequences, 68 Fusarium isolates obtained in this work were identified as F. oxysporum (52.94%), F. acuminatum (20.59%), F. solani (16.17%), F. proliferatum (5.88%), F. incarnatum (2.94%), and F. brachygibbosum (1.47%). In the pathogenicity tests, all Fusarium isolates could infect S. baicalensis roots, presenting different pathogenic ability. Among these isolates, F. oxysporum was found to have the highest virulence on S. baicalensis roots, followed by F. acuminatum, F. solani, F. proliferatum, F. brachygibbosum, and F. incarnatum. According to fungicide sensitivity tests, Fusarium isolates were more sensitive to fludioxonil and difenoconazole, followed by carbendazim, thiophanate-methyl, and hymexazol. In brief, this is the first report of Fusarium species (F. oxysporum, F. acuminatum, F. solani, F. proliferatum, F. incarnatum, and F. brachygibbosum) as causal agents of root rot of S. baicalensis in Shanxi Province, China. The fungicide sensitivity results will be helpful for formulating management strategies of S. baicalensis root rot.

RESUMEN

It is highly desirable to design and construct chemical catalysts with high activity and specificity as the alternatives of natural enzymes for industrial application. Chiral carbon dots (CDs), possessing both the intrinsic enzyme-like activity and specific recognition ability, are one of good candidates for enzyme-like catalysts. However, their catalytic activity is far from that of natural enzymes and needs to be enhanced. In this work, the modulation of the chiral structure and catalytic activity of chiral CDs with intrinsic oxidase-like activity was implemented by manganese (Mn) doping. Under the light condition, chiral CDs (l-Ser-CDs and d-Ser-CDs) derived from chiral serine (Ser) show weak catalytic activity and low selectivity toward the oxidation of L type of dopamine (l-DOPA), whereas the Mn functionalized chiral CDs (l-Mn-CDs or d-Mn-CDs) exhibit 6.9 times higher in catalytic activity and 2.9 times in selectivity ratio (SR) than Ser-CDs. Mn-CDs involve two-path catalytic process, in which the photogenerated electrons could reduce O2 to O2- as the active species and the holes would oxidize DOPA directly. Moreover, doping of Mn enables the CDs to generate more O2-. Besides, l-Mn-CDs have higher catalytic activity than that of d-Mn-CDs (+54.2 %), and the chiral Mn-CDs have stronger selective adsorption capacity towards chiral DOPA than Ser-CDs. Our work provides a new method for designing and preparing novel chiral artificial enzymes.

RESUMEN

Small-sized fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) are gaining increasing attention in the field of biomedical applications. The environmental and biological compatibility of positively charged CDs has been extensively investigated; however, the potential cytotoxicity caused by negatively and particularly neutrally charged small CDs has been significantly overlooked. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive investigation into the cellular membrane disruption effect of weakly negatively charged 3-nm CDs using a combination of various biophysical techniques. Our findings demonstrate that even at a low concentration of 0.5 µg mL-1, these CDs induce significant perturbations on the cellular membrane, resulting in increased membrane permeability due to asymmetric disruption of the bilayer structure. Furthermore, CDs exhibit distinct mechanisms at different concentrations, including prompt insertion into the bilayer at low concentrations (<20 µg mL-1) and a synergistic effect after a threshold time at high concentrations (e.g., 25-200 µg mL-1). Moreover, these CDs possess specific antibacterial properties against Acinetobacter baumannii (with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 50 µg mL-1) while showing minimal hemolytic or cytotoxic effects on mammalian cells. This study provides comprehensive insights into the biophysical aspects of cellular membrane toxicity caused by small weakly negatively charged CDs and contributes to assessing their potential biomedical applications.

RESUMEN

The development of high performance electrocatalysts for effective hydrogen production is urgently needed. Herein, three hybrid catalysts formed by WS2 and Co-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) derivatives are constructed, in which the small amount of W in the MOFs derivatives acts as a bridge to provide the charge transfer channel and enhance the stability. In addition, the effects of the surface charge distribution on the catalytic performance are fully investigated. Due to the optimal interfacial electron coupling and rearrangement as well as its unique porous morphology, WS2 @W-CoPx exhibits superior bifunctional performance in alkaline media with low overpotentials in hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) (62 mV at 10 mA cm-2 ) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) (278 mV at 100 mA cm-2 ). For overall water splitting (OWS), WS2 @W-CoPx only requires a cell voltage of 1.78 V at 50 mA cm-2 and maintains good stability within 72 h. Density functional theory calculations verify that the combination of W-CoPx with WS2 can effectively enhance the activity of OER and HER with weakened OH (or O) adsorption and enhanced H atom adsorption. This work provides a feasible idea for the design and practical application of WS2 or phosphide-based catalysts in OWS.

RESUMEN

As a detoxification and metabolism organ, the liver plays a vital role in human health. However, an excessive consumption of drugs and toxins, exposure to pathogenic viruses, and unhealthy living habits can lead to liver damage, which may even develop into liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. Epimedium brevicornum Maxim. is a traditional Chinese medicine and dietary supplement in which the flavonoid icariin is a main functional component. Although the protective mechanisms of icariin and its metabolites against liver injury are not yet comprehensively understood, an increasing number of studies have confirmed their liver-protective and anticancer effects. Indeed, icaritin, one of the metabolites of icariin, is currently utilized as an active component of an anti-cancer drug. This paper presents a review of the molecular mechanisms through which icariin and its metabolites actively protect against the occurrence and development of liver injury, and, thus, provides a comprehensive reference for further research and their application in liver protection.

RESUMEN

Mulberry leaf protein hydrolysates (HMP), and their in vitro gastrointestinal digests (GHMP), have shown favorable chemical antioxidant activities. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential protective effects of HMP and GHMP against 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH)-induced oxidative stress in human erythrocytes. The inhibition rate of hemolysis, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) level, the concentration of malondialdehyde (MDA), the reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSH), and the enzymatic activities of total superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and cellular glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) were evaluated as the biomarkers of oxidative status in human erythrocytes. The results showed that HMP and GHMP effectively inhibit the occurrence of erythrocyte hemolysis in the range of 0.025-1.0 mg/mL, and the inhibition rates of HMP and GHMP reached 92% and 90% at concentrations of 0.4 mg/mL and 1.0 mg/mL, respectively. HMP and GHMP reduced the AAPH-induced oxidative hemolysis damage via suppressing the generation of ROS by inhibiting the formation of MDA, maintaining the balance of GSH/GSSG, and preserving the activities of the antioxidant enzymes, including SOD, GSH-Px, and CAT. Our findings revealed that both HMP and GHMP could be used as natural antioxidants, and have the potential for further application in the development of functional foods.

RESUMEN

Background: Stigma and discrimination towards people with mental health conditions by their communities are common worldwide. This can result in a range of negative outcomes for affected persons, including poor access to health care. However, evidence is still patchy from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) on affordable, community-based interventions to reduce mental health-related stigma and to improve access to mental health care. Methods: This study aims to conduct a feasibility (proof-of-principle) pilot study that involves developing, implementing and evaluating a community-based, multi-component, public awareness-raising intervention (titled Indigo-Local), designed to reduce stigma and discrimination and to increase referrals of people with mental health conditions for assessment and treatment. It is being piloted in five LMICs - China, Ethiopia, India, Nepal and Tunisia - and includes several key components: a stakeholder group workshop; a stepped training programme (using a 'Training of Trainers' approach) of community health workers (or similar cadres of workers) and service users that includes repeated supervision and booster sessions; awareness-raising activities in the community; and a media campaign. Social contact and service user involvement are instrumental to all components. The intervention is being evaluated through a mixed-methods pre-post study design that involves quantitative assessment of stigma outcomes measuring knowledge, attitudes and (discriminatory) behaviour; quantitative evaluation of mental health service utilization rates (where feasible in sites); qualitative exploration of the potential effectiveness and impact of the Indigo-Local intervention; a process evaluation; implementation evaluation; and an evaluation of implementation costs. Discussion: The outcome of this study will be contextually adapted, evidence-based interventions to reduce mental health-related stigma in local communities in five LMICs to achieve improved access to healthcare. We will have replicable models of how to involve people with lived experience as an integral part of the intervention and will produce knowledge of how intervention content and implementation strategies vary across settings. The interventions and their delivery will be refined to be acceptable, feasible and ready for larger-scale implementation and evaluation. This study thereby has the potential to make an important contribution to the evidence base on what works to reduce mental health-related stigma and discrimination and improve access to health care.

RESUMEN

Alcoholic gastric ulcer is a common acute gastric injury disease. The drugs currently used in clinical practice not only cannot fundamentally treat gastric injury, but also have serious side effects. There is an urgent demand for the discovery of a mild drug to treat alcoholic gastric ulcers. Herein, the green carbon dots derived from charred Atractylodes macrocephala (CAM-CDs) were acquired and have been proven to be safe and effective in alleviating alcoholic gastric ulcers at an inhibition rate up to 60%. CAM-CDs can markedly attenuate the gastric mucosa damage such as mucosal defect, bleeding and inflammatory cell infiltration by histopathological examination. Serum and tissue inflammatory cytokine measurements, as well as immunohistochemistry results, indicate that its mechanism of gastric mucosal protection may involve the reduction of IL-1ß and TNF-α by regulating inflammatory signaling pathway of the NF-κB/NLRP3 axis, as well as elevation of IL-10 levels. CAM-CDs also can reduce oxidative stress markers (MDA), increase PGE2 and mucin secretion (MUC5AC), and it simultaneously exerts slight inhibition of hydrogen potassium ATPase and pepsin activity to protect gastric mucosa, as well as increases the microbial diversity and regulates species composition of gut microbiota in rats with gastric ulcer. Our work provides a new perspective on utilizing carbon-based nanomaterials in the development of new mild drugs.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Myocardial extracellular volume (ECV) fraction is an important imaging biomarker in clinical decision-making. CT-ECV is a potential alternative to MRI for ECV quantification. We conducted a meta-analysis to comprehensively assess the reliability of CT for ECV quantification with MRI as a reference. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library for relevant articles published since the establishment of the database in July 2022. The articles comparing CT-ECV with MRI as a reference were included. Meta-analytic methods were applied to determine the pooled weighted bias, limits of agreement (LOA), and correlation coefficient (r) between CT-ECV and MRI-ECV. RESULTS: Seventeen studies with a total of 459 patients and 2231 myocardial segments were included. The pooled mean difference (MD), LOA, and r for ECV quantification at the per-patient level was (0.07%; 95% LOA: - 0.42 to 0.55%) and 0.89 (95% CI: 0.86-0.91), respectively, while on the per-segment level was (0.44%; 95% LOA: 0.16-0.72%) and 0.84 (95% CI: 0.82-0.85), respectively. The pooled r from studies with the ECViodine method for ECV quantification was significantly higher compared to those with the ECVsub method (0.94 (95% CI: 0.91-0.96) vs. 0.84 (95% CI: 0.80-0.88), respectively, p = 0.03). The pooled r from septal segments was significantly higher than those from non-septal segments (0.88 (95% CI: 0.86-0.90) vs. 0.76 (95% CI: 0.71-0.90), respectively, p = 0.009). CONCLUSION: CT showed a good agreement and excellent correlation with MRI for ECV quantification and is a potentially attractive alternative to MRI. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: The myocardial extracellular volume fraction can be acquired using a CT scan, which is not only a viable alternative to myocardial extracellular volume fraction derived from MRI but is also less time-consuming and costly for patients. KEY POINTS: • Noninvasive CT-ECV is a viable alternative to MRI-ECV for ECV quantification. • CT-ECV using the ECViodine method showed more accurate myocardial ECV quantification than ECVsub. • Septal myocardial segments showed lower measurement variability than non-septal segments for the ECV quantification.

RESUMEN

High temperatures applied in the production of plant-based meat analogs (PBMA) lead to the occurrence of Maillard reactions, in which harmful compounds Nε-(carboxymethyl)lysine (CML), Nε-(carboxyethyl)lysine (CEL) and acrylamide are formed. However, little research has focused on these compounds in PBMA. In this study, the contents of CML, CEL and acrylamide in 15 commercial-sold PBMA were determined by an ultra-high performance liquid chromatograph coupled with a triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer (UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS). Nutrients (protein, amino acids, fatty acids and sugars) which are related to the formation of these compounds were also studied. The results showed that CML, CEL and acrylamide contents were in the range of 16.46-47.61 mg/kg, 25.21-86.23 mg/kg and 31.81-186.70 µg/kg, respectively. Proteins account for 24.03-53.18% of PBMA. Except for Met + Cys, which is the limiting amino acid of most PBMA, all other indispensable amino acids met the requirements for adults. Besides, PBMA had more n-6 fatty acids than n-3 fatty acids. A correlation analysis showed that proteins and the profiles of amino acid and fatty acid had little influence on CML but significant influence on CEL and acrylamide. The results of the present study can be used as a reference to produce PBMA with higher amounts of nutrients and lower amounts of CML, CEL and acrylamide.

RESUMEN

Carbon dots (CDs) with good water solubility and biocompatibility have become a research hotspot in the nano-enzyme and biomedical field. However, the problems of low catalytic activity and ambiguous catalytic site of CDs as nanozymes still need to be addressed. In this work, CDs loaded with Cu single atoms are obtained through pyrolysis, and the coordination structure and surface functional groups are regulated by adjusting the pyrolysis temperature. CDs obtained at 300 °C (named Cu-CDs-300) have the most carboxyl content and Cu is coordinated in the form of CuN2 O2 , which can better decompose H2 O2 to produce free radical and is beneficial to catalyze the oxidation of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB). The vmax is 6.56*10-7  m s-1 , 6.56 times higher than that of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). Moreover, Cu-CDs-300 can effectively lead to CT26 apoptosis by generating much free radicals. This work demonstrates the synergistic effect of oxygen-containing functional groups and metal coordination structures on peroxide-like activity of CDs and provides new ideas for the design of clear active structure and high efficiency peroxide-like single atom CDs catalyst.

RESUMEN

Biomimetic synthesis of guanine crystals has been focused on in the last years. However, multi-functional guanine crystals occluded with fluorescent molecules have not been realized in the laboratory. Here, the controllable synthesis of guanine crystal microplatelets with fluorescence and pearlescence was achieved for the first time by incorporating Nile red (NR) or fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) molecules into guanine crystals. The synthesized fluorescent guanine crystals are pure ß-phase anhydrous guanine single crystals. Aqueous suspensions with NR- and FITC-doped guanine crystals exhibit distinct pearlescence. The fluorescence intensities of NR and FITC were greatly enhanced after being doped into guanine crystals due to the inhibition of aggregation-caused quenching. Moreover, films composed of fluorescent guanine microplatelets exhibit high diffuse reflection intensity (70 %). This work provides a strategy to synthesize multifunctional materials composed of organic crystals occluded with dyes.
