RESUMEN
Meningiomas are tumors that arise from arachnoid cells attached to both the pia mater and the inner portion of the arachnoid. They are common intracranial tumors, representing 12-25% of intracranial neoplasms. Intracranial meningiomas can spread extracranially to involve surrounding structures, including the ear and temporal bone. Ectopic meningiomas, described as primary meningiomas with no intracranial involvement, are rare. We describe a case of a primary external auditory canal meningioma with no evidence of intracranial involvement. We present pre-operative imaging findings proving no intracranial involvement prior to surgical intervention. A literature review of this uncommon clinical entity is presented and a discussion regarding its prognosis and treatment is reviewed.

Carcinoid tumor metastatic to the orbit is a rare occurrence. We report such a case in a patient with a carcinoid metastasis that was found in the medial rectus muscle. The diagnosis was established via a transnasal endoscopic approach. We also discuss the treatment of metastatic orbital carcinoid in the hope that we will increase awareness of the utility of transnasal endoscopy in facilitating both the diagnosis and treatment of posteromedial orbital pathology.

The treatment of early stage laryngeal cancer is radiation therapy in the majority of cases, with surgery reserved for salvage therapy. Some institutions advocate partial laryngectomy procedures as primary treatment due to improved voice preservation with equivalent local control. The partial laryngectomy includes several variations of laryngeal resection to incorporate differing lesion locations and their patterns of oncologic spread. This serves as a challenge to the evaluating radiologist as post-surgical and post-radiation therapy changes distort the anatomy, and may not reflect recurrent or persistent disease. This article discusses the types of partial laryngectomy, as well as the indications and possible complications of the procedures. Additionally, the appearance of expected changes is outlined in contrast to recurrent or persistent disease.

The September 2001 COM. A 51 year old man with refractory seizures presented with a recent seizure while at work but no other neurologic deficit. Imaging studies demonstrated a solid and cystic lesion of the right temporal lobe. Microscopic and immunohistochemical studies demonstrated an atypical ganglioglioma due to the presence of neurofibrillary tangles within the neoplastic ganglion cell component. This is the fifth case reported in the literature. Neoplastic ganglion cells and neurofibrillary tangles are discussed both separately and as integral components of this rare tumor.
