RESUMEN

Solar-driven thermochemical hydrogen (STCH) production represents a sustainable approach for converting solar energy into hydrogen (H2) as a clean fuel. This technology serves as a crucial feedstock for synthetic fuel production, aligning with the principles of sustainable energy. The efficiency of the conversion process relies on the meticulous tuning of the properties of active materials, mostly commonly perovskite and fluorite oxides. This Review conducts a comprehensive review encompassing experimental, computational, and thermodynamic and kinetic property studies, primarily assessing the utilization of perovskite oxides in two-step thermochemical reactions and identifying essential attributes for future research endeavors. Furthermore, this Review delves into the application of machine learning (ML) and density functional theory (DFT) for predicting and classifying the thermochemical properties of perovskite materials. Through the integration of experimental investigations, computational modeling, and ML methodologies, this Review aspires to expedite the screening and optimization of perovskite oxides, thus enhancing the efficiency of STCH processes. The overarching objective is to propel the advancement and practical integration of STCH systems, contributing significantly to the realization of a sustainable and carbon-neutral energy landscape.

Electrochemical actuators (ECAs) with low voltage actuation and large deformation ranges generally require electrode materials with high ion kinetic energy transport, high charge storage, and excellent electrochemical-mechanical properties. However, the fabrication of such actuators remains a major challenge. In the present work, hybrid electroactive films were fabricated by self-assembling one-dimensional functionalized cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) with two-dimensional MXene (Ti3C2Tx). The obtained ECA actuators fabricated by carboxymethylated cellulose nanofibrils (consisting of -CH2COO-surface groups) with Ti3C2Tx integrate excellent curvature (0.1041 mm-1), mechanical strength (21.68 MPa), a bending strain of 0.50 %, and a good actuation displacement of 9.3 mm at a low voltage range of -0.6 to 0.3 V. This may be attributed to the enlarged layer spacing (15.34 Å), which makes the embedding and transport of H+ easier, and excellent adaptivity of mechanical properties achieved by molecular-scaled strong hydrogen bonding, leading to better actuation performance. This study provides a potential research direction for the preparation of ECAs with large actuation deformation.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Using data from UK Biobank, SAIL Biobank, and FinnGen, we conducted an unbiased, population-scale study to: 1) Investigate how 155 endocrine, nutritional, metabolic, and digestive system disorders are associated with AD and PD risk prior to their diagnosis, considering known genetic influences; 2) Assess plasma biomarkers' specificity for AD or PD in individuals with these conditions; 3) Develop a multi-modal classification model integrating genetics, proteomics, and clinical data relevant to conditions affecting the gut-brain axis. Our findings show that certain disorders elevate AD and PD risk before AD and PD diagnosis including: insulin and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, noninfective gastro-enteritis and colitis, functional intestinal disorders, and bacterial intestinal infections, among others. Polygenic risk scores revealed lower genetic predisposition to AD and PD in individuals with co-occurring disorders in the study categories, underscoring the importance of regulating the gut-brain axis to potentially prevent or delay the onset of neurodegenerative diseases. The proteomic profile of AD/PD cases was influenced by comorbid endocrine, nutritional, metabolic, and digestive systems conditions. Importantly, we developed multi-modal prediction models integrating clinical, genetic, proteomic and demographic data, the combination of which performs better than any single paradigm approach in disease classification. This work aims to illuminate the intricate interplay between various physiological factors involved in the gut-brain axis and the development of AD and PD, providing a multifactorial systemic understanding that goes beyond traditional approaches.

Neurons rely on mRNA transport and local translation to facilitate rapid protein synthesis in processes far from the cell body. These processes allow precise spatial and temporal control of translation and are mediated by RNA binding proteins (RBPs), including those known to be associated with neurodegenerative diseases. Here, we use proteomics, transcriptomics, and microscopy to investigate the impact of RBP knockdown on mRNA transport and local translation in iPSC-derived neurons. We find thousands of transcripts enriched in neurites and that many of these transcripts are locally translated, possibly due to the shorter length of transcripts in neurites. Loss of frontotemporal dementia/amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (FTD/ALS)-associated RBPs TDP-43 and hnRNPA1 lead to distinct alterations in the neuritic proteome and transcriptome. TDP-43 knockdown (KD) leads to increased neuritic mRNA and translation. In contrast, hnRNPA1 leads to increased neuritic mRNA, but not translation, and more moderate effects on local mRNA profiles, possibly due to compensation by hnRNPA3. These results highlight the crucial role of FTD/ALS-associated RBPs in mRNA transport and local translation in neurons and the importance of these processes in neuron health and disease.

Ginseng, with various pharmacological activities, has received increasing attention to improve cardiovascular health (CVH). Therefore, this meta-analysis synthesized the effect of ginseng consumption on biomarkers of CVH in adults. A systematic search was performed in the databases of PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and the Cochrane Library through July 24, 2023 to screen out English-language randomized controlled trials (RCTs) evaluating the effects of ginseng consumption on body composition, blood pressure, vascular stiffness, lipid metabolism, glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, inflammatory cytokines, and adipocytokines in adults. The weighted mean difference (WMD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to evaluate the overall effect size, and STATA 12.0 was used for comprehensive analysis. Forty-five studies were included in the meta-analysis. Ginseng consumption significantly reduced systolic blood pressure (SBP) (WMD = -2.57 mmHg, 95% CI = -4.99 to -0.14, p = 0.038), total cholesterol (TC) (WMD = -4.40 mg/dL, 95% CI = -8.67 to -0.132, p = 0.043), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (WMD = -2.81 mg/dL, 95% CI = -4.89 to -0.72, p = 0.008), C-reactive protein (CRP) (WMD = -0.41 mg/L, 95% CI = -0.73 to -0.10, p = 0.010), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) (WMD = -2.82 pg./mL, 95% CI = -4.31 to -1.32, p < 0.001). Subgroup analyses suggested that supplementation with ginseng for less than 12 weeks significantly reduced SBP, but 12 weeks or more improved TC and CRP. Ginseng consumption on SBP, TC, and CRP seemed to be more effective on unhealthy participants. The meta-analysis showed that ginseng consumption might have the potential to improve SBP, TC, LDL-C, CRP, and IL-6. These findings suggest that ginseng is a potential candidate for the maintenance of CVH. However, our results had high heterogeneity. Future high-quality studies are needed to firmly establish the clinical efficacy of ginseng consumption.

BACKGROUND: Hepatoid adenocarcinoma of the stomach (HAS) is a rare subtype of gastric cancer (GC) with a poor prognosis. Furthermore, the current pathological staging system for HAS does not distinguish it from that for common gastric cancer (CGC). METHODS: The clinicopathological data of 251 patients with primary HAS who underwent radical surgery at 14 centers in China from April 2004 to December 2019 and 5082 patients with primary CGC who underwent radical surgery at 2 centers during the same period were retrospectively analyzed. A modified staging system was established based on the differences in survival. RESULTS: After 1:4 propensity score matching (PSM), 228 patients with HAS and 828 patients with CGC were analyzed. Kaplan-Meier (K-M) analysis showed patients with HAS had a poorer prognosis compared with CGC. Multivariate analysis identified pN stage, CEA level, and perineural invasion (PNI) as independent prognostic factors in patients with HAS. A modified pT (mpT) staging was derived using recursive partitioning analysis (RPA) incorporating PNI and pT staging. The modified pathological staging system (mpTNM) integrated the mpT and the 8th American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) pN definitions. Multivariate analysis showed that mpTNM stage outperformed other pathological variables as independent predictors of OS and RFS in patients with HAS. The mpTNM staging system exhibited significantly higher predictive accuracy for 3-year OS in patients with HAS (0.707, 95% CI: 0.650-0.763) compared to that of the 8th AJCC staging system (0.667, 95% CI: 0.610-0.723, P<0.05). Analysis using the Akaike information criterion favored the mpTNM staging system over the 8th AJCC staging system (824.69 vs. 835.94) regarding the goodness of fit. The mpTNM stages showed improved homogeneity in survival prediction (likelihood ratio: 41.51 vs. 27.10). Comparatively the mpTNM staging system outperformed the 8th AJCC staging system in survival prediction, supported by improvements in the net reclassification index (NRI: 47.7%) and integrated discrimination improvement (IDI: 0.083, P<0.05). Time-dependent ROC curve showed that the mpTNM staging system consistently outperformed the 8th AJCC staging system with increasing observation time. CONCLUSION: The mpTNM staging system exhibited superior postoperative prognostic accuracy for patients with HAS compared to the 8th AJCC staging system.

Aims/Background Gastric cancer is a common and life-threatening cancer, which predisposes patients to certain psychological problems. Implementation of both personalized nutrition and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) have shown unique advantages in the treatment of cancer patients. This study aims to evaluate the effects of this comprehensive therapy on psychological resilience, quality of life and side effects of chemotherapy in patients with advanced gastric cancer (AGC), yielding findings that can inform the development of holistic and effective treatment methods. Methods The clinical data of 240 AGC patients who underwent chemotherapy in the Fourth Hospital of Hebei Medical University from February 2021 to February 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. After excluding 15 patients who did not meet the inclusion criteria, 225 patients were included in the study. According to the management methods, the patients were divided into three groups: group A receiving routine management (n = 76), group B receiving routine management plus personalized nutrition (n = 75), and group C receiving routine management, personalized nutrition and ACT (n = 74). The psychological resilience, quality of life and side effects of chemotherapy were evaluated in the three groups. Results There was no difference in the Connor-Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC) scores and quality of life questionnaire-core 30 (QLQ-C30) scores among the three groups at admission (p > 0.05). After chemotherapy, compared with the group C, the CD-RISC scores of group A and group B were significantly lower (p < 0.001), and the scores of physical function, cancer-related symptoms and overall health in group A and group B were significantly lower (p < 0.001). The incidence of side effects of chemotherapy in group C was 25.68%, which was significantly lower than that in group A and group B (p < 0.05); there was no statistical difference in this regard between group A and group B (p > 0.05), and the same parameter was significantly different between group A and group C (p < 0.05). Conclusion Personalized nutrition management plus ACT has a significant favorable effect on improving psychological resilience, alleviating the side effects of chemotherapy, and enhancing the quality of life in patients with AGC undergoing chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are critical factors that limit the effectiveness of gastric cancer (GC) therapy. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are confirmed as important regulators of many cancers. However, their role in regulating CSC-like properties of GC remains largely unknown. Our study aimed to investigate the role of circUBA2 in CSC maintenance and the underlying mechanisms. METHODS: We identified circUBA2 as an upregulated gene using circRNA microarray analysis. qRT-PCR was used to examine the circUBA2 levels in normal and GC tissues. In vitro and in vivo functional assays were performed to validate the role of circUBA2 in proliferation, migration, metastasis and CSC-like properties of GC cell. The relationship between circUBA2, miR-144-5p and STC1 was characterised using bioinformatics analysis, a dual fluorescence reporter system, FISH, and RIP assays. RESULTS: CircUBA2 expression was significantly increased in GC tissues, and patients with GC with high circUBA2 expression had a poor prognosis. CircUBA2 enhances CSC-like properties of GC, thereby promoting cell proliferation, migration, and metastasis. Mechanistically, circUBA2 promoted GC malignancy and CSC-like properties by acting as a sponge for miR-144-5p to upregulate STC1 expression and further activate the IL-6/JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. More importantly, the ability of circUBA2 to enhance CSC-like properties was inhibited by tocilizumab, a humanised Interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R) antibody. Thus, circUBA2 knockdown and tocilizumab synergistically inhibited CSC-like properties. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated the critical role of circUBA2 in regulating CSC-like properties in GC. CircUBA2 may be a promising prognostic biomarker for GC.

Over the past decade, the rapid development of artificial intelligence has propelled the transition of autonomous vehicles from laboratories to real-world applications. However, autonomous vehicles are a long way from fully integrating into most people's lives. Previous studies indicate that the word-of-mouth effect is often used by consumers to determine the quality of innovative technologies. Word-of-mouth recommendation can not only increase the income of enterprises by attracting new customers, but also greatly reduce the promotion and publicity expenses of enterprises. Through the word-of-mouth effect, the intention to recommend can contribute to the growth of the autonomous driving market. Therefore, current research explores the mechanisms among the perceived risk of privacy safety, perceived defect, perceived behavioral control, intention to use, and intention to recommend through path analysis. Our findings, based on 433 online questionnaires, indicate that the perceived risk of privacy safety, perceived defects, and perceived behavioral control influence the intention to recommend. Notably, perceived risk of privacy safety and perceived defect directly affects the intention to recommend and also correlates with perceived behavioral control. These findings provide some empirical evidence for the recommendation of autonomous vehicles and the expansion of consumer groups.

Introduction: Obesity is a major risk factor associated with multiple pathological conditions including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Endothelial dysfunction is an early predictor of obesity. However, little is known regarding how early endothelial changes trigger obesity. In the present work we report a novel endothelial-mediated mechanism essential for regulation of metabolic homeostasis, driven by c-Myc. Methods: We used conditional knockout (EC-Myc KO) and overexpression (EC-Myc OE) mouse models to investigate the endothelial-specific role of c-Myc in metabolic homeostasis during aging and high-fat diet exposure. Body weight and metabolic parameters were collected over time and tissue samples collected at endpoint for biochemical, pathology and RNA-sequencing analysis. Animals exposed to high-fat diet were also evaluated for cardiac dysfunction. Results: In the present study we demonstrate that EC-Myc KO triggers endothelial dysfunction, which precedes progressive increase in body weight during aging, under normal dietary conditions. At endpoint, EC-Myc KO animals showed significant increase in white adipose tissue mass relative to control littermates, which was associated with sex-specific changes in whole body metabolism and increase in systemic leptin. Overexpression of endothelial c-Myc attenuated diet-induced obesity and visceral fat accumulation and prevented the development of glucose intolerance and cardiac dysfunction. Transcriptome analysis of skeletal muscle suggests that the protective effects promoted by endothelial c-Myc overexpression are associated with the expression of genes known to increase weight loss, energy expenditure and glucose tolerance. Conclusion: Our results show a novel important role for endothelial c-Myc in regulating metabolic homeostasis and suggests its potential targeting in preventing obesity and associated complications such as diabetes type-2 and cardiovascular dysfunction.

Effectors are considered to be virulence factors secreted by pathogens, which play an important role during host-pathogen interactions. In this study, the candidate effector Pt9226 was cloned from genomic DNA of Puccinia triticina (Pt) pathotype THTT, and there were six exons and five introns in the 877 bp sequence, with the corresponding open reading frame of 447 bp in length, encoding a protein of 148 amino acids. There was only one polymorphic locus of I142V among the six Pt pathotypes analyzed. Bioinformatics analysis showed that Pt9226 had 96.46% homology with the hypothetical putative protein PTTG_26361 (OAV96349.1) in the Pt pathotype BBBD. RT-qPCR analyses showed that the expression of Pt9226 was induced after Pt inoculation, with a peak at 36 hpi, which was 20 times higher than the initial expression at 0 hpi, and another high expression was observed at 96 hpi. No secretory function was detected for the Pt9226-predicted signal peptide. The subcellular localization of Pt9226Δsp-GFP was found to be multiple, localized in the tobacco leaves. Pt9226 could inhibit programmed cell death (PCD) induced by BAX/INF1 in tobacco as well as DC3000-induced PCD in wheat. The transient expression of Pt9226 in 26 wheat near-isogenic lines (NILs) by a bacterial type III secretion system of Pseudomonas fluorescens EtHAn suppressed callose accumulation triggered by Ethan in wheat near-isogenic lines TcLr15, TcLr25, and TcLr30, and it also suppressed the ROS accumulation in TcLr15. RT-qPCR analysis showed that the expression of genes coded for pathogenesis-related protein TaPR1, TaPR2, and thaumatin-like protein TaTLP1, were suppressed, while the expression of PtEF-1α was induced, with 1.6 times at 72 h post inoculation, and TaSOD was induced only at 24 and 48 h compared with the control, when the Pt pathotype THTT was inoculated on a transient expression of Pt9226 in wheat TcLr15. Combining all above, Pt9226 acts as a virulence effector in the interaction between the Pt pathotype THTT and wheat.

Why lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was associated with a decreased atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk but an increased hemorrhagic stroke (HS) risk in hypertensive adults remains unclear. We examined whether the inverse LDL-C-HS association partly arises from its effect on ASCVD. We estimated separable effects of LDL-C on HS outside (i.e., separable direct effect) or only through its effect on ASCVD (i.e., separable indirect effect) in hypertensive adults from the Chinese Multi-provincial Cohort Study. We quantified such effects using numbers needed to treat (NNT) to prevent or cause an extra HS based on the restricted mean event-free time till a 25-year follow-up. LDL-C $<$ 70 mg/dL was not associated with an increased HS risk compared to LDL-C $\ge$ 70 mg/dL regarding total and separable direct effects. However, a small separable indirect effect (i.e., NNT to harm: 9722 participants) was noted and validated via a series of sensitivity analyses. Moreover, modified effects were observed, particularly in the 35-49-year age group, men, and those with SBP $\ge$ 140 mm Hg. These results suggest the inverse LDL-C-HS association in hypertensive adults is partly due to its effect on ASCVD. A better understanding of such associations would provide more enlightening into stroke prevention.

Nosema ceranae, a parasite that parasitizes and reproduces in the gut of honeybees, has become a serious threat to the global apiculture industry. RNA interference (RNAi) technology can be used to inhibit N. ceranae growth by targeting silencing the thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) in N. ceranae. However, suitable carriers are one of the reasons limiting the application of RNAi due to the easy degradation of dsRNA in honeybees. As a vesicle composed of a lipid bilayer, liposomes are a good carrier for nucleic acid delivery, but studies in honeybees are lacking. In this study, liposomes were used for double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) dsTrxR delivery triggering RNAi to inhibit the N. ceranae growth in honeybees. Compared to naked dsTrxR, liposome-dsTrxR reduced N. ceranae numbers in the midgut and partially restored midgut morphology without affecting bee survival and gut microbial composition. The results of this study confirmed that liposomes could effectively protect dsRNA from entering the honeybee gut and provide a reference for using RNAi technology to suppress honeybee pests and diseases.

Graphene growth on widely used dielectrics/insulators via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a strategy toward transfer-free applications of CVD graphene for the realization of advanced composite materials. Here, we develop graphene-skinned alumina fibers/fabrics (GAFs/GAFFs) through graphene CVD growth on commercial alumina fibers/fabrics (AFs/AFFs). We reveal a vapor-surface-solid growth model on a non-metallic substrate, which is distinct from the well-established vapor-solid model on conventional non-catalytic non-metallic substrates, but bears a closer resemblance to that observed on catalytic metallic substrates. The metalloid-catalytic growth of graphene on AFs/AFFs resulted in reduced growth temperature (~200 °C lower) and accelerated growth rate (~3.4 times faster) compared to that obtained on a representative non-metallic counterpart, quartz fiber. The fabricated GAFF features a wide-range tunable electrical conductivity (1-15000 Ω sq-1), high tensile strength (>1.5 GPa), lightweight, flexibility, and a hierarchical macrostructure. These attributes are inherited from both graphene and AFF, making GAFF promising for various applications including electrical heating and electromagnetic interference shielding. Beyond laboratory level preparation, the stable mass production of large-scale GAFF has been achieved through a home-made roll-to-roll system with capacity of 468-93600 m2/year depending on product specifications, providing foundations for the subsequent industrialization of this material, enabling its widespread adoption in various industries.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a chronic progressive vascular disease characterized by abnormal pulmonary vascular resistance and pulmonary artery pressure. The major structural alteration during PH is pulmonary vascular remodelling, which is mainly caused by the imbalance between proliferation and apoptosis of pulmonary vascular cells. Previously, it was thought that apoptosis was the only type of programmed cell death (PCD). Soon afterward, other types of PCD have been identified, including autophagy, pyroptosis, ferroptosis and necroptosis. In this review, we summarize the role of the above five forms of PCD in mediating pulmonary vascular remodelling, and discuss their guiding significance for PH treatment. The current review could provide a better understanding of the correlation between PCD and pulmonary vascular remodelling, contributing to identify new PCD-associated drug targets for PH.

Aim: A keloid is a fibroproliferative cutaneous disorder secondary to skin injury, caused by an imbalance in fibroblast proliferation and apoptosis. However, the pathogenesis is not fully understood. In this study, candidate genes for keloid were identified and used to construct a diagnostic model. Methods: Three datasets related to keloids were downloaded from NCBI Gene Expression Omnibus. Fibroblast-related genes were screened, and fibroblast scores for the samples were determined. Then, a weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to identify modules and genes associated with keloids and the fibroblast score. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between keloid and control samples were identified and compared with fibroblast-related genes and genes in the modules. Overlapping genes were evaluated using functional enrichment analyses. Signature genes were further screened, and a diagnostic model was constructed. Finally, correlations between immune cell frequences and signature genes were analyzed. Results: In total, 124 fibroblast-related genes were obtained, and the fibroblast score was an effective indicator of the sample type. WGCNA revealed five modules that were significantly correlated with both the disease state and fibroblast scores, including 1760 genes. Additionally, 589 DEGs were identified, including 16 that overlapped with fibroblast-related genes and genes identified in the WGCNA. These genes were related to cell proliferation and apoptosis and were involved in FoxO, Rap1, p53, Ras, MAPK, and PI3K-Akt pathways. Finally, a six fibroblast-related gene signature (CCNB1, EGFR, E2F8, BTG1, TP63, and IGF1) was identified and used for diagnostic model construction. The proportions of regulatory T cells and macrophages were significantly higher in keloid tissues than in controls. Conclusion: The established model based on CCNB1, EGFR, E2F8, BTG1, TP63, and IGF1 showed good performance and may be useful for keloid diagnosis.

Hybrid Pennisetum, a top biomass energy source, faces usage limitations because of its scarce lactic acid bacteria and high fiber content. This study assessed the influence of rumen fluid pretreatment on hybrid Pennisetum's silage, with focus on silage duration and rumen fluid effects on quality and fiber decomposition. Advanced third-generation sequencing was used to track microbial diversity changes and revealed that rumen fluid considerably enhanced dry matter, crude protein, and water-soluble carbohydrates, thus improving fermentation quality to satisfactory pH levels (3.40-3.67). Ideal results, including the highest fiber breakdown and enzymatic efficiency (47.23 %), were obtained with 5 % rumen fluid in 60 days. The addition of rumen fluid changed the dominant species, including Paucilactobacillus vaccinostercus (0.00 % vs. 18.21 %) and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum (21.03 % vs. 47.02 %), and no Enterobacter was detected in the high-concentration treatments. Moreover, strong correlations were found between specific lactic acid bacteria and fermentation indicators, revealing the potential of achieving efficient and economically beneficial hybrid Pennisetum production.

Algae and its extracts, widely consumed as functional foods, offer numerous health benefits; however, a comprehensive systematic summary of clinical evidence is currently lacking. The study was to assess the available evidence and provide an accurate estimate of the overall effects of algae and its extracts supplementation on various health outcomes. The comprehensive searches in PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library until December 22, 2023 were implemented. The random-effects model was employed to pool the overall effect sizes (ESs) and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using Stata software. Moreover, detecting the methodological quality and evidence level of the eligible studies were employed by A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Review 2 (AMSTAR2) and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation. Ultimately, 25 articles covering 133 health outcomes were included in this umbrella review. The pooled results demonstrated that the algae and its extracts could significantly decrease body weight (ES = -1.65; 95% CI: -1.97, -1.34; p < 0.001), body mass index (BMI) (ES = -0.42; 95% CI: -0.78, -0.07; p = 0.020), waist circumference (WC) (ES = -1.40; 95% CI: -1.40, -1.39; p < 0.001), triglyceride (TG) (ES = -1.38; 95% CI: -2.15, -0.62; p < 0.001), total cholesterol (TC) (ES: -1.40; 95% CI: -2.09, -0.72; p < 0.001), very low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) (ES = -7.85; 95% CI: -8.55, -7.15; p < 0.001), fasting blood glucose (ES = -2.68; 95% CI: -4.57, -0.79; p = 0.005), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) (ES = -0.15; 95% CI: -0.24, -0.07; p < 0.001), systolic blood pressure (ES = -3.21; 95% CI: -5.25, -1.17; p = 0.002), diastolic blood pressure (ES = -3.84; 95% CI: -7.02, -0.65; p = 0.018), alanine transaminase (ES = -0.42; 95% CI: -0.70, -0.14; p = 0.003), and alkaline phosphatase (ES = -0.54; 95% CI: -0.99, -0.10; p = 0.017). Due to the limited number of studies, no benefit was displayed on markers of inflammation and oxidative stress. Considering the suboptimal quality of studies and the insufficient articles pertaining to certain outcomes, further well-designed research is imperative to substantiate the observed findings.

Graphene chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth directly on target using substrates presents a significant route toward graphene applications. However, the substrates are usually catalytic-inert and special-shaped; thus, large-scale, high-uniformity, and high-quality graphene growth is challenging. Herein, graphene-skinned glass fiber fabric (GGFF) was developed through graphene CVD growth on glass fiber fabric, a Widely used engineering material. A fluid dynamics rectification strategy was first proposed to synergistically regulate the distribution of carbon species in 3D space and their collisions with hierarchical-structured substrates, through which highly uniform deposition of high-quality graphene on fibers in large-scale 3D-woven fabric was realized. This strategy is universal and applicable to CVD systems using various carbon precursors. GGFF exhibits high electrical conductivity and photothermal conversion capability, based on which a natural energy harvester was first developed. It can harvest both solar and raindrop energy through solar heating and droplet-based electricity generating, presenting promising potentials to alleviate energy burdens.

OBJECTIVE: Textbook outcome (TO) is widely recognized as a comprehensive prognostic indication for patients with gastric cancer (GC). This study aims to develop a modified TO (mTO) for elderly patients with GC. METHODS: Data from the elderly patients (aged ≥ 65 years) in two Chinese tertiary referral hospitals were analyzed. 1389 patients from Fujian Medical University Union Hospital were assigned as the training cohort and 185 patients from Affiliated Hospital of Putian University as the validation cohort. Nomogram was developed by the independent prognostic factors of Overall Survival (OS) based on Cox regression. RESULTS: In the training cohort, laparoscopic surgery was significantly correlated with higher TO rate (P < 0.05). Cox regression analysis revealed that surgical approach was also an independent factor of OS (P < 0.001), distinct from the traditional TO. In light of these findings, TO parameters were enhanced by the inclusion of surgical approach, rendering a modified TO (mTO). Further analysis showed that mTO, tumor size, pTNM staging, and adjuvant chemotherapy were independent prognostic factors associated with OS (all P < 0.05). Additionally, the nomogram incorporating these four indicators accurately predicted 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS in the training cohort, with AUC values of 0.793, 0.814, and 0.807, respectively, and exhibited outstanding predictive performance within the validation cohort. CONCLUSION: mTO holds a robust association with the prognosis of elderly patients with GC, meriting intensified attention in efforts aimed at enhancing surgical quality. Furthermore, the predictive model incorporating mTO demonstrates excellent predictive performance for elderly patients with GC.
