A simple approach was developed to synthesize cobalt ferrite nanoparticles/graphene quantum dots (CF/GQDs). The material was prepared from a homogeneous mixture of iron nitrate, cobalt nitrate, and starch at 140, 180 and 200 °C in a 24 h thermal hydrolysis process. The obtained materials were characterised by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, vibrating-sample magnetometry, and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherms. Cobalt ferrite crystals of around 8-10 nm and graphene quantum dots formed directly at 200 °C. Stacking GQDs sheets onto the CF nanoparticles resulted in CF/GQDs nanoparticles. The nanocomposite exhibits satisfactory fluorescent and superparamagnetic properties, which are vital for catalytic applications. The CF/GQDs catalyse significantly the degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light. The catalyst can be recycled with an external magnetic field and displays suitable stability. Also, it was reused in three successive experiments with a loss of efficiency of about 5%. The CF/GQDs are considered as an efficient photocatalyst for MB degradation and other dyes.

CuCoFe-LDO/BCD was successfully synthesized from CuCoFe-LDH and biochar derived from durian shell (BCD). Ciprofloxacin (CFX) degraded more than 95% mainly by O2â¢- and 1O2 in CuCoFe-LDO/BCD(2/1)/PMS system within 10 min with a rate constant of 0.255 min-1, which was 14.35 and 2.66 times higher than those in BCD/PMS and CuCoFe-LDO/PMS systems, respectively. The catalytic system exhibited good performance over a wide pH range (3-9) and high degradation efficiency of other antibiotics. Built-in electric field (BIEF) driven by large difference in the work function/Fermi level ratio between CuCoFe-LDO and BCD accelerated continuous electron transfer from CuCoFe-LDO to BCD to result in two different microenvironments with opposite charges at the interface, which enhanced PMS adsorption and activation via different directions. As a non-radical, 1O2 was mainly generated via PMS activation by C=O in BCD. The presence of C=O in BCD resulted in an increase in atomic charge of C in C=O and redistributed the charge density of other C atoms. As a result, strong adsorption of PMS at C atom in C=O and other C with a high positive charge was favorable for 1O2 generation, whereas an enhanced adsorption of PMS at negatively charged C accounted for the generation of â¢OH and SO4â¢-. After adsorption, electrons in C of BCD became deficient and were fulfilled with those transferred from CuCoFe-LDO driven by BIEF, which ensured the high catalytic activity of CuCoFe-LDO/BCD. O2â¢-, on the other hand, was generated via several pathways that involved in the transformation of â¢OH and SO4â¢- originated from PMS activation by the transition of metal species in CuCoFe-LDO and negatively charged C in BCD. This study proposed a new idea of fabricating a low-cost metal-LDH and biomass-derived catalyst with a strong synergistic effect induced by BIEF for enhancing PMS activation and antibiotic degradation.

BACKGROUND: The cytogenetic characteristics are important factors for risk stratification at diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML); however, cytogenetic profile of Vietnamese patients with AML remains undetermined. In this study, we present the chromosomal data of de novo AML patients in Southern Vietnam. METHODS: We performed cytogenetic testing for 336 AML patients using G banding. If the patients had suspected abnormalities, fluorescence in situ hybridization with probes of inv(3)(q21q26)/t(3;3)(q21;q26), 5q31, 7q31, t(8;21)(q21.3;q22), 11q23, t(15;17)(q24;q21), inv(16)(p13q22)/t(16;16)(p13;q22)were analyzed. Patients without above aberrations or with normal karyotype were tested by fluorescence in situ hybridization using probe 11q23. RESULTS: We found that the median age was 39 years. According to French - American - British classification, AML-M2 is the most frequent type with 35.1%. Chromosomal abnormalities were detected in 208 cases, accounting for 61.9%. Among structural abnormalities, t(15;17) was the most common (19.6%), followed by t(8;21) and inv (16)/t(16;16) in 10.1% and 6.2%, respectively. In perspective of chromosomal numerical abnornmalities, loss of sex chromosomes are the most common (7.7%), followed by +8 in 6.8%, -7/del(7q) in 4.4%, +21 in 3.9% and -5/del (5q) in 2.1%. The prevalence of addditional cytogenetic aberrations accompanying with t(8;21) and inv(16)/t(16;16) were 82.4% and 52.4%, repectively. None of +8 cases was associated with t(8;21). Regarding cytogenetic risk assessment according to European Leukemia Net 2017, there were 121 (36%) patients in favorable-risk, 180 (53.6%) in intermediate-risk and 35 (10.4%) in adverse-risk group. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, this is the first comprehensive cytogenetic profile of Vietnamese patients diagnosed with de novo AML, which helps clinical doctors in prognostic classification for AML patients in Southern Vietnam.

BACKGROUND: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) has emerged as a critical issue in the intensive care unit (ICU) because of its high burden on patients and medical staff. Here, we examined the potential for reducing VAP incidence through physical oral care interventions without any medication. METHODS: This prospective interventional study compared VAP incidence during an 8-month baseline period (usual oral care) and a 9-month intervention period (physical oral care with sponge brush) among patients who received mechanical ventilation for >48 h in a tertiary care hospital in Vietnam from 2017 to 2019. Physical oral care was provided by general ICU nurses who had been trained by dentists and infection control nurses. VAP was diagnosed using the Clinical Pulmonary Infection Score. RESULTS: In total, 423 patients were enrolled in the baseline group and 454 patients were enrolled in the intervention group; 303 and 300 patients, respectively, were included in the analysis. Two hundred thirty-eight VAP episodes were identified: 135 (44.6%) during the baseline period and 103 (34.3%) during the intervention period. Univariate analysis revealed significant reduction of VAP occurrence in the intervention period (odds ratio = 0.65; 95% confidence interval = 0.47-0.90; P = 0.010). The incidences of VAP per 1000 ventilator-days were 63.4 (135/2128) during the baseline period and 48.4 (103/2128) during the intervention period (P = 0.038). CONCLUSIONS: Physical oral care without any medication (e.g., chlorhexidine) reduced VAP incidence in the ICU. This method could be used to reduce VAP incidence, particularly in countries with limited medical resources.

Hipposideros larvatus sensu lato constitutes a widespread species complex consisting of morphologically similar forms with a taxonomy that is in need of a revision. Here we present the results of a phylogenetic analysis of members of this species complex based on two mitochondrial (CytB and COI) and seven nuclear (ABHD11, ACOX2, COPS, RAG2, ROGDI2, SORBS2 and THY) genes, and a morphometric analysis. Morphological data, although showing certain diversity, does not allow an accurate delimitation of the taxonomic boundaries and occasionally contradict to genetic grouping. The molecular analyses based on mitochondrial data support the paraphyly of the H. larvatus species complex, with H. armiger recovered nested within. The nuclear data recovered all the lineages of H. larvatus sensu lato forming a monophyletic clade. Within it, apparently four different species-level clades could be revealed in Southeast Asia. One is distributed in northern Myanmar, southern China (including Hainan) and northern Vietnam, and also reaches into central Vietnam along the coast (Cham Islands). The valid name for this taxon must be H. poutensis Allen. The second clade is comprised by populations inhabiting the Malay Peninsula and the Sunda Islands, we identify this taxon as H. larvatus sensu stricto. The third taxon was identified only from southern Myanmar. The fourth taxon is distributed in southern and central Indochina. Its representatives were not related to any of the forms identified in Myanmar, and therefore, its previous identification with H. grandis sounds questionable. Since both the third and fourth taxa cannot now be unambiguously associated with a particular named form, we conventionally designate them as H. cf. grandis 1 and 2.

Bats are the second-most speciose group of mammals, comprising 20% of species diversity today. Their global explosion, representing one of the greatest adaptive radiations in mammalian history, is largely attributed to their ability of laryngeal echolocation and powered flight, which enabled them to conquer the night sky, a vast and hitherto unoccupied ecological niche. While there is consensus that powered flight evolved only once in the lineage, whether laryngeal echolocation has a single origin in bats or evolved multiple times independently remains disputed. Here, we present developmental evidence in support of laryngeal echolocation having multiple origins in bats. This is consistent with a non-echolocating bat ancestor and independent gain of echolocation in Yinpterochiroptera and Yangochiroptera, as well as the gain of primitive echolocation in the bat ancestor, followed by convergent evolution of laryngeal echolocation in Yinpterochiroptera and Yangochiroptera, with loss of primitive echolocation in pteropodids. Our comparative embryological investigations found that there is no developmental difference in the hearing apparatus between non-laryngeal echolocating bats (pteropodids) and terrestrial non-bat mammals. In contrast, the echolocation system is developed heterotopically and heterochronically in the two phylogenetically distant laryngeal echolocating bats (rhinolophoids and yangochiropterans), providing the first embryological evidence that the echolocation system evolved independently in these bats.

Knowledge as to the taxonomic status of enigmatic bat species often is hindered by limited availability of specimens. This is particularly true for aerial-hawking bats that are difficult to catch. One such species, "Hypsugo" joffrei, was originally described in Nyctalus due to its long and slender wings, but subsequently transferred to Pipistrellus, and most recently to Hypsugo, on the basis of morphology. Analysis of newly available material, which more than doubles the known specimens of this taxon, demonstrates that it is morphologically and genetically distinct from all other bat genera. We accordingly describe it as belonging to a new, monotypic genus. We provide a detailed description of its external and craniodental traits, measurements, and assessment of genetic relationships, including barcode sequences to facilitate its rapid identification in future. The new genus belongs to a group that includes the recently described Cassistrellus, as well as Tylonycteris, and its closest relative, Philetor. We also describe the echolocation calls emitted by members of the taxon in different situations, which may facilitate finding them in previously unsampled locations. Based on the new data, the species occurs from Nepal to North Vietnam and China, which suggests that it could be more widespread than previously thought.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a frequent preventable complication among surgical patients. Precise risk assessment is a necessary step for providing appropriate thromboprophylaxis and reducing mortality as well as morbidity caused by VTE. We carried out this work to define the rate of VTE postoperatively, following a Caprini score, and to determine VTE risk factors through a modified Caprini risk scoring system. This multicenter, observational, cohort study involved 2,790,027 patients who underwent surgery in four Vietnamese hospitals from 01/2017 to 12/2018. All patients who were evaluated before surgery by using a Caprini risk assessment model (RAM) and monitored within 90 days after surgery. The endpoint of the study was ultrasound-confirmed VTE. Our data showed that the 90-day postoperative VTE was found in 3068 patients. Most of VTE (46.97%) cases were found in the highest risk group (Caprini score > 5). A total of 37.19% were observed in the high risk group, while the rest (15.84%) were from low to moderate risk groups. The likelihood of occurring VTE was heightened 2.83 times for patients with a Caprini score of 3-4, 4.83 times for a Caprini score of 5-6, 8.84 times for a score of 7-8, and 11.42 times for a score of >8, comparing to ones with a score of 0 to 2 (all p values < 0.05). Thus, the frequency of postoperative VTE rises substantially, according to the advanced Caprini score. Further categorizing patients among the highest risk group need delivering more appropriate thromboprophylaxis.

BACKGROUND: Self-powered flight is one of the most energy-intensive types of locomotion found in vertebrates. It is also associated with a range of extreme morpho-physiological adaptations that evolved independently in three different vertebrate groups. Considering that development acts as a bridge between the genotype and phenotype on which selection acts, studying the ossification of the postcranium can potentially illuminate our understanding of bat flight evolution. However, the ontogenetic basis of vertebrate flight remains largely understudied. Advances in quantitative analysis of sequence heterochrony and morphogenetic growth have created novel approaches to study the developmental basis of diversification and the evolvability of skeletal morphogenesis. Assessing the presence of ontogenetic disparity, integration and modularity from an evolutionary approach allows assessing whether flight may have resulted in evolutionary differences in the magnitude and mode of development in bats. RESULTS: We quantitatively compared the prenatal ossification of the postcranium (24 bones) between bats (14 species), non-volant mammals (11 species) and birds (14 species), combining for the first time prenatal sequence heterochrony and developmental growth data. Sequence heterochrony was found across groups, showing that bat postcranial development shares patterns found in other flying vertebrates but also those in non-volant mammals. In bats, modularity was found as an axial-appendicular partition, resembling a mammalian pattern of developmental modularity and suggesting flight did not repattern prenatal postcranial covariance in bats. CONCLUSIONS: Combining prenatal data from 14 bat species, this study represents the most comprehensive quantitative analysis of chiropteran ossification to date. Heterochrony between the wing and leg in bats could reflect functional needs of the newborn, rather than ecological aspects of the adult. Bats share similarities with birds in the development of structures involved in flight (i.e. handwing and sternum), suggesting that flight altriciality and early ossification of pedal phalanges and sternum are common across flying vertebrates. These results indicate that the developmental modularity found in bats facilitates intramodular phenotypic diversification of the skeleton. Integration and disparity increased across developmental time in bats. We also found a delay in the ossification of highly adaptable and evolvable regions (e.g. handwing and sternum) that are directly associated with flight performance.

Most morphological and physiological adaptations associated with bat flight are concentrated in the postcranium, reflecting strong functional demands for flight performance. Despite an association between locomotory diversity and trophic differentiation, postcranial morphological diversity in bats remains largely unexplored. Evolutionary developmental biology is a novel approach providing a link between the analysis of genotypic and phenotypic variation resulting from selective pressures. To quantify the morphological diversity of the postcranium in bats and to explore its developmental basis, we reconstructed the postcranial allometric trajectories of nine bat species from different prenatal developmental series, representing five families and both suborders. We tested for allometric growth in Chiroptera and also quantified levels of allometric disparity and inter-trajectory distances. Using a phylogenetic scaffold, we assessed whether ontogenetic differences reflect evolutionary relationships. We found significant allometric growth trajectories in almost all species. Interspecific trajectory distances showed lower variance within Yinpterochiroptera than within Yangochiroptera and between suborders. Each suborder occupied nonoverlapping sections of allometric space, showing changes in the growth rates of specific bones for each suborder. The allometry-corrected disparity was significantly higher in larger species. Statistically significant phylogenetic signal in our results suggests that there is an ontogenetic basis for the postcranial morphological diversity in modern bats. Ancestral state reconstruction also showed an increase in the amount of change in shape with size in the larger species studied. We hypothesize that differences in allometric patterns among bat taxa may reflect a size-dependent evolutionary constraint, whereby variability in body size and allometric patterns are associated.

BACKGROUND: Direct oral anticoagulant-rivaroxaban may provide a simple, fixed-dose therapy for the management of hospital-acquired, acute venous thromboembolism (VTE) and for extended treatment, its use could skip lab observation and/or parenteral treatment. AIM: Compare the efficacy and safety (EAS) of RIV vs. standard therapy (SDTD) in a cohort of Vietnamese patients diagnosed with symptomatic, acute VTE. METHODS: An open-label, case-control, prospective study was conducted to check the efficacy and safety (EAS) of oral rivaroxaban (RIV) alone (15 mg 2 times/day for 3 weeks, then 20 mg 1 time/day) in a comparison to the standard therapy (STDT) (enoxaparin 1.0 mg/kg 2 times/day combining with vitamin K antagonist). Patients were treated for 6 months and followed-up for suspect reoccurring VTE and bleeding. RESULTS: A total 187 patients were enrolled into study. 83 were provided rivaroxaban and 104 received enoxaparin overlapping with vitamin K antagonist (VKAs). Recurrent VTE occurred in 3 (3.6%) rivaroxaban-received patients compared with 5 (4.8%) standard-treatment received patients (OR: 0.74, 95% CI, 0.17 to 3.20, p > 0.05). Major bleeding events were found in 1 (1,8%) and 4 (3.9%) cases in the RIV treated and STDT cohort, respectively (OR: 0.30, 95% CI, 0.03 to 2.76, p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The finding of this study in Vietnamese patients with acute VTE presented comparable EAS profile with RIV versus STDT, consistent with those found in global population.

BACKGROUND: Sepsis and septic shock are common problems in intensive care units (ICUs). The mortality of patients with sepsis or septic shock is high. We investigated if reduction in the serum concentration of the cytokines tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-10, and the rate of change in the IL-6 level at 24 h after ICU admission were survival predictors for patients with sepsis and septic shock in a Vietnamese population. METHODS: This was a prospective study conducted at an ICU in Cho Ray Hospital, Vietnam, from October 2014 to October 2016. Patients diagnosed with sepsis or septic shock using validated international guidelines were enrolled. Plasma samples were collected upon (T0) and 24 h after (T24) ICU admission for measurement of cytokine concentrations. Blood tests were done to detect organ dysfunction. The duration of ICU stays, hospital stay, APACHE II and SOFA scores, and the in-hospital mortality were compared between survival and non-survival groups. Univariate logistic regression and multivariate analysis were done to determine the association between survival and IL-6 reduction at 24 h after ICU admission. RESULTS: A total of 123 patients were enrolled. The concentration (in pg/mL) of IL-6 at To was 413.3 in survivors and 530.0 in non- survivors. At T24, the IL-6 level was 65.4 for survivors and 286.9 for non-survivors. The survival rate was 39.0%. At T24, the concentrations of IL-6 and the reduction in IL-6 level were predictors of survival in patients with sepsis and septic shock. We found a significant association between IL-6 reduction and survival at ≥86% with Odds Ratio (OR) 5.67, 95% Confidence Interval (CI); 1.27-25.3, compared with an increase in the IL-6 rate of change. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggested that a reduction in the IL-6 level of ≥86% at 24 h from ICU admission is a survival predictor for patients with sepsis and septic shock in our population.

Cochlear morphology has been regarded as one of the key traits to understand the origin and evolution of echolocation in bats, given its functionality and performance for receiving echolocation sonar. While numerous researchers have compared adult-stage morphology, few have studied the prenatal development of the cochlea. Here, we provide the first detailed three-dimensional description of the prenatal cranial development in bats, using Rhinolophus thomasi as a model, with particular interest to the petrosal which houses the cochlea. Results revealed that among all cranial bones the onset of the ossification of the petrosal is earlier in R. thomasi when compared to other reported mammals. Generally, the cochlea reaches adult size and shape before or around birth in placental mammals including bats, but we found that its shape and size growths continue until maturity in Rhinolophus species. The relationship of cochlear size and skull size is maintained constant throughout the postnatal ontogeny to adulthood in Rhinolophus, a pattern previously reported neither in any other bats nor other mammals. The peculiar developmental pattern in Rhinolophus possibly allows them to form their characteristically large cochlea and facilitate their distinctive echolocation behavior. A recent study reported that non-echolocating Pteropodidae shares a similar prenatal cochlear size to laryngeal echolocating bats. The apparent resemblance of fetal cochlear size was proposed to be a vestigial signal of large cochlear size in the last common ancestor of bats and thus as supporting evidence for the single origin of laryngeal echolocation. However, results from the present observations suggest that limited aspects of the cochlear development were captured in this previous investigation and that the resulting interpretations may be questionable. We point out that diversity and patterns of cochlear development among bats are still not resolved, and the controversy on the origins of laryngeal echolocation is still open to discussion.

A macroscopic examination of the huge leg of the Dong Tao breed from North Vietnam was conducted. Bone and muscular tendon morphometric data demonstrated that the Dong Tao breed was equipped with the extraordinarily thick and large tarsometatarsal bone and distal parts of the related tibiotarsus regions. Morphological differences between dorsal and plantar sides were clearly observed. First, on the dorsal side, fleshy bundles were extended effectively using the enlarged dorsal surface of tarsometatarsal bone shown as Musuculus extensor digitorum brevis, M. extensor digiti I brevis and M. adductor digiti IV. The strong and fleshy extensor bellies of M. tibialis cranialis and M. extensor digitorum longus were enlarged in the crural region, functioning to dorsally pull the heavy tarsometatarsal region through the ankle joint. Second, on the plantar side, the flexor tendon groups around the ankle joint were wider and thicker than those of other ordinary breeds, possibly to stabilize the tarsometatarsal bone and to flex the phalange as observed in M. flexor perforatus digiti II, M. flexor perforans et perforatus digiti II, M. flexor perforatus digiti III, M. flexor perforans et perforatus digiti III, M. flexor perforatus digiti IV, and M. flexor perforans digitorum profundus. The mass of the huge tarsometatarsal region does not contribute to effective locomotion in the Dong Tao fowl in comparison with that associated with normal breeds. However, we suggest that these morphological changes in the musculoskeletal system may functionally compensate for the physical disadvantages of the large weight of the distal part of the hindlimb in the Dong Tao fowl.

Accurate species delimitation in Lepus was often hindered by highly conserved morphology and frequent introgression. In this study, we used rigorous molecular species delimitation methods to evaluate the taxonomic status of Hainan hare (Lepus hainanus) which has been traditionally identified as a distinct species, or a subspecies of Burmese hare (L. peguensis). The genetic distance and phylogenetic network support L. hainanus and L. peguensis are conspecific. However, the phylogenetic species concept and Bayesian species delimitation analysis based on combined mtDNA supported they are different species. The discordance between different methods can be explained by different species criterion. By taking into account our conflict results, we hold the opinion that adoption of the phylogenetic species concept and Bayesian species delimitation analysis would increase the risk of taxonomic inflation of island biota or otherwise spatially isolated population. Conservatively, we suggest that L. hainanus and L. peguensis are conspecific based on the results of our genetic divergence and phylogenetic network exclusively.

BACKGROUND: Acinetobacter baumannii strains co-producing carbapenemase and 16S rRNA methylase are highly resistant to carbapenems and aminoglycosides. METHODS: Ninety-three isolates of multidrug-resistant A. baumannii were obtained from an intensive care unit in a hospital in Vietnam. Antimicrobial susceptibility tests and whole genome sequencing were performed. Multilocus sequence typing and the presence of drug resistant genes were determined and a maximum-likelihood phylogenetic tree was constructed by SNP alignment of whole genome sequencing data. RESULTS: The majority of isolates belonged to clonal complex 2 (ST2, ST570 and ST571), and carried carbapenemase encoding genes bla OXA-23 and bla OXA-66. Two isolates encoded carbapenemase genes bla NDM-1 and bla OXA-58 and the 16S rRNA methylase encoding gene armA and did not belong to clonal complex 2 (ST16). CONCLUSION: A. baumannii isolates producing 16S rRNA methylase ArmA and belonging to clonal complex 2 are widespread, and isolates co-producing NDM-1 and ArmA are emerging, in medical settings in Vietnam.

Hypsugo was regarded as a subgenus of Pipistrellus by many authors, but its generic distinctiveness is now widely accepted. According to recent taxonomic arrangements, nine species are known to occur in Southeast Asia. During the investigation of material recently collected from Lao PDR and Vietnam we identified an additional species and hence describe it here as Hypsugo dolichodon n. sp. It resembles H. pulveratus, but is larger with conspicuously long canines and differs considerably in the DNA barcode gene sequence.

The recently increased interest in studies on sequence heterochrony has uncovered developmental variation between species. However, how changes in developmental program are related to shifts in life-history parameters remains largely unsolved. Here we provide the most comprehensive data to date on postcranial ossification sequence of bats and compare them to various boreoeutherian mammals with different locomotive modes. Given that bats are equipped with an elongated manus, we expected to detect characteristic heterochronies particularly related to wing development. Although heterochronies related to wing development were confirmed as predicted, unexpected heterochronies regarding the pedal digits were also found. The timing of ossification onset of pedal phalanges is earlier than other mammals. Particularly, bats deviate from others in that pedal phalanges initiate ossification earlier than manual phalanges. It is known that the foot size of new born bats is close to that of adults, and that it takes several weeks to month until the wing is developed for flight. Given that the foot is required to be firm and stable enough at the time of birth to allow continued attachment to the mother and/or cave walls, we suggest that the accelerated development of the hind foot is linked to their unique life history. Since the forelimb is not mature enough for flight at birth and requires extended postnatal time to be large enough to be fully functional, we postulate that bats invest in earlier development of the hindlimb. We conclud that energy allocation trade-offs can play a significant role in shaping the evolution of development.

Neurolymphomatosis is a rare manifestation of non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by infiltration of peripheral nerves, nerve roots, plexus and cranial nerves by malignant lymphocytes. This report presents positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT)imaging with 2-deoxy-2-(18)F-fluoro-D-glucose ((18)F-FDG) in 3 cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma with nerve infiltration, including one newly diagnosed lymphoma, one recurrent lymphoma in previous nerve lesions and one newly recurrent lymphoma. PET/CT could reveal the affected neural structures including cranial nerves, spinal nerve roots, brachial plexus, cervicothoracic ganglion, intercostal nerves, branches of the vagus nerve, lumbosacral plexus and sciatic nerves. There was relative concordance between PET/CT and MRI in detection of affected cranial nerves. PET/CT seemed to be better than MRI in detection of affected peripheral nerves. (18)F-FDG PET/CT was a whole-body imaging technique with the ability to reveal the affected cranial nerves, peripheral nerves, nerve roots and plexus in non-Hodgkin lymphoma. A thorough understanding of disease and use of advanced imaging modalities will increasingly detect neurolymphomatosis.
