RESUMEN

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a serious cardiovascular disease with complex complications and high lethality. Currently, exosome (Exo) therapy has emerged as a promising treatment of ischemic MI due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and vascular abilities. However, traditional Exo delivery lacks spatiotemporal precision and targeting of microenvironment modulation, making it difficult to localize the lesion site for sustained effects. In this study, an injectable oxidized hyaluronic acid-polylysine (OHA-PL) hydrogel was developed to conveniently load adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell exosomes (ADSC-Exos) and improve their retention under physiological conditions. The OHA-PL@Exo hydrogel with high spatiotemporal precision is transplanted minimally invasively into the ischemic myocardium to scavenge intracellular and extracellular reactive oxygen species, regulate macrophage polarization, and attenuate inflammation in the early phase of MI. In addition, this synergistic microenvironment modulation can effectively reduce myocardial fibrosis and ventricular remodeling, promote angiogenesis, and restore electrophysiological function in the late stage of MI. Therefore, this hyaluronic acid-polylysine to deliver exosomes has become a promising therapeutic strategy for myocardial repair.

Experimental teaching is an important part of postgraduate training in basic and clinical medicine. While primary cell isolation and identification are among the most important research techniques for medical graduate students, most graduate students do not understand and master these techniques before starting their research experience. In particular, many students lack training in this field, and high-quality teaching and learning materials are still very sparse. Here, we designed a practical experiment course for graduate students engaged in research. The target students usually have research projects involving primary cell culture in their future research, making the course highly applicable for the students. The lab exercise focused on the methods of primary cell isolation (including mechanical grinding method, explant culture method and enzymatic digestion method) and identification (including flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) staining). It aimed to help students master the conceptual, principle, technical, operation, and analytical skills related to primary cell culture and contributed to their foundation for future research. Students generally reflect that they have initially mastered the isolation and identification of primary cell culture as a result of the course. Student feedback also indicates significantly increased confidence in the practical application of primary cell culture in the future. Here, we provide our experience for others who may want to implement similar courses.

Volumetric muscle loss (VML) frequently results from traumatic incidents and can lead to severe functional disabilities. Hydrogels have been widely employed for VML tissue regeneration, which are unfortunately ineffective because of the lack of intimate contact with injured tissue for structural and mechanical support. Adhesive hydrogels allow for strong tissue connections for wound closure. Nevertheless, conventional adhesive hydrogels exhibit poor tissue adhesion in moist, bleeding wounds due to the hydration layer at the tissue-hydrogel interfaces, resulting in insufficient performance. In this study, we developed a novel, biocompatible, wet tissue adhesive powder hydrogel consisting of dextran-aldehyde (dex-ald) and gelatin for the regeneration of VML. This powder absorbs the interfacial tissue fluid and buffer solution on the tissue, spontaneously forms a hydrogel, and strongly adheres to the tissue via various molecular interactions, including the Schiff base reaction. In particular, the powder composition with a 1:4 ratio of dex-ald to gelatin exhibited optimal characteristics with an appropriate gelation time (258 s), strong tissue adhesion (14.5 kPa), and stability. Dex-ald/gelatin powder hydrogels presented strong adhesion to various organs and excellent hemostasis compared to other wet hydrogels and fibrin glue. A mouse VML injury model revealed that the dex-ald/gelatin powder hydrogel significantly improved muscle regeneration, reduced fibrosis, enhanced vascularization, and decreased inflammation. Consequently, our wet-adhesive powder hydrogel can serve as an effective platform for repairing various tissues, including the heart, muscle, and nerve tissues.

In this study, the effects of soil conditioners on the growth and development of melons and the rhizosphere soil environment were explored. The optimal amount of added soil conditioner was screened to solve the practical production problems of high-quality and high-yield thin-skinned melon. The melon variety "Da Shetou" was used as the material. Under the conditions of conventional fertilization and cultivation technology management, different soil conditioners were set up for potted melons. The effects of Pastoral soil (CK), 95% Pastoral soil + 5% volcanic ash soil conditioner (KT1), 85% Pastoral soil + 15% volcanic ash soil conditioner (KT2), 75% Pastoral soil + 25% volcanic ash soil conditioner (KT3), 65% Pastoral soil + 35% volcanic ash soil conditioner (KT4), and 55% Pastoral soil + 45% volcanic ash soil conditioner (KT5) on melon yield, quality, and rhizosphere soil characteristics were investigated. The soil microbial community was analyzed using Illumina MiSeq technology. Compared to CK, KT1, KT3, KT4, and KT5, the KT2 treatment could improve the single fruit yield of melon, increasing it by 4.35%, 2.48%, 2.31%, 5.92%, and 2.92%. Meanwhile, the highest contents of soluble protein, soluble solid, and soluble sugar in the KT2 treatment were 1.89 mg·100 g-1, 16.35%, and 46.44 mg·g-1, which were significantly higher than those in the control treatment. The contents of organic matter, total nitrogen, alkali-soluble nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, available potassium, and available phosphorus in melon rhizosphere soil were the highest in the KT2 treatment. Through Alpha diversity analysis, it was found that the Chao1 index, Shannon index, and ACE index were significantly higher in the KT1 treatment than in the control, while, among all groups, the Simpson index and coverage were not significantly different. The dominant bacteria in the six treated samples were mainly Actinobacteriota, Proteobacteria, Cyanobacteria, Chloroflexi, Acidobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Myxomycota, Firmicutes, Gemmatimonadota, Verrucomicrobia, and Planctomycetes, which accounted for 96.59~97.63% of the relative abundance of all bacterial groups. Through redundancy analysis (RDA), it was found that the organic matter, electrical conductivity, available phosphorus, and nitrate nitrogen of melon rhizosphere soil were the dominant factors of bacterial community change at the dominant genus level. In summary, 15% ash soil conditioner applied on melon was the selected treatment to provide a theoretical reference for the application of soil conditioner in facility cultivation.

The ketogenic diet (KD) and regular exercise (EX) are both capable of orchestrating circadian metabolism homeostasis during losing weight. However, the combined effects of these two factors on circadian metabolism remain poorly understood. To determine if the combined treatment yields a superimposed physiological phenotype, we measured weight loss, white adipose, the respiratory exchange ratio (RER), heat production, and activity parameters in individual and combined treatment groups. Surprisingly, none of these metrics displayed a cumulative effect when administered in the combined treatment approach. Additionally, we investigated the impact of combination therapy on molecular homeostasis through using high-throughput liver transcriptomic approaches. The results revealed that individual and combined treatments can reprogram the circadian rhythm; yet, the combined group exhibited a minimum quantity of cyclic transcript genes. Noteworthy, the amplitude of 24 h circadian expression genes was not significantly increased in the combination treatment, indicating that the combined approach has non-overlapping effects on maintenance peripheral metabolism homeostasis. This may be due to the liver requiring less ketogenic and gluconeogenic potential during metabolic processes. This research suggests that combined treatment may have adverse effects on the body's homeostasis and provide crucial insights for the homeostatic health of athletes or individuals who wish to lose weight.

Background: Troponin (Tn) is of an important biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of myocardial injury and for evaluating the severity of cardiac involvement due to other systemic diseases in children. Unfortunately, high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) specific reference intervals (RIs) are extremely limited. This study aimed to establish a preliminary pediatric hs-cTnI RI for newborns, children, and adolescents in Wuhan, China. Methods: A total of 1,355 healthy participants (1 day to 19 years) were recruited from a cross-sectional study implemented in Wuhan Children's Hospital from September 2022 to August 2023. Serum hs-cTnI levels were detected via the Mindray automated chemiluminescence immunoassay analyzer (CL-6000i). Specific serum hs-cTnI RIs were established according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. The RIs were defined by the nonparametric median (P50), and 2.5th, 97.5th [P50 (P2.5-P97.5)] intervals. Results: Of the 1,355 pediatric participants, serum hs-cTnI concentrations of 1,332 children were measured. The serum overall P50 and 95% interval range (P2.5-P97.5) of serum hs-cTnI was 0.41 (0.00, 44.31) ng/L. This was higher in males of 0.47 (0.00, 44.90) ng/L than in females of 0.36 (0.00, 44.17) ng/L (P<0.01). Age- and sex-specific differences in hs-cTnI levels were observed. The levels were highly variable in children under 1 year of age (especially in newborns), deriving a P50 (P2.5-P97.5) of 22.06 (1.04, 154.22) ng/L, and gradually narrowed and decreased with increasing age, with a markedly lower established P50 (P2.5-P97.5) of 0.36 (0.00, 2.16) ng/L. However, the levels began to increase slightly at the age of 9-12 years and reached a small peak at the age range of 15 to 18 years in males with 0.71 (0.03, 3.29) ng/L, while females were less affected by puberty. Sex- and age-specific RIs for hs-cTnI were established: 5 age-specific RIs in males, 1 day-1 month: 30.16 (8.67, 171.81) ng/L; >1-12 months: 13.20 (0.63, 61.91) ng/L; >1-15 years: 0.36 (0.00, 1.86) ng/L; >15-18 years: 0.71 (0.03, 3.29) ng/L; >18-19 years: 0.52 (0.00, 1.92) ng/L; and 4 age-specific RIs in females, 1 day-1 month: 43.93 (18.82, 146.38) ng/L; >1-12 months: 5.22 (0.92, 42.54) ng/L; >1-6 years: 0.54 (0.00, 2.74) ng/L; >6-19 years: 0.23 (0.00, 1.56) ng/L. Conclusions: This study preliminarily established age- and sex-specific serum hs-cTnI RIs using the Mindray CL-6000i system in healthy children in Wuhan, China.

Flexible multiplexing chips that permit reconfigurable multidimensional channel utilization are indispensable for revolutionary 6G terahertz communications, but the insufficient manipulation capability of terahertz waves prevents their practical implementation. Herein, we propose the first experimental demonstration of a flexible multiplexing chip for terahertz communication by revealing the unique mechanism of topological phase (TP) transition and perseveration in a heterogeneously coupled bilayer valley Hall topological photonic system. The synthetic and individual TPs operated in the coupled and decoupled states enable controllable on-chip modular TP transitions and subchannel switching. Two time-frequency interleaved subchannels support 10- and 12-Gbit/s QAM-16 high-speed data streams along corresponding paths over carriers of 120 and 130 GHz with 2.5- and 3-GHz bandwidths, respectively. This work unlocks interlayer heterogeneous TPs for inspiring ingenious on-chip terahertz-wave regulation, allowing functionality-reconfigurable, compactly integrated and CMOS-compatible chips.

BACKGROUND: An inherent difference exists between male and female bodies, the historical under-representation of females in clinical trials widened this gap in existing healthcare data. The fairness of clinical decision-support tools is at risk when developed based on biased data. This paper aims to quantitatively assess the gender bias in risk prediction models. We aim to generalize our findings by performing this investigation on multiple use cases at different hospitals. METHODS: First, we conduct a thorough analysis of the source data to find gender-based disparities. Secondly, we assess the model performance on different gender groups at different hospitals and on different use cases. Performance evaluation is quantified using the area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUROC). Lastly, we investigate the clinical implications of these biases by analyzing the underdiagnosis and overdiagnosis rate, and the decision curve analysis (DCA). We also investigate the influence of model calibration on mitigating gender-related disparities in decision-making processes. RESULTS: Our data analysis reveals notable variations in incidence rates, AUROC, and over-diagnosis rates across different genders, hospitals and clinical use cases. However, it is also observed the underdiagnosis rate is consistently higher in the female population. In general, the female population exhibits lower incidence rates and the models perform worse when applied to this group. Furthermore, the decision curve analysis demonstrates there is no statistically significant difference between the model's clinical utility across gender groups within the interested range of thresholds. CONCLUSION: The presence of gender bias within risk prediction models varies across different clinical use cases and healthcare institutions. Although inherent difference is observed between male and female populations at the data source level, this variance does not affect the parity of clinical utility. In conclusion, the evaluations conducted in this study highlight the significance of continuous monitoring of gender-based disparities in various perspectives for clinical risk prediction models.

Immunochemotherapy is the first-line standard for extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC). Combining the regimen with anti-angiogenesis may improve efficacy. ETER701 was a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled phase 3 trial that investigated the efficacy and safety of benmelstobart (a novel programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) inhibitor) with anlotinib (a multi-target anti-angiogenic small molecule) and standard chemotherapy in treatment-naive ES-SCLC. The ETER701 trial assessed two primary endpoints: Independent Review Committee-assessed progression-free survival per RECIST 1.1 and overall survival (OS). Here the prespecified final progression-free survival and interim OS analysis is reported. Patients randomly received benmelstobart and anlotinib plus etoposide/carboplatin (EC; n = 246), placebo and anlotinib plus EC (n = 245) or double placebo plus EC ('EC alone'; n = 247), followed by matching maintenance therapy. Compared with EC alone, median OS was prolonged with benmelstobart and anlotinib plus EC (19.3 versus 11.9 months; hazard ratio 0.61; P = 0.0002), while improvement of OS was not statistically significant with anlotinib plus EC (13.3 versus 11.9 months; hazard ratio 0.86; P = 0.1723). The incidence of grade 3 or higher treatment-related adverse events was 93.1%, 94.3% and 87.0% in the benmelstobart and anlotinib plus EC, anlotinib plus EC, and EC alone groups, respectively. This study of immunochemotherapy plus multi-target anti-angiogenesis as first-line treatment achieved a median OS greater than recorded in prior randomized studies in patients with ES-SCLC. The safety profile was assessed as tolerable and manageable. Our findings suggest that the addition of anti-angiogenesis therapy to immunochemotherapy may represent an efficacious and safe approach to the management of ES-SCLC. Background: High altitude de-acclimatization (HADA) is gradually becoming a public health concern as millions of individuals of different occupations migrate to high-altitude areas for work due to economic growth in plateau areas. HADA affects people who return to lower elevations after exposure to high altitudes. It causes significant physiological and functional changes that can negatively impact health and even endanger life. However, uncertainties persist about the detailed mechanisms underlying HADA. Methods: We established a population cohort of individuals with HADA and assessed variations in metabolite composition. Plasm samples of four groups, including subjects staying at plain (P) and high altitude (H) as well as subjects suffering from HADA syndrome with almost no reaction (r3) and mild-to-moderate reaction (R3) after returning to plain from high altitude, were collected and analyzed by Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry metabolomic. Multivariate statistical analyses were used to explore significant differences and potential clinical prospect of metabolites. Result: Although significantly different on current HADAS diagnostic symptom score, there were no differences in 17 usual clinical indices between r3 and R3. Further multivariate analyses showed isolated clustering distribution of the metabolites among the four groups, suggesting significant differences in their metabolic characteristics. Through K-means clustering analysis, we identified 235 metabolites that exhibited patterns of abundance change consistent with phenotype of HADA syndrome. Pathway enrichment analysis indicated a high influence of polyunsaturated fatty acids under high-altitude conditions. We compared the metabolites between R3 and r3 and found 107 metabolites with differential abundance involved in lipid metabolism and oxidation, suggesting their potential role in the regulation of oxidative stress homeostasis. Among them, four metabolites might play a key role in the occurrence of HADA, including 11-beta-hydroxyandrosterone-3-glucuronide, 5-methoxyindoleacetate, 9,10-epoxyoctadecenoic acid, and PysoPC (20:5). Conclusion: We observed the dynamic variation in the metabolic process of HADA. Levels of four metabolites, which might be provoking HADA mediated through lipid metabolism and oxidation, were expected to be explore prospective indices for HADA. Additionally, metabolomics was more efficient in identifying environmental risk factors than clinical examination when dramatic metabolic disturbances underlying the difference in symptoms were detected, providing new insights into the molecular mechanisms of HADAS.

BACKGROUND: This study sought to explore the clinical relevance of the associations of serum levels of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), soluble receptor for AGEs (sRAGE), and thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) with the renal fat fraction (RFF) in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: A total of 133 patients with T2DM were enrolled in the study. RFF, which represents the renal fat level, was determined utilizing Dixon magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Serum levels of AGEs, sRAGE, TXNIP, and other biochemical parameters were measured in patients who fasted. RESULTS: RFF in T2DM patients was positively correlated with the fasting levels of C-peptide (CP), triglycerides (TG), AGEs, TXNIP, and sRAGE (P < 0.05) and negatively correlated with the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) level (P < 0.05). Pearson's correlation analysis indicated that the serum levels of AGEs, sRAGE, and TXNIP were interrelated and positively correlated (P < 0.05). Then, all patients were assigned to four groups according to the RFF quartile. The HC, CP, TG, AGEs, sRAGE, TXNIP, and DKD percentages tended to increase as the RFF quartiles increased, while the HDL-c level tended to decrease (p for trend < 0.05). Next, multiple linear regression analysis was performed using RFF as the dependent variable. After controlling for covariates related to RFF, the results showed that the serum levels of AGEs and TXNIP were still significantly correlated with RFF. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that circulating AGEs and TXNIP levels may be associated with ectopic fat accumulation in the kidneys of T2DM patients and may serve as indicators of the severity of renal fat deposition.

The study determined the impacts of dietary fermented residues' (FBR) inclusion on growth, nutrient utilization, carcass characteristics, and meat properties in fattening pigs. Seventy-two robust pigs were randomly assigned to two experimental groups (Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire, thirty-six pigs each). Each group was subjected to a 52-day trial, during which they received either a corn-soybean meal-based diet or diet enhanced with a 10% addition of FBR. Consequently, adding 10% FBR caused a significant decrease in the digestive utilization of crude dietary components in fattening pigs (p < 0.05) but showed no significant impact on the growth performance. Additionally, FBR inclusion increased the marbling scores (p < 0.05) and total antioxidant functions (p < 0.05) of muscle tissues, indicating improved meat quality. Gender affected backfat depth, with barrows showing thicker backfat depth. In conclusion, dietary supplementation with 10% FBR in finishing pigs influenced the meat quality by improving the marbling score and antioxidant performance while reducing digestibility without compromising growth performance.

The emitter-cavity strong coupling manifests crucial significance for exploiting quantum technology, especially in the scale of individual emitters. However, due to the small light-matter interaction cross-section, the single emitter-cavity strong coupling has been limited by its harsh requirement on the quality factor of the cavity and the local density of optical states. Herein, we present a strategy termed waveguide-assisted energy quantum transfer (WEQT) to improve the single emitter-cavity coupling strength by extending the interaction cross-section. Multiple ancillary emitters are optically linked by a waveguide, providing an indirect coupling channel to transfer the energy quantum between target emitter and cavity. An enhancement factor of coupling strength g ̃ / g > 10 can be easily achieved, which dramatically release the rigorous design of cavity. As an extension of concept, we further show that the ancillae can be used as controlling bits for a photon gate, opening up new degrees of freedom in quantum manipulation.

RESUMEN

Brain-computer interface (BCI) technology is rapidly advancing in medical research and application. As an emerging biomedical engineering technology, it has garnered significant attention in the clinical research of brain disease diagnosis and treatment, neurological rehabilitation, and mental health. However, BCI also raises several challenges and ethical concerns in clinical research. In this article, the authors investigate and discuss three aspects of BCI in medicine and healthcare: the state of international ethical governance, multidimensional ethical challenges pertaining to BCI in clinical research, and suggestive concerns for ethical review. Despite the great potential of frontier BCI research and development in the field of medical care, the ethical challenges induced by itself and the complexities of clinical research and brain function have put forward new special fields for ethics in BCI. To ensure "responsible innovation" in BCI research in healthcare and medicine, the creation of an ethical global governance framework and system, along with special guidelines for cutting-edge BCI research in medicine, is suggested.

BACKGROUND: Plant microbiota contributes to plant growth and health, including enhancing plant resistance to various diseases. Despite remarkable progress in understanding diseases resistance in plants, the precise role of rhizosphere microbiota in enhancing watermelon resistance against soil-borne diseases remains unclear. Here, we constructed a synthetic community (SynCom) of 16 core bacterial strains obtained from the rhizosphere of grafted watermelon plants. We further simplified SynCom and investigated the role of bacteria with synergistic interactions in promoting plant growth through a simple synthetic community. RESULTS: Our results demonstrated that the SynCom significantly enhanced the growth and disease resistance of ungrafted watermelon grown in non-sterile soil. Furthermore, analysis of the amplicon and metagenome data revealed the pivotal role of Pseudomonas in enhancing plant health, as evidenced by a significant increase in the relative abundance and biofilm-forming pathways of Pseudomonas post-SynCom inoculation. Based on in vitro co-culture experiments and bacterial metabolomic analysis, we selected Pseudomonas along with seven other members of the SynCom that exhibited synergistic effects with Pseudomonas. It enabled us to further refine the initially constructed SynCom into a simplified SynCom comprising the eight selected bacterial species. Notably, the plant-promoting effects of simplified SynCom were similar to those of the initial SynCom. Furthermore, the simplified SynCom protected plants through synergistic effects of bacteria. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that the SynCom proliferate in the rhizosphere and mitigate soil-borne diseases through microbial synergistic interactions, highlighting the potential of synergistic effects between microorganisms in enhancing plant health. BACKGROUND: TSH and ACTH are crucial hormones for diagnosing thyroid and adrenal diseases, and incorrect test reports can cause significant harm to patients. METHODS: The TSH and ACTH levels on the testing system of our laboratory were measured using "sandwich" assays. The patient had heterophilic antibodies in their body, causing a false increase in TSH and ACTH levels. RESULTS: TSH on the Abbott platform was 59.7 µIU/mL and on the Roche platform it was 4.33 µIU/mL. After pretreatment with HBR it was 3.95 µIU/mL; ACTH on the SIEMENS platform was 263.5 pg/mL, on the Abbott platform it was 47.6 pg/mL. After pretreatment with HBR it was 36.5 pg/mL. CONCLUSIONS: The patient's serum contains heterophilic antibodies, which interfere with the TSH and ACTH tested by this method.

BACKGROUND: Post-marketing surveillance found montelukast use was associated with an increased risk of depression. However, results of observational studies are inconsistent. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess whether montelukast exposure is associated with depression and elucidate the possible molecular mechanism. METHOD: We conducted a cross-sectional study of 9508 adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007-2016. Multivariable regression was used to evaluate the association between montelukast exposure and depression. Network pharmacology was conducted to identify the mechanisms of montelukast on depression. RESULTS: Montelukast exposure had a higher prevalence of depression (37.4 %). In a multivariable logistic regression model adjusted for sociodemographic, behavioural, and health characteristics, montelukast exposure was associated with depression (odds ratio [OR]: 1.61; confidence interval [CI]: 1.18-2.19). Network pharmacology was identified 69 key targets of montelukast on depression. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis suggested montelukast mainly works through multiple pathways in endocrine resistance, chemical carcinogenesis-receptor activation, estrogen signaling pathway, etc. LIMITATIONS: Cross-sectional data. CONCLUSIONS: The study implies a potential positive association between long-term montelukast exposure and depression through multi-faceted mechanisms. It is suggested that attention be given to the possibility of depression in patients undergoing prolonged montelukast therapy.

BACKGROUND: Tamoxifen (TAM) is recommended as the first-line strategy for men with estrogen receptor (ER)-positive early breast cancer who are candidates for adjuvant endocrine therapy in ASCO guideline. Our study aims to analyze the cost-effectiveness of receiving adjuvant endocrine therapy with TAM compared to no TAM, and to assess the cost-effectiveness of using TAM with high adherence over low adherence for ER-positive early male breast cancer in the USA. METHODS: Two Markov models comprising three mutually exclusive health states were constructed: (1) the first Markov model compared the cost-effectiveness of adding TAM with not using TAM (TAM versus Not-TAM); (2) the second model compared the cost-effectiveness of receiving TAM with high adherence and low adherence (High-adherence-TAM versus Low-adherence-TAM). The simulation time horizon for both models was the lifetime of patients. The efficacy and safety data of two models were elicited from the real-world studies. Model inputs were derived from the US website and published literature. The main outcomes of two models both included the total cost, quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs), and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs). RESULTS: In the first model, TAM yielded an ICER of $5707.29 per QALY compared to Not-TAM, which was substantially below the WTP threshold of $50,000.00 per QALY in the USA. Probabilistic sensitivity analysis results demonstrated a 100.00% probability of cost-effectiveness for this strategy. In the second model, High-adherence-TAM was dominated absolutely compared to Low-adherence-TAM. The High-adherence-TAM was cost-effective with a 99.70% probability over Low-adherence-TAM when WTP was set as $50,000.00/QALY. All of these parameters within their plausible ranges did not reversely change the results of our models. CONCLUSIONS: Our study will offer valuable guidance for physicians or patients when making treatment decisions and provide an effective reference for decision-making to consider the appropriate allocation of funds to this special group.
