Endometriosis, identified by the abnormal growth of endometrial cells beyond the inner lining of the uterus, often manifests through symptoms like painful menstruation and challenges in conceiving. Observational studies suggest that endometriosis is often comorbid with mental disorders, including anxiety and depression. The nature of these connections, whether they are causal, is still debated and calls for further empirical evidence. We utilized a bidirectional 2-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach, harnessing genome-wide association study data to explore the connections among depression, anxiety, neuroticism, and endometriosis. To scrutinize the causative connections between mental health issues and endometriosis, Inverse Variance Weighting (IVW) was employed as the primary analytical tool, complemented by Weighted Median Estimation, Simple mode, Weighted mode, and MR-Egger regression for additional analysis. To examine the potential for reverse causation, reverse MR was applied. To strengthen the reliability of our findings, we carried out sensitivity analyses that included heterogeneity tests, tests for pleiotropy, and leave-one-out analyses. The IVW analysis revealed a significant correlation between the genetic inclination towards depression and a heightened risk of developing endometriosis [Odds Ratio (OR)â =â 1.151, 95% Confidence Interval (CI)â =â 1.025-1.293, Pâ =â .017]. Similarly, a genetic predisposition to neuroticism was significantly associated with an increased risk of endometriosis (ORâ =â 1.128, 95% CIâ =â 1.038-1.226, Pâ =â .004). However, no causative link was found between genetic susceptibility to anxiety and the occurrence of endometriosis. Reverse MR analysis did not support a bidirectional genetic susceptibility between endometriosis and psychiatric disorders. The MR analysis presents genetic data supporting the notion that depression and neuroticism are risk factors for endometriosis. Conversely, it found no evidence of a causal connection between anxiety and the development of endometriosis. Enhancing mental health treatment should be considered a preventive measure against endometriosis.

Background and aim: The most effective among the acupoints remains to be determined for treating diabetic gastroparesis (DGP). This study aimed to compare single and combination acupoints for their effectiveness in DGP. Experimental procedure: A prospective, patient-assessor-blinded randomised controlled trial was designed to compare the efficacy of 8-week acupuncture at a single acupoint (Zhongwan, CV-12), combination acupoints (Zhongwan, CV-12 and Zusanli, ST-36), and a sham-acupoint, in 99 adults with DGP. The primary clinical outcome was measured using the Gastroparesis Cardinal Symptom Index (GCSI), while barium meal examination, fasting plasma glucose, the 2-h plasma glucose, short-form health survey (SF-36), and GCSI subscales were performed for evaluating secondary clinical outcomes. These results were analysed by two factorial analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, Chi-Square, Fisher Exact, Kruskal-Wallis tests and Tukey's Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test. Results: After randomization, 97 patients completed the study. GCSI scores of all groups decreased during both post-treatment and the follow-up period, they were statistically significant compared to the baseline period (p < 0.01), but there was no significant difference among the groups (p > 0.05) during the post-treatment period. GCSI scores improved more in the combination acupoints group than in the single acupoint group which was better than the sham group after treatment. During the follow-up period, the same trend was observed. Conclusions: Among patients with DGP, the combination acupoints were more beneficial compared with single and sham acupoints. A large outbreak of monkeypox occurred in 2022, and most people lack immunity to orthopoxvirus. Smallpox vaccination is essential for preventing further smallpox outbreaks. This study evaluated the effectiveness, protection, safety, and cross-immunogenicity of smallpox vaccine in preventing monkeypox infection. PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched from database inception to 10 March 2024. We included studies involving "monkeypox virus" and "vaccinations", and excluded reviews, animal studies, and articles with missing or duplicate data. A total of 37 studies with 57,693 participants were included in the final analysis. The effectiveness data showed that monkeypox infection rates were lower in the smallpox-vaccinated group than in the unvaccinated group (risk ratio [RR]: 0.46; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.31-0.68). The protection data showed that smallpox vaccination effectively reduced the risk of severe monkeypox infection (RR: 0.61; 95% CI: 0.42-0.87). Third-generation vaccines showed greater efficacy (RR: 0.36, 95% CI: 0.22-0.56) than first-generation vaccines. The number of doses of smallpox vaccine has no significant effect on monkeypox. Safety data showed that adverse reactions after smallpox vaccination were mainly mild and included local erythema, swelling, induration, itching, and pain. Meanwhile, we found that smallpox vaccination could induce the production of neutralizing antibodies against monkeypox. Our findings offer compelling evidence supporting the clinical application of the smallpox vaccine for preventing monkeypox and advocate that high-risk groups should be prioritized for receiving one dose of the smallpox vaccine if the vaccine stockpile is low.

Graphene-based warm uterus acupoint paste (GWUAP) is an emerging non-drug alternative therapy for the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea (PD), but the underlying mechanism is still unclear. SD female rats were randomly divided into control group, model group and treatment group to explore the mechanism of GWUAP in the treatment of PD. Combined with 16S rDNA and fecal metabolomics, the diversity of microbiota and metabolites in each group was comprehensively evaluated. In this study, GWUAP reduced the torsion score of PD model rats, improved the pathological morphology of uterine tissue, reduced the pathological damage score of uterine tissue, and reversed the expression levels of inflammatory factors, pain factors and sex hormones. The 16 S rDNA sequencing of fecal samples showed that the abundance of Lactobacillus in the intestinal flora of the model group decreased and the abundance of Romboutsia increased, while the abundance of Lactobacillus in the intestinal flora of the treatment group increased and the abundance of Romboutsia decreased, which improved the imbalance of flora diversity in PD rats. In addition, 32 metabolites related to therapeutic effects were identified by metabolomics of fecal samples. Moreover, there is a close correlation between fecal microbiota and metabolites. Therefore, the mechanism of GWUAP in the treatment of PD remains to be further studied.

OBJECTIVE: The present study aims to investigate the specific protective effects and underlying mechanisms of Ganshuang granule (GSG) on dimethylnitrosamine (DMN)-induced hepatic fibrosis in rat models. METHODS: Hepatic fibrosis was experimentally evoked in rats by DMN administration, and varying dosages of GSG were employed as an intervention. Hepatocellular damage was assessed by measuring serum levels of aminotransferase and bilirubin, accompanied by histopathological examinations of hepatic tissue. The hepatic concentrations of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1) were quantitated via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) within hepatic tissue was evaluated using immunohistochemical techniques. The levels of hepatic interferon-γ (IFN-γ), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and a spectrum of interleukins (IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10) were quantified by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Additionally, hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) were cultured in vitro and exposed to TNF-α in the presence of naringin, a principal component of GSG. The gene expression levels of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) and matrix metallopeptidase-1 (MMP-1) in these cells were also quantified by qRT-PCR. Proliferative activity of HSCs was evaluated by the Cell Counting Kit-8 assay. Finally, alterations in Smad protein expression were analyzed through Western blotting. RESULTS: Administration of GSG in rats with fibrosis resulted in reduced levels of serum aminotransferases and bilirubin, along with alleviation of histopathological liver injury. Furthermore, the fibrosis rats treated with GSG exhibited significant downregulation of hepatic TGF-ß1, PDGF, and TNF-α levels. Additionally, GSG treatment led to increased mRNA levels of IFN-γ, IL-2, and IL-4, as well as decreased expression of α-SMA in the liver. Furthermore, treatment with naringin, a pivotal extract of GSG, resulted in elevated expression of MMP-1 and decreased levels of TIMP-1 in TNF-α-stimulated HSCs when compared to the control group. Additionally, naringin administration led to a reduction in Smad expression within the HSCs. CONCLUSION: GSG has the potential to mitigate fibrosis induced by DMN in rat models through the regulation of inflammatory and fibrosis factors. Notably, naringin, the primary extract of GSG, may exert a pivotal role in modulating the TGF-ß-Smad signaling pathway.

The current work introduces the synthesis of inorganic salt nano/micro-crystals during the reduction of hydrogen tetrachloroaurate(III) by Pluronic triblock copolymers (P123, PEO20-PPO70-PEO20). The morphologies and component were confirmed using an electron microscope with an electronic differential system (EDS), and the crystal structures were determined with X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphologies highly depend on the concentrations of Pluronic and pH values. The mean size of the nanocrystal and hollow micro-crystal were controlled typically in the range of 32-150 nm (side length) and 1.4 µm, respectively. Different from the electrospray-ionization (EI) method, a model in which KCl forms a supersaturated solution in the micellar core of Pluronic is used to explain the formation process. This work provides the new insight that inorganic salt nanocrystals could be synthesized with the template of micelles in pure aqueous solutions.

The recovery of precious metals, such as palladium (Pd), from wastewater, is an economically important field. The present study reports the application of polyglycidyl methacrylate (PGMA) macroporous spheres with diethylaminoethyl (DEAE) functional groups (PGMA-DEAE) for the adsorption of palladium ions [Pd(II)] from simulated wastewater solutions. The effects of pH, adsorption duration, and initial concentration of Pd(II) on the adsorption amount were evaluated systematically. The results revealed that within the experimental pH range, the adsorption efficiency of Pd(II) increased with increasing pH. In particular, between pH 4 and 6, the Pd(II) adsorption efficiencies were approximately 100%. At 298 K and pH â¼ 4, the adsorption capacity of PGMA-DEAE for Pd(II) was 1.22 mmol/g. The adsorption rates of PGMA-DEAE for Pd(II) were high, and the adsorption equilibrium was reached within 10 min. Ca(II), Mg(II), Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Fe(II) were selected as representative competitive adsorption metal ions. PGMA-DEAE had good separation selectivity for Pd(II) at pH 1-6 (all RPd/Me > 30), especially at pH â¼ 4 (all RPd/Me > 100). The SEM, TEM, EDS, TG, XRD, and XPS results indicated that in a high-acidity environment (CHCl ≥ 1 mol/L), Pd(II) was adsorbed on PGMA-DEAE through electrostatic attraction, while in a low-acidity environment (pH 1-6), Pd(II) was adsorbed on PGMA-DEAE through coordinated bonding between the Pd(II) ions and the N. PGMA-DEAE exhibited excellent stability and regeneration performance for five regeneration cycles.

A new pimarane-type diterpene, ent-8(14),15-pimaradiene-2ß,19-diol (JXE-23), was isolated from the fern plant Aleuritopteris albofusca by our previous work; however, the biological activity of this diterpene remains unclear. In the present study, the anti-cancer potential of JXE-23 in various cancer cells was investigated. Among MCF-7 breast cancer cells, A549 lung cancer cells, and HepG2 liver cancer cells, JXE-23 displayed significant cytotoxicity to HepG2 cells with an IC50 value of 17.20 ± 1.73 µM, while showing no obvious toxicity in normal hepatocytes HL7702. JXE-23 inhibited cell growth and colony formation in HepG2 cells. A cell cycle distribution analysis showed that JXE-23 caused G2/M cell cycle arrest. Besides, JXE-23 also suppressed the migration of HepG2 cells. Interestingly, an increase of light chain 3 II (LC3II) and Beclin 1 and a decrease of P62 have occurred in JXE-23-treated cells, as well as the formation of GFP-LC3 dots, indicative of autophagy induction by JXE-23. When combined with autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine and chloroquine, the cell viability was significantly reduced, suggesting that JXE-23 triggered protective autophagy in hepatoma cells. Further study showed that JXE-23 inactivated the CIP2A/p-AKT/c-Myc signaling axis in HepG2 cells. Our data provided evidence that JXE-23 inhibited cell growth, arrested cells at the G2/M phase, and induced protective autophagy in HepG2 hepatocellular carcinoma cells. JXE-23 may be a potential lead compound for anti-cancer drug development, and autophagy inhibitor treatment may provide an effective strategy for improving its anti-cancer effect.

Primary dysmenorrhea is a common gynecological disease with typical clinical symptoms and diverse treatment methods. Acupoint patch therapy is one of the traditional external treatments of traditional Chinese medicine, with a long history, and has been widely used in the treatment of many diseases in China. Graphene nuangong acupoint plaster (GNGAP) developed based on traditional acupoints and new materials have been used in the clinical treatment of primary dysmenorrhea, and satisfactory therapeutic effects have been achieved. However, the underlying mechanisms of GNGAP still need further investigation. In this study, we used estradiol benzoate combined with oxytocin intraperitoneally to establish dysmenorrhea model rats, and observed the torsion response, uterine organ coefficients, prostaglandin levels and metabolite changes of rats with dysmenorrhea model after the intervention of GNGAP, to elucidate the mechanism of the effect of GNGAP. Compared with normal rats, the dysmenorrhea model rats exhibited increased writhing response and latency time, increased uterine organ coefficient, and significant changes in 79 metabolites. Twenty-three significantly enriched pathways were discovered, including amino acid metabolism, arachidonic acid metabolism, pyrimidine metabolism, and ovarian steroidogenesis, which may be involved in the pathogenesis of primary dysmenorrhea. Compared with the model group, the torsion response, latency time and uterine organ coefficient of rats in the acupoint patch group were significantly improved, and nine uterine metabolites were significantly altered, among which metabolites such as 4-pyridoxic acid, d-glucarate and Phenol were identified as potential biomarkers for the therapeutic effects of GNGAP. Vitamin B6 metabolism, Ascorbate and aldarate metabolism and Tyrosine metabolism were enriched in nine metabolic pathways. These findings contribute to the screening study of potential pathological metabolic pathways in primary dysmenorrhea. Additionally, they reveal the biological effects of GNGAP in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea at the metabolite level.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effects of graphene-based warm uterus acupoint paste on uterine Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88)/nuclear transcription factor-kappa B p65 (NF-κB p65) signaling pathway and Th1/Th2 immune balance in primary dysmenorrhea ( PD ) model rats, so as to reveal its immunological mechanisms of relieving dysmenorrhea. METHODS: Thirty SD female rats were randomly divided into 3 groupsï¼normal group, model group and acupoint paste group, with 10 rats in each group. PD rat model was established by subcutaneous injection of estradiol benzoate for 10 consecutive days. At the same time of modeling, graphene-based warm uterus acupoint paste was applied to the acupoints of "Guanyuan" (CV4), bilateral "Zigong" (EX-CA1) and "Sanyinjiao" (SP6) of rats in the acupoint paste group. The application was continuously applied once daily for 10 d, 5 h each time. On the 11th day, oxytocin was injected intraperitoneally to observe the writhing latency, writhing times within 30 min and writhing score of rats in each group. The spleen and thymus indexes were calculated. The pathological changes of spleen and thymus tissue were observed after HE staining. The contents of serum immunoglobulin (Ig) A, IgG, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-2, interferon-γ (IFN-γ), IL-4 and IL-10 were detected by ELISA . The protein and mRNA expression levels of TLR4, MyD88 and NF-κB p65 in rat uterine tissue were detected by Western blot and real-time quantitative PCR, respectively. RESULTS: Compared with the normal group, the writhing times and writhing scores within 30 min of rats in the model group were significantly increased(P<0.001), and the rats showed writhing reaction (P<0.01). The spleen index and thymus index were significantly decreased(P<0.01, P<0.05). The spleen and thymus had obvious pathological changes. The contents of IgA, IgG, TNF-α, IL-2 and IFN-γ in serum were significantly increased, while the contents of serum IL-4 and IL-10 were significantly decreased(P<0.001, P<0.01). The expression levels of TLR4, MyD88, NF-κB p65 protein and corresponding mRNA in uterine tissue were significantly increased(P<0.001). Following intervention, compared with the model group, the writhing latency time of rats in the acupoint paste group was prolonged, and the writhing times and writhing scores within 30 min were significantly decreased (P<0.001). The spleen index and thymus index were significantly increased(P<0.01, P<0.05). The pathological changes of spleen and thymus were improved. The contents of serum IgA, IgG, TNF-α, IL-2 and IFN-γ were significantly decreased, while the contents of IL-4 and IL-10 were significantly increased(P<0.001, P<0.05, P<0.01). The expression of TLR4, MyD88, NF-κB p65 protein and the corresponding mRNA levels in uterine tissue were decreased(P<0.001, P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Graphene-based warm uterus acupoint paste can regulate the immune balance of Th1/ Th2 by regulating TLR4/ MyD88/ NF-κB p65 signaling pathway, repair the pathological damage of immune tissue, improve immune function, and effectively relieve the pain symptoms of PD rats.

By summarizing and exploring the theoretic connotation, key of functions and effect mechanism of acupoint compatibility, the effect of acupoint compatibility is concluded as the increase of "effect value" and the expansion of "effect domain". The increase of "effect value" is the concrete embodiment by the value of medical assessment scale, the value of objective index detection in clinical trial and the value of index detection in experiment research. The expansion of "effect domain" is the increase of effect target and the extension of effect scope. The paper interprets the scientific connotation of acupoint compatibility therapy from a new perspective, and emphasizes the innovative approaches to research while bringing forth new ideas on the research method. It is anticipated that a novel breakthrough can be achieved in the study of acupoint compatibility and the improvement of acupuncture-moxibustion efficacy.

Acupuncture therapy, as a characteristic of Chinese medical therapy, has a long history and remarkable effect in the treatment of gynecological diseases, and so far, it has formed a complete treatment system, but its efficacy and mechanism of action remain unclear. Functional magnetic resonance imaging, a visual technique, provides an objective basis for the study of acupuncture in the treatment of gynecological diseases. This paper summarizes the current status of acupuncture in the treatment of gynecological diseases and summarizes the progress of functional magnetic resonance imaging research related to acupuncture in the treatment of gynecological diseases in the past 10 years, mainly including the common types of gynecological diseases in acupuncture clinics, and the commonly used acupuncture points. This study is expected to provide literature support for subsequent research on the central mechanisms of acupuncture in the treatment of gynecological diseases.

BACKGROUND: Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic recurrent gastrointestinal disorder with a high incidence of inflammation due to intestinal inflammation. Acupuncture is commonly used as an alternative therapy for patients with CD. The aim of this study was to design a systematic review and meta-analysis protocol, to provide guidance for the establishment of systematic evaluation and meta-analysis on the efficacy and safety of acupuncture on CD. METHODS: We will search PubMed, the Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, and 4 Chinese databases: China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang database, VIP database, and Chinese Biomedical Database to obtain randomized controlled trials of CD treated with acupuncture from inception to November 5, 2022. Primary outcome include CD symptoms severity and clinical efficacy, secondary outcome indicators include laboratory indicators or inflammatory markers, severity of endoscopic lesions, quality of life, and safety outcomes. We will analyze the data using RevMan V.5.4 software. Two reviewers will assess the risk of bias and study quality by the Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Tool and GRADE methods, respectively. RESULTS: This systematic review and meta-analysis protocol will analyze the efficacy, symptom improvement, quality of life, and safety of acupuncture therapy for CD. CONCLUSION: This protocol outlines the planned scope and methodology of a forthcoming systematic review and meta-analysis to provide guidelines for a rigorous assessment of the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for the treatment of CD.

BACKGROUND: Uterine contraction pain is a common postpartum condition that often plagues mothers and can interfere with feeding and normal life for young children. Many investigations have demonstrated that moxibustion has certain advantages in the treatment of uterine contraction pain, but the effectiveness, safety, and advantages of various methods have not been confirmed by high-quality meta-analyses. This study will conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the safety and effectiveness in moxibustion, in order to provide a reference for further clinical treatment for uterine contraction pain. METHODS: Nine electronic databases, including PubMed, Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, Wan-Fang Database and 1 clinical trial register platforms: ClinicalTrials.gov (www.ClinicalTrials.gov/) will be searched using English and Chinese search strategies. All eligible studies are randomized controlled trials of moxibustion treatment for uterine contraction pain, published on or before December 31, 2021. The screening process will be developed by 2 independent authors, and network meta-analysis will be performed with RevMan (V5.3) software. RESULTS: This study will provide a high-quality review that will be used to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of moxibustion for the treatment of uterine contraction pain. CONCLUSION: The results of this study will provide evidence to support whether moxibustion can effectively intervene in uterine contraction pain.

BACKGROUND: Myopia are common health problems that people experience in daily life. Pediatric myopia has become a major international public health concern that has a negative impact on physical, mental health of patients, and quality of life. Currently, there is no cure available. Press needle as an adjuvant therapy is currently undergoing clinical trials in different medical centers. However, no relevant systematic review or meta-analysis has been designed to evaluate the effects of press needle patching on early myopia. There is also a lack of systematic evaluation and analysis of acupoints and thumbtack needle. METHODS: We will electronically search Medline, Embase, PubMed, Web of Science, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Scientific Journal Database, and Wan-Fang Database from their inception to October 2021. In addition, we will manually retrieve other resources including the reference lists of identified publications, conference articles, and gray literature. The clinical randomized controlled trials or quasi-randomized controlled trials related to press needle for the treatment of early myopia will be included in the study. The language is limited to Chinese and English. Research selection, data extraction, and research quality assessment will be independently completed by 2 researchers. Data were synthesized by using afixed effect model or random effect model depend on the heterogeneity test. The total effective rate was the primary outcomes. RevMan V.5.3 statistical software will be used for meta-analysis. If it is not appropriate for a meta-analysis, then a descriptive analysis will be conducted. Data synthesis will use the risk ratio and the standardized or weighted average difference of continuous data to represent the results. RESULTS: This study will analyze the clinical effective rate, pesudomyopia outcomes, quality of life, improvement of clinical symptoms of pesudomyopia, and validity of thumbtack needle for patients with pesudomyopia. CONCLUSION: This systematic review will provide evidence to judge whether thumbtack needle is an effective intervention for patients with early myopia. BACKGROUND: Acupuncture may be a clinically effective treatment for insomnia. We will perform a multicenter, large-scale, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial to compare the differences in the clinical efficacy between the use of singleacupoints and compatibilityacupoints in the treatment of primary insomnia. METHODS/DESIGN: A total of 333 participants will be randomly assigned to 2 acupoint treatment groups or 1 nonacupoint control group in a 1:1:1 ratio by a central stochastic system. The acupuncture groups are: the single acupoint group: Shenmen (HT7); and he compatibility acupoint group: Shenmen (HT7), Baihui (DU20), and Sanyinjiao (SP6). The observation period of this trial will be 10âweeks. All patients will be followed for 1âweek before randomization (baseline phase). After randomization, the patients will receive 30 minutes of electro-acupuncture once per day for 5âweeks. In the fourth week after the treatment, follow-up will be performed once. The primary outcome will be the Pittsburgh sleep quality index score at 1âweek before randomization and 2 and 8âweeks after randomization. The secondary outcomes will include data from sleep diaries, Athens insomnia scale scores, ShortForm-36 Health Survey scores, electroencephalogram technology results and polysomnogram) results. Patients will be required to complete a sleep diary every day during the treatment period. Patients will also undergo electroencephalogram technology and polysomnogram 1âweek before randomization and 5âweeks after randomization. The other secondary outcomes will be measured 1âweek before randomization and 5 and 9âweeks after randomization. DISCUSSION: This trial will be helpful in identifying whether acupuncture at compatibility acupoints is more effective than acupuncture at single acupoints. BACKGROUND: Functional dyspepsia (FD) has gradually developed into a multiple disease of the digestive system that most patients may be accompanied by mental and emotional disorders, such as insomnia, anxiety, and depression. Acupoint herbal patching (AHP) is usually used as an alternative therapy for patients with FD. This study aimed to design a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the effects of AHP on FD. METHODS: We will search the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, the Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database, the Wan-Fang Database, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure for randomized controlled trials of FD treated by AHP from inception to June 30, 2021. The primary outcome measures contain clinical effective rate, the symptom score of FD, and secondary outcome measures consist of quality of life, incidence of adverse events, and recurrence rate. We will use RevMan V.5.3 software to analyze data. Two reviewers will evaluate the risk of bias and the quality of the studies by the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool and the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach, separately. RESULTS: This systematic review protocol will analyze the effectiveness, quality of life, improvement of the symptom, and safety of AHP therapy for FD. CONCLUSION: The findings of this systematic review will provide evidence to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of AHP for FD.

BACKGROUND: Functional diarrhea (FDr), one of the most common functional gastrointestinal diseases, is a kind of functional bowel disease characterized by repeated paste feces or watery feces. However, no relevant systematic review or meta-analysis has been designed to evaluate the effects of herbal acupoint application (HAA) on FDr. There is also a lack of systematic evaluation and analysis of acupoints and herbs. METHODS: We will search the following 8 databases from their inception to October 15, 2021, without language restrictions: the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Embase, the Web of Science, the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database, the Wan-Fang Database, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure. The primaryoutcome measures will be clinical effective rate, functional outcomes, and quality of life. Data that meets the inclusion criteria will be extracted and analyzed using RevMan V.5.3 software (Available at: https://community.cochrane.org/help/tools-and-software/revman-5). Two reviewers will evaluate the studies using the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool. We will use the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach to assess the overall quality of evidence supporting the primary outcomes. We will also use SPASS software (Version 19.0 (Available at: https://www.ibm.com/analytics/spss-statistics-software)) for complex network analysis to explore the potential core prescription of acupoint herbal patching for FDr. RESULTS: This study will analyze the clinical effective rate, bristol stool scale, number of daily bowel movements, clinical symptom scale of diarrhea, and effective prescriptions of HAA for patients with FDr. CONCLUSION: The conclusion of our findings will provide evidence for the effectiveness and potential treatment prescriptions of HAA for patients with FDr.

BACKGROUND: Sleep deprivation (SD) among young adults is a major public health concern. In humans, it has adverse effects on mood and results in serious health problems. Faced with SD, persons may take precautionary measures to try and reduce their risk. The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture (EA) for the prevention of negative moods after SD. In addition, we will do a comparison of the effects of EA on mood after SD at different time points. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial (RCT) will be performed at the First Affiliated Hospital of Changchun University of Chinese Medicine in China. The Standards for Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture 2010 will be strictly adhered to. Forty-two healthy male volunteers will be distributed into acupoints electroacupuncture (AE) group, non-acupoints electroacupuncture (NAE) control group, or blank control group. This trial will comprise 1-week baseline (baseline sleep), 1-week preventative treatment, 30-h total sleep deprivation (TSD), and 24-h after waking follow-up period. Participants in the AE group and the NAE control group during the preventative treatment period will be administered with EA treatment once daily for 1 week. Participants in the blank control group will not be administered with any treatment. The primary outcome will be the Profile of Mood States (POMS) Scale. Secondary outcome measures will include changes in the Noldus FaceReader (a tool for automatic analysis of facial expressions) and Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) Scale. Total sleep deprivation will be 30 h. During the 30-h TSD period, participants will be subjected to 11 sessions of assessment. Adverse events will be recorded. DISCUSSION: This study is designed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of EA for the prevention of negative moods after SD. The results of this trial will allow us to compare the effects of EA on mood after SD at different time points. Moreover, the findings from this trial will be published in peer-reviewed journals. BACKGROUND: Gastric ulcer (GU) is a clinically common disease of the digestive system that adversely affects patients' quality of life and work ability. Although some articles have reported that acupuncture can improve the clinical symptoms of GU, the efficacy of acupuncture has not been scientifically or methodically evaluated. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for the treatment of patients with gastric ulcers. METHODS: The following electronic databases will be searched from the respective dates of database inception to March 23, 2021: The Cochrane Library, Web of Science, EMBASE, MEDLINE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Wanfang database, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database, and other sources. Randomized controlled trials comparing acupuncture with other interventions or sham acupuncture were included. Two independent researchers will perform article retrieval, duplication removal, screening, quality evaluation, and data analyses by Review Manager (V.5.3.5). Meta-analyzes, subgroup analysis, and/or descriptive analyses will be performed based on the included data conditions. RESULTS: The protocol of this study systematically assessed the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for gastric ulcer patients. The primary outcome was the effective rate, and the secondary outcomes included negative conversing rate of Helicobacter pylori infection, untoward effect, recurrence rate, quality of life, and symptom scores. CONCLUSION: This study provides evidence of whether acupuncture is an effective and safe intervention for gastric ulcers. PROSPERO REGISTRATION NUMBER: CRD42021251067.
