RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Aflibercept is a biopharmaceutical targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) that has shown promise in the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic macular edema (DME) in adults. Quality control studies of aflibercept employing non-reduced SDS-PAGE (nrSDS-PAGE) have shown that a significant variant band (IM1) is consistently present below the main band. Considering the quality control strategy of biopharmaceuticals, structural elucidation and functional studies are required. METHODS: In this study, the variant bands in nrSDS-PAGE were collected through electroelution and identified by peptide mass fingerprinting based on liquid chromatography-tandem MS (LC-MS/MS). This variant was expressed using knob-into-hole (KIH) design transient transfection for the detection of ligand affinity, binding activity and biological activity. RESULTS: The variant band was formed by C-terminal truncation at position N99 of one chain in the aflibercept homodimer. Then, this variant was successfully expressed using KIH design transient transfection. The ligand affinity of the IM1 truncated variant was reduced by 18-fold, and neither binding activity nor biological activity were detected. CONCLUSIONS: The efficacy of aflibercept is influenced by the loss of biological activity of the variant. Therefore, this study supports the development of a quality control strategy for aflibercept.

RESUMEN

Accurate measurement of the infrared spectral emissivity of nickel-based alloys is significant for applications in aerospace. The low thermal conductivity of these alloys limits the accuracy of direct emissivity measurement, especially during the oxidation process. To improve measurement accuracy, a surface temperature correction method based on two thermocouples was proposed to eliminate the effect of thermal conductivity changes on emissivity measurement. By using this method, the infrared spectral emissivity of Inconel 601, Inconel 625, and Inconel 718 alloys was accurately measured during the oxidation process, with a temperature range of 673-873 K, a wavelength range of 3-20 µm, and a zenith angle range of 0-80°. The results show that the emissivity of the three alloys is similar in value and variation law; the emissivity of Inconel 718 is slightly less than that of Inconel 601 and Inconel 625; and the spectral emissivity of the three alloys strongly increases in the first hour, whereafter it grows gradually with the increase in oxidation time. Finally, Inconel 601 has a lower emissivity growth rate, which illustrates that it possesses stronger oxidation resistance and thermal stability. The maximum relative uncertainty of the emissivity measurement of the three alloys does not exceed 2.6%, except for the atmospheric absorption wavebands.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: To investigate the morphologic features of iris in the highly myopic (HM) eyes using a novel swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT). METHODS: In this retrospective case-control study, 100 eyes of 100 patients scheduled to have cataract surgery were included, categorized into the control (22 mm< AL < 24.5 mm) and HM (AL ≥ 26 mm) groups. Iris volume (IV), area of anterior iris surface (IS), area of posterior IS, and average iris thickness (IT), as well as anterior chamber volume (ACV) and trabecular-iris space at 500 µm (TISA 500) were evaluated using SS-OCT. The associated factors with morphologic features of iris were also investigated. RESULTS: The HM group showed significantly larger IV and area of anterior and posterior IS than the control group (all P < 0.001), while no difference was identified in IT between the groups. Similar trend in IV was seen in the superior and nasal segments, and area of anterior and posterior IS showed similar trends in all segments except the temporal segment. The IV, area of anterior and posterior IS were all positively correlated with AL (all P < 0.001). Multivariate linear regression revealed that a larger IV was associated with greater ACV. Both larger areas of anterior IS and posterior IS were associated with male, longer AL, greater ACV, and smaller TISA 500. CONCLUSIONS: The HM eyes showed larger IV and area of IS than the control eyes, indicating a coronal expansion of the iris with AL. Iris morphology correlated with anterior chamber angle configuration.

RESUMEN

Antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have emerged as a global concern, posing significant threats to human health and safety. Understanding the contamination levels and driving mechanisms behind ARG proliferation is urgently needed. Urban watersheds, influenced by human activities, serve as critical reservoirs for ARGs; however, the impact of urbanization on ARG spread of and the underlying driving mechanisms remain unclear. This study evaluates the diversity and abundance of ARGs in water and sediment samples from the Jialing River watershed in Chongqing City, China. The obtained results indicate that aminoglycoside and multidrug ARGs are the primary contributors to ARG presence in both sediments and water. Additionally, the diversity and abundance of ARGs are higher in water than in sediments. ARGs in watershed show a significant positive correlation with mobile genetic elements (MGEs). While environmental factors in urbanized watersheds affect ARG abundance and distribution to some extent, they are not the primary drivers. Urbanization itself emerges as a prominent factor influencing ARG diversity and abundance in river basins. Specifically, livestock, healthcare, and agriculture are identified as the main social factors influencing ARG proliferation in the highly urbanized areas of the Jialing River watershed. Further investigation into other contributing social factors, such as industrial development, is warranted. This study reveals the factors driving ARG distribution in urbanized watersheds, providing a foundation for future efforts to maintain ecological health in these environments.

RESUMEN

Electrostatic precipitators (ESPs) may enable high particle collection efficiency with minimal pressure drop in HVAC systems. However, studies of pathogen collection and inactivation in ESPs at medium to higher flow rates are limited. Here, a single-stage, wire-plate ESP operated at flow rates of 51 and 85 m3 h-1 was used to study the removal of virus-laden aerosol particles for three different airborne viruses: (1) bovine coronavirus (BCoV), (2) influenza A virus (IAV), and (3) porcine reproductive and respiratory virus (PRRSV). Size-resolved measurements of collection efficiency were obtained using Andersen cascade impactors (ACI) sampling upstream and downstream of the ESP. All measurements were analyzed based on three distinctive but complementary methods: (1) fluorimetry to assess physical collection, (2) RT-qPCR to assess viral RNA concentrations and (3) virus titration to assess virus viability. In general, log reductions by virus titration were highest followed by those from RT-qPCR, and last fluorimetry, suggesting that a portion of virus may be potentially inactivated in flight in the ESP. An effective migration (deposition) velocity ranging from 3.10 to 10.05 cm s-1 was also determined using the spatially resolved measurements of virus collection on the ESP plates.

RESUMEN

Background: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the result of multiple cycles of epithelial cell injury and fibroblast activation; currently, there is no clear etiology. Increasing evidence suggests that protein metabolism and amino acids play a crucial role in IPF, but the role of D-amino acids is not yet clear. The aim of this study was to identify novel mediators in order to test the hypothesis that D-amino acid oxidase (DAO) plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of IPF. Methods: We analyzed DAO gene expression in patients with IPF and mice with bleomycin (BLM)-induced lung fibrosis. We performed in vitro and in vivo assays to determine the effect of DAO on primary type II alveolar epithelial cells from mice and A549 cells. Results: DAO expression was downregulated in the lungs of IPF patients and BLM-induced fibrotic mice. Treatment with D-serine (D-Ser) or drug inhibition of DAO promoted cell senescence through the p53/p21 pathway. Dao -/- mice showed an intensified fibrotic response, and the anti-fibrotic role of T3 was abolished. Conclusion: We concluded that the DAO-p53/p21 axis might be a key anti-fibrotic pathway regulating the progress of fibrosis and facilitating the therapeutic role of T3.

RESUMEN

Developing bioactive materials with multifunctional properties is crucial for enhancing their biomedical applications in regenerative medicine. Bioactive glass nanoparticle (BGN) is a new generation of biomaterials that demonstrate high biocompatibility and tissue-inducing capacity. However, the hard nanoparticle surface and single surface property limited their wide biomedical applications. In recent years, the surface functional strategy has been employed to decorate the BGN and improve its biomedical applications in bone tissue repair, bioimaging, tumor therapy and wound repair. This review summarizes the progress of surface-interface design strategy, customized multifunctional properties and biomedical applications in detail. We also discussed the current challenges and further development of multifunctional BGN to meet the requirements of various biomedical applications.

RESUMEN

The need for equitable access to primary healthcare services in the current global context has attracted widespread attention, prompting nations to continuously enhance their grassroots medical service levels. In response, China launched the "Healthy China" initiative, which prioritizes the enhancement of national health as a core goal of the healthcare system and uses this opportunity to deepen reforms aimed at strengthening primary care. However, in remote and rural areas, the optimization of medical resource allocation and the achievement of balanced service development remain critical challenges owing to limited resources. This study selected Liannan Yao Autonomous County, which is situated in the northwestern corner of Guangdong Province, as a case study due to its remote mountainous location, underdeveloped economy, and minority region characteristics. Through field research and interviews, this study thoroughly explored the needs of both supply and demand, factoring in elements such as the service capability of healthcare facilities and residents' travel thresholds to enhance the two-step floating catchment area model, thus making it more applicable to remote villages. By integrating electric bikes and cars, which are the primary means of transportation in rural areas, this study conducted a thorough analysis and comparison of the accessibility of medical services in Liannan Yao Autonomous County (Liannan County) . The results reveal significant disparities in healthcare accessibility, an uneven distribution of medical resources, and varying impacts of transportation conditions and facility service capabilities on accessibility. Notably, the study revealed that improving transportation conditions alone has limited effects in rural areas; the key lies in balancing medical service capabilities and the rationality of overall layouts. From the perspectives of equity and efficiency, this study employs the equitable coverage model and the efficiency-driven model to construct two scenarios, comparing accessibility changes in Liannan County under both conditions and proposing strategies to improve the spatial layout of local healthcare facilities. This research not only deepens the understanding of healthcare service accessibility in rural areas but also provides a scientific basis for optimizing resource allocation and enhancing primary medical services, offering valuable guidance and reference for Liannan County and other similar rural regions.

RESUMEN

Transcrestal maxillary sinus floor elevation is an effective method to solve the problem of insufficient bone height in the posterior maxillary region. However, current methods, such as osteotome sinus floor elevation, cushioned grind-out technique, Smart Drill technique, etc., require specialized surgical tool boxes. In this article, we introduce a new method of transcrestal maxillary sinus elevation that uses built-in reamers of various implant systems to scrap residual bone at the sinus floor and uses the implant to push the sinus membrane during implant placement. This technique is easy to operate and time saving and has a low rate of sinus membrane perforation. After a one-year follow-up observation of 146 people and 175 implants, the endo-sinus bone gains were 5.00 (4.70, 5.30) mm and 2.10 (1.40, 2.70) mm in the group of 3 mm≤residual bone height (RBH)<5 mm and the group of 5 mm≤RBH<8 mm, respectively, which can meet the clinical requirements of implant stability. This technique is suitable in generalizing dental implantation.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the influence of inappropriate gestational weight gain (GWG) on pregnancy outcomes in twin pregnant women with in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included 2992 twin pregnant women and categorized the participants as follows: (i) they were classified into spontaneous conception (SC) or IVF groups based on whether they received IVF treatment, and (ii) they were categorized into inadequate, optimal, or excessive GWG groups according to the International Organization for Migration Twin Pregnancy Guidelines. Initially, the study investigated the separate effects of IVF treatment and different levels of GWG on the outcomes of twin pregnancies. Subsequently, after adjusting for confounding factors, multifactorial logistic regression analysis was performed to further investigate the impact of IVF treatment and high GWG on twin pregnancy outcomes. Based on this, the analysis was stratified by whether IVF was used to explore the effects of different GWG levels on each subgroup (those who underwent IVF and those who conceived spontaneously). Finally, potential multiplicative interactions between IVF and different GWG categories were examined to identify their combined effect on pregnancy outcomes. RESULTS: The results showed that women with twin gestations conceived via IVF exhibited significantly higher maternal age, pre-pregnancy body mass index, and a greater incidence of GWG beyond recommended guidelines compared to the SC group. Furthermore, both IVF treatment and inappropriate GWG increased the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, respectively. Following adjustments for confounding variables through multifactorial logistic regression, it was demonstrated that both IVF treatment and high GWG significantly elevated the risk of adverse outcomes in twin pregnancies, such as admission to the neonatal intensive care unit. It is noteworthy that inappropriate GWG, combined with IVF treatment, will stepwise increase the incidence of intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, respiratory failure, respiratory distress, pre-eclampsia, maternal intensive care unit admission, and postpartum hemorrhage risk. However, these outcomes were less affected by inappropriate GWG in the SC group. Lastly, this study did not unveil a significant interaction between the IVF procedure and disparate levels of GWG in relation to the adverse outcomes. CONCLUSION: A high incidence of inappropriate GWG in twin pregnancies with IVF treatment and inappropriate GWG conferred more adverse twin pregnancy outcomes in the IVF group relative to the SC group. This study indicates that proper management of GWG may be a breakthrough in reducing adverse outcomes in twin pregnancies associated with IVF. Therefore, implementing proactive interventions such as supervised exercise programs, prescribed physical or dietary plans, enhanced weight management, or personalized counseling, holds promise for lowering the risks associated with inappropriate GWG in twin pregnancies resulting from IVF.

RESUMEN

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a devastating stroke caused by ruptured intracranial aneurysms, leading to blood accumulation around the brain. Early brain injury (EBI) within 72 h post-SAH worsens prognosis, primarily due to intense neuroinflammation. Microglia, pivotal in central nervous system defense and repair, undergo M1 to M2 polarization post-SAH, with M1 exacerbating neuroinflammation. Propofol (PPF), an anesthetic with anti-inflammatory properties, shows promise in mitigating neuroinflammation in SAH by modulating microglial activation. It likely acts through microRNAs like miR-140-5p, which attenuates microglial activation and inflammation by targeting TREM-1 and the NF-κB pathway. Understanding these mechanisms could lead to new therapeutic approaches for SAH-related EBI. In this study, BV-2 cell was used to establish in vitro model of SAH, and the expression of miR-140-5p and TREM-1 was detected after modeling. Microglial activity, apoptosis, the inflammatory pathway and response, oxidative damage, and M1/M2 polarization of microglia were evaluated by drug administration or transfection according to experimental groups. Finally, the targeting relationship between miR-140-5p and TREM-1 was verified by dual luciferase reporter assays, and the effect of PPF on the miR-140-5p/TREM-1/NF-κB signaling cascade was evaluated by RT‒qPCR or Western blotting. PPF effectively mitigates apoptosis, neuroinflammation, oxidative damage, and M1 microglial polarization in SAH. In SAH cells, PPF upregulates miR-140-5p and downregulates TREM-1. Mechanistically, PPF boosts miR-140-5p expression, while TREM-1, a downstream target of miR-140-5p, inhibits NF-κB signaling by regulating TREM-1, promoting M1 to M2 microglial polarization. Reduced miR-140-5p or increased TREM-1 counters PPF's therapeutic impact on SAH cells. In conclusion, PPF plays a neuroprotective role in SAH by regulating the miR-140-5p/TREM-1/NF-κB signaling axis to inhibit neuroinflammation and M1 polarization of microglia.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Pain empathy represents a fundamental building block of several social functions, which have been demonstrated to be impaired across various mental disorders by accumulating evidence from case-control functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies. However, it remains unclear whether the dysregulations are underpinned by robust neural alterations across mental disorders. METHODS: This study utilized coordinate-based meta-analyses to quantitatively determine robust markers of altered pain empathy across mental disorders. To support the interpretation of the findings exploratory network-level and behavioral meta-analyses were conducted. RESULTS: Quantitative analysis of eleven case-control fMRI studies with data from 296 patients and 229 controls revealed patients with mental disorders exhibited increased pain empathic reactivity in the left anterior cingulate gyrus, adjacent medial prefrontal cortex, and right middle temporal gyrus, yet decreased activity in the left cerebellum IV/V and left middle occipital gyrus compared to controls. The hyperactive regions showed network-level interactions with the core default mode network (DMN) and were associated with affective and social cognitive domains. CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that pain-empathic alterations across mental disorders are underpinned by excessive empathic reactivity in brain systems involved in empathic distress and social processes, highlighting a shared therapeutic target to normalize basal social dysfunctions in mental disorders.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: B-type natriuretic peptide or N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide is the only blood biomarker in established risk calculators for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Profiling systemic-originated plasma immunoglobulin G (IgG) N-glycans, which reflect different components of the pathophysiology of PAH including immune dysregulation and inflammation, may improve PAH risk assessment. OBJECTIVES: This study sought to identify plasma IgG N-glycan biomarkers that predict survival in PAH to improve risk assessment. METHODS: This cohort study examined 622 PAH patients from 2 national centers (Beijing [discovery] cohort: n = 273; Shanghai [validation] cohort: n = 349). Plasma IgG N-glycomes were profiled by a robust mass spectrometry-based method. Prognostic IgG N-glycan traits were identified and validated in the 2 cohorts using Cox regression and Kaplan-Meier survival analyses. The added value of IgG N-glycan traits to previously established risk models was assessed using Harrell C-indexes and survival analysis. RESULTS: Plasma IgG fucosylation was found to predict survival independent of age and sex in the discovery cohort (HR: 0.377; 95% CI: 0.168-0.845; P = 0.018) with confirmation in the validation cohort (HR: 0.445; 95% CI: 0.264-0.751; P = 0.005). IgG fucosylation remained a robust predictor of mortality in combined cohorts after full adjustment and in subgroup analyses. Integrating IgG fucosylation into previously established risk models improved their predictive capacity, marked by an overall elevation in Harrell C-indexes. IgG fucosylation was useful in further stratifying the intermediate-risk patients classified by a previously established model. CONCLUSIONS: Plasma IgG fucosylation informs PAH prognosis independent of established factors, offering additional value for predicting PAH outcomes.

RESUMEN

High methyl-esterified citrus pectin (HMCP) is often used as a thickness in food products and is considered a poor emulsifier, especially in neutral pH solutions. Our previous findings show that the emulsifying capacity of HMCP could be significantly enhanced by calcium cations. Besides, the pH of the solution decreased in the presence of calcium cations. However, the impact of solution pH on HMCP emulsifying capacity in the presence of calcium cations is unclear. In this study, the pH of the HMCP solution was adjusted from 3.00 to 8.00 before adding calcium cations. The solution properties and emulsifying properties were analyzed in light of the existence of calcium cations. The results showed that the pH of the HMCP solutions decreased after bringing calcium cations into them. Calcium cations could change the solution rheological properties, particle size distributions and morphologies, and the particle microenvironmental hydrophobic areas in HMCP solutions while increasing the pH of HMCP solutions, contributing to improving the emulsifying capacity of HMCP. HMCP had the best emulsifying ability when the pH of the HMCP solutions was kept at a neutral level. This research gives us new ideas to adjust the emulsifying property of HMCP.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the effect of the soluble Klotho (sKlotho)/Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway on vascular calcification in rat models of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the intervention effect of Shenyuan granules. METHODS: Rats with 5/6 nephrectomy and high phosphorus feeding were used to establish the vascular calcification model. The rats were given gradient doses of Shenyuan granules aqueous solution and calcitriol solution by gavage for 8 weeks, which were divided into experimental group and positive control group. RESULTS: The 5/6 nephrectomy combined with high phosphorus feeding induced thoracic aortic calcification in rats. Shenyuan granules intervention increased the serum sKlotho level, inhibited the mRNA and protein expression of Wnt1, ß-catenin, and Runx2 in the thoracic aorta, and alleviated thoracic aortic media calcification in rats. CONCLUSION: Shenyuan granules may partially regulate the Wnt/ß-catenin signaling pathway via serum sKl to interfere with the expression of Runx2, thereby improving vascular calcification in CKD.

RESUMEN

As a key planar cell polarity protein, Van Gogh-like 2 (Vangl2) is essential for mammalian spermatogenesis. As a decapod crustacean, Eriocheir sinensis exhibits distinct spermatogenic processes due to its unique seminiferous tubule morphology and hemolymph-testis barrier (HTB). To determine whether Vangl2 performs analogous functions in E. sinensis, we identified the Es-Vangl2. Es-Vangl2 exhibited high expression and wide distribution in the testes, indicating its crucial involvement in spermatogenesis. Following targeted knockdown of Es-Vangl2in vivo, the structure of seminiferous tubules was disrupted, characterized by vacuolization of the germinal zone and obstruction of spermatozoon release. Concurrently, the integrity of the HTB was compromised, accompanied by reduced expression and aberrant localization of junction proteins. More importantly, the regulatory influence of Es-Vangl2 was manifested through modulating the organization of microfilaments, a process mediated by epidermal growth factor receptor pathway substrate 8 (Eps8). Further studies demonstrated that these phenotypes resulting from Es-Vangl2 knockdown were attributed to the inhibition of Rock signaling pathway activity, which was verified by the Es-Rock interference and Y27632 inhibition assays. In summary, the findings highlight the pivotal role of Es-Vangl2 in stabilizing HTB integrity by regulating Eps8-mediated actin remodeling through the Rock signaling pathway in the spermatogenesis of E. sinensis.

RESUMEN

Aquaculture wastewater contains high concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus compounds, which can be used as nutrients for microalgal growth. In this study, the ability of Chlorella sorokiniana (C. sorokiniana) to purify aquaculture wastewater from an intensive recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) carp sp. farm was evaluated. We then assessed the safety risk of C. sorokiniana cultured from aquaculture wastewater and conducted an 8-week fish feeding trial to evaluate its nutritional value as a feed protein source. The three diets were supplemented with 0 (FM, control), 5% (MM5) or 15% (MM15) C. sorokiniana to replace the fish meal. A total of 180 healthy gibel carp (Carassius gibelio) of similar size were randomly selected into 9 tanks (20 fish/tank, 3 tanks/group). At the end of C. sorokiniana purifying aquaculture wastewater, DIC and DTC gradually decreased by 80.6% and 16.5%, respectively, whereas DOC increased by 52.2%. The change curve of CODMn was similar to that of DOC, and the removal rates of NH4-N, DTN, DIP and DTP were 93.5%, 86.8%, 36.0% and 26.6%, respectively. The heavy metals and antibiotics contents of C. sorokiniana were low or not detected and conformed to the requirements of the aquatic feed ingredient standards. The ARA, EPA and total polyunsaturated fatty acids contents of C. sorokiniana were 13.67, 33.82 and 76.81% of the total fatty acids content, respectively. At the end of the fish feeding trial, we found that the replacement of fishmeal with C. sorokiniana did not affect the growth of the fish or the amino acids contents of the muscle but promoted the body colour values of the fish and the relative content of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in the muscle. In addition, 5% dietary C. sorokiniana can upregulate the relative expression of cat and increase the activity of CAT in the liver; upregulate the relative expression of the proinflammatory factor inf-γ and the anti-inflammatory factors il-4 and tgf-ß; and reduce the relative abundance of pathogenic bacteria, such as Citrobacter, Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas, in the gut of gibel carp. However, 15% dietary C. sorokiniana significantly increased the relative expression of inf-γ and hsp70 in the liver and only reduced the relative abundance of Citrobacter. Overall, C. sorokiniana has the ability to remove nutrients from aquaculture wastewater and can be an alternative protein source for fish. On the basis of growth performance, antioxidant capacity, fatty acid contents of muscle, and the gut microbiota, 5% dietary C. sorokiniana is recommended.

RESUMEN

Bougainvillea spp., belonging to the Nyctaginaceae family, have high economic and horticultural value in South China. Despite the high similarity in terms of leaf appearance and hybridization among Bougainvillea species, especially Bougainvillea × buttiana, their phylogenetic relationships are very complicated and controversial. In this study, we sequenced, assembled and analyzed thirteen complete chloroplast genomes of Bougainvillea cultivars from South China, including ten B. × buttiana cultivars and three other Bougainvillea cultivars, and identified their phylogenetic relationships within the Bougainvillea genus and other species of the Nyctaginaceae family for the first time. These 13 chloroplast genomes had typical quadripartite structures, comprising a large single-copy (LSC) region (85,169-85,695 bp), a small single-copy (SSC) region (18,050-21,789 bp), and a pair of inverted-repeat (IR) regions (25,377-25,426 bp). These genomes each contained 112 different genes, including 79 protein-coding genes, 29 tRNAs and 4 rRNAs. The gene content, codon usage, simple sequence repeats (SSRs), and long repeats were essentially conserved among these 13 genomes. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and insertions/deletions (indels) were detected among these 13 genomes. Four divergent regions, namely, trnH-GUG_psbA, trnS-GCU_trnG-UCC-exon1, trnS-GGA_rps4, and ccsA_ndhD, were identified from the comparative analysis of 16 Bougainvillea cultivar genomes. Among the 46 chloroplast genomes of the Nyctaginaceae family, nine genes, namely, rps12, rbcL, ndhF, rpoB, rpoC2, ndhI, psbT, ycf2, and ycf3, were found to be under positive selection at the amino acid site level. Phylogenetic relationships within the Bougainvillea genus and other species of the Nyctaginaceae family based on complete chloroplast genomes and protein-coding genes revealed that the Bougainvillea genus was a sister to the Belemia genus with strong support and that 35 Bougainvillea individuals were divided into 4 strongly supported clades, namely, Clades Ⅰ, Ⅱ, Ⅲ and Ⅳ. Clade Ⅰ included 6 individuals, which contained 2 cultivars, namely, B. × buttiana 'Gautama's Red' and B. spectabilis 'Flame'. Clades Ⅱ only contained Bougainvillea spinosa. Clade Ⅲ comprised 7 individuals of wild species. Clade Ⅳ included 21 individuals and contained 11 cultivars, namely, B. × buttiana 'Mahara', B. × buttiana 'California Gold', B. × buttiana 'Double Salmon', B. × buttiana 'Double Yellow', B. × buttiana 'Los Banos Beauty', B. × buttiana 'Big Chitra', B. × buttiana 'San Diego Red', B. × buttiana 'Barbara Karst', B. glabra 'White Stripe', B. spectabilis 'Splendens' and B. × buttiana 'Miss Manila' sp. 1. In conclusion, this study not only provided valuable genome resources but also helped to identify Bougainvillea cultivars and understand the chloroplast genome evolution of the Nyctaginaceae family.

RESUMEN

AIMS: The purpose of this study was to analyze the dynamic trends of ischemic heart disease (IHD) mortality attributable to high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). METHODS: Data on IHD mortality attributable to high LDL-C from 1990 to 2021 were extracted from the global disease burden database. Joinpoint software was used to estimate the average annual percentage change (AAPC) in the age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR). An age‒period‒cohort model was used to analyze the impacts of age, period, and cohort on these changes. The Bayesian framework was used to predict IHD mortality attributable to high LDL-C from 2022 to 2040. RESULTS: The overall ASMR of IHD attributable to high LDL-C decreased from 50. 479 per 100,000 people in 1990 to 32.286 per 100,000 people in 2021, and ASMR of IHD attributable to high LDL-C was higher in males than in females. The longitudinal age curves of the overall IHD mortality attributable to high LDL-C showed a monotonic upward trend, especially after 65 years of age. The period and cohort effect relative risk (RR) values of overall IHD mortality attributable to high LDL-C showed a downward trend. The overall ASMR of IHD attributable to high LDL-C is predicted to show a downward trend, and male IHD mortality attributable to high LDL-C is expected to be higher than that of females. CONCLUSION: This study revealed a sustained decrease in IHD mortality attributable to high LDL-C over three decades, with a continued decline expected. Despite this, gender disparities persist, with males experiencing higher mortality rates and elderly individuals remaining a vulnerable group.
