RESUMEN

Self-powered pressure detection using smart wearable devices is the subject of intense research attention, which is intended to address the critical need for prolonged and uninterrupted operations. Current piezoelectric and triboelectric sensors well respond to dynamic stimuli while overlooking static stimuli. This study proposes a dual-response potentiometric pressure sensor that responds to both dynamic and static stimuli. The proposed sensor utilizes interdigital electrodes with MnO2/carbon/polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as the cathode and conductive silver paste as the anode. The electrolyte layer incorporates a mixed hydrogel of PVA and phosphoric acid. The optimized interdigital electrodes and sandpaper-like microstructured surface of the hydrogel electrolyte contribute to enhanced performance by facilitating an increased contact area between the electrolyte and electrodes. The sensor features an open-circuit voltage of 0.927 V, a short-circuit current of 6 µA, a higher sensitivity of 14 mV/kPa, and outstanding cycling performance (>5000 cycles). It can accurately recognize letter writing and enable capacitor charging and LED lighting. Additionally, a data acquisition and display system employing the proposed sensor, which facilitates the monitoring of athletes' rehabilitation training, and machine learning algorithms that effectively guide rehabilitation actions are presented. This study offers novel solutions for the future development of smart wearable devices.

RESUMEN

In order to develop novel high damping materials with excellent pseudoelasticity (PE) properties to meet the application requirements in aerospace, medical, military and other fields, porous Ni50.8Ti49.2 shape memory alloy (SMA) was prepared by the powder metallurgy method. Different contents of Nb element were added to regulate the microstructures. It was found that after adding the Nb element, the number of precipitates significantly decreased, and the Nb element was mainly distributed in the Ni-Ti matrix in the form of ß-Nb blocks surrounded by Nb-rich layers. Property tests showed that with the increase in Nb content, the damping and PE increased first and then decreased. When the Nb content reached 9.0 at.%, the highest damping and the best PE could be achieved. Compared with the porous Ni-Ti SMA without Nb addition, the damping and PE increased by 60% and 35%, respectively. Correlated mechanisms were discussed.

RESUMEN

Neutralizing antibody (NtAb) levels are key indicators in the development and evaluation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines. Establishing a unified and reliable WHO International Standard (IS) for NtAb is crucial for the calibration and harmonization of NtAb detection assays. National and other WHO secondary standards are key links in the transfer of IS to working standards but are often overlooked. The Chinese National Standard (NS) and WHO IS were developed by China and WHO in September and December 2020, respectively, the application of which prompted and coordinated sero-detection of vaccine and therapy globally. Currently, a second-generation Chinese NS is urgently required owing to the depletion of stocks and need for calibration to the WHO IS. The Chinese National Institutes for Food and Drug Control (NIFDC) developed two candidate NSs (samples 33 and 66-99) traced to the IS according to the WHO manual for the establishment of national secondary standards through a collaborative study of nine experienced labs. Either NS candidate can reduce the systematic error among different laboratories and the difference between the live virus neutralization (Neut) and pseudovirus neutralization (PsN) methods, ensuring the accuracy and comparability of NtAb test results among multiple labs and methods, especially for samples 66-99. At present, samples 66-99 have been approved as the second-generation NS, which is the first NS calibrated tracing to the IS with 580 (460-740) International Units (IU)/mL and 580 (520-640) IU/mL by Neut and PsN, respectively. The use of standards improves the reliability and comparability of NtAb detection, ensuring the continuity of the use of the IS unitage, which effectively promotes the development and application of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in China.

RESUMEN

This study proposes to explore solid waste material (SWM) reuse of the riverway silt and sediment, and examines the impacts of chemical composition on road construction through sensitivity analysis. Considering the characteristics of silt mixture, it is necessary to investigate the modified materials to improve the mechanical feasibility for subgrade filling. In this study, the water content of riverway silt and sediments was found to be important to determine the selection and content of modified materials. Specifically, the riverway silt and sediment with low water content could be improved effectively with 6 to 8% lime. Compared to the original sludge, the improved mixture had better particle size and permeability, and the carrying capacity also grew 2 to 3 times. On the other hand, the reuse of riverway silt and sediment with high water content over 40% was provided with multiple schemes. Among them, the modification scheme of construction waste or garbage slag showed well mechanical properties and environmental benefits in the sensitivity analysis, especially for the high water content sludge modified by the mixture of garbage slag and lime. The California bearing ratio (CBR2.5) was 2 to 5 times higher than the original silt, which would promote the reuse of multiple solid wastes in road construction. Finally, this study puts forward engineering measures to prevent heavy metals from polluting the water and soil environment by silt-improved soil roadbeds, and the improved riverway silt and sediment roadbeds were proved to be safe and reliable for the environment during service.

RESUMEN

Background : Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a contagious viral illness that commonly affects infants and children. This infection is an emerging infectious disease in Rizhao in recent years. The present study examined the short-term effects of meteorological factors on adolescent HFMD in Rizhao. Design : A generalized additive Poisson model was applied to estimate the effects of meteorological factors on adolescent HFMD occurrence in 2010-2012. Subgroup analyses were also conducted to examine the potential effect modifiers of the association in terms of age, sex, and occupation. Results : A positive effect of temperature was observed (ER [excess risk]=1.93%, 95% CI: 1.05 to 2.82% for 1°C increase on lag 5 day). A negative effect of relative humidity at lag 1 day and positive effects were found on lag 5-7 days, and an adverse effect was observed for sunshine at lag days 3-4 (ER=-0.71%, 95% CI: -1.25 to -0.17% on lag day 4). We also found that age, sex, and occupation might be important effect modifiers of the effects of weather variables on HFMD. Conclusions : This study suggests that meteorological factors might be an important predictor of adolescent HFMD occurrence in Rizhao. Age, sex, and occupation might be important effect modifiers of the effects.

RESUMEN

N-Glycosylation of many glycoprotein drugs is important for biological activity and should therefore be the target of specific and quantitative analytical methods. In this study, we focus on the two N-glycan mapping approaches that are used in pharmacopoeial monograph to analyse N-glycans released from fifteen preparations of recombinant human erythropoietin supplied by ten Chinese manufacturers. Underivatised N-glycans were analysed by high performance anion-exchange chromatography with pulsed amperometric detection and fluorophore-labelled N-glycans were analysed by weak anion-exchange and normal-phase high performance liquid chromatography. N-glycans were also analysed by matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation mass spectrometry. The release of N-glycans by PNGase F was shown to be consistent. Z number, a mathematical expression of the total negatively charged N-glycans composition has provided a convenient way to summarise the complex dataset and it might be suitable for product consistency monitoring. However, this Z number reduces the information of individual acidic N-glycan structure and is also found to be method dependent. Therefore, its use requires clear specification and validation. In this study, we only found weak but positive correlation between the Z number and its bioactivity. Wide range of N-glycans yields were obtained from the fifteen preparations but the significance of their differences is unclear.
