RESUMEN

The adjustable structures and remarkable physicochemical properties of 2D monoelemental materials, such as silicene and germanene, have attracted significant attention in recent years. They can be transformed into silicane (SiH) and germanane (GeH) through covalent functionalization via hydrogen atom termination. However, synthesizing these materials with a scalable and low-cost fabrication process to achieve high-quality 2D SiH and GeH poses challenges. Herein, groundbreaking 2D SiH and GeH materials with varying compositions, specifically Si0.25Ge0.75H, Si0.50Ge0.50H, and Si0.75Ge0.25H, are prepared through a simple and efficient chemical exfoliation of their Zintl phases. These 2D materials offer significant advantages, including their large surface area, high mechanical flexibility, rapid electron mobility, and defect-rich loose-layered structures. Among these compositions, the Si0.50Ge0.50H electrode demonstrates the highest discharge capacity, reaching up to 1059 mAh g-1 after 60 cycles at a current density of 75 mA g-1. A comprehensive ex-situ electrochemical analysis is conducted to investigate the reaction mechanisms of lithiation/delithiation in Si0.50Ge0.50H. Subsequently, an initial assessment of the c-Li15(SixGe1- x)4 phase after lithiation and the a-Si0.50Ge0.50 phase after delithiation is presented. Hence, this study contributes crucial insights into the (de)lithiation reaction mechanisms within germanane-silicane alloys. Such understanding is pivotal for mastering promising materials that amalgamate the finest properties of silicon and germanium.

RESUMEN

Biological macromolecules had been studied as ligands in recent years, which not only give the complexes excellent polymer properties, but also have many advantages such as biodegradability. Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCh) is excellent biological macromolecular ligand because of its abundant active amino and carboxyl groups, and it can smoothly transfer energy to Ln3+ after coordinating. To further study the energy transfer mechanism of CMCh-Ln3+ complexes, CMCh-Eu3+/Tb3+ complexes with different Eu3+/Tb3+ ratios were prepared by using CMCh as a ligand. The morphology, structure, and properties of CMCh-Eu3+/Tb3+ were characterized and analyzed by infrared spectroscopy, XPS, TG and Judd-Ofelt theory, thus the chemical structure of CMCh-Eu3+/Tb3+ was determined. The mechanism of energy transfer was explained in detail, also the Förster resonance transfer model is confirmed, and the hypothesis of energy transfer back was verified by the characterization and calculation methods of fluorescence spectra, UV spectra, phosphorescence spectra and fluorescence lifetime. Finally, CMCh-Eu3+/Tb3+ with different molar ratios were used to prepare a series of multicolor LED lamps, and it extends the application range of biological macromolecules as ligands.

RESUMEN

This study was to explore whether Streptococcus pneumoniae would form biofilms and the formative factors of biofilms, as well as the drug resistance mechanism of S. pneumoniae. In this study, a total of 150 strains of S. pneumoniae were collected from 5 local hospitals in the past two years, and the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of levofloxacin, moxifloxacin and penicillin were determined by agar double dilution method to select the drug-resistant strains. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and sequencing were performed on specific genes of drug-resistant strains. In addition, 5 strains of S. pneumoniae with penicillin MIC ≤ 0.065 µg/mL, 0.5 µg/mL, 2 µg/mL, ≥ 4µg/mL were randomly selected, and the biofilms were cultured on two kinds of well plates for 24 hours. Finally, whether the biofilms were formed was observed. Experimental results revealed that the resistance rate of S. pneumoniae to erythromycin in this area was as high as 90.3%, and the strains that were resistant to penicillin account for only 1.5%. The amplification and sequencing experiment revealed that one (strain 1) of the strains, which was resistant to both drugs, had a GyrA mutation and ParE mutation, and strain 2 had a parC mutation. All strains generated biofilms, and the optical density (OD) value of penicillin MIC ≤ 0.065 µg/mL group (0.235 ± 0.053) was higher than that of 0.5 µg/mL group (0.192 ± 0.073) (P< 0.05) and higher than the OD value of the 4 µg/mL group (0.200 ± 0.041) (P< 0.05), showing statistically great differences. It was confirmed that the resistance rate of S. pneumoniae to erythromycin remained high, the rate of sensitivity to penicillin was relatively high, and the moxifloxacin and levofloxacin-resistant strains had appeared; S. pneumoniae mainly showed QRDR mutations in gyrA, parE, and parC; and it was confirmed that S. pneumoniae can generate biofilms in vitro.

RESUMEN

In recent years, superhydrophobic coatings with self-cleaning abilities have attracted considerable attention. In this study, we introduced hydroxyl-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (OH-PDMS) into castor-oil-based waterborne polyurethanes and synthesized silicone-modified castor-oil-based UV-curable waterborne polyurethanes (SCWPU). Further, we identified the optimal amount of OH-PDMS to be added and introduced different amounts of micro- and nanoscale heptadecafluorodecyltrimethoxysilane-modified SiO2 particles (FAS-SiO2) to prepare rough-surface SCWPU coatings with dense micro- and nanostructures, thus realizing waterborne superhydrophobic coatings. The results show that when the OH-PDMS content was 11 wt% and the total addition of FAS-SiO2 particles was 50% (with a 1:1:1 ratio of 100 nm, 1 µm, and 10 nm particles), the coatings exhibited a self-cleaning ability and superhydrophobicity with a contact angle of (152.36 ± 2.29)° and a roll-off angle of (4.9 ± 1.0)°. This castor-oil-based waterborne superhydrophobic coating has great potential for waterproofing, anti-fouling, anti-corrosion, and other applications.

RESUMEN

Even though WS2 nanotubes (NTs-WS2) have great potential as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) thanks to their unusual layered structure, their conductivity and cycling stability are far from satisfactory. To tackle these issues, carbon-coated WS2 (NTs-WS2@C) nanocomposites were prepared through a facile synthesis method that involved precipitating a carbon precursor (20% sucrose) on WS2 nanotubes, followed by annealing treatment under an argon environment. Thanks to the presence of highly conductive and mechanically robust carbon on the outer surface, NTs-WS2@C nanocomposites show improved electrochemical performance compared with bare NTs-WS2. After 60 cycles at 80 mA g-1 current density, the cells display high capacities of 305 mAh g-1 in LIBs and 152 mAh g-1 in SIBs, respectively. As the current density increases to 600 mA g-1, it provides specific capacities of 209 and 115 mAh g-1, correspondingly. The enhanced electrochemical performance in LIBs and SIBs is primarily attributed to the synergistic effects of the tubular architecture of WS2, carbon network and stable nanocomposite structure, which can effectively constrain volume variation during the metal ions intercalation/deintercalation processes.

RESUMEN

A variety of colloidal chemical approaches has been developed in the last few decades for the controlled synthesis of nanostructured materials in either water or organic solvents. Besides the precursors, the solvents, reducing agents, and the choice of surfactants are crucial for tuning the composition, morphology and other properties of the resulting nanoparticles. The ligands employed include thiols, amines, carboxylic acids, phosphines and phosphine oxides. Generally, adding a single ligand to the reaction mixture is not always adequate to yield the desired features. In this review, we discuss in detail the role of the oleic acid/oleylamine ligand pair in the chemical synthesis of nanoparticles. The combined use of these ligands belonging to two different categories of molecules aims to control the size and shape of nanoparticles and prevent their aggregation, not only during their synthesis but also after their dispersion in a carrier solvent. We show how the different binding strengths of these two molecules and their distinct binding modes on specific facets affect the reaction kinetics toward the production of nanostructures with tailored characteristics. Additional functions, such as the reducing function, are also noted, especially for oleylamine. Sometimes, the carboxylic acid will react with the alkylamine to form an acid-base complex, which may serve as a binary capping agent and reductant; however, its reducing capacity may range from lower to much lower than that of oleylamine. The types of nanoparticles synthesized in the simultaneous presence of oleic acid and oleylamine and discussed herein include metal oxides, metal chalcogenides, metals, bimetallic structures, perovskites, upconversion particles and rare earth-based materials. Diverse morphologies, ranging from spherical nanoparticles to anisotropic, core-shell and hetero-structured configurations are presented. Finally, the relation between tuning the resulting surface and volume nanoparticle properties and the relevant applications is highlighted.

RESUMEN

As the new coronavirus pneumonia swept the world in 2020, the demand for antibacterial products significantly increased. In this study, a soy protein isolate nano-silver hydrosol was prepared using an environmentally friendly Ag+ in situ reduction process, where the soy protein was ultrasonically blended with polyacrylic resin to obtain a polyacrylate-nano silver antibacterial wood coating. The structure of the soy protein isolate nano-silver hydrosol was assessed, and the structure and antibacterial and mechanical properties of the film were characterized. The results showed that the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) exhibited good crystallinity and were evenly distributed in the emulsion. The composite film had good antibacterial properties against gram-negative bacteria represented by Escherichia coli and gram-positive bacteria represented by Staphylococcus aureus. With increased nano-silver content, the diameter of the inhibition zone increased from 0 to 30 mm, and from 18 to 50 mm for the two bacteria, respectively. Moreover, the elastic modulus of the film increased from 8.173 to 97.912 MPa, and the elongation at break decreased from 240.601 to 41.038% as the content of AgNPs changed from 0.1 to 1%, respectively. Thus, this study provides a new method for preparing waterborne polyacrylate coatings with excellent antibacterial properties.

RESUMEN

A Li-conversion α-Fe2O3@C nanocomposite anode and a high-voltage LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode are synthesized in parallel, characterized, and combined in a Li-ion battery. α-Fe2O3@C is prepared via annealing of maghemite iron oxide and sucrose under an argon atmosphere and subsequent oxidation in air. The nanocomposite exhibits a satisfactory electrochemical response in a lithium half-cell, delivering almost 900 mA h g-1, as well as a significantly longer cycle life and higher rate capability compared to the bare iron oxide precursor. The LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode, achieved using a modified co-precipitation approach, reveals a well-defined spinel structure without impurities, a sub-micrometrical morphology, and a reversible capacity of ca. 120 mA h g-1 in a lithium half-cell with an operating voltage of 4.8 V. Hence, a lithium-ion battery is assembled by coupling the α-Fe2O3@C anode with the LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cathode. This cell operates at about 3.2 V, delivering a stable capacity of 110 mA h g-1 (referred to the cathode mass) with a Coulombic efficiency exceeding 97%. Therefore, this cell is suggested as a promising energy storage system with expected low economic and environmental impacts.

RESUMEN

Changing demands have led to rapidly growing interest in the modification of waterborne wood coatings. To improve the performance of a polyacrylate wood coating, especially the strength, hardness, and abrasion resistance of the film, a soy protein isolate-grafted-acrylate (SGA) copolymer was prepared in an aqueous solution with ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator and sodium pyrosulfite (SPS) as an unfolding agent for the soybean protein isolate (SPI). The emulsion was characterized using transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and a particle size analyzer. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of the film, including the tensile strength, elastic modulus, elongation at break, and pencil hardness, were measured. The results showed that the glass transition temperature of the polyacrylic resin decreased to 35 °C after the SPI grafting. The elastic modulus of the film increased from 0.317 to 46.949 MPa, and the elongation at break decreased from 453.133% to 187.125% as the addition of SPI varied from 0 to 4 g, respectively. The pencil hardness of the wood coating increased from HB to 3H. This paper proposes a feasible route for the utilization of SPI for wood coatings.
