RESUMEN

The process of formation of aromatic components for agarwood in Aquilaria sinensis is closely related to endophytic fungi and the result of complex multiple long-term joint interactions with them. However, the interactions between the aromatic components and endophytic fungi remain unclear during the formation of agarwood. In this study, precise mixed solution of hormones, inorganic salts, and fungi was used to induce its formation in A. sinensis, and sample blocks of wood were collected at different times after inoculation. This study showed that the aromatic compounds found in the three treatments of A. sinensis were primarily chromones (31.70-33.65%), terpenes (16.68-27.10%), alkanes (15.99-23.83%), and aromatics (3.13-5.07%). Chromones and terpenes were the primary components that characterized the aroma. The different sampling times had a more pronounced impact on the richness and diversity of endophytic fungal communities in the A. sinensis xylem than the induction treatments. The species annotation of the operational taxonomic units (OTUs) demonstrated that the endophytic fungi were primarily composed of 18 dominant families and 20 dominant genera. A linear regression analysis of the network topology properties with induction time showed that the interactions among the fungal species continued to strengthen, and the network structure tended to become more complex. The terpenes significantly negatively correlated with the Pielou evenness index (p < 0.05), while the chromones significantly positively correlated with the OTUs and Shannon indices.

Background: Recent studies have shown that the serum glucose-potassium ratio (GPR) upon admission is correlated with the prognosis of cerebrovascular disorders. Herein, we investigated the relationship between GPR and 90-day functional outcomes in patients with acute ischaemic stroke (AIS). Methods: Clinical data were collected from patients with AIS registered at the Stroke Center of Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine. The relationship between the GPR and 90-day outcomes was analysed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, linear regression analyses, and subgroup analyses. Results: A total of 1826 patients met the enrolment requirements. The number of patients with a glucose-to-potassium ratio greater than the median value increased proportionally with increases in the NIHSS at admission and the 90-day modified Rankin scale (mRS). Univariate logistic regression analysis revealed a significant relationship between GPR and 90-day negative prognosis (OR 1.34 [95%Cl, 1.17-1.54], P < 0.001). After adjusting for all confounding variables, the relationship between GPR and 90-day adverse prognosis was shown to be nonlinearly U-shaped, with an inflection point of the curve for GPR of 1.347. Two linear regression analyses were performed on the basis of the inflection points of the curves. The results of this analysis revealed a negative correlation between GPR and 90-day adverse outcomes at GPR<1.347 (OR 0.86 [95%CI,0.09-7.86], P = 0.897), as well as a positive correlation between GPR and 90-day adverse outcomes at GPR≥1.347 (OR1.52 [95%CI, 1.19-1.93], P = 0.001). Subgroup analyses verified that the association between GPR and 90-day poor prognosis still existed, regardless of whether the patient had a history of diabetes mellitus (DM). (with DM: OR 1.39 [ 95%Cl, 1.05-1.83], P = 0.001); without DM: OR 0.93 [ 95%Cl,0.56-1.55], P = 0.016). Conclusions: GPR significantly correlated with poor prognosis at 90-days in patients with AIS. Early intervention and control of GPR are expected to enhance functional outcomes in patients with AIS.

BACKGROUND: Developmental dyslexia (DD) is a prevalent neurodevelopmental disease that poses challenges in both early intervention and long-term development for children with DD. However, there is a lack of a standardized and comprehensive tool for the diagnosis of DD in Mainland China. AIM: To develop a standardized tool (i.e., Developmental Dyslexia Scale for Standard Mandarin [DDSSM]) for the diagnosis of DD in Mainland China and evaluate its reliability and validity. METHODS AND PROCEDURES: DDSSM consists of 10 subtests. The initial draft was created after Delphi expert consultation, and the final version was revised to improve discriminability with a pilot study involving 450 children from grades 1-3. The reliability and validity were then confirmed with 53 children from grades 1-2. OUTCOMES AND RESULTS: The Delphi expert consultation demonstrated that the expert panel had good authority, and that all agreed on the subtest setup. The DDSSM exhibited great internal consistency. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the model aligns with the theoretical structure (P > 0.05, χ2/df < 2.00, root-mean-square error of approximation (RMSEA) < 0.08, comparative fit index (CFI) > 0.90, TLI > 0.90). The Dyslexia Checklist for Chinese Children and children's academic performance agreed well with the DDSSM. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: The DDSAM is reliable and valid for assessing and diagnosing DD in Standard Mandarin-speaking primary school children from grades 1-2. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS?: Although a number of scales and tools have been proposed for assessing developmental dyslexia (DD) in Chinese, there is still a lack of diagnostic tools for Mandarin Chinese in Mainland China. In this study, we developed one of the most comprehensive diagnostic tools for DD in Mandarin Chinese for lower graders. We included visual-spatial attention (VA) and compounding awareness (CA), two tests that have been recently suggested as reliable measures for identifying DD in the Chinese language. This assessment tool has been verified for robust reliability and validity. This study also provided confirmation of the core deficits of DD in Chinese, which were orthographic awareness (OA). In addition, VA, rapid automatized naming (RAN) and morphological awareness (MA) were found to be the most important cognitive abilities for word reading in Chinese lower graders in this study.

Climate warming and pharmaceutical contaminants have profound impacts on population dynamics and ecological community structure, yet the consequences of their interactive effects remain poorly understood. Here, we explore how climate warming interacts with pharmaceutical-induced boldness change to affect aquatic ecosystems, built on an empirically well-informed food-chain model, consisting of a size-structured fish consumer, a zooplankton prey, and a fish predator. Climate warming is characterized by both daily mean temperature (DMT) and diurnal temperature range (DTR) in our model. Results show that DMT and high levels of species' boldness are the primary drivers of community instability. However, their interactive effects can lead to diverse outcomes: from predator collapse to coexistence with seasonality-driven cycles and coexistence with population interaction-driven cycles. The interactive effects are significantly modulated by daily temperature variability, where moderate DTR counteracts the destabilizing interactive effects by increasing consumer reproduction, while large temperature variability considerably reduces consumer biomass, destabilizing the community at high mean temperatures. Our analyses disentangle the respective roles of DMT, DTR and boldness in mediating the response of aquatic ecosystems to the impacts from pharmaceutical contaminants in the context of climate warming. The interactive effects of the environmental stressors reported here underscore the pressing need for studies aimed at quantifying the cumulative impacts of multiple environmental stressors on aquatic ecosystems.

Aging of epidermal keratinocytes profoundly impacts skin health, contributing to changes in appearance, barrier function, and susceptibility to diseases. Despite its significance, the molecular mechanisms underlying epidermal aging remain elusive. In this study, a reversible immortalized cell line was established by expressing SV40T in keratinocytes using the Tet-Off lentiviral system. Inducing a senescent phenotype by terminating SV40T expression revealed a significant reduction in mitotic ability, as well as characteristics of cellular aging. RNA sequencing analysis revealed alterations in gene expression and signaling pathways including DNA repair dysfunction, notably senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP)-related genes, such as MMP1, SERPINB2 and VEGFA. Our study provides insights into the molecular mechanisms of epidermal aging, offering potential therapeutic targets and highlighting the role of SASP in the aging process.

Van Gogh-like 2 (Vangl2), a core planar cell polarity component, plays an important role in polarized cellular and tissue morphology induction, growth development, and cancer. However, its role in regulating inflammatory responses remains elusive. Here, we report that Vangl2 is upregulated in patients with sepsis and identify Vangl2 as a negative regulator of The nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) signaling by regulating the protein stability and activation of the core transcription component p65. Mice with myeloid-specific deletion of Vangl2 (Vangl2ΔM) are hypersusceptible to lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced septic shock. Vangl2-deficient myeloid cells exhibit enhanced phosphorylation and expression of p65, therefore, promoting the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines after LPS stimulation. Mechanistically, NF-κB signaling-induced-Vangl2 recruits E3 ubiquitin ligase PDLIM2 to catalyze K63-linked ubiquitination on p65, which serves as a recognition signal for cargo receptor NDP52-mediated selective autophagic degradation. Taken together, these findings demonstrate Vangl2 as a suppressor of NF-κB-mediated inflammation and provide insights into the crosstalk between autophagy and inflammatory diseases.

The cost fluctuations associated with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy, as primary modalities for treating malignant tumors, are closely related to medical decision-making and impose financial burdens on patients. In response to these challenges, China has implemented the Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) payment system to standardize costs and control expenditures. This study collected hospitalization data from patients with malignant tumors who received chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy at Hospital H from 2018 to 2022. The dataset was segmented into two groups: the intervention group, treated with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) alongside standard therapies, and the control group, treated with standard therapies alone. Changes and trends in hospitalization costs under the DRG policy were analyzed using propensity-score matching (PSM), standard deviation (SD), interquartile range (IQR), and concentration index (CI). Findings showed a decreasing trend in the standard deviation of hospitalization costs across all treatment modalities. Radiotherapy exhibited the most significant decrease, with costs reducing by 2547.37 CNY in the control group and 7387.35 CNY in the intervention group. Following the DRG implementation, the concentration indexes for chemotherapy and radiotherapy increased, while those for immunotherapy did not exhibit this pattern. Costs were more concentrated in patients who did not receive TCM treatment. In summary, DRG reform positively impacted the cost homogeneity of inpatient treatments for malignant tumors, particularly in the control group not receiving TCM treatment. The effects of DRG reform varied across different treatment modalities. Although short-term fluctuations in hospitalization costs may occur, initial evidence during the study period shows the positive impact of DRG reform on cost homogeneity.

Glycation Stress (GS), induced by advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), significantly impacts aging processes. This study introduces a new model of GS of Caenorhabditis elegans by feeding them Escherichia coli OP50 cultured in a glucose-enriched medium, which better simulates human dietary glycation compared to previous single protein-glucose cross-linking methods. Utilizing WormCNN, a deep learning model, we assessed the health status and calculated the Healthy Aging Index (HAI) of worms with or without GS. Our results demonstrated accelerated aging in the GS group, evidenced by increased autofluorescence and altered gene expression of key aging regulators, daf-2 and daf-16. Additionally, we observed elevated pharyngeal pumping rates in AGEs-fed worms, suggesting an addictive response similar to human dietary patterns. This study highlights the profound effects of GS on worm aging and underscores the critical role of computer vision in accurately assessing health status and aiding in the establishment of disease models. The findings provide insights into glycation-induced aging and offer a comprehensive approach to studying the effects of dietary glycation on aging processes.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) has high metastatic potential and is hard to detect early. This study aims to develop a deep learning model for NPC diagnosis using optical imagery. From April 2008 to May 2021, we analyzed 12,087 nasopharyngeal endoscopic images and 309 videos from 1,108 patients. The pretrained model was fine-tuned with stochastic gradient descent on the final layers. Data augmentation was applied during training. Videos were converted to images for malignancy scoring. Performance metrics like AUC, accuracy, and sensitivity were calculated based on the malignancy score. The deep learning model demonstrated high performance in identifying NPC, with AUC values of 0.981 (95% confidence of interval [CI] 0.965-0.996) for the Fujian Cancer Hospital dataset and 0.937 (0.905-0.970) for the Jiangxi Cancer Hospital dataset. The proposed model effectively diagnoses NPC with high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity across multiple datasets. It shows promise for early NPC detection, especially in identifying latent lesions.

The oriented design of reticular materials as emitters can significantly enhance the sensitivity of electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensing analysis for disease markers. However, due to the structural fragility of hydrogen bonds, relational research on hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) has not been thoroughly conducted. Additionally, the modulation of luminescence behavior through HOFs has been rarely reported. In view of this, hydrogen-bonded biohybrid organic frameworks (HBOFs) were synthesized and recruited for ECL immunoassay applications. HBOFs was easily prepared using 6,6',6″,6‴-(pyrene-1,3,6,8-tetrayl)tetrakis(2-naphthoic acid) as linkers via bovine serum albumin (BSA) activated hydrogen-bonded cross-linking. The material exhibited good fluorescence emission characteristics. And the highly ordered topological structure and molecular motion limitation mediated by BSA overcome aggregation-caused quenching and generate strong aggregation induced emission, expressing hydrogen-bond interaction enhanced ECL (HIE-ECL) activity with the participation of tri-n-propylamine. Furthermore, a sandwich immunosensor was constructed employing cobalt-based metal-phenolic network (CMPN) coated ferrocene nanoparticles (FNPs) as quenchers (CMPN@FNPs). Signal closure can be achieved by annihilating the excited state through electron transfer from both CMPN and FNPs. Using a universal disease marker, carcinoembryonic antigen, as the analysis model, the signal-off sensor obtained a detection limit of 0.47 pg/mL within the detection range of 1 pg/mL - 50 ng/mL. The synthesis and application of highly stable HBOFs triggered by proteins provide a reference for the development of new reticular ECL signal labels, and electron transfer model provides flexible solutions for more sensitive sensing analysis.

Animals spend a considerable proportion of their life span at rest. However, resting status has often been overlooked when investigating how species respond to environmental conditions. This may induce a large bias in understanding the local adaptation of species across environmental gradients and their vulnerability to potential environmental change. Here, we conducted an empirical study on montane agamid lizards, combined with mechanistic modeling, to compare elevational variations in body temperature and metabolisms (cumulative digestion and maintenance cost) between resting and active status. Our study on three populations of an agamid lizard along an elevational gradient revealed a trend of decreasing body temperature toward higher elevations, the main contributor of which was resting status of the lizards. Using population-specific reaction norms, we predicted greater elevational variation in hourly and cumulative digestion for resting lizards than for active lizards. Climate-change impacts, estimated as the change in cumulative digestion, also show greater elevational variation when resting status is factored into the analysis. Further, our global analysis of 98 agamid species revealed that in about half of their combined distributional range, the contribution of resting status in determining the elevational variation in cumulative digestion and maintenance cost of lizards was greater than the contribution made by a lizard's active status. Our study highlights the importance of considering resting status when investigating how species respond to environmental conditions, especially for those distributed over tropical and subtropical mountain areas.

Peppers globally renowned for their distinctive spicy flavor, have attracted significant research attention, particularly in understanding spiciness regulation. While the activator MYB's role in spiciness regulation is well-established, the involvement of repressor MYB factors remains unexplored. This study identified the MYB4 transcription factor through RNA-seq and genome-wide analysis as being associated with spiciness. Consequently, CcMYB4-2 and CcMYB4-12 were cloned from Hainan Huangdenglong peppers, both exhibiting nuclear subcellular localization. qRT-PCR analysis revealed that CcMYB4-2/4-12 had high expression levels during the accumulation period of capsaicin, but there were differences in their peak expression levels, which may be related to the formation of pepper spiciness. Heterologous expression in Arabidopsis thaliana resulted in significantly elevated CcMYB4-2/4-12 expression levels and reduced lignin content. In CcMYB4-2 silenced plants, PAL expression remained unchanged, while PAL expression significantly increased in CcMYB4-12 silenced plants, leading to elevated lignin content and reduced capsaicin content. Yeast one-hybrid (Y1H) and dual luciferase reporter assays (DLR) demonstrated that CcMYB4-2/4-12 inhibited the transcription of CcPAL2 by binding to its promoter. Notably, CcMYB4-12 exhibited more pronounced inhibition. Therefore, it is hypothesized that CcMYB4-12 plays a pivotal role in regulating lignin and capsaicin biosynthesis. This study elucidates the molecular mechanism of MYB4 binding to the PAL promoter, providing a foundational understanding for analyzing phenylpropanoid metabolism and its diverse branches. KEY MESSAGE: Through functional verification analysis of the repressor CcMYB4, transcriptional regulation experiments revealed that CcMYB4 can bind to the CcPAL2 promoter, negatively regulating the capsaicin biosynthesis in Capsicum chinense fruits.

Nanoplastics (NPs) pose great challenges to soil-groundwater systems. This study investigated the transport and retention of self-synthesized 0.5-µm polystyrene NPs with different shapes using column experiments. The regular NPs were with spherical shapes, while the irregular NPs were with toroid-like shapes. The toroid-like shapes were the irregular shapes (with low aspect ratio) which have not been studied yet. The explorations were carried out in both 5-25 mM NaNO3 and 1-10 mM Ca(NO3)2 solutions. Both breakthrough curves (BTCs) and retained profiles (RPs) were monitored. Our findings uncovered a clear disparity in the transport of irregular and regular NPs, with irregular particles exhibiting lower transport ability compared to the regular ones. For example, the average breakthrough plateaus of the regular and irregular NPs were ∼0.9 and ∼0.5, respectively, in 10 mM NaNO3. In-depth theoretical analysis indicated that the lower XDLVO interaction energy barrier between the irregular NPs and quartz sand was one factor, and the greater margination of irregular NPs on quartz sand, as verified by the numerical simulation, was another factor leading to the decreased transport and increased retention of the irregular NPs. The obtained results highlighted the significance of considering particle shape in future modelling and predicting the fate of NPs in real environmental circumstances.

OBJECTIVES: Sexual health is an integral part of well-being. However, the sexual health needs and desires of middle-aged and older adults have been largely disregarded. Therefore, this study aimed to understand the sexual health service preferences of adults aged 45 and older to improve the accessibility of sexual health services in the UK. METHODS: The formative stage of the discrete choice experiment (DCE) followed three steps: concept elicitation, refining and implementation. The attributes and levels were determined through 22 semistructured interviews during the concept elicitation, followed by pilot testing for refining the survey. Qualtrics XM, with conjoint project features, was implemented as the DCE survey platform. We used a random parameter logit model to estimate the relative importance (RI) of each attribute and preference for each attribute level. We also used a latent class model to explore groups of participants with similar preferences. RESULTS: In total, 200 responses were included for analysis. The demographic breakdown included 62.5% females, 35.5% people with disabilities and 26.0% identifying as a sexual minority. The median age was 53. Preferences for using sexual health services were mainly influenced by the mode of delivery (RI 32%), location (RI 18%) and cost (RI 16%). Participants showed a preference for face-to-face interactions at sexual health clinics and displayed a willingness to pay for private services. Extra support and the consultation style played minor roles in their decision-making process. No differences in preferences were identified among disabled people. However, sexual minorities expressed their preferences for conventional messaging. CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed that middle-aged and older individuals prioritise sexual health services offering face-to-face consultations, emphasising a preference to attend sexual health clinics over cost. Aligning service delivery with these preferences has the potential to significantly improve the accessibility and uptake of sexual health services for adults aged 45 and older in the UK.

Background: Many systematic reviews (SRs) have reported the efficacy of acupuncture in improving Parkinson's disease (PD), but the quality of evidence is unknown. Therefore, it is necessary to comprehensively summarize and objectively evaluate the evidence of acupuncture for PD. Methods: Seven databases were searched to retrieve SRs on the acupuncture for PD. Two reviewers independently completed literature retrieval, screening, and data extraction. The methodological quality, risk of bias (RoB), evidence quality of the included SRs were assessed by the Assessing the Methodological Quality of Systematic Reviews 2 (AMSTAR 2), the Risk of Bias in Systematic Reviews (ROBIS), the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) tool. Results: A total of 24 SRs were included. According to AMSTAR 2, 6 (25%) were rated as high quality, 6 (25%) were rated as moderate quality, and 12 (50%) were rated as very low quality. The application of the ROBIS tool showed that 12 (25%) SRs were at low risk of bias. The results of GRADE showed that 8 (7.62%) outcomes provided high quality evidence, 23 (21.9%) outcomes provided moderate quality evidence, 42 (40%) outcomes provided low quality evidence, and 32 (30.48%) outcomes provided very low quality evidence. Conclusion: The overview indicates that acupuncture shows promise as a treatment for PD, although the evidence is limited and inconclusive due to methodological flaws and the heterogeneity of existing studies. Future research should focus on fully reporting methodological details and following review guidelines to produce more reliable and consistent evidence on the effectiveness of acupuncture for PD. Thefruits of Gleditsia sinensis Lam. have been utilized to treat inflammatory diseases in China. Echinocystic acid (EA), one pentacyclic triterpenoid isolated from thefruits of G. sinensis, exhibits an anti-inflammatory effect. However, its anti-sepsis activity and mechanism of action, especially the protective effect against sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI), are not investigated yet. This study is to explore the efficacy and potential mechanism of EA on SA-AKI. EA elevated the function of multiple organs and effectively reduced the increased inflammation and apoptosis of kidney tissue and HK-2 cells. DARTS, CETSA, and molecular docking experiments revealed that EA could directly bind to protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), a widespread prototype non-receptor tyrosine phosphatase. Collectively, EA can alleviate murine SA-AKI though restraining inflammation and apoptosis and may be a potential natural drug for remedying SA-AKI.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate multisite effects on fetal brain MRI. Specifically, to identify crucial acquisition factors affecting fetal brain structural measurements and developmental patterns, while assessing the effectiveness of existing harmonization methods in mitigating site effects. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between May 2017 and March 2022, T2-weighted fast spin-echo sequences in-utero MRI were performed on healthy fetuses from retrospectively recruited pregnant volunteers on four different scanners at four sites. A generalized additive model (GAM) was used to quantitatively assess site effects, including field strength (FS), manufacturer (M), in-plane resolution (R), and slice thickness (ST), on subcortical volume and cortical morphological measurements, including cortical thickness, curvature, and sulcal depth. Growth models were selected to elucidate the developmental trajectories of these morphological measurements. Welch's test was performed to evaluate the influence of site effects on developmental trajectories. The comBat-GAM harmonization method was applied to mitigate site-related biases. RESULTS: The final analytic sample consisted of 340 MRI scans from 218 fetuses (mean GA, 30.1 weeks ± 4.4 [range, 21.7-40 weeks]). GAM results showed that lower FS and lower spatial resolution led to overestimations in selected brain regions of subcortical volumes and cortical morphological measurements. Only the peak cortical thickness in developmental trajectories was significantly influenced by the effects of FS and R. Notably, ComBat-GAM harmonization effectively removed site effects while preserving developmental patterns. CONCLUSION: Our findings pinpointed the key acquisition factors in in-utero fetal brain MRI and underscored the necessity of data harmonization when pooling multisite data for fetal brain morphology investigations. Introduction: China is a large agricultural nation with the majority of the population residing in rural areas. The allocation of health resources in rural areas significantly affects the basic rights to life and health for rural residents. Despite the progress made by the Chinese government in improving rural healthcare, there is still room for improvement. This study aims to assess the spatial spillover effects of rural health resource allocation efficiency in China, particularly focusing on township health centers (THCs), and examine the factors influencing this efficiency to provide recommendations to optimize the allocation of health resources in rural China. Methods: This study analyzed health resource allocation efficiency in Chinese rural areas from 2012 to 2021 by using the super-efficiency SBM model and the global Malmquist model. Additionally, the spatial auto-correlation of THC health resource allocation efficiency was verified through Moran test, and three spatial econometric models were constructed to further analyze the factors influencing efficiency. Results: The key findings are: firstly, the average efficiency of health resource allocation in THCs was 0.676, suggesting a generally inefficient allocation of health resources over the decade. Secondly, the average Malmquist productivity index of THCs was 0.968, indicating a downward trend in efficiency with both non-scale and non-technical efficient features. Thirdly, Moran's Index analysis revealed that efficiency has a significant spatial auto-correlation and most provinces' values are located in the spatial agglomeration quadrant. Fourthly, the SDM model identified several factors that impact THC health resource allocation efficiency to varying degrees, including the efficiency of total health resource allocation, population density, PGDP, urban unemployment rate, per capita disposable income, per capita healthcare expenditure ratio, public health budget, and passenger traffic volume. Discussion: To enhance the efficiency of THC healthcare resource allocation in China, the government should not only manage the investment of health resources to align with the actual demand for health services but also make use of the spatial spillover effect of efficiency. This involves focusing on factors such as total healthcare resource allocation efficiency, population density, etc. to effectively enhance the efficiency of health resource allocation and ensure the health of rural residents.

Slice-to-volume registration and super-resolution reconstruction are commonly used to generate 3D volumes of the fetal brain from 2D stacks of slices acquired in multiple orientations. A critical initial step in this pipeline is to select one stack with the minimum motion among all input stacks as a reference for registration. An accurate and unbiased motion assessment (MA) is thus crucial for successful selection. Here, we presented an MA method that determines the minimum motion stack based on 3D low-rank approximation using CANDECOMP/PARAFAC (CP) decomposition. Compared to the current 2D singular value decomposition (SVD) based method that requires flattening stacks into matrices to obtain ranks, in which the spatial information is lost, the CP-based method can factorize 3D stack into low-rank and sparse components in a computationally efficient manner. The difference between the original stack and its low-rank approximation was proposed as the motion indicator. Experiments on linearly and randomly simulated motion illustrated that CP demonstrated higher sensitivity in detecting small motion with a lower baseline bias, and achieved a higher assessment accuracy of 95.45% in identifying the minimum motion stack, compared to the SVD-based method with 58.18%. CP also showed superior motion assessment capabilities in real-data evaluations. Additionally, combining CP with the existing SRR-SVR pipeline significantly improved 3D volume reconstruction. The results indicated that our proposed CP showed superior performance compared to SVD-based methods with higher sensitivity to motion, assessment accuracy, and lower baseline bias, and can be used as a prior step to improve fetal brain reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: The effectiveness of palliative gastrectomy for advanced GC remains a topic of debate. This study sought to establish whether palliative gastrectomy has an impact on prolonging survival. METHODS: We carried out systematic searches in PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and the EMBASE databases from database inception to July 2023 to gather studies that examined the connection between palliative gastrectomy and the prognosis of advanced GC. The study employed overall survival as the primary outcome, with the hazard ratio serving as the selected parameter to gauge the association. Subgroup analyses were performed to delve into potential differences within the included studies, categorizing them by study region and sample size in order to examine possible sources of heterogeneity. The stability of individual studies was assessed through sensitivity analysis. The analysis included 20 articles, encompassing a total of 23,061 patients. RESULTS: According to the meta-analysis results, patients who underwent palliative gastrectomy exhibited a noteworthy enhancement in overall survival (HR: 1.49; 95% CI: 1.12-1.99; P = 0.006) in comparison to those who did not receive this procedure. There was no association between the type of surgery and the length of hospital stay, as revealed by the analysis (HR = -0.02; 95% CI: -0.84-0.81; P = 0.970). CONCLUSIONS: Based on this meta-analysis, patients with advanced gastric cancer who underwent palliative gastrectomy may experience an extended survival duration without a significant prolongation of their hospitalization.
