RESUMEN

To investigate the clinical effects and application value of self-made disseminating and descending breathing exercises on home rehabilitation of patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Seeking to generate concepts for creating novel, convenient, and efficient COPD prognosis rehabilitation exercises aimed at enhancing the well-being and rehabilitation confidence of both COPD patients and their families. A total of 70 COPD patients admitted to our outpatient department from July 2019 to September 2021 were randomly divided into the exercise group (n = 35) and the control group (n = 35). The control group received routine breathing training, while the exercise group was treated with self-made disseminating and descending breathing exercises. The respiratory function, including pulmonary function (FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC) and respiratory muscle strength (MIP, MEP), exercise tolerance (6-min walking distance, 6MWT), Modified Medical Research Council Dyspnea Scale (mMRC, Borg), COPD quality of life score (CAT, SGRQ), anxiety and depression scores (HAMA, HAMD) were compared between the two groups after 12-week exercise. After 12-week training, the FEV1, MIP, and MEP in the exercise group were significantly higher than those in the control group (p < 0.001), and the 6MWT was significantly increased in the exercise group compared to the control group (p < 0.001); while the mMRC, Borg score, the scores of CAT, SGRQ, HAMA, and HAMD were found significantly lower than those in the control group (p < 0.001). The self-made disseminating and descending breathing exercises can improve respiratory function and reduce symptoms of dyspnea in COPD patients, while enhancing exercise tolerance and relieving anxiety and depression, and are worthy of clinical application.

The magneto-optical response of chiral materials holds significant potential for applications in physics, chemistry, and biology. However, exploration of the near-infrared (NIR) magneto-optical response remains limited. Herein, we report the synthesis and strong NIR-II magneto-optical activity of three pairs of chiral 3d-4f clusters of R/S-Ln15Cu54 (Ln = Sm, Gd, and Dy). Structural analysis reveals that R/S-Ln15Cu54 features a triangular prism cage with C3 symmetry. Interestingly, magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectra exhibit remarkable magneto-optical response in the NIR-II region, driven by the f-f transition. The maximum g-factor of R/S-Sm15Cu54 reaches 5.5 × 10-3 T-1 around 1300-1450 nm, surpassing values associated with DyIII and CuII ions. This remarkable NIR-II magneto-optical activity may be attributed to strong magnetic-dipole-allowed f-f transitions and helix chirality of the structure. This work not only presents the largest Ln-Cu clusters to date but also demonstrate the key role of magnetic-dipole-allowed transitions on magneto-optical activity.

Open hollow dodecahedral cage clusters have long been a coveted target in synthetic chemistry, yet their creation poses immense challenges. Here we report two open hollow dodecahedral lanthanide-aluminum (Ln-Al) heterometallic cage clusters, namely, [Ln210Al140(µ2-OH)210(µ3-OH)540(OAc)180(H2O)156](ClO4)120·(MeCN)x·(H2O)y, (Ln = Dy and x = 27, y = 300 for 1; Ln = Y and x = 28, y = 420 for 2). Remarkably, the 350 metal atoms in 1 and 2 display a Keplerate-type four-shell structure of truncated icosidodecahedron@dodecahedron@dodecahedron@icosidodecahedron. The diameter of the cationic cluster in 1 is approximately 5.0 nm, with an inner cavity diameter of about 2.8 nm and a window diameter of roughly 0.66 nm. The cluster in 1 boasts an accessible inner void volume of up to 15,000 Å3. Notably, these cage clusters maintain stability in water, and the truncated icosidodecahedrons in 1 and 2 are the first of their kind synthesized to date. Given that the open hollow dodecahedral Ln-Al cage cluster has never been reported before, this work represents a member in the family of hollow open dodecahedral cages.

Cardiac myosin-binding protein C (cMyBP-C) is a novel cardiac marker of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and acute cardiac injuries (ACI). Construction of point-of-care testing techniques capable of sensing cMyBP-C with high sensitivity and precision is urgently needed. Herein, we synthesized an Au@NGQDs@Au/Ag multi-shell nanoUrchins (MSNUs), and then applied it in a colorimetric/SERS dual-mode immunoassay for detection of cMyBP-C. The MSNUs displayed superior stability, colorimetric brightness, and SERS enhancement ability with an enhanced factor of 5.4 × 109, which were beneficial to improve the detection capability of test strips. The developed MSNU-based test strips can achieve an ultrasensitive immunochromatographic assay of cMyBP-C in both colorimetric and SERS modes with the limits of detection as low as 19.3 and 0.77 pg/mL, respectively. Strikingly, this strip was successfully applied to analyze actual plasma samples with significantly better sensitivity, negative predictive value, and accuracy than commercially available gold test strips. Notably, this method possessed a wide range of application scenarios via combining with a color recognizer application named Color Grab on the smartphone, which can meet various needs of different users. Overall, our MSNU-based test strip as a mobile health monitoring tool shows excellent sensitivity, reproducibility, and rapid detection of the cMyBP-C, which holds great potential for the early clinic diagnosis of AMI and ACI.

An unusual crystalline porous framework constructed from four types of cages, including all-inorganic Keggin-type polyoxometalate (POM) cages [H3W12O40]5-, organic hexamethylenetetramine (Hmt) cages, nanosized silver-Hmt coordination cages, and giant POM-silver-Hmt cages, was hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized. The framework features a highly symmetrical structure with one-dimensional nanoscale channels and holds good thermal/solvent stability, which endow it with proton conduction properties and heterogeneous catalytic activity for pyrazole. This paper not only contributes to broadening the structural diversity of cage-based crystalline porous framework materials but also sheds new light on the design of new functional framework materials.

Four different structural compositions of organophosphate, 3d transition metal, 4f lanthanide and polyoxoniobate (PONb) are unified in a system for the first time to form a new type of organophosphate 3d-4f heterometallic inorganic-organic hybrid PONb nanowire. Interesting magnetic anisotropy and slow magnetic relaxation are found in the PONb nanowire.

Promoting soil carbon sequestration is a possible way to mitigate global warming. To investigate the effects of exogenous calcium on soil carbon sequestration during the application of organic matter to improve coastal saline-alkali soil. In this study, a 30-day incubation experiment was based on the application of corn straw biochar + chicken manure (BM) and rice straw + chicken manure (SM). Usages of exogenous calcium in each treatment under each organic matter combination as follow: CK (No exogenous calcium), CaSi1 (1.24 g CaSiO3, i.e. 4.28 g Ca kg-1 soil), CaSi2 (2.48 g CaSiO3, i.e. 8.56 g Ca kg-1 soil), CaOH1 (0.79 g Ca(OH)2, i.e. 4.28 g Ca kg-1 soil), CaOH2 (1.58 g Ca(OH)2, i.e. 8.56 g Ca kg-1 soil), CaSiOH (1.24 g CaSiO3 + 0.79 g Ca(OH)2, i.e. 8.56 g Ca kg-1 soil). Results showed that exogenous calcium significantly reduced CO2 emission. Organic matter addition promoted the loss of SOC, and exogenous did not significantly affect the mineralization of SOC albeit strongly increased SIC, making up for the loss of SOC, increasing soil total carbon and realizing soil carbon fixation. Soil carbon fixation was mainly realized by the reaction of exogenous calcium with CO2 generated by mineralization and converting it into calcium carbonate. pH and soil CO2 emission are the major controlling factors for soil inorganic carbon sequestration. Therefore, applying organic matter with exogenous calcium can realize soil carbon fixation by generation of calcium carbonate.

RESUMEN

In recent years, 3D bioprinting with various types of bioinks has been widely used in tissue engineering to fabricate human tissues and organs with appropriate biological functions. Decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) is an excellent bioink candidate because it is enriched with a variety of bioactive proteins and bioactive factors and can provide a suitable environment for tissue repair or tissue regeneration while reducing the likelihood of severe immune rejection. In this Review, we systematically review recent advances in 3D bioprinting and decellularization technologies and comprehensively detail the latest research and applications of dECM as a bioink for tissue engineering in various systems, with the aim of providing a reference for researchers in tissue engineering to better understand the properties of dECM bioinks.

Here we report on the strong magneto-chiral dichroism (MChD) detected through visible and near-infrared light absorption up to 5.0 T on {Er5Ni6} metal clusters obtained by reaction of enantiopure chiral ligands and NiII and ErIII precursors. Single-crystal diffraction analysis reveals that these compounds are 3d-4f heterometallic clusters, showing helical chirality. MChD spectroscopy reveals a high gMChD dissymmetry factor of ca. 0.24 T-1 (T = 4.0 K, B = 1.0 T) for the 4I13/2 ← 4I15/2 magnetic-dipole allowed electronic transition of the ErIII centers. This record value is 1 or 2 orders of magnitude higher than that of the d-d electronic transitions of the NiII ions and the others f-f electric-dipole induced transitions of the ErIII centers. These findings clearly show the key role that magnetic-dipole allowed transitions have in the rational design of chiral lanthanide systems showing strong MChD.

OBJECTIVES: To demonstrate the feasibility of better diagnosing young adults with chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP) by measuring water content in paraspinal muscles using water-muscle decomposition technique in dual-energy CT (DECT) and T2-mapping in MRI. METHODS: This prospective cross-sectional study included 110 young individuals (56 with CNLBP at age of 25.7 ± 2.0 years and 54 of asymptomatic at age of 25.1 ± 1.9 years) who underwent both MRI and DECT on the spine. T2 values on T2 mapping in MRI and water density (WD) value on water(muscle) images in DECT were generated at the L1-L4 levels for erector spinae muscle and L2-L5 for multifidus muscle. Pain duration time, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were recorded for CNLBP patients. Difference of T2 value and WD between the two patient groups, and correlations between T2 value and WD, and T2 value and WD with clinical indicators were analyzed. RESULTS: Compared with asymptomatic participants, the mean WD of multifidus muscle at L4-L5 and mean T2 values of multifidus muscle at L5 were significantly higher in CNLBP patients (all P < 0.05). T2 values had moderate to strong positive correlations (r = 0.34-0.60, all P < 0.05) with DECT WD in CNLBP patients and healthy volunteers. There was a weak correlation between VAS and WD in L5-level multifidus muscle (r = 0.29, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The T2 values in MRI and WD in DECT are higher in multifidus muscles of lower vertebra levels for young CNLBP patients, and there exists positive correlation between WD and T2 values, providing useful information for diagnosing CNLBP.

RESUMEN

Angiopterisnodosipetiolata Ting Wang tris, H.F.Chen & Y.H.Yan, a new fern of Marattiaceae, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, A.nodosipetiolata is similar to A.chingii with more than one naked pulvinus on the stipe and numerous jointed hairs on the undersides of the mature pinnae. However, the pinnae of A.nodosipetiolata are lanceolate and can reach up to 4-6 pairs, whereas they are elliptic and occur in 2-3 pairs in A.chingii. Phylogenetic and genetic distance analysis, based on the plastid genomes, also indicates that A.nodosipetiolata is not closely related to A.chingii. Currently, there are ca. 500 mature individuals in Gulinqing Nature Reserve and we suggest A.nodosipetiolata should be categorised as an Endangered (EN) species according to the criteria of IUCN.

A series of chiral heterometallic Ln-Co clusters, denoted as Co2Ln and Co3Ln2 (Ln = Dy and Er), were synthesized by reacting the chiral chelating ligand (R/S)-2-(1-hydroxyethyl)pyridine (Hmpm), CoAc2·4H2O, and Ln(NO3)3·6H2O. Co2Ln and Co3Ln2 exhibit perfect mirror images in circular dichroism within the 320-700 nm range. Notably, the Co2Er and Co3Er2 clusters display pronounced magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) responses of the hypersensitive f-f transitions 4I15/2-4G11/2 at 375 nm and 4I15/2-2H11/2 at 520 nm of ErIII ions. This study highlights the strong magneto-optical activity associated with hypersensitive f-f transitions in chiral 3d-4f magnetic clusters.

Prostate cancer is a leading diagnosis and major cause of cancer-related deaths in men worldwide. As a typical hormone-responsive disease, prostate cancer is commonly managed with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) to curb its progression and potential metastasis. Unfortunately, progression to castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC), a notably more aggressive phase of the disease, occurs within a timeframe of 2-3 years following ADT. Enzalutamide, a recognized androgen receptor (AR) antagonist, has been employed as a standard of care for men with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) since it was first approved in 2012, due to its ability to prolong survival. However, scientific evidence suggests that sustained treatment with AR antagonists may induce acquired AR mutations or splice variants, such as AR F877L, T878A, and H875Y, leading to drug resistance and thereby diminishing the therapeutic efficacy of these agents. Thus, the establishment of prostate cancer models incorporating these particular mutations is essential for developing new therapeutic strategies to overcome such resistance and evaluate the efficacy of next-generation AR-targeting drugs. We have developed a CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats)-based knock-in technology to introduce an additional F877L mutation in AR into the human prostate cell line LNCaP. This article provides comprehensive descriptions of the methodologies for cellular gene editing and establishment of an in vivo model. Using these methods, we successfully identified an enzalutamide-resistant phenotype in both in vitro and in vivo models. We also assessed the efficacy of target protein degraders (TPDs), such as ARV-110 and ARV-667, in both models, and the corresponding validation data are also included here. © 2024 Wiley Periodicals LLC. Background and objective: Stent-assisted coil (SAC) embolization is a commonly used endovascular treatment for unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs) but can be associated with symptomatic delayed intracerebral hemorrhage (DICH). Our study aimed to investigate the hemodynamic risk factors contributing to DICH following SAC embolization and to establish a classification for DICH predicated on hemodynamic profiles. Methods: This retrospective study included patients with UIAs located in the internal carotid artery (ICA) treated with SAC embolization at our institution from January 2021 to January 2022. We focused on eight patients who developed postoperative DICH and matched them with sixteen control patients without DICH. Using computational fluid dynamics, we evaluated the hemodynamic changes in distal arteries [terminal ICA, the anterior cerebral artery (ACA), and middle cerebral artery (MCA)] pre-and post-embolization. We distinguished DICH-related arteries from unrelated ones (ACA or MCA) and compared their hemodynamic alterations. An imbalance index, quantifying the differential in flow velocity changes between ACA and MCA post-embolization, was employed to gauge the flow distribution in distal arteries was used to assess distal arterial flow distribution. Results: We identified two types of DICH based on postoperative flow alterations. In type 1, there was a significant lower in the mean velocity increase rate of the DICH-related artery compared to the unrelated artery (-47.25 ± 3.88% vs. 42.85 ± 3.03%; p < 0.001), whereas, in type 2, there was a notable higher (110.58 ± 9.42% vs. 17.60 ± 4.69%; p < 0.001). Both DICH types demonstrated a higher imbalance index than the control group, suggesting an association between altered distal arterial blood flow distribution and DICH occurrence. Conclusion: DICH in SAC-treated UIAs can manifest as either a lower (type 1) or higher (type 2) in the rate of velocity in DICH-related arteries. An imbalance in distal arterial blood flow distribution appears to be a significant factor in DICH development.

Atomically precise metal clusters serve as a unique model for unraveling the intricate mechanism of the catalytic reaction and exploring the complex relationship between structure and activity. Herein, three series of water-soluble heterometallic clusters LnCu6, abbreviated as LnCu6-AC (Ln = La, Nd, Gd, Er, Yb; HAC = acetic acid), LnCu6-IM (Ln = La and Nd; IM = Imidazole), and LnCu6-IDA (Ln = Nd; H2IDA = Iminodiacetic acid) are presented, each featuring a uniform metallic core stabilized by distinct protected ligands. Crystal structure analysis reveals a triangular prism topology formed by six Cu2+ ions around one Ln3+ ion in LnCu6, with variations in Cu···Cu distances attributed to different ligands. Electrocatalytic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) shows that these different LnCu6 clusters exhibit different OER activities with remarkable turnover frequency of 135 s-1 for NdCu6-AC, 79 s-1 for NdCu6-IM and 32 s-1 for NdCu6-IDA. Structural analysis and Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations underscore the correlation between shorter Cu···Cu distances and improves OER catalytic activity, emphasizing the pivotal role of active-site distance in regulating electrocatalytic OER activities. These results provide valuable insights into the OER mechanism and contribute to the design of efficient homogeneous OER electrocatalysts.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this research was to explore the difference and correlation of the morphological and hemodynamic features between sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms in anterior circulation arteries, utilizing computational fluid dynamics as a tool for analysis. METHODS: In line with the designated inclusion criteria, this study covered 160 aneurysms identified in 131 patients who received treatment at Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, from January 2021 to September 2022. Utilizing follow-up digital subtraction angiography (DSA) data, these cases were classified into two distinct groups: the sidewall aneurysm group and the bifurcation aneurysm group. Morphological and hemodynamic parameters in the immediate preoperative period were meticulously calculated and examined in both groups using a three-dimensional DSA reconstruction model. RESULTS: No significant differences were found in the morphological or hemodynamic parameters of bifurcation aneurysms at varied locations within the anterior circulation. However, pronounced differences were identified between sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms in terms of morphological parameters such as the diameter of the parent vessel (Dvessel), inflow angle (θF), and size ratio (SR), as well as the hemodynamic parameter of inflow concentration index (ICI) (P<0.001). Notably, only the SR exhibited a significant correlation with multiple hemodynamic parameters (P<0.001), while the ICI was closely related to several morphological parameters (R>0.5, P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The significant differences in certain morphological and hemodynamic parameters between sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms emphasize the importance to contemplate variances in threshold values for these parameters when evaluating the risk of rupture in anterior circulation aneurysms. Whether it is a bifurcation or sidewall aneurysm, these disparities should be considered. The morphological parameter SR has the potential to be a valuable clinical tool for promptly distinguishing the distinct rupture risks associated with sidewall and bifurcation aneurysms.

The one-step efficient separation of high-purity C2H4 from C2H4/C2H6 mixtures by hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) faces two problems: lack of strategies for constructing stable pores in HOFs and how to obtain high C2H6 selectivity. Herein, we have developed a microporous Mortise-Tenon-type HOF (MTHOF-1, MT is short for Mortise-Tenon structure) with a new self-assembly mode for C2H4/C2H6 separation. Unlike previous HOFs which usually possess discrete head-to-head hydrogen bonds, MTHOF-1 is assembled by unique consecutive side-by-side hydrogen bonds, which result in mortise-and-tenon pores decorated with orderly arranged amide groups and benzene rings. As expected, MTHOF-1 exhibits excellent stability under various conditions and shows clear separation trends for C2H6/C2H4. The IAST selectivity is as high as 2.15 at 298 K. More importantly, dynamic breakthrough experiments have demonstrated that MTHOF-1 can effectively separate the C2H6/C2H4 feed gas to obtain polymer-grade C2H4 in one step even under high-humidity conditions.

BACKGROUND: Meningioma is the most common primary intracranial tumor with a high frequency of postoperative recurrence, yet the biology of the meningioma malignancy process is still obscure. METHODS: To identify potential therapeutic targets and tumor suppressors, we performed single-cell transcriptome analysis through meningioma malignancy, which included 18 samples spanning normal meninges, benign and high-grade in situ tumors, and lung metastases, for extensive transcriptome characterization. Tumor suppressor candidate gene and molecular mechanism were functionally validated at the animal model and cellular levels. RESULTS: Comprehensive analysis and validation in mice and clinical cohorts indicated clusterin (CLU) had suppressive function for meningioma tumorigenesis and malignancy by inducing mitochondria damage and triggering type 1 interferon pathway dependent on its secreted isoform, and the inhibition effect was enhanced by TNFα as TNFα also induced type 1 interferon pathway. Meanwhile, both intra- and extracellular CLU overexpression enhanced macrophage polarization towards M1 phenotype and TNFα production, thus promoting tumor killing and phagocytosis. CONCLUSIONS: CLU might be a key brake of meningioma malignance by synchronously modulating tumor cells and their microenvironment. Our work provides comprehensive insights into meningioma malignancy and a potential therapeutic strategy.
