RESUMEN

Fully π-conjugated polymers with rigid aromatic units are promising for flexible optoelectronic devices, but their inherent brittleness poses a challenge for achieving high-performance, intrinsically stretchable fully π-conjugated polymer. Here, we are establishing an external-plasticizing strategy using semiconductor fluid plasticizers (Z1 and Z2) to enhance the optoelectronic, morphological, and stretchable properties of fully π-conjugated polymer films for flexible light-emitting diodes. The synergistic effect of hierarchical structure and optoelectronic properties of Z1 in poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorene-alt-benzothiadiazole) (F8BT) films enable excellent stretchable deformability (~25%) and good conductivity. PLEDs based on F8BT/Z1 films show stable electroluminescence and efficiency under 15% stretch and 100 cycles at 10% strain, revealing outstanding stress tolerance. This strategy is also improving the stretchable properties of polymers like poly(9,9-di-n-octylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl) (PFO) and poly(2-methoxy-5(2'-ethyl)hexoxy-phenylenevinylene) (Super Yellow), demonstrating its general applicability. Therefore, this strategy can provide effective guidance for designing high-performance stretchable fully π-conjugated polymers films for flexible electronic devices.

Foraging selectivity by domestic herbivores is a critical factor affecting plant community structure and functioning of rangeland. However, there is rather limited knowledge of whether and how foraging selectivity of different herbivore species varies with plant diversity. Here, we experimentally investigated the foraging selectivity of co-grazing cattle and sheep across 15 plots with varying plant diversity gradients in a meadow steppe. The results showed that the foraging selectivity of sheep significantly increased with increased plant diversity, while that of cattle did not change. This effect was still present after accounting for the effect of plant community protein. Increased plant diversity also resulted in more traveling steps for sheep, but had no effect on cattle. Further, the foraging selectivity of sheep was stronger than that of cattle at higher plant diversity levels, but weaker at lower diversity levels. Our results indicate that sheep and cattle can have completely different impacts on grassland plant communities and dynamics, depending on the context of plant diversity, due to their distinct and varying foraging selectivity. Sheep behave more sensitively to changes in plant diversity. We thus suggest that sheep should be used with caution on grasslands with high plant diversity due to strong diet selectivity. Instead, cattle, with stable behaviors, should be a relatively conservative management tool to conserve plant diversity.

Syphilis, a sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum (T. pallidum), can lead to a complication known as neurosyphilis. Neurosyphilis affects multiple components of the nervous system, including the meninges, blood vessels, brain parenchyma, and others, significantly impacting the central nervous system (CNS). Despite the effective control of syphilis spread by antibiotics, recent years have seen a resurgence in incidence among high-risk populations. The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a critical defense for the CNS, preventing toxins and pathogens, including viruses, from entering and ensuring CNS function. The exact mechanisms of how T. pallidum penetrates the BBB are still not fully understood. Extensive research suggests that T. pallidum can disrupt endothelial cells and intercellular junctions, as well as induce abnormal activation of immune cells and aberrant cytokine expression, potentially facilitating its breach of BBB. Based on current research, we focus on the detrimental effects of cytokines on BBB integrity. We have also summarized the pathways T. pallidum uses to penetrate cellular barriers. Understanding the interaction between T. pallidum and the BBB is essential for revealing neurosyphilis pathogenesis and developing new therapies. BACKGROUND: Measurement of endogenous cellular hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can provide information on cellular status, and help to understand cellular metabolism and signaling processes, thus contributing to elucidation of disease mechanisms and new diagnostics/therapeutic approaches. RESULTS: In this work, Pt-Cd bimetallic nanozyme was successfully prepared via the solvothermal synthetic method for sensitive detection of H2O2. The synthesized Pt-Cd bimetallic nanozyme could exhibited good electrochemical activity. Then, the materials were analyzed for the electrochemical properties and catalytic properties of H2O2 by cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry, respectively. Results indicated that the synthesized nanozyme had superior sensitivity (295 µA⸳mM-1⸳cm-2) and selectivity toward H2O2 with a detection limit of 0.21 µM. Further, the Pt-Cd bimetallic nanozyme displayed good electrochemical properties compared to platinum catalysts alone. The application was extended to determine the produced H2O2 from human hepatocellular carcinoma cells (HepG2) and normal hepatocyte (LO2) samples after ascorbic acid stimulation, thus enabling the early warning of cellular carcinogenesis. SIGNIFICANCE: This strategy promises simple, rapid, inexpensive and effective electrochemical sensing and provides a new pathway for the synthesis of bimetallic nanozymes to construct an electrochemical sensor for the sensitive detection of H2O2.

A high-efficiency PtZnCd nanozyme was screened with density functional theory (DFT) and unique d-orbital coupling features for sensitive enrichment and real-time analysis of CO-releasing molecule-3 (CORM-3). Multi-catalytic sites in the nanozyme showed a high reactivity of up to 72.89 min-1 for peroxidase-like enzymes (POD) reaction, which was 2.2, 4.07, and 14.67 times higher than that of PtZn (32.67 min-1), PtCd (17.89 min-1), and Pt (4.97 min-1), respectively. Normalization of the catalytic sites showed that the catalytic capacity of the active site in PtZnCd was 2.962 U µmol-1, which was four times higher than that of pure Pt site (0.733 U µmol-1). DFT calculations showed that improved d-orbital coupling between different metals reduces the position of the center of the shifted whole d-band relative to the Fermi energy level, thereby increasing the contribution of the sites to the electron transfer from the active center, accompanied with enhanced substrate adsorption and intermediate conversion in the catalytic process. The potential adsorption principle and color development mechanism of CORM-3 on PtZnCd were determined, and the practical application in drug metabolism was validated in vitro, in zebrafish and mice as a model, demonstrating that transition metal doping effectively engineers high-performance nanozymes and optimizes artificial enzymes.

Wnt signal is crucial to correctly regenerate tissues along the original axis in many animals. Lizards are able to regenerate their tails spontaneously, while the anterior-posterior axis information required for the successful regeneration is still elusive. In this study, we investigated the expression pattern of Wnt ligands and HOX genes during regeneration. The results of in situ hybridization revealed that Wnt6 and Wnt10A mRNA levels are higher in wound epithelium (WE) than that in blastema during regeneration. In addition, we showed that Wnt agonist positively regulated the expression of HOXA13 in cultured blastema cells, while did not show similar effect on that of HOXB13, HOXC13 and HOXD13. Finally, we found that HOXA13 showed a gradient level along the anterior-posterior axis of regenerated blastema, with higher level at the caudal end. These data proposed that Wnt6, Wnt10A and HOXA13 might play an important role in establishing distal position for regeneration.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the bioequivalence of two different afatinib dimaleate formulations in healthy Chinese subjects under fasting conditions and to assess their pharmacokinetic and safety profiles. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This randomized, open-label, 2-period, crossover, bioequivalence study included 32 healthy Chinese subjects. The subjects were assigned to receive a single 40-mg dose of generic or brand-named afatinib dimaleate tablet. Blood samples were collected pre-dose and up to 120 hours after dosing. Healthy subjects orally took the trial preparation (T) (afatinib maleate tablets developed by Jiangxi Shanxiang Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Gan Zhou, China) and the reference preparation (R) (afatinib maleate tablets developed by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma GmbH & Co., Ingelheim, Germany) under fasting conditions in the appropriate period according to the randomization. We measured the blood concentrations, calculated the pharmacokinetic parameters of the two preparations in the human body, and evaluated whether formulations were bioequivalent. Safety of the preparations in healthy subjects was monitored during the whole trial. Safety assessment was conducted by vital signs, physical examination, laboratory examination, and 12-lead electrocardiogram during the study, i.e., from the time the subject received the test drug to the end of the last visit. RESULTS: Under fasting conditions, the 90% confidence intervals (CIs) of the geometric mean ratios of the test/reference for afatinib dimaleate were 93.34 - 103.92% for AUC0-t, 90.26 - 105.52% for Cmax, and 93.49 - 104.05% for AUC0-∞. CONCLUSION: The 90% CI for the geometric mean ratios (test/reference) of Cmax, AUC0-t, and AUC0-∞ were within the range of 80.00 - 125.00%, indicating that the test formulation was equivalent to the reference formulation in healthy Chinese subjects under fasting conditions. Both products were similar in terms of safety.

Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) is a rare, maternally inherited eye disease, predominantly due to the degeneration of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs). It is associated with a mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) point mutation. Our previous study identified that the m.15927G > A homoplasmic mutation damaged the highly conserved base pairing (28C-42G) in anticodon stem of tRNAThr, caused deficient t6A modification and significantly decreased efficiency in aminoacylation and steady-state levels of tRNAThr, and led to mitochondrial dysfunction. Meanwhile, mechanisms underlying mtDNA mutations regulate intracellular signaling related to mitochondrial and cellular integrity are less explored. Here, we manifested that defective nucleotide modification induced by the m.15927G > A mutation interfered with the expression of nuclear genes involved in cytoplasmic proteins essential for oxidative phosphorylation system (OXPHOS), thereby impacting the assemble and integrity of OXPHOS complexes. As a result of these mitochondrial dysfunctions, there was an imbalance in mitochondrial dynamics, particularly distinguished by an increased occurrence of mitochondrial fission. Excessive fission compromised the autophagy process, including the initiation phase, formation, and maturation of autophagosomes. Both Parkin-mediated mitophagy and receptor-dependent mitophagy were significantly impaired in cybrids haboring the m.15927G > A mutation. These changes facilitated intrinsic apoptosis, as indicated by increased cytochrome c release and elevated levels of apoptosis-associated proteins (e.g., BAK, BAX, cleaved caspase 9, cleaved caspase 3, and cleaved PARP) in the mutant cybrids. This study demonstrates that the m.15927G > A mutation contributes to LHON by dysregulating OXPHOS biogenesis, aberrant quality control, increased autophagy, inhibited mitophagy, and abnormal apoptosis.

BACKGROUND: Intracranial hemorrhage is the major safety concern of standard-dose ticagrelor (90 mg twice daily) based dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). The bleeding avoidance strategy through dose de-escalation has been investigated in interventional cardiology. However, the preserved antithrombotic efficacy and better safety of half-dose (45 mg twice daily) ticagrelor remains unverified in patients undergoing stent-assist coiling (SAC) or flow diversion (FD) treating unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIA). METHODS: A single-center, prospective, cohort study was conducted to compare DAPT with aspirin 100 mg daily plus half-dose ticagrelor vs standard-dose clopidogrel (75 mg daily) in UIA patients. The adenosine diphosphate inhibition (ADPi) rate was utilized to quantify the antagonization of adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet aggregation. The patients were followed-up at 6 month after discharge. The primary efficacy outcome was the major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE), and the primary safety outcome was major bleeding. The secondary outcome was minor hemorrhage. RESULTS: Our study included 322 UIA patients, of which 254 patients were eventually enrolled after propensity score matching. The ADPi of half-dose ticagrelor (51.56%±31.46%) was comparable (P=0.089) to that of clopidogrel (57.44%±22.76%). The outcomes were also comparable. Five (3.94%) patients in the ticagrelor group and eight (6.30%) patients in the clopidogrel group reported MACCE (P=0.393). One patient in the ticagrelor group was diagnosed with asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage 1 month after stenting. There were 36 (28.35%) minor hemorrhagic events in the ticagrelor group and 35 (27.56%) in the clopidogrel group, (P=0.889). CONCLUSION: Half-dose ticagrelor was effective and safe as a potential alternative to clopidogrel in the DAPT regimen for patients undergoing SAC/FD for UIA.

Tumor cell heterogeneity defines therapy responsiveness in neuroblastoma (NB), a cancer derived from neural crest cells. NB consists of two primary subtypes: adrenergic and mesenchymal. Adrenergic traits predominate in NB tumors, while mesenchymal features becomes enriched post-chemotherapy or after relapse. The interconversion between these subtypes contributes to NB lineage plasticity, but the underlying mechanisms driving this phenotypic switching remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex ATPases are essential in establishing an mesenchymal gene-permissive chromatin state in adrenergic-type NB, facilitating lineage plasticity. Targeting SWI/SNF ATPases with SMARCA2/4 dual degraders effectively inhibits NB cell proliferation, invasion, and notably, cellular plasticity, thereby preventing chemotherapy resistance. Mechanistically, depletion of SWI/SNF ATPases compacts cis-regulatory elements, diminishes enhancer activity, and displaces core transcription factors (MYCN, HAND2, PHOX2B, and GATA3) from DNA, thereby suppressing transcriptional programs associated with plasticity. These findings underscore the pivotal role of SWI/SNF ATPases in driving intrinsic plasticity and therapy resistance in neuroblastoma, highlighting an epigenetic target for combinational treatments in this cancer.

Although most source apportionments of VOCs use mixing ratios, about 23 % of published studies use mass concentrations. Thus, systematically exploring the changes in VOC source apportioned results caused by metric differences is important to assess the differences in key precursor apportionment results given the observed increases in O3 pollution situation. Different monitoring instruments measured hourly VOC volumetric concentrations in three typical Chinese cities (i.e., Qingdao, Shijiazhuang, and Zhumadian). Converting volumetric to mass concentrations under standard and/or actual temperature-pressure conditions, VOC values with different metrics were obtained. The impacts of different metrics on the source apportionments were then investigated. Compared to the positive matrix factorization of the volumetric data (VC-PMF), the VOC species concentrations with low relative molecular mass (RMM) in the factor profiles substantially decreased in mass data analyses (MC-PMF). However, those species with high RMM substantially increased. There were no substantial differences in the apportioned source contributions based on standard and actual condition mass concentrations. However, the high-low rankings of percent contributions apportioned using the volumetric and mass data produced substantial differences. Compared with the VC-PMF results, the percent contributions of sources dominated by species with low RMM (e.g., natural gas usage and mixed sources containing natural gas usage) apportioned by MC-PMF decreased, while those of sources that emitted high RMM species (e.g., solvent usage and mixed sources containing solvent usage) increased. Source apportionments based on the volumetric concentration data had more practical significance compared to the mass concentration data results for control strategy development since the mass data analyses created issues.

Background: To investigate the association of serum bilirubin within normal range, especially unconjugated bilirubin (UCB), with diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: In this cross-sectional, real-world study, 7617 T2DM patients were stratified into quartiles based on serum UCB levels. DR was determined by digital fundus photography and further classified into non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) and PDR. The associations of serum bilirubin levels and UCB quartiles with DR were investigated by logistic regression analysis. Results: After controlling for age, sex, and diabetes duration, the DR prevalence was significantly decreased across the serum UCB quartiles (40.4 %, 33.4 %, 29.7 %, 26.6 % for each quartile, respectively, p < 0.001 for trend). The subjects with DR had lower serum total bilirubin (TB) and UCB, rather than conjugated bilirubin (CB), compared with those without DR (p = 0.003 for TB, p < 0.001 for UCB, and p = 0.528 for CB, respectively), while all three types of serum bilirubin in the subjects with PDR were obviously lower than those with NPDR (p = 0.006 for TB, and p < 0.001 for UCB and CB, respectively). After adjustment for confounding factors, logistic regression demonstrated negative associations of serum TB and UCB levels, rather than CB, with the presence of DR (OR: 0.844, 95%CI: 0.774-0.920, p < 0.001 for TB; OR: 0.828, 95%CI: 0.763-0.899, p < 0.001 for UCB; and OR: 0.984, 95%CI: 0.900-1.074, p = 0.713 for CB, respectively). Additionally, a fully-adjusted analysis revealed a negative correlation between UCB quartiles and DR (p < 0.001). Conclusion: High-normal serum TB and UCB were closely associated with the decreased odds of DR, while all types of serum bilirubin were negatively correlated with the severity of DR in T2DM patients. Serum bilirubin may be used as a potential indicator to assess the risk and severity of DR in T2DM.

The olivine-based gallate CaYGaO4 (CYG) with unique cationic ordering, rich lattice sites, and self-photoluminescence (PL) is suitable for application as a host of phosphor. However, research in this area is still in its early stages, especially in high-quality full-spectrum white lighting. Herein, novel CYG: Bi3+/Eu3+ with a controllable PL property is designed based on energy transfer and superposition of emissions from blue self-PL, blue PL of Bi3+, and red-PL of Eu3+. Intriguingly, PL intensity and quantum efficiency could be enhanced via codoping Li+/Zn2+ separately/simultaneously because of their two intentional functions as both charge balancer and flux. Unlike self- and Eu3+ PL, Bi3+ PL is quite sensitive to the lattice environment owing to its exposed 6s2 electronic configuration and is tuned via codoping Sr2+ to regulate the nephelauxetic effect and crystal field splitting concurrently around Bi3+. Meanwhile, for further regulating the PL of Bi3+ and obtaining "warm" white light, La3+ is codoped into the phosphor via crystallographic site engineering to control the substitution trends of Bi3+ at distinct lattice sites. Finally, as a proof-of-concept, a full-spectrum phosphor-converted white-light-emitting diode device under nUV pumping with remarkable color rendering index (Ra), high luminous efficiency, and chemical/thermal stability is achieved by utilizing the individual CYG:Bi/Eu/Li/Zn/Sr/La phosphor via a remote "capping" packaging method.

The overuse of antibiotics in treating bacterial infections is a significant threat to the environment and human health. The utilization of visible-light-assisted peroxydisulfate (PDS) activation for eliminating organic pollutants is a promising approach. This study uses a straightforward hydrothermal method to prepare magnetically recyclable spherical Cu2O@Fe3O4. The efficacy of this material in removing antibiotic pollutants was assessed using simulated wastewater containing tetracycline (TC). TC removal was achieved by activating PDS with Cu2O@Fe3O4 as the visible light photocatalyst. Experimental findings revealed that under specific conditions-a pH of 9, a Cu2O@Fe3O4 concentration of 60 mg L-1, and a PDS concentration of 25 mg L-1-the removal rate of TC reached 97.67% after 30 min of irradiation. Moreover, Cu2O@Fe3O4 exhibited excellent recyclability, maintaining a removal rate of 93.33% after five recycling rounds. X-ray diffraction characterization of the Cu2O@Fe3O4 composite before and after cycling confirmed its robust stability and reusability. In situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that electrons migrated from Fe3O4 to Cu2O during the photocatalytic reaction, indicating the formation of an S-type heterojunction in Cu2O@Fe3O4. Free radical trapping experiments demonstrated the active involvement of ·OH, ·O2 -, SO4˙- and h+ radicals in TC removal.

A quantitative water detection method is urgently needed in storage facilities, space exploration, and the chemical industry. Although numerous physical techniques have been widely utilized to determine the water content, they still suffer from many disadvantages such as highly expensive special instruments, complicated analysis processes, etc. Hence, a convenient, rapid, and sensitive water analysis method is highly desirable. Herein, we developed a visual fluorescence sensing technology for water detection based on reversible PL off-on switching of organic-inorganic hybrid zero-dimensional (0D) manganese halides. In this work, a family of hybrid manganese halides were synthesized through a facile solution method, namely, [NH4(18-Crown-6)]2MnBr4, [Ca(18-Crown-6)·3H2O](18-Crown-6)MnBr4, [NH4(dibenzo-18-Crown-6)]2MnBr4, and [Ca(dibenzo-18-Crown-6)·2H2O]MnBr4. Excited by UV light, these highly crystalline manganese halides exhibit strong green light emissions from the d-d electron transition of Mn2+ with near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield and submillisecond lifetime. Benefiting from the dynamic and weak ionic bonding interactions, these 0D manganese halides display reversible water-response on/off luminescence switching but fail in any other aprotic solvents. Therefore, these 0D hybrid manganese halides can be explored as ultrafast visual fluorescence probes to detect the trace amount of water in organic solvents with multiple superiorities of rapid response time (< 2 s), ultralow detection limit (9.71 ppm), excellent repeatability, etc. The reversible water-response luminescent on/off switching also provides a binary optical gate with advanced applications in anticounterfeiting and information security, etc.

BACKGROUND: To observe whether the effect of orthokeratology (OK) lenses on myopia control in children with allergic conjunctivitis (AC) after three years of wear differs from that in children without allergic conjunctivitis (nAC) and to identify the potential influencing factors. METHODS: This was a retrospective case-control study. Patients aged 8-15 years who were fitted with OK lenses in 2019 were collected. A three-year follow-up was also conducted, documenting all corneal adverse events (AEs) and the increase in axial length (AL) of the eye after three years of wearing OK lenses. Patients were divided into groups with and without AC based on their medical history and physical signs at the initial fitting. Baseline data and AL elongation after three years were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: A total of 309 patients were included in this study, with 47 in the AC group and 262 in the nAC group. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of age, sex, spherical equivalent (SE), AL of the eye and environment. After three years of OK lens wear, the AL elongation in the AC group was 0.96 ± 0.45 mm, whereas it was 0.69 ± 0.45 mm in the nAC group (P < 0.001). The extent of AL elongation in AC patients was significantly greater than that in nAC patients. During the three-year follow-up period, the duration of OK lenses discontinuation due to corneal AEs in the AC group was greater than that in the nAC group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: This study found that allergic conjunctivitis can affect the efficacy of OK lenses in controlling myopia after three years of treatment.

Background: Breast cancer (BC) has the highest incidence rate among female malignant tumors. Adjuvant chemotherapy is commonly used to reduce micrometastasis in postoperative patients. However, monitoring the efficacy of chemotherapy in BC is a major challenge in clinical practice. In this study, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) metabonomics was performed to explore the serum metabolic characteristics of BC patients before and after adjuvant chemotherapy. Methods: In this study, we collected serum samples from 51 healthy controls and 61 BC patients before and after chemotherapy for 1H NMR metabolomic analysis, and tested the performance of each metabolite and combination segment by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results: Nine metabolites, namely glutamine, citrate, creatine, glycerophosphatidylcholine/phosphatidylcholine, glycine, 1-methylhistidine, lactate, pyruvate and formate had significant changes in BC patients before chemotherapy compared with healthy controls. Lactate, pyruvate, 1-methylhistidine and formate were found to be inversely regulated by chemotherapy. ROC analysis showed that a combination of the four metabolites had good prediction for chemotherapy efficacy with area under the curve of 0.958, sensitivity of 98.36% and specificity of 91.30%. There was no significant correlation between chemotherapy-related metabolites and clinical indicators of cancer patients, indicating that they can be used to evaluate the chemotherapy efficacy of patients with different clinical indicators. Conclusions: Effectively, dynamic and non-invasive metabolic markers for the evaluation of the efficacy of chemotherapy were identified in this study.

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (S. maltophilia) is an emerging opportunistic pathogen that exhibits resistant to a majority of commonly used antibiotics. Phages have the potential to serve as an alternative treatment for S. maltophilia infections. In this study, a lytic phage, A1432, infecting S. maltophilia YCR3A-1, was isolated and characterized from a karst cave. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that phage A1432 possesses an icosahedral head and a shorter tail. Phage A1432 demonstrated a narrow host range, with an optimal multiplicity of infection of 0.1. The one-step growth curve indicated a latent time of 10 min, a lysis period of 90 min, a burst size of 43.2 plaque-forming units per cell. In vitro bacteriolytic activity test showed that phage A1432 was capable to inhibit the growth of S. maltophilia YCR3A-1 in an MOI-dependent manner after 2 h of co-culture. BLASTn analysis showed that phage A1432 genome shares the highest similarity (81.46%) with Xanthomonas phage Xoo-sp2 in the NCBI database, while the query coverage was only 37%. The phage contains double-stranded DNA with a genome length of 61,660 bp and a GC content of 61.92%. It is predicted to have 79 open reading frames and one tRNA, with no virulence or antibiotic resistance genes. Phylogenetic analysis using terminase large subunit and DNA polymerase indicated that phage A1432 clustered with members of the Bradleyvirinae subfamily but diverged into a distinct branch. Further phylogenetic comparison analysis using Average Nucleotide Identity, proteomic phylogenetic analysis, genomic network analysis confirmed that phage A1432 belongs to a novel genus within the Bradleyvirinae subfamily, Mesyanzhinovviridae family. Additionally, phylogenetic analysis of the so far isolated S. maltophilia phages revealed significant genetic diversity among these phages. The results of this research will contribute valuable information for further studies on their morphological and genetic diversity, will aid in elucidating the evolutionary mechanisms that give rise to them.

In this work, we reported a cholesterol oxidase (Chox)-loaded platinum (Pt) nanozyme with the collaborative cascade nanoreactor for the construction of nanozyme-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (N-ELSA) models to realize high-throughput rapid evaluation of cancer markers. Considering the high specific surface area and manipulable surface sites, ZIF-8 was used as a substrate for natural enzyme and nanozyme loading. The constructed ZIF-8-Pt nanozyme platform exhibited efficient enzyme-like catalytic efficiency with a standard corrected activity of 60.59 U mg-1, which was 12 times higher than that of the ZIF-8 precursor, and highly efficient photothermal conversion efficiency (∼35.49%). In N-ELISA testing, developed multienzyme photothermal probes were immobilized in microplates based on antigen-antibody-specific reactions. Cholesterol was reacted in a cascade to reactive oxygen radicals, which attacked 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine, causing it to oxidize and color change, thus exhibiting highly enhanced efficient photothermal properties. Systematic temperature evaluations were performed by a hand-held microelectromechanical system thermal imager under the excitation of an 808 nm surface light source to determine the cancer antigen 15-3 (CA15-3) profiles in the samples. Encouragingly, the temperature signal from the microwells increased with increasing CA15-3, with a linear range of 2 mU mL-1 to 100 U mL-1, considering it to be the sensor with the widest working range for visualization and portability available. This work provides new horizons for the development of efficient multienzyme portable colorimetric-photothermal platforms to help advance the community-based process of early cancer detection.

BACKGROUND: Testicular cancer usually occurs in young adult men between the ages of 20 and 40 years, which largely coincides with the age of men's reproductive intentions. However, a serious side effect of testicular cancer therapy could reduce the fertility of patients. PURPOSE: To explore the experience of fertility concerns in patients with testicular cancer. METHODS: A phenomenological research was conducted on 12 patients with testicular cancer. Data collection was from May 2023 to August 2023, and Colaizzi analysis method was used to analyze the data. RESULTS: Four themes were found: (1) multiple worries and negative emotions, (2) fertility decision-making faces many challenges, (3) self-coping strategies for facing fertility concerns, (4) unmet supportive care needs. CONCLUSION: Medical staff should pay attention to the fertility needs of patients with testicular cancer and provide relevant interventions and support to reduce their fertility concerns.
