RESUMEN

Fabrics represent a unique platform for seamlessly integrating electronics into everyday experiences. The advancements in functionalizing fabrics at both the single fibre level and within constructed fabrics have fundamentally altered their utility. The revolution in materials, structures, and functionality at the fibre level enables intimate and imperceptible integration, rapidly transforming fibres and fabrics into next-generation wearable devices and systems. In this review, we explore recent scientific and technological breakthroughs in smart fibre-enabled fabrics. We examine common challenges and bottlenecks in fibre materials, physics, chemistry, fabrication strategies, and applications that shape the future of wearable electronics. We propose a closed-loop smart fibre-enabled fabric ecosystem encompassing proactive sensing, interactive communication, data storage and processing, real-time feedback, and energy storage and harvesting, intended to tackle significant challenges in wearable technology. Finally, we envision computing fabrics as sophisticated wearable platforms with system-level attributes for data management, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and closed-loop intelligent networks.

BACKGROUND: Psoriasis is a common immune-mediated skin disease that can involve other organs and tissues, including the oral mucosa. Some studies have found an increased proportion of geographic tongue (GT) and fissured tongue (FT) in patients with psoriasis, which appears to be region-specific. OBJECTIVES: The association of psoriasis with GT/FT in Eastern Asian populations remains unknown. Thus, the authors aimed to investigate the association of psoriasis with GT/FT in the Han population in southwestern China. METHODS: This study was conducted on 230 psoriatics and 230 healthy controls at West China Hospital. The authors compared the proportion of subjects with GT/FT in the two groups and compared age, gender, smoking, alcohol consumption, age at onset of psoriasis, duration of psoriasis, nail and joint involvement, Psoriasis Area and Severity Index, Body Surface Area, Dermatology Life Quality Index, and proportion using biologics in psoriatics with or without GT /FT. RESULTS: The authors have found a strong association between psoriasis and FT (p < 0.001), and a non-significant association between psoriasis and GT (p = 0.760). Compared to psoriasis patients without FT, the authors found that psoriasis patients with FT were older (p = 0.021) and had an increased frequency of late-onset psoriasis (p = 0.014); they also had more severe psoriasis (p = 0.047) and poorer quality of life (p = 0.045). STUDY LIMITATIONS: GT has periods of exacerbation and remission, so the authors cannot avoid a deviation of the prevalence of GT in this study from the true prevalence rate. Also, biologics have been found to lead to remission of GT and FT, which may have influenced the GT/FT ratio in the case group in this study. CONCLUSIONS: Psoriasis was associated with FT in the Han population in southwestern China, attention must be paid to the treatment of psoriatics with FT and skin diseases in patients with FT.

Microplastics, as emerging contaminants, pose a serious threat to terrestrial ecosystems, yet their impact on plant communities remains largely unexplored. This study utilized the soil seed bank to establish naturally germinated plant communities and investigated the effects of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) on community characteristics. Additionally, the study aimed to elucidate the mechanisms by which variations in soil properties influenced plant community. The results indicated that microplastics led to a significant increase in soil available potassium (AK), likely due to alterations in soil microorganism proliferation. Furthermore, microplastics caused a decrease in soil salinity, total phosphorus (TP), and ammonium nitrogen (AN). Additionally, plant community composition shifted, resulting in reduced stability and niche breadth of dominant species. Microplastics also impacted niche overlap and interspecific associations among dominant species, possibly due to the reduced accessibility of resources for dominant species. Salinity, AK, and TP were identified as major drivers of changes in niche breadth, niche overlap, and community stability, with TP exerting the strongest impact on plant community composition. These findings provide valuable insights for the restoration of plant communities in coastal saline-alkali wetland contaminated by microplastics.

BACKGROUND: The adverse prognostic impact of diabetes on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is poorly understood. We sought to explore the underlying mechanisms in terms of structural and functional remodelling in HCM patients with coexisting diabetes (HCM-DM). METHODS: A total of 45 HCM-DM patients were retrospectively included. Isolated HCM controls (HCM patients without diabetes) were matched to HCM-DM patients in terms of maximal wall thickness, age, and gender distribution. Left ventricular (LV) and atrial (LA) performance were evaluated using cardiac magnetic resonance feature tracking strain analyses. The associations between diabetes and LV/LA impairment were investigated by univariable and multivariable linear regression. RESULTS: Compared with the isolated HCM controls, the HCM-DM patients had smaller end-diastolic volume and stroke volume, lower ejection fraction, larger mass/volume ratio and impaired strains in all three directions (all P < 0.05). In terms of the LA parameters, HCM-DM patients presented impaired LA reservoir and conduit strain/strain rate (all P < 0.05). Among all HCM patients, comorbidity with diabetes was independently associated with a low LV ejection fraction (ß = - 6.05, P < 0.001) and impaired global longitudinal strain (ß = 1.40, P = 0.007). Moreover, compared with the isolated HCM controls, HCM-DM patients presented with more myocardial fibrosis according to late gadolinium enhancement, which was an independent predictor of impaired LV global radial strain (ß = - 45.81, P = 0.008), LV global circumferential strain (ß = 18.25, P = 0.003), LA reservoir strain (ß = - 59.20, P < 0.001) and strain rate (ß = - 2.90, P = 0.002). CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes has adverse effects on LV and LA function in HCM patients, which may be important contributors to severe manifestations and outcomes in those patients. The present study strengthened the evidence of the prevention and management of diabetes in HCM patients.

BACKGROUND: Patients with concomitant type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and aortic regurgitation (AR) can present with right ventricular (RV) dysfunction. The current study aimed to evaluate the impact of AR on RV impairment and the importance of ventricular interdependence using cardiac magnetic resonance feature tracking (CMR­FT) in patients with T2DM. METHODS: This study included 229 patients with T2DM (AR-), 88 patients with T2DM (AR+), and 122 healthy controls. The biventricular global radial strain (GRS), global circumferential strain (GCS), and global longitudinal peak strain (GLS) were calculated with CMR­FT and compared among the healthy control, T2DM (AR-), and T2DM (AR+) groups. The RV regional strains at the basal, mid, and apical cavities between the T2DM (AR+) group and subgroups with different AR degrees were compared. Backward stepwise multivariate linear regression analyses were performed to determine the effects of AR and left ventricular (LV) strains on RV strains. RESULTS: The RV GLS, LV GRS, LV GCS, LV GLS, interventricular septal (IVS) GRS and IVS GCS were decreased gradually from the controls through the T2DM (AR-) group to the T2DM (AR+) group. The IVS GLS of the T2DM (AR-) and T2DM (AR+) groups was lower than that of the control group. AR was independently associated with LV GRS, LV GCS, LV GLS, RV GCS, and RV GLS. If AR and LV GLSs were included in the regression analyses, AR and LV GLS were independently associated with RV GLS. CONCLUSION: AR can exacerbate RV dysfunction in patients with T2DM, which may be associated with the superimposed strain injury of the left ventricle and interventricular septum. The RV longitudinal and circumferential strains are important indicators of cardiac injury in T2DM and AR. The unfavorable LV-RV interdependence supports that while focusing on improving LV function, RV dysfunction should be monitored and treated in order to slow the progression of the disease and the onset of adverse outcomes.

Dipines are a type of important antihypertensive drug as L-calcium channel blockers, whose core skeleton is the 1,4-dihydropyridine structure. Since the dihydropyridine ring is a key structural factor for biological activity, the thermodynamics of the aromatization dihydropyridine ring is a significant feature parameter for understanding the mechanism and pathways of dipine metabolism in vivo. Herein, 4-substituted-phenyl-2,6-dimethyl-3,5-diethyl-formate-1,4-dihydropyridines are refined as the structurally closest dipine models to investigate the thermodynamic potential of dipine oxidative metabolism. In this work, the thermodynamic cards of dipine models' aromatization on 21 potential elementary steps in acetonitrile have been established. Based on the thermodynamic cards, the thermodynamic properties of dipine models and related intermediates acting as electrons, hydrides, hydrogen atoms, protons, and two hydrogen ions (atoms) donors are discussed. Moreover, the thermodynamic cards are applied to evaluate the redox properties, and judge or reveal the possible oxidative mechanism of dipine models.

Objective: This study aimed to develop and validate a dynamic nomogram to assess the risk of nasal bleeding after endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection from June 2019 to June 2021. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to screen for independent risk factors for nasal bleeding from the training set. A multivariate logistic regression model was established, a nomogram was plotted, and it was validated in an internal validation set. The performance of the nomogram was evaluated based on the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: The nomogram indicators included anticoagulant use, sphenoid sinus artery injury, nasal irrigation, platelet count (PLT), and constipation. The predictive model had an area under the ROC curve of 0.932 (95% CI: 0.873-0.990) and 0.969 (95% CI: 0.940-0.997) for the training and validation sets, respectively, indicating good discrimination. The calibration curve showed good consistency between the actual and predicted incidence of nasal bleeding (p > 0.05). DCA indicated that the nomogram had good clinical net benefit in predicting postoperative nasal bleeding in patients. Conclusion: In summary, this study explored the incidence and influencing factors of nasal bleeding after endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection and established a predictive model to assist clinical decision-making.

Identifying the essential factors and underlying mechanisms regulating plant heat stress (HS) responses is crucial for mitigating the threat posed by HS on plant growth, development, distribution, and productivity. Here, we found that the Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) super-killer2 (ski2) dicer-like4 (dcl4) mutant, characterized by RNA processing defects and accumulation of abundant 22-nt small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) derived from protein-coding transcripts, displayed significantly increased expression levels of HS-responsive genes and enhanced thermotolerance. These traits primarily resulted from the suppression of SMAX1-LIKE4 (SMXL4) and SMXL5, which encode two putative transcriptional regulators that belong to the SMXL protein family. While smxl4 and smxl5 single mutants were similar to wild type, the smxl4 smxl5 double mutant displayed substantially heightened seedling thermotolerance. Further investigation demonstrated that SMXL4 and SMXL5 repressed the transcription of HEAT SHOCK TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR A2 (HSFA2), encoding a master regulator of thermotolerance, independently of EAR motifs. Moreover, SMXL4 and SMXL5 interacted with HSFA1d and HSFA1e, central regulators sensing and transducing HS stimuli, and antagonistically affected their transactivation activity. In addition, HSFA2 directly bound to the SMXL4 and SMXL5 promoters, inducing their expression during recovery from HS. Collectively, our findings elucidate the role of the SMXL4/SMXL5-HSFA2 regulatory module in orchestrating plant thermotolerance under HS.

The concept of a healthy lifestyle is receiving increasing attention. This study sought to identify an optimal healthy lifestyle profile associated with sleep health in general population of China. An online cross-sectional survey was conducted from June to July 2022. Six healthy lifestyle factors were assessed: healthy diet, regular physical exercise, never smoking, never drinking alcohol, low sedentary behavior, and normal weight. Participants were categorized into the healthy lifestyle (5-6 factors), average (3-4 factors), and unhealthy lifestyle groups (0-2 factors). The study's primary outcome was sleep health, which included sleep quality, duration, pattern, and the presence of any sleep disorder or disturbance, including insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, obstructive apnea syndrome, and narcolepsy. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was applied to explore lifestyles associated with the selected sleep health outcomes. 41,061 individuals were included, forming 18.8% healthy, 63.8% average, and 17.4% unhealthy lifestyle groups. After adjusting for covariates, participants with healthy lifestyle were associated with a higher likelihood of good sleep quality (OR = 1.56, 95% CI = 1.46-1.68), normal sleep duration (OR = 1.60, 95% CI = 1.49-1.72), healthy sleep pattern (OR = 2.15, 95% CI = 2.00-2.31), and lower risks of insomnia (OR = 0.66, 95% CI = 0.61-0.71), excessive daytime sleepiness (OR = 0.66, 95% CI = 0.60-0.73), and obstructive apnea syndrome (OR = 0.40, 95% CI = 0.37-0.43), but not narcolepsy (OR = 0.92, 95% CI = 0.83-1.03), compared to those with unhealthy lifestyle. This large cross-sectional study is the first to our knowledge to quantify the associations of a healthy lifestyle with specific aspects of sleep health. The findings offer support for efforts to improve sleep health by modulating lifestyle.

Despite the potential of neutralizing antibodies in the management of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), clinical research on its efficacy in Chinese patients remains limited. This study is aimed at investigating the therapeutic effect of combination of antiviral therapy with neutralizing monoclonal antibodies for recurrent persistent SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia in patients with lymphoma complicated by B cell depletion. A prospective study was conducted on Chinese patients who were treated with antiviral nirmatrelvir/ritonavir therapy and the neutralizing antibody tixagevimab-cilgavimab (tix-cil). The primary outcome was the rate of recurrent SARS-CoV-2 infection. Five patients with lymphoma experienced recurrent SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia and received tix-cil treatment. All patients had a history of CD20 monoclonal antibody use within the year preceding SARS-CoV-2 infection, and two patients also had a history of Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTK) inhibitor use. These patients had notably low lymphocyte counts and exhibited near depletion of B cells. All five patients tested negative for serum SARS-CoV-2 IgG and IgM antibodies. None of the patients developed reinfection with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia after antiviral and tix-cil treatment during the 6-month follow-up period. In conclusion, the administration of antiviral and SARS-CoV-2-neutralizing antibodies showed encouraging therapeutic efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia in patients with lymphoma complicated by B cell depletion, along with the potential preventive effect of neutralizing antibodies for up to 6 months.

BACKGROUND: Childhood trauma is closely tied to adult depression, but the neurobiological mechanisms remain unclear. Previous studies suggested associations between depression and large-scale brain networks such as the Ventral Attention Network (VAN) and Somatosensory Motor Network (SMN). This study hypothesized that functional connectivity (FC) within and between these networks mediates the link between childhood trauma and adult depression. METHODS: The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) assessed developmental experiences, and the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAMD-17) gauged depressive symptoms. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) analyzed FC within and between the VAN and SMN. RESULTS: Depression group exhibited significantly higher HAMD and CTQ scores, as well as elevated FC within the VAN and between the VAN and SMN (P < 0.05). Positive correlations were found between HAMD total score and FC within the VAN (P < 0.05, r = 0.35) and between the VAN and SMN (P < 0.05, r = 0.34), as well as with CTQ total score (P < 0.05, r = 0.27). Positive correlations were also observed between CTQ total score and FC within the VAN (P < 0.05, r = 0.31) and between the VAN and SMN (P < 0.05, r = 0.29). In the mediation model, FC within and between the VAN and SMN significantly mediated childhood trauma and depression. LIMITATIONS: The cross-sectional design limits causal inference. The sample size for different trauma types is relatively small, urging caution in generalizing findings. CONCLUSIONS: The study underscores the association between depression severity, VAN dysfunction, abnormal VAN-SMN FC, and childhood trauma. These findings contribute to understanding the neurobiological mechanisms underlying childhood trauma and depression.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the influence of unilateral open disc repositioning surgery (ODRS) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) on the internal derangement (ID) of the contralateral joint. METHODS: Patients with bilateral ID of TMJ who underwent unilateral ODRS were enrolled and followed-up for one year. They were divided into two groups based on the contralateral disease: the anterior disc displacement with reduction (ADDWR) and without reduction (ADDWoR). Postoperative evaluation included clinical and MRI evaluation. Indices measured were unilateral intermaxillary distance (UID), visual analogue scale (VAS), disc length (DL), condylar height (CH), and disc-condyle angle (DCA). Paired t tests were used to compare the clinical and MRI indices between different time points. RESULTS: Ninety-six patients were enrolled, including 47 in the ADDWR group and 49 in the ADDWoR group. One-year post-surgery, ODRS led to significant increases in MMO, DL, and CH, and decrease in VAS and DCA on the operated side (P < 0.05). In ADDWR group, UID, DL, and CH increased significantly, and VAS decreased (P < 0.05), with no significant change in DCA (P > 0.05). In ADDWoR group, clinical and MRI variables worsened slightly, except for UID, which remained unchanged (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: ODRS is a promising method for correcting TMJ ID and may improve condition of ADDWR and decrease progress of ADDWoR at the contralateral joint. Preoperative bilateral TMJ evaluation is essential for better outcomes. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: ODRS can effectively treat TMJ ID and produce adaptive changes in the contralateral ID, for which continuous monitoring of the contralateral joint is essential.

Objective: Many young male cancer patients experience reproductive concerns. Self-disclosure might be able to improve patients' perceived social support and reproductive concerns. Nevertheless, these relationships have not yet been confirmed among young male cancer patients. This study aims to investigate the level of reproductive concerns and to identify the mediating role of perceived social support between self-disclosure and reproductive concerns among young male cancer patients in China by developing a structural model. Methods: This study was a quantitative, cross-sectional design. We used the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) statement guidelines to report this study. A total of 369 young male cancer survivors were recruited by convenience sampling from two tertiary hospitals in Taiyuan, Shanxi, China. Data were collected using a "general data questionnaire", "distress disclosure index" (DDI), "perceived social support scale" (PSSS), and "reproductive concerns after cancer-male" (RCAC-M) via the WeChat mini program "Questionnaire Star" and paper questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analyses, and structural equation models were adopted to analyze the data. Results: Reproductive concerns were at moderate levels and negatively associated with self-disclosure (r = -0.619, P < 0.01) and perceived social support (r = -0.599, P < 0.01). Self-disclosure indirectly influenced reproductive concerns (-0.328∼-0.159, P < 0.001) through perceived social support. Conclusions: Self-disclosure and perceived social support are closely associated with reproductive concerns in young male cancer patients, and perceived social support is a mediator between self-disclosure and reproductive concerns. Healthcare providers could reduce reproductive concerns by enhancing self-disclosure and improving perceived social support. Red palm weevil (RPW) (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) threatens most palm species worldwide. This study investigated the molecular responses of coconut (Cocos nucifera) leaves to RPW infestation through metabolomics and transcriptomics analysis. An RPW insect attack model was developed by placing different RPW larval densitiesin coconut plants and measuring the relative chlorophyll content of different leaf positions and physiological indicators of dysfunction after RPW infestation. The metabolomic changes were detected in the leaves of 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 days after infestation (DAI) using GC-MS. Certain metabolites (glycine, D-pinitol, lauric acid, allylmalonic acid, D-glucaro-1, 4-lactone, protocatechuic acid, alpha, and alpha-trehalose) were found to be possible indicators for distinct stages of infestation using metabolomics analysis. The influence on ABC transporters, glutathione, galactose, and glycolipid metabolism was emphasized by pathway analysis. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified at 5, 10, 15, and 20 DAI through transcriptomics analysis of infested coconut leaves, with altered expression levels under RPW infestation. The KEGG pathway and GO analysis revealed enrichment in pathways related to metabolism, stress response, and plant-pathogen interactions, shedding light on the intricate mechanisms underlying coconut-RPW interactions. The identified genes may serve as potential markers for tracking RPW infestation progression and could inform strategies for pest control and management.

Developing high active and stable cost-effective bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting to produce hydrogen is of vital significance in clean and sustainable energy development. This work has prepared a novel porous unreported MOF (Ni-DPT) as a precursor to successfully synthesize a non-noble bifunctional NiCoP/Ni12P5@NF electrocatalyst through doping strategy and interface engineering. This catalyst is constructed by layered self-supporting arrays with heterojunction interface and rich nitrogen-phosphorus doping. Structural characterizations and the density function theory (DFT) calculations confirm that the interface effect of NiCoP/Ni12P5 heterojunction can regulate the electronic structure of the catalyst to optimize the Gibbs free energy of hydrogen (ΔGH*); simultaneously, the defect-rich layered nanoarrays can expose more active sites, shorten mass transfer distance, and generate a self-supporting structure for in-situ reinforcing the structural stability. As a result, this NiCoP/Ni12P5@NF catalyst exhibits favorable electrocatalytic performance, which simply needs overpotentials of 100 mV for HER and 310 mV for OER, respectively, at a current density of 10 mA·cm-2. The anion exchange membrane electrolyzer assembled with this NiCoP/Ni12P5@NF as both anode and cathode catalysts can operate stably for 200 h at a current density of 100 mA·cm-2 with an insignificant voltage decrease. This work may provide some inspiration for the further rational design of inexpensive non-noble multifunctional electrocatalysts and electrode materials for water splitting to generate hydrogen.

Adopting a non-covalent co-assembly strategy shows great potential in loading drugs efficiently and safely in drug delivery systems. However, finding an efficient method for developing high strength gels with thixotropic characteristics is still challenging. In this work, by hybridizing the low molecular weight gelator fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl-phenylalanine (Fmoc-F) (first single network, 1st SN) and alginate (second single network, 2nd SN) into a dual network (DN) gel, gels with high strength as well as thixotropy were prepared efficiently. The DN gels showed high strength (103 Pa in SN gels and 105 Pa in DN gels) and thixotropic characteristics (yield strain <25%; recovery ratio >85% within 100 seconds). The application performance was verified by loading doxorubicin (DOX), showing better encapsulation capacity (77.06% in 1st SN, 59.11% in 2nd SN and 96.71% in DN) and sustained release performance (lasting one week under physiological conditions) than single network gels. Experimental and DFT results allowed the elaboration of the specific non-covalent co-assembly mechanism for DN gel formation and DOX loading. The DN gels were formed by co-assembly driven by H-bond and π-π stacking interactions and then strengthened by Ca2+-coupling. Most DOX molecules co-assembled with Fmoc-F and alginate through π-π stacking and H-bond interactions (DOX-I), with a few free DOX molecules (DOX-II) left. Proven by the release dynamics test, DOX was released through a diffusion-erosion process, in an order of DOX-I first and then DOX-II. This work suggests that non-covalent co-assembly is a useful technique for effective material strengthening and drug delivery.

Two-photon fluorescence lifetime microscopy (TP-FLIM) is a powerful quantitative imaging technique that characterizes and analyzes the structure and function of biological samples through a combination of intensity and lifetime imaging. Because TP-FLIM is independent of the fluorescence signal intensity and the fluorophore concentration, it is widely used in high-throughput, high-content drug screening and clinical diagnostics. Second harmonic generation (SHG) imaging technology has the advantages of high spatial resolution and imaging depth inherent to nonlinear optical imaging. Second harmonics often appear in noncentrosymmetric structures. Collagen tissue in biological organisms is a good example of these structures, showing strong harmonic effects. Therefore, SHG has been widely used for imaging of specific tissue structure imaging. TP-FLIM technology is highly sensitive for quantitatively detecting changes in microenvironments. The objective of this study is to examine pathological pulmonary fibrosis slices using a combined approach of TP-FLIM and SHG technology. The fluorescence lifetime data of pulmonary collagen fibers are analyzed by using phasor plot analysis methods, and normal collagen fibers and fibrotic collagen fibers are distinguished by calculating the aspect ratio from the SHG images formed by the collagen fibers. Our study provides a new method for a deeper understanding of the pathological mechanisms and clinical diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis and other collagen fiber-related disorders.

BACKGROUND: The objective of antiviral therapy for chronic viral hepatitis B infection (CHB) is to achieve a functional cure. An important viral marker in the serum of patients with CHB is the serum hepatitis B core-related antigen (HBcrAg). However, there is limited research on HBcrAg in juvenile patients with CHB. In this study, we aimed to investigate the correlation between serum HBcrAg and other hepatitis B virus (HBV) markers in children with CHB and its predictive significance for prognosis during antiviral therapy. METHODS: A single-center retrospective study was conducted involving 79 children with CHB, aged between 0 and 16 years. All the children were treated with interferon [or combined nucleos(t)ide analogs] for 48 weeks. HBcrAg, hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), and HBV DNA were measured before treatment, and at 12 and 48 weeks after treatment. The enrolled children were classified into the seroclearance group and the nonseroclearance group based on the therapeutic outcome. RESULTS: HBsAg seroclearance was observed in 28 out of 79 patients and hepatitis B e antigen seroconversion without HBsAg seroclearance was observed in 14 out of 79 patients following the conclusion of the treatment, with baseline HBcrAg titer levels showing no statistical significance in both the seroclearance and nonseroclearance groups (P = 0.277). HBsAg and HBV DNA were positively correlated with HBcrAg in children with CHB (R2 = 0.3289, 0.4388). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of the decrease in HBcrAg at 12 weeks of treatment as a predictor of seroclearance at 48 weeks of treatment, exhibited a value of 0.77. CONCLUSION: A decrease in serum HBcrAg levels in children with hepatitis B serves as a prognostic indicator.
