RESUMEN

The excessive CO2 emission has gained global attentions due to its potential effects on climate change, plant nutrition deterioration, and human health and safety. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) featured with high specific surface area, adjustable pore size, and tailorable morphology have been widely applied for CO2 capture. However, some drawbacks of poor mechanical stability and uneven distribution of mesopores limit their further applications. Herein, we demonstrate a one-step synthesis of bimetallic center framework (OSSBCF) and pore reconstruction (PRC) strategy to prepare the hierarchical porous Zn/Co-ZIF@ANF aerogels. This unique design achieves the construction of efficient gas transfer channels and creates massive micropores with abundant Lewis basic adsorption sites. Benefiting from theses merits, the bimetallic Zn/Co-ZIF@ANF aerogels demonstrate high MOFs loading mass of 47.51 wt%, high specific surface area of 686.39 m2g-1, and large porosity of 99.31 %. Moreover, the bimetallic Zn/Co-ZIF@ANF aerogels exhibit an enhanced CO2 adsorption capacity of 5.99 mmol/g and CO2/N2 adsorption selectivity of 35 at 25 °C and 1 bar. The CO2 capacity of bimetallic Zn/Co-ZIF@ANF aerogels keep up to 95.19 % after ten cycles of CO2 adsorption, indicating the excellent long-term recycle stability. Therefore, this study provides a promising strategy to engineer hierarchical porous bimetallic MOF aerogels toward practical CO2 capture.

Objective: To determine the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave (ESW) combined with autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy on knee osteoarthritis (KOA) with meniscus injury in terms of pain relief, functional outcome and complications. Methods: This is a retrospective observational study. Clinical data of 144 patients with KOA accompanied by medial meniscus injury, who received treatment in Jilin Provincial People's Hospital from March 2021 to December 2022, were retrospectively evaluated. A total of 128 patients (81 males and 47 females) were finally included in the study after screening. Of them, 45 patients received PRP treatment (PRP-group), 43 patients received ESW treatment (ESW-group), and 40 patients received ESW combined with PRP treatment (Combined-group). The relief of knee joint pain and functional improvement among three groups of patients were compared. Results: After treatment, visual analogue scale (VAS), Lequesne, and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) scores of patients in the Combined-group were significantly lower than those in the other two groups (p<0.05). Combined ESW-PRP treatment was associated with significantly greater joint range of motion of patients compared to ESW and PRP alone (p<0.05). The total incidence of related complications in the Combined-group was lower compared to the other two groups (p<0.05). Conclusions: Compared with PRP or ESW treatment alone, ESW combined with PRP for KOA with meniscus injury can better alleviate pain, achieve faster functional recovery, and significantly reduce complications.

Autotoxins secreted by roots into the soil can trigger rhizosphere microecological imbalances and affect root secretory properties resulting in conditions such as replanting disease. However, information on the effect of autotoxins on root secretion characteristics and regulation of the composition of rhizosphere microorganisms by altered root exudates is limited. In this study, autotoxin ρ-hydroxybenzoic acid (4-HBA) was added to the soil of potted grapevine seedlings, CO2 pulse-labeling, and DNA stable isotope probing were used to track the rhizosphere microbiome that assimilates root exudates. Bacterial and fungal microbiomes that assimilated plant-derived carbon were identified by high-throughput sequencing. Results showed that 4-HBA treatment altered bacterial and fungal communities in 13C-labeled organisms, with a lower abundance of beneficial bacteria (e.g., Gemmatimonas, Streptomyces, and Bacillus) and a higher abundance of potential pathogen fungi (e.g., Fusarium, Neocosmospora, Gibberella, and Fusicolla) by changing the composition of root exudates. The exogenous addition of upregulated compound mixtures of root exudates reduced the abundance of beneficial bacterial Bacillus and increased the abundance of potential pathogen fungi Gibberella. These results suggest that 4-HBA can alter root secretion properties and altered root exudates may enrich certain potential pathogens and reduce certain beneficial bacteria, thereby unbalancing the structure of the rhizosphere microbial community.

Infectious bursal disease (IBD) is a highly contagious immunocompromising disorder that caused great economic losses in the poultry industry. The field-level control over IBD is primarily via vaccination. The development of a highly effective IBV vaccine has drawn great attention worldwide. Chitosan/Calcium Phosphate (CS/CaP) nanoparticle was a newly developed effective biological delivery system for drug and antigen. Ginsenoside Rb1 is one of the main bioactive components of ginseng root extract, which has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunological enhancement effects. Until now, the combined effect of CS/CaP and ginsenoside Rb1 on the chicken immune response had remained unknown. In this study, the GRb1 and IL-4 were encapsulated into Calcium phosphate and chitosan core structure nanoparticles microspheres (GRb1/IL-4@CS/CaP), and the effect of a newly developed delivery system on an infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) attenuated vaccine was further evaluated. The results demonstrated that GRb1/IL-4@CS/CaP treatment could induce the activation of chicken dendritic cells (DCs), with the upregulated expression of MHCII and CD80, and the increased production of IL-1ß and TNF-α. Importantly, GRb1/IL-4@CS/CaP could trigger a higher level of IBDV-specific IgG and a higher ratio of IgG2a/IgG1 than the traditional adjuvant groups, promoting the production of cytokine, including IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-4, IL-6, IL-1α, and IL-1ß, in chicken serum after 28 d and 42 d post-vaccine. Taken in all, GRb1/IL-4@CS/CaP could elicit prolonged vigorous immune responses for IBDV attenuated vaccine in chicken, which might provide an effective adjuvant system for avian vaccine development.

Endophytic fungus represents microorganisms existing within the healthy plant organs, which can significantly influence metabolic product production in plants, a process with great research value and broad prospects for development. To investigate the effect of fermentation with probiotic cultures on the endophytic fungal diversity and composition of Astragalus membranaceus, we used single-molecular, real-time sequencing (Pacific Biosciences) for 18S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) sequencing. The results showed that the endophytic fungi of A. membranaceus mainly belonged to Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cystofilobasidium, Candida, Guehomyces, and Wallemia. Furthermore, the endophytic fungal diversity and abundance of A. membranaceus were more variable after fermentation with Enterococcus faecium and/or Lactobacillus plantarum. Our data lays a solid and comprehensive foundation for further exploration of endophytic fungi from A. membranaceus as potential sources of functional compounds.

Obesity has become a serious global public health problem; a deeper understanding of systemic change of chromatin accessibility during human adipogenesis contributes to conquering obesity and its related diseases. Here, we applied the ATAC-seq method to depict a high-quality genome-wide time-resolved accessible chromatin atlas during adipogenesis of human adipose-derived stem cells (hASCs). Our data indicated that the chromatin accessibility drastic dynamically reformed during the adipogenesis of hASCs and 8 h may be the critical transition node of adipogenesis chromatin states from commitment phase to determination phase. Moreover, upon adipogenesis, we also found that the chromatin accessibility of regions related to anti-apoptotic, angiogenic and immunoregulatory gradually increased, which is beneficial to maintaining the health of adipose tissue (AT). Finally, the chromatin accessibility changed significantly in intronic regions of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ during adipogenesis, and these regions were rich in transcription factors binding motifs that were exposed for further regulation. Overall, we systematically analysed the complex change of chromatin accessibility occurring in the early stage of adipogenesis and deepened our understanding of human adipogenesis. Furthermore, we also provided a good reference data resource of genome-wide chromatin accessibility for future studies on human adipogenesis.

Transformation equivariant representations (TERs) aim to capture the intrinsic visual structures that equivary to various transformations by expanding the notion of translation equivariance underlying the success of convolutional neural networks (CNNs). For this purpose, we present both deterministic AutoEncoding Transformations (AET) and probabilistic AutoEncoding Variational Transformations (AVT) models to learn visual representations from generic groups of transformations. While the AET is trained by directly decoding the transformations from the learned representations, the AVT is trained by maximizing the joint mutual information between the learned representation and transformations. This results in generalized TERs (GTERs) equivariant against transformations in a more general fashion by capturing complex patterns of visual structures beyond the conventional linear equivariance under a transformation group. The presented approach can be extended to (semi-)supervised models by jointly maximizing the mutual information of the learned representation with both labels and transformations. Experiments demonstrate the proposed models outperform the state-of-the-art models in both unsupervised and (semi-)supervised tasks. Moreover, we show that the unsupervised representation can even surpass the fully supervised representation pretrained on ImageNet when they are fine-tuned for the object detection task.

Designing and identifying a dopant-involved material is quite significant, especially for battery science. LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4, being one of the most appealing candidates for high-potential lithium-ion batteries, has attracted immense attention and been investigated with Al or F dopants for its undesirable inherent structural challenges. Although the excellent performance of Al- or F-doped LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 has been reported previously, the relationship between dopants, structural variation, and electrochemistry has not been fully identified. Hence, synchronous time-resolved XRD techniques are applied for identifying a guideline of the phase variations in cathodic (Al3+)- and anodic (F-)-substituted LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4, which revealed a three-phase evolution as a function of structural stability. Also, the Al-substituted materials exhibit excellent reactivity and stability, which can be clearly identified via the stable buffer phase existing in high power density or after long cycling due to the improvement in reaction kinetics of phase transition and the lithium-ion diffusion coefficient, just opposite to F doping. This provides a good guideline for identifying an element-modulated mechanism of reactivity or stability of materials science.

BACKGROUND: The clinical performance of fetal inflammatory response syndrome (FIRS) is often atypical. The aim of this meta-analysis is to investigate whether FIRS is associated with adverse neonatal outcomes. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library were used in this study. The adverse neonatal outcomes data including neonatal early-onset sepsis (EOS), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and neonatal death were collected to make analysis. RESULTS: A total of 10 articles (1116 patients) were included in this study. Compared to the non-FIRS group, the FIRS group was associated with higher incidence of adverse neonatal outcomes, such as EOS (RR = 3.10, 95% CI: 1.26, 7.65; p=.014), BPD (RR = 5.93, 95% CI = 4.35, 8,08; p < .001), IVH (RR = 4.89, 95% CI = 2.96, 8.08; p < .001), PVL (RR = 3.32, 95% CI: 1.73, 6.40; p < .001), RDS (2.35, 95% CI = 1.67, 3.31; p < .001), and the neonatal death (RR = 7.04, 95% CI: 3.34, 14.85; p < .001). CONCLUSIONS: The FIRS is associated with higher incidence of adverse neonatal outcomes, and is a risk factor of severe neonatal morbidity or death.

The present study was performed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with Lactobacillus plantarum (CGMCC1.557) on egg production and fecal microbiota composition in laying hens. Sixty Hy-Line Brown laying hens (18 weeks old) were randomly divided into two groups. The control group was fed a basal diet only, and the test group was fed basal diet supplemented with a final concentration of 1.0 × 109 CFU/mL during the 10-week experimental period. Egg production and fecal microbiota composition were both assessed in 28-week-old hens using high-throughput sequencing technology. The results showed that, compared with the control group, the test group exhibited increased laying and feed intake rates (p < 0.05). At the genus level, Lactobacillus was more abundant in the test group compared with the control group (p < 0.05). Conversely, Romboutsia was more abundant in the control group compared with the test group (p < 0.05). This study provides us with an insight into the potential use of L. plantarum as a food supplement in the laying hen industry. the study also provides us with a better understanding of the interplay between L. plantarum and the fecal microbiota of laying hens.

The efficiency of photoluminescence (PL) of transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) significantly influences their practical applications in optoelectronic devices. In this work, we study multiple coupling among excitons, surface plasmons, and optical modes, and their effects on PL of monolayer MoS2 atop plasmonic nanohole arrays. Under the illumination of visible light, strong intensity enhancement of PL from monolayer MoS2 is observed in the system. We further demonstrate that there exist excitons induced from MoS2, localized and propagating surface plasmons excited from nanoholes, and optical modes related to the incident laser. And hybrid coupling of those modes significantly improves the PL signals and also lightens the PL images of monolayer MoS2. This work provides a unique way to improve the emission of monolayer TMDCs. The atomically thin TMDCs coupled to plasmonic metamaterials are also promising for advanced applications such as ultrathin integrated light-emission diodes, photodetection, and nanolasers.

Echinoderms exhibit several fascinating evolutionary innovations that are rarely seen in the animal kingdom, but how these animals attained such features is not well understood. Here we report the sequencing and analysis of the genome and extensive transcriptomes of the sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus, a species from a special echinoderm group with extraordinary potential for saponin synthesis, aestivation and organ regeneration. The sea cucumber does not possess a reorganized Hox cluster as previously assumed for all echinoderms, and the spatial expression of Hox7 and Hox11/13b potentially guides the embryo-to-larva axial transformation. Contrary to the typical production of lanosterol in animal cholesterol synthesis, the oxidosqualene cyclase of sea cucumber produces parkeol for saponin synthesis and has "plant-like" motifs suggestive of convergent evolution. The transcriptional factors Klf2 and Egr1 are identified as key regulators of aestivation, probably exerting their effects through a clock gene-controlled process. Intestinal hypometabolism during aestivation is driven by the DNA hypermethylation of various metabolic gene pathways, whereas the transcriptional network of intestine regeneration involves diverse signaling pathways, including Wnt, Hippo and FGF. Decoding the sea cucumber genome provides a new avenue for an in-depth understanding of the extraordinary features of sea cucumbers and other echinoderms.

The gut microbiota play important roles in the degradation of chemical compounds of herbal medicines (HMs). However, little information regarding the interplay between HMs and the gut microbiota is available. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the composition of the fecal microbiota of young (age, 11 weeks) hens fed a conventional diet containing a crude Astragalus (0.5%) additive for 21 days (group A) vs. controls (group B) that were fed only conventional feed. The fecal contents of 14-week-old hens were collected for DNA extraction, and then the V3 and V4 hyper-variable regions of the 16S rRNA gene were amplified and analyzed using high-throughput sequencing technology. A distinctive difference in microbial diversity was observed between the two groups. The microbial composition of hens fed a diet supplemented with Astragalus was greater than that of the control group. At the genus level, Lactobacillus was more abundant in group A than group B (p < 0.05). Importantly, this study is the first to report the observation of a novel Romboutsia sp. in the feces of hens. However, Romboutsia was less abundant in group A than group B (17.94 vs. 33.98%, respectively, p < 0.05). The microbial community differed significantly between the two groups at the genus level, suggesting that Astragalus modulates the composition of the fecal microbiota. Based on these differences, these findings provide fresh insights into the application of Astragalus in the poultry industry, as well as a better understanding of the interplay between HMs and the gut microbiota.

Physiological aging is associated with a range of medical problems. However, the treatment of aging-associated diseases and prolonging human life are vital to our current aging societies. Panax ginseng, a traditional Chinese medicine, has been shown to have anti-oxidative and anti-aging effects. In the current study, aging rats induced by d-galactose were administered ginsenoside Rg1, then splenocytes and thymocytes were extracted and changes in activity were detected. The results demonstrated that compared with the d-gal group, the level of advanced glycation end products (AGE), the ratio of splenocytes and thymocytes in G0 phase (%), and apoptosis (%) of splenocytes and thymocytes, the ratio (%) of SA-gal positive splenocytes and thymocytes, the content of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA), the ratio of glutathione (GSH) to oxidized glutathione (GSSG) and senescence-associated protein expression were significantly decreased and the index of the spleen and thymus, the proportion of white pulp in the spleen, the proportion of cortex in the thymus, the content of interleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-6 (IL-6), granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), and the proliferative capacity of splenocytes and thymocytes were increased in the Rg1+ d-gal group. These findings demonstrated that ginsenoside Rg1 may antagonize spleen and thymus damage in d-galactose-induced aging rats by alleviating oxidative stress injury and down-regulating the expression of senescence-associated protein.

RESUMEN

The complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Schizothorax curilabiatus was determined and analyzed. This mitochondrial genome was 16,578bp in length and showed significant AT bias (55.5% AT content, 44.5% GC content). Phylogenetic analysis showed that S. curilabiatus is more closely related to S. oconnori than to other species. The complete mitochondrial genome sequence provides an important dataset for the exploration of mitochondrial inheritance mechanism.

The complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Gymnocypris selincuoensis was determined and analyzed. This mitochondrial genome was 16,728bp in length and consisted of 37genes in the typical vertebrate mitochondrial gene arrangement. Phylogenetic analysis showed that G. selincuoensis is more closely related to G. namensis than to other species.

Taking the tissue-cultured seedlings of grape cultivar Red Globe as test objects, this paper examined the effects of their root aqueous extracts on seedling's growth, with the allelochemicals identified by LC-MS. The results showed that 0.02 g x ml(-1) (air-dried root mass in aqueous extracts volume; the same below), 0.1 g x ml(-1), and 0.2 g x ml(-1) of the aqueous extracts inhibited the growth of the seedlings significantly, and the inhibition effect increased with increasing concentration of the extracts. The identified allelochemicals of the extracts included p-hydroxybenzoic acid, salicylic acid, phenylpropionic acid, and coumaric acid. Pot experiment showed that different concentration (0.1, 1, and 10 mmol x L(-1)) salicylic acid and phenylpropionic acid inhibited the seedling' s growth remarkably. With the increasing concentration of the two acids, the plant height, stem diameter, shoot- and root fresh mass, leaf net photosynthetic rate and starch content, and root activity of the seedlings decreased, while the leaf soluble sugar and MDA contents increased. No obvious change pattern was observed in leaf protein content.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of staged surgical treatment on central cord syndrome of the cervical spine. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted in 36 cases of central cord syndrome of the cervical spine treated with staged surgery. The patients (aged 50 to 79 years, mean 56.9 years) were divided into group A (50 to 64 years old, n=20) and group B (above 65 years old, n=16), and each group was further divided into 2 subgroups according to the range of decompression in the second stage, namely A1, B1 and A2, B2. ASIA motor score (AMS) was analyzed before the first-stage surgery, before the second-stage surgery and at the last follow-up after the second-stage surgery. RESULTS: All the surgeries were performed successfully. The patients were followed up for 12 to 32 months (mean 18.4 months) after the second-stage surgery. After the first-stage surgery, the AMS was 75.8-/+14.6 in group A, 73.2-/+13.1 in group B, 78.5-/+10.2 in group A1, 76.8-/+9.5 in group A2, 72.2-/+12.6 in group B1 and 77.4-/+18.3 in group B2. The AMS at the last follow-up was 90.7-/+10.5 in group A, 89.5-/+12.4 in group B, 91.3-/+13.2 in group A1, 90.7-/+14.8 in group A2, 88.5-/+11.2 in group B1 and 92.4-/+13.6 in group B2. There was no significant difference between groups A and B or between the subgroups A1 and A2 and groups B1 and group B2. The AMS was 75.8-/+14.6 after the first-stage surgery and 90.7-/+10.5 at the last follow-up in group A, significantly higher than those in group B (73.2-/+13.1 and 89.5-/+12.4, respectively, P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Staged surgery is effective for treatment of central cord syndrome of the cervical spine, and the effect of the surgery is not related to the patients' age or the range of decompression.

Rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soil samples were collected from the vineyards having been planted for 3 and 30 years, and PCR-DGGE technique was adopted to study the effects of grape-replanting on the population structure and diversity of soil bacteria and fungi. The bacterial and fungal diversities were higher in 30-year-planted vineyard than in 3-year-planted vineyard, and higher in rhizosphere soil than in non-rhizosphere soil. After 30 years replanting, the population structure of bacteria and fungi approached the same in rhizosphere soil and non-rhizosphere soil but differed from that in fallow soil; while in the 3-year-planted vineyard, the population structure in rhizosphere soil was different from that in non-rhizosphere soil and fallow soil. Comparing with that in 3-year-planted vineyard, the rhizosphere soil microbial population in 30-year-planted vineyard had a greater change. In bacterial population, Flavobacterium sp. (DQ339585) and Bacillus sp. (AY039821) decreased while Pedobacter sp. (AJ871084) increased; in fungal population, Omphalina farinolens (EF413029) appeared, Pestalotiopsis sp. (DQ657877, DQ657875, DQ657871), Phacidium lacerum (DQ470976), and Lecythophora decumbens (AF353597) decreased, while Pilidium acerinum voucher (AY48709) increased. Bacillus sp., Flavobacterium sp. , and Pestalotiopsis sp. had antagonism to pathogen, and their decrease reduced the resistance of grape against pathogen. The increase of Pilidium acerinum voucher might relate to the severe disease after grape-replanting.
