Suspended atmospheric microplastics (SAMPs) display varying occurrence characteristics on different underlying surfaces in urban areas. This study investigated the occurrence characteristics, source apportionment, and transportation patterns of SAMPs in two typical underlying surfaces: the downtown area (Site T) and the industrial area (Site C) of a coastal city in China. In the spring of 2023, a total of 32 types comprising 1325 SAMPs were detected. The average MP abundances were found to be 3.74 ± 2.86 n/m3 in Site T and 2.67 ± 1.68 n/m3 in Site C. In Site T, SAMPs attributed to living source constituted 78.05%, while industry was the main source in Site C with a proportion reaching 42.89%, consistent with the functional zoning of the underlying surface. Furthermore, HYSPLIT analysis revealed that there was no significant difference between these two sites in long-distance horizontal transport affected by external airflow regardless of altitude; conversely, PCA indicated a notable correlation between vertical velocity and both abundance and species diversity. According to the hourly average wind speeds, the maximum transmission distance was computed as 350 km for updraft and the minimum transmission distances was as low as 32 m for downdraft. Subsequently, the coincidence between the source proportion of SAMPs on random day and meteorological parameters confirmed the synergistic impact on SAMPs transport influenced by functional zoning, geographic environment, and vertical velocity.

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: Alcohol consumption has complex effects on diabetes and metabolic disease, but there is widespread heterogeneity within populations and the specific reasons are unclear. Genetic factors may play a role and warrant exploration. The aim of this study was to elucidate genetic variants modulating the impact of alcohol consumption on insulin sensitivity and pancreatic beta cell function within populations presenting normal glucose tolerance (NGT). METHODS: We recruited 4194 volunteers in Nanjing, 854 in Jurong and an additional 5833 in Nanjing for Discovery cohorts 1 and 2 and a Validation cohort, respectively. We performed an OGTT on all participants, establishing a stringent NGT group, and then assessed insulin sensitivity and beta cell function. Alcohol consumption was categorised as abstinent, light-to-moderate (<210 g per week) or heavy (≥210 g per week). After excluding ineligible individuals, an exploratory genome-wide association study identified potential variants interacting with alcohol consumption in 1862 NGT individuals. These findings were validated in an additional cohort of 2169 NGT individuals. Cox proportional hazard regression was further employed to evaluate the effect of the interaction between the potential variants and alcohol consumption on the risk of type 2 diabetes within the UK Biobank cohort. RESULTS: A significant correlation was observed between drinking levels and insulin sensitivity, accompanied by a consequent inverse relationship with insulin resistance and beta cell insulin secretion after adjusting for confounding factors in NGT individuals. However, no significant associations were noted in the disposition indexes. The interaction of variant rs56221195 with alcohol intake exhibited a pronounced effect on the liver insulin resistance index (LIRI) in the discovery set, corroborated in the validation set (combined p=1.32 × 10-11). Alcohol consumption did not significantly affect LIRI in rs56221195 wild-type (TT) carriers, but a strong negative association emerged in heterozygous (TA) and homozygous (AA) individuals. The rs56221195 variant also significantly interacts with alcohol consumption, influencing the total insulin secretion index INSR120 (the ratio of the AUC of insulin to glucose from 0 to 120 min) (p=2.06 × 10-9) but not disposition index. In the UK Biobank, we found a significant interaction between rs56221195 and alcohol consumption, which was linked to the risk of type 2 diabetes (HR 0.897, p=0.008). CONCLUSIONS/INTERPRETATION: Our findings reveal the effects of the interaction of alcohol and rs56221195 on hepatic insulin sensitivity in NGT individuals. It is imperative to weigh potential benefits and detriments thoughtfully when considering alcohol consumption across diverse genetic backgrounds.

The platelet human leucocyte antigen (HLA) gene bank contains the genetic information of HLA loci in a large number of blood donors. Currently, the most effective treatment for platelet transfusion refractoriness (PTR) is to evaluate the probability of antigenic mismatch by HLA genotyping of patients and to select HLA-matched donors in the gene bank through an information system. This case report describes the treatment of PTR in patients with malignant tumors using the platelet HLA gene bank digital matching technique. The analysis of individual cases will help guide transfusion strategies for such patients.

BACKGROUND: Several previous cross-sectional studies suggested that body roundness index (BRI) may be associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the association should be further validated. Our study aimed to assess the association of the BRI trajectories with CVD among middle-aged and older Chinese people in a longitudinal cohort. METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 9935 participants from the CHARLS (China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study) with repeated BRI measurements from 2011 to 2016 were included. The BRI trajectories were identified by group-based trajectory modeling. The primary outcome was incident CVD (stroke or cardiac events), which occurred in 2017 to 2020. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to examine the association of BRI trajectories with CVD risk. Participants were divided into 3 BRI trajectories, named the low-stable BRI trajectory, moderate-stable BRI trajectory and high-stable BRI trajectory, accounting for 49.81%, 42.35%, and 7.84% of the study population, respectively. Compared with participants in the low-stable BRI trajectory group, those in the moderate-stable and high-stable BRI trajectory groups had an increased risk of CVD, with multivariable adjusted hazard ratios of 1.22 (95% CI, 1.09-1.37) and 1.55 (95% CI, 1.26-1.90), respectively. Furthermore, simultaneously adding the BRI trajectory to the conventional risk model improved CVD risk reclassification (all P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: A higher BRI trajectory was associated with an increased risk of CVD. The BRI can be included as a predictive factor for CVD incidence.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative pneumonia is a common but serious complication in patients with lung cancer. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the effect of respiratory exercise on reducing postoperative pneumonia in patients with lung cancer and to provide a reliable basis for clinical treatment and nursing of patients with lung cancer. METHODS: Two reviewers searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China Knowledge Network, Wanfang, and Weipu databases. We searched for the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in Chinese or English on the breathing exercises in patients with lung cancer up to January 30, 2024. The quality of the literature was evaluated with the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool 2 (ROB 2). RevMan 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis. RESULTS: Eleven RCTs with 1429 patients with lung cancer were included, and 710 patients received breathing exercises. The meta-analysis results showed that breathing exercises could significantly reduce the incidence of postoperative pneumonia [RR = 0.35, 95%CI (0.25, 0.51)], improve the FEV1 [MD = - 0.49, 95%CI (- 0.73, - 0.24)], FVC [MD = - 0.59, 95%CI (- 0.83, - 0.35)] in patients with lung cancer (all P < 0.05). There were significant differences in the incidence of pneumonia for patients undergoing breathing exercises with single exercise time ≥ 15 min (RR = 0.37, 95%CI 0.24 ~ 0.62), breathing exercises for 1 week (RR = 0.29, 95%CI 0.16 ~ 0.55) or for 2 weeks (RR = 0.48, 95%CI 0.28 ~ 0.85) and breathing exercises > 4 times (RR = 0.36, 95%CI 0.23 ~ 0.57) per day (all P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Breathing exercises have shown the capacity to augment pulmonary function in patients with lung cancer, concurrently mitigating the risk of postoperative pneumonia.

This study presents an approach to achieve a near-zero temperature coefficient of resonance frequency (τf) in rare-earth titanate microwave dielectric ceramics (MWDCs) by inducing a phase transition. By Zr4+ substitution at the B site, a series of Sm2Ti1-xZrxO5 (0.02 ≤ x ≤ 0.55) ceramics are synthesized using the solid-state method to intentionally alter the radius ratio of the A/B sites, realizing in a controlled phase transition from orthorhombic (Pnma) to biphasic coexistence and ultimately to cubic (Fd3Ì m) structure. The phase composition is rigorously identified through X-ray diffraction (XRD) Rietveld refinement, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selected-area electron diffraction (SAED), and Raman spectroscopy. A comprehensive analysis is conducted to elucidate the relationships between factors such as ionic polarizability, packing fraction, bond valence, complex chemical bonding, and far-infrared reflectivity spectra with microwave dielectric properties. The results demonstrate that these ceramics exhibit a broad range of permittivity (14.30-23.18), high-quality factors (14,828-22,300 GHz), opposite temperature coefficient of resonance frequency (-16.0 to + 22.4 ppm/°C), and nice thermal conductivity (1.81-2.76 W·m-1·K-1), particularly at x = 0.30 with a near-zero τf value of +1.6 ppm/°C. The findings not only provide insights into designing MWDCs with a near-zero τf but also offer a promising route for developing advanced microwave materials with improved performance and reliability.

BACKGROUND: Antenatal mental disorders are associated with maternal and fetal adverse events. Previous studies have been focused on the postpartum period, rather than pregnancy, yet the association of risk factors with prenatal depression and anxiety through pregnancy has been rarely reported. This study aimed to identify the risk factors of prenatal depression and anxiety, and access their potential roles in developing mental disorders during pregnancy. METHODS: This is a prospective study in 6470 participants from the Tianjin Birth Cohort in China (TJBC). The degree of prenatal depression and anxiety was evaluated using a questionnaire of Self-Rating Depression scale (SDS) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), which was given to pregnant women at 15-27 (Stage-2), and 28-41 (Stage-3) gestational weeks. The questionnaire also collected demographic, personal, and lifestyle information. The association of different factors with SDS/SAS score was examined by logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: We observed an overall depression rate of 12.4 % and an overall anxiety rate of 7.7 % during pregnancy in the TJBC. In the Stage-2, the depression rate was 14.5 % and the anxiety rate was 9.5 %. In the Stage-3, the depression rate dropped to 9.7 % while the anxiety rate dropped to 5.3 %. With univariate analysis, we found that age, education, social support, marriage satisfaction, secondhand smoke (SHS), sleeping time and stress were common factors of prenatal mental health. Working status, family income, gravidity, smoking, electronic using, recreational activities were associated with depression risk, whereas BMI, disease history, changing eating habits, and feeding animal were associated with anxiety risk. Using logistic regression, we found that low education level, low social support, low marriage satisfaction, thyroid disfunction, Stage-2(second trimester), and stress were related to prenatal mental health. CONCLUSION: The prevalence anxiety and depression in Tianjin is normal as national level. Age appropriateness, a good education level, sufficient social support, marital satisfaction, normal thyroid function, and absence of stress are associated with relieving depression and anxiety during gestation. However, due to individual difference, expectant mothers should seek professional support and guidance to address their mental health needs during gestation.

A 19-year-old man presented with recurrent intermittent fever, progressive limbs weakness, numbness, and atrophy for 5 years. Biopsy of the sural nerve, spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow and labial gland revealed that monomorphic small lymphoid cells infiltrated diffusely and that there was severe loss of large myelinated nerve fibers. Immunohistochemically, these cells were mainly CD8-positive T cells and were positive for CD3 and CD57. This patient was diagnosed as indolent CD8-positive T lymphoproliferative disorder (indolent CD8-positive T-LPD), emphasizing the need for a broad differential diagnosis under these conditions, and nerve biopsy should be performed.

BACKGROUND: Surgical care of the hand plays a crucial role in the medical field, as problems with the hand can profoundly affect a patient's quality of life and function. In order to meet the needs of patients, improve patient satisfaction and improve treatment outcomes, high-quality service models have been introduced in the field of nursing. AIM: To explore the effect analysis of applying high-quality service model to surgical nursing. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study of patients who underwent hand surgery at our hospital between 2019 and 2022, using a quality service model that included improved patient education, pain management, care team collaboration, and effective communication. Another group of patients received traditional care as a control group. We compared postoperative recovery, satisfaction, complication rate, and length of hospital stay between the two groups. Inferential statistics were used to compare the difference between the two groups by independent sample t test, Chi-square test and other methods to evaluate the effect of intervention measures. RESULTS: Postoperative recovery time decreased from 17.8 ± 2.3 d to 14.5 ± 2.1 d, pain score decreased from 4.7 ± 1.9 to 3.2 ± 1.4, and hand function score increased from 78.4 ± 7.1 to 88.5 ± 6.2. In terms of patient satisfaction, the quality service model group scored 87.3 ± 5.6 points, which was significantly higher than that of the traditional care group (74.6 ± 6.3 points). At the same time, patients' understanding of medical information also improved from 6.9 ± 1.4 to 8.6 ± 1.2. In terms of postoperative complications, the application of the quality service model reduced the incidence of postoperative complications from 26% to 10%, the incidence of infection from 12% to 5%, and the incidence of bleeding from 10% to 3%. The reduction in these data indicates that the quality service model plays a positive role in reducing the risk of complications. In addition, the average hospital stay of patients in the quality service model group was shortened from 6.8 ± 1.5 d to 5.2 ± 1.3 d, and the hospitalization cost was also reduced from 2800 ± 600 yuan to 2500 ± 500 yuan. CONCLUSION: Applying a quality service model to hand surgery care can significantly improve patient clinical outcomes, including faster recovery, less pain, greater satisfaction, and reduced complication rates.

Choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) is a rare benign intracranial tumor origin that predominantly manifests in the lateral ventricle in children, accounting for 0.3%-0.6% of all primary intracranial tumors. It is extremely rare to have the CPP in the trigone of the lateral ventricle through the contralateral posterior interhemispheric transfalcine transprecuneus approach (PITTA). Herein, we report this rare case. A 7-year-old girl presented with headache. Magnetic resonance imaging of the brain showed periatrial lesions, and histopathological examination confirmed CPP (WHO grade I). The contralateral PITTA is a safe, effective, reasonable, and appropriate for some lesions in the trigone of the lateral ventricle. It provides a wider surgical angle (especially for the lateral extension) and reduces the risk of disturbance of the optic radiation compared with the conventional approaches. The use of multiple modern neurosurgical techniques, including interventional embolization, intraoperative navigation, microscope, and electrophysiological monitoring, make the procedure much easier and more accurate, and the neuroendoscope adds to the visualization of the microscope and can reduce surgical complications.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been identified as playing an integral role in the development of bladder cancer (BC). However, the mechanism by which circRNAs operate in the chemical carcinogenesis of BC remains unclear. Methods: To explore this mechanism, we used RNA high-throughput sequencing to identify differentially expressed circRNA in bladder epithelial cells and chemically induced malignant transformed BC cells. Subsequently, in vitro experiments were conducted to investigate the biological function and molecular mechanism of circLMBR1 in BC. Finally, animal experiments were conducted to examine the clinical relevance of circLMBR1 in vivo. Results: Our profiling of circular RNA expression during cellular malignant transformation induced by chemical carcinogens identified a subset of circRNAs associated with cell transformation. We verified that the expression of circLMBR1 in bladder epithelial malignant transformed cells was decreased compared with control cells, as well as in BC tissues and bladder cell lines. Furthermore, circLMBR1 was seen to inhibit the proliferation, invasion, and migration of BC cells both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, circLMBR1 was found to exert its antitumor effect by binding to the protein ALDH1A3. Conclusions: Our findings have revealed that circLMBR1 inhibits the progression of BC cells by binding to ALDH1A3 and upregulating its expression. As such, circLMBR1 serves as a promising predictor of BC and may provide a novel therapeutic target for the treatment of BC.

Synthetic micro/nanomotors have been extensively exploited over the past decade to achieve active transportation. This interest is a result of their broad range of potential applications, from environmental remediation to nanomedicine. Nevertheless, it still remains a challenge to build a fast-moving biodegradable polymeric nanomotor. Here we present a light-propelled nanomotor by introducing gold nanoparticles (Au NP) onto biodegradable bowl-shaped polymersomes (stomatocytes) via electrostatic and hydrogen bond interactions. These biodegradable nanomotors show controllable motion and remarkable velocities of up to 125 µm s-1. This unique behavior is explained via a thorough three-dimensional characterization of the nanomotor, particularly the size and the spatial distribution of Au NP, with cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM) and cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). Our in-depth quantitative 3D analysis reveals that the motile features of these nanomotors are caused by the nonuniform distribution of Au NPs on the outer surface of the stomatocyte along the z-axial direction. Their excellent motile features are exploited for active cargo delivery into living cells. This study provides a new approach to develop robust, biodegradable soft nanomotors with application potential in biomedicine.

Background and objective: Current data on the optimal treatment modality for ruptured anterior communicating artery (AComA) aneurysms are limited. We conducted this multicenter retrospective study to evaluate the safety and clinical outcomes of endovascular treatment (EVT) and microsurgical clipping (MC) for the treatment of ruptured AComA patients. Methods: Patients with ruptured AComA aneurysms were screened from the Chinese Multicenter Cerebral Aneurysm Database. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to adjust for baseline characteristic imbalances between the EVT and MC groups. The safety outcomes included total procedural complications, procedure-related morbidity/death and remedial procedure for complication. The primary clinical outcome was 2-year functional independence measured by the modified Rankin scale (mRS) score. Results: The analysis included 893 patients with ruptured AComA aneurysms (EVT: 549; MC: 346). PSM yielded 275 pairs of patients in the EVT and MC cohorts for comparison. Decompressive craniectomy being more prevalent in the MC group (19.3% vs. 1.5%, p < 0.001). Safety data revealed a lower rate of total procedural complications (odds ratio [OR] = 0.62, 95% CI 0.39-0.99; p = 0.044) in the EVT group and similar rates of procedure-related morbidity/death (OR = 0.91, 95% CI 0.48-1.73; p = 0.880) and remedial procedure for complication (OR = 1.35, 95% CI 0.51-3.69, p = 0.657) between the groups. Compared with that of MC patients, EVT patients had a greater likelihood of functional independence (mRS score 0-2) at discharge (OR = 1.68, 95% CI 1.14-2.50; p = 0.008) and at 2 years (OR = 1.89, 95% CI 1.20-3.00; p = 0.005), a lower incidence of 2-year all-cause mortality (OR = 0.54, 95% CI 0.31-0.93; p = 0.023) and a similar rate of retreatment (OR = 1.00, 95% CI 0.23-4.40; p = 1.000). Conclusion: Clinical outcomes after treatment for ruptured AComA aneurysms appear to be superior to those after treatment with MC, with fewer overall procedure-related complications and no increase in the retreatment rate. Additional studies in other countries are needed to verify these findings.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the surgical outcomes of a modified technique for treating congenital cilial entropion in children, which involves reducing tension step by step in the epicanthus and lower eyelid incision. METHODS: The observational group consisted of 153 pediatric patients (81 males and 72 females) who were treated using the modified technique, whereas the control group included 124 patients (68 males and 56 females) who were treated using the rotating suture surgery. All the participants were bilateral. Surgical outcomes were classified as good, fair, or poor, and the recurrence rate, scar condition, inferior eyelid position, and patient satisfaction were also assessed. RESULTS: The mean follow-up period was 9.13 ± 3.50 months (range: 3-14 months) for the observational group and 6.93 ± 4.51 months (range: 3-14 months) for the control group. In the observational group, surgical success with "good" outcomes was achieved in 300 eyes (98.04%), compared to 224 eyes (90.32%) in the control group. No recurrence occurred in the observational group, whereas the recurrence rate in the control group was 4.43%. Postoperative scar formation was mild in the observational group. The average scar score was 1.27 ± 0.96 in the observational group and 2.70 ± 0.99 in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (P < 0.001). Neither overcorrection nor postoperative ectropion was observed in both groups. CONCLUSION: The modified technique effectively corrected medial entropion and trichiasis in the lower eyelid, resulting in stable postoperative outcomes, mild scar formation, quick recovery, flexible eyelid motility, and stable ocular surface. Therefore, it can be widely applied to children with congenital entropion and trichiasis.

Several studies have suggested an association between exposure to various metals and the onset of type 2 diabetes (T2D). However, the results vary across different studies. We aimed to investigate the associations between serum metal concentrations and the risk of developing T2D among 8734 participants using a prospective cohort study design. We utilized inductively coupled plasmamass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to assess the serum concentrations of 27 metals. Cox regression was applied to calculate the hazard ratios (HRs) for the associations between serum metal concentrations on the risk of developing T2D. Additionally, 196 incident T2D cases and 208 healthy control participants were randomly selected for serum metabolite measurement using an untargeted metabolomics approach to evaluate the mediating role of serum metabolite in the relationship between serum metal concentrations and the risk of developing T2D with a nested casecontrol study design. In the cohort study, after Bonferroni correction, the serum concentrations of zinc (Zn), mercury (Hg), and thallium (Tl) were positively associated with the risk of developing T2D, whereas the serum concentrations of manganese (Mn), molybdenum (Mo), barium (Ba), lutetium (Lu), and lead (Pb) were negatively associated with the risk of developing T2D. After adding these eight metals, the predictive ability increased significantly compared with that of the traditional clinical model (AUC: 0.791 vs. 0.772, P=8.85×10-5). In the nested casecontrol study, a machine learning analysis revealed that the serum concentrations of 14 out of 1579 detected metabolites were associated with the risk of developing T2D. According to generalized linear regression models, 7 of these metabolites were significantly associated with the serum concentrations of the identified metals. The mediation analysis showed that two metabolites (2-methyl-1,2-dihydrophthalazin-1-one and mestranol) mediated 46.81% and 58.70%, respectively, of the association between the serum Pb concentration and the risk of developing T2D. Our study suggested that serum Mn, Zn, Mo, Ba, Lu, Hg, Tl, and Pb were associated with T2D risk. Two metabolites mediated the associations between the serum Pb concentration and the risk of developing T2D.

PURPOSE: The Bone And MicroBiOme Onset (BAMBOO) study is an ongoing prospective observational cohort study conducted in Tianjin, China, aiming to determine age-appropriate trajectories for microbiome maturation and bone development and to identify the influence of dietary factors in the process. PARTICIPANTS: The recruitment started in September 2021 and was completed in February 2023. A total of 1380 subjects were recruited, 690 at birth (group 1) and 690 at 6 months of age (group 2). Groups 1 and 2 will be followed up for 12 months and 36 months, respectively. FINDINGS TO DATE: The age of the mothers was 31.1±3.7 (mean±SD), and the birth weight of infants was 3.3±0.5 kg with an incidence of caesarean section 50.4%. Food diary information of the first 100 subjects showed that 64 food items were introduced by 6 months. A pilot microbiome analysis revealed that at the species level, bacterial communities were composed of mostly Bacteroides dorei, Bacteroides vulgatus and Escherichia coli, which were consistent with that of previous reports. Feasibility assessments of breast milk vitamin D and human milk oligosaccharides were validated through certified reference measurements. The early data assessment showed a high reliability of the data generated from this study. FUTURE PLANS: Data collection will be completed in August 2025. Four stage-statistical analyses will be performed as the cohort reaches certain age thresholds before the final report. Analysis of BAMBOO data will be used to develop age-appropriate trajectories for microbiome maturation and bone development for children aged 0-3 years and investigate the contribution of dietary factors in the process. Atherosclerosis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory arterial disease, in which abnormal lipid metabolism and foam cell formation play key roles. Histamine is a vital biogenic amine catalyzed by histidine decarboxylase (HDC) from L-histidine. Histamine H1 receptor (H1R) antagonist is a commonly encountered anti-allergic agent in the clinic. However, the role and mechanism of H1R in atherosclerosis have not been fully elucidated. Here, we explored the effect of H1R on atherosclerosis using Apolipoprotein E-knockout (ApoE-/-) mice with astemizole (AST, a long-acting H1R antagonist) treatment. The results showed that AST increased atherosclerotic plaque area and hepatic lipid accumulation in mice. The result of microarray study identified a significant change of endothelial lipase (LIPG) in CD11b+ myeloid cells derived from HDC-knockout (HDC-/-) mice compared to WT mice. Blocking H1R promoted the formation of foam cells from bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) of mice by up-regulating p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) and LIPG signaling pathway. Taken together, these findings demonstrate that blocking H1R signal aggravates atherosclerosis by promoting abnormal lipid metabolism and macrophage-derived foam cell formation via p38 MAPK-LIPG signaling pathway. KEY MESSAGES: Blocking H1R signal with AST aggravated atherosclerosis and increased hepatic lipid accumulation in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed ApoE-/- mice. Blocking H1R signal promoted macrophage-derived foam cell formation via p38 MAPK-LIPG signaling pathway.

Glucose metabolism, as a novel theory to explain tumor cell behavior, has been intensively studied in various tumors. The present study explored the long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) related to glycolysis in grade II-III glioma, aiming to provide a promising target for further research. Pearson correlation analysis was used to identify glycolysis-related lncRNAs. Univariate/multivariate Cox regression analysis and the Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator algorithm were applied to identify glycolysis-related lncRNAs to construct a prognosis prediction model. Subsequently, multi-dimensional evaluations were used to verify whether the risk model could predict the prognosis and survival rate of patients with grade II-III glioma. Finally, it was verified by functional experiments. The present study finally identified seven glycolysis-related lncRNAs (CRNDE, AC022034.1, RHOQ-AS1, AL159169.2, AL133215.2, AC007098.1 and LINC02587) to construct a prognosis prediction model. The present study further investigated the underlying immune microenvironment, somatic landscape and functional enrichment pathways. Additionally, individualized immunotherapeutic strategies and candidate compounds were identified to guide clinical treatment. The experimental results demonstrated that CRNDE could increase the proliferation of SHG-44 cells. In conclusion, a large sample of human grade II-III glioma in The Cancer Genome Atlas database was used to construct a risk model using glycolysis-related lncRNAs to predict the prognosis of patients with grade II-III glioma.

Introduction: Bullying is a significant concern for young people, with studies consistently showing a link between bullying and negative emotional consequences. However, the mechanisms that underlie this association remain unclear, particularly in terms of the classroom environment. This study aimed to explore the paradoxical phenomenon between bullying victimization and emotional adaptation among junior high school students in China, using the hypothesis of the healthy context paradox. Methods: The study involved 880 students (565 girls; Mage=14.69; SD=1.407 years), and data were collected using self-reported surveys. The findings of the study, utilizing multilevel structural equation modeling (MSEM) techniques, demonstrated a cross-level moderated effect of classroom-level bullying victimization on the relationship between individual bullying victimization and emotional adaptation. Results: Specifically, the results indicated that in classrooms with higher levels of victimization, the association between individual bullying victimization and increased depressive symptoms and State&Trait anxiety was more pronounced. These findings support the "Healthy context paradox" hypothesis in the Chinese context and provide insight into the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon. Discussion: The results suggest that the classroom environment plays a crucial role in shaping the emotional consequences of bullying and that addressing classroom victimization is crucial for promoting emotional health among young people. By understanding the mechanisms that underlie the association between bullying and emotional consequences, interventions can be developed to target the underlying factors that contribute to this paradoxical phenomenon. Overall, the study provides new insights into the complex relationship between bullying and emotional health among young people, highlighting the importance of considering the classroom environment in addressing this issue.

Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a zoonotic disease, caused by Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato (E. granulosus s. l.), which posed significant public health concern globally. E. granulosus s. l. annexin B18 (EgANXB18) acts as a secretory protein, exerting a crucial influence in mediating host-parasite interactions. Recombinant annexin B18 (rEgANXB18) was expressed by Escherichia coli and the immunoreactivity was assessed by western blotting. The binding affinity between rEgANXB18 and total protein of RAW264.7 cells was assessed by ELISA. The impact of rEgANXB18 on the metabolic activity of RAW264.7 cells was assayed by Cell Counting Kit-8 assay. The mRNA levels of polarization markers (inducible nitrous oxide synthase (iNOS) and arginase 1 (Arg1)) and key cellular factors (IL-1ßï¼IL-6ï¼IL-10 and TNFα) were evaluated by qRT-PCR. rEgANXB18 was successfully expressed and recognized by E. granulosus s.l. infected canine sera, as well as could bind to the total protein of RAW264.7 cells. Additionally, rEgANXB18 could promote metabolic activity at 5, 10, 20, and 40 µg/mL while no significant impact on metabolic activity was observed at 80 µg/mL. Co-culture RAW264.7 cells with rEgANXB18 resulted in significantly upregulation of the transcript levels of polarization markers iNOS and Arg1. Moreover, rEgANXB18 significantly upregulated the transcript levels of IL-1ß, IL-6, TNFα, and IL-10, while dose-effect relationship was observed in IL-1ß, IL-6, and IL-10. Our results indicated that EgANXB18 showed the potential to regulate immune response of macrophages by shifting the cell polarization and cytokine profile, thereby promoting the parasitism of CE.
