RESUMEN

Understanding the relationship between suspended particulate matter (SPM), sediment organic C, N stable isotopes, and lake trophic state index (TSI) is essential for managing lake pollution and eutrophication. According to the δ13C, δ15N, and C/N we found that the organic C in SPM and sediment of Caohai Lake primarily originated from macrophytes, while N was sourced from chemical fertilizers, phytoplankton, and aquatic plants. Total nitrogen, total phosphorus, NO3--N, oxidation reduction potential, and Chl.a were identified as key factors influencing the sources and variations of SPM and sediment organic C and N stable isotopes in Caohai Lake, with a significant linear correlation observed between C, N stable isotopes, and TSI in sediments. To mitigate eutrophication in Caohai Lake, it is recommended that farmers apply fertilizers judiciously to minimize nutrient loss and that aquatic plants be regularly harvested to reduce N release from plant residues.

RESUMEN

Adlay millet seeds are well known for excellent health benefits. However, using fungal fermentation to improve their nutritional and functional constituents and the underlying mechanisms has not been thoroughly investigated. Herein, we used Rhizopus oryzae as starter and applied metabolomics combining with quantitative verification to understand the changes of the nutritional and functional profiles of adlay millet seeds. Results showed that a total of 718 metabolites from 18 compound classes were identified. The fermentation with R. oryzae varied 203 differential metabolites, of which 184 became more abundant and 19 got less abundant, and many components such as amino acids, nucleotides, vitamins, flavonoids, terpenoids, and phenols significantly increased after the fermentation process. Interestingly, we found that R. oryzae synthesized high levels of two important beneficial compounds, S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and ß-Nicotinamide mononucleotide (ß-NMN), with their contents increased from 0.56 to 370.26 µg/g and 0.55 to 8.32 µg/g, respectively. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis of enriched metabolites revealed the amino acid metabolic pathways were important for conversion of the primary and secondary metabolites. Specifically, aspartate can up-regulate the biosynthesis of SAMe and ß-NMN. These findings improved our understanding into the effects of R. oryzae fermentation on enhancing the nutritional and functional values of cereal foods.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Mango (Mangifera indica L.) faces escalating challenges from increasing drought stress due to erratic climate patterns, threatening yields, and quality. Understanding mango's drought response mechanisms is pivotal for resilience and food security. RESULTS: Our RNA-seq analyses unveil 12,752 differentially expressed genes linked to stress signaling, hormone regulation, and osmotic adjustment. Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis identified three essential genes-WRKY transcription factor 3, polyamine oxidase 4, and protein MEI2-like 1-as drought defense components. WRKY3 having a role in stress signaling and defense validates its importance. Polyamine oxidase 4, vital in stress adaptation, enhances drought defense. Protein MEI2-like 1's significance emerges, hinting at novel roles in stress responses. Metabolite profiling illuminated Mango's metabolic responses to drought stress by presenting 990 differentially abundant metabolites, mainly related to amino acids, phenolic acids, and flavonoids, contributing to a deeper understanding of adaptation strategies. The integration between genes and metabolites provided valuable insights by revealing the correlation of WRKY3, polyamine oxidase 4 and MEI2-like 1 with amino acids, D-sphingnosine and 2,5-Dimethyl pyrazine. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides insights into mango's adaptive tactics, guiding future research for fortified crop resilience and sustainable agriculture. Harnessing key genes and metabolites holds promise for innovative strategies enhancing drought tolerance in mango cultivation, contributing to global food security efforts.

RESUMEN

The removal mechanisms of phthalic acid esters (PAEs) have attracted much attention because of their endocrine-disrupting properties and persistence in environmental media. In order to reveal the removal mechanism of PAEs and involved keystone taxa and functional genes, purple soils were polluted by di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) and di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP), respectively, along a gradient of 0, 5, 10, and 20 mg·kg-1 and cultured for 90 days in the dark. The results showed that the degradation dynamics of DBP and DEHP were well-fitted by the first-order kinetic model, and the half-life of DBP and DEHP ranged from 17.0 to 38.2 days. The degradation rate of DBP (5 mg·kg-1) was the fastest, and that of DEHP (20 mg·kg-1) was the slowest. The soil samples of the seventh day and the fifteenth day were analyzed using metagenomic sequencing. NMDS and cluster analysis showed that there was a significant difference between the bacterial community structure of soil samples from the seventh day and the fifteenth day. The relative abundance of Actinobacteria increased from the seventh day to the fifteenth day. The smaller the half-life of DBP or DEHP, the higher the relative abundance of Actinobacteria in the different treatments. In addition, Streptomyces was the dominant genus in all polluted soils. Co-occurrence network analysis elucidated that Pandoraea was a keystone genus of the soil bacterial communities, which could be used to indicate the pollution levels of DBP and DEHP. The results of KEGG annotation demonstrated that Pandoraea was responsible for benzoate degradation, quorum sensing, ABC transporters, and the two-component system and could promote the intercellular communications and the microbial growth and proliferation and maintain the stability of the community structure. Therefore, the degradation rate of DBP and DEHP in purple soils depended on their initial content and their own properties. Actinobacteria played an important role in the PAEs degradation, and Pandoraea played a major part in promoting PAEs degradation and regulating the stability of the structure and function of degrading bacterial communities.

RESUMEN

Hypolithic communities, which occupy highly specialised microhabitats beneath translucent rocks in desert and arid environments, have assembly mechanisms and ecosystem functions are not fully understood. Thus, in this study, we aimed to examine the microbial community structure, assembly, and function of light-accessible (under quartz, calcite, and hypolithic lichen-dominated biocrusts) and light-inaccessible microhabitats (under basalt and adjacent soil) in the Qaidam Desert, China. The results showed that hypolithic communities have different characteristics compared with microbial communities of light-inaccessible microhabitats. Notably, hypolithic bacterial communities were dominated by Cyanobacteria, whereas light-inaccessible microhabitats showed a predominance of Bacteroidetes and Proteobacteria. Although the class Dothideomycetes (phylum: Ascomycota) dominated the fungal communities between the two microhabitat types, Sordariomycetes were more prevalent in light-accessible microhabitats. Network and robustness analyses showed that hypolithic communities were less complex and more resilient than microbial communities in light-inaccessible microhabitats. Our results indicated that deterministic processes, specifically homogeneous selection, govern the establishment of bacterial and fungal communities in light-accessible and light-inaccessible microhabitats. The hypolithic community showed an increased frequency of phylotypes that exhibited increased tolerance to functional stress response pathways. In contrast to light-inaccessible microhabitats, light-accessible microhabitats showed a slight decrease and a notable increase in the prevalence of carbon fixation pathways in prokaryotes and carbon fixation in photosynthetic organisms, respectively. For fungi, light-accessible microhabitats enriched saprotrophic and ectomycorrhizal groups. These results highlight the importance of complex and diverse microhabitats in desert regions, which serve as vital shelters for microbes. Combining future research on interactions between hypolithic communities and environments may enhance our current understanding of their pivotal roles in sustaining desert ecosystems. This knowledge then be applied to design and implement informed conservation efforts to preserve these unique rock-associated microhabitats in desert ecosystems.

RESUMEN

Understanding PAH and OCP distributions and sources in lakes is necessary for developing pollutant control policies. Here, we assessed the occurrence, risk, and sources of PAHs and OCPs in the sediment of Caohai Lake. The PAHs were predominantly high-molecular-weight compounds (mean 57.5 %), and the diagnostic ratios revealed that coal, biomass burning, and traffic were the sources of PAHs. HCHs (6.53 ± 7.22 ng g-1) and DDTs (10.86 ± 12.16 ng g-1) were the dominant OCPs and were primarily sourced from fresh exogenous inputs. RDA showed that sediment properties explained 74.12 % and 65.44 % of the variation in PAH and OCP concentrations, respectively. Incremental lifetime cancer risk (ILCR) assessment indicated that hazardous PAHs in Caohai Lake sediment posed moderate risks to children and adults (ILCR>1.0 × 10-4), while the risk from OCPs was low; however, the recent influx of HCHs and DDTs requires additional attention.

RESUMEN

Colletotrichum siamense is a hemibiotrophic ascomycetous fungus responsible for mango anthracnose. The key genes involved in C. siamense infection remained largely unknown. In this study, we conducted weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) of RNA-seq data to mine key genes involved in Colletotrichum siamense-mango interactions. Gene modules of Turquoise and Salmon, containing 1039 and 139 respectively, were associated with C. siamense infection, which were conducted for further analysis. GO enrichment analysis revealed that protein synthesis, organonitrogen compound biosynthetic and metabolic process, and endoplasmic reticulum-related genes were associated with C. siamense infection. A total of 568 proteins had homologs in the PHI database, 370 of which were related to virulence. The hub genes in each module were identified, which were annotated as O-methyltransferase (Salmon) and Clock-controlled protein 6 (Turquoise). A total of 24 proteins exhibited characteristics of SCRPs. By using transient expression in Nicotiana benthamiana, the SCRPs of XM_036637681.1 could inhibit programmed cell death (PCD) that induced by BAX (BCL-2-associated X protein), suggesting that it may play important roles in C. siamense infection. A mango-C. siamense co-expression network was constructed, and the mango gene of XM_044632979.1 (auxin-induced protein 15A-like) was positively associated with 5 SCRPs. These findings help to deepen the current understanding of necrotrophic stage in C. siamense infection.

RESUMEN

Objective: To investigate the effects of different concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) on the proliferation and apoptosis of human hemangioma stem cells, it will provide a basis for studying the mechanism of FSH in treating hemangioma. Methods: Hemangioma specimens were collected from the Longgang District Maternity & Child Healthcare Hospital of Shenzhen City. Hemangioma stem cells were treated with different concentrations of FSH. Cell viability was detected by CCK8 method and cell apoptosis was analyzed by flow cytometry. Results: Hemangioma stem cells (HemSCs) were extracted from fresh tissue of infantile hemangioma by the CD133 immunomagnetic bead method. Under the influence of FSH at different concentrations (0, 100, 1000 IU/L), the cell viability of hemangioma stem cells increased significantly in a concentration-dependent manner (P < 0.05). At the same time, the apoptosis of hemangioma stem cells decreased with increasing concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone (P < 0.05). Specifically, 1000 IU/L FSH significantly promoted the proliferation of hemangioma stem cells and inhibited their apoptosis. Conclusion: High concentration of follicle-stimulating hormone can maintain the growth of hemangioma by promoting the proliferation and inhibiting the apoptosis of hemangioma stem cells.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The process of lactate metabolism has been proved to play a critical role in the progression of various cancers and to influence the immune microenvironment, but its potential role in osteosarcoma remains unclear. METHODS: We have acquired transcriptomic and clinical data from 84 osteosarcoma samples and 70 normal bone samples from the TARGET and GTEx databases. We identified differentially expressed lactate metabolism-related LncRNAs (LRLs) in osteosarcoma and performed Cox regression and LASSO regression to establish LRLs prognostic signature (LRPS). The reliability of LRPS performance was examined by separate prognostic analysis, viability curves and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Furthermore, the effects of LRPS on the immune microenvironment of osteosarcoma were investigated, and the functions of the focal genes were experimentally validated. RESULT: A total of 856 differentially expressed LRLs were identified and 5 of them were selected to construct LRPS, which was a better prognostic predictor for osteosarcoma compared with other published prognostic signatures (AUC up to 0.947 and 0.839 in the training and test groups, respectively, with adj-p<0.05 for KM curves). We found that LRPS significantly affected the immune infiltration of osteosarcoma, while RP11-472M19.2 significantly promoted the metastasis of osteosarcoma, which was well validated experimentally. Encouragingly, a number of sensitive drugs were identified for LRPS and RP11-472M19.2 high-risk groups. CONCLUSION: Our study shows that lactate metabolism plays a crucial role in the development of osteosarcoma and has been well validated experimentally, providing extremely important insights into the clinical treatment and in-depth research of osteosarcoma.

RESUMEN

Data on selenium (Se) transformation, specifically the mineralization or activation of Se bound by microorganisms in natural Se-enriched soil, is limited. Therefore, this study investigates the effects of microorganisms on Se availability of Se-enriched lateritic red soil and Se uptake by pak choi. Following the incubation of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia S1 and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi agent, the available Se content of soils increased from 35 to 66.69-117.04 µg/kg, corresponding to an increase of 90.50-234.40%. The Se bioconcentration and translocation factors in pak choi increased after adding the AM fungi agent and strain S1. The soil acid phosphatase activity, and pak choi root length, surface area, and diameter also increased. Moreover, the soil acid phosphatase activity showed a significant positive correlation with soil available Se and phosphorus content (p < 0.01). Overall, the AM fungi agent and strain S1 increased Se bioavailability by enhancing soil acid phosphatase and promoting root activity, ultimately increasing pak choi's ability to absorb available Se.

RESUMEN

Conventional perovskite solar cells (PSC) built on transparent conductive oxide (TCO) glass face a fundamental challenge to retain fill factor (FF) for large-area upscaling due to series resistance loss. Building a perovskite solar cell on metal has the potential to reduce this FF loss and is promising for flexible applications. However, their efficiency and stability lag far behind their TCO counterparts. Herein, findings on the complex chemical reactions and degradation-promoting processes at different perovskite/metal (Cu, Au, Ag, and Mo) interfaces, which are closely linked with the inherent stability; and the interlayer engineering for perovskite/metal interface's band alignment, which plays an essential role in achieving high efficiency, are reported. Leveraging these findings, 21% power conversion efficiency (PCE) is achieved for 1 cm2 perovskite solar cells using a p-i-n top-illumination structure on a molybdenum substrate, the highest reported for a PSC built on metal. Notably, the FF and PCE losses due to area upscaling are remarkably reduced by one order of magnitude relative to the counterparts on conventional TCO glass, highlighting an alternative pathway for PSC upscaling and module design.

RESUMEN

Flower organ development is one of the most important processes in plant life. However, onion CMS (cytoplasmic male sterility) shows an abnormal development of floral organs. The regulation of MADS-box transcription factors is important for flower development. To further understand the role of MADS-box transcription factors in the regulation of cytoplasmic male sterility onions. We cloned the full-length cDNA of five MADS-box transcription factors from the flowers of onion using RACE (rapid amplification of cDNA ends) technology. We used bioinformatics methods for sequence analysis and phylogenetic analysis. Real-time quantitative PCR was used to detect the expression patterns of these genes in different onion organs. The relative expression levels of five flower development genes were compared in CMS onions and wild onions. The results showed that the full-length cDNA sequences of the cloned MADS-box genes AcFUL, AcDEF, AcPI, AcAG, and AcSEP3 belonged to A, B, C, and E MADS-box genes, respectively. A phylogenetic tree construction analysis was performed on its sequence. Analysis of MADS-box gene expression in wild onion and CMS onion showed that the formation of CMS onion was caused by down-regulation of AcDEF, AcPI, and AcAG gene expression, up-regulation of AcSEP3 gene expression, and no correlation with AcFUL gene expression. This work laid the foundation for further study of the molecular mechanism of onion flower development and the molecular mechanism of CMS onion male sterility.

RESUMEN

Importance: Successful smoking cessation strategies are an important part of reducing tobacco use. However, providing universal smoking cessation support can be a challenge for most countries because it requires sufficient resources. One way to expand access is to use mobile technologies to provide cessation support. Objective: To assess the efficacy of a behavior change theory-based smoking cessation intervention using personalized text messages. Design, Setting, and Participants: This study was a 2-arm double-blind randomized clinical trial conducted in 5 cities in China. Daily or weekly smokers 18 years or older were eligible for inclusion if they owned a mobile phone and used the WeChat social media app. A total of 722 participants were randomized to the intervention or control group between April 1 and July 27, 2021. Interventions: Intervention group participants received a personalized text message-based smoking cessation intervention that was based on the transtheoretical model and protection motivation theory and developed by this study's investigators. Control group participants received a nonpersonalized text message-based smoking cessation intervention developed by the US National Cancer Institute. Both groups received 1 to 2 text messages per day for 3 months through the app. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was the biochemically verified 6-month sustained abstinence rate, defined as the self-report of no smoking of any cigarettes after the designated quit date, which was validated biochemically by an expired air carbon monoxide level of less than 6 ppm at each follow-up point. Results: A total of 722 participants (mean [SD] age, 41.5 [12.7] years; 716 men [99.2%]; all of Chinese ethnicity) were randomly assigned to the intervention group (360 participants) or the control group (362 participants). Biochemically verified continuous abstinence at 6 months was 6.9% in the intervention group and 3.0% in the control group (odds ratio [OR], 2.66; 95% CI, 1.21-5.83). Among smokers with low nicotine dependence, the intervention group had significantly better abstinence rates for most of the indicators after adjusting for covariates (eg, biochemically verified 24-hour point prevalence of abstinence at 1 month: adjusted OR, 2.15; 95% CI, 1.05-4.38). Among smokers with moderate and high nicotine dependence, only the biochemically verified 24-hour point prevalence of abstinence at 6 months was statistically significant (adjusted OR, 4.17; 95% CI, 1.34-3.00). The pattern was similar for quitting intention, and the personalized text message-based intervention was more effective for smokers who had strong quitting intention than for those who had weak quitting intention. Conclusions and Relevance: In this study, the behavior change theory-based smoking cessation intervention using personalized text messages was more effective than an intervention using nonpersonalized text messages. The intervention was most effective among smokers with low nicotine dependence and strong quitting intention. This study's findings also provide further evidence regarding the potential benefits of mobile health interventions for other behaviors. RESUMEN

An integrated assessment of heavy metal (HM) contamination in dissolved matter, suspended particular matter (SPM) and sediments in lakes is essential. This study assessed the risks of HMs in the water, SPM and sediment of Caohai, China, and analyzed the changes in sediment HM contamination in conjunction with historical data. The HM transport was dominated by the SPM load, and the concentrations of Zn (179.07-1821.24 mg kg-1), Pb (53.63-181.46 mg kg-1), and Cd (3.68-21.31 mg kg-1) in SPM and sediment were 5.34-149.11 times higher than the upper continental crust (UCC) values. SPM and sediments were lightly to extremely polluted and had moderate to very high toxicity risks with Cd, Pb and Zn, and these three HMs originated from industrial and agricultural sources. The concentrations of Zn, Pb, and Cd in Caohai sediments increased by 36.7-187.9 % in 2022 compared to pre-2020. This research provides valuable reference data for the remediation of polluted karst lakes.

RESUMEN

Inserting an ultrathin low-conductivity interlayer between the absorber and transport layer has emerged as an important strategy for reducing surface recombination in the best perovskite solar cells. However, a challenge with this approach is a trade-off between the open-circuit voltage (Voc) and the fill factor (FF). Here, we overcame this challenge by introducing a thick (about 100 nanometers) insulator layer with random nanoscale openings. We performed drift-diffusion simulations for cells with this porous insulator contact (PIC) and realized it using a solution process by controlling the growth mode of alumina nanoplates. Leveraging a PIC with an approximately 25% reduced contact area, we achieved an efficiency of up to 25.5% (certified steady-state efficiency 24.7%) in p-i-n devices. The product of Voc × FF was 87.9% of the Shockley-Queisser limit. The surface recombination velocity at the p-type contact was reduced from 64.2 to 9.2 centimeters per second. The bulk recombination lifetime was increased from 1.2 to 6.0 microseconds because of improvements in the perovskite crystallinity. The improved wettability of the perovskite precursor solution allowed us to demonstrate a 23.3% efficient 1-square-centimeter p-i-n cell. We demonstrate here its broad applicability for different p-type contacts and perovskite compositions.

RESUMEN

Breast cancer (BRCA) remains a serious threat to women's health, with the rapidly increasing morbidity and mortality being possibly due to a lack of a sophisticated classification system. To date, no reliable biomarker is available to predict prognosis. Cuproptosis has been recently identified as a new form of programmed cell death, characterized by the accumulation of copper in cells. However, little is known about the role of cuproptosis in breast cancer. In this study, a cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) risk model was constructed, based on transcriptomic data with corresponding clinical information relating to breast cancer obtained from both the TCGA and GEO databases, to assess the prognosis of breast cancer by comprehensive bioinformatics analyses. The CRGs risk model was constructed and validated based on the expression of four genes (NLRP3, LIPT1, PDHA1 and DLST). BRCA patients were then divided into two subtypes according to the CRGs risk model. Furthermore, our analyses revealed that the application of this risk model was significantly associated with clinical outcome, immune infiltrates and tumor mutation burden (TMB) in breast cancer patients. Additionally, a new clinical nomogram model based on risk score was established and showed great performance in overall survival (OS) prediction, confirming the potential clinical significance of the CRGs risk model. Collectively, our findings revealed that the CRGs risk model can be a useful tool to stratify subtypes and that the cuproptosis-related signature plays an important role in predicting prognosis in BRCA patients.

RESUMEN

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common histological subtype of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Anoikis plays an essential function in tumourigenesis, whereas the role of anoikis in ccRCC remains unclear. Methods: Anoikis-related genes (ARGs) were collected from the MSigDB database. According to univariate Cox regression analysis, the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm was utilized to select the ARGs associated with the overall rate (OS). Multivariate Cox regression analysis was conducted to identify 5 prognostic ARGs, and a risk model was established. The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was used to evaluate the OS rate of ccRCC patients. Gene ontology (GO), Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes (KEGG), and Gene set enrichment analysis (GSVA) were utilized to investigate the molecular mechanism of patients in the low- and high-risk group. ESTIMATE, CIBERSOT, and single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) algorithms were conducted to estimate the immune infiltration landscape. Consensus clustering analysis was performed to divide the patients into different subgroups. Results: A fresh risk model was constructed based on the 5 prognostic ARGs (CHEK2, PDK4, ZNF304, SNAI2, SRC). The Kaplan-Meier survival analysis indicated that the OS rate of patients with a low-risk score was significantly higher than those with a high-risk score. Consensus clustering analysis successfully clustered the patients into two subgroups, with a remarkable difference in immune infiltration landscape and prognosis. The ESTIMATE, CIBERSORT, and ssGSEA results illustrated a significant gap in immune infiltration landscape of patients in the low- and high-risk group. Enrichment analysis and GSVA revealed that immune-related signaling pathways might mediate the role of ARGs in ccRCC. The nomogram results illustrated that the ARGs prognostic signature was an independent prognostic predictor that distinguished it from other clinical characteristics. TIDE score showed a promising immunotherapy response of ccRCC patients in different risk subgroups and cluster subgroups. Conclusion: Our study revealed that ARGs play a carcinogenic role in ccRCC. Additionally, we firstly integrated multiple ARGs to establish a risk-predictive model. This study highlights that ARGs could be implemented as a stratification factor for individualized and precise treatment in ccRCC patients.

RESUMEN

The concentration and speciation of endogenous cadmium (Cd) in soil systems derived from parent materials is continuously altered by rock-soil-plant interactions. Previous studies on the distribution of Cd primarily focused on surface soil at regional scale. However, it lacks a novel approach to provide a new perspective on dynamics and redistribution of Cd in soil profile. Therefore, this study tries to establish the linkage between isotope fractionation and environmental processes of Cd in soil profiles with geogenic Cd enrichment based on Cd isotopes. High Cd concentrations were observed in the profile from forest at accumulation zone and the one from farmland at ridge in a rural area, southwest China. Soil erosion and deposition substantially influence the vertical distribution of total Cd in soil from the accumulation zone. Accordingly, distinct Cd isotope compositions were observed in different layers (δ114/110Cd: -0.087 ‰ to -0.066 ‰ vs -0.325 ‰ to -0.056 ‰). Mineral transformation, pedogenesis and biological activities controlled the dynamics and redistribution of Cd. The mobility of Cd increased during weathering processes, with ~40 % to 60 % of Cd residing in exchangeable fraction in the surface layers. Biological activity is a vital factor that drives Cd isotope fractionation in soil, resulting in depletion of heavy Cd isotopes in surface layers of the studied farmland profile. Contrasting fractionation effects were observed in profiles from forest and farmland due to the variance in soil-plant Cd cycling. Our study revealed the processes that control dynamics and redistribution of endogenous Cd in soil profiles, and proved that Cd isotope is a useful tool to investigate the bio-geochemical processes of Cd in soil systems.

RESUMEN

Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is a malignant tumor with a high incidence rate and poor prognosis. Autophagy plays an essential role in the development of CM; however, the role of autophagy-related long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in this process remains unknown. Human autophagy-related genes were extracted from the Human Autophagy Gene Database and screened for autophagy-related lncRNAs using Pearson correlation. Multivariate Cox regression analysis was implemented to identify ten autophagy-related lncRNAs associated with prognosis, and a risk model was constructed. The Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed that the survival probability of the high-risk group was lower than that of the low-risk group. A novel predictive model was constructed to investigate the independent prognostic value of the risk model. The nomogram results showed that the risk score was an independent prognostic signature that distinguished it from other clinical characteristics. The immune infiltration landscape of the low-risk and high-risk groups was further investigated. The low-risk groups displayed higher immune, stromal, and ESTIMATE scores and lower tumor purity. The CIBERSORT and single sample gene set enrichment analysis (ssGSEA) algorithms indicated a notable gap in immune cells between the low- and high-risk groups. Ten autophagy-related lncRNAs were significantly correlated with immune cells. Finally, Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) and Gene Set Variation Analysis (GSVA) results demonstrated that autophagy-related lncRNA-mediated and immune-related signaling pathways are crucial factors in regulating CM. Altogether, these data suggest that constructing a risk model based on ten autophagy-related lncRNAs can accurately predict prognosis and indicate the tumor microenvironment of patients with CM. Thus, our study provides a new perspective for the future clinical treatment of CM.

RESUMEN

Dye wastewater and discarded biofiber have brought huge pressure to sustainable developments of ecology and economy. By utilizing dopamine chemistry and benzophenone mediated "grafting onto" atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), this work reported a biomass adsorbent containing discarded wool substrate, photocatalytic PDA coating and zwitterionic polymer brushes for dyes removal. The grafted zwitterionic polymer brushes impart the material with not only high adsorption capacity and rapid adsorption rate, but also switchable adsorption selectivity and pH-controlled regeneration capability. Benefiting from such outstanding adsorption performance and excellent free-standing property, the adsorbent could fulfill diversified needs of both static and dynamic adsorptions. Under daylight, the constructed photocatalytic PDA coating could in-situ degrade the captured pollutant, thus achieving consecutive adsorption-degradation-regeneration utilization. Furthermore, through simple dip-coating and cleaner UV-irradiation techniques, the preparation process could be scaled up. This work contributes to both the upcycling of discarded biofiber waste and the development of advanced biomass adsorbent.
