RESUMEN

Objective: To explore the value of a two-stitch continuous suture in single- lumen ileostomy. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. Data for 98 patients who underwent single-lumen enterostomy were retrospectively collected between 1 January 2021 and 1 May 2022 at Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University. All patients met the indications for prophylactic single-lumen ileostomy. Those older than 80 years of age, with complex underlying diseases, extremely poor systemic conditions who could not tolerate surgery, poor blood supply at the end of the bowel, and severe edema or severe infection at the end of the bowel were excluded. Among the included patients, patients who underwent surgery before 1 October 2021 underwent ileostomy with interrupted suture (control group, n=60), and patients operated on and after 1 October 2021 routinely underwent two-stitch continuous suture ileostomy (two-stitch stoma group, n=38). Two-stitch continuous suture ileostomy is performed as follows: the first continuous suture is used to suture the intestinal seromuscular layer, peritoneum, posterior sheath, and anterior sheath from deep to superficial layers. The bowel wall is then opened. The second continuous suture is used to suture the full thickness of the bowel and the skin. The differences in postoperative ostomy-related complications and operation time were compared between the groups. Results: There were no significant differences in baseline data between the groups (all, P>0.05). The operative time in the two-stitch stoma group was shorter than that of the control group (16.6±2.2 minutes vs. 25.1±2.4 minutes, respectively; t=-17.874;P<0.001). The incidences of mucocutaneous separation, dermatitis, and stoma rebound in the two-stitch stoma group were lower than those of the control group [5.3% (2/38) vs. 31.7% (19/60), χ2=9.633, P=0.002;5.3% (2/38) vs. 28.3% (17/60), χ2=7.923, P=0.005; and 2.6% (1/38) vs. 18.3% (11/60), P=0.026, respectively], while the incidences of parastomal hernia and stoma prolapse, and the postoperative visual analog scale scores in the two groups were similar (all P>0.05). Conclusion: Compared with traditional single-lumen ileostomy, two-stitch continuous suture ileostomy has the advantages of short operation time, simplicity, esthetic appearance of the stoma, and a significant reduction in the postoperative complications associated with ileostomy.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Thitarodes larvae are the host of the caterpillar fungus Ophiocordyceps sinensis. Low temperature is the main environmental limitation for larvae growth. OBJECTIVE: To better understand the cold adaption process in T. pui larvae, the expression patterns of trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TpTPS), heat shock protein 70 (TpHSP70), and heat shock protein 90 (TpHSP90) were investigated upon short and long-term exposure to 0°C. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The 6th instar T. pui larvae were collected in July 2013. TpTPS was firstly sequenced and expression patterns of TpTPS, TpHSP70 and TpHSP90 were investigated using quantitative PCR. RESULTS: Full-length cDNA of TpTPS was 3,012 bp, with an open reading frame of 2,472 bp and an encoding protein of 823 amino acids. TpTPS up-regulation was induced by cold exposure. TpHSP70 expression is altered by cold exposure, but remained low. TpHSP90 expression was obviously up regulated in long-term cold stimulation. CONCLUSION: All three genes (TpTPS, TpHSP70 and TpHSP90) have likely contributed to cold tolerance in T. pui larvae, TpTPS and TpHSP90 potentially being more important.

RESUMEN

A clinical and experimental study to evaluate effects of the Jianpi Yiqi (JPYQ, Invigorate the spleen and supplement the Qi) prescription was conducted, in contrast to 51 cases treated with transfer factor. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences between two groups for therapeutical effects (P < 0.005). In the experimental group, the effective rate and the total effective rate were respectively 75% and 92.1; while in control group, 8% and 72%. Measuring immunoglobulin (IgG), both groups were increased, but the experimental group was higher than that of control (P < 0.001). The inactivation in oxygen free radicals of JPYQ was determined by electron spin resonance (ESR) in vitro. When the concentration was 5%, the clearance rate of the more reactive hydroxyl radical (.OH) was 78%, and superoxide radical (O2.-) was 38%. Whether direct dissolution or dissolution combined with dialysis was performed, there was superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity. In addition, the relationship between infantile repetitive respiratory infection with Spleen Qi Deficiency and free radicals were discussed.

RESUMEN

Wistar rats of both sex were used. Ros A was intravenously injected 5-10 min before blood collection or the ligation of vena cava. 1. Stasis-induced venous thrombosis: A tight ligature was applied to inferior vena cava below the left renal vein in anesthetized rats. The abdominal walls were closed and then reopened two hours later. The vena cava was clamped 2 cm below the ligature. This segment was cut to remove the thrombus. The dry weight of the thrombus was determined. 2. Platelet aggregation: Using Born's method the platelet aggregation induced by collagen or ADP was studied. 3. Blood coagulation times: Blood recalcium time (RT), kaolin partial thromboplastin time (KPTT) and prothrombin time (PT) were estimated. 4. Plasma fibrinolytic activity was observed by the determination of euglobulinolytic time (ELT). Plasma fibrinogen content was estimated based on the biuret reaction. The venous thrombosis was inhibited by 41.9% and 54.8% (P < 0.05) when Ros A was injected at the dosages of 50 and 100 mg/kg. The blood platelet aggregation elicited by collagen was suppressed by 30.4% (P < 0.05) and 46.4% (P < 0.01) after the injection of Ros A at doses of 100 and 150 mg/kg respectively. The ELT was shortened after the injection of Ros A (100 and 150 mg/kg) as compared with the control value (P < 0.05), while the plasma fibrinogen content remained unchanged. The results that Ros A showed mild antithrombotic effect. The mechanism of this effect might be related to its inhibition of platelet aggregation and promotion of fibrinolytic activity.

RESUMEN

The authors' traditional Chinese herbal prescription, Qiang Zhuang Ling, was used to treat childhood anorexia with Spleen deficiency. For comparison, a group of cases treated by zinc sulphate solution was also set up as controls. After a course of treatment, the therapeutic effect in the Qiang Zhuang Ling group was significantly better than in the zinc sulphate group. Furthermore, in both groups, the level of hair zinc were markedly increased; the ultrastructure of hair was recovered; and the activity of macrophages was enhanced.
