RESUMEN

Clove (Syzygium aromaticum) is one of the most commonly used spices in stewed beef to enrich and improve its aroma during the stewing process. Gas chromatography ion mobility spectroscopy (GC-IMS), Q Exactive GC-Orbitrap-MS-O (QE-GC-MS/O), combined with sensory evaluation were employed to analyze the flavor endowment of aroma-active compounds in cloves to stewed beef. A total of 173 volatiles were identified in the clove powder (CP), stewed beef with clove (SBC), and stewed beef with salt (SBS), of which 21 volatiles were considered as aroma-active compounds. The concept of flavor endowment of aroma-active compounds in cloves was defined innovatively, and the endowment rate values (ERVs) of stewed beef were calculated. Nine aroma-active compounds in cloves were found to have a flavor endowment effect on stewed beef, while the terpenoids exhibited high ERVs. Despite the low ERV of eugenol, it still significantly impacted the aroma profile of SBC due to its high odor activity value (OAV) and flavor dilution (FD) factor. These volatiles offered mainly the clove, herbal, anise, and floral odor to stewed beef, which was also confirmed by sensory evaluation. These findings indicated that the terpenoids, phenolics and ethers in cloves had a significant influence on the overall aroma of stewed beef through the flavor endowment, which contributed to the precise use of cloves and improved the aroma of stewed beef.

A novel system for measuring net photochemical ozone production rates in the atmosphere based on cavity ring-down spectroscopy (OPR-CRDS) was developed. The system consists of two chambers (a reaction chamber and a reference chamber) and a dual-channel Ox-CRDS detector. To minimize the wall loss of Ox in the chambers, the inner surfaces of both chambers are coated with Teflon film. The performance of the OPR-CRDS system was characterized. It was found that even though the photolysis frequency (J value) decreased by 10%, the decrease in the P(O3) caused by the ultraviolet-blocking film coating was less than 3%. The two chambers had a good consistency in the mean residence time and the measurement of NO2 and Ox under the condition of no sunlight. The detection limit of the OPR-CRDS was determined to be 0.20 ppbv/hr. To further verify the accuracy of the system, the direct measurement values of the OPR-CRDS system were compared with the calculation results based on radical (OH, HO2, and RO2) reactions, and a good correlation was obtained between the measured and calculated values. Finally, the developed instrument was applied to obtain the comprehensive field observations at an urban site in the Yangtze River Delta (China) for 40 days, the time series and change characteristics of the P(O3) were obtained directly, and the good environmental adaptability and stability of the OPR-CRDS system were demonstrated. It is expected that the new instrument will be beneficial to investigations of the relationship between P(O3) and its precursors.

VOCs (Volatile organic compounds) exert a vital role in ozone and secondary organic aerosol production, necessitating investigations into their concentration, chemical characteristics, and source apportionment for the effective implementation of measures aimed at preventing and controlling atmospheric pollution. From July to October 2020, online monitoring was conducted in the main urban area of Shijiazhuang to collect data on VOCs and analyze their concentrations and reactivity. Additionally, the PMF (positive matrix factorization) method was utilized to identify the VOCs sources. Results indicated that the TVOCs (total VOCs) concentration was (96.7 ± 63.4 µg/m3), with alkanes exhibiting the highest concentration of (36.1 ± 26.4 µg/m3), followed by OVOCs (16.4 ± 14.4 µg/m3). The key active components were alkenes and aromatics, among which xylene, propylene, toluene, propionaldehyde, acetaldehyde, ethylene, and styrene played crucial roles as reactive species. The sources derived from PMF analysis encompassed vehicle emissions, solvent and coating sources, combustion sources, industrial emissions sources, as well as plant sources, the contribution of which were 37.80%, 27.93%, 16.57%, 15.24%, and 2.46%, respectively. Hence, reducing vehicular exhaust emissions and encouraging neighboring industries to adopt low-volatile organic solvents and coatings should be prioritized to mitigate VOCs levels.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the influence of visual attraction conditions on drivers' cognitive workload and physiological responses, assessed through heart rate variability (HRV) indicators. The study examined four experimental scenarios, including a baseline condition and three visual attractions (landscape-style architecture, tip slogan, and billboard) at tunnel entrances. METHODS: HRV indicators, including RMSSD, SDNN, LF, and LF/HF ratio, were analyzed to assess cognitive workload and physiological states. The study collected data from a sample of drivers under each experimental scenario and compared the HRV measures across conditions. RESULTS: The presence of visual attractions at tunnel entrances significantly impacted drivers' HRV. The introduction of visual attractions resulted in decreased RMSSD and SDNN values, indicating increased cognitive workload and reduced adaptability of the autonomic nervous system. Moreover, visual attractions led to increased LF values and LF/HF ratio, suggesting heightened sympathetic activation and potential cognitive engagement. CONCLUSIONS: Visual attractions have a significant impact on drivers' cognitive workload and physiological responses. Designing tunnel entrances with a balance between visual attractiveness and cognitive demands is essential to optimize drivers' cognitive performance and overall driving experience. These findings provide valuable insights for transportation authorities and designers to create safer and more user-friendly tunnel environments.

BACKGROUND: Mobile health apps can facilitate access to effective treatment and therapeutic information services. However, the real-world effectiveness of mobile apps for smoking cessation and their potential impact in everyday settings remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: In an ecological context, this study aimed to estimate the engagement rate of a mobile app-based smoking cessation preparation program and its potential impact on users' willingness, ability, and readiness to quit smoking. METHODS: A total of 2331 "organic users" (ie, users who discover and install a mobile app on their own, without any prompts) chose 1 of 2 program versions of the mobile app (Kwit): the basic version or the premium version. Both versions were identical in design, with 4 more evidence-based content items and strategies in the premium version. Outcomes were analyzed based on automated data registered in the app (engagement rate, motivation to quit, motivation type, motivation levels, and satisfaction level). Mann-Whitney and χ2 tests were used to compare the results of both groups. RESULTS: As expected, in the ecological context, a high dropout rate was observed at different moments. A significant difference was observed between the 2 versions (n=2331; χ21=5.4; P=.02), with a proportionally higher engagement rate in the premium version (premium=4.7% vs basic=2%). Likewise, differences were also observed between the 2 groups in terms of reasons to quit (n=2331; χ24=19; P≤.001; V=0.08), motivation type (n=2331; χ27=14.7; P=.04), and motivation level. Users of the app's premium version more frequently reported "well-being" (23.3% vs 17.9%) and "planning a pregnancy" (7.4% vs 4.4%) as their primary reasons for quitting smoking compared to those with the basic version. Moreover, they reported being more likely to be driven in the smoking cessation process by intrinsic motivation (premium=28% vs basic=20.4%), as well as feeling significantly more willing (z score=156,055; P≤.001; Cohen d=0.15), able (z score=172,905; P=.04; Cohen d=0.09), and ready (z score=166,390; P=.005; Cohen d=0.12) to stop smoking than users who had the basic version before completion of the preparation program. Among participants who finished each version of the program (premium: 9/189, 4.8%; basic: 47/2142, 2.19%), significant improvements in motivation levels were observed in both groups, although in different areas for each group (willingness levels for the premium group and ability for the basic group). CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that even in ecological contexts where engagement rates are meager, the Kwit preparation program can address ambivalence by increasing willingness to change, self-confidence, and readiness to quit among its users, especially those who feel less able to do so. Further development and evaluations are needed to better understand determinants for regular mobile health apps.

In serpentine soils, the low level of calcium relative to magnesium (Ca:Mg) is detrimental to the growth of most plant species. Ecotypic variation in Erythranthe guttata allows for some populations to maintain high photosynthetic rates and biomass despite low Ca:Mg. In this study, the mechanism of tolerance was investigated by treating hydroponically grown plants with either high (1.0) or low (0.02) Ca:Mg growth solutions and assaying excised leaf discs for rates of photosynthesis and disc expansion, and for starch, Ca2+ and Mg2+ ion concentrations. Low Ca:Mg in the assay solutions reduced both photosynthesis and leaf disc expansion after one week of treatment. However, serpentine tissues show stable photosynthetic rates after one week and a recovery in leaf tissue expansion after two weeks exposure to low Ca:Mg conditions. Values for non-serpentine tissues continued to decline. Increased growth of low Ca:Mg treated discs supplied with exogenous sucrose suggests that growth in serpentine-exposed tissues is limited by availability of carbon products from photosynthesis. Serpentine leaves had higher vacuole Mg concentrations than non-serpentine leaves after three weeks of treatment with low Ca:Mg. The combination of elevated starch concentrations, reduced growth and lower vacuolar Mg concentrations in leaves of non-serpentine plants grown in low Ca:Mg indicate an inefficient use of carbon resources and starch degradation as an observed response to Mg toxicity. Together, these results suggest that serpentine E. guttata exhibits an inducible tolerance to low Ca:Mg through gradual compartmentalization of magnesium to maintain the production and metabolism of photosynthates necessary for growth.

Cognitive control processes likely influence the extent to which adolescents can successfully regulate their emotions. This study examined whether individual differences in affective inhibition and heart rate variability (HRV), as a peripheral index of cognitive control, moderated the association between momentary emotion regulation and negative affect (NA). Ecological Momentary Assessments (EMA) over 14 days were obtained in 235 adolescents (Mage = 13.48 years; 106 females). At each assessment, participants reported their current NA and the extent to which they used cognitive reappraisal and rumination. Moreover, at three time points (approximately 1 year, 6 months, and just before the EMA), affective inhibition was assessed using an affective go/no-go task and HRV was recorded at rest. Results indicate that adolescents with lower affective inhibition reported lower average levels of daily rumination. However, affective inhibition did not moderate the association between either daily cognitive reappraisal or rumination and momentary NA. Consistent with hypotheses, the association between momentary rumination and NA was weaker in adolescents showing higher levels of resting HRV. Overall, findings may underscore the importance of interventions targeting HRV as a malleable factor for enhancing adolescents' affective well-being.

Understanding the formation of risk preferences is crucial for elucidating the roots of economic, social, and health inequalities. However, this area remains inadequately explored. This study employs a risk preference measure directly linked to the labor market to examine whether previous experiences with high unemployment rates influence current risk decision-making among the elderly, and whether this impact varies by genotype. The findings indicate that individuals with low genetic predispositions for risk tolerance are more significantly influenced by historical fluctuations in unemployment rates than those with high genetic predispositions for risk tolerance. Consequently, this paper identifies genetic endowment as a crucial moderating factor that shapes how past experiences impact current decision-making processes. This disparity in how past experiences shape risk preferences based on genetic predisposition may further amplify inequalities in health, wealth, income, and other outcomes associated with risk preferences.

INTRODUCTION: Piflufolastat F-18, a prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeted radiopharmaceutical, is predominantly eliminated via urinary excretion, and the kidneys have one of the highest absorbed doses. Therefore, this subgroup analysis aimed to investigate the impact of piflufolastat F-18 on renal function and its diagnostic performance in patients stratified by baseline renal function. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The OSPREY clinical trial enrolled 2 cohorts: A-high-risk patients undergoing radical prostatectomy with pelvic lymphadenectomy, and B-patients with suspected recurrent/metastatic prostate cancer on conventional imaging. Baseline estimated glomerular filtration rates were calculated, and patients were stratified by baseline chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage. Changes in serum creatinine within 28 days postdose and diagnostic performance of piflufolastat F-18 were assessed for each CKD stage group in both cohorts. RESULTS: 385 patients (cohort A, n = 268; cohort B, n = 117) underwent piflufolastat F-18-PET/CT. Baseline and postpiflufolastat F-18 median creatinine levels (mg/dL) were similar for patients in cohort A (0.95 [n = 264] vs. 0.95 [n = 252], respectively) and cohort B (0.93 [n = 116] vs. 0.96 [n = 84], respectively). Among 332 men (cohort A, n = 249; cohort B, n = 83) with baseline and postpiflufolastat creatinine measurements, there were minimal changes in creatinine across all baseline CKD stage groups (median change ranged from -0.02 to 0.023 in groups with >1 patient). The diagnostic performance of piflufolastat F-18 showed no meaningful differences when stratified by baseline CKD stage. CONCLUSION: Piflufolastat F-18 appears to be safe and effective for imaging prostate cancer, including men with mild/moderate renal insufficiency.

OBJECTIVE: Pulse transit time (PTT) is a popular indicator of blood pressure (BP) changes. However, the relationship between PTT and BP is somehow individual dependent, resulting in the inaccuracy of PTT-based BP estimation. Confounding factors, e.g., heart rate (HR), of PTT and BP could be the primary cause. In this study we attempt to explore the impact of HR as a window to look at the influence of confounding factors on the relationship between PTT and BP. APPROACH: We investigated the relationship between PTT and systolic BP (SBP) at different HR levels by introducing the heterogeneous treatment effects (HTE) as a quantitative indicator. Compared to the average HR calculated using traditional indicators (e. g. regression coefficient, correlation coefficient), the HTE calculation method can compute the relationship between PTT and SBP at different HR levels, and reduce the influence of confounding factors. MAIN RESULTS: We analyzed the HTE of PTT and SBP of 47 subjects who are resting healthy young people with varying levels of HR. The results showed that the strength of the HTE of PTT and SBP varied with HR, indicating that the strength of the causal relationship between PTT and SBP is subject to HR levels. Whereas the correlation between SBP and PTT was individual dependent; either the strength or the direction of the correlation can vary with HR. We further investigated the group in which PTT and SBP exhibited a negative correlation, and found that about 50% of the subjects showed enhanced strength of HTE in with an increase in HR and the remaining showed the opposite. SIGNIFICANCE: This study means that HR needs to be considered when PTT is used as an indicator of SBP.

This study examined integrating high-rate contact stabilization (HRCS) and chemically enhanced primary treatment (CEPT) for wastewater to improve the carbon recovery rate (CRR). Enhancing chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency was hypothesized to improve the CRR. The evaluation covered serial HRCS-CEPT, serial CEPT-HRCS, and single-stage carbon recovery (Single-CR). The COD removal efficiencies for individual HRCS and CEPT were 50.3 % and 56.2 %, respectively. The serial CEPT-HRCS system failed in the HRCS process due to poor settling, resulting in microbial washout. However, the serial HRCS-CEPT system achieved the highest COD removal efficiency (84.5 %). The Single-CR system exhibited the highest CRR of 0.780 ±â€¯0.083 g-CODCH4/g-CODinf, identifying it as the most promising process for energy-positive wastewater treatment. The selective pressure in the high-rate system resulted in a simplified and specialized bacterial community, mainly comprising microorganisms with high polyhydroxyalkanoate storage capacity, such as Lactococcus sp., Enterobacter sp., and Acinetobacter sp.

Although sodium-glucose transport protein-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors (SGLT2i) do not increase the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in general, they may pose a risk in patients undergoing angiography. This prospective cohort study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of SGLT2i for post-contrast AKI (PC-AKI) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Following screening, 306 patients with T2DM selected to undergo coronary arterial angiography with or without percutaneous intervention were enrolled. Patients were divided into the SGLT2i exposure and non-exposure groups. The primary outcome was PC-AKI, defined as an increase in serum creatinine levels > 0.5 mg/dL (44.2 µmol/L), or 25% above the baseline, within 48-72 h after exposure to contrast medium. The incidence of PC-AKI in the overall T2DM population was 5.2% (16/306). Following 1:1 propensity score matching, the incidence of PC-AKI was significantly higher in the SGLT2i group than in the non-SGLT2i group (10.7% vs. 2.9%; P = 0.027), with an odds ratio of 4.5 (95% confidence interval: 1.0-20.2; P = 0.047). Furthermore, PC-AKI occurred at a higher rate among short-term users of SGLT2i than long-term users (20.5% vs. 3.4%, P = 0.018). Thus, our findings suggest an increased risk of PC-AKI associated with short-term SGLT2i therapy in patients with T2DM.

Improving the historically low reproductive performance of beef cattle in smallholder systems is essential for its productivity and profitability. Therefore, identifying and addressing risk factors associated with low performance in this system present an opportunity for improvement. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of animal and management risk factors on pregnancy rate (PR), fetal and calf loss (FC), calving interval (CI) and days open (DO) in smallholder beef cattle farms. A multi-stage selection approach was conducted in five provinces of South Africa. Cow records (3694) collected from 40 smallholder herds over two years (2018-2019) were analysed. Data on animal and herd management factors including body condition score (BCS), cow age class, breed type, lactation status, culling old/non-productive cows, record-keeping, and breeding and calving seasons were recorded. The GLIMMIX procedure was computed to determine risk factors associated with performance indicators (PR, FC, CI and DO). Risk factors highly associated with performance were breed type, BCS, cow-age class and breeding/calving season (P ≤ 0.05). Indicators FC, DO and CI increased with decreased BCS, autumn calving seasons, and in first calvers and aged cows. Whereas, PR increased with increasing odds of BCS and breeding seasons between December-March, November-February and January-March. Optimizing reproductive performance in smallholder beef cattle herds may involve managing cow body condition, breeding with adapted genotypes and synchronizing breeding with favourable seasons. Therefore, record keeping and regular monitoring of herd nutrition, climate and breed performance may be significant in improving reproductive performance in smallholder herds.

BACKGROUND: Disease-vector mosquito monitoring is an essential prerequisite to optimize control interventions and evidence-based risk predictions. However, conventional entomological monitoring methods are labor- and time-consuming and do not allow high temporal/spatial resolution. In 2022, a novel system coupling an optical sensor with machine learning technologies (VECTRACK) proved effective in counting and identifying Aedes albopictus and Culex pipiens adult females and males. Here, we carried out the first extensive field evaluation of the VECTRACK system to assess: (i) whether the catching capacity of a commercial BG-Mosquitaire trap (BGM) for adult mosquito equipped with VECTRACK (BGM + VECT) was affected by the sensor; (ii) the accuracy of the VECTRACK algorithm in correctly classifying the target mosquito species genus and sex; (iii) Ae. albopictus capture rate of BGM with or without VECTRACK. METHODS: The same experimental design was implemented in four areas in northern (Bergamo and Padua districts), central (Rome) and southern (Procida Island, Naples) Italy. In each area, three types of traps-one BGM, one BGM + VECT and the combination of four sticky traps (STs)-were rotated each 48 h in three different sites. Each sampling scheme was replicated three times/area. Collected mosquitoes were counted and identified by both the VECTRACK algorithm and operator-mediated morphological examination. The performance of the VECTRACK system was assessed by generalized linear mixed and linear regression models. Aedes albopictus capture rates of BGMs were calculated based on the known capture rate of ST. RESULTS: A total of 3829 mosquitoes (90.2% Ae. albopictus) were captured in 18 collection-days/trap/site. BGM and BGM + VECT showed a similar performance in collecting target mosquitoes. Results show high correlation between visual and automatic identification methods (Spearman Ae. albopictus: females = 0.97; males = 0.89; P < 0.0001) and low count errors. Moreover, the results allowed quantifying the heterogeneous effectiveness associated with different trap types in collecting Ae. albopictus and predicting estimates of its absolute density. CONCLUSIONS: Obtained results strongly support the VECTRACK system as a powerful tool for mosquito monitoring and research, and its applicability over a range of ecological conditions, accounting for its high potential for continuous monitoring with minimal human effort.

The electrocatalytic carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide reduction reaction (CO2RR or CORR) features a sustainable method for reducing carbon emissions and producing value-added chemicals. However, the generation of C3 products with higher energy density and market values, such as n-propanol, remains highly challenging, which is attributed to the unclear formation mechanism of C3+ versus C2 products. In this work, by the Tafel slope analysis, electrolyte pH correlation exploration, and the kinetic analysis of CO partial pressure fitting, it is identified that both n-propanol and C2 products share the same rate-determining step, which is the coupling of two C1 intermediates via the derivation of the Butler-Volmer equation. In addition, inspired by the mechanistic study, it is proposed that a high OH─ concentration and a water-limited environment are beneficial for promoting the subsequent *C2-*C1 coupling to n-propanol. At 5.0 m [OH-], the partial current density of producing n-propanol (jn-propanol) reached 45 mA cm-2, which is 35 and 1.3 times higher than that at 0.01 m [OH-] and 1.0 m [OH-], respectively. This study provides a comprehensive kinetic analysis of n-propanol production and suggests opportunities for designing new catalytic systems for promoting the C3 production.

Background: Elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) is a new cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulator that has transformed the respiratory prognosis of people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF). However, its impact on other organs such as the kidneys, where CFTR is expressed, remains unclear. Since pwCF are risk of both kidney disease and urolithiasis, we aimed to study the potential effects of ETI on renal function, volume status, and risk factors for urolithiasis. Methods: This prospective, observational, single-center, before-after cohort study, involved adult pwCF eligible for ETI. The changes in plasma and urinary profiles were assessed by comparing renal function (using 2021 CKD-EPIcreatinine and 2021 CKD-EPIcreatinine-cystatin C formulas), volume status (using aldosterone/renin ratio and blood pressure), and risk factors for urolithiasis, at the time of ETI introduction (M0) and 7 months after (M7). Results: Nineteen pwCF were included. No significant change in renal function was observed between M0 and M7 (2021 CKD-EPIcreatinine: 105.5 ml/min/1.73 m² at M0 vs. 103.3 ml/min/1.73 m² at M7; P = .17). There was a significant reduction in aldosterone level (370.3 pmol/l at M0 vs. 232.4 pmol/l at M7; P = .02) and aldosterone/renin ratio (33.6 at M0 vs. 21.8 at M7; P = .03). Among the risk factors for urolithiasis, a significant reduction in magnesuria level was found (4.6 mmol/d at M0 vs. 3.8 mmol/d at M7; P = .01). Conclusion: These findings suggest that ETI seem to have no short-term impact on the renal function of adult pwCF and appears to correct secondary hyperaldosteronism due to excessive sweat losses. Further investigations are needed to determine the potential impact of decreased magnesuria observed under ETI therapy on the risk of urolithiasis.

Introduction: Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that helps treat chronic asthma and allergic rhinitis by reducing inflammation and bronchoconstriction. However, oral montelukast's effectiveness in managing acute asthma attacks has yet to be completely identified. Methods: This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial investigated the efficacy of oral montelukast in acute exacerbations of asthma. Seventy patients between 18 and 65 years of age with a primary diagnosis of asthma attack were included in the study and were randomly assigned to receive 10 mg of montelukast orally daily or placebo. Symptoms, signs, forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), and peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) were evaluated. Results: Our findings showed a statistically significant difference between montelukast and placebo regarding FEV1 (78.05 ± 7.84 vs. 72.05 ± 12.00, P = 0.016), PEFR (322.86 ± 28.95 vs. 290.86 ± 44.21, P = 0.003), and wheezing (P = 0.022) on the fifth day of treatment. Additionally, FEV1 and PEFR values were compared in two subgroups of patients, ICS users (ICSU) and non-ICS users (NICSU), in both the montelukast and placebo groups. In the montelukast group, while PEFR improved significantly for day 5 in both the ICSU (P = 0.007) and NICSU (P = 0.027) subgroups, FEV1 only improved in the ICSU (P = 0.009) subgroup compared to placebo. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that oral montelukast administered in acute asthma exacerbation could lead to better values of PEFR and FEV1 on pulmonary function and improvement of wheezing in terms of symptoms.

Background: Minerals play an important role in human health, but their effect on urinary function remains controversial. The aim of this study was to assess the association between dietary intake of minerals (Ca, P, Mg, Fe, Zn, Cu, Na, K, Se) and urine flow rate (UFR). Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES, 2009-2018) database. Multivariate regression and smooth curve fitting were used to investigate the association between dietary mineral intakes and UFR. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests were used to investigate whether this association was stable in the population. Results: Our study involving 10,229 representative adult NHANES participants showed an association between Mg intake and UFR in a linear regression model for continuous variables. And in the model analysis of tertile categorical variables, we observed a positive association between six mineral intakes (Ca, Mg, Zn, Cu, Na, and K) and UFR. Smoothed curve fitting and threshold effect analysis further support the nonlinear relationship between mineral intakes and UFR. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests ensured the reliability and robustness of the findings. Conclusion: This study examined the effects of nine dietary minerals on UFR and found that intake of Ca, Mg, Zn, Cu, Na, and K were positively correlated with UFR, suggesting that these minerals may have a positive effect on improving urinary function. In particular, Mg showed a more significant positive correlation with UFR in women, while Na showed a stronger positive correlation in diabetics. However, P, Fe and Se did not show significant correlations. In summary, although these findings provide a preliminary understanding of the relationship between dietary minerals and urinary function, further prospective studies are still necessary to validate these relationships and explore the physiologic mechanisms underlying them.

BACKGROUND: Lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) is a strong and independent risk factor that increases the probability of endometrial carcinoma (EC) recurrence and reduces the survival rate of patients. PURPOSE: To investigate the value of amide proton transfer weighted (APTw) and mDixon-Quant techniques in evaluating EC lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data of 50 EC patients (18 LVSI+ and 32 LVSI-) confirmed by surgery and pathology were retrospectively analyzed. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans included APTw and mDixon-Quant imaging. APT, transverse relaxation rate (R2*), and fat fraction (FF) plots were obtained by postprocessing. The APT, R2*, and FF values of the two groups of cases were measured by two observers. RESULTS: The agreement between the two observers was good. The mean APT, R2*, and FF values of LVSI+ EC were 2.947% ± 0.399%, 20.605 /s (range = 18.525-27.953), and 2.234% ± 1.047%, respectively, while the parameters of LVSI- EC were 2.628% ± 0.307%, 18.968 /s (range = 16.225-20.544), and 2.103% ± 1.070%, respectively. The APT and R2* values of LVSI+ EC were higher than those of LVSI- EC (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in FF value between the two groups. The AUC values of APT, R2*, and APT + R2* for LVSI were 0.751, 0.713, and 0.781, respectively (all P > 0.05). APT value was moderately correlated with R2* value (r = 0.528, P < 0.001) and weakly correlated with FF value (r = 0.312, P = 0.027). CONCLUSION: APTw and mDixon-Quant techniques could evaluate the LVSI status of EC, and their combined application could improve diagnostic efficiency.

Advancing battery electrode performance is essential for high-power applications. Traditional fabrication methods for porous electrodes, while effective, often face challenges of complexity, cost, and environmental impact. Inspired by acupuncture, here we introduce an eco-friendly and cost-effective microneedle process for fabricating lithium iron phosphate electrodes. This technique employs commercial cosmetic microneedle molds to create low-curvature holes on electrode surfaces, significantly enhancing electrolyte infiltration and ion transport kinetics. The punctured electrodes were prepared and characterized, with comparisons to pristine electrodes conducted using scanning electron microscopy, 3D metallurgical microscopy, and detailed electrochemical evaluations. Our results show that the microneedle-processed electrodes exhibit superior rate performance and diffusion properties. Simulations and experimental data reveal that the low-curvature holes reduce Li-ion concentration polarization and improve Li-ion transport within the electrode. This enhancement leads to higher specific capacities and better rate capabilities in the punctured electrodes. The findings highlight the potential of this innovative microneedle technique for large-scale production of high-performance electrodes, offering a promising avenue for the development of high-power-density batteries.
