Objectives: To identify and classify submucosal tumors by building and validating a radiomics model with gastrointestinal endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) images. Methods: A total of 144 patients diagnosed with submucosal tumors through gastrointestinal EUS were collected between January 2019 and October 2020. There are 1952 radiomic features extracted from each patient's EUS images. The statistical test and the customized least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression were used for feature selection. Subsequently, an extremely randomized trees algorithm was utilized to construct a robust radiomics classification model specifically tailored for gastrointestinal EUS images. The performance of the model was measured by evaluating the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: The radiomics model comprised 30 selected features that showed good discrimination performance in the validation cohorts. During validation, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was calculated as 0.9203 and the mean value after 10-fold cross-validation was 0.9260, indicating excellent stability and calibration. These results confirm the clinical utility of the model. Conclusions: Utilizing the dataset provided curated from gastrointestinal EUS examinations at our collaborating hospital, we have developed a well-performing radiomics model. It can be used for personalized and non-invasive prediction of the type of submucosal tumors, providing physicians with aid for early treatment and management of tumor progression.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the usefulness of endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue acquisition (EUS-TA) for diagnosing focal liver lesions in patients with a history of multiple primary malignant neoplasms. Methods: Among patients who underwent EUS-TA for focal liver lesions between 2016 and 2022, those with a history of multiple malignant neoplasms were included. A histologically confirmed malignant tumor within the past 5 years before EUS-TA was defined as a history of malignant neoplasm. The primary outcomes were diagnostic ability and adverse events of EUS-TA. Results: This study included 16 patients (median age, 73 [33-90] years), the median tumor size was 32 (6-51) mm, 14 had a history of double malignant neoplasms, whereas two had triple malignant neoplasms. Malignant neoplasms were detected histologically or cytologically in all cases. Immunohistochemistry was performed in 75% (12/16), and the final diagnosis of EUS-TA was metastatic liver tumor in 12 patients, and primary malignant liver tumor in four patients. The primary site could be identified in 11 of 12 metastatic tumor cases. The diagnostic yield of EUS-TA was 100% (16/16) for differentiating benign and malignant tumors and 94% (15/16) for confirming the histological type including the primary site of metastatic lesions. No adverse events were associated with the procedure. Conclusion: EUS-TA is a useful diagnostic modality for focal liver lesions in patients with a history of multiple malignant neoplasms, allowing for the differential diagnosis of primary and metastatic tumors and identification of the primary site of metastatic lesions.

Gossypiboma is an extremely rare adverse event occurring post-surgery, where surgical gauze is left within the body. If aseptically retained, it can lead to the formation of granulation tissue through chronic inflammation and adhesion with surrounding tissues, potentially persisting asymptomatically for many years. While diagnosis of this condition has been reported through various imaging modalities such as abdominal ultrasound and computed tomography, cases not presenting with typical findings are difficult for preoperative diagnosis, and instances where it is discovered postoperatively exist. Particularly when in contact with the gastrointestinal tract within the abdominal cavity, differentiation from submucosal tumors of the digestive tract becomes problematic. This report describes the imaging characteristics of endoscopic ultrasound and the usefulness of endoscopic ultrasound-fine-needle-aspiration for tissue diagnosis in the preoperative diagnosis of intra-abdominal gossypiboma.

Objectives: The safety and effectiveness of propofol in more complex endoscopic procedures, such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, remain unknown. Thus, we aimed to evaluate propofol sedation during endoscopic cholangiopancreatography, ultrasound-guided intervention, and gastroduodenal stenting and examine risk factors for excessive sedation. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from 870 patients who underwent endoscopic treatment with propofol sedation for biliary and pancreatic disease between October 2020 and September 2021. Sedation included propofol and fentanyl, with continuous monitoring of vital signs and the bispectral index. The assessed risk factors included age, complications, body mass index, treatment duration, and specialty. Results: Distal bile duct treatment (n = 367), hilar bile duct treatment (n = 197), post-small-intestinal reconstruction treatment (n = 75), endoscopic ultrasound-guided intervention (n = 140), and gastrointestinal obstruction treatment (n = 91) were performed. The rates of excessive sedation, hypoxemia, and hypotension were 7.8%, 6.0%, and 1.8%, respectively. Post-small-intestinal reconstruction treatment had the highest incidence rate of excessive sedation (16%), whereas endoscopic ultrasound-guided intervention had the lowest incidence rate (4.3%). Multivariate analysis revealed significant associations between excessive sedation and comorbid sleep apnea, obesity, and prolonged procedural time. Conclusions: Obesity, sleep apnea syndrome, and prolonged procedure time are risk factors for excessive sedation related to propofol use. Thus, sedation techniques should be tailored for these patients.

Ferroptosis, triggered by iron overload and excessive lipid peroxidation, plays a pivotal role in the progression of DOX-induced cardiomyopathy (DIC), and thus limits the use of doxorubicin (DOX) in clinic. Here, we further showed that cardiac ferroptosis induced by DOX in mice was attributed to up-regulation of Hmox1, as knockdown of Hmox1 effectively inhibited cardiomyocyte ferroptosis. To targeted delivery of siRNA into cardiomyocytes, siRNA-encapsulated exosomes were injected followed by ultrasound microbubble targeted destruction (UTMD) in the heart region. UTMD greatly facilitated exosome delivery into heart. Consistently, UTMD assisted exosomal delivery of siHomox1 nearly blocked the ferroptosis and the subsequent cardiotoxicity induced by doxorubicin. In summary, our findings reveal that the upregulation of HMOX1 induces ferroptosis in cardiomyocytes and UTMD-assisted exosomal delivery of siHmox1 can be used as a potential therapeutic strategy for DIC.

Molecular ultrasound imaging with actively targeted microbubbles (MB) proved promising in preclinical studies but its clinical translation is limited. To achieve this, it is essential that the actively targeted MB can be produced with high batch-to-batch reproducibility with a controllable and defined number of binding ligands on the surface. In this regard, poly (n-butyl cyanoacrylate) (PBCA)-based polymeric MB have been used for US molecular imaging, however, ligand coupling was mostly done via hydrolysis and carbodiimide chemistry, which is a multi-step procedure with poor reproducibility and low MB yield. Herein, we developed a single-step coupling procedure resulting in high MB yields with minimal batch-to-batch variation. Actively targeted PBCA-MB were generated using an aminolysis protocol, wherein amine-containing cRGD was added to the MB using lithium methoxide as a catalyst. We confirmed the successful conjugation of cRGD on the MB surface, while preserving their structure and acoustic signal. Compared to the conventional hydrolysis protocol, aminolysis resulted in higher MB yields and better reproducibility of coupling efficiency. Optical imaging revealed that under flow conditions, cRGD- and rhodamine-labelled MB, generated by aminolysis, specifically bind to tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) activated endothelial cells in vitro. Furthermore, US molecular imaging demonstrated a markedly higher binding of the cRGD-MB than of control MB in TNF-α activated mouse aortas and 4T1 tumors in mice. Thus, using the aminolysis based conjugation approach, important refinements on the production of cRGD-MB could be achieved that will facilitate the production of clinical-scale formulations with excellent binding and ultrasound imaging performance.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the therapeutic effect and mechanism of Danggui Buxue Tang in the treatment of biceps longus tendon lesions, and to preliminarily explore the relevant factors affecting this injury. METHODS: Using network pharmacology analysis methods, the potential mechanism of Danggui Buxue Tang in treating key lesions of the long head of the biceps brachii muscle was studied. RESULTS: Model analysis revealed 44 protein-protein interactions associated with long head binding. The distribution of 19 strongly correlated targets is Pharmaper>SEA>Stitch>Swiss. Further discovery revealed 17 immune system and inflammation related KEGG pathways with P values less than 0.01. The TNF and sphingolipid signaling pathways are associated with inflammation, while the MAPK signaling pathway is associated with immunity. Finally, it was found that the FoxO and HIF-1 signaling pathways are directly associated with long head restraint injury in the biceps brachii muscle. CONCLUSION: Danggui Buxue Tang inhibits related pathways, regulates the immune system, reduces inflammation, and alleviates disease progression. Danggui Buxue Tang can be an effective choice for treating combined lesions of the long head of the biceps brachii muscle.

Ultrasound is a ubiquitous technology in medicine for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. The functionality and efficacy of different ultrasound modes relies strongly on our understanding of the physical interactions between ultrasound waves and biological tissue structures. This article reviews the use of photoelasticity imaging for investigating ultrasound fields and interactions. Physical interactions are described for different ultrasound technologies, including those using linear and nonlinear ultrasound waves, as well as shock waves. The use of optical modulation of light by ultrasound is presented for shadowgraphic and photoelastic techniques. Investigations into shock wave and burst wave lithotripsy using photoelastic methods are summarized, along with other endoscopic forms of lithotripsy. Photoelasticity in soft tissue surrogate materials is reviewed, and its deployment in investigating tissue-bubble interactions, generated ultrasound waves, and traumatic brain injury, are discussed. With the continued growth of medical ultrasound, photoelasticity imaging can play a role in elucidating the physical mechanisms leading to useful bioeffects of ultrasound for imaging and therapy.

Introduction: The detection rate of benign thyroid nodules is increasing every year, with some affected patients experiencing symptoms. Ultrasound-guided thermal ablation can reduce the volume of nodules to alleviate symptoms. As the degree and speed of lesion absorption vary greatly between individuals, an effective model to predict curative effect after ablation is lacking. This study aims to predict the efficacy of ultrasound-guided thermal ablation for benign thyroid nodules using machine learning and explain the characteristics affecting the nodule volume reduction ratio (VRR). Design: Prospective study. Patients: The clinical and ultrasonic characteristics of patients who underwent ultrasound-guided thermal ablation of benign thyroid nodules at our hospital between January 2020 and January 2023 were recorded. Measurements: Six machine learning models (logistic regression, support vector machine, decision tree, random forest, eXtreme Gradient Boosting [XGBoost], and Light Gradient Boosting Machine [LGBM]) were constructed to predict efficacy; the effectiveness of each model was evaluated, and the optimal model selected. SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) was used to visualize the decision process of the optimal model and analyze the characteristics affecting the VRR. Results: In total, 518 benign thyroid nodules were included: 356 in the satisfactory group (VRR ≥70% 1 year after operation) and 162 in the unsatisfactory group. The optimal XGBoost model predicted satisfactory efficacy with 78.9% accuracy, 88.8% precision, 79.8% recall rate, an F1 value of 0.84 F1, and an area under the curve of 0.86. The top five characteristics that affected VRRs were the proportion of solid components < 20%, initial nodule volume, blood flow score, peripheral blood flow pattern, and proportion of solid components 50-80%. Conclusions: The models, based on interpretable machine learning, predicted the VRR after thermal ablation for benign thyroid nodules, which provided a reference for preoperative treatment decisions.

Background: Cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) encompasses conditions that affect small blood vessels of the brain, the most common being atherosclerosis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) CSVD markers include lacunar strokes (LS), white matter hyperintensities (WMH), microbleeds, enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVS), and brain atrophy. Large and small cerebral arteries share an anatomical and functional connection, but the role of large vessel atherosclerosis in atherosclerotic CSVD hasn't been established. The aim of this study was to evaluate the involvement of large vessel pathology in atherosclerotic CSVD. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 98 patients treated at the Neurology Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Serbia in Belgrade, from February 2018 to December 2023, who had atherosclerotic CSVD confirmed by neuroimaging and underwent extracranial color duplex sonography. Data on patients' gender, age, cerebrovascular risk factors (dyslipidemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking status), ultrasonography findings (intima-media thickness - IMT, carotid and vertebral artery stenosis, and hemodynamics), and CSVD imaging markers were collected, and the CSVD MRI burden score was calculated. Results: Age correlated with LS and WMH (p < 0.05 for both). Hypertension correlated with WMH (p = 0.016), and smoking with LS (p = 0.043). Brain atrophy was more common in women (p = 0.016). The majority of patients had low-grade (<50 %) carotid stenosis. There was a strong correlation between all morphological parameters of internal carotid artery stenosis and the CSVD burden score (p < 0.05 for all). The hemodynamic parameters of internal carotid artery stenosis and morphological and hemodynamic parameters of vertebral artery stenosis didn't correlate with the CSVD burden score. Conclusions: This study shows a strong correlation between cerebral large and small vessel pathology. We recommend the use of extracranial color duplex sonography in the evaluation of patients with CSVD as a supplementary method for follow-up, as this would allow the identification of patients whose condition might progress.

Objective: This study aims to examine the ultrasonographic features of secondary thyroid malignancies and compare the diagnostic efficacy of fine-needle aspiration (FNA) and core needle biopsy (CNB) in this condition. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 29 patients with secondary thyroid malignancies treated at our center between July 2011 and October 2022. Ultrasound images and clinical data were analyzed, and the lesions were classified according to the American College of Radiology Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (ACR TI-RADS). Results: Among the 29 patients studied, primary tumor sites were predominantly the esophagus, lung, and nasopharynx. Comprehensive ultrasound data was available for 28 of these patients, revealing nodular lesions in 24 cases and diffuse lesions in 4 cases. Nodular lesions were predominantly solid or nearly solid hypoechoic nodules with parallel growth and extrathyroidal extension features, with a few showing macrocalcifications. Most patients had varying degrees of metastasis to neck lymph nodes. FNA accurately diagnosed 31.6 % of the lesions as secondary thyroid malignancies, while 5.3 % were misdiagnosed as papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). However, CNB demonstrated 100 % reliability in diagnosing secondary thyroid malignancies. Conclusion: This study's categorization of secondary thyroid malignancy ultrasonographic features identifies nodular and diffuse patterns, with the application of ACR TI-RADS proving effective for nodular types. In detecting these lesions, CNB demonstrates superior sensitivity compared to FNA. Thus, in cases of thyroid lesions suspected to be malignant, particularly with enlarged neck lymph nodes and in patients with a history of malignancy, CNB is recommended as the diagnostic method of choice.

BACKGROUND: Ultrasound examination of the thyroid has emerged as a useful diagnostic and prognostic tool, along with measuring serum titers of anti-thyroid peroxidase (TPO), anti-thyroglobulin (Tg), and thyroid hormones, in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis. So, we aimed at considering correlations of ultrasonographic, antibodies, and thyroid hormone levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 149 patients (118 females, 31 males; aged 18-60 years; mean age: 38.60 ± 8.03 years) who were diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroiditis were enrolled in the study. The blood sample was taken to measure serum titers of free T3 (FT3) and T4 (FT4), TSH, anti-TPO, and anti-Tg antibody titers. The thyroid sonography of each patient was classified into one of the five grades by real-time ultrasound (US) based on echogenicity, thyroid size, and thyroid pattern. We evaluated whether there was a correlation between thyroid characteristics observed via ultrasound and serum levels of thyroid hormones, anti-TPO antibodies, and anti-Tg antibodies. RESULTS: Nodular structures were detected in 54 (36.2%) patients (38 micro-nodular and 16 macro-nodular). Echogenicity was recorded as isoechoic in 15(10.07%) and hypoechoic in 119 (79.87%) subjects. Euthyroid subjects had significantly thicker isthmus than overt and subclinical hypothyroid patients (P=0.018). Mean serum TSH, anti-Tg, and anti-TPO antibody titers showed a significant increase in patients with macro-nodules compared to those with micro-nodules and individuals without nodules (P0.05). The thickness of the isthmus had a significant negative correlation with FT4 (P=0.046; r=0.11) and FT3 (P=0.017; r=0.15), respectively. Thyroid autoantibodies had positive significant correlations with different parameters of thyroid volume (P0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Thyroid US findings, in addition to serum anti-Tg and anti-TPO antibody titers, might be correlated with the severity and extent of Hashimoto's thyroiditis, but further evaluations are needed.

Pulmonary ultrasound has become a fundamental tool for the early detection and management of major neonatal lung diseases in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The advantages of this imaging investigation include its rapid execution and information acquisition, non-invasive nature, early diagnosis establishment, dynamic monitoring, and usefulness in therapeutic management. Regarding therapeutic management, the lung ultrasound (LUS) score is used as a basic tool for indicating surfactant administration. Performing and interpreting pulmonary ultrasounds requires an experienced clinician capable of recognizing anatomical structures, understanding the limitations of the technique, and correlating the obtained data with the patient's clinical picture. A series of diagnostic characteristics of pulmonary ultrasonography for neonatal lung pathologies have been described, making pulmonary ultrasound a useful tool in establishing differential diagnoses. This study evaluates the effectiveness of ultrasonography in determining the severity of lung pathologies in newborns and its impact on therapeutic decision-making, including surfactant administration and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) support. Newborns admitted to the NICU with various respiratory conditions underwent LUS scoring. The study analyzed the relationship between LUS scoring and the severity of conditions such as pneumonia, respiratory distress syndrome, meconium aspiration syndrome, transient tachypnea of the newborn, and pneumothorax. The correlation between LUS scoring, surfactant administration, and CPAP requirements was also examined.

Heterotopic glial nodule is a rare congenital non-neoplastic lesion that is characterized by ectopic brain tissue. It has occasionally been reported to affect areas such as the nose and face. The report presents a rare case of sacrococcygeal heterotopic glial nodule. Although teratomas are the most common neoplasms in this region, clinicians and radiologists should consider heterotopic glial nodule as a differential diagnosis, despite rarity and nonspecific imaging findings. Histopathology plays a crucial role in diagnosis, which intensely stains with glial fibrillary acidic protein and S-100.

The aim of this study was to explore the effects of low-frequency ultrasound (US) combined with microbubbles (MBs) on breast cancer xenografts and explain its underlying mechanisms. A total of 20 xenografted nude mice were randomly divided into four groups: a group treated with US plus MBs (the US + MBs group), a group treated with US alone (the US group), a group treated with MBs alone (the MBs group), and a control group. In different groups, mice were treated with different US and injection regimens on an alternate day, three times in total. Histological changes, apoptosis of cells, microvascular changes, and the apoptosis index (AI) and microvascular density (MVD) of the breast cancer xenograft were analyzed after the mice were sacrificed. Results indicated that the tumor volume in the US + MBs group was smaller than that in the other three groups (p < 0.001 for all). The rate of tumor growth inhibition in the US + MBs group was significantly higher than that in the US and MBs groups (p < 0.001 for both). There were no significant differences in histological changes among the four groups. However, the AI was higher in the US + MBs group than that in the other three groups while the MVD was lower (p < 0.001 for all). All in all, low-frequency US combined with MBs can effectively slow down the growth of breast cancer in nude mice. In summary, low-frequency US combined with MBs has a significant effect on breast cancer treatment. Cavitation, thermal effects, and mechanical effects all play a vital role in the inhibition of tumor growth.

INTRODUCTION: Pregnancy located outside the uterine cavity following a cesarean section has become more prevalent in recent years due to the increase in cesarean section delivery. This study sought to investigate the prevalence, determinants, and treatment options of scar site pregnancy among women who sought maternal and child health services in a hospital in Buraydah, Al-Qassim region, Saudi Arabia. METHODS: Utilizing a quantitative retrospective case-control design, 50 women were recruited and assigned to the two groups evenly. Demographic data and risk factors were assessed using a questionnaire, and data were analyzed using SPSS version 27 at a 95% confidence interval and presented in tables and figures. RESULTS: Fifty-eight percent of the participants were aged 35 years and above, with 38% reporting a parity of 1-3. Logistic regression revealed that parity (odds ratio (OR) = 10.975, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.887-135.861, and p-value = 0.062), the interval between the last and present pregnancies (OR = 0.056, 95% CI = 0.005-0.668, p-value = 0.023), intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) use in the last year (OR = 0.070, 95% CI = 0.006 -0.780, p-value = 0.031) were statistically significant in predicting cesarean scar pregnancy. Combined methotrexate and aspiration were the most prevalent treatment options for scar site pregnancy in this study. CONCLUSION: Scar site pregnancy is a maternal health complication that affects women across all healthcare settings, and its prevalence is not clear due to underdiagnosis and underreporting. The risk of scar site pregnancy increased with an increase in the number of childbirths (parity) and the interval between the last and current pregnancies.

RESUMEN

Endoscopic ultrasound-guided biliary drainage (EUS-BD) directs bile flow into the digestive tract and has been mostly used in patients with malignant biliary obstruction (MBO) where endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography-guided biliary drainage was unsuccessful or was not feasible. Lumen apposing metal stents (LAMS) are deployed during EUS-BD, with the newer electrocautery-enhanced LAMS reducing procedure time and complication rates due to the inbuilt cautery at the catheter tip. EUS-BD with electrocautery-enhanced LAMS has high technical and clinical success rates for palliation of MBO, with bleeding, cholangitis, and stent occlusion being the most common adverse events. Recent studies have even suggested comparable efficacy between EUS-BD and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography as the primary approach for distal MBO. In this editorial, we commented on the article by Peng et al published in the recent issue of the World Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery in 2024.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) are common in patients who undergo colorectal surgery. Studies have focused on how to accurately diagnose and reduce the incidence of PPCs. Lung ultrasound has been proven to be useful in preoperative monitoring and postoperative care after cardiopulmonary surgery. However, lung ultrasound has not been studied in abdominal surgeries and has not been used with wearable devices to evaluate the influence of postoperative ambulation on the incidence of PPCs. AIM: To investigate the relationship between lung ultrasound scores, PPCs, and postoperative physical activity levels in patients who underwent colorectal surgery. METHODS: In this prospective observational study conducted from November 1, 2019 to August 1, 2020, patients who underwent colorectal surgery underwent daily bedside ultrasonography from the day before surgery to postoperative day (POD) 5. Lung ultrasound scores and PPCs were recorded and analyzed to investigate their relationship. Pedometer bracelets measured the daily movement distance for 5 days post-surgery, and the correlation between postoperative activity levels and lung ultrasound scores was examined. RESULTS: Thirteen cases of PPCs was observed in the cohort of 101 patients. The mean (standard deviation) peak lung ultrasound score was 5.32 (2.52). Patients with a lung ultrasound score of ≥ 6 constituted the high-risk group. High-risk lung ultrasound scores were associated with an increased incidence of PPCs after colorectal surgery (logistic regression coefficient, 1.715; odds ratio, 5.556). Postoperative movement distance was negatively associated with the lung ultrasound scores [Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (r), -0.356, P < 0.05]. CONCLUSION: Lung ultrasound effectively evaluates pulmonary condition post-colorectal surgery. Early ambulation and respiratory exercises in the initial two PODs will reduce PPCs and optimize postoperative care in patients undergoing colorectal surgery.

BACKGROUND: Perianal fistulas pose dual challenges to Crohn's disease (CD) patients. Low patient compliance due to the complexity of existing examination methods plagues the treatment and follow-up management of perianal CD. AIM: To determine the accuracy of endoanal ultrasound (EUS) and shear wave elastography (SWE) for evaluating perianal fistulizing CD (PFCD) activity. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study. A total of 67 patients from August 2022 to December 2023 diagnosed with CD were divided into three groups: Non-anal fistula group (n = 23), low-activity perianal fistulas [n = 19, perianal disease activity index (PDAI) ≤ 4], high-activity perianal fistulas (n = 25, PDAI > 4) based on the PDAI. All patients underwent assessments including EUS + SWE, pelvic magnetic resonance [pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)], C-reactive protein, fecal calprotectin, CD activity index, PDAI. RESULTS: The percentage of fistulas indicated by pelvic MRI and EUS was consistent at 82%, and there was good consistency in the classification of perianal fistulas (Kappa = 0.752, P < 0.001). Significant differences were observed in the blood flow Limberg score (χ 2 = 8.903, P < 0.05) and shear wave velocity (t = 2.467, P < 0.05) between group 2 and 3. Shear wave velocity showed a strong negative correlation with magnetic resonance novel index for fistula imaging in CD (Magnifi-CD) score (r = -0.676, P < 0.001), a weak negative correlation with the PDAI score (r = -0.386, P < 0.05), and a weak correlation between the Limberg score and the PDAI score (r = 0.368, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: EUS combined with SWE offers a superior method for detecting and quantitating the activity of perianal fistulas in CD patients. It may be the ideal tool to assess PFCD activity objectively for management strategies.

RESUMEN

Perianal endometriosis represents a rare form of endometriosis occurring outside the pelvic cavity. Owing to its infrequency in clinical practice, this condition is highly susceptible to misdiagnosis and inappropriate treatment. This case report details a young female patient who was erroneously diagnosed with a perianal abscess. We conducted a para-anal mass resection under spinal anesthesia, and subsequent histopathological examination definitively confirmed the diagnosis of perianal endometriosis.
