RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Cerebral infarction treatments are most effective if used early after stroke symptoms occur. Also, early detection is crucial for delaying and improving cognitive impairment. This study investigated the relationship between the ratio of non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (Non-HDL-C/HDL-C), which reflects the entire burden of the cholesterol transported in atherogenic lipoproteins, and the level of ß-amyloid 1-42 (Aß-1-42), a major component of cerebrovascular amyloid deposits, in peripheral blood and cognitive dysfunction secondary to cerebral infarction. METHODS: A total of 83 patients with cerebral infarction admitted to Bozhou People's Hospital between June 2019 and June 2022 were assessed. The patients were divided into two groups based on their Mini-Mental State Scale (MMSE) scores: cognitive dysfunction group (n = 30) and non-cognitive dysfunction group (n = 53). In addition, a control group comprising 34 patients with transient cerebral insufficiency or cerebrovascular stenosis was selected. The groups were compared in terms of various clinical factors, including gender, age, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, lipid indexes, Non-HDL-C/HDL-C, and Aß1-42 levels. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the risk factors associated with cognitive dysfunction. RESULTS: The results showed that hypertensive patients with cognitive dysfunction secondary to cerebral infarction had a higher proportion of frontal lobe, temporal lobe, and thalamus involvement and lower scores on the MMSE compared to the non-cognitive impairment group and control group (p < 0.05). Additionally, the levels of homocysteine (HCY), Non-HDL-C/HDL-C, and Aß1-42 in peripheral blood were significantly higher in hypertensive patients with cognitive dysfunction compared to the other two groups (all p < 0.05) and were identified as risk factors for cognitive dysfunction secondary to cerebral infarction. Peripheral blood levels of Non-HDL-C/HDL-C and Aß1-42 are risk factors for secondary cognitive dysfunction following a cerebral infarction. CONCLUSION: These data have important clinical implications for understanding the mechanisms underlying cognitive dysfunction in individuals with cerebrovascular disorders, potentially leading to new early interventions for preventing or treating such diseases.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aims of this study were to evaluate the correlation between chemokine (C-X-C) ligand 7 (CXCL7) expression and glycolysis and to explore the prognostic significance of CXCL7 in colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS: The expression of CXCL7 and lactate dehydrogenase A (LDH-A) was measured by immunohistochemistry in tissue from 158 CRC patients. Patients were divided into high expression and low expression groups based on receiver operating characteristic curves and a cut-off value. The correlation between CXCL7 and LDH-A expression was evaluated. The overall survival (OS) times of CRC patients were explored. The risk factors related to prognosis were assessed. RESULTS: Significantly higher expression of CXCL7 and LDH-A was detected in CRC tissue than in non-CRC tissue, and was associated with N stage and tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage. CXCL7 expression was strongly correlated with LDH-A expression in CRC tissue. High expression of CXCL7 was validated as an independent risk factor for OS. CONCLUSION: Increased expression of CXCL7 was positively correlated with LDH-A expression and was an independent risk factor for CRC prognosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Interleukin-15 (IL-15) plays important roles in the immune system and in the development of hematopoietic cells. Previous studies revealed that five SNPs in IL-15, rs10519612, rs10519613, rs35964658, rs17007695 and rs17015014, were significantly associated with childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) treatment response. In adult ALL, the expression of IL-15 was also correlated with the immunophenotypes of ALL. Therefore, we hypothesize that SNPs of IL-15 might also be associated with adult ALL. METHODS AND FINDINGS: We genotyped the above five SNPs of IL-15 gene by PCR-RFLP assays in adult ALL case-control studies. The current study included 121 adult ALL patients and 263 healthy controls. IL-15 genotypes and haplotypes were determined and the associations with the risk of ALL were analyzed by logistic regression. SNPs rs10519612 and rs17007695 were significantly associated with ALL (P = 0.013 and P = 0.001). We observed a 2-fold and 2.4-fold excess risk of developing ALL for the rs10519612 CC and rs17007695 TC genotype carriers compared with non-carriers, respectively. Haplotype analysis revealed that haplotypes ACAC, CAGT and CCAT were significantly associated with adult B-ALL, while haplotype CCAT conferred susceptibility to T-ALL. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that IL-15 gene polymorphisms are significantly associated with ALL in adult Chinese population.
