Blomia tropicalis and Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus play an important role in triggering allergy. Glycycometus malaysiensis causes IgE reaction in sensitive people, but is rarely reported in domestic dust, because it is morphologically similar to B. tropicalis making the identification of these species difficult. The identification of mites is mostly based on morphology, a time-consuming and ambiguous approach. Herein, we describe a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (mPCR) assay based on ribosomal DNA capable to identify mixed cultures of B. tropicalis, D. pteronyssinus and G. malaysiensis, and/or to identify these species from environmental dust. For this, the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) regions, flanked by partial sequences of the 5.8S and 28S genes, were PCR-amplified, cloned and sequenced. The sequences obtained were aligned with co-specific sequences available in the GenBank database for primer design and phylogenetic studies. Three pairs of primers were chosen to compose the mPCR assay, which was used to verify the frequency of different mites in house dust samples (n = 20) from homes of Salvador, Brazil. Blomia tropicalis was the most frequent, found in 95% of the samples, followed by G. malaysiensis (70%) and D. pteronyssinus (60%). Besides reporting for the first time the occurrence of G. malaysiensis in Brazil, our results confirm the good resolution of the ITS2 region for mite identification. Furthermore, the mPCR assay proved to be a fast and reliable tool for identifying these mites in mixed cultures and could be applied in future epidemiological studies, and for quality control of mite extract production for general use.

Laelapidae and Rhodacaridae are important families of edaphic predatory mites and species of these families have been considered for use in biological control programs of soil pests. Mites of Cohort Astigmatina (Acari: Sarcoptiformes) have been largely used as factitious prey in the mass rearing of various edaphic or plant-inhabiting predatory mites. Stratiolaelaps scimitus (Womersley) (Mesostigmata: Laelapidae) (widely commercialized for the control of fungus gnats and thrips) and Protogamasellopsis zaheri Abo-Shnaf, Castilho and Moraes (Mesostigmata: Rhodacaridae) (not available commercially but promising for the control of thrips and nematodes) are known to be reared on Tyrophagus putrescentiae (Schrank) (Astigmatina: Acaridae), but the possibility to find a perhaps more efficient prey has not been evaluated. The objective of this paper was to evaluate different astigmatid species as prey for these predators. S. scimitus and P. zaheri oviposited on all evaluated astigmatids and the acarid mites T. putrescentiae and Aleuroglyphus ovatus (Tropeau) were the most suitable prey; to confirm the effect of prey on oviposition rates, pregnant females of the predators were kept under starvation conditions and oviposition was negligible or null. Survivorship was always higher than 78 % and was not influenced by prey species or starvation.

The mitochondrial redox state plays a central role in the link between mitochondrial overloading and insulin resistance. However, the mechanism by which the ROS induce insulin resistance in skeletal muscle cells is not completely understood. We examined the association between mitochondrial function and H2O2 production in insulin resistant cells. Our hypothesis is that the low mitochondrial oxygen consumption leads to elevated ROS production by a mechanism associated with reduced PGC1α transcription and low content of phosphorylated CREB. The cells were transfected with either the encoded sequence for catalase overexpression or the specific siRNA for catalase inhibition. After transfection, myotubes were incubated with palmitic acid (500µM) and the insulin response, as well as mitochondrial function and fatty acid metabolism, was determined. The low mitochondrial oxygen consumption led to elevated ROS production by a mechanism associated with ß-oxidation of fatty acids. Rotenone was observed to reduce the ratio of ROS production. The elevated H2O2 production markedly decreased the PGC1α transcription, an effect that was accompanied by a reduced phosphorylation of Akt and CREB. The catalase transfection prevented the reduction in the phosphorylated level of Akt and upregulated the levels of phosphorylated CREB. The mitochondrial function was elevated and H2O2 production reduced, thus increasing the insulin sensitivity. The catalase overexpression improved mitochondrial respiration protecting the cells from fatty acid-induced, insulin resistance. This effect indicates that control of hydrogen peroxide production regulates the mitochondrial respiration preventing the insulin resistance in skeletal muscle cells by a mechanism associated with CREB phosphorylation and ß-oxidation of fatty acids.

A new genus, Ingaseius nov. gen., and a new species, Ingaseius silvaticus nov. sp., Phytoseiidae, collected from Inga edulis Martius and Inga marginata Wild. (Fabaceae) are described from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. This species is unique in the following characteristics: females and males with few teeth on fixed cheliceral digit and short Jv5, without J2, Z1 and leg macrosetae. In addition, females lack Jv3 and Zv3, and have a reduced ventrianal shield.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of a nutritional strategy based on two components and adapted for the public health system on blood pressure, cardiometabolic features, self-care, qualify of life and diet quality in individuals with hypertension. METHODS: NUPRESS was an open-label, parallel-group, superiority randomized controlled clinical trial in which participants at least 21âyears with hypertension and poorly controlled blood pressure were randomly assigned (1â:â1 allocation ratio) to either an individualized dietary prescription according to nutritional guidelines (control group, n â=â205); or a two-component nutrition strategy, including a goal-directed nutritional counseling and mindfulness techniques (NUPRESS [intervention] group, n â=â205). Primary outcomes were SBP (mmHg) after 24 weeks of follow up and blood pressure control, defined as either having SBP more than 140âmmHg at baseline and achieving 140âmmHg or less after follow-up or having SBP 140âmmHg or less at baseline and reducing the frequency of antihypertensive drugs in use after follow-up. RESULTS: In total, 410 participants were randomized and submitted to an intention-to-treat analysis regarding primary outcomes. Both groups decreased blood pressure, but after adjusting for baseline values, there was no significant difference between them on SBP [intervention-control difference: -0.03 (-3.01; 2.94); P â=â0.98] nor blood pressure control [odds ratio 1.27 (0.82; 1.97); P â=â0.28]. No differences between groups were also detected regarding secondary and tertiary outcomes. CONCLUSION: There was no difference between a two-component nutritional strategy and an established dietary intervention on blood pressure in participants with hypertension.

This work describes the results of a study of the phytoseiid mites collected from plants in two natural ecosystems in the State of São Paulo, Brazil-Cerrado and Atlantic Forest. In this study, 40 phytoseiid species are reported. Measurements of different structures are given for species for which measurements for the respective São Paulo populations were not previously provided. This study also includes the description of two new genera, Breviseius g. n. and Serraseius g. n., and ten new species, Amblydromalus macroatrium n. sp., Amblyseius atlanticus n. sp., Breviseius sennae n. sp., Cocoseius paucisetis n. sp., Proprioseiospsis pariquerassuensis n. sp., Serraseius caicara n. sp., Typhlodromalus ingae n. sp., Typhlodromalus feresisimilis n. sp., Typhlodromips corniformis n. sp. and Typhlodromips robustisetus n. sp.

OBJECTIVE: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Cornell Assessment of Pediatric Delirium anchor points from English to Brazilian Portuguese. METHODS: For the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the anchor points, all steps recommended internationally were followed after authorization for use by the lead author. The stages were as follows: translation of the original version into Portuguese by two bilingual translators who were native speakers of the target language, synthesis of the versions, reverse translation by two translators who were native speakers of the source language, review and synthesis of the back-translation, review by a committee of experts and preparation of the final version. RESULTS: The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the anchor points was conducted in accordance with recommendations. The linguistic and semantic issues that arose were discussed by a committee of judges, with 91.8% agreement, as determined using a Likert scale, after changes by consensus. After reanalysis by the authors, there were no changes, resulting in the final version, which was easy to understand and administer. CONCLUSION: The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the anchor points of the Cornell Assessment of Pediatric Delirium scale into Portuguese spoken in Brazil were successful, maintaining the linguistic and semantic properties of the original instrument. The table of anchor points is easy to understand and will be helpful during the assessment of children younger than 24 months using the Cornell Assessment of Pediatric Delirium scale.

This quantitative, before-after study was developed to evaluate the usefulness of an online mindfulness practices program to help nursing professionals deal with stress in the challenging context of the COVID-19 pandemic through the assessment of perceived stress, anxiety and depression, levels of mindfulness, and participants' satisfaction with the program. Eligible participants were assessed at baseline to receive the online mindfulness training program for eight weeks and were appraised again at the end of the program. Standardized measures of perceived stress, depression, anxiety, and one-dimensional and multidimensional mindfulness were performed. Participant satisfaction was also studied. Adherence to treatment was 70.12%. The perceived stress, depression, and anxiety scores were significantly lower after the intervention. The mindfulness measure increased significantly, as well as the sense of well-being and satisfaction with life, study, and/or work. The participants showed high satisfaction with the program and would recommend it to other professionals. Our results indicate that mindfulness-based interventions represent an effective strategy for nurses in the face of the need for self-care with mental health and mechanisms that guarantee the sustainability of their capacities to continue exercising health care.

To investigate whether ovariectomy affects mitochondrial respiratory function, gene expression of the biogenesis markers and mitochondrial dynamics of the vastus lateralis muscle, female Wistar rats divided into ovariectomized (OVX) and intact (INT) groups were kept sedentary (SED) or submitted to resistance training (RT) performed for thirteen weeks on a vertical ladder in which animals climbed with a workload apparatus. RT sessions were performed with four climbs with 65, 85, 95, and 100 % of the rat's previous maximum workload. Mitochondrial Respiratory Function data were obtained by High-resolution respirometry. Gene expression of FIS1, MFN1 and PGC1-α was evaluated by real-time PCR. There was a decrease on oxidative phosphorylation capacity in OVX-SED compared to other groups. Trained groups presented increase on oxidative phosphorylation capacity when compared to sedentary groups. For respiratory control ratio (RCR), OVX-SED presented lower values when compared to INT-SED and to trained groups. Trained groups presented RCR values higher compared to INT-SED. Exercise increased the values of FIS1, MFN1 and PGC1-α expression compared to OVX-SED. Our results demonstrated that in the absence of ovarian hormones, there is a great decrease in oxidative phosphorylation and electron transfer system capacities of sedentary animals. RT was able to increase the expression of genes related to mitochondrial dynamics markers, reversing the condition determined by ovariectomy.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The gut microbiome is associated with obesity, mainly mediated by bacteria-produced short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). It is unknown how SCFA concentrations are associated with the phenotypes metabolically healthy normal weight (MHNW), metabolically unhealthy normal weight (MUNW), metabolically healthy obese/overweight (MHO), and metabolically unhealthy obese/overweight (MUO). We compared plasma and fecal SCFA concentrations among adult women categorized according to the metabolic phenotypes mentioned above and examined associations between SCFA and adiposity and components of energy and glucose homeostasis. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study involving 111 participants. Body composition was assessed by DEXA. Energy and glycemic homeostasis were assessed by the standard mixed-meal tolerance test coupled with indirect calorimetry. SCFAs were quantified by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. RESULTS: Only plasma propionate was increased in the MHNW phenotype compared to the MHO and MUO phenotypes [p < 0.05]. Fecal propionate and butyrate concentrations and plasma propionate concentrations were inversely associated with total and visceral adiposity [p < 0.05]. Fecal and plasma SCFA concentrations were associated with reduced glucose, insulin and HbA1c levels, increased fasting and postprandial GLP-1 levels; and more preserved beta-cell function [p < 0.05]. Fecal and plasma SCFA concentrations were positively correlated with resting energy expenditure and lipid oxidation rate and inversely correlated with the oxidation rate of carbohydrates [p < 0.05]. CONCLUSION: These findings reinforce the concept that fecal and plasma SCFA concentrations are linked to specific components of energy and glucose homeostasis; and body adiposity. However, it was not possible to discriminate the different metabolic phenotypes of adiposity based on the determination of fecal SCFA concentrations.

Objective: Intrauterine environment can induce fetal metabolic programming that predisposes to adiposity-related chronic diseases in its lifespan. We examined the associations of parental nutritional status and gestational weight gain with offspring body composition in early adulthood. Methods: This is cross-sectional analysis of female participants of the NutriHS who were submitted to questionnaires, clinical examinations and body composition assessed by DXA. Association of preconception parental BMI and maternal gestational weight gain (exposures) with body composition measurements (outcomes) were analyzed using multiple linear models adjusted for Directed Acyclic Graphs-based covariables (maternal and paternal educational level, maternal age, and tobacco, alcohol and/or drugs use). The sample included 124 women (median 28 (24-31) years) with a mean BMI of 25.4 ± 4.7 kg/m2. Results: No association between previous paternal BMI and offspring's body composition was detected. In the fully adjusted linear regression model, maternal BMI was associated with offspring's total lean mass (ß = 0.66, p = 0.001), appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI) (ß = 0.11, p = 0.003) and fat mass index (FMI) (ß = 0.03, p = 0.039). Gestational weight gain was associated with increased offspring's BMI (OR 1.12 [95% CI 1.02-1.20], p = 0.01). The linear regression model adjusted for maternal age and maternal and paternal education levels showed associations of gestational weight gain with offspring's ASMI (ß = 0.42, p = 0.046), FMI (ß = 0.22, p = 0.005) and android-to-gynoid fat ratio (ß = 0.09, p = 0.035). Conclusion: Our findings suggest that preconception maternal BMI could influence lean mass and general adiposity of young adult female offspring and that gestational weight gain could be useful for predicting centrally distributed adiposity.

Introduction: Early-life events are associated with the risk of obesity and comorbidities later in life. The gut microbiota-whose composition is influenced by genetics and environmental factors-could be involved. Since the microbiota affects metabolism and fat storage, early-life insults could contribute to the occurrence of obesity driven, in part, by microbiota composition. We examined associations of gut bacteria with early-life events, nutritional status, and body composition in the Nutritionist's Health Study (NutriHS). Methods: A cross-sectional study of 114 female participants examining early-life data, body composition, and biological samples was conducted. Fecal microbiota structure was determined targeting the V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene. Principal coordinates analysis (PCoA) and permutational multivariate analysis of variance (PERMANOVA) were used to test the impact of variables on microbial diversity. Profiles were identified using the Jensen-Shannon divergence matrix and Calinski-Harabasz index. Differential abundance between the categories of exclusive breastfeeding duration and nutritional status was tested using DESeq2. Results: In the sample [median age 28 years and body mass index (BMI) 24.5 kg/m2], 2 microbiota profiles driven by the Blautia or Prevotella genus were identified. An estimated 9.1% of the variation was explained by the profiles (p < 0.001), 2.1% by nutritional status (p = 0.004), and 1.8% by exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.012). The proportion of participants with BMI <25 kg/m2 and who were breastfed for at least 6 months was higher in the Blautia profile (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Findings in a Blautia-driven profile of healthy women reinforce that early-life events play a role in defining gut microbiota composition, confirming the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for infant gut colonization in establishing a protective profile against adiposity-related outcomes in adulthood.

Few data are available in the literature describing the long-term effects of envenoming in the perinatal period. In this study, the relationship between envenoming of lactating rats and possible behavioral changes in the mother and in her offspring were investigated. Lactating Wistar rats received a single dose of T. serrulatus crude venom on postnatal days 2 (V2), 10 (V10) or 16 (V16), and had their maternal behavior evaluated. The seizure threshold was evaluated in adulthood offspring. A decrease in maternal care during envenoming was observed in V2 and V10 groups. The retrieval behavior was absent in the V2 group, and a lower seizure threshold in the adult offspring of all groups was observed. During envenoming, mothers stayed away from their offspring for a relatively long time. Maternal deprivation during the early postnatal period is one of the most potent stressors for pups and could be responsible, at least in part, for the decrease in the convulsive threshold of the offspring since stress is pointed to as a risk factor for epileptogenesis. Furthermore, the scorpionic accident generates an intense immune response, and inflammation in neonates increases the susceptibility to seizures in adulthood. Therefore, maternal envenoming during lactation can have adverse effects on offspring in adulthood.

PURPOSE: Current therapies for the management of epilepsy are still suboptimal for several patients due to inefficacy, major adverse events, and unavailability. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), an emergent non-invasive neuromodulation technique, has been tested in epilepsy samples over the past two decades to reduce either seizure frequency or electroencephalogram (EEG) epileptiform discharges. METHODS: A systematic review was performed in accordance with PRISMA guidelines (PROSPERO record CRD42020160292). A thorough electronic search was completed in MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL and Scopus databases for trials that applied tDCS interventions to children and adults with epilepsy of any cause, from inception to April 30, 2020. RESULTS: Twenty-seven studies fulfilled eligibility criteria, including nine sham-controlled and 18 uncontrolled trials or case reports/series. Samples consisted mainly of drug-resistant focal epilepsy patients that received cathodal tDCS stimulation targeted at the site with maximal EEG abnormalities. At follow-up, 84 % (21/25) of the included studies reported a reduction in seizure frequency and in 43 % (6/14) a decline in EEG epileptiform discharge rate was observed. No serious adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS: Cathodal tDCS is both a safe and probably effective technique for seizure control in patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy. However, published trials are heterogeneous regarding samples and methodology. More and larger sham-controlled randomized trials are needed, preferably with mechanistic informed stimulation protocols, to further advance tDCS therapy in the management of epilepsy.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to examine whether paternal and maternal body mass indexes (BMIs) were independently associated with obestatin and visfatin levels in adult offspring. METHODS: This cross-sectional analysis included 124 women who participated in the Nutritionists' Health Study (NutriHS) at baseline. Early life events, anthropometry, dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry-determined body composition and blood sample were obtained. Associations of parental BMI with outcomes (obestatin and visfatin) were tested by multiple linear regression, using minimal sufficient adjustments recommended by Directed Acyclic Graph. Participants' mean BMI was 25 ± 5 kg/m2 and 74% were metabolically healthy. Median obestatin and visfatin levels were 56.4 pg/mL (42-72) and 17.7 ng/mL (14-21.8), respectively. Eleven percent of mothers and 39% of fathers were overweight/obese. RESULTS: Daughters born from overweight/obese mothers had higher BMI than those born from normal weight women (P = 0.003). In adjusted regression model, offspring obestatin levels were associated with maternal BMI (ß = -0.03; P = 0.045) and paternal BMI (ß = -0.02; P = 0.048) independently of maternal and paternal education, maternal age, and maternal use of tobacco, alcohol, and/or drugs. No association was detected with visfatin levels. CONCLUSION: Inverse associations of maternal and paternal BMIs with offspring obestatin concentrations in women could suggest a utility of this biomarker of energy regulation determined in early adulthood. Whether obestatin could be an indicator of protection against obesity-related disorders in the life course requires investigation in studies designed to test such hypothesis.

INTRODUCTION: 3D printing has wide application in medicine while it provides customizability and precision for anatomical model development. Our aims were to perform a systematic review and to explore the use of 3D printing applications on human reproduction and reproductive surgery. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: We have performed a systematic review in PubMed database to assess previous publications within 3D printing in human reproduction and gynecology. We have developed 3D models according to patients' magnetic resonance images (MRI). MRI were transformed into DICOM images that originated our 3D virtual models and PolyJet technology was applied for the printing process. We included two infertile patients in reproductive age with surgical indication for hysteroscopy septoplasty and myomectomy. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: Of 1965 studies searched, we excluded 1934 publications based on their titles. Abstracts of 31 remained studies were read, and 24 studies were selected for full-text analysis. We included 11 studies for the systematic review, based on our eligibility criteria. We have designed four 3D models (uterus, ovaries, uterine cervix and uterus with fibroids) that provided enriched information to improve pre-surgical planning, medical training, fertility-sparing surgery, patient comprehension of surgical procedures and assisted reproduction applications. CONCLUSIONS: 3D models for human reproduction are feasible. They might improve assisted reproductive techniques, help in pre-surgical planning for reproductive surgeries, and provide accurate measures of ovarian reserve. Besides, we see future applications in endometrioma research and in the fabrication of devices, such as embryo transfer catheter and a 3D printed embryo.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the present study was to determine the influence of the embryo placement depth on the endometrial cavity in relation to the reproductive outcomes, after frozen-thawed embryo transfer performed under transabdominal ultrasound guidance. METHODS: Retrospective cohort study that evaluated the influence of the embryo placement depth in the endometrial cavity in relation to the reproductive outcomes of patients submitted to cryotransfer cycles at a private assisted reproduction clinic, from 2012 to 2017. The patients were classified according to three variables: <10mm, 10 to 15mm and >15mm. The primary outcome was clinical pregnancy, and the secondary outcomes were miscarriage, ongoing pregnancy and live birth. The data was summarized as relative risk, with a 95%CI. RESULTS: Clinical and ongoing pregnancy rates were higher in the 10-15mm and >15mm Groups, when compared to the <10mm Group; there was no statistical difference between the groups in terms of miscarriage and live birth rates. We performed a subsequent analysis, using the same sample of patients, comparing only the <10mm and ≥10mm variables. The ≥10mm Group had better reproductive outcomes, with higher clinical and ongoing pregnancy rates. CONCLUSION: Pregnancy rates are influenced by embryo transfer site, and better results can be achieved when the tip of the catheter is placed in the central area of the endometrial cavity, especially when the distance from the endometrial fundus is >10mm.

OBJECTIVE: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Functional Status Scale for hospitalized children into Brazilian Portuguese. METHODS: A methodological study of the translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the Functional Status Scale was conducted, according to the stages of translation, synthesis of translations, back-translation, synthesis of back-translations, expert committee analysis and pre-test with a sample of the target population. During the evaluation by the committee of experts, semantic, content and item analyses were performed. RESULTS: The semantic, idiomatic, cultural and conceptual equivalences between the translated version and the original version were obtained, resulting in the Brazilian version of the Functional Status Scale. After the analysis by the expert committee, there were no problems regarding the cultural or conceptual equivalences because the items were pertinent to the Brazilian culture and few terms were modified. In the pre-test stage, the scale was applied by two evaluators to a sample of 25 children. Clarity and ease in answering the scale items were observed. Good inter-observer reliability was obtained, with an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.85 (0.59 - 0.95). CONCLUSIONS: The Functional Status Scale for pediatric use was translated and culturally adapted into Portuguese spoken in Brazil. The translated items were pertinent to the Brazilian culture and evaluated the dimensions proposed by the original instrument. Validation studies of this instrument are suggested to make it feasible for use in different regions of Brazil.
OBJETIVO: Realizar a tradução e a adaptação transcultural da Functional Status Scale em crianças hospitalizadas para o português do Brasil. MÉTODOS: Estudo metodológico de tradução e adaptação transcultural da Functional Status Scale, seguindo as etapas tradução, síntese das traduções, retradução, síntese das retraduções, análise por comitê de juízes e pré-teste com amostra da população-alvo. Durante a avaliação do comitê de juízes, foi realizada a análise semântica, de conteúdo e dos itens. RESULTADOS: Foram obtidas as equivalências semântica, idiomática, cultural e conceitual entre as versões traduzidas e a original, resultando na versão brasileira da Functional Status Scale. Após a análise do comitê de juízes, não se constataram problemas quanto às equivalências culturais e conceituais, pois os itens foram pertinentes à cultura brasileira, e poucos termos foram modificados. Na etapa de pré-teste, a escala foi aplicada por dois avaliadores em uma amostra de 25 crianças. Observaram-se clareza e facilidade em responder os itens da escala. Obteve-se boa confiabilidade entre os observadores, com coeficiente de correlação intraclasse de 0,85 (0,59 - 0,95). CONCLUSÕES: A Functional Status Scale para uso pediátrico foi traduzida e adaptada culturalmente para o português com uso no Brasil. Os itens traduzidos foram pertinentes à cultura brasileira e avaliaram a dimensão proposta pelo instrumento original. Sugerem-se estudos de validação deste instrumento, a fim de viabilizar sua utilização nas diversas regiões do Brasil.

Introdução: O período pandêmico provocou inúmeras alterações, sendo a alimentação um dos contextos afetados. Objetivo: Compreender os novos arranjos e significados das práticas alimentares vivenciados durante a primeira onda da pandemia pela Covid-19 por profissionais da educação superior. Métodos: Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa e de caráter exploratório. Foram entrevistados, individualmente e de forma remota, dez profissionais do setor da educação superior de duas universidades federais do interior de Minas Gerais. As entrevistas foram analisadas por meio da Análise Temática de Bardin em conjunto com a Análise de Similitude via IRAMUTEQ. Resultados: As entrevistas permitiram a identificação de três eixos temáticos: (1) "Manejos da comida e do corpo: prazer, culpa e medo do ganho de peso", explorando os embates que se intensificaram no que tange ao corpo e às escolhas alimentares; (2) "Re-arranjos sociais, comensalidade e práticas alimentares"; e (3) "O exercício do cozinhar no confinamento: polissemias, temporalidades e gênero", discorrendo sobre o dinamismo da alimentação ao vivenciar alterações na composição domiciliar, rotina e obrigações de trabalho. Discussão: Foi possível identificar relações entre o distanciamento social, o confinamento domiciliar e as práticas alimentares individuais e coletivas. Em razão dos diferentes rearranjos sociais, estruturados pelos participantes para lidar com as restrições impostas pela pandemia, comportamentos dicotômicos emergiram, refletindo conflitos frente aos ajustes nas práticas alimentares. A relação nutriente-alimento (nutricionismo) esteve muito presente nas narrativas, influenciando pensamentos e comportamentos sobre o corpo e o bem-estar. Conclusão: Conclui-se que o contexto pandêmico gerou alterações em relação aos arranjos, representações e significados do comer e da alimentação.
Introduction: The pandemic period brought about numerous changes, with food being one of the affected elements. Objective: To understand the new arrangements and meanings of eating practices experienced during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic by higher education professionals. Methods: This research is qualitative and exploratory. Ten professionals from the higher education sector of two federal universities in the interior of Minas Gerais were interviewed individually and remotely. The interviews were analyzed using Bardin's Thematic Analysis in conjunction with Similitude Analysis via IRAMUTEQ. Results: The interviews allowed for the identification of three thematic axes: (1) "Management of food and the body: pleasure, guilt and fear of weight gain", exploring the conflicts that intensified in regards to the body and food choices; (2) "Social rearrangements, commensality and eating practices"; and (3) "The practice of cooking in confinement: polysemy, temporality and gender", discussing the dynamism of food when experiencing changes in household composition, routine and work obligations. Discussion: It was possible to identify relationships between social distancing, home confinement and individual and collective eating practices. Due to the different social rearrangements, structured by the participants to deal with the pandemic-imposed restrictions, dichotomous behaviors emerged, reflecting conflicts in the face of adjusted eating practices. The nutrient-food relationship (nutritionism) was very present in the narratives, influencing thoughts and behaviors about the body and well-being. Conclusion: It is concluded that the pandemic context generated changes regarding the arrangements, representations and meanings of eating and food.

The objective of this study was to verify the impact of early childhood caries (ECC) and parental oral health literacy (OHL) on the use of oral health care services by preschool children. A population-based study was conducted with 449 dyads of preschool children aged 4-6 years and their parents/caregivers in the city of Ribeirão das Neves, Brazil. Two examiners performed the diagnosis of ECC using the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS- Epi). The Brazilian version of the Hong Kong Oral Health Literacy Assessment Task for Pediatric Dentistry was administered to measure parents' OHL. Parents/caregivers answered the question "When was your child's last visit to the dentist?" to measure the use of oral health care services by the preschool children. The multiple logistic regression (p<0.05) revealed that children with presence of cavitated caries lesions were 1.82-fold more likely to use oral health care services (OR=1.82; 95%CI: 1.23-2.70) compared to those with absence of cavitated caries lesions. Children whose parents/caregivers had lower OHL were 34 % less likely to use oral health care services compared to those whose parents had higher OHL (OR=0.66; 95%CI: 0.45-0.99). Preschool children Dental services are used more by preschool children with presence of cavitated caries lesions and whose parents/caregivers have higher scores of OHL.
El objetivo de este estudio fue verificar el impacto de la caries de la primera infancia (CPI) y la alfabetización en salud oral de los padres (ASB) en el uso de los servicios de salud oral por parte de los niños en edad preescolar. Se realizó un estudio de base poblacional con 449 díadas de preescolares de 4 a 6 años y sus padres/cuidadores en la ciudad de Ribeirão das Neves, Brasil. Dos examinadores realizaron el diagnóstico de CPI utilizando el Sistema Internacional de Evaluación y Detección de Caries (ICDAS-Epi). Se administró la versión brasileña de Hong Kong Oral Health Literacy Assessment Task for Pediatric Dentistry para medir la ASB de los padres. Los padres/cuidadores respondieron la pregunta "¿Cuándo fue la última visita de su hijo al dentista?" medir la utilización de los servicios de salud oral por parte de los preescolares. La regresión logística múltiple (p<0,05) reveló que los niños con presencia de lesiones de caries cavitadas tenían 1,82 veces más probabilidades de utilizar los servicios de salud oral (OR=1,82; IC95%: 1,23-2,70) en comparación con aquellos con ausencia de lesiones de caries cavitadas. Los niños cuyos padres/cuidadores tenían un ASB más bajo tenían un 34 % menos de probabilidades de utilizar los servicios de atención de la salud bucodental en comparación con aquellos cuyos padres tenían un ASB más alto (OR = 0,66; IC del 95%: 0,45-0,99). Los servicios dentales para niños en edad preescolar son utilizados con mayor frecuencia por niños preescolares con presencia de lesiones cariosas cavitadas y cuyos padres/cuidadores tienen puntuaciones más altas de ASB.
