This Letter presents a nonlocal study on the electric-field-tunable edge transport in h-BN-encapsulated dual-gated Bernal-stacked (ABA) trilayer graphene across various displacement fields (D) and temperatures (T). Our measurements revealed that the nonlocal resistance (R_{NL}) surpassed the expected classical Ohmic contribution by a factor of at least 2 orders of magnitude. Through scaling analysis, we found that the nonlocal resistance scales linearly with the local resistance (R_{L}) only when the D exceeds a critical value of ∼0.2 V/nm. Additionally, we observed that the scaling exponent remains constant at unity for temperatures below the bulk-band gap energy threshold (T<25 K). Further, the value of R_{NL} decreases in a linear fashion as the channel length (L) increases. These experimental findings provide evidence for edge-mediated charge transport in ABA trilayer graphene under the influence of a finite displacement field. Furthermore, our theoretical calculations support these results by demonstrating the emergence of dispersive edge modes within the bulk-band gap energy range when a sufficient displacement field is applied.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: With the aging of Indians and the cultural context of family care, faith-based ashrams are a possible middle way for older adult care for strained families. Religiosity is multidimensional, but it is unclear how its different dimensions relate to coping. This exploratory study investigates the profile of residents living in a faith-based ashram of Haridwar, a pilgrimage town in Northern India. Additionally, it examines religiosity and coping in this population, and the correlates of positive coping response (PCR). METHODOLOGY: Preliminary field survey helped zero in on a single consenting ashram. We included 95 older adult participants (≥ 60 years) residing for more than six months. Relevant dimensions were captured with a survey interview form to record sociodemographics, BriefCOPE, and Duke University Religion Index. The sample was representative of the institutionalized older-adult population considering the overlap of sociodemographics (age, gender, and marital status). We conducted linear regression to examine possible predictors of PCR. RESULTS: Most older adults were Hindus, higher educated, married, and lived with their spouses. The participants were highly religious. Coping through religion was most common, followed by active coping. On linear regression, a significant model emerged [F (13, 63) = 3.411, p < .001), where age, education, and organizational religious activity were significant predictors of PCR. However, other sociodemographic (sex, marital status, economics, family contact) and dimensions of religiosity (non-organizational religious activity and intrinsic religiosity) variables failed to predict PCR. CONCLUSION: Lesser age, higher education, and involvement in the public practice of religiosity are essential contributors to PCR in older adults. How different aspects of religiosity influence coping and lend meaning to dealing with stress, needs further exploration.

We have studied the thermal conductivity (κ) of layered MoS2, a typical member of the transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) materials, using fully atomistic molecular dynamics simulations and Boltzmann transport equation (BTE) based first principles methods. We investigate the tuning of the thermal conductivity with the twist angle between two layers and found a decreasing trend of κ with the increase in the lattice constant of the moiré superlattice. The thermal conductivity at twist angle θ = 21.78° is found to be 72.03 W m-1 K-1 and for an angle of 2.87°, it reaches 54.48 W m-1 K-1, leading to a 32% reduction in the thermal conductivity. We use first principles calculations based on the BTE for phonons to give a microscopic origin of the decrease in thermal conductivity through anharmonic phonon scattering events and also reaffirm the MD simulation results for the monolayer and bilayer.

Transport through edge channels is responsible for conduction in quantum Hall (QH) phases. Robust quantized values of charge and thermal conductances dictated by bulk topology appear when equilibration processes become dominant. We report on measurements of electrical and thermal conductances of integer and fractional QH phases, realized in hexagonal boron nitride encapsulated graphite-gated bilayer graphene devices for both electron and hole doped sides with different valley and orbital symmetries. Remarkably, for complex edges at filling factors ν=5/3 and 8/3, closely related to the paradigmatic hole-conjugate ν=2/3 phase, we find quantized thermal conductance whose values (3κ_{0}T and 4κ_{0}T, respectively where κ_{0}T is the thermal conductance quantum) are markedly inconsistent with the values dictated by topology (1κ_{0}T and 2κ_{0}T, respectively). The measured thermal conductance values remain insensitive to different symmetries, suggesting its universal nature. Our findings are supported by a theoretical analysis, which indicates that, whereas electrical equilibration at the edge is established over a finite length scale, the thermal equilibration length diverges for strong electrostatic interaction. Our results elucidate the subtle nature of crossover from coherent, mesoscopic to topology-dominated transport.

Thermoelectric measurements have the potential to uncover the density of states (DOSs) of low-dimensional materials. Here, we present the anomalous thermoelectric behavior of monolayer graphene-nanowire (NW) heterostructures, showing large oscillations as a function of the doping concentration. Our devices consist of InAs NW and graphene vertical heterostructures, which are electrically isolated by thin (∼10 nm) hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) layers. In contrast to conventional thermoelectric measurements, where a heater is placed on one side of a sample, we use the InAs NW (diameter ∼50 nm) as a local heater placed in the middle of the graphene channel. We measure the thermoelectric voltage induced in graphene due to Joule heating in the NW as a function of temperature (1.5-50 K) and carrier concentration. The thermoelectric voltage in bilayer graphene (BLG)-NW heterostructures shows sign change around the Dirac point, as predicted by Mott's formula. In contrast, the thermoelectric voltage measured across monolayer graphene (MLG)-NW heterostructures shows anomalous large-amplitude oscillations around the Dirac point, not seen in the Mott response derived from the electrical conductivity measured on the same device. The anomalous oscillations are a signature of the modified DOSs in MLG by the electrostatic potential of the NW, which is much weaker in the NW-BLG devices. Thermal calculations of the heterostructure stack show that the temperature gradient is dominant in the graphene region underneath the NW, and thus sensitive to the modified DOSs resulting in anomalous oscillations in the thermoelectric voltage. Furthermore, with the application of a magnetic field, we detect modifications in the DOSs due to the formation of Landau levels in both MLG and BLG.

BACKGROUND: Countrywide lockdown or stay-at-home order has been implemented to slow down the transmission of emergent coronavirus. However, the influence on attitudes and lifestyle due to lockdown amidst the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has been poorly understood. The present study aimed to investigate the influence on attitudes and lifestyle due to lockdown amidst the COVID-19 pandemic among Bangladeshi residents. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey carried out involving 1635 community dwellers across eight divisions in Bangladesh conducted from April 15, 2020 to May 10, 2020. A structured questionnaire incorporating socio-demographic, attitudes towards lockdown and adverse lifestyle amidst lockdown measures was employed to collect data using the Google Forms. Multiple regression analyses were executed to determine the associated factors of positive attitudes towards lockdown and adverse lifestyle. RESULTS: The mean scores of attitudes towards lockdown were 67.9 (SD = 8.4) out of 85 with an overall correct rate (positive attitudes) of 79.9%; whereas the mean scores of adverse lifestyle amidst lockdown were 16.1 (SD = 4.8) out of 34 with an overall rate of 47.4%. The factors associated with more positive attitudes towards lockdown included being female, divorced, higher educated, and students. Conversely, being male, having no formal education, and rural residence were associated factors of adverse lifestyle amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. CONCLUSIONS: The findings reflect how the COVID-19 lockdown has preciously impacted the attitudes, and lifestyle of Bangladeshi citizens, which will contribute to promoting appropriate measures during a subsequent zonal or complete lockdown.

Within the ambit of the National Mental Health Program, the Government of India has mandated long-acting risperidone, a patented molecule of Janssen Pharmaceutica. We contest that the healthcare system of India is ill-equipped (due to its weak infrastructure) to monitor side effects, regulate the use, and ensure informed consent. The process of including patented Risperdal Consta into the Indian formulary has lacked transparency and suggests undo favor towards Janssen. Janssen Pharmaceutica is known for its aggressive marketing strategy resulting in off-label use of oral risperidone in the US. Moreover, the lax regulatory structure for pharmaceutical dispensing in India coupled with Janssen's aggressive marketing is a potential cause of concern. We are critical of the decision to include a costly and patented molecule in a publicly financed health program otherwise sourced by generic drugs.

Correlated charge inhomogeneity breaks the electron-hole symmetry in two-dimensional (2D) bilayer heterostructures which is responsible for nonzero drag appearing at the charge neutrality point. Here we report Coulomb drag in novel drag systems consisting of a two-dimensional graphene and a one-dimensional (1D) InAs nanowire (NW) heterostructure exhibiting distinct results from 2D-2D heterostructures. For monolayer graphene (MLG)-NW heterostructures, we observe an unconventional drag resistance peak near the Dirac point due to the correlated interlayer charge puddles. The drag signal decreases monotonically with temperature (∼T^{-2}) and with the carrier density of NW (∼n_{N}^{-4}), but increases rapidly with magnetic field (∼B^{2}). These anomalous responses, together with the mismatched thermal conductivities of graphene and NWs, establish the energy drag as the responsible mechanism of Coulomb drag in MLG-NW devices. In contrast, for bilayer graphene (BLG)-NW devices the drag resistance reverses sign across the Dirac point and the magnitude of the drag signal decreases with the carrier density of the NW (∼n_{N}^{-1.5}), consistent with the momentum drag but remains almost constant with magnetic field and temperature. This deviation from the expected T^{2} arises due to the shift of the drag maximum on graphene carrier density. We also show that the Onsager reciprocity relation is observed for the BLG-NW devices but not for the MLG-NW devices. These Coulomb drag measurements in dimensionally mismatched (2D-1D) systems, hitherto not reported, will pave the future realization of correlated condensate states in novel systems.

Superconductivity and the quantum Hall effect are distinct states of matter occurring in apparently incompatible physical conditions. Recent theoretical developments suggest that the coupling of the quantum Hall effect with a superconductor can provide fertile ground for realizing exotic topological excitations such as non-Abelian Majorana fermions or Fibonacci particles. As a step toward that goal, we report observation of Andreev reflection at the junction of a quantum Hall edge state in a single layer graphene and a quasi-two-dimensional niobium diselenide (NbSe_{2}) superconductor. Our principal finding is the observation of an anomalous finite-temperature conductance peak located precisely at the Dirac point, providing a definitive evidence for inter-Landau-level Andreev reflection in a quantum Hall system. Our observations are well supported by detailed numerical simulations, which offer additional insight into the role of the edge states in Andreev physics. This study paves the way for investigating analogous Andreev reflection in a fractional quantum Hall system coupled to a superconductor to realize exotic quasiparticles.

ReS2, a layered two-dimensional material popular for its in-plane anisotropic properties, is emerging as one of the potential candidates for flexible electronics and ultrafast optical applications. It is an n-type semiconducting material having a layer independent bandgap of 1.55 eV. In this paper we have characterized the intrinsic electronic noise level of few-layer ReS2 for the first time. Few-layer ReS2 field effect transistor devices show a 1/f nature of noise for frequency ranging over three orders of magnitude. We have also observed that not only the electrical response of the material is anisotropic; the noise level is also dependent on direction. In fact the noise is found to be more sensitive towards the anisotropy. This fact has been explained by evoking the theory where the Hooge parameter is not a constant quantity, but has a distinct power law dependence on mobility along the two-axes direction. The anisotropy in 1/f noise measurement will pave the way to quantify the anisotropic nature of two-dimensional (2D) materials, which will be helpful for the design of low-noise transistors in future.

The emergence of multiple Dirac cones in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN)-graphene heterostructures is particularly attractive because it offers potentially better landscape for higher and versatile transport properties than the primary Dirac cone. However, the transport coefficients of the cloned Dirac cones is yet not fully characterized and many open questions, including the evolution of charge dynamics and impurity scattering responsible for them, have remained unexplored. Noise measurements, having the potential to address these questions, have not been performed to date in dual-gated hBN-graphene-hBN devices. Here, we present the low-frequency 1/f noise measurements at multiple Dirac cones in hBN encapsulated single and bilayer graphene in dual-gated geometry. Our results reveal that the low-frequency noise in graphene can be tuned by more than two-orders of magnitude by changing carrier concentration as well as by modifying the band structure in bilayer graphene. We find that the noise is surprisingly suppressed at the cloned Dirac cone compared to the primary Dirac cone in single layer graphene device, while it is strongly enhanced for the bilayer graphene with band gap opening. The results are explained with the calculation of dielectric function using tight-binding model. Our results also indicate that the 1/f noise indeed follows the Hooge's empirical formula in hBN-protected devices in dual-gated geometry. We also present for the first time the noise data in bipolar regime of a graphene device.

Two-dimensional materials and their heterostructures have emerged as a new class of materials, not only for fundamental physics but also for electronic and optoelectronic applications. Black phosphorus (BP) is a relatively new addition to this class of materials. Its strong in-plane anisotropy makes BP a unique material for making conceptually new types of electronic devices. However, the global density of states (DOS) of BP in device geometry has not been measured experimentally. Here, we report the quantum capacitance measurements together with the conductance measurements on an hBN-protected few-layer BP (∼six layers) in a dual-gated field effect transistor (FET) geometry. The measured DOS from our quantum capacitance is compared with density functional theory (DFT). Our results reveal that the transport gap for quantum capacitance is smaller than that in conductance measurements due to the presence of localized states near the band edge. The presence of localized states is confirmed by the variable range hopping seen in our temperature dependence conductivity. A large asymmetry is observed between the electron and hole side. This asymmetric nature is attributed to the anisotropic band dispersion of BP. Our measurements establish the uniqueness of quantum capacitance in probing the localized states near the band edge, hitherto not seen in conductance measurements.

We systematically reviewed empirical studies of psychotherapy with Indian clients. We defined psychotherapy as an intervention aimed at treating mental disorders using "talk," which, in a professional medical setting, along with the therapeutic relationship, acquires medicinal value. Besides manual searches in three leading Indian psychiatry journals, we conducted digital searches in PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus databases. We found that the commonly practiced evidence-based psychotherapy in India follows the cognitive-behavioral model. Our findings suggest several replication studies which claimed to have used the well-established western models of cognitive behavioural paradigm but have mostly focused on basic behavioural techniques in their protocol. A few innovations were observed, and several essential errors were noted. Innovations include contextual modifications to address the difficulties and challenges faced in service delivery, while errors include deviations from protocol without adequate rationale.

Introduction Pregnancy holds significant cultural and social value for women. However, women facing challenges in conceiving often grapple with emotional distress, including depression and anxiety. The connection between psychological elements (stress, anxiety, and depression) and infertility is complex, influenced by multiple factors, and bidirectional. Infertile women are more likely to develop mental illnesses, marital dissatisfaction, and impaired quality of life compared to the individuals of the fertile group. Thus, the study aimed to assess levels of anxiety, depression, and quality of life among infertile women compared to fertile women. Methods This case-control study conducted at a tertiary care center recruited 100 nulliparous women between the age group of 20 and 38 years with primary or secondary infertility, while those with male factor infertility were excluded. The control group (N=100) comprised normal parous women who had at least one child. The primary objective of the study was to assess the impact of infertility on the mental health and quality of life of women seeking infertility treatment. Outcome measures included standardized tools such as the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire to assess the quality of life across multiple domains (e.g., physical, psychological, social, and environmental) as well as the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) to measure levels of anxiety, depression, and stress. Cronbach's alpha was used to measure the tool's reliability. A P value of <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results Baseline sociodemographic parameters were comparable between the two groups. The mean age of infertile women was 30.6±3.9 years compared to 31.5±3.2 years in fertile women (P=0.076). Using the WHOQOL-BREF scale, we found that the quality of life was better in the fertile group compared to the infertile group through all the physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains (P<0.001). The infertile group had a significantly higher number of women with anxiety, depression, and stress. The questionnaires showed high internal reliability. Conclusion Infertile women experienced a lower quality of life in various domains, higher levels of anxiety, and increased rates of depression compared to fertile counterparts. The study findings underscore the multidimensional impact of infertility, emphasizing the need for comprehensive healthcare approaches to address the psychosocial challenges faced by women undergoing infertility treatment.

Collective spin-wave excitations, magnons, are promising quasi-particles for next-generation spintronics devices, including platforms for information transfer. In a quantum Hall ferromagnets, detection of these charge-neutral excitations relies on the conversion of magnons into electrical signals in the form of excess electrons and holes, but if the excess electron and holes are equal, detecting an electrical signal is challenging. In this work, we overcome this shortcoming by measuring the electrical noise generated by magnons. We use the symmetry-broken quantum Hall ferromagnet of the zeroth Landau level in graphene to launch magnons. Absorption of these magnons creates excess noise above the Zeeman energy and remains finite even when the average electrical signal is zero. Moreover, we formulate a theoretical model in which the noise is produced by equilibration between edge channels and propagating magnons. Our model also allows us to pinpoint the regime of ballistic magnon transport in our device.

OBJECTIVE: We examined the personality correlates of accident-proneness of auto-rickshaw drivers in the Indian city of Ranchi. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study in which 50 male drivers aged 18-50 years, selected randomly from a list of licensed auto-rickshaw drivers in Ranchi, were assessed with a Hindi version of Cattell's 16 Personality Factors (16-PF) Questionnaire. RESULTS: There was a significantly higher frequency of breaking rules, crossing speed limits, substance use and a trend towards a higher frequency of carrying extra persons (i.e., more than recommended) in accident-prone drivers. There was significant negative correlation of accident-proneness with 16-PF factors such as reasoning, rule consciousness, apprehension and emotional stability. CONCLUSION: Personality characteristics with lower scores of reasoning, rule consciousness, apprehension and emotional stability are common in commercial auto-rickshaw drivers with high accident-proneness.

Background: Diagnostic questionnaire that are available for restless legs syndrome does not include items related to RLS mimics and, hence, increases chances of false positive cases. This study aimed at modification and validation of RLS-diagnostic Questionnaire. Methods: During modification, additional items were identified, developed, and subjected to evaluation by experts. Experts were requested to validate the content of each item. Based on their responses, content validity indices (average and universal agreement) were calculated. It was then translated to Hindi and validated in a clinical population that included patients with RLS, somatic symptoms disorder, anxiety, other RLS mimics, and osteoarthritis. In addition, a group of healthy controls was also included. Face, concurrent, and discriminant validities were calculated. Results: Among 209 subjects, nearly 40 subjects had clinical diagnosis of RLS, osteoarthritis, somatic-symptoms-disorder, and anxiety disorder, each. In addition, 16 patients had other RLS mimics (akathisia, varicose veins, BFS, leg-cramps, chronic insomnia) and 30 were healthy controls. After multiple revisions, content validity indices achieved a score of 1 for m-RLS-DQ. Sensitivity and specificity of m-RLS-DQ v. 1.4 for the diagnosis of RLS were 94.9% and 94.1%, respectively. For the diagnosis of RLS, PPV was 78.7%, and NPV was 98.7% with an accuracy of 94.3%. Less than one fourth of participants having chronic insomnia, somatic symptoms disorder, anxiety disorder, and knee osteoarthritis were found to be false positive on m-RLS-DQ; however, none of the healthy controls were found positive on m-RLS-DQ. Concurrent validity with clinical diagnosis of RLS was 0.83 (P < 0.001). Discriminant validity with somatic symptoms disorder was -0.14 (P = 0.03) and with osteoarthritis -0.24 (P < 0.001). Conclusion: m-RLS-DQ is a valid instrument with acceptable psychometric properties, which can be used for the screening as well as diagnosis of RLS in clinical practice and research studies.

BACKGROUND: The therapeutic environment is commonly acknowledged as a significant influence on mental inpatient treatment experiences and outcomes. Therapeutic milieu interventions provide a distinct, secure hospital ward/unit atmosphere where patients with mental illness receive therapeutic interactions and collaborative attentiveness. The review aimed to explore the studies related to the role of a nurse using therapeutic milieu/milieu therapy in a psychiatric setting. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A systematic literature search was conducted between 1976 and 2021 using PsycINFO, Medline, Embase, and Scopus. A total of 13 papers were identified for a full review. RESULTS: A total of 70 studies were found, out of which 13 of them were analyzed. These studies looked at several therapeutic milieu concepts, such as therapeutic communication, patient satisfaction, nurse involvement, ward design and structure, and a mixture of therapeutic milieu concepts. Most of the studies explored the concepts of milieu therapy in community settings. CONCLUSION: In the mental health nursing literature, the milieu, as well as milieu therapy, is a well-debated subject. Though the importance of therapeutic milieu in psychiatric settings is recognized, empirical studies on milieu implementation are scarce. Therefore, research is needed to explore the effectiveness of milieu therapy in inpatient psychiatric care, which facilitates patient recovery, safety, and good interpersonal relationships.

Background: Suicidal ideation is higher in psychiatric patients, particularly in those with depressive disorders. It tends to be a precursor to suicide attempts. Aim: To estimate the frequency of suicide ideation and attempts and their sociodemographic and clinical correlations among the inpatients with depressive disorders at a tertiary care center in North India. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey was carried out among 128 participants diagnosed with depressive disorders who were admitted from September 2019 to April 2021 at a tertiary care hospital, India, using a total enumerative sampling technique. The sociodemographic and clinical data (particularly on suicide) were supplemented with the Modified Scale of Suicide Ideation (to evaluate suicidality) and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (for the severity of depression). Results: The median suicide ideation score was 11 inter quartile range (IQR: 19), and the overall mean depression score of the sample was 22.74 standard deviation (SD = 6.24). About 87% reported moderate to severe suicidal ideas. Occupation (farmer) (P < 0.01), current medications (tricyclic antidepressant) (P < 0.05), and history of suicide (P < 0.05) were significantly associated with the severity of depression. However, only a history of suicide was significantly associated with the current suicidal ideation (P < 0.05). About 48% had a history of suicide attempts, and among those who were more severely depressed, intoxicated during a suicide attempt (P < 0.01), taken precautions against being interrupted (P < 0.05), and had an intention to die (P < 0.05) had a significant association with their suicide attempts. Conclusion: Among hospitalized patients with depressive disorders, suicidal ideation is common. The study reiterates the importance of screening for suicide, particularly in those with more severe depression in the inpatient setting.
