RESUMO
Esta dissertação tem o objetivo de contribuir para a rediscussão da questão da ação coletiva no pensamento social brasileiro a partir da comparação de três ensaios de interpretação nacional, Populações meridionais do Brasil (1920), de Oliveira Vianna (1883-1951) e Evolução Política do Brasil (1933) e Formação do Brasil Contemporâneo (1942), ambos de Caio Prado Jr. (1907-1990). A abordagem proposta terá como foco analítico, sob uma perspectiva comparativa, a formulação da ação coletiva nesses ensaios cujo tema central é a formação social e política da sociedade brasileira. Entenderemos por ação coletiva a capacidade dos indivíduos associarem-se livremente entre si em busca de interesses comuns. Este recorte analítico permitirá identificar quais seriam os agentes portadores da mudança social e, por outro lado, quais as estruturas que impediriam ou limitariam as transformações da sociedade brasileira na sua constituição de uma nação moderna e participativa, bem como o próprio protagonismo político dos atores sociais. A partir deste exame perceberemos como se configuram de modo diverso nesses textos as relações entre Estado e sociedade e o lugar das idéias liberais /iluministas no processo de passagem do poder local ao Estado nacional.(AU)
This study aims to contribute to the renewed discussion of the issue of collective action in Brazilian social thought from the comparison of three essays of national interpretation, Southern Populations of Brazil (1920), of Oliveira Vianna (1883-1951) and Brazilian Politic Evolution (1933) and Formation of Contemporary Brazil (1942), both of Caio Prado Jr. (1907-1990). The proposed approach will have an analytical focus, in a comparative perspective, the formulation of collective action in these essays whose central theme is the social and political formation of the Brazilian society. We will understand collective action by the ability of individuals to associate freely with one another in pursuit of common interests. This analytical approach will help identify who would be the agents of social change and, secondly, what are the structures that prevent or limit the transformation of Brazilian society in its constitution of a modern and participative nation as well as its political role of social actors . And from this examination we will perceive how they are configured differently in these texts the relationship between State and society and the "place" of liberal ideas/ Enlightenment in the process of transition from local power to the national State.(AU)
