RESUMO

Cassava brown streak disease (CBSD), dubbed the "Ebola of plants", is a serious threat to food security in Africa caused by two viruses of the family Potyviridae: cassava brown streak virus (CBSV) and Ugandan (U)CBSV. Intriguingly, U/CBSV, along with another member of this family and one secoviridae, are the only known RNA viruses encoding a protein of the Maf/ham1-like family, a group of widespread pyrophosphatase of non-canonical nucleotides (ITPase) expressed by all living organisms. Despite the socio-economic impact of CDSD, the relevance and role of this atypical viral factor has not been yet established. Here, using an infectious cDNA clone and reverse genetics, we demonstrate that UCBSV requires the ITPase activity for infectivity in cassava, but not in the model plant Nicotiana benthamiana. HPLC-MS/MS experiments showed that, quite likely, this host-specific constraint is due to an unexpected high concentration of non-canonical nucleotides in cassava. Finally, protein analyses and experimental evolution of mutant viruses indicated that keeping a fraction of the yielded UCBSV ITPase covalently bound to the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP) optimizes viral fitness, and this seems to be a feature shared by the other members of the Potyviridae family expressing Maf/ham1-like proteins. All in all, our work (i) reveals that the over-accumulation of non-canonical nucleotides in the host might have a key role in antiviral defense, and (ii) provides the first example of an RdRP-ITPase partnership, reinforcing the idea that RNA viruses are incredibly versatile at adaptation to different host setups.

In angiosperms, wound-derived signals travel through the vasculature to systemically activate defence responses throughout the plant. In Arabidopsis thaliana, activity of vasculature-specific Clade 3 glutamate receptor-like (GLR) channels is required for the transmission of electrical signals and cytosolic Ca2+ ([Ca2+]cyt) waves from wounded leaves to distal tissues, triggering activation of oxylipin-dependent defences. Whether nonvascular plants mount systemic responses upon wounding remains unknown. To explore the evolution of systemic defence responses, we investigated electrical and calcium signalling in the nonvascular plant Marchantia polymorpha. We found that electrical signals and [Ca2+]cyt waves are generated in response to mechanical wounding and propagated to nondamaged distal tissues in M. polymorpha. Functional analysis of MpGLR, the only GLR encoded in the genome of M. polymorpha, indicates that its activity is necessary for the systemic transmission of wound-induced electrical signals and [Ca2+]cyt waves, similar to vascular plants. However, spread of these signals is neither coupled to systemic accumulation of oxylipins nor to a transcriptional defence response in the distal tissues of wounded M. polymorpha plants. Our results suggest that lack of vasculature prevents translocation of additional signalling factors that, together with electrical signals and [Ca2+]cyt waves, contribute to systemic activation of defences in tracheophytes.

Electrical transport in noncentrosymmetric materials departs from the well-established phenomenological Ohm's law. Instead of a linear relation between current and electric field, a nonlinear conductivity emerges along specific crystallographic directions. This nonlinear transport is fundamentally related to the lack of spatial inversion symmetry. However, the experimental implications of an inversion symmetry operation on the nonlinear conductivity remain to be explored. Here, we report on a large, nonlinear conductivity in chiral tellurium. By measuring samples with opposite handedness, we demonstrate that the nonlinear transport is odd under spatial inversion. Furthermore, by applying an electrostatic gate, we modulate the nonlinear output by a factor of 300, reaching the highest reported value excluding engineered heterostructures. Our results establish chiral tellurium as an ideal compound not just to study the fundamental interplay between crystal structure, symmetry operations and nonlinear transport; but also to develop wireless rectifiers and energy-harvesting chiral devices.

Hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites (HOIPs) are promising materials for optoelectronics applications. Their optical and electrical properties can be controlled by strain engineering, that results from application of local elastic deformation or deposition on pre-patterned substrates acquiring a conformal 3D shape. Most interesting, their mechanical properties depend on their crystal structure, composition and dimensionality. We explore by numerical simulations the deformation of a selection of HOIPs comprising a broad range of elastic properties. We consider an axial symmetry with the formation of microdomes on flakes. Radial and vertical forces are considered, finding that the radial force is more effective to obtain large deformation. Large vertical displacement and strain is obtained for HOIPs with low stiffness. The layered nature of HOIPs, that are formed by inorganic layers of different thickness and organic spacers, is also investigated, revealing a non-monotonous trend with the proportion of inorganic to organic part.

cis-2-tert-Butyl-5-(tert-butylsulfonyl)-1,3-dioxane (cis-1) exhibits a high degree of eclipsing in the H-C5-S-C segment in the solid state, the origin of which remains unexplained. The eclipsed conformation that corresponds to an energetic minimum in the solid state practically corresponds to a rotational transition state in solution, which allows an approach to understand transitions states. The difference in the enthalpy of sublimation ΔsubH between cis-1 and the more stable trans-1 is 8.40 kcal mol-1, lets to consider that the intermolecular interactions in the crystalline structure must be responsible for the conformational effect observed in the solid state. The study of the experimental electron density of cis-1 in solid state allowed to establish that CH⋯OS intermolecular interaction is the main contribution to the observed eclipsing. The charge density analysis was also performed using the quantum theory of atoms in molecules to evaluate the nature and relevance of the intermolecular interactions in the crystal structure.

BACKGROUND: In vitro embryo production is a highly demanded reproductive technology in horses, which requires the recovery (in vivo or post-mortem) and in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes. Oocytes subjected to IVM exhibit poor developmental competence compared to their in vivo counterparts, being this related to a suboptimal composition of commercial maturation media. The objective of this work was to study the effect of different concentrations of secretome obtained from equine preovulatory follicular fluid (FF) on cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) during IVM. COCs retrieved in vivo by ovum pick up (OPU) or post-mortem from a slaughterhouse (SLA) were subjected to IVM in the presence or absence of secretome (Control: 0 µg/ml, S20: 20 µg/ml or S40: 40 µg/ml). After IVM, the metabolome of the medium used for oocyte maturation prior (Pre-IVM) and after IVM (Post-IVM), COCs mRNA expression, and oocyte meiotic competence were analysed. RESULTS: IVM leads to lactic acid production and an acetic acid consumption in COCs obtained from OPU and SLA. However, glucose consumption after IVM was higher in COCs from OPU when S40 was added (Control Pre-IVM vs. S40 Post-IVM: 117.24 ± 7.72 vs. 82.69 ± 4.24; Mean µM ± SEM; p < 0.05), while this was not observed in COCs from SLA. Likewise, secretome enhanced uptake of threonine (Control Pre-IVM vs. S20 Post-IVM vs. S40 Post-IVM: 4.93 ± 0.33 vs. 3.04 ± 0.25 vs. 2.84 ± 0.27; Mean µM ± SEM; p < 0.05) in COCs recovered by OPU. Regarding the relative mRNA expression of candidate genes related to metabolism, Lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) expression was significantly downregulated when secretome was added during IVM at 20-40 µg/ml in OPU-derived COCs (Control vs. S20 vs. S40: 1.77 ± 0.14 vs. 1 ± 0.25 vs. 1.23 ± 0.14; fold change ± SEM; p < 0.05), but not in SLA COCs. CONCLUSIONS: The addition of secretome during in vitro maturation (IVM) affects the gene expression of LDHA, glucose metabolism, and amino acid turnover in equine cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs), with diverging outcomes observed between COCs retrieved using ovum pick up (OPU) and slaughterhouse-derived COCs (SLA).

Graphene is a light material for long-distance spin transport due to its low spin-orbit coupling, which at the same time is the main drawback for exhibiting a sizable spin Hall effect. Decoration by light atoms has been predicted to enhance the spin Hall angle in graphene while retaining a long spin diffusion length. Here, we combine a light metal oxide (oxidized Cu) with graphene to induce the spin Hall effect. Its efficiency, given by the product of the spin Hall angle and the spin diffusion length, can be tuned with the Fermi level position, exhibiting a maximum (1.8 ± 0.6 nm at 100 K) around the charge neutrality point. This all-light-element heterostructure shows a larger efficiency than conventional spin Hall materials. The gate-tunable spin Hall effect is observed up to room temperature. Our experimental demonstration provides an efficient spin-to-charge conversion system free from heavy metals and compatible with large-scale fabrication.

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: The outcomes of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in the esophagus have not been assessed in our country. Our primary aim was to analyze the effectiveness and safety of the technique. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Analysis of the prospectively maintained national registry of ESD. We included all superficial esophageal lesions removed by ESD in 17 hospitals (20 endoscopists) between January 2016 and December 2021. Subepithelial lesions were excluded. The primary outcome was curative resection. We conducted a survival analysis and used logistic regression analysis to assess predictors of non-curative resection. RESULTS: A total of 102 ESD were performed on 96 patients. The technical success rate was 100% and the percentage of en-bloc resection was 98%. The percentage of R0 and curative resection was 77.5% (n=79; 95%CI: 68%-84%) and 63.7% (n=65; 95%CI: 54%-72%), respectively. The most frequent histology was Barrett-related neoplasia (n=55 [53.9%]). The main reason for non-curative resection was deep submucosal invasion (n=25). The centers with a lower volume of ESD obtained worse results in terms of curative resection. The rate of perforation, delayed bleeding and post-procedural stenosis were 5%, 5% and 15.7%, respectively. No patient died or required surgery due to an adverse effect. After a median follow-up of 14months, 20patients (20.8%) underwent surgery and/or chemoradiotherapy, and 9 patients died (mortality 9.4%). CONCLUSIONS: In Spain, esophageal ESD is curative in approximately two out of three patients, with an acceptable risk of adverse events.

The analysis of complex and time-evolving interactions, such as those within social dynamics, represents a current challenge in the science of complex systems. Temporal networks stand as a suitable tool for schematizing such systems, encoding all the interactions appearing between pairs of individuals in discrete time. Over the years, network science has developed many measures to analyze and compare temporal networks. Some of them imply a decomposition of the network into small pieces of interactions; i.e., only involving a few nodes for a short time range. Along this line, a possible way to decompose a network is to assume an egocentric perspective; i.e., to consider for each node the time evolution of its neighborhood. This was proposed by Longa et al. by defining the "egocentric temporal neighborhood", which has proven to be a useful tool for characterizing temporal networks relative to social interactions. However, this definition neglects group interactions (quite common in social domains), as they are always decomposed into pairwise connections. A more general framework that also allows considering larger interactions is represented by higher-order networks. Here, we generalize the description of social interactions to hypergraphs. Consequently, we generalize their decomposition into "hyper egocentric temporal neighborhoods". This enables the analysis of social interactions, facilitating comparisons between different datasets or nodes within a dataset, while considering the intrinsic complexity presented by higher-order interactions. Even if we limit the order of interactions to the second order (triplets of nodes), our results reveal the importance of a higher-order representation.In fact, our analyses show that second-order structures are responsible for the majority of the variability at all scales: between datasets, amongst nodes, and over time.

Introduction Implant-based breast reconstructions (IBBRs) increased last years despite the growing indications for radiotherapy in the treatment of breast cancer. As a result, complications and reconstructive failures associated to IBBR have increased. Autologous breast reconstruction (ABR) using fat-augmented latissimus dorsi (FALD) has become popular in recent years. Methods We aimed to evaluate conversion to ABR using latissimus dorsi and immediate fat grafting in 61 cases with IBBR failure. Results Immediate reconstruction was found significatively related with an increased number of surgeries resulting from IBBR complications ( p < 0.001). Note that 41% of the cases presented a grade III/IV Baker and Palmer capsular contracture, 29% implant extrusion, and 21% implant infection. Mean survival of the first implant was 16.95 months. ABR process was completed in 47% of cases with a single surgery. Statistically significant differences were observed between this fact and previous IBBR failure due to infection ( p = 0.03) or extrusion ( p = 0.01). Mean volume of fat graft was 429.61 mL, mean length of the surgical procedure was 3.17 hours, and the average length of hospital stay after surgery was 2.67 days. Only 3.3% of the cases developed some major complication. None of the cases presented reconstructive failure. Conclusion FALD is a very safe total ABR technique, an important fact in patients with previous reconstructive failures. The large volume of fat that can be grafted in a single surgery allows the reconstruction of breast in a reasonable size. The reduced length of surgery and hospital stay make the FALD technique an option to consider when an autologous but efficient and safe reconstruction is desired.

Lipid imaging mass spectrometry (LIMS) has been tested in several pathological contexts, demonstrating its ability to segregate and isolate lipid signatures in complex tissues, thanks to the technique's spatial resolution. However, it cannot yet compete with the superior identification power of high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS), and therefore, very often, the latter is used to refine the assignment of the species detected by LIMS. Also, it is not clear if the differences in sensitivity and spatial resolution between the two techniques lead to a similar panel of biomarkers for a given disease. Here, we explore the capabilities of LIMS and HPLC-MS to produce a panel of lipid biomarkers to screen nephrectomy samples from 40 clear cell renal cell carcinoma patients. The same set of samples was explored by both techniques, and despite the important differences between them in terms of the number of detected and identified species (148 by LIMS and 344 by HPLC-MS in negative-ion mode) and the presence/absence of image capabilities, similar conclusions were reached: using the lipid fingerprint, it is possible to set up classifiers that correctly identify the samples as either healthy or tumor samples. The spatial resolution of LIMS enables extraction of additional information, such as the existence of necrotic areas or the existence of different tumor cell populations, but such information does not seem determinant for the correct classification of the samples, or it may be somehow compensated by the higher analytical power of HPLC-MS. Similar conclusions were reached with two very different techniques, validating their use for the discovery of lipid biomarkers.

Chiral materials are an ideal playground for exploring the relation between symmetry, relativistic effects and electronic transport. For instance, chiral organic molecules have been intensively studied to electrically generate spin-polarized currents in the last decade, but their poor electronic conductivity limits their potential for applications. Conversely, chiral inorganic materials such as tellurium have excellent electrical conductivity, but their potential for enabling the electrical control of spin polarization in devices remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate the all-electrical generation, manipulation and detection of spin polarization in chiral single-crystalline tellurium nanowires. By recording a large (up to 7%) and chirality-dependent unidirectional magnetoresistance, we show that the orientation of the electrically generated spin polarization is determined by the nanowire handedness and uniquely follows the current direction, while its magnitude can be manipulated by an electrostatic gate. Our results pave the way for the development of magnet-free chirality-based spintronic devices.

In brief: The mechanism by which p32 protein increases during capacitation in boar spermatozoa is unknown. This manuscript shows a new mechanism of induction of p32 in boar spermatozoa: the proteolysis of the phosphorylated and glycosylated form of SPACA1. Abstract: Protein tyrosine phosphorylation (PY) induction is associated with sperm capacitation. We previously showed that calcium-sensing receptor (CASR) inhibition by NPS2143 induces the 32 kDa tyrosine-phosphorylated protein (p32) in boar spermatozoa. We showed that NPS2143 induced an increase in p32 and loss of acrosomal integrity in live and dead spermatozoa in capacitating conditions (Tyrode's complete medium); the p32 rise occurred in dead spermatozoa, as shown by flow cytometry sorting. EGTA addition blunted the increase in p32, the loss of acrosomal integrity, and the increase in dead spermatozoa induced by NPS2143, indicating that the effects of NPS2143 are calcium-dependent. Mass spectrometry was used to identify which tyrosine-phosphorylated proteins were induced by NPS2143, but only serine/threonine-phosphorylated proteins were found; among these, SPACA1 was identified with different molecular weights (18, 32, and 35-45 kDa). We confirmed tyrosine phosphorylation of SPACA1 at 32 and 35-45 kDa by immunoprecipitation and co-localization of PY and SPACA1 in the presence of NPS2143 by immunofluorescence. The molecular weight of SPACA1 (35-45 kDa) decreased after treatment with peptide-N-glycosidase F, indicating that this protein is N-glycosylated. The soybean trypsin inhibitor (STI), a serine protease inhibitor, suppressed the appearance of p32 and SPACA1 (30 and 32 kDa) induced by NPS2143. Also, 8-Br-cAMP and A23187 treatments induced an increase in p32 and SPACA1 (30-32 kDa) and a parallel induction of the acrosome reaction. These findings suggest that CASR inhibition induces loss of acrosomal integrity and proteolysis of the glycosylated and phosphorylated SPACA1 (35-45 kDa) resulting in a SPACA1 rise at 32 kDa (p32).

The high cure rates of Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) make this oncological disease among those with the greatest number of long-term survivors. This single-institution study including 383 HL patients with up to 45 years of follow-up, analyses the morbidity and mortality of this population after treatments in comparison with the overall Spanish population, and investigates whether it has changed over time stratifying by periods of time, as a consequence of therapeutic optimization. The median age was 34.8 years (range 15-87) with median overall survival of 30 years, significantly higher in women (HR 0.58, 95% CI 0.42-0.79) (p = 0.0002). 185 late-stage diseases were noted (35% patients), cardiovascular disease (CVD) being the most frequent (23.2%). 30% of patients developed at least one second malignant neoplasm (SMN) to give a total of 174 SMNs. 20.9% of the patients died from HL and 67.0% died from non-HL causes (32.2% from SMN, 17% from CVD). The overall standardized mortality ratio (SMR) was 3.57 (95% CI: 3.0-4.2), with striking values of 7.73 (95% CI: 5.02-8.69) and of 14.75 (95% CI: 11.38-19.12) for women and patients <30 years at diagnosis, respectively. Excluding HL as the cause of death, the SMRs of those diagnosed before 2000 and from 2000 were proved to be similar (3.88 vs 2.73), maintaining in this last period an unacceptable excess of mortality due to secondary toxicity in patients cured of HL. Our study confirm that HL treatment substantially reduces the life expectancy of patients cured of HL. In recent periods, despite therapeutic optimization, deaths from toxicity continue to occur, mainly from CVD and SMN. Risk-factor monitoring should be intensified, prevention programs developed, and therapeutic optimization of LH investigated, especially in two vulnerable groups: those aged <30 years at diagnosis, and women.

Alternative polyadenylation in the 3' UTR (3' UTR-APA) is a mode of gene expression regulation, fundamental for mRNA stability, translation and localization. In the immune system, it was shown that upon T cell activation, there is an increase in the relative expression of mRNA isoforms with short 3' UTRs resulting from 3' UTR-APA. However, the functional significance of 3' UTR-APA remains largely unknown. Here, we studied the physiological function of 3' UTR-APA in the regulation of Myeloid Cell Leukemia 1 (MCL1), an anti-apoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family essential for T cell survival. We found that T cells produce two MCL1 mRNA isoforms (pA1 and pA2) by 3' UTR-APA. We show that upon T cell activation, there is an increase in both the shorter pA1 mRNA isoform and MCL1 protein levels. Moreover, the less efficiently translated pA2 isoform is downregulated by miR-17, which is also more expressed upon T cell activation. Therefore, by increasing the expression of the more efficiently translated pA1 mRNA isoform, which escapes regulation by miR-17, 3' UTR-APA fine tunes MCL1 protein levels, critical for activated T cells' survival. Furthermore, using CRISPR/Cas9-edited cells, we show that depletion of either pA1 or pA2 mRNA isoforms causes severe defects in mitochondria morphology, increases apoptosis and impacts cell proliferation. Collectively, our results show that MCL1 alternative polyadenylation has a key role in the regulation of MCL1 protein levels upon T cell activation and reveal an essential function for MCL1 3' UTR-APA in cell viability and mitochondria dynamics.

INTRODUCTION: While optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements of the lower tear meniscus height (LTMH) have been reported in adults, here we obtained LTMH measurements through Fourier Domain OCT in healthy children and compared these with values obtained in healthy adults. METHODS: Participants were children 7-17 years of age and a control group of adults 20-40 years of age. Inclusion criteria were no abnormal eye conditions or the use of contact lenses. Candidates who fulfilled the TFOS DEWS II criteria for dry eye disease (DED) were excluded. All subjects underwent LTMH measurement (OCT Spectralis) and tests for non-invasive tear break-up time and ocular surface staining. Participants also completed the ocular surface disease index questionnaire. RESULTS: A total of 86 children and 27 adults were included. Mean LTMH values in the children and adult groups were 217.40 ± 71.40 µm and 225.0 ± 54.86 µm, respectively; p = 0.53. However, 59.3% of the children had an LTMH ≤210 µm suggestive of DED, compared with only 33.3% of adults (p = 0.02). For the children, no significant differences in LTMH were observed with sex or for those more or less than 12 years of age. CONCLUSIONS: Optical coherence tomography-derived LTMH measurements were obtained in healthy children. While values were similar in children and adults, a greater proportion of children had an LTMH compatible with a diagnosis of DED. More studies in different paediatric populations are required to establish a complete set of normative LTMH measurements.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is an acute clinical manifestation ischaemic heart disease, which is the leading cause of death worldwide. Infections also have an important burden worldwide, with lower respiratory infections being the worldwide leading cause of death due to communicable diseases. The relationship of MI with viral respiratory infections (including influenza and SARS-CoV-2) as a trigger has been well documented with significant associations. These infections can lead to Type 1 MI, where inflammation and vascular dysfunction, as well as the increased prothrombotic environment lead to atherothrombosis. Type 2 MI may also occur due to an imbalance of oxygen/blood supply and myocardial demand (hypoxaemia, fever, and tachycardia). The data from randomized controlled trials showing a potential benefit of influenza vaccination in coronary artery disease patients should not be ignored. This can be considered a further argument for the association of viral infections (influenza in particular) and MI.

This study investigates the potential of utilizing three food wastes: cheese whey (CW), beet molasses (BM), and corn steep liquor (CSL) as alternative nutrient sources for the cultivation of the diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum, a promising source of polyunsaturated eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and the carotenoid fucoxanthin. The CW media tested did not significantly impact the growth rate of P. tricornutum; however, CW hydrolysate significantly enhances cell growth. BM in cultivation medium enhances biomass production and fucoxanthin yield. The optimization of the new food waste medium was conducted through the application of a response surface methodology (RSM) using hydrolyzed CW, BM, and CSL as factors. The results showed a significant positive impact of these factors (p < 0.005), with an optimized biomass yield of 2.35 g L-1 and a fucoxanthin yield of 3.64 mg L-1 using a medium composed of 33 mL L-1 of CW, 2.3 g L-1 of BM, and 2.24 g L-1 of CSL. The experimental results reported in this study showed that some food by-products from a biorefinery perspective could be utilized for the efficient production of fucoxanthin and other high-added-value products such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

Objectives: Explore how the content of the articles published by the Pan American Journal of Public Health during its 100 years of existence has aligned with the key health issues of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). Methods: A bibliometric analysis was carried out, with visualization of its results. Information on articles published in the Journal was retrieved from PAHO's Institutional Repository for Information Sharing (IRIS) for the first 75 years and Scopus for the last 25 years, until February 2022; References to Governing Bodies documents and statements by the directors were used to establish PAHO's key themes. Results: Initially, 12 573 publications were obtained and 9 289 were considered for analysis for the period 1922 to 1996, and 3 208 for the period 1997 to 2022. For the bibliometric analysis of the Scopus information, indicators such as the authors and their origin, language of publication, and number and origin of citations were considered. For the visualizations, publications were divided into five periods so that they coincided with the periods established for the analysis of PAHO's priority themes. Keyword co-occurrence maps were made to observe the evolution of published topics and relate them to public health approaches in each period. Conclusion: The topics published in the Pan American Journal of Public Health and its precursor bulletins reflect the history of regional public health and its evolution over time, as well as the key health issues of the Pan American Health Organization.

Métodos: Fez-se uma análise bibliométrica com visualização de seus resultados. Informações sobre os artigos publicados na revista foram recuperadas do Repositório Institucional para o Intercâmbio de Informações (IRIS, na sigla em inglês) da OPAS para os primeiros 75 anos, e da base de dados Scopus para os últimos 25 anos, até fevereiro de 2022. Para estabelecer os principais temas da OPAS, foram usadas referências a documentos dos órgãos diretores e declarações dos diretores. Resultados: Inicialmente, foram obtidas 12 573 publicações ­ 9 289 foram consideradas na análise para o período de 1922 a 1996, e 3 208 para o período de 1997 a 2022. Para a análise bibliométrica das informações da Scopus, foram levados em consideração indicadores como os autores e sua procedência, o idioma das publicações e o número e a procedência das citações. Para as visualizações, as publicações foram divididas em cinco períodos para que coincidissem com os períodos estabelecidos para a análise dos temas prioritários da OPAS. Mapeou-se a co-ocorrência de palavras-chave para observar a evolução dos temas das publicações e para relacioná-los com os enfoques de saúde pública em cada período. Conclusão: Os temas publicados na Revista Pan-Americana de Saúde Pública e nos boletins que a antecederam refletem o histórico da saúde pública regional e sua evolução ao longo do tempo, bem como os principais temas de saúde da Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde.

Strain is an effective strategy to modulate the optoelectronic properties of 2D materials, but it has been almost unexplored in layered hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites (HOIPs) due to their complex band structure and mechanical properties. Here, we investigate the temperature-dependent microphotoluminescence (PL) of 2D (C6H5CH2CH2NH3)2Cs3Pb4Br13 HOIP subject to biaxial strain induced by a SiO2 ring platform on which flakes are placed by viscoelastic stamping. At 80 K, we found that a strain of <1% can change the PL emission from a single peak (unstrained) to three well-resolved peaks. Supported by micro-Raman spectroscopy, we show that the thermomechanically generated strain modulates the bandgap due to changes in the octahedral tilting and lattice expansion. Mechanical simulations demonstrate the coexistence of tensile and compressive strain along the flake. The observed PL peaks add an interesting feature to the rich phenomenology of photoluminescence in 2D HOIPs, which can be exploited in tailored sensing and optoelectronic devices.
