The degradation of organic dye from waterbodies is of great significance for clean production and environmental remediation. Herein, two porphyrin-based conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) loaded with nanoscale zerovalent iron (named as Por-CMPs-1-2@nZVI) were successfully fabricated by Sonogashira-Hagihara coupling reactions and the liquid-phase method. The as-synthesized Por-CMPs-1-2@nZVI composites were characterized by various means of analysis, and it was confirmed that Por-CMPs-1-2 loaded with nZVI had good photocatalytic performance. Calculated by ultraviolet-visible spectrum, the band-gap energies of Por-CMPs-1@nZVI and Por-CMPs-2@nZVI were 1.45 and 1.32 eV, respectively, indicating that both can be activated by visible light. The photodegradation of organic dye experiments demonstrated that Por-CMPs-2@nZVI degraded 98.0% of 10 ppm Methylene Blue (MB) within 150 min, which is higher than that of Por-CMPs-1-2 and Por-CMPs-1@nZVI. The experiment of active substance capture and mechanism of ESR confirmed that superoxide anion and hydroxyl radical were the primary valid substances in the photodegradation process of MB. In addition, the preparation of membrane materials was shown to be a successful strategy to realize engineered scale-up production.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Glycyrrhiza glabra L. (GG) and Strychnos nux-vomica L. (NV) are traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). Changes in the chemical composition may occur before and after the GG-NV compatibility. Ultra-performance liquid chromatography Q-exactive Orbitrap mass spectrometry (UPLC-QE-Orbitrap-MS) was applied here to study the difference in the components of the GG and NV decoctions before and after they were combined. The changes in the chemical composition of GG and NV before and after the combination were determined. METHODS: The precise molecular weight, retention time, and fragment ion peak of the different components of the decoctions before and after compatibility were obtained through UPLC-QE-Orbitrap-MS. Differential analysis methods, such as principal component analysis, were used for comparison. RESULTS: In the positive ion mode, 200 new components were added, whereas six components were lost. In the negative ion mode, 144 new compounds were identified, whereas three components were missing. CONCLUSIONS: The compatibility difference between GG and NV was studied through UPLC-QE-Orbitrap-MS. The chemical composition of GG and NV changed before and after compatibility, and a class of compounds different from GG and NV was identified in the co-decoction. This study provides an experimental basis for subsequent research into detoxification mechanisms of the GG-NV combination and offers a new analytical method for investigating the compatibility of various other TCM pairs.

OBJECTIVES: The proportion of older people with dementia in China is gradually increasing with the increase in the aging population over recent years. Hypertension and diabetes are common non-communicable diseases among rural populations in China. However, it remains unclear whether these conditions affect the occurrence and development of cognitive impairment as there is limited research on cognitive status and its risk factors among residents of rural areas. METHODS: A multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling method was used to select 5400 participants from rural permanent residents. A self-designed structured questionnaire was used to investigate demographic data of the participants. Cognitive function was assessed using the Montreal Cognitive Function Assessment Scale (MoCA). The results were analyzed using chi-square test, ANOVA and multiple linear regression analysis. RESULTS: A total of 5028 participants returned the survey, giving a response rate of 93.1%. Higher education (odds ratio (OR) = 3.2, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.87-3.54, p < 0.001), higher income (OR = 1.61, 95% CI 1.16-2.07, p < 0.001), and dietary control (OR = 0.66, 95%CI 0.34-0.98, p < 0.001) were protective factors. A visual representation of the relationship between annual income and MoCA score showed an inverted U-curve, the group with an annual income of 6000-7999 RMB had a maximum OR of 1.93 (95%CI 0.12-2.74, p < 0.001). While difficulty in maintaining sleep were risk factors for cognitive impairment (OR = -2.28, 95% CI-4.18-0.39, p = 0.018). CONCLUSIONS: Participants with middle incomes had better cognitive status than those with the highest incomes. Higher education, proper diet control and good sleep are beneficial to the cognitive status of residents in rural areas.

Aluminum (Al) is a common neurotoxic element that can exacerbate intracellular ß-amyloid (Aß) deposition. Reelin is a highly conserved extracellular glycoprotein that is involved in intracellular Aß deposition. However, the action of Reelin on aluminum-induced Aß deposition is not fully understood. Here, we investigated the effects of the Reelin-Dab1 signaling pathway on Aß deposition in aluminum maltol (Al(mal)3) exposure in rat pheochromocytoma-derived cells (PC12). Our results showed that Al(mal)3 exposure decreased activity of PC12, increased expression of Aß42, and decreased expression of Aß40. Moreover, Al(mal)3 exposure in PC12 induced Reelin-Dab1 signaling pathway-associated proteins changed, decreased expression of Reelin and Dab1, and increased expression of pdab1. Moreover, the expression of Reelin, Dab1, and Aß40 was found to be elevated in PC12 exposed to Al(mal)3 and corticosterone compared to those exposed to Al(mal)3. Also, the expression of Reelin, Dab1, and Aß40 was found to be depressed in PC12 exposed to Al(mal)3 and streptozotocin compared with cells exposed to Al(mal)3 alone. These results suggested that Al(mal)3 inhibits the expression of the Reelin-Dab1 signaling pathway, promoting Aß deposition. Thus, our findings provided important evidence to better understand how the Reelin-Dab1 signaling pathway may be a potential mechanism of Aß deposition induced by aluminum.

To evaluate the detoxification effect of a combination of Radix Glycyrrhizae (GU) and Semen Strychni (SN) from toxicokinetics and drug tissue distribution perspectives, decoctions of processed SN and codecoction of SN and GU (SGN) were prepared, and an HPLC-ESI-MS/MS method was developed to monitor the severe exposure level in 1-month toxicokinetics and tissue distribution experiments to detect brucine and strychnine in rats. The toxicokinetic characteristics and tissue distribution before and after the addition of GU were analyzed. The method was successfully applied to evaluate the toxicokinetics and tissue distribution before and after the combination of SN and GU. The results show that GU decreased the blood concentration of toxic components in SN, and a double peak was observed in the drug time curve. The results of tissue distribution show that a combination of GU and SN significantly decreased the accumulation of toxic substances in metabolic organs and accelerated the clearance of toxic substances in the brain. These results provide a reference for the toxicity reduction mechanism of GU combined with SN.

The decoction turns into a complex multiphase system following exposure to high temperature and a complex chemical environment. However, the differences in the concentration of key active ingredients in different phase states and the release of drugs in sedimentary phase have yet to be elucidated. A simple ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method was developed and validated for the simultaneous quantitative determination of brucine, strychnine, liquiritin, isoliquiritin, isoliquiritigenin and glycyrrhizic acid concentrations and it was applied to compare the content of different phases and measure the release characteristics of the sedimentary phase in "Glycyrrhiza glabra-Nux vomica" decoction (NGD). The results show that the method's selectivity, precision (intraday and interday ≤ 2%), matrix effect (101-108%), recovery and stability results were acceptable according to the guidelines. The method is sensitive and reliable. The content determination results show that the most toxic strychnine in the sedimentary phase accounted for 75.70% of the total components. The different components exhibited differential release in different media, and its components were released in the artificial intestinal fluid up to 81.02% in 12 h. Several components conformed to the primary kinetic model and the Ritger-Peppas model, and the most toxic compound exhibited slow release, thus conforming to the Ritger-Peppas model. This study provides a standard of reference for studies investigating reduction in toxicity of the combination of Glycyrrhiza glabra (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.) and Nux vomica (Strychnos nux-vomica L.).

Aluminum (Al), a neurotoxic element, can induce Alzheimer's disease-like (AD-like) changes by triggering neuronal death. Iron homeostasis disturbance has also been implicated in Alzheimer's disease (AD), and excess iron exacerbates oxidative damage and cognitive defects. Ferroptosis is a nonapoptotic form of cell death dependent upon intracellular iron. However, the involvement of neuronal death induced by aluminum maltolate (Al(mal)3) in the pathogenesis of AD remains elusive. In this study, the results of three different behavioral experiments suggested that the learning and memory ability deteriorated and autonomous activity declined of these rats that exposed Al(mal)3 were alleviated by deferoxamine (DFO). Transmission electron microscope observations showed that the membrane was ruptured, and the membrane density increased and ridge disappearance (the most prominent characteristic of ferroptosis) in the perinuclear and cytoplasmic compartments of the hippocampal neurons were perceived in the exposure group, while the DFO group and 18 µM/kg Al(mal)3+DFO group were alleviated compared with 18 µM/kg Al(mal)3. In addition, DFO prevented oxidative stress, such as increased glutathione (GSH) and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS), while the latter two indexes had the same changing tendency as the total iron of brain tissue. These data indicated that Al(mal)3 could cause ferroptosis in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat neurons, which was inhibited by DFO via reducing the content of iron and increasing the ability of cells to resist oxidative damage.

The present study established the spectrum-effect relationship model of flavonoids in Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium(CRP) from 15 batches of Liujunzi Decoction and statistically analyzed the correlation between chemical peaks and efficacy to identify the main effective components. HPLC fingerprints of flavonoids in CRP from 15 batches of Liujunzi Decoction were established. HPLC analysis was carried out on the Venusil XBP C_(18)(L) column(4.6 mm×250 mm, 5 µm) at 30 ℃ with acetonitrile-water(containing 0.1% formic acid) as mobile phase for gradient elution, a flow rate of 1.0 mL·min~(-1), and detection wavelength of 300 nm to obtain chemical fingerprints. Additionally, the effects of flavonoids from CRP in 15 batches of Liujunzi Decoction on the content of GAS, MTL, and VIP, TFF3 mRNA expression, and percentage of CD3~+ T-cells of model rats with spleen deficiency were determined. The spectrum-effect relationship model was established by gray correlation analysis. The results showed that the main characteristic peaks with great contribution to the regulation of gastrointestinal tract were peak 16(vicenin-2), peak 63(sinensetin), peak 64(isosinensetin), peak 65(nobiletin), peak 67(3,5,6,7,8,3',4'-heptemthoxyflavone), peak 68(tangeretin), and peak 69(5-desmethylnobiletin). Therefore, there was a linear correlation between flavonoids from CRP in Liujunzi Decoction and the efficacy, and the medicinal effect was achieved by multi-component action. This study is expected to provide a new idea for exploring the material basis of the effect, i.e., regulating qi prior to replenishing qi, of CRP in Liujunzi Decoction.

A UPLC-MS/MS method was developed and validated the determination and pharmacokinetic study of magnoflorine, cauloside C, hederagenin, and oleanolic acid from Caulophyllum robustum. Digoxin was used as the internal standard. The pretreated plasma samples were carried out on a Waters ACQUITYUPLC HSS T3 column at 35 °C with a mobile phase of acetonitrile-water (90:10, v/v) at a flow rate of 0.2 mL/min. This article describes the most simple, sensitive, and validated UPLC-MS/MS method to date for the simultaneous successful determination of four compounds in rat plasma after oral administration of the extract of C. robustum and their pharmacokinetic studies.

This study aimed to develop hyaluronic acid (HA)-coated nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) loaded simultaneously with oleanolic acid (OA), ursolic acid (UA) and Ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3), prepared by electrostatic attraction for delivering OA, UA and Rg3 (OUR), termed HA-OUR-NLC, to tumors over expressing cluster determinant 44(CD44). The dialysis method was used to assess the in vitro release of OUR. Parameters such as pharmacokinetics, biodistribution, fluorescence in vivo endo-microscopy (FIVE), optical in vivo imaging (OIVI) data, and in vivo antitumor effects were evaluated. The results showed a total drug loading rate of 8.76±0.95% for the optimized HA-OUR-NLC; total encapsulation efficiency was 45.67±1.14%; particle size was 165.15±3.84%; polydispersity index was 0.227±0.01; zeta potential was -22.87±0.97 mV. Drug release followed the Higuchi kinetics. Pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution, as well as antitumor effects were evaluated in nude mice in vivo. HA-OUR-NLC were better tolerated, with increased antitumor activity compared with 5-Fu. In in vivo optical imaging, we use 1,1'-dioctadecyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethy(DiR) as a fluorescent dye to label the NLC. The DiR-OUR-NLC group showed bright systemic signals, while the tumor site was weak. The present findings indicated that HA-OUR-NLC accumulated in the tumor site, prolonging OUR duration in the circulation and enhancing tumoral concentrations. Therefore, NLC prepared by electrostatic attraction constitute a good system for delivering OUR to tumors.

Caulophyllum robustum Maxim (CRM) is a Chinese folk medicine with significant effect on treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This study was designed to explore the spectrum-effect relationships between high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) fingerprints and the anti-inflammatory effects of CRM. Seventeen common peaks were detected by fingerprint similarity evaluation software. Among them, 15 peaks were identified by Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). Pharmacodynamics experiments were conducted in collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice to obtain the anti-inflammatory effects of different batches of CRM with four pro-inflammation cytokines (TNF-α, IL-ß, IL-6, and IL-17) as indicators. These cytokines were suppressed at different levels according to the different batches of CRM treatment. The spectrum-effect relationships between chemical fingerprints and the pro-inflammation effects of CRM were established by multiple linear regression (MLR) and gray relational analysis (GRA). The spectrum-effect relationships revealed that the alkaloids (N-methylcytisine, magnoflorine), saponins (leiyemudanoside C, leiyemudanoside D, leiyemudanoside G, leiyemudanoside B, cauloside H, leonticin D, cauloside G, cauloside D, cauloside B, cauloside C, and cauloside A), sapogenins (oleanolic acid), ß-sitosterols, and unknown compounds (X3, X17) together showed anti-inflammatory efficacy. The results also showed that the correlation between saponins and inflammatory factors was significantly closer than that of alkaloids, and saponins linked with less sugar may have higher inhibition effect on pro-inflammatory cytokines in CIA mice. This work provided a general model of the combination of HPLC and anti-inflammatory effects to study the spectrum-effect relationships of CRM, which can be used to discover the active substance and to control the quality of this treatment.

RESUMO

DNA barcoding technique is a fast and accurate method for species identification. The DNA barcoding based on cytochrome c oxidase subunit Ⅰ (COⅠ) has recently been successfully applied for species identification of Culicidae. In this paper, we introduce the technique and principle of DNA barcoding, application and limitation of the technique based on CO I gene for species identification, as well as research development on applications of other molecular makers such as COⅡ,16S RNA, and the first and the second internal transcribed spacers (ITS1 and ITS2) in species identification and to assist the COⅠ gene in identifying Culicidae species.

Solar-driven interface evaporation is promising to alleviate the fresh water scarcity in an economical and sustainable way. However, most of currently reported photothermal conversion materials (PMs) are time-consuming costly, inefficient, or complex preparation process, which causes low utilization efficiency, and difficult to be practical for large-scale application. To solve this problem, a facile and green strategy for preparing hydrogel evaporator (SiO2-PILs/starch) by grafting poly(ionic liquid)s onto silica and doping it with starch is proposed. Benefiting from the broad solar absorption (ca.91 %), strong hydrophilic, and superb salt tolerance and stain resistance of SiO2-PILs/starch. Under 1 sun irradiation, the SiO2-PILs/starch achieves a remarkable solar evaporation efficiency of 91.72 % in pure water and 81.45 % in 20 wt% NaCl solution, respectively. In particular, SiO2-PILs/starch exhibited outstanding long-term salt stability (8 h) and crystalline salt can be self-cleaned in the dark environment. It is worth noting that the prepared hydrogel also possesses a satisfied evaporation efficiency of 75.84 % in oily wastewater (3 wt% n-hexadecane solution) due to its excellent water retention. These properties of SiO2-PILs/starch may provide desperately needed solution for efficient desalination and guaranteed high applicability and durability in practice.

Hyperlipidemia refers to the abnormal levels of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) in peripheral blood circulation. It is a predominant risk factor underlying cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis. Furthermore, it is also one of the most prevalent chronic diseases globally. Liujunzi Decoction is the basic prescription for the treatment of spleen and stomach diseases. It can tonify the spleen and qi, remove dampness, and reduce turbidity. Moreover, it is also clinically used for the treatment of spleen deficiency hyperlipidemia. However, its metabolites and therapeutic effect on spleen deficiency hyperlipidemia have not been comprehensively determined in vitro and in vivo. This study established a rat model of spleen deficiency hyperlipidemia by inducing starvation and satiety disorders, exhaustion swimming, and intragastric administration of the fat emulsion. To identify related metabolite changes and serum lipid composition, UPLC-Q-TOF-MS, PCA, and OPLS-DA lipidological methods were performed. The results demonstrated significant changes in rat's signs during the modeling process, which were consistent with the criteria for the syndrome differentiation of spleen deficiency in traditional Chinese medicine. Furthermore, this study identified 100 potential biomarkers in rat serum, of which 52 were associated with lipid synthesis, such as LPC, PC, PI, PE, PA, Cer, SM, etc. The pathways involved were glycerol phospholipid, sphingomyelin, and glycerol ester metabolisms. After the Liujunzi decoction intervention, 56 potential biomarkers were observed in the high-dose group, alleviating the metabolic spectrum imbalance by reducing metabolite levels. In addition, metabolic pathway disturbances were markedly improved. This study provides references for future studies on Liujunzi decoction and furnishes essential data for assessing the relationships between chemical constituents and pharmacological activities of Liujunzi decoction.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate effects of bone marrow sparing (BMS) radiotherapy on decreasing the incidence of acute hematologic toxicity (HT) for locoregionally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) patients treated by pelvic irradiation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: LACC patients were recruited prospectively from May 2021 to May 2022 at a single center and were evenly randomized into the BMS group and the control group. All patients received pelvic irradiation with concurrent cisplatin (40 mg/m2 weekly), followed by brachytherapy and BM V40 < 25% in the BMS group was additionally prescribed. Acute HT was assessed weekly. Binary logistic regression model and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were used for predictive value analysis. The trial was registered with Chinese clinical trial registry (ChiCTR2200066485). RESULTS: A total of 242 patients were included in the analysis. Baseline demographic, disease and treatment characteristics were balanced between the two groups. In the intention-to-treat population, BMS was associated with a lower incidence of grade ≥ 2 and grade ≥ 3 acute HT, leukopenia and neutropenia s(72.70% v 90.90%, P < 0.001*; 16.50% vs. 65.30%, P < 0.001*; 66.10% vs. 85.10%, P = 0.001*; 13.20% vs. 54.50%, P < 0.001*; 37.20% vs. 66.10%, P < 0.001*; 10.70% vs. 43.80%, P < 0.001*). BMS also resulted in decreased dose delivered to the organs at risk (OARs) including rectum, bladder and left and right femoral head. Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that BM V40 was an independent risk factor for grade ≥ 3 acute HT (odds ratio [OR] = 2.734, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.959-3.815, P < 0.001*). Cutoff value was 25.036% and area under the curve (AUC) was 0.786. The nomogram was constructed, which was rigorously evaluated and internally cross-validated, showing good predictive performance. CONCLUSIONS: Receiving BMS pelvic irradiation could reduce the incidence of acute HT in LACC patients, and BM V40 < 25% may be a significant factor in reducing the risks of acute HT.

BACKGROUND: Exercising at different times of the day is a widely employed strategy for treating essential hypertension, aimed at enhancing the circadian rhythm of blood pressure. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Liuzijue exercise in the morning and afternoon on the circadian rhythm of blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. METHODS: This clinical randomized trial recruited 36 patients. They were randomly divided into 3 groups: morning exercise, afternoon exercise, and waiting treatment group. Randomization was performed at a ratio of 1:1:1, ensuring an equal distribution of participants among the 3 groups. Based on maintaining routine work and rest and continuing the original drug treatment, the exercise performed Liuzijue exercise for 12 weeks. The exercise time was 9:00 to 10:00 in the morning exercise group and 14:00 to 15:00 in the afternoon exercise group. The waiting treatment group did not perform any form of fitness exercise. The subjects in the 3 groups were monitored by 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure on the day before and after the first day. RESULTS: After the 12-week Liuzijue exercise intervention, mean systolic blood pressure during the night significantly decreased in the morning exercise group (P < .01). In contrast, the waiting group experienced substantial increases in 24-hour mean systolic blood pressure (24hSBP), 24-hour mean diastolic blood pressure (24hDBP), mean systolic blood pressure during the daytime (dSBP), and mean diastolic blood pressure during the daytime (dDBP) (P < .01). Further analysis showed that the morning exercise group had significantly lower 24hSBP, 24hDBP, dSBP, dDBP, and mean systolic blood pressure during the night than the waiting group (P < .05). Additionally, the morning exercise group had lower 24hSBP and dSBP levels than the afternoon exercise group (P < .05). In contrast, the afternoon exercise group had lower 24hDBP and dDBP than the waiting treatment group (P < .05). CONCLUSIONS: The 12-week Liuzijue exercise in the morning regimen demonstrated superior efficacy in reducing 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure levels among patients with essential hypertension. Moreover, it facilitates the transition of non-dipper blood pressure patterns to dippers, thereby rectifying aberrant circadian rhythms.

PURPOSE: The abnormal polarisation of microglial cells (MGs) following retinal ischemia/reperfusion (RIR) initiates neuroinflammation and progressive death of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), causing increasingly severe and irreversible visual dysfunction. Roflumilast (Roflu) is a promising candidate for treating neuroinflammatory diseases. This study aimed to explore whether Roflu displayed a cytoprotective effect against RIR-induced neuroinflammation and to characterise the underlying signalling pathway. METHODS: The effects and mechanism of Roflu against RIR injury were investigated in C57BL/6J mice and the BV2 cell line. We used quantitative real-time PCR and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to examine the levels of inflammatory factors. Furthermore, haematoxylin and eosin and immunofluorescence (IF) stainings were used to assess the morphology of the retina and the states of MGs and RGCs. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were examined using a ROS assay kit, while whole-genome sequencing analysis was conducted to identify altered pathways and molecules. Western blotting and IF staining were used to quantify the proteins associated with the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/stimulator of interferon gene (STING)/nuclear factor kappa beta (NF-κB) pathway. RESULTS: MG polarisation includes the pro-inflammatory and neurotoxic M1 phenotype as well as the anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective M2 phenotype. Roflu significantly attenuated MG activation and contributed to a shift in the MG phenotype from M1 to M2. Moreover, Roflu decreased ROS release and increased heme oxygenase 1 and NAD(P)H quinone oxidoreductase 1 expression. In vitro and in vivo experiments validated that Roflu exerted its neuroprotective effects primarily by upregulating the Nrf2/STING/NF-κB pathway. However, these effects were abrogated when the Nrf2 expression was inhibited by pharmacological or genetic manipulation. CONCLUSIONS: Roflu suppressed RIR-induced neuroinflammation by driving the shift of MG polarisation from M1 to M2 phenotype, which was mediated by the upregulation of the Nrf2/STING/NK-κB pathway.

BACKGROUND: Aedes albopictus is an invasive vector of serious Aedes-borne diseases of global concern. Habitat management remains a critical factor for establishing a cost-effective systematic strategy for sustainable vector control. However, the community-based characteristics of Ae. albopictus habitats in complex urbanization ecosystems are still not well understood. METHODS: A large-scale investigation of aquatic habitats, involving 12 sites selected as representative of four land use categories at three urbanization levels, was performed in Guangzhou, China during 2015-2017. The characteristics and dynamics of these Ae. albopictus habitats were assessed using habitat-type composition, habitat preference, diversity indexes and the Route index (RI), and the temporal patterns of these indexes were evaluated by locally weighted scatterplot smoothing models. The associations of RI with urbanization levels, land use categories and climatic variables were inferred using generalized additive mixed models. RESULTS: A total of 1994 potential habitats and 474 Ae. albopictus-positive habitats were inspected. The majority of these habitats were container-type habitats, with Ae. albopictus showing a particularly higher habitat preference for plastic containers, metal containers and ceramic vessels. Unexpectedly, some non-container-type habitats, especially ornamental ponds and surface water, were found to have fairly high Ae. albopictus positivity rates. Regarding habitats, the land use category residential and rural in Jiangpu (Conghua District, Guangzhou) had the highest number of Ae. albopictus habitats with the highest positive rates. The type diversity of total habitats (H-total) showed a quick increase from February to April and peaked in April, while the H-total of positive habitats (H-positive) and RIs peaked in May. RIs mainly increased with the monthly average daily mean temperature and monthly cumulative rainfall. We also observed the accumulation of diapause eggs in the winter and diapause termination in the following March. CONCLUSIONS: Ecological heterogeneity of habitat preferences of Ae. albopictus was demonstrated in four land use categories at three urbanization levels. The results reveal diversified habitat-type compositions and significant seasonal variations, indicating an ongoing adaptation of Ae. albopictus to the urbanization ecosystem. H-positivity and RIs were inferred as affected by climatic variables and diapause behavior of Ae. albopictus, suggesting that an effective control of overwintering diapause eggs is crucial. Our findings lay a foundation for establishing a stratified systematic management strategy of Ae. albopictus habitats in cities that is expected to complement and improve community-based interventions and sustainable vector management.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: During the treatment of diseases, histone deacetylases (HDAC) may have side effects such as strong immune inhibition and drug resistance, which may lead to damage of heart, liver and kidney. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a valuable and unique resource in China, which has good efficacy and safety. At present, it has been found that Chinese herbal compounds and active ingredients can effectively inhibit the expression of HDAC. Moreover, pharmacological studies have shown that these TCMs have shown therapeutic effects in the treatment of cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, orthopedic diseases and skin diseases. AIM OF THE REVIEW: This article reviews the mechanism of action of HDAC, and introduces the epigenetic correlation between TCM and HDAC. We expounded the histone deacetylase inhibitor (HDACi)-like inhibitory effect and clinical application of natural drugs, and summarized the research progress of TCM on HDAC in recent years. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We collected relevant information published before March 2022 by searching the literature in various online databases such as PubMed, CNKI, Wanfang Database, Elsevier, Web of Science and China Biomedical Database. Search terms include "HDAC" or "HDACi", as well as "herb" or "herbal ingredient". RESULTS: A large number of studies have proved that many TCMs and their chemical components have the effect of inhibiting HDAC activity, which is highly selective, acts on different HDAC subtypes, and plays a certain therapeutic effect in cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, orthopedic diseases, skin diseases and other diseases by inhibiting the process of HDAC. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: The review of this paper is helpful to understand and excavate the active components of TCM, further explore the role of plant drugs with HDACi-like effect in diseases, and provide ideas for the development of new HDACi.

Carbohydrate polymers with unique chemical composition, molecular weight and functional chemical groups show multiple potentials in drug delivery. Most carbohydrate polymers such as plant polysaccharides exhibit advantages of biodegradability, ease of modification, low immunogenicity and low toxicity. They can be conjugated, cross-linked or functionally modified, and then used as nanocarrier materials. Polysaccharide drug delivery system can avoid the phagocytosis of the reticuloendothelial system, prevent the degradation of biomolecules, and increase the bioavailability of small molecules, thus exerting effective therapeutic effects. Therefore, they have been fully explored. In this paper, we reviewed the construction methods of drug delivery systems based on carbohydrate polymers (astragalus polysaccharide, angelica polysaccharide, lycium barbarum polysaccharide, ganoderma lucidum polysaccharide, bletilla polysaccharide, glycyrrhiza polysaccharide, and epimedium polysaccharides, etc). The application of polysaccharide drug delivery systems to deliver small molecule chemotherapeutic drugs, gene drugs, and metal ion drugs was also briefly introduced. At the same time, the role of the polysaccharide drug delivery system in tumor treatment, targeted therapy, and wound healing was discussed. In addition, the research of polysaccharide delivery systems based on the therapeutic efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine was also summarized and prospected.
