RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of neoplastic polyps in gallbladder polyps (GPs) increases sharply with age and is associated with gallbladder carcinoma (GBC). This study aims to predict neoplastic polyps and provide appropriate treatment strategies based on preoperative ultrasound features in patients with different age level. METHODS: According to the age classification of WHO, 1523 patients with GPs who underwent cholecystectomy from January 2015 to December 2019 at 11 tertiary hospitals in China were divided into young adults group (n=622), middle-aged group (n=665) and elderly group (n=236). Linear scoring models were established based on independent risk variables screened by the Logistic regression model in different age groups. The area under ROC (AUC) to evaluate the predictive ability of linear scoring models, long- and short- diameter of GPs. RESULTS: Independent risk factors for neoplastic polyps included the number of polyps, polyp size (long diameter), and fundus in the young adults and elderly groups, while the number of polyps, polyp size (long diameter), and polyp size (short diameter) in the middle-aged groups. In different age groups, the AUCs of its linear scoring model were higher than the AUCs of the long- and short- diameter of GPs for differentiating neoplastic and non-neoplastic polyps (all P<0.05), and Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness of fit test showed that the prediction accuracy of the linear scoring models was higher than the long- and short- diameter of GPs (all P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The linear scoring models of the young adults, middle-aged and elderly groups can effectively distinguish neoplastic polyps from non-neoplastic polyps based on preoperative ultrasound features.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A temporal network of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) symptoms could provide valuable understanding of the occurrence and maintenance of GAD. We aim to obtain an exploratory conceptualization of temporal GAD network and identify the central symptom. METHODS: A sample of participants (n = 115) with elevated GAD-7 scores (Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-Item Questionnaire [GAD-7] ≥ 10) participated in an online daily diary study in which they reported their GAD symptoms based on DSM-5 diagnostic criteria (eight symptoms in total) for 50 consecutive days. We used a multilevel VAR model to obtain the temporal network. RESULTS: In temporal network, a lot of lagged relationships exist among GAD symptoms and these lagged relationships are all positive. All symptoms have autocorrelations and there are also some interesting feedback loops in temporal network. Sleep disturbance has the highest Out-strength centrality. CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates how GAD symptoms interact with each other and strengthen themselves over time, and particularly highlights the relationships between sleep disturbance and other GAD symptoms. Sleep disturbance may play an important role in the dynamic development and maintenance process of GAD. The present study may develop the knowledge of the theoretical model, diagnosis, prevention and intervention of GAD from a temporal symptoms network perspective.

RESUMO

Introduction: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation is common in Chinese patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Brain metastases (BMs) is high and associated with poor prognosis. Identification of EGFR-mutant patients at high risk of developing BMs is important to reduce or delay the incidence of BMs. Currently, there is no literature on the prediction and modeling of EGFR brain metastasis at the proteinomics level. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of BMs in postoperative recurrent LUAD with EGFR mutation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. Tissue proteomic analysis was applied in the primary tumors of resected LUAD in this study using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). To identify potential markers for predicting LUAD BM, comparative analyses were performed on different groups to evaluate proteins associated with high risk of BMs. Results: A combination of three potential marker proteins was found to discriminate well between distal metastasis (DM) and local recurrence (LR) of postoperative LUAD with EGFR mutation. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis of significantly altered proteins between BM and non-BM (NBM) indicated that lipid metabolism and cell cycle-related pathways were involved in BMs of LUAD. And the enriched pathways correlated with BMs were found to be quite different in the comparison groups of postoperative adjuvant therapy, tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), and chemotherapy groups. Finally, we developed a random forest algorithm model with eight proteins (RRS1, CPT1A, DNM1, SRCAP, MLYCD, PCID2, IMPAD1 and FILIP1), which showed excellent predictive value (AUC: 0.9401) of BM in patients with LUAD harboring EGFR mutation. Conclusions: A predictive model based on protein markers was developed to accurately predict postoperative BM in operable LUAD harboring EGFR mutation.

RESUMO

The Chuantieling gel patch (CGP), a traditional Chinese medicine compound, is an external treatment for asthma. It has shown remarkable effectiveness in alleviating asthma-related airway hyperresponsiveness and inflammation. Nevertheless, there is currently no information available regarding the analysis of quality markers for CGP, and there is a need for further improvement in quality control research. In this study, we developed an HPLC fingerprinting method for CGP and conducted a comprehensive methodological investigation. We assessed the similarity among 10 batches of CGP, identified common peaks, and quantified the content of seven major quality markers. Furthermore, we built a network pharmacology-based 'active ingredients-targets-pathways-diseases' network to forecast the potential mechanisms of action for the primary active components in asthma treatment. Our findings demonstrated that the developed CGP fingerprinting and content determination methods were consistent and trustworthy. We verified the existence of 25 shared peaks and successfully identified 7 chromatographic peaks, including sinigrin thiocyanate, ephedrine hydrochloride, methyleugenol, imperatorin, cinnamaldehyde, emodin, and 6-gingerol, using reference standards. The network pharmacology analysis suggested that these seven active components may target proteins such as STAT3 (signal transducer and activator of transcription 3), MAPK3 (mitogen-activated protein kinase 3), and TP53 (tumor protein P53) and influence various diseases through pathways including cancer pathways, hepatitis B, and PI3K-Akt (phosphoinositide 3-kinase-protein kinase B) signaling. This study provides insight into the complex multicomponent composition of CGP, and the predictive analysis through network pharmacology sets the stage for uncovering the mechanisms responsible for the therapeutic effects of CGP.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: It is important to identify gallbladder polyps (GPs) with malignant potential and avoid unnecessary cholecystectomy by constructing prediction model. The aim of the study is to develop a Bayesian network (BN) prediction model for GPs with malignant potential in a long diameter of 8-15 mm based on preoperative ultrasound. METHODS: The independent risk factors for GPs with malignant potential were screened by χ2 test and Logistic regression model. Prediction model was established and validated using data from 1296 patients with GPs who underwent cholecystectomy from January 2015 to December 2019 at 11 tertiary hospitals in China. A BN model was established based on the independent risk variables. RESULTS: Independent risk factors for GPs with malignant potential included age, number of polyps, polyp size (long diameter), polyp size (short diameter), and fundus. The BN prediction model identified relationships between polyp size (long diameter) and three other variables [polyp size (short diameter), fundus and number of polyps]. Each variable was assigned scores under different status and the probabilities of GPs with malignant potential were classified as [0-0.2), [0.2-0.5), [0.5-0.8) and [0.8-1] according to the total points of [- 337, - 234], [- 197, - 145], [- 123, - 108], and [- 62,500], respectively. The AUC was 77.38% and 75.13%, and the model accuracy was 75.58% and 80.47% for the BN model in the training set and testing set, respectively. CONCLUSION: A BN prediction model was accurate and practical for predicting GPs with malignant potential patients in a long diameter of 8-15 mm undergoing cholecystectomy based on preoperative ultrasound.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Polyp size of 10 mm is insufficient to discriminate neoplastic and non-neoplastic risk in patients with gallbladder polyps (GPs). The aim of the study is to develop a Bayesian network (BN) prediction model to identify neoplastic polyps and create more precise criteria for surgical indications in patients with GPs lager than 10 mm based on preoperative ultrasound features. METHODS: A BN prediction model was established and validated based on the independent risk variables using data from 759 patients with GPs who underwent cholecystectomy from January 2015 to August 2022 at 11 tertiary hospitals in China. The area under receiver operating characteristic curves (AUCs) were used to evaluate the predictive ability of the BN model and current guidelines, and Delong test was used to compare the AUCs. RESULTS: The mean values of polyp cross-sectional area (CSA), long, and short diameter of neoplastic polyps were higher than those of non-neoplastic polyps (P < 0.0001). Independent neoplastic risk factors for GPs included single polyp, polyp CSA ≥ 85 mm 2, fundus with broad base, and medium echogenicity. The accuracy of the BN model established based on the above independent variables was 81.88% and 82.35% in the training and testing sets, respectively. Delong test also showed that the AUCs of the BN model was better than that of JSHBPS, ESGAR, US-reported, and CCBS in training and testing sets, respectively (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: A Bayesian network model was accurate and practical for predicting neoplastic risk in patients with gallbladder polyps larger than 10 mm based on preoperative ultrasound features.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have investigated the relationships between psychache or meaning in life and suicidal ideation based on sum score of corresponding scale. However, this practice has hampered the fine-grained understanding of their relationships. This network analysis study aimed to conduct a dimension-level analysis of these constructs and the relationships among them in a joint framework, and identify potential intervention targets to address suicidal ideation. METHODS: Suicidal ideation, psychache, and meaning in life were measured using self-rating scales among 738 adults. A network of suicidal ideation, psychache, and meaning in life was constructed to investigate the connections between dimensions and calculate the expected influence and bridge expected influence of each node. RESULTS: "Psychache" was positively linked to "sleep" and "despair", while "presence of meaning in life" had negative associations with "psychache", "despair", and "pessimism". The most important central nodes were "sleep" and "despair", and the critical bridge nodes were "presence of meaning in life" and "psychache". CONCLUSION: These preliminary findings uncover the pathological pathways underlying the relationships between psychache, meaning in life, and suicidal ideation. The central nodes and bridge nodes identified may be potential targets for effectively preventing and intervening against the development and maintenance of suicidal ideation.

RESUMO

Artificial insemination (AI) with liquid-stored semen is the most prevalent and efficient assisted reproduction technique in the modern pork industry. Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex component X (PDHX) was demonstrated to be associated with sperm metabolism and affected the boar sperm viability, motility, and fertility. Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Kinases (PDKs) are the key metabolic enzymes that regulate pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDHC) activity and also the conversion from glycolysis to oxidative phosphorylation. In the present study, two PDK inhibitors, Dichloroacetate (DCA) and Phenylbutyrate (4-PBA), were added to an extender and investigated to determine their regulatory roles in liquid-stored boar sperm at 17 °C. The results indicated that PDK1 and PDK3 were predominantly located at the head and flagella of the boar sperm. The addition of 2 mM DCA and 0.5 mM 4-PBA significantly enhanced the sperm motility, plasma membrane integrity (PMI), mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), and ATP content. In addition, DCA and 4-PBA exerted their effects by inhibiting PDK1 and PDK3, respectively. In conclusion, DCA and 4-PBA were found to regulate the boar sperm metabolic activities via PDK1 and PDK3. These both can improve the quality parameters of liquid-stored boar sperm, which will help to improve and optimize liquid-stored boar semen after their addition in the extender.

RESUMO

Heparin, a class of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), is widely used to induce sperm capacitation and fertilization. How heparin induces sperm capacitation remains unclear. Olfactory receptors (ORs) which are G protein-coupled receptors, have been proposed to be involved in sperm capacitation. However, the interaction between ORs and odor molecules and the molecular mechanism of ORs mediating sperm capacitation are still unclear. The present study aimed to explore the underlying interaction and mechanism between heparin and ORs in carrying out the boar sperm capacitation. The results showed that olfactory receptor 2C1 (OR2C1) is a compulsory unit which regulates the sperm capacitation by recognizing and binding with heparin, as determined by Dual-Glo Luciferase Assay and molecular docking. In addition, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation indicated that OR2C1 binds with heparin via a hydrophobic cavity comprises of Arg3, Ala6, Thr7, Asn171, Arg172, Arg173, and Pro287. Furthermore, we demonstrated that knocking down OR2C1 significantly inhibits sperm capacitation. In conclusion, we highlighted a novel olfactory receptor, OR2C1, in boar sperm and disclosed the potential binding of heparin to Pro287, a conserved residue in the transmembrane helices region 7 (TMH7). Our findings will benefit the further understanding of ORs involved in sperm capacitation and fertilization.

RESUMO

(1) Background: Ginsenoside Rb1-PLGA nanoparticles (GRb1@PLGA@NPs) represent a novel nanotherapeutic system, yet their therapeutic efficacy and underlying mechanisms for treating heart failure (HF) remain unexplored. This study aims to investigate the potential mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effects of GRb1@PLGA@NPs in HF treatment; (2) Methods: The left anterior descending coronary artery ligation was employed to establish a HF model in Sprague-Dawley rats, along with an in vitro oxidative stress model using H9c2 myocardial cells. Following treatment with GRb1@PLGA@NPs, cardiac tissue pathological changes and cell proliferation were observed. Additionally, the serum levels of biomarkers such as NT-proBNP, TNF-α, and IL-1ß were measured, along with the expression of the ROS/PPARα/PGC1α pathway; (3) Results: GRb1@PLGA@NPs effectively ameliorated the pathological status of cardiac tissues in HF rats, mitigated oxidative stress-induced myocardial cell damage, elevated SOD and MMP levels, and reduced LDH, MDA, ROS, NT-proBNP, TNF-α, and IL-1ß levels. Furthermore, the expression of PPARα and PGC1α proteins was upregulated; (4) Conclusions: GRb1@PLGA@NPs may attenuate myocardial cell injury and treat HF through the ROS/PPARα/PGC1α pathway.

RESUMO

In this work, we discuss two types of trilocality of probability tensors (PTs) P=〚P(a1a2a3)〛 over an outcome set Ω3 and correlation tensors (CTs) P=〚P(a1a2a3|x1x2x3)〛 over an outcome-input set Δ3 based on a triangle network and described by continuous (integral) and discrete (sum) trilocal hidden variable models (C-triLHVMs and D-triLHVMs). We say that a PT (or CT) P is C-trilocal (resp. D-trilocal) if it can be described by a C-triLHVM (resp. D-triLHVM). It is proved that a PT (resp. CT) is D-trilocal if and only if it can be realized in a triangle network by three shared separable states and a local POVM (resp. a set of local POVMs) performed at each node; a CT is C-trilocal (resp. D-trilocal) if and only if it can be written as a convex combination of the product deterministic CTs with a C-trilocal (resp. D-trilocal) PT as a coefficient tensor. Some properties of the sets consisting of C-trilocal and D-trilocal PTs (resp. C-trilocal and D-trilocal CTs) are proved, including their path-connectedness and partial star-convexity.

RESUMO

This study investigated the effects of Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction on myocardial metabolites in a rat model of coronary heart disease with heart blood stasis syndrome and explored the therapeutic mechanism of blood circulation-promoting and blood stasis-removing therapy. SD rats were randomly divided into a sham operation group, a model group, a Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction group(14.04 g·kg~(-1)), and a trimetazidine group(5.4 mg·kg~(-1)). The sham operation group underwent thread insertion without ligation, while the other groups underwent coronary artery left anterior descending branch ligation to induce a model of coronary heart disease with heart blood stasis syndrome. Three days after modeling, drug intervention was performed, and samples were taken after 14 days of intervention. General conditions were observed, and electrocardiogram and cardiac ultrasound indices were measured. Hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining and Masson staining were used to observe tissue pathological morphology. The enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was used to measure the levels of triglyceride(TG) and total cholesterol(TC) in the serum. Ultra high performance liquid chromatography-quantitative exactive-mass spectrometry(UHPLC-QE-MS) technology was used to screen differential metabolites in myocardial tissue and conduct metabolic pathway enrichment analysis. The results showed that Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction significantly improved the general condition of the model rats, reduced heart rate and ST segment elevation in the electrocardiogram, increased left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) and left ventricular fractional shortening(LVFS), and decreased left ventricular internal diameter in diastole(LVIDd) and left ventricular internal diameter in systole(LVIDs). HE staining and Masson staining showed that Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction effectively alleviated myocardial tissue structural disorders, inflammatory cell infiltration, and collagen fiber deposition in the model rats. ELISA results showed that Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction effectively regulated serum TG and TC levels in the model rats. There were significant differences in the metabolic phenotypes of myocardial samples in each group. Fourteen differential metabolites were identified in the Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction group, involving five metabolic pathways, including arginine and proline metabolism, glycerophospholipid metabolism, aminoacyl-tRNA biosynthesis, ether lipid metabolism, and alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism. Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction improved cardiac function and myocardial structural damage in the rat model of coronary heart disease with heart blood stasis syndrome, and its biological mechanism involved the regulation of lipid metabolism, choline metabolism, amino acid metabolism, energy metabolism, and protein synthesis pathways.

RESUMO

Quantum coherence is known as an important resource in many quantum information tasks, which is a basis-dependent property of quantum states. In this paper, we discuss quantum incoherence based simultaneously on k bases using Matrix Theory Method. First, by defining a correlation function m(e,f) of two orthonormal bases e and f, we investigate the relationships between sets I(e) and I(f) of incoherent states with respect to e and f. We prove that I(e)=I(f) if and only if the rank-one projective measurements generated by e and f are identical. We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the intersection I(e)⋂I(f) to include a state except the maximally mixed state. Especially, if two bases e and f are mutually unbiased, then the intersection has only the maximally mixed state. Secondly, we introduce the concepts of strong incoherence and weak coherence of a quantum state with respect to a set B of k bases and propose a measure for the weak coherence. In the two-qubit system, we prove that there exists a maximally coherent state with respect to B when k=2 and it is not the case for k=3.

RESUMO

Investigations in the area of tumor-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) open a new horizon in developing cancer biology and its potential as cancer biomarkers. Following this prospect, we aimed to identify that the role of successfully isolated EVs from drug-resistance cells in the progression of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). P-EVs and R-EVs secreted by A549 cells and drug-resistant A549-R cells respectively were extracted and characterized. The targeting relationship between miR-425 and MED1 was verified. Cell proliferation, invasion, migration and apoptosis after treatment of P-EVs, R-EVs, miR-425 inhibitor, miR-425 mimic, pcDNA-MED1, or phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT inhibitor LY294002 were detected. Furthermore, xenograft tumor in nude mice was established for further confirming our in vitro findings. P-EVs and R-EVs were successfully extracted and could be internalized by A549 cells. A549-R cells and R-EVs showed higher miR-425 expression compared with A549 cells and P-EVs, respectively. miR-425 delivered by R-EVs could promote the proliferation, migration, and invasion, while inhibit apoptosis of NSCLC cells. MED1 was the target gene of miR-425. EVs-encapsulated miR-425-derived from A549-R cells could promote the progression of NSCLC in vivo through regulating DAPK1-medicated PI3K/AKT pathway. Moreover, miR-425 delivered by R-EVs promoted tumorigenesis in vivo. Taken together, the result suggested that EVs-delivered miR-425-derived from A549-R cells promoted the progression of NSCLC through regulating DAPK1-medicated PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

RESUMO

Effectively promoting corneal allograft survival remains a challenge in corneal transplantation. The emerging therapeutic agents with high pharmacological activities and their appropriate administration routes provide attractive solutions. In the present study, a celastrol-loaded positive nanomedicine (CPNM) was developed to enhance corneal penetration and to promote corneal allograft survival. The in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo results demonstrated the good performance of CPNM prolonging the retention time on ocular surface and opening the tight junction in cornea, which resulted in enhanced corneal permeability of celastrol. Both in vitro and in vivo results demonstrated that celastrol inhibited the recruitment of M1 macrophage and the expression of TLR4 in corneal allografts through the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB pathway, thereby significantly decreasing secretion of multiple pro-inflammatory cytokines to promote corneal allograft survival. This is the first celastrol-based topical instillation against corneal allograft rejection to provide treatment more potent than conventional eye drops for ocular anterior segment diseases.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of community depression rehabilitation skill on depressive symptoms and social function of patients with different diagnoses. METHODS: A total of 74 patients(20 males, 54 females)with depression in Beijing primary care center were divided into rehabilitation group(49 cases, average 51.80 years) and control group(25 cases, average 54.42 years) from August to November 2019.A total of 70 patients in two groups completed the final follow-up study. Patients in the rehabilitation group received depression community rehabilitation skill training for 8 weeks, while patients in the control group received daily community services. The two groups were assessed by the scale at baseline and 8 weeks later. The scales are as follow: basic information form and Hamilton depression scale(HAMD-17) and social disability screening schedule(SDSS), nurses global assessment of suicide risk(NGASR), morisky medication aderence scale(MMAS-8). For counting data χ~2inspection; The t-test for measurement data. RESULTS: Before the intervention, There was no significant difference in HAMD-17, NGASR, MMAS-8 and SDSS total score and each factor score of SDSS between the two groups(P>0.05). Paired t-test showed that after intervention, HAMD-17 total score, NGASR total score, and SDSS factors of social withdrawal, social activities outside the family, activities within the family, family functions, self-care of personal life, relationship and interest to the outside world, sense of responsibility and planning(P<0.05) in rehabilitation group were all significantly lower than before intervention. CONCLUSION: The rehabilitation skills of depression can improve the depressive symptoms and social function of different kinds of patients, and is suitable for promotion in the community.

RESUMO

Quantum coherence is an important physical resource in quantum information science, and also as one of the most fundamental and striking features in quantum physics. To quantify coherence, two proper measures were introduced in the literature, the one is the relative entropy of coherence C r ( ρ ) = S ( ρ diag ) - S ( ρ ) and the other is the ℓ 1 -norm of coherence C ℓ 1 ( ρ ) = ∑ i ≠ j | ρ i j | . In this paper, we obtain a symmetry-like relation of relative entropy measure C r ( ρ A 1 A 2 ⋯ A n ) of coherence for an n-partite quantum states ρ A 1 A 2 ⋯ A n , which gives lower and upper bounds for C r ( ρ ) . As application of our inequalities, we conclude that when each reduced states ρ A i is pure, ρ A 1 ⋯ A n is incoherent if and only if the reduced states ρ A i and tr A i ρ A 1 ⋯ A n ( i = 1 , 2 , … , n ) are all incoherent. Meanwhile, we discuss the conjecture that C r ( ρ ) ≤ C ℓ 1 ( ρ ) for any state ρ , which was proved to be valid for any mixed qubit state and any pure state, and open for a general state. We observe that every mixture η of a state ρ satisfying the conjecture with any incoherent state σ also satisfies the conjecture. We also observe that when the von Neumann entropy is defined by the natural logarithm ln instead of log 2 , the reduced relative entropy measure of coherence C ¯ r ( ρ ) = - ρ diag ln ρ diag + ρ ln ρ satisfies the inequality C ¯ r ( ρ ) ≤ C ℓ 1 ( ρ ) for any state ρ .

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Health literacy is defined as the cognitive and social skills that determine the motivation and ability of individuals to gain access to, understand and use information in ways that promote and maintain good health. A Health Literacy Questionnaire (HLQ) is a toolkit with good reliability and validity. Accordingly, this study administered HLQ among older adults in China to examine its factor structure, reliability, homogeneity, and discriminant validity for use in understanding better the health literacy of older adults and determining corresponding measures. METHODS: Psychometric properties were examined based on the data collected via face-to-face interviews (N = 343). Tests included the difficulty level, composite scale reliability, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and Bayesian structural equation modeling (BSEM). RESULTS: The easiest scale to obtain a high score was "Social support for health" and the hardest, "Navigating the health care system" and "Appraisal of health information." Two one-factor models fitted well with no correlated residuals allowed. After model modification, the CFA fit statistics of the other seven scales were good. All HLQ scales were found to be homogenous, with a composite reliability ranging from 0.74 to 0.85. The nine-factor Bayesian structural equation model fitted the data well (Posterior-Predictive-P value = 0.670; 95% Confidence Interval for the difference between the observed and replicated Chi-square values = - 163.320, 102.750). CONCLUSIONS: The Chinese version of the HLQ has strong construct and content validity and high composite reliability when applied to older adults in Changsha City, China. Therefore, the nine-scale HLQ can now be administered to Chinese older adults, thereby providing a powerful approach to understanding the multidimensional area of health literacy.

RESUMO

Ganoderma lucidum is an edible medicinal mushroom known as "Lingzhi" in China and "Reishi or Manetake" in Japan. It is a highly prized vitality-enhancing herb for more than 2000 years. G. lucidum polysaccharide (GLPS) has been identified as one of the major bioactive components and developed into a drug named "Ji 731 Injection" in China since 1973. The large-scale production of the drug began in 1985 and approved by the Chinese FDA as "Polysaccharidum of G. lucidum Karst Injection" (Ling Bao Duo Tang Zhu She Ye) in 2000, which is applied intramuscularly. After more than forty years of clinical use, its efficacy, safety and long-term tolerability have been recognized by neurologists. It is one of a few non-hormonal drugs used for treating refractory myopathy. It is also used for combination therapy, which reduces the amount of glucocorticoid required for myopathy patient who is in remission. In addition, it reduces adverse reactions and improves the quality of life for cancer patients during chemotherapy. We found 81 qualified chemical, biochemical, preclinical and clinical studies of GLPS both in English and in Chinese spanning from 1973 to 2017 by searching CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure), Wanfang database and PubMed. The molecular mechanisms underlying GLPS's antioxidant, anti-tumour, immune-modulatory, hypoglycaemic, hypolipidaemic and other activities are discussed. Both preclinical and clinical studies are either deliberated or indexed in the current article. We aimed at providing a molecular picture as well as a clinical basis to comprehend GLPS as one of few polysaccharide-based modern medicines with complicated chemical and pharmacological properties that prevent it from entering the world's market.
