RESUMO

The purpose of this exploratory study was to gain an understanding of the state of clergy-led premarital financial counseling. Clergy respondents (n = 223) indicated that they often include a financial component in their formal premarital counseling. The most frequently discussed financial topics are budgeting, managing debt and credit, and saving. The most frequently cited obstacles to providing premarital financial counseling are lack of time and lack of subject matter expertise.

RESUMO

The Financial Impact Scale (FIS) was designed for use with all informal long-term caregivers. The FIS provides a mechanism by which this relatively ignored dimension of caregiving can be measured. Scale development results with 98 subjects yielded a unidimensional scale with a Cronbach's Alpha of .9324. Correlations of the FIS with the Zarit Burden Scale (1980) and the two Hafstrom and Dunsing (1973) measures of financial well-being proved the FIS to be a valid instrument that is a sensitive measure of differences in financial impact.

RESUMO

The attitudinal and normative beliefs of 136 men and women American jurors following a week of service were examined in an effort to understand more fully individual perceptions of the public's role in this important aspect of the judicial process. The extended model of behavioral intention was used as a conceptual framework for assessing the significance of varying dimensions of jury service underlying individual attitudes and intentions. The results reveal that behavior regarding jury service may be largely governed by individual attitudes as opposed to normative influences and that the critical dimension of jury duty affecting juror attitudes reflects the belief that jury participation is a worthwhile service to the community.
