RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In this article, we use cross-sectional data obtained from the 2018 China Health and Aging Tracking Survey (CHARLS) to examine the impact of neighborhood mental health at the community level on the mental health of older adults aged 60 years and older. METHODS: NMH is the average mental health of older adults in the same community, excluding the older adults themselves. The explained variable mental health in this paper was measured using the simple CES-D depression scale. The mediating variables were social connectedness, social participation and social inclusion, and the instrumental variables were physical exercise and amusement. regression analysis was conducted using OLS regression models, two-stage least squares (IV-2SLS) instrumental variables to address the two-way causality of NMH and MH, and KHB decomposition was used to investigate the effect mechanism. RESULTS: Baseline regressions showed that the neighborhood mental health effect positively influenced the mental health of older adults (Coef. = 0.356, 95% CI 0.315,0.397). The neighborhood mental health effect estimated by IV-2SLS (Coef. = 0.251, 95% CI 0.096,0.405) was higher than the OLS regression, indicating endogeneity. The mediated effects of KHB showed total (Coef. = 0.356, 95% CI 0.314,0.398), direct (Coef. = 0.281, 95% CI 0.232,0.330), and indirect effects (Coef. = 0.075, 95% CI 0.049,0.101). While the total effect was 1.266 times higher than the direct effect, 21.03% of the total effect came from mediating variables. CONCLUSIONS: First, the neighborhood mental health effect has a positive impact on the mental health of older adults, but there are heterogeneous differences based on gender, age, and place of residence. Second, the results of the IV-2SLS estimation showed that the effect of the neighborhood mental health effect was underestimated if endogenous problems were not controlled for. Third, the effect of neighborhood mental health on older adults' mental health was tested to be stable. Moreover, social connectedness, social participation, and social interaction are important mediating mechanisms for the effect of neighborhood mental health on older adults' mental health. This study provides new perspectives and ideas for an in-depth understanding of the mental health of older adults in the context of social transformation in China.

RESUMO

Objective: Loneliness is a key social and public health issue, mainly affecting the mental health of older adults. The article aimed to explore the influence of intergenerational support from children on loneliness among older adults. Meanwhile, the article also analyzed the moderating effects of internet usage and intergenerational distance in this process. Methods: Based on the data received from 2018 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey (CLASS), the ordinary least square (OLS) regression model was used to analyze the influence of intergenerational support from children on loneliness among older adults. Furthermore, the Bootstrap method was used to test the moderating effect of internet usage and intergenerational distance on the relationship between intergenerational support from children on loneliness among older adults. Results: Baseline regression showed that economic support (ß = -0.059, p < 0.001), caregiving support (ß = -0.070, p < 0.001), and emotional support (ß = -0.108, p < 0.001) from children can positively influence loneliness among older adults. Meanwhile, the results of the moderated effects analysis showed that internet usage and intergenerational distance moderates the relationship between caregiving support, emotional support from children and loneliness among older adults. Conclusion: The article demonstrates that family support, particularly intergenerational support from children plays a pivotal role in alleviating loneliness among older adults, so the government should further regulate the behavior of children's alimony support, improve the digital infrastructure, these measures help to reduce loneliness among older adults and expand the depth and breadth of family care of older adults.

RESUMO

Composite solid-state electrolyte (CSE) incorporated with fluorine-containing functional additives usually endows the assembled cell with improved electrochemical performance by forming stable electrode/electrolyte interfaces. However, most of fluorine-containing additives are prone to hydrolysis, which is not suitable for the large-scale preparation of CSEs. In this work, an antihydrolysis and fluorine-containing additive of magnesium 2,3,4,5,6-pentafluorophenylacetate (MgPFPAA) is successfully synthesized and then used to regulate the properties of the electrode/electrolyte interfaces of the all-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs). The antihydrolysis property of MgPFPAA facilitates the large-scale preparation of the ultrathin CSEs in atmospheric environment. Both theoretical calculations and experimental results indicate that MgPFPAA can effectively improve the composition and structure of the generated solid electrolyte interface film by providing rich F sources and Mg2+ , thus leading to a stable CSE/Li interface. Furthermore, an ultrathin PEO/PVDF-based CSE (≈30 µm) functionalized by this novel MgPFPAA additive enables the assembled LiFePO4 -based ASSLB with greatly enhanced electrochemical performances, with high discharge specific capacity of 93.7 mAh g-1 at 10 C and a high capacity retention of 74.9% after 1500 cycles at 5.0 C. Also, this MgPFPAA functionalized CSE can be compatible with the high-areal-capacity LiFePO4 and the high-voltage LiNi0.8 Co0.1 Mn0.1 O2 cathodes.

RESUMO

Dietary restriction of l-methionine, an essential amino acid, exerts potent antitumor effects on l-methionine-dependent cancers. However, dietary restriction of l-methionine has not been practical for human therapy because of the problem with the administration of l-methionine concentration in foods. Here, a thermophilic methionine γ-lyase (MGL), that catalyzes the cleavage of the C-S bond in l-methionine to produce α-ketobutyric acid, methanethiol, and ammonia was engineered from human cystathionine γ-lyase and almost completely depleted l-methionine at 65 °C, a temperature that accelerates the volatilization of methanethiol and its oxidation products. The high efficiency of l-methionine lysis may be attributed to the cooperative fluctuation and moderate the structural rigidity of 4 monomers in the thermophilic MGL, which facilitates l-methionine access to the entrance of the active site. Experimental diets treated with thermophilic MGL markedly inhibited prostate tumor growth in mice, and in parallel, the in vivo concentrations of l-methionine, its transformation product l-cysteine, and the oxidative stress indicator malondialdehyde significantly decreased. These findings provide a technology for the depletion of l-methionine in foods with an engineered thermophilic MGL, which efficiently inhibits tumor growth in mice.

RESUMO

There is an increasingly growth of China's social security expenditure(SSE) during the past decade. Regarding to the great responsibility and impact on citizens' welfare and economic development, the efficiency of social security expenditure has inevitably become the focus of growing attention. Based on Chinese provincial panel data over the period 2007-2016, a three-stage DEA model was conducted and found that the efficiency level of 29 provinces/municipalities did not reach the efficiency frontier. Environmental factors and statistical noises have a significant impact on the efficiency of SSE, if environmental factors and statistical noises are not considered, the efficiency of SSE in China is likely to be underestimated. The regional differences in the efficiency of SSE were significant and ranked by descending order as follows: central region, eastern region and western region.
