RESUMO

The performance of blue quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) is limited by unbalanced charge injection, resulting from insufficient holes caused by low mobility or significant energy barriers. Here, we introduce an angular-shaped heteroarene based on cyclopentane[b]thiopyran (C8-SS) to modify the hole transport layer poly-N-vinylcarbazole (PVK), in blue QLEDs. C8-SS exhibits high hole mobility and conductivity due to the π···π and S···π interactions. Introducing C8-SS to PVK significantly enhanced hole mobility, increasing it by 2 orders of magnitude from 2.44 × 10-6 to 1.73 × 10-4 cm2 V-1 s-1. Benefiting from high mobility and conductivity, PVK:C8-SS-based QLEDs exhibit a low turn-on voltage (Von) of 3.2 V. More importantly, the optimized QLEDs achieve a high peak power efficiency (PE) of 7.13 lm/W, which is 2.65 times that of the control QLEDs. The as-proposed interface engineering provides a novel and effective strategy for achieving high-performance blue QLEDs in low-energy consumption lighting applications.

RESUMO

Large-size luminescent solar concentrators (LSCs), which act as a complement to silicon-based photovoltaic (Si-PV) systems, still suffer from low power conversion efficiency (PCE). How to improve the performance of LSCs, especially large ones, is currently a hot research topic. Traditional LSCs have only a single transmission mode of fluorescence from the luminescent materials to the Si-PV, but here we introduce a new idea to improve the absorption of Si-PV by employing dual transmission modes of both fluorescence and scattering light. To prepare LSCs with dual mode transmission, Si-PV systems are coupled around the edges of a light-harvesting slice, which is prepared by ultraviolet light-induced polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) solution containing both luminescent CsPbBr3 and TiO2 nanocrystals (NCs). When the sun light or incident light is coupled into the light-harvesting slice, CsPbBr3 NCs can convert the incident light into fluorescence, and then partly transmit to Si-PV at the edges, where the light is finally converted into electrical energy. Besides the traditional fluorescence transmission mode, the addition of TiO2 brings another transmission mode, namely the scattering of incident light to Si-PV, leading to an increase in PCE. In comparison to that of pure CsPbBr3-based LSCs without the addition of TiO2 (0.97%), the PCE of TiO2-doped LSCs with a large size of 20 cm × 20 cm is improved to 1.82%. The maximal PCE appears for LSCs with a size of 5 cm × 5 cm, reaching 2.62%. The reported method of dual transmission modes is a new alternative way to improve the performance of LSC devices, which does not need to change the optical properties of luminescent materials. Moreover, the production process is simple, low-cost and suitable for preparing large area LSCs, further promoting the application of LSCs.

RESUMO

Black phosphorus quantum dots (BPQDs) have been prepared by a high turbulent shear rate generated from a household kitchen blender. A layer-by-layer disintegration mechanism of bulk BP crystals is suggested. As-synthesized BPQDs have shown excellent humidity sensing and photothermal converting properties. Importantly, this work not only explores potential applications for the BPQDs but also provides a successful paradigm for preparing the QDs of other layered materials.

RESUMO

In this work, we used Ag- and Mn-doped ZnInS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) acting as a new generation of nontoxic dual-emission QDs with simultaneous tunable emission wavelengths and dual-emission ratiometric, which makes nontoxic dual-emission QDs with broad zone tunability in the color coordinate. The Ag-doped ZnInS ternary QDs can give rise to largely tunable emission wavelengths from 497 nm to 631 nm. The ratiometric of Ag and Mn dual emissions can be tuned by controlling AgMn and MnMn dopant coupling. With increased Mn doping amount, the increased AgMn dopant coupling leads to increased Mn emission at the expense of lowered Ag emission and Ag fluorescence lifetime. The MnMn coupling can be controlled by using different doping manners: co-doping Ag and Mn in ZnInS core or separate-doping Ag in ZnInS core and Mn in ZnS shell. Compared with co-doping, separate doping has weaker MnMn interactions, an increased Mn irradiative recombination rate constant, and bright Mn photoluminescence.

RESUMO

In the modern era, structural health monitoring (SHM) is critically important and indispensable in the aerospace industry as an effective measure to enhance the safety and consistency of aircraft structures by deploying a reliable sensor network. The deployment of built-in sensor networks enables uninterrupted structural integrity monitoring of an aircraft, providing crucial information on operation condition, deformation, and potential damage to the structure. Sustainable and durable piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) with good flexibility, high performance, and superior reliability are promising candidates for powering wireless sensor networks, particularly for aerospace SHM applications. This research demonstrates a self-powered wireless sensing system based on a porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)-based PENG, which is prominently anticipated for developing auto-operated sensor networks. Our reported porous PVDF film is made from a flexible piezoelectric polymer (PVDF) and inorganic zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles. The fabricated porous PVDF-based PENG demonstrates ∼11 times and ∼8 times enhancement of output current and voltage, respectively, compared to a pure PVDF-based PENG. The porous PVDF-based PENG can produce a peak-to-peak short-circuit current of 22 µA, a peak-to-peak open-circuit voltage of 84.5 V, a peak output power of 0.46 mW (P=Voc2×Isc2), and a peak output power density of 41.02 µW/cm2 (P/A). By harnessing energy from minute vibrations, the fabricated porous PVDF-based PENG device (area of A = 11.33 cm2) can generate sufficient electrical energy to power up a customized wireless sensing and communication unit and transfer sensor data every ∼4 min. The PENG can generate sufficient electrical energy from an automobile car vibration, which reflects the scenario of potential real-life SHM systems. We anticipate that this high-performance porous PVDF-based PENG can act as a reliable power source for the sensor networks in aircraft, which minimizes potential safety risks.

RESUMO

Unlike widely used postsynthetic halide exchange for CsPbX3 (X is halide) perovskite nanocrystals (NCs), cation exchange of Pb is of a great challenge due to the rigid nature of the Pb cationic sublattice. Actually, cation exchange has more potential for rendering NCs with peculiar properties. Herein, a novel halide exchange-driven cation exchange (HEDCE) strategy is developed to prepare dually emitting Mn-doped CsPb(Cl/Br)3 NCs via postsynthetic replacement of partial Pb in preformed perovskite NCs. The basic idea for HEDCE is that the partial cation exchange of Pb by Mn has a large probability to occur as a concomitant result for opening the rigid halide octahedron structure around Pb during halide exchange. Compared to traditional ionic exchange, HEDCE is featured by proceeding of halide exchange and cation exchange at the same time and lattice site. The time and space requirements make only MnCl2 molecules (rather than mixture of Mn and Cl ions) capable of doping into perovskite NCs. This special molecular doping nature results in a series of unusual phenomenon, including long reaction time, core-shell structured mid states with triple emission bands, and dopant molecules composition-dependent doping process. As-prepared dual-emitting Mn-doped CsPb(Cl/Br)3 NCs are available for ratiometric temperature sensing.
