BACKGROUND: The precise origin of newly formed ACTA2+ (alpha smooth muscle actin-positive) cells appearing in nonmuscularized vessels in the context of pulmonary hypertension is still debatable although it is believed that they predominantly derive from preexisting vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). METHODS: Gli1Cre-ERT2; tdTomatoflox mice were used to lineage trace GLI1+ (glioma-associated oncogene homolog 1-positive) cells in the context of pulmonary hypertension using 2 independent models of vascular remodeling and reverse remodeling: hypoxia and cigarette smoke exposure. Hemodynamic measurements, right ventricular hypertrophy assessment, flow cytometry, and histological analysis of thick lung sections followed by state-of-the-art 3-dimensional reconstruction and quantification using Imaris software were used to investigate the contribution of GLI1+ cells to neomuscularization of the pulmonary vasculature. RESULTS: The data show that GLI1+ cells are abundant around distal, nonmuscularized vessels during steady state, and this lineage contributes to around 50% of newly formed ACTA2+ cells around these normally nonmuscularized vessels. During reverse remodeling, cells derived from the GLI1+ lineage are largely cleared in parallel to the reversal of muscularization. Partial ablation of GLI1+ cells greatly prevented vascular remodeling in response to hypoxia and attenuated the increase in right ventricular systolic pressure and right heart hypertrophy. Single-cell RNA sequencing on sorted lineage-labeled GLI1+ cells revealed an Acta2high fraction of cells with pathways in cancer and MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) signaling as potential players in reprogramming these cells during vascular remodeling. Analysis of human lung-derived material suggests that GLI1 signaling is overactivated in both group 1 and group 3 pulmonary hypertension and can promote proliferation and myogenic differentiation. CONCLUSIONS: Our data highlight GLI1+ cells as an alternative cellular source of VSMCs in pulmonary hypertension and suggest that these cells and the associated signaling pathways represent an important therapeutic target for further studies.

RESUMO

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability, and genetic risk factors play a significant role in its development. Unfortunately, effective therapies for stroke are currently limited. Early detection and diagnosis are critical for improving outcomes and developing new treatment strategies. In this study, we aimed to identify potential biomarkers and effective prevention and treatment strategies for stroke by conducting transcriptome and single-cell analyses. Our analysis included screening for biomarkers, functional enrichment analysis, immune infiltration, cell-cell communication, and single-cell metabolism. Through differential expression analysis, enrichment analysis, and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network construction, we identified HIST2H2AC as a potential biomarker for stroke. Our study also highlighted the diagnostic role of HIST2H2AC in stroke, its relationship with immune cells in the stroke environment, and our improved understanding of metabolic pathways after stroke. Overall, our research provided important insights into the pathogenesis of stroke, including potential biomarkers and treatment strategies that can be explored further to improve outcomes for stroke patients.

Emerging contaminants have recently evolved into a severe worldwide environmental issue. Organophosphate flame retardants (OPFRs) with neurotoxicity, genotoxicity, and reproductive and developmental toxicity are a class of notorious emerging contaminants that cause great concern. The development of high-efficiency and portable sensors for rapid online monitoring of OPFRs has become the primary demand for the exploration of the environmental migration and transformation of OPFRs. In this work, interestingly, the cataluminescence (CTL) phenomenon of OPFRs is first observed, and an ingenious multidimensional ratiometric CTL sensing strategy is developed for the recognition of multiple OPFRs. Three characteristic ratios are extracted from the multipeak CTL spectral curves based on energy transfer of single Tb/Eu-modified MgO sensing material, and thus a novel three-dimensional (3D) code recognition could be mapped out. This obtained 3D coordinate is found to be a unique characteristic for a given OPFR, just like an exclusive person's ID number, which can successfully discriminate and detect 10 kinds of OPFR vapors, including homologous series and isomers. More importantly, CTL mechanism investigations for OPFRs demonstrate that OPFRs undergo a series of chemical reaction processes, e.g., oxidative pyrolysis and hydroxylation, and different high-energy excited intermediates are generated, which trigger discrepant energy-transfer efficiency toward rare earth ions, leading to multipeak spectral profiles. Briefly, this proposed CTL analytical platform for OPFRs recognition initiates a new sensing principle for the efficient identification of emerging contaminants and shows significant prospects on rapid on-site detection.

Hecogenin (HCG), a steroidal sapogenin, possesses good antitumor properties. However, the application of HCG for cancer treatment has been hindered primarily by its moderate potency. In this study, we incorporated triphenylphosphonium cation (TPP+) at the C-3 and C-12 positions through different lengths of alkyl chains to target mitochondria and enhance the efficacy and selectivity of the parent compound. Cytotoxicity screening revealed that most of the target compounds exhibited potent antiproliferative activity against five human cancer cell lines (MKN45, A549, HCT-116, MCF-7, and HepG2). Structure-activity relationship studies indicated that the TPP+ group significantly enhanced the antiproliferative potency of HCG. Among these compounds, 3c demonstrated remarkable potency against MKN45 cells with an IC50 value of 0.48 µM, significantly more effective than its parent compound HCG (IC50 > 100 µM). Further investigations into the mechanism of action revealed that 3c induced apoptosis of MKN45 cells through the mitochondrial pathway. In a zebrafish xenograft model, 3c inhibited the proliferation of MKN45 cells. Overall, these results suggest that 3c, with potent antiproliferative activity, may serve as a valuable scaffold for developing new antitumor agents.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a progressive fatal disease with no cure. Canagliflozin (CANA), a novel medication for diabetes, has been found to have remarkable cardiovascular benefits. However, few studies have addressed the effect and pharmacological mechanism of CANA in the treatment of PH. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the effect and pharmacological mechanism of CANA in treating PH. First, CANA suppressed increased pulmonary artery pressure, right ventricular hypertrophy, and vascular remodeling in both mouse and rat PH models. Network pharmacology, transcriptomics, and biological results suggested that CANA could ameliorate PH by suppressing excessive oxidative stress and pulmonary artery smooth muscle cell proliferation partially through the activation of PPARγ. Further studies demonstrated that CANA inhibited phosphorylation of PPARγ at Ser225 (a novel serine phosphorylation site in PPARγ), thereby promoting the nuclear translocation of PPARγ and increasing its ability to resist oxidative stress and proliferation. Taken together, our study not only highlighted the potential pharmacological effect of CANA on PH but also revealed that CANA-induced inhibition of PPARγ Ser225 phosphorylation increases its capacity to counteract oxidative stress and inhibits proliferation. These findings may stimulate further research and encourage future clinical trials exploring the therapeutic potential of CANA in PH treatment.

When magnetic matching aided navigation is applied to an underwater vehicle, the magnetometer must be installed inside the vehicle, considering the navigation safety and concealment of the underwater vehicle. Then, the interference magnetic field will seriously affect the accuracy of geomagnetic field measurement, which directly affects the accuracy of geomagnetic matching aided navigation. Therefore, improving the accuracy of geomagnetic measurements inside the vehicle through error compensation has become one of the most difficult problems that requires an urgent solution in geomagnetic matching aided navigation. In order to solve this problem, this paper establishes the calculation model of the internal magnetic field of the underwater vehicle and the geomagnetic measurement error model of the ship-borne magnetometer. Then, a compensation method for the geomagnetic measurement error of the ship-borne magnetometer, based on the constrained total least square method, is proposed. To verify the effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper, a simulation experiment of geomagnetic measurement and compensation of a ship-borne three-axis magnetometer was constructed. Among them, to be closer to the real situation, a combination of the geomagnetism model, the elliptic shell model and the magnetic dipole model was used to simulate the internal magnetic field of the underwater vehicle. The experimental results indicated that the root mean square error of geomagnetic measurement in an underwater vehicle was less than 5 nT after compensation, and the accuracy of geomagnetic measurement met the requirements of geomagnetic matching aided navigation.

Two types of isostructural iron-cobalt/nickel-antimony-oxo tartrate cluster-based compounds, namely (H3O)(Me2NH2)[M(H2O)6]2[FeII2SbIII12(µ4-O)3(µ3-O)8(tta)6]·6H2O (M = Co (1); Ni (3)), H5/3[Co2.5FeII4/3FeIII3(H2O)13SbV1/3FeIII2/3(µ4-O)2(µ3-O)4SbIII6(µ3-O)2(tta)6]·2H2O (2) and H2[Ni2.25FeII1.5FeIII3(H2O)14SbV0.25FeIII0.75(µ4-O)2(µ3-O)4SbIII6(µ3-O)2(tta)6]·2H2O (4) (H4tta = tartaric acid) were synthesized via simple solvothermal reactions. All the clusters in the structures adopt sandwich configurations, that is, bilayer sandwich configuration in 1 and 3 and monolayer sandwich configuration in 2 and 4. Interestingly, the monolayer sandwiched compounds 2 and 4 represent rare examples of cluster-based compounds containing mixed-valence Sb(III, V), whose center of the intermediate layer is the co-occupied [FexSbV1-x]. This is different from that of previously reported sandwich-type antimony-oxo clusters in which the center position is either occupied by a transition metal ion or a Sb(V) alone. Thus, the discovery of title compounds 2 and 4 makes the evolution of center metal ion more complete, that is, from M, MxSbV1-x to SbV. All the title compounds were fully characterized, and the photocatalysis, proton conduction and magnetism of compounds 2 and 4 were studied.

This study observed the effects of Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma on the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(Akt)/mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1(mTORC1) signaling pathway and mitochondrial energy metabolism in the rat model of adriamycin-induced renal fibrosis with blood stasis syndrome to explore the mechanism of Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma in protecting the kidney. Thirty male rats with adriamycin-induced renal fibrosis were randomized into model, low-, medium-, and high-dose Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma, and positive control groups(n=6). Six clean SD male rats were selected into the normal group. The normal group and model group were administrated with normal saline, and other groups with corresponding drugs. After 8 weeks of treatment, the renal function, renal pathology, adenosine triphosphate(ATP) levels, Na~+-K~+-ATPase and Ca~(2+)-Mg~(2+)-ATPase activities, and the protein levels of ATP5B, mTORC1, 70 kDa ribosomal protein S6 kinase(P70S6K), P85, Akt, p-Akt, and SH2-containing inositol phosphatase(SHIP2) in the renal tissue were determined. Compared with the normal group, the model group showed elevated levels of blood urea nitrogen(BUN) and serum creatinine(SCr)(P<0.01). Compared with the model group, Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma and the positive control lowered the levels of BUN and SCr, which were significant in the medium-and high-dose Noto-ginseng Radix et Rhizoma groups and the positive control group(P<0.05). Compared with the model group, Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma and the positive control alleviated the pathological changes in the renal tissue, such as vacuolar and fibroid changes, glomerulus atrophy, cystic expansion of renal tubules, and massive infiltration of inflammatory cells. Compared with the normal group, the model group showed decreased mitochondrial ATP content and Na~+-K~+-ATPase and Ca~(2+)-Mg~(2+)-ATPase activities in the renal tissue(P<0.05), and medium-and high-dose Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma and positive control mitigated such decreases(P<0.05). Compared with the model group, medium-and high-dose Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma and the positive control up-regulated the protein levels of ATP5B and SHIP2 and down-regulated the protein levels of mTORC1, P70S6K, P85, Akt, and p-Akt(P<0.05 or P<0.01 or P<0.001). Notoginseng Radix et Rhizoma may exert an anti-fibrosis effect by inhibiting the activation of the PI3K/Akt/mTORC1 pathway to restore mitochondrial energy metabolism, thus protecting the kidney.

Herein, we present a new series of CuI-based hybrid materials with tunable structures and semiconducting properties. The CuI inorganic modules can be tailored into a one-dimensional (1D) chain and two-dimensional (2D) layer and confined/stabilized in coordination frameworks of potassium isonicotinic acid (HINA) and its derivatives (HINA-R, R = OH, NO2, and COOH). The resulting CuI-based hybrid materials exhibit interesting semiconducting behaviors associated with the dimensionality of the inorganic module; for instance, the structures containing the 2D-CuI module demonstrate significantly enhanced photoconductivity with a maximum increase of five orders of magnitude compared to that of the structures containing the 1D-CuI module. They also represent the first CuI-bearing hybrid chemiresistive gas sensors for NO2 with boosted sensing performance and sensitivity at multiple orders of magnitude over that of the pristine CuI. Particularly, the sensing ability of CuI-K-INA containing both 1D- and 2D-CuI modules is comparable to those of the best NO2 chemiresistors reported thus far.

Constructing heterogeneous nanostructures is an efficient strategy to improve the electrical and ionic conductivity of metal chalcogenide-based anodes. Herein, ZnS/SnO2 quantum dots (QDs) as p-n heterojunctions that are uniformly anchored to reduced graphene oxides (ZnS-SnO2 @rGO) are designed and engineered. Combining the merits of fast electron transport via the internal electric field and a greatly shortened Li/Na ion diffusion pathway in the ZnS/SnO2 QDs (3-5 nm), along with the excellent electrical conductivity and good structural stability provided by the rGO matrix, the ZnS-SnO2 @rGO anode exhibits enhanced electronic and ionic conductivity, which can be proved by both experiments and theoretical calculations. Consequently, the ZnS-SnO2 @rGO anode shows a significantly improved rate performance that simple counterpart composite anodes cannot achieve. Specifically, high reversible specific capacities are achieved for both lithium-ion battery (551 mA h g-1 at 5.0 A g-1 , 670 mA h g-1 at 3.0 A g-1 after 1400 cycles) and sodium-ion battery (334 mA h g-1 at 5.0 A g-1 , 313 mA h g-1 at 1.0 A g-1 after 400 cycles). Thus, this strategy to build semiconductor metal sulfides/metal oxide heterostructures at the atomic scale may inspire the rational design of metal compounds for high-performance battery applications.

137 Cs and 90 Sr are hazardous to ecological environment and human health due to their strong radioactivity, long half-life, and high mobility. However, effective adsorption and separation of Cs+ and Sr2+ from acidic radioactive wastewater is challenging due to stability issues of material and the strong competition of protons. Herein, a K+ -activated niobium germanate (K-NGH-1) presents efficient Cs+ /Sr2+ coadsorption and highly selective Cs+ /Sr2+ separation, respectively, under different acidity conditions. In neutral solution, K-NGH-1 exhibits ultrafast adsorption kinetics and high adsorption capacity for both Cs+ and Sr2+ (qm Cs  = 182.91 mg g-1 ; qm Sr  = 41.62 mg g-1 ). In 1 M HNO3 solution, K-NGH-1 still possesses qm Cs of 91.40 mg g-1 for Cs+ but almost no adsorption for Sr2+ . Moreover, K-NGH-1 can effectively separate Cs+ from 1 M HNO3 solutions with excess competing Sr2+ and Mn + (Mn +  = Na+ , Ca2+ , Mg2+ ) ions. Thus, efficient separation of Cs+ and Sr2+ is realized under acidic conditions. Besides, K-NGH-1 shows excellent acid and radiation resistance and recyclability. All the merits above endow K-NGH-1 with the first example of niobium germanates for radionuclides remediation. This work highlights the facile pH control approach towards bifunctional ion exchangers for efficient Cs+ /Sr2+ coadsorption and selective separation.

PIWI-interacting RNA (piRNA) is a class of recently discovered small non-coding RNA molecules with a length of 18-33 nt that interacts with the PIWI protein to form the piRNA/PIWI complex. The PIWI family is a subfamily of Argonaute (AGO) proteins that also contain the AGO family which bind to microRNA (miRNA). Recently studies indicate that piRNAs are not specific to in the mammalian germline, they are also expressed in a tissue-specific manner in a variety of human tissues and participated in various of diseases, such as cardiovascular, neurological, and urinary tract diseases, and are especially prevalent in malignant tumors in these systems. However, the functions and abnormal expression of piRNAs in respiratory tract diseases and their underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. In this review, we discuss current studies summarizing the biogenetic processes, functions, and emerging roles of piRNAs in respiratory tract diseases, providing a reference value for future piRNA research.

BACKGROUND: Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a novel class of non-coding RNAs, play an important regulatory role in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH); however, the specific mechanism is rarely studied. In this study, we aimed to discover functional circRNAs and investigate their effects and mechanisms in hypoxia-induced pulmonary vascular remodelling, a core pathological change in PAH. METHODS: RNA sequencing was used to illustrate the expression profile of circRNAs in hypoxic PAH. Bioinformatics, Sanger sequencing, and quantitative real-time PCR were used to identify the ring-forming characteristics of RNA and analyse its expression. Then, we established a hypoxia-induced PAH mouse model to evaluate circRNA function in PAH by echocardiography and hemodynamic measurements. Moreover, microRNA target gene database screening, fluorescence in situ hybridisation, luciferase reporter gene detection, and western blotting were used to explore the mechanism of circRNAs. RESULTS: RNA sequencing identified 432 differentially expressed circRNAs in mouse hypoxic lung tissues. Our results indicated that circ-Ntrk2 is a stable cytoplasmic circRNA derived from Ntrk2 mRNA and frequently upregulated in hypoxic lung tissue. We further found that circ-Ntrk2 sponges miR-296-5p and miR-296-5p can bind to the 3'-untranslated region of transforming growth factor-ß1 (TGF-ß1) mRNA, thereby attenuating TGF-ß1 translation. Through gene knockout or exogenous expression, we demonstrated that circ-Ntrk2 could promote PAH and vascular remodelling. Moreover, we verified that miR-296-5p overexpression alleviated pulmonary vascular remodelling and improved PAH through the TGF-ß1/p38 MAPK pathway. CONCLUSIONS: We identified a new circRNA (circ-Ntrk2) and explored its function and mechanism in PAH, thereby establishing potential targets for the diagnosis and treatment of PAH. Furthermore, our study contributes to the understanding of circRNA in relation to PAH.

Here, two isomeric ionic zero-dimensional indium bromide crystals of α (1)/ß (2)-[OPy][InBr4(Phen)] (OPy = N-octylpyridinium; Phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) have been isolated simply by changing the cooling conditions in solvothermal syntheses. Structural comparisons indicate their different supramolecular interactions, which can be confirmed by Hirshfeld surface analyses. The crystal 2 has additional hydrogen bonds and π-π interactions; as a result, the more compact stacking of 2 could result in a 10-fold higher photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield (PLQY) than that of 1. Density functional theory calculations confirm the electron transition from the inorganic moiety to the organic ligand, which provides a further understanding of the optical process. This work provides a new idea for designing PL indium-based halides by understanding the structure-PL relationship.

Polydopamine (PDA) is a good adhesion agent for lots of gels inspired by the mussel, whereas hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) usually exhibit extraordinary optoelectronic performance. Herein, mussel-inspired chemistry has been integrated with two-dimensional HOIPs first, leading to the preparation of new crystal (HDA)2PbBr4 (1) (DA = dopamine). The organic cation dopamine can be introduced into PDA resulting in a thin film of (HPDA)2PbBr4 (PDA-1). The dissolved inorganic components of layered perovskite in DMF solution together with H2O2 addition can facilitate DA polymerization greatly. More importantly, PDA-1 can inherit an excellent semiconductor property of HOIPs and robust adhesion of the PDA hydrogel resulting in a self-adhesive photoelectric coating on various interfaces.

Background and aim: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is a serious and even fatal disorder with limited treatment strategies. The hypoxia-induced pulmonary hypertension (HPH) rat model is commonly used in this field. While the HPH rat model has strong predictability and repeatability, the model is a chronic model, making it time-consuming, costly, and complicated and limiting the progress of the experiments. Currently, there is no uniform international standard for the HPH model. Our study aimed to find a relatively effective and efficient HPH modeling protocol. Methods: We established HPH rat models with different total hypoxia periods and different daily hypoxia times, and assessed different hypoxia modeling modes in multiple dimensions, such as haemodynamics, right ventricular (RV) hypertrophy, pulmonary arterial remodeling, muscularization, inflammation, and collagen deposition. Results: Longer daily hypoxia time resulted in higher mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP)/right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP) and more obvious RV hypertrophy, as well as more severe pulmonary arterial remodeling and muscularization, regardless of the total period of hypoxia (3- or 4-week). Moreover, pulmonary perivascular macrophages and collagen deposition showed daily hypoxia time-dependent increases, both in 3- and 4-week hypoxia groups. Conclusion: Our findings showed that the 3-week continuous hypoxia mode was a relatively efficient way to reduce the time needed to induce significant disease phenotypes, which offered methodological evidence for future studies in building HPH models.

Doxorubicin is a common chemotherapeutic agent in clinic, but myocardial toxicity limits its use. Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 10, a multifunctional paracrine growth factor, plays diverse roles in embryonic and postnatal heart development as well as in cardiac regeneration and repair. In this study we investigated the role of FGF10 as a potential modulator of doxorubicin-induced cardiac cytotoxicity and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Fgf10+/- mice and an inducible dominant negative FGFR2b transgenic mouse model (Rosa26rtTA; tet(O)sFgfr2b) were used to determine the effect of Fgf10 hypomorph or blocking of endogenous FGFR2b ligands activity on doxorubicin-induced myocardial injury. Acute myocardial injury was induced by a single injection of doxorubicin (25 mg/kg, i.p.). Then cardiac function was evaluated using echocardiography, and DNA damage, oxidative stress and apoptosis in cardiac tissue were assessed. We showed that doxorubicin treatment markedly decreased the expression of FGFR2b ligands including FGF10 in cardiac tissue of wild type mice, whereas Fgf10+/- mice exhibited a greater degree of oxidative stress, DNA damage and apoptosis as compared with the Fgf10+/+ control. Pre-treatment with recombinant FGF10 protein significantly attenuated doxorubicin-induced oxidative stress, DNA damage and apoptosis both in doxorubicin-treated mice and in doxorubicin-treated HL-1 cells and NRCMs. We demonstrated that FGF10 protected against doxorubicin-induced myocardial toxicity via activation of FGFR2/Pleckstrin homology-like domain family A member 1 (PHLDA1)/Akt axis. Overall, our results unveil a potent protective effect of FGF10 against doxorubicin-induced myocardial injury and identify FGFR2b/PHLDA1/Akt axis as a potential therapeutic target for patients receiving doxorubicin treatment.

BACKGROUND: The main features of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are abnormal follicular development and ovulatory dysfunction, which are caused by excessive apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells. Acupuncture has been shown to improve follicular development abnormalities in patients with PCOS, but its mechanism is unknown. This study hypothesized that the mechanism of acupuncture on follicular development abnormalities in PCOS patients is the inhibition of granulosa cell apoptosis through LncMEG3-mediated regulation of miR-21-3p. METHODS: A PCOS-like rat model was established using subcutaneous injection of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Acupuncture was performed on rats for 15 d (CV-4, RN-3, CV-6, SP-6 and EX-CA 1). Ovarian morphology was observed by HE staining, and sex hormone and AMH levels were detected by ELISA. Primary granulosa cells were isolated from each group of rats to assess the association of acupuncture treatment, LncMEG3, miR-21-3p, and granulosa cell apoptosis in rats with PCOS. RESULTS: LncMEG3 and miR-21-3p were highly expressed in the ovarian granulosa cells of rats with PCOS, and LncMEG3-mediated regulation of miR-21-3p was involved in the development of PCOS in rats. Silencing of MEG3 attenuated sex hormone dysregulation and ovarian histopathological changes in PCOS rats and promoted follicle cell development and maturation. In addition, silencing MEG3 increased the viability and number of granulosa cells. In addition, silencing MEG3 further inhibited early and late apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells in PCOS rats. Acupuncture improved polycystic ovarian morphology and sex hormone levels in PCOS rats. Acupuncture intervention increased the viability and number of granulosa cells. Acupuncture intervention inhibited early and late apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells in PCOS rats by targeting miR-21-3p via LncMEG3. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that acupuncture can downregulate LncMEG3, thereby targeting and regulating miR-21-3p to suppress early and late granulosa cell apoptosis and normalize their proliferation. These factors ultimately compensate for abnormal follicular development. These findings shed light on the clinical potential of acupuncture as a safe treatment for follicular developmental abnormalities in PCOS.

BACKGROUND: Patients with macular edema (ME) secondary to retinal vein occlusion (RVO) who received at least one intravitreal injection of anti-vascular endothelial growth factor therapy (VEGF) and lost to follow-up (LTFU) for more than six months were analyzed to investigate the factors contributing to the LTFU and the prognosis. METHOD: This was a retrospective, single-center study to analyze the causes and prognosis of LTFU over six months in RVO-ME patients treated with intravitreal anti-VEGF injections at our institution from January 2019 to August 2022 and to collect patients' baseline characteristics along with the number of injections before LTFU, primary disease, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) before LTFU and after return visit, central macular thickness (CMT), months before LTFU and after LTFU, reasons for LTFU, and complications, to analyze the factors affecting visual outcome at a return visit. RESULTS: This study included 125 patients with LTFU; 103 remained LTFU after six months, and 22 returned after LTFU. The common reason for LTFU was "no improvement in vision" (34.4%), followed by "transport inconvenience" (22.4%), 16 patients (12.8%) were unwilling to visit the clinic, 15 patients (12.0%) had already elected to seek treatment elsewhere, 12 patients (9.6%) were not seen in time due to the 2019-nCov epidemic, and 11 patients (8.8%) cannot do it due to financial reasons. The number of injections before LTFU was a risk factor for LTFU (P < 0.05). LogMAR at the initial visit (P < 0.001), CMT at the initial visit (P < 0.05), CMT before the LTFU (P < 0.001), and CMT after the return visit (P < 0.05) were influential factors for logMAR at the return visit. CONCLUSION: Most RVO-ME patients were LTFU after anti-VEGF therapy. Long-term LTFU is greatly detrimental to the visual quality of patients; thus, the management of RVO-ME patients in follow-up should be considered.

In this work, a copper iodine module bearing a coordination polymer (CP) with a formula of [(Cu2I2)2Ce2(INA)6(DMF)3]·DMF (1, HINA = isonicotinic acid, DMF = N,N'-dimethyl formamide) is presented. The title compound features a three dimensional (3D) structure, in which the {Cu2I2} cluster and {Cu2I2}n chain modules are coordinated by N atoms from a pyridine ring in INA- ligands, while the Ce3+ ions are bridged by the carboxylic groups of INA- ligands. More importantly, compound 1 exhibits an uncommon red fluorescence (FL) with a single emission band maximized at 650 nm belonging to near infrared (NIR) luminescence. The temperature dependent FL measurement was applied to investigate the FL mechanism. Remarkably, 1 could be used as a FL sensor to cysteine and the nitro-bearing explosive molecule of trinitropheno (TNP) with high sensitivity, demonstrating its potential FL sensing applications for biothiol and explosive molecules.
