Chromatin replication is intricately intertwined with the recycling of parental histones to the newly duplicated DNA strands for faithful genetic and epigenetic inheritance. The transfer of parental histones occurs through two distinct pathways: leading strand deposition, mediated by the DNA polymerase ε subunits Dpb3/Dpb4, and lagging strand deposition, facilitated by the MCM helicase subunit Mcm2. However, the mechanism of the facilitation of Mcm2 transferring parental histones to the lagging strand while moving along the leading strand remains unclear. Here, we show that the deletion of Pol32, a nonessential subunit of major lagging-strand DNA polymerase δ, results in a predominant transfer of parental histone H3-H4 to the leading strand during replication. Biochemical analyses further demonstrate that Pol32 can bind histone H3-H4 both in vivo and in vitro. The interaction of Pol32 with parental histone H3-H4 is disrupted through the mutation of the histone H3-H4 binding domain within Mcm2. Our findings identify the DNA polymerase δ subunit Pol32 as a critical histone chaperone downstream of Mcm2, mediating the transfer of parental histones to the lagging strand during DNA replication.

Bats are the natural reservoir hosts of some viruses, some of which may spill over to humans and cause global-scale pandemics. Different from humans, bats may coexist with high pathogenic viruses without showing symptoms of diseases. As one of the most important first defenses, bat type I IFNs (IFN-Is) were thought to play a role during this virus coexistence and thus were studied in recent years. However, there are arguments about whether bats have a contracted genome locus or constitutively expressed IFNs, mainly due to species-specific findings. We hypothesized that because of the lack of pan-bat analysis, the common characteristics of bat IFN-Is have not been revealed yet. In this study, we characterized the IFN-I locus for nine Yangochiroptera bats and three Yinpterochiroptera bats on the basis of their high-quality bat genomes. We also compared the basal expression in six bats and compared the antiviral and antiproliferative activity and the thermostability of representative Rhinolophus bat IFNs. We found a dominance of unconventional IFNω-like responses in the IFN-I system, which is unique to bats. In contrast to IFNα-dominated IFN-I loci in the majority of other mammals, bats generally have shorter IFN-I loci with more unconventional IFNω-like genes (IFNω or related IFNαω), but with fewer or even no IFNα genes. In addition, bats generally have constitutively expressed IFNs, the highest expressed of which is more likely an IFNω-like gene. Likewise, the highly expressed IFNω-like protein also demonstrated the best antiviral activity, antiproliferative activity, or thermostability, as shown in a representative Rhinolophus bat species. Overall, we revealed pan-bat unique, to our knowledge, characteristics in the IFN-I system, which provide insights into our understanding of the innate immunity that contributes to a special coexistence between bats and viruses.

Recycling of parental histones is an important step in epigenetic inheritance. During DNA replication, DNA polymerase epsilon subunit DPB3/DPB4 and DNA replication helicase subunit MCM2 are involved in the transfer of parental histones to the leading and lagging strands, respectively. Single Dpb3 deletion (dpb3Δ) or Mcm2 mutation (mcm2-3A), which each disrupts one parental histone transfer pathway, leads to the other's predominance. However, the biological impact of the two histone transfer pathways on chromatin structure and DNA repair remains elusive. In this study, we used budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae to determine the genetic and epigenetic outcomes from disruption of parental histone H3-H4 tetramer transfer. We found that a dpb3Δ mcm2-3A double mutant did not exhibit the asymmetric parental histone patterns caused by a single dpb3Δ or mcm2-3A mutation, suggesting that the processes by which parental histones are transferred to the leading and lagging strands are independent. Surprisingly, the frequency of homologous recombination was significantly lower in dpb3Δ, mcm2-3A and dpb3Δ mcm2-3A mutants, likely due to the elevated levels of free histones detected in the mutant cells. Together, these findings indicate that proper transfer of parental histones during DNA replication is essential for maintaining chromatin structure and that lower homologous recombination activity due to parental histone transfer defects is detrimental to cells.

Mechanical ventilation (MV) is an essential life-saving technique, but prolonged MV can cause significant diaphragmatic dysfunction due to atrophy and decreased contractility of the diaphragm fibres, called ventilator-induced diaphragmatic dysfunction (VIDD). It is not clear about the mechanism of occurrence and prevention measures of VIDD. Irisin is a newly discovered muscle factor that regulates energy metabolism. Studies have shown that irisin can exhibit protective effects by downregulating endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in a variety of diseases; whether irisin plays a protective role in VIDD has not been reported. Sprague-Dawley rats were mechanically ventilated to construct a VIDD model, and intervention was performed by intravenous administration of irisin. Diaphragm contractility, degree of atrophy, cross-sectional areas (CSAs), ER stress markers, AMPK protein expression, oxidative stress indicators and apoptotic cell levels were measured at the end of the experiment.Our findings showed that as the duration of ventilation increased, the more severe the VIDD was, the degree of ER stress increased, and the expression of irisin decreased.ER stress may be one of the causes of VIDD. Intervention with irisin ameliorated VIDD by reducing the degree of ER stress, attenuating oxidative stress, and decreasing the apoptotic index. MV decreases the expression of phosphorylated AMPK in the diaphragm, whereas the use of irisin increases the expression of phosphorylated AMPK. Irisin may exert its protective effect by activating the phosphorylated AMPK pathway.

Mitochondrial dynamics has emerged as an important target for neuronal protection after cerebral ischaemia/reperfusion. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the mechanism by which ARMC10 regulation of mitochondrial dynamics affects mitochondrial function involved in ischaemic stroke (IS). Mitochondrial morphology was detected by laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM), and mitochondrial ultrastructural alterations were detected by electron microscopy. The expression of mitochondrial dynamics-related genes Drp1, Mfn1, Mfn2, Fis1, OPA1 and ARMC10 and downstream target genes c-Myc, CyclinD1 and AXIN2 was detected by RT-qPCR. Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of ß-catenin, GSK-3ß, p-GSK-3ß, Bcl-2 and Bax. DCFH-DA fluorescent probe was to detect the effect of ARMC10 on mitochondrial ROS level, Annexin V-FITC fluorescent probe was to detect the effect of ARMC10 on apoptosis, and ATP assay kit was to detect the effect of ARMC10 on ATP production. Mitochondrial dynamics was dysregulated in clinical IS samples and in the OGD/R cell model, and the relative expression of ARMC10 gene was significantly decreased in IS group (p < 0.05). Knockdown and overexpression of ARMC10 could affect mitochondrial dynamics, mitochondrial function and neuronal apoptosis. Agonist and inhibitor affected mitochondrial function and neuronal apoptosis by targeting Wnt/ß-Catenin signal pathway. In the OGD/R model, ARMC10 affected mitochondrial function and neuronal apoptosis through the mechanism that regulates Wnt/ß-catenin signalling pathway. ARMC10 regulates mitochondrial dynamics and protects mitochondrial function by activating Wnt/ß-catenin signalling pathway, to exert neuroprotective effects.

Bats carry genetically diverse severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronaviruses (SARSr-CoVs). Some of them utilize human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (hACE2) as a receptor and cannot efficiently replicate in wild-type mice. Our previous study demonstrated that the bat SARSr-CoV rRsSHC014S induces respiratory infection and lung damage in hACE2 transgenic mice but not wild-type mice. In this study, we generated a mouse-adapted strain of rRsSHC014S, which we named SMA1901, by serial passaging of wild-type virus in BALB/c mice. SMA1901 showed increased infectivity in mouse lungs and induced interstitial lung pneumonia in both young and aged mice after intranasal inoculation. Genome sequencing revealed mutations in not only the spike protein but the whole genome, which may be responsible for the enhanced pathogenicity of SMA1901 in wild-type BALB/c mice. SMA1901 induced age-related mortality similar to that observed in SARS and COVID-19. Drug testing using antibodies and antiviral molecules indicated that this mouse-adapted virus strain can be used to test prophylactic and therapeutic drug candidates against SARSr-CoVs. IMPORTANCE The genetic diversity of SARSr-CoVs in wildlife and their potential risk of cross-species infection highlights the importance of developing a powerful animal model to evaluate the antibodies and antiviral drugs. We acquired the mouse-adapted strain of a bat-origin coronavirus named SMA1901 by natural serial passaging of rRsSHC014S in BALB/c mice. The SMA1901 infection caused interstitial pneumonia and inflammatory immune responses in both young and aged BALB/c mice after intranasal inoculation. Our model exhibited age-related mortality similar to SARS and COVID-19. Therefore, our model will be of high value for investigating the pathogenesis of bat SARSr-CoVs and could serve as a prospective test platform for prophylactic and therapeutic candidates.

BACKGROUND: The mechanism underlying the formation of gastric tumor deposits (TDs) is unclear. We aimed to explore the risk factors for the formation and prognostic value of TDs. METHODS: This retrospective analysis included 781 locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC) patients from four medical institutions in China, from June 2014 to June 2018. The risk factors for TD formation and prognostic value were determined through univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS: Univariate analysis revealed that TD positivity was closely related to tumor diameter, Borrmann classification, differentiation degree, pT stage, pN stage, pTNM stage, and nerve and vascular invasion (p < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression revealed that tumor diameter ≥ 5 cm (odds ratio [OR] 1.836, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.165-2.894, p = 0.009) and vascular invasion (OR 2.152, 95% CI 1.349-3.433, p = 0.001) were independent risk factors for TD positivity. Multivariate Cox analysis revealed that TD positivity (OR 1.533, 95% CI 1.101-2.134, p = 0.011), tumor diameter ≥ 5 cm (OR 1.831, 95% CI 1.319-2.541, p < 0.001), pT4a stage (OR 1.652, 95% CI 1.144-2.386, p = 0.007), and vascular invasion (OR 1.458, 95% CI 1.059-2.008, p = 0.021) were independent risk factors for GC prognosis. The 5-year overall and disease-free survival of the TD-positive group showed significant effects among patients in the pT4a and pN3b stages (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: TDs are closely related to tumor diameter and vascular invasion in LAGC patients, and TD positivity is an independent prognostic factor for LAGC patients, especially those at pT4a and pN3b stages.

Recent studies based on animal models of various neurological disorders have indicated that mitophagy, a selective autophagy that eliminates damaged and superfluous mitochondria through autophagic degradation, may be involved in various neurological diseases. As an important mechanism of cellular stress response, much less is known about the role of mitophagy in stress-related mood disorders. Here, we found that tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), an inflammation cytokine that plays a particular role in stress responses, impaired the mitophagy in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) via triggering degradation of an outer mitochondrial membrane protein, NIP3-like protein X (NIX). The deficits in the NIX-mediated mitophagy by TNF-α led to the accumulation of damaged mitochondria, which triggered synaptic defects and behavioral abnormalities. Genetic ablation of NIX in the excitatory neurons of mPFC caused passive coping behaviors to stress, and overexpression of NIX in the mPFC improved TNF-α-induced synaptic and behavioral abnormalities. Notably, ketamine, a rapid on-set and long-lasting antidepressant, reversed the TNF-α-induced behavioral abnormalities through activation of NIX-mediated mitophagy. Furthermore, the downregulation of NIX level was also observed in the blood of major depressive disorder patients and the mPFC tissue of animal models. Infliximab, a clinically used TNF-α antagonist, alleviated both chronic stress- and inflammation-induced behavioral abnormalities via restoring NIX level. Taken together, these results suggest that NIX-mediated mitophagy links inflammation signaling to passive coping behaviors to stress, which underlies the pathophysiology of stress-related emotional disorders.

OBJECTIVE: Uptake of the imaging tracers [18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04 and [18F]FDG varies in some inflammatory lesions, which may result in false-positive findings for malignancy on PET/CT. Our aim was to compare the [18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04 and [18F]FDG PET/CT imaging features of malignant and various inflammatory lung lesions and to analyze their value for differential diagnosis. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed [18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04 PET/CT scans from 67 cancer patients taken between December 2020 and January 2022, as well as the scans of 32 patients who also underwent [18F]FDG PET/CT imaging. The maximum and mean standardized uptake values (SUVmax and SUVmean, respectively) and lesion-to-background ratio (LBR) were calculated. The predictive capabilities of semiquantitative PET/CT parameters were analyzed by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. RESULTS: A total of 70 inflammatory and 37 malignant lung lesions were evaluated by [18F]AlF­NOTA­FAPI­04 PET/CT, and 33 inflammatory and 26 malignant lung lesions also were evaluated by [18F]FDG PET/CT. Inflammatory lesions exhibited lower [18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04 and [18F]FDG uptake compared to malignant lesions, with statistically significant differences in SUVmax, SUVmean, and LBR (all p < 0.001). [18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04 uptake also varied among different types of inflammatory lesions (SUVmax, p = 0.005; SUVmean, p = 0.008; LBR, p < 0.001), with the highest uptake observed in bronchiectasis with infection, followed by postobstructive pneumonia, and the lowest in pneumonia. [18F]FDG uptake was higher in postobstructive pneumonia than in pneumonia (SUVmax, p = 0.009; SUVmean, p = 0.016; LBR, p = 0.004). CONCLUSION: [18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04/[18F]FDG PET/CT showed significantly lower uptake in inflammatory lesions than malignancies as well as variation in different types of inflammatory lesions, and thus, may be valuable for distinguishing malignant and various inflammatory findings. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Our study confirmed that the uptake of [18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04/[18F]FDG PET/CT in inflammatory and malignant lung lesions is different, which is beneficial to distinguish inflammatory and malignant lung lesions in clinic. KEY POINTS: • Malignant and different inflammatory lung lesions showed varying degrees of uptake of [18F]AlF-NOTA-FAPI-04 and [18F]FDG. • Inflammatory lung lesions showed significantly less uptake than malignancies, and uptake varied among different types of inflammatory lesions. • Both types of PET/CT could differentiate malignant and various inflammatory lung findings.

RESUMO

We herein report an efficient photoredox radical cyclization reaction of o-vinylaryl isocyanides with acyl chlorides to access a wide range of 2,4-disubstituted quinolines. Preliminary mechanism experiment results suggested that this reaction was initiated by an acyl radical generated from acyl chlorides through a single-electron-transfer (SET) process. This transformation showed good substrate suitability and functional group compatibility at room temperature.

RESUMO

A visible-light-induced radical cyclization reaction of o-vinylaryl isocyanides and oxime esters to access various 2,4-disubstituted quinolines was disclosed. Oxime esters were employed as acyl radical precursors via the carbon-carbon bond cleavage. It provided an effective way for the synthesis of 2-acyl-4-arlysubstituted quinolines under mild conditions and exhibited good functional group tolerance and substrate applicability.

In order to evaluate the impact of salinity gradients on the aniline biodegradation system, six reactors at salinity concentrations (0%-5%) were established. The results presented the salinity except for 5% imposed negligible effects on aniline degradation performance. Nitrification had prominent resistance to salinity (0%-1.5%) while were significantly restrained when salinity increased. The total nitrogen (TN) removal efficiency of Z4 (1.5%) was 20.5% higher than Z1 (0%) during the stable operation phase. Moreover, high throughput sequencing analysis showed that halophilic bacterium, such as Halomonas, Rhodococcus, remained greater survival advantages in high salinity system. The substantial enrichment of Flavobacterium, Dokdonella, Paracoccus observed in Z4 ensured its excellent nitrogen removal performance. The close cooperation among dominant functional bacteria was strengthened when salt content was below 1.5% while exceeding 1.5% led to the collapse of metabolic capacity through integrating the toxicity of aniline and high osmotic pressure.

Pulchinenoside B4, a natural saponin monomer from the Pulsatilla plant, plays an important role as an immunomodulator in the treatment of acute inflammation. Oral ulcer (OU) is a common ulcerative injury disease that occurs in the oral mucosa, including mucosal ulceration and abnormalities of lips and tongue. A close correlation exists between gut microbiota and circulating metabolites in patients with OU. However, the correlation between gut microbiota and serum metabolomics is not clear. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the changes in gut microbiota and metabolites in OU. The 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene sequencing was used to detect the changes in the composition of gut microbiota in OU rat model. Moreover, the endogenous small metabolites were explored by collecting the non-targeted serum metabolomics data. A total of 34 OU-related biomarkers were identified, mainly related to fatty acid metabolism and inflammatory pathways. The administration of B4 effectively reduced the occurrence of OU and restored the levels of multiple endogenous biomarkers and key gut microbial species to the normal level. This study demonstrated that the gut microbiota and metabolites were altered in the OU rat model, which were significantly restored to the normal level by B4, thereby showing good application prospects in the treatment of OU. KEY POINTS: • The first investigating the correlation between OU and gut microbiota. • A close correlation between metabolites and gut microbiota in OU disease was successfully identified. • Pulchinenoside B4 ameliorates oral ulcers in rats by modulating gut microbiota and metabolites.

Chronic wounds cause physical, psychological and economic damage to patients, while therapeutic choices are limited. ILK was reported to play key roles in both fibrosis and angiogenesis, which are two important factors during wound healing. However, the function of ILK during vascularization in wounds remains unclear. In our study, we found increased ILK expression in chronic wound tissues compared to adjacent tissue, as well as a positive relationship between ILK expression and microvessel density. Moreover, fibroblasts overexpressing ILK showed an enhanced ability to promote HUVEC migration and tube formation, during which PI3K/Akt, downstream of ILK, played key roles and VEGFA was the key cytokine. Considering the important function of ILK in wound healing and the lack of an ILK activator, we investigated microRNAs targeting ILK and found that miR-758-3p could target ILK to regulate its transcription. The inhibition of miR-758-3p increased ILK expression and sequentially upregulated VEGFA and activated angiogenesis in vivo and in vitro. Taken together, these results revealed that ILK played a key role in wound healing by regulating angiogenesis and that activating ILK by inhibiting miR-758-3p was an effective way to promote wound healing. Whether miR-758-3p/ILK signaling can be utilized as a therapeutic target for wound healing requires further investigation.

Hypoxia inducible factor-1(HIF-1), a heterodimeric transcription factor, is composed of two subunits (HIF-1α and HIF-1ß). It is considered as an important transcription factor for regulating oxygen changes in hypoxic environment, which can regulate the expression of various hypoxia-related target genes and play a role in acute and chronic hypoxia pulmonary vascular reactions. In this paper, the function and mechanism of HIF-1a expression and regulation in hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) were reviewed, and current candidate schemes for treating pulmonary hypertension by using HIF-1a as the target were introduced, so as to provide reference for studying the pathogenesis of HPH and screening effective treatment methods.

BACKGROUND: Normal hemoglobin is a tetrameric structure, consisting of two alpha-globin chains and two nonalpha (beta, gamma, delta) chains. Hemoglobinopathies occur when the presence of gene mutations affect the molecular structure or expression of the globin chains. METHODS: We reported the case of a 9-year-old Chinese girl who presented with abnormal low oxygen saturation values on pulse oximetry and no oximetry results were obtained during blood gas analysis (BGA). RESULTS: High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and capillary electrophoresis demonstrated that the presence of a low oxygen affinity hemoglobin variant, characterized as hemoglobin Titusville, was proven by gene sequencing. The patient's mother and aunt also carry the hemoglobin variant, representing the first Chinese family case reported. CONCLUSIONS: Hemoglobin Titusville is a rare genetic hemoglobin structural defect. early diagnosis can help patients and clinicians avoid unnecessary anxiety and costly or excessive clinical investigations.

BACKGROUND: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic spread rapidly with considerable morbidity nationwide since China's liberalization in December 2022. Our work has focused on identifying different predictive factors from the laboratory examination of critically ill patients, and forecasting the unfavorable outcome of critically ill patients with COVID-19 through a combined diagnosis of biological markers. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study at the Department of First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, China, from December 24, 2022, to January 10, 2023, where 434 critically ill patients who met the inclusion criteria were involved. Machine analysis was employed to search for the parameters with the highest predictive value to calculate COVID-19 mortality by exploiting 66 typical laboratory results. RESULTS: Combined diagnosis of serum albumin (ALB), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), direct bilirubin (Dbil), ferritin, pulse oxygen saturation (SpO2), and neutrophil count (NEUT#) was evaluated, and the result with the highest predictive value (NEUT#) was selected as the predictor for COVID-19 mortality with a sensitivity of 89.2% and a specificity of 77.4%. CONCLUSIONS: The increased levels of LDH, Dbil, ferritin, and NEUT#, along with lowered ALB and SpO2 levels are the most decisive variables for forecasting the mortality for COVID-19 according to our machine-learning-based model. The combined diagnosis could be used to improve further diagnostic performance.

The cryopreservation and transplantation of ovarian tissue underscore its paramount importance in safeguarding reproductive capacity and ameliorating reproductive disorders. However, challenges persist in ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation (OTC-T), including the risk of tissue damage and dysfunction. Consequently, there has been a compelling exploration into the realm of nanoregulators to refine and enhance these procedures. This review embarks on a meticulous examination of the intricate anatomical structure of the ovary and its microenvironment, thereby establishing a robust groundwork for the development of nanomodulators. It systematically categorizes nanoregulators and delves deeply into their functions and mechanisms, meticulously tailored for optimizing ovarian tissue cryopreservation and transplantation. Furthermore, the review imparts valuable insights into the practical applications and obstacles encountered in clinical settings associated with OTC-T. Moreover, the review advocates for the utilization of microbially derived nanomodulators as a potent therapeutic intervention in ovarian tissue cryopreservation. The progression of these approaches holds the promise of seamlessly integrating nanoregulators into OTC-T practices, thereby heralding a new era of expansive applications and auspicious prospects in this pivotal domain.

This study aims to elucidate the role and mechanisms of Death Receptor 6 (DR6), a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, in the malignant progression of colorectal cancer (CRC). The association of DR6 expression levels and CRC patient survival was examined using the CRC cohort data from GEPIA database. The functional role of DR6 in CRC cells was investigated by performing loss-of-function and gain-of-function experiments based on CCK-8 proliferation assay, transwell migration and invasion assay, and sphere-forming assays. Xenograft model of CRC cells in nude mouse was established to evaluate the impact of DR6 knockdown on CRC tumorigenesis. Elevated expression of DR6 was correlated with an unfavorable prognosis in CRC patients. In vitro functional assays demonstrated that silencing DR6 considerably suppressed the proliferation, migration, invasion, and stemness of CRC cells, whereas its overexpression showed an opposite effect. DR6 knockdown also attenuated tumor formation of CRC cells in the nude mice. Mechanistically, silencing DR6 reduced the phosphorylation of AKT and NF-κB in CRC cells, and the treatment with an AKT activator (SC79) abrogated the inhibitory effects of DR6 knockdown on the malignant features of CRC cells. Our data suggest that DR6 contributes to the malignant progression of CRC by activating AKT/NF-κB pathway, indicating its clinical potential as a prognostic marker and therapeutic target for CRC.

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthropathy is one of the most common degenerative joint diseases in the elderly, total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the most commonly used treatment for end-stage knee osteoarthropathy. Negative emotions such as anxiety have been extensively documented in knee osteoarthropathy patients. AIM: This study aimed to investigate the Emotional Contagion during hospitalization in patients undergoing TKA. METHODS: Eligible subjects were divided into three case groups according to their anxiety states and bed arrangement. All subjects underwent a unilateral, cemented TKA under general anesthesia. Post-operative recovery outcomes including pain, pain behavior and physical function were recorded pre-operation, 1-day, 1 week, 2-weeks, 1-month and 3-months post-operation. RESULTS: A total of 38 subjects were included in the final analysis. Subjects with anxiety had higher Visual Analogue Scale pain scores, PROMIS-Pain Behavior scores than subjects without anxiety in the Contagion Group preoperation (p ≤ .05). Non-anxiety subjects hospitalized in beds physically adjacent to anxiety subjects experienced more severe pain and poorer function (p ≤ .05). After discharge, all clinical outcomes gradually became lower than anxiety subjects in the Contagion Group, reaching levels similar to non-anxiety subjects in the No Contagion Group within 1 month (p>.05). CONCLUSIONS: This study showed that patients with anxiety may have an "Adjacent Bed Effect" on patients with TKA in the adjacent bed, which may be associated with poorer postoperative recovery, including pain and physical function. We speculate this phenomenon can be effectively avoided by the nursing team through accurately assessing psychological status and reasonable bed arrangements in the inpatient assessment phase.
