RESUMO

Cu-based functional materials are excellent candidates for the elimination of iodine anions. However, the low utilization rate of Cu and its unsatisfactory adsorption performance limit its large-scale practical applications. This paper proposes a co-gelation method to obtain Cu/Al2O3 aerogels with a high specific area (537 m2/g). Cu/Al2O3 aerogels have a hierarchical porous structure and contain a high proportion of Cu (20.5 wt%). The high dispersibility of Cu, which is based on an in-situ gel process, provides conditions for the high-efficiency elimination of iodide anions. We conducted adsorption experiments that demonstrated that the fabricated Cu/Al2O3 aerogel had an ultrahigh adsorption capacity (407.6 mg/g) and a fast adsorption equilibrium time (0.5 h) for iodide anions. Additionally, the Cu/Al2O3 aerogel could selectively capture iodine anions even in the presence of high concentrations of competing ions (NO3-, SO42-, and Cl- at 60 mmol/L). Importantly, the aerogel can operate in a wide pH range of 3-11 without causing secondary pollution. This work demonstrates that low-cost Cu/Al2O3 aerogels exhibit great potential for eliminating radioactive iodine anions.

RESUMO

Particulate matter (PM) degrades air quality and negatively impacts human health. The spatial-temporal heterogeneity of PM (PM2.5 and PM10) concentration in Heilongjiang Province during 2014-2018 and the key impacting factors were investigated based on principal component analysis-based ordinary least square regression (PCA-OLS), PCA-based geographically weighted regression (PCA-GWR), PCA-based temporally weighted regression (PCA-TWR), and PCA-based geographically and temporally weighted regression (PCA-GTWR). Results showed that six principal components represented the temperature, wind speed, air pressure, atmospheric pollution, humidity, and vegetation cover factor, respectively, contributing 87% of original variables. All the local models (PCA-GWR, PCA-TWR, and PCA-GTWR) were superior to the global model (PCA-OLS), and PCA-GTWR has the best performance. PM had greater temporal than spatial heterogeneity due to seasonal periodicity. Air pollutants (i.e., SO2, NO2, and CO) and pressure were promoted whereas temperature, wind speed, and vegetation cover inhibited the PM concentration. The downward trend of annual PM concentration is obvious, especially after 2017, and the hot spot gradually changed from southwestern to southeastern cities. This study laid the foundation for precise local government prevention and control by addressing both excessive effect factors (i.e., meteorological factors, air pollutants, vegetation cover) and spatial-temporal heterogeneity of PM.

RESUMO

Clay-based aerogel is a promising material in the field of thermal insulation and flame retardant, but obtaining clay-based aerogel with high fire resistance, low thermal conductivity, hydrophobicity, and mechanical robustness remains a challenge. In this work, palygorskite-based aerogel was successfully fabricated via combining with a very small proportion of alginate to form a distinctive hierarchically meso-microporous structure. By employing ethanol solution (EA) replacement method and freeze-drying process, the resultant aerogel exhibited ultralow density (0.035-0.052 g/cm3), practical mechanical strengths (0.7-2.1 MPa), and low thermal conductivity of 0.0332-0.165 W/mK (25-1000 °C). The hydrophobicity of aerogel was achieved by simple chemical vapor deposition of methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS). The Pal-based aerogel showed good performance in both fire resistance with high limiting oxygen index up to 90%, and heat resistance with tolerance of flame up to 1000 °C for 10 min. This renewable Pal-based aerogel with a 3D framework is a promising material to be applied in fields of construction and aerospace for thermal insulation and high fire resistance.

RESUMO

Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) and its metabolite aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) are well-known carcinogens for humans and animals health. In this study, an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography linked with fluorescence detection (UPLC-FLD) method was optimized and validated. In addition, we investigated for the first time, the influence of curcumin on residue depletion of AFB1 and AFM1 in liver, kidney, and muscle tissues of broiler chickens and estimated a necessary clearance time required for AFB1 and AFM1 residues. The results showed that the average recoveries of AFB1 varied in liver, kidney, and muscles between 82.32-85.56, 85.34-88.45, and 84.88-89.73% respectively, while the average recoveries of AFM1 in liver, kidney, and muscles varied between 92.17-95.03, 94.12-97.21, and 95.32-98.51%, respectively. The detection limit of aflatoxin B1 was 0.008 ng/ml, while for aflatoxin M1 was 0.003 ng/ml. The limit of quantification (LOQ) for AFB1 and AFM1 was 0.02 and 0.01 ng/ml, respectively. Clearance time for AFB1 and AFM1 residues were analyzed in two experimental groups of broilers. One group fed with dietary AFB1 (5.0 mg/kg feed) and other with curcumin+AFB1 diet (curcumin; 300 mg/kg feed, AFB1; 5.0 mg/kg feed). AFB1 and AFM1 residues clearance time was calculated based on LOQ using withdrawal time calculation software (WT1.4). Clearance time analyzed for AFB1 ranged from 11 to 19 days and for AFM1 ranged from 10 to 12 days at 95% confidence level. Interestingly, curcumin supplementation in the diet reduced the clearance time of AFM1 in liver and kidney but not in muscle tissues. Conclusively, the developed method can be appropriately used for the quality control testing of commercial broiler-meat processing companies, food manufacturers, and quality control laboratories.
