OBJECTIVES: CD25 (IL-2Rα) is one of IL-2 receptor's polypeptide subunits, and its soluble form is increased in patients with various inflammatory or autoimmune diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical correlation of serum soluble CD25 (sCD25) with interstitial lung disease (ILD) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. METHODS: 294 RA patients, including 72 in the discovery cohort (15 patients with ILD, 57 patients without ILD), 222 in the validation cohort (41 patients with ILD and 181 patients without ILD), and 58 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) scan provided evidence and patterns of RA-ILD. Serum sCD25 concentrations were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Clinical and laboratory data were recorded and the association with sCD25 was also analysed. RESULTS: In the discovery cohort, 16 RA-related molecules including cytokines, chemokines and functional soluble cell surface proteins were investigated. The results showed that sCD25 was significantly higher in RA-ILD than in RA-no-ILD group (p=0.004). ROC analysis also showed RA-ILD was discriminated with RA-no-ILD by sCD25 (AUC=0.695, 95% CI=0.541-0.849). Logistics regression demonstrated that sCD25 was one of the risk factors of RA-ILD. This result was further confirmed in validation cohort (p<0.001). According to the cut-off value in the discovery cohort, the sensitivity and specificity of sCD25 in RA-ILD were 51.2%, 77.3%, respectively. Compared with RA-no-ILD, serum level of sCD25 was also higher in different HRCT patterns including UIP, NSIP and RA-ILA. The ROC curves revealed sCD25 as diagnostic marker in UIP, NSIP and RA-ILA (with AUCs of 0.730, 0.761, and 0. 694, respectively, p<0.05). The result indicated that sCD25 was a biomarker for RA-ILD subtypes. Although sCD25 was not correlated with HRCT scores, it was significantly higher in consolidation pattern by HRCT. CONCLUSIONS: sCD25 was significantly elevated in RA-ILD (including UIP, NSIP and RA-ILA) compared to RA-no-ILD and HCs, which supports their value as a potential biomarker in RA-ILD screening and assessment.

The colonization of pathogenic microbes poses a significant clinical barrier that hinders the physiological wound-healing process. Addressing this challenge, we developed a novel wound dressing using a modified cotton gauze dressing coated with fucoidan and functionalized with silver nanoparticles (LB-Ag NPs-FN-OCG) for the rapid treatment of infected wounds. Firstly, phytochemical-capped LB-Ag NPs were synthesized and characterized using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and zeta potential analysis. Secondly, different concentrations of LB-Ag NPs (0.1%-1%) were functionalized into FN-OCG to identify appropriate concentrations that were non-toxic with superior antibacterial activities. Screening assays, including antibacterial, hemolysis, chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay, and cytotoxicity assay, revealed that LB-Ag NPs (0.5%)-FN-OCG were non-toxic and demonstrated greater efficiency in inhibiting bacterial pathogens (Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica, Staphylococcus aureus, and Listeria monocytogenes) and promoting fibroblast cell (NIH3T3) migration. In vivo assays revealed that LB-Ag NPs (0.5%)-FN-OCG treatment exhibited excellent wound healing activity (99.73 ± 0.01%) compared to other treatments by inhibiting bacterial colonization, maintaining the blood parameters, developing granulation tissue, new blood vessels, and collagen deposition. Overall, this study highlights that LB-Ag NPs (0.5%)-FN-OCG serve as a antibacterial wound dressing for infected wound healing applications.

A novel coupling process to replace the traditional multi-stage anammox process-sulfur autotrophic denitrification (SAD) coupled anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) system was designed, which solved problems of nitrate produced in anammox process and low nitrate conversion rate caused by nitrite accumulation in SAD process. Different filter structures (SAD filter and anammox granular sludge) were investigated to further explore the excellent performance of the novel integrated reactor. The results of sequential batch experiments indicated that nitrite accumulation occurred during SAD, which inhibited the conversion of nitrate to dinitrogen gas. When SAD filter and anammox granular sludge were added to packed bed reactor simultaneously, the nitrate removal rate increased by 37.21% and effluent nitrite concentration decreased by 100% compared to that achieved using SAD. The stratified filter structure solved groove flow. Different proportion influence of SAD filter and anammox granular sludge on the stratified filter structure was evaluated. More suitable ratio of SAD filter to anammox granular sludge was 2:1. Proteobacteria (57.26%), Bacteroidetes (20.12%) and Chloroflexi (9.95%) were the main phyla. The dominant genera of denitrification functional bacteria were Thiobacillus (39.80%), Chlorobaculum (3.99%), norank_f_PHOs-HE36 (2.90%) and Ignavibacterium (2.64%). The dominant genus of anammox bacterium was Candidatus_Kuenenia (3.05%).

Osteosarcoma (OS) is a malignant bone tumor that most commonly occurs in children and adolescents. OS patients have a poor prognosis, and 5-year survival rates have rarely improved significantly over the past few decades. OS prognosis may be related to the infiltration of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs). However, the role of proangiogenic macrophages, a subtype of TAMs, in OS prognosis has not been reported. In this study, seven subtypes of TAMs were identified from single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) data that we propose defining as proangiogenic TAMs (Angio-TAMs), interferon-primed TAMs (IFN-TAMs), inflammatory cytokine-enriched TAMs (Inflam-TAMs), immune regulatory TAMs (Reg-TAMs), lipid-associated TAMs (LA-TAMs), and resident-tissue macrophages like TAMs (RTM-TAMs) (containing two subcellular types). In the survival analysis of each macrophage subtype, it was found that patients with Angio-TAMs had the most significant difference in survival. Eight genes associated with Angio-TAMs were obtained by differential expression analysis, and these genes were built into a prognostic model using the LASSO algorithm. Clinical OS case samples were categorized into high-risk and low-risk subgroups using median risk scores. In comparison to the low-risk subgroup, the survival time of the high-risk subgroup was much shorter. Additional studies on immune cell infiltration and immune checkpoint molecule expression in the two risk subgroups were carried out. In immunotherapy response prediction, the Angio-TAM-associated gene risk signature was found to be negatively correlated with immune checkpoint responses. In addition, the associated enriched GO (Gene Ontology) and KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) pathways were mainly involved in the malignant progression of tumors. Recently, long persistent phosphors (LPPs) have attracted significant attention as promising candidates for biomedical applications. However, the serious decrease in luminescence intensity in tissue still remains a major challenge. Therefore, exploring more competitive LPPs and achieving reproducible tissue imaging is crucial. In this study, a new series of near-infrared (NIR) phosphors La3 Ga5 Sn1-x O14 :xCr3+ (x = 0.005-0.05) were synthesized using a high-temperature solid-state method. The as-synthesized samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction, diffuse/photoluminescence spectroscopy, fluorescence decay curves, and thermoluminescence spectroscopy. Upon excitation with ultraviolet light, strong emission bands were observed in the range 600-1200 nm with an optimal doping concentration of x = 0.02 mol. Moreover, La3 Ga5 SnO14 :Cr3+ exhibits persistent luminescence due to the presence of suitable energy traps, which prompted the phosphor to emit NIR light even after the removal of the excitation source.

BACKGROUND: Deviation and asymmetry relapse after secondary unilateral cleft rhinoplasty with septal extension graft is a common yet serious problem especially among Asian patients. Therefore, finding an effective approach to reduce deformity relapse remains a great challenge to plastic surgeons. METHODS: In this study, authors established finite element models to simulate different nasal cartilage-corrected options and different reinforcing strategies in secondary unilateral cleft rhinoplasty. A load of 0.01N was given to the nasal tip to simulate the soft tissue pressure, while two loads of 0.5N were separately given to the anterior and posterior part of the septal extension graft to simulate the rhinoplasty condition. Maximum deformations were evaluated to make stability judgments. RESULTS: The maximum deformation of different cartilage correction models in ascending order was: UCL deformity with septum correction, normal nasal cartilage, UCL nasal deformity, and UCL nasal deformity with lower lateral cartilage correction. When applied L-strut reinforcement graft was harvested from the perpendicular plate of the ethmoid bone, the maximum deformation of the models decreased significantly, and strong fixation of the septum could further enhance this decreasing effect. CONCLUSIONS: Correcting the septum and lower lateral cartilage together could improve the structural stability and symmetry in secondary unilateral cleft rhinoplasty. To keep the corrected septum stable and thus reduce deformity relapse, reinforcing the L-strut with perpendicular plate of ethmoid graft while strongly anchoring the septal cartilage to the anterior nasal spine was proved to be effective in both finite element analysis and clinical observation. BACKGROUND: The clinical efficacy and safety of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) treatment for COVID-19 remain controversial. This study aimed to map the current status and gaps of available evidence, and conduct a meta-analysis to further investigate the benefit of IVIg in COVID-19 patients. METHODS: Electronic databases were searched for systematic reviews/meta-analyses (SR/MAs), primary studies with control groups, reporting on the use of IVIg in patients with COVID-19. A random-effects meta-analysis with subgroup analyses regarding study design and patient disease severity was performed. Our outcomes of interest determined by the evidence mapping, were mortality, length of hospitalization (days), length of intensive care unit (ICU) stay (days), number of patients requiring mechanical ventilation, and adverse events. RESULTS: We included 34 studies (12 SR/MAs, 8 prospective and 14 retrospective studies). A total of 5571 hospitalized patients were involved in 22 primary studies. Random-effects meta-analyses of very low to moderate evidence showed that there was little or no difference between IVIg and standard care or placebo in reducing mortality (relative risk [RR] 0.91; 95% CI 0.78-1.06; risk difference [RD] 3.3% fewer), length of hospital (mean difference [MD] 0.37; 95% CI - 2.56, 3.31) and ICU (MD 0.36; 95% CI - 0.81, 1.53) stays, mechanical ventilation use (RR 0.92; 95% CI 0.68-1.24; RD 2.8% fewer), and adverse events (RR 0.98; 95% CI 0.84-1.14; RD 0.5% fewer) of patients with COVID-19. Sensitivity analysis using a fixed-effects model indicated that IVIg may reduce mortality (RR 0.76; 95% CI 0.60-0.97), and increase length of hospital stay (MD 0.68; 95% CI 0.09-1.28). CONCLUSION: Very low to moderate certainty of evidence indicated IVIg may not improve the clinical outcomes of hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Given the discrepancy between the random- and fixed-effects model results, further large-scale and well-designed RCTs are warranted.

PURPOSE: The clinical relevance and pathogenic role of gut microbiome in both myositis and its associated interstitial lung disease (ILD) are still unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of gut microbiome in myositis through comprehensive metagenomic-wide association studies (MWAS). METHODS: We conducted MWAS of the myositis gut microbiome in a Chinese cohort by using whole-genome shotgun sequencing of high depth, including 30 myositis patients and 31 healthy controls (HC). Among the myositis patients, 11 developed rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD) and 10 had chronic ILD (C-ILD). RESULTS: Analysis for overall distribution level of the bacteria showed Alistipes onderdonkii, Parabacteroides distasonis and Escherichia coli were upregulated, Lachnospiraceae bacterium GAM79, Roseburia intestinalis, and Akkermansia muciniphila were downregulated in patients with myositis compared to HC. Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, Parabacteroides distasonis and Escherichia coli were upregulated, Bacteroides A1C1 and Bacteroides xylanisolvens were downregulated in RP-ILD cases compared with C-ILD cases. A variety of biological pathways related to metabolism were enriched in the myositis and HC, RP-ILD and C-ILD comparison. And in the analyses for microbial contribution in metagenomic biological pathways, we have found that E. coli played an important role in the pathway expression in both myositis group and myositis-associated RP-ILD group. Anti-PL-12 antibody, anti-Ro-52 antibody, and anti-EJ antibody were found to have positive correlation with bacterial diversity (Shannon-wiener diversity index and Chao1, richness estimator) between myositis group and control groups. The combination of E. coli and R. intestinalis could distinguish myositis group from HC effectively. R. intestinalis can also be applied in the distinguishment of RP-ILD group vs. C-ILD group in myositis patients. CONCLUSION: Our MWAS study first revealed the link between gut microbiome and pathgenesis of myositis, which may help us understand the role of gut microbiome in the etiology of myositis and myositis-associated RP-ILD.

Efficient tuning of the polarity of photoactive nanomaterials is of great importance in improving the performance of photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing platforms. Herein, polarity of the Ag2S/AgInS2 heterojunction is converted by radical-induced positive feedback polydopamine (PDA) adhesion, which is further employed to develop a signal-switchable PEC biosensor. In the nanocomposites, Ag2S and AgInS2 achieve electron-hole separation, exhibiting a strong anodic PEC response. Under the irradiation of light, the Ag2S/AgInS2 heterojunction is able to produce superoxide radical and hydroxyl radical intermediate species, leading to the polymerization of dopamine (DA) and the subsequent adhesion of PDA onto the Ag2S/AgInS2 heterojunction (Ag2S/AgInS2@PDA). By constructing a new electron-transfer pathway with PDA, the polarity of the Ag2S/AgInS2 heterojunction is converted, and the PEC response changes from anodic to cathodic photocurrents. In addition, since the photoreduction activity of PDA is stronger than that of the Ag2S/AgInS2 heterojunction, more superoxide radical can be produced by Ag2S/AgInS2@PDA once PDA is generated, thereby promoting the generation of PDA. Consequently, a positive feedback mechanism is established to enhance the polarity conversion of the Ag2S/AgInS2 heterojunction and amplify the responding to DA. As a result, the bioanalytical method is capable of sensitively quantifying DA in 10 orders of magnitude with an ultralow limit of detection. Moreover, the applicability of this biosensor in real samples is identified by measuring DA in fetal bovine serum and compared with a commercial ELISA method. Overall, this work offers an alternative perspective for adjusting photogenerated carriers of nanomaterials and designing high-performance PEC biosensors.

Apatinib is a selective inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2. Despite encouraging anticancer activity in different cancer types, some patients may not benefit from apatinib treatment. Herein, we characterized genomic profiles in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients to explore predictive biomarkers of apatinib at molecular level. We retrospectively recruited 19 CRC patients receiving apatinib as third-line treatment. Tissue samples before apatinib treatment were collected and subjected to genomic profiling using a targeted sequencing panel covering 520 cancer-related genes. After apatinib treatment, the patients achieved an objective response rate of 21% (4/19) and disease control rate of 57.9% (11/19). The median progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival were 5 and 8.7 months, respectively. Genetic alterations were frequently identified in TP53 (95%), APC (53%), KRAS (53%) and PIK3CA (26%). Higher tumor mutation burden levels were significantly observed in patients harboring alterations in ERBB and RAS signaling pathways. Patients harboring FLT1 amplifications ( n = 3) showed significantly worse PFS than wild-type patients. Our study described molecular profiles in CRC patients receiving apatinib treatment and identified FLT1 amplification as a potential predictive biomarker for poor efficacy of apatinib. Further studies are warranted to validate the use of FLT1 amplification during apatinib treatment.

We investigated secondary organic aerosol (SOA) from ß-caryophyllene oxidation generated over a wide tropospheric temperature range (213-313 K) from ozonolysis. Positive matrix factorization (PMF) was used to deconvolute the desorption data (thermograms) of SOA products detected by a chemical ionization mass spectrometer (FIGAERO-CIMS). A nonmonotonic dependence of particle volatility (saturation concentration at 298 K, C298K*) on formation temperature (213-313 K) was observed, primarily due to temperature-dependent formation pathways of ß-caryophyllene oxidation products. The PMF analysis grouped detected ions into 11 compound groups (factors) with characteristic volatility. These compound groups act as indicators for the underlying SOA formation mechanisms. Their different temperature responses revealed that the relevant chemical pathways (e.g., autoxidation, oligomer formation, and isomer formation) had distinct optimal temperatures between 213 and 313 K, significantly beyond the effect of temperature-dependent partitioning. Furthermore, PMF-resolved volatility groups were compared with volatility basis set (VBS) distributions based on different vapor pressure estimation methods. The variation of the volatilities predicted by different methods is affected by highly oxygenated molecules, isomers, and thermal decomposition of oligomers with long carbon chains. This work distinguishes multiple isomers and identifies compound groups of varying volatilities, providing new insights into the temperature-dependent formation mechanisms of ß-caryophyllene-derived SOA particles.

The weak electron-hole separation ability and the more severe photocorrosion of CdS largely limit its hydrogen precipitation performance. In this study, CoP loading on the surface of CdS was utilized to form a type I heterojunction. The photocurrent density increased from 2 µA cm-2 to 20 µA cm-2. When the loading of CoP was 10%, the best photocatalytic performance reached 4.43 mmolg-1 h-1 under visible light, which was 20.1 times higher than that of CdS (0.22 mmolg-1 h-1). In addition, the loading of CoP solved the problem of CdS photocorrosion. After 5 cycles of simulated solar irradiation, the performance of 10% CoP/CdS remained at 93% of the initial test. This work provides new ideas for the design of low photocorrosion and high-performance catalysts.

Arsenic contamination of groundwater is becoming a major global issue as it can severely affect the safety of drinking water and human health. In this paper, 448 water samples were investigated to study the spatiotemporal distribution, source identification and human health risk of groundwater arsenic pollution in the central Yinchuan basin by applying a hydrochemical and isotopic approach. The results showed that arsenic concentrations in groundwater ranged from 0.7 µg/L to 26 µg/L with a mean of 2.19 µg/L, and 5.9% of samples were above 5 µg/L, indicating the arsenic pollution of groundwater in the study area. High arsenic groundwater was mainly distributed in the northern and eastern areas along the Yellow river. The main hydrochemistry type of high arsenic groundwater was HCO3·SO4-Na·Mg, and the dissolution of arsenic-bearing minerals in sediment, irrigation water infiltration and aquifer recharge from the Yellow river were the main sources of arsenic in groundwater. The arsenic enrichment was dominantly controlled by the TMn redox reaction and the competitive adsorption of HCO3-, and the influence of anthropogenic activities was limited. The health risk assessment suggested that the carcinogenic risk of As for children and adults greatly exceeded the acceptable risk threshold of 1E-6, displaying a high carcer risk, while the non-carcinogenic risks of As, F-, TFe, TMn and NO3- in 2019 were largely higher than the acceptable risk threshold (HQ > 1). The present study provides insight into the occurrence, hydrochemical processes and potential health risk of arsenic pollution in groundwater.

BACKGROUND: Bipolar clavicle injury is a rare injury involving any combination of dislocation and/or fracture at both ends of the clavicle. Most reports of bipolar clavicle injury have been based on a single case, and treatment of this injury remains controversial. The present study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of surgical management with internal plating for bipolar clavicle injuries. METHODS: We performed internal plating to treat seven consecutive bipolar clavicle injuries with different injury patterns from May 2013 to June 2021. A clavicle hook plate was used for five sternoclavicular joint injuries (including a revision surgery) and three acromioclavicular joint dislocations, a T plate was used for one sternoclavicular joint injury, and an anatomic plate was used for one distal clavicle fracture. At follow-up, radiographs were assessed for bone alignment, joint congruity, fracture union or malunion, and implant failure or migration. Clinical evaluation included determination of the Disability of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) score; Constant-Murley score; visual analog scale (VAS) score; and complications. RESULTS: The patients were regularly followed up after the operation, and functional parameters were assessed over time. At a mean follow-up of 28.1 ± 22.0 months, each fracture had solid bone union, and each dislocation showed no sign of recurrent instability. The mean shoulder forward flexion was 159.3° ± 7.9°, and the mean DASH score was 8.8 ± 5.1. The mean Constant-Murley score was 88.9 ± 7.9, with six cases assessed as excellent and one case assessed as good. The mean VAS score was 1.0 ± 1.5, and the mean patient satisfaction score was 9.3 ± 0.8. No complications occurred, and each patient was able to resume their preinjury daily activity and was highly satisfied with their treatment. CONCLUSIONS: In the present study, internal plating for bipolar clavicle injury allowed early mobilization and resulted in good joint function. We recommend fixation of the more severely affected side first because the other side may be passively reduced and acquire stability once the more severely affected side has been fixed. Internal fixation of the other end may therefore be unnecessary unless residual instability exists.

Molecular resonance can be strengthened by charge transfer, profiting chemical mechanism (CM)-related surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). Herein a supramolecular assembly enabled SERS system is established by functionalizing para-sulfonatocalix[4]arene (pSC4) onto Au3Cu nanocrystals (NCs). Due to the cooperation of Au and Cu, pSC4 is directionally assembled on the surface of Au3Cu NCs via van der Waals force, enabling photoinduced and hydrogen bond-induced charge transfer, which remarkably enhances the Raman scattering of methylene blue (MB) captured by pSC4. In particular, for the C-N and C-C stretching of MB, the contributions of resonance Raman scattering increase up to 80%. In addition, the SERS system is able to display affinities of different host-guest interactions, and further employed to evaluate effects of drugs for Alzheimer's disease. In this work, charge transfer is realized by performing supramolecular assembly on the surface of plasmonic nanomaterials, providing an avenue to design CM-related and reporter-tunable SERS systems.

African swine fever (ASF) is a severe disease affecting pigs with high economic losses and endemicity in various parts of the world. So, it represents a serious threat to the global food safety. The disease was discovered in sub-Saharan Africa where still endemic, and first case was recorded in Kenya in 1921. It is now found all over the world; in Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific it already affects more than 50 countries including Republic of Korea, China, Malaysia, Germany, Bhutan, and India. The P72 protein encoded by the B646L gene is the major protein that reveals high reactogenicity and antigenicity. While the P54 plays a significant role in virus pathogenesis especially cell apoptosis. Multiple virus proteins can suppress the apoptosis of the infected cell at an early stage. The disease spreads through contact with the diseased cases, contaminated fomites, and tick bites. Meanwhile, contaminated water sources might be an essential source of infection. The recovered animals have a significant role in disease persistence as silent carriers. Multiple factors might lead to the observed disease seasonality. Route of exposure, infectious dose, and herd immunity are the main determinants of disease severity and clinical signs. The several types of PCR are well-accepted standard tests for early diagnosis. Although commercial ELISAs were stipulated by OIE, it should be combined with some other virology inspections or serological assays. The ASFV-free countries should be protected against the virus entrance especially that all developed vaccines failed to provoke enough immunity status against the challenged virus. Moreover, it accelerates the speed of revealing clinical symptoms.

Groundwater is a very important natural resource for humanity, however, the degradation of groundwater quality caused by anthropogenic activities may pose a serious hazard to human health and ecosystem. In this study, 143 groundwater samples were analyzed to investigate the spatiotemporal variations of hydrochemistry, groundwater quality and potential human health risk of groundwater in Jinghe River Basin, Chinese Loess Plateau. Based on the mean concentrations value (MCV) and over-standard rate (OSR), the groundwater in Jinghe River Basin were divided into three groups: Group Ⅰ (high MCV: greater than standard values and high OSR: ≥ 10 %) contains TDS (total dissolved solids), TH (total harness), SO42-, F- and Fe; Group Ⅱ (low MCV and high OSR) contains pH, Cl-, NO3-, Cr6+ and As, Group Ⅲ (low MCV and low OSR) contains NO2-, NH4+, Zn, Mn, Pb, I- and Cd. The results of set pair assessment indicated that the unsuitable and doubtful class of comprehensive groundwater quality are mainly distributed in the northern part of study area, accounting for 29 % and 13.6 % of the area in 2004 and 2015, respectively. Human health risk assessment based on the triangular fuzzy number suggested that the variation of risk levels in different age groups is Children > Adult Men > Adult Women. Average carcinogenic risks of As in groundwater for the three groups exceed the acceptable level, and non-carcinogenic risk of NO3- for Children is higher than the acceptable threshold. The findings of this study provide valuable insight into the spatiotemporal characteristics of groundwater quality and potential health risks of polluted groundwater by anthropogenic activities.

Carrier generation and migration are both pivotal to photoelectric (PE) response. Formation of a Schottky contact is conducive to promote carrier migration but cannot fundamentally magnify carrier generation, limiting the eventual PE performance. In this work, an Au@Ag/AgI Schottky contact is established by in situ growth of AgI nanotriangles on the surface of Au@Ag nanoparticles (NPs), and PE enhancement of the Schottky contact is realized by regulating localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) properties. In comparison with Ag/AgI Schottky contact, assembly of Au NPs in the center of Ag NPs adjusts the dominated LSPR property from hot-electron transfer (HET) to plasmon-induced resonance energy transfer (PIRET). With the concurrent manipulation of HET and PIRET, additional energy can be employed for carrier generation, while photogenerated electrons offset by hot electrons are reduced, which jointly enlarges PE responses of the Au@Ag/AgI Schottky contact up to 4 times. Benefitted from the etching of thiols to Ag-based materials, the Au@Ag/AgI Schottky contact is further applied to the construction of a photoelectrochemical cysteine sensor. This work proposes a general strategy to enhance PE responses of Schottky contacts, which may advance the design of LSPR-related PE systems.

BACKGROUND: This study was performed to evaluate the diagnostic and prognostic value, as well as the role of long-chain noncoding RNA (lncRNA) colorectal neoplasia differentially expressed (CRNDE) in osteosarcoma (OS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction assay was to determine lncRNA CRNDE and microRNA-335-3p (miR-335-3p) expressions. The Kaplan-Meier analysis was to analyze the relationship between lncRNA CRNDE expression and survival in patients with OS. Receiver operating characteristic curves were to evaluate the diagnostic value of lncRNA CRNDE in OS. Bioinformatics analysis and luciferase reporter assays were used to predict and confirm the relationship between lncRNA CRNDE and miR-335-3p. Cell counting Kit-8 and transwell migration assays assessed the role of lncRNA CRNDE and miR-335-3p in OS cells. RESULTS: lncRNA CRNDE expression was upregulated and miR-355-3p expression was downregulated in OS. In patients with OS, low lncRNA CRNDE expression demonstrated higher overall survival, whereas high lncRNA CRNDE expression was an independent poor prognostic factor. Furthermore, increased lncRNA CRNDE expression was associated with distant metastasis and the tumor-node-metastasis stage in patients with OS, which can be considered as an independent diagnostic biomarker in OS. We revealed that miR-335-3p was the target of lncRNA CRNDE. It also demonstrated that knockdown of lncRNA CRNDE inhibited OS cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and inhibition of miR-355-3p promoted this effect. Finally, miR-335-3p partially mediated the stimulatory effects of lncRNA CRNDE in OS. CONCLUSION: We demonstrated that lncRNA CRNDE is a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for OS, and the lncRNA CRNDE/miR-335-3p axis participates in OS progression.

As a key part of Bohai New Area development, Haixing County has been undergoing rapid development. In order to estimate potential risks of chemical parameters to human health of local residents, carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic risks via direct ingestion of drinking water were calculated using human health risk assessment (HHRS) based on triangular fuzzy number. The levels of pH, total dissolved solids, total harness, SO4 2-, Na+, Cl-, SO4 2-, F-, Fe (total iron), NO3 -, and NO2 - were more or less higher than the permissible limits except parameters As and Mn. The analysis results show that risk level for different crowds in the study area demonstrated an obvious variation, generally in the order of infants > children > adult males > adult females for non-carcinogenic risk values (R n), while the sequence of the carcinogenic risk values (R c) are adult males > adult females > children > infants. When the confidence level was 0.8, the non-carcinogenic risk values (R n) through drinking water intake were higher than 1, and this implied that potential health impacts on human health for local residents. However, the risks of carcinogenic risk values (R c) were lower than 1.0E-4, demonstrating minimal and acceptable health risk. Furthermore, according to the middle values (α = 1) of R n, the total non-carcinogenic risks for local residents were obtained in the following order: GW (Gaowan Town) > XJ (Xinji-Xiangfang County) > ZM (Zhaomaotao County) > HX (Haixing-Suji Town) > ZH (Zhanghuiting County) > XS (Xiaoshan County), and ZM > XJ > GW > HX > XS > ZH for R c. It was also found that the spatial distribution of fluoride level in drinking water is urgently needed to be identified. In conclusion, the potential health risks to residents should cause enough attention both from society and the academic community.
