RESUMO

BACKGROUND: A thorough understanding of lameness prevalence is essential for evaluating the impact of this condition on the dairy industry and assessing the effectiveness of preventive strategies designed to minimize its occurrence. Therefore, this cross-sectional study aimed to ascertain the prevalence of lameness and identify potential risk factors associated with lameness in Holstein Friesian crossbred cows across both commercial and smallholder dairy production systems in Bengaluru Rural District of Karnataka, India. METHODS: The research encompassed six commercial dairy farms and 139 smallholder dairy farms, involving a total of 617 Holstein Friesian crossbred cattle. On-site surveys were conducted at the farms, employing a meticulously designed questionnaire. Lameness in dairy cattle was assessed subjectively using a locomotion scoring system. Both bivariate and binary logistic regression models were employed for risk assessment, while principal components analysis (PCA) was conducted to address the high dimensionality of the data and capture the underlying structure of the explanatory variables. RESULTS: The overall lameness prevalence of 21.9% in commercial dairy farms and 4.6% in smallholder dairy farms. Various factors such as age, body weight, parity, body condition score (BCS), floor type, hock and knee injuries, animal hygiene, provision of hoof trimming, and the presence of hoof lesions were found to be significantly associated with lameness. Binary logistic regression analysis indicated that the odds of lameness in crossbred cows increased with higher parity, decreased BCS, presence of hard flooring, poor animal hygiene, and the existence of hoof lesions. These factors were identified as potential risk factors for lameness in dairy cows. Principal component analysis unveiled five components explaining 71.32% of the total variance in commercial farms and 61.21% in smallholder dairy farms. The extracted components demonstrated higher loadings of housing and management factors (such as hoof trimming and provision of footbath) and animal-level factors (including parity, age, and BCS) in relation to lameness in dairy cows. CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that principal component analysis effectively reduces the dimensionality of risk factors. Addressing these identified risk factors for lameness is crucial for the strategic management of lameness in dairy cows. Future research in India should investigate the effectiveness of management interventions targeted at the identified risk factors in preventing lameness in dairy cattle across diverse environments.

RESUMO

Rational design and precise synthesis of biogenic noble-metal-based catalysts possessing distinctive structure and composition play a crucial role in the chemical industry, enabling sustainable construction of an inclusive range of chemical resources. In this study, we have effectively fabricated Pd@A-CQDs through a straightforward one-pot aqueous protocol assisted by visible light employing renewable biomass-derived amine-rich carbon quantum dots (A-CQDs). The remarkable visible light harnessing capability (bandgap, ca. 2.81 eV), high density (35.7 × 1018 cm-3), and long lifetime (25 ps) of photocharge carriers and amine-rich surface in A-CQDs make them ideal candidates as both reducing and stabilizing agents, thereby facilitating the in situ construction of metallic Pd(0) nanoparticles. Comprehensive physicochemical characterizations have provided compelling evidence for the spherical morphology of Pd@A-CQDs core-shell nanostructures, with ultrathin A-CQDs shells of ca. 1.9 nm and an average diameter of 14 ± 1 nm. The effectiveness of the synthesized Pd@A-CQDs catalysts was assessed in the ligand- and base-free homocoupling reaction of arylboronic acids in water at ambient temperature. The catalytic tests demonstrated the selective production of the homocoupled compound over protodeboronation products with excellent yield and high catalyst recyclability under ambient conditions. The protocol employed exhibited a high TOF (1.05 × 10-2 mol g-1 min-1) and a low E-factor, with a remarkably low palladium loading. XPS analysis confirmed the retention of the metallic nature of the palladium core within the catalysts during the reaction. The catalytic function of the palladium core in conjunction with the A-CQDs shell, along with the promotional effects provided by water and oxygen for the formation of nucleophilic tetravalent boron, was conclusively recognized by 11B NMR and O2-TPD measurements. The obtained experimental results deliver valuable insights into the probable reaction pathway for the homocoupling reaction catalyzed by the Pd@A-CQDs catalysts. Through a comprehensive and sustainable evaluation, the current methodology exhibits superior performance compared to previously documented techniques in relation to estimated circularity and adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP).

RESUMO

The quest for intrinsically ferromagnetic topological materials is a focal point in the study of topological phases of matter, as intrinsic ferromagnetism plays a vital role in realizing exotic properties such as the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) in quasi-two-dimensional materials, and this stands out as one of the most pressing concerns within the field. Here, we investigate a novel higher order member of the MnSb2nTe3n+1family, MnSb12Te19, for the first time combining magnetotransport and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) measurements. Our magnetic susceptibility experiments identify ferromagnetic transitions at temperatureTc= 18.7 K, consistent with our heat capacity measurements (T= 18.8 K). The AHE is observed for the field along thec-axis belowTc. Our study of Shubinikov-de-Haas oscillations provides evidence for Dirac fermions withπBerry phase. Our comprehensive investigation reveals that MnSb12Te19exhibits a FM ground state along with AHE, and hole-dominated transport properties consistent with ARPES measurements.

RESUMO

Despite the fact that carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have significant catalytic potential, only emblematic applications that rely on simple acid-base or hydrogen-bonding activation pathways have been reported. In this study, natural amine-targeted CQDs (NAT-CQDs) have been successfully fabricated using a sustainable technique that harnesses a renewable green source. Based on a holistic sustainable assessment, the present approach for the synthesis of NAT-CQDs surpasses previously reported methods in terms of estimated circular and good-manufacturing-practice metrics. A set of spectroscopic and analytical techniques, including FTIR, XPS, conductometric assay, pH titration, 19FNMR, and 13CNMR confirms the presence of the assessable amino-rich groups (0.0083N) at the surface of NAT-CQDs. The occurrence of surface amine groups unlocked the molecular behavior of as-prepared NAT-CQDs and makes them an unprecedented nanoaminocatalytic platform for the synthesis of diverse pharmacophore scaffolds (>40 examples) via a one-pot Knoevenagel/(aza) Michael addition reaction in water at room temperature. The assessable amine group can covalently activate carbonyl groups through nucleophilic iminium activation modes in water and facilitate the ability to build valuable and therapeutic scaffolds on a gram scale. By transferring significant molecular primacy at the frontier of nanoscale materials, NAT-CQDs can thus bridge the gap between the nanoscale and molecular domains. This protocol can also be applied for the preparation of therapeutic anticoagulant drugs, warfarin, and coumachlor. All the reactions exhibited a high atom economy, low E-factor, low process mass intensity (PMI), high reaction mass efficiency (RME), high carbon efficiency (CE), and high catalyst reusability with overall high sustainable values. NAT-CQDs show high recyclability, and the spectral data of reused catalysts indicate that the NAT-CQDs maintained their surface chemistry and electronic properties, suggesting their stability under the tested conditions. This study presents a remarkable instance of NAT-CQDs showcasing covalent catalysis. Expanding on the aforementioned design concept, the utilization of NAT-CQDs' "potential" as distinct colloidal organocatalysts in aqueous environments at the molecular level introduces valuable prospects for aminocatalytic pathways.

RESUMO

The base-mediated anti-Markovnikov hydroamination of functionally varied styrenes with amino-substituted pyridine, quinoline, pyrimidine, pyrazine, and phenanthridine with excellent regioselectivity has been described. Double hydroamination was observed chemoselectively on the secondary amine, leaving the primary amine intact. Experimental evidence suggests that the proposed reaction involves the nucleophilic addition of the aminopyridyl radical onto vinyl arenes via a single electron transfer.

RESUMO

Aim: To evaluate the role of endocervicoscopy for the visualization of the T3 transformation zone (TZ) on colposcopy. Materials and Methods: Forty patients with either abnormal Pap smear or positive VIA-VILI and T3 TZ on colposcopy were recruited from the colposcopy clinic and subjected to endocervicoscopy with a 4-mm office hysteroscope. The view of the endocervical canal was recorded before and after the application of 5% acetic acid and the squamocolumnar junction was identified in its entirety. An endocervical curettage was taken in all the cases and compared with the final histopathology report. Results: Squamocolumnar junction was visible in all the 40 cases; however, in two patients (5%), cervical dilatation had to be done. The positive predictive value (PPV) of endocervicoscopy in our study was 33.3% and negative predictive value (NPV) was 100%. Dense acetowhitening/irregular polypoidal endocervical mucosa with dilated blood vessels was significant in predicting the premalignant and malignant lesions with PPV of 67% and NPV of 100%. Conclusion: Endocervicoscopy allows a panoramic view of the endocervical canal. It is a safe, effective, and feasible technique for visualization of squamocolumnar junction with 5% acetic acid in cases of T3 TZ on colposcopy.

RESUMO

Fistula in ano is mostnotorious disease among all the ano-rectal disorders since antiquity. Over the past few decades, various techniques are being evaluated in terms to prevent its recurrence and complications, but despite more than two millennia of efforts, fistula in ano still remains a perplexing surgical disease. The sign and symptoms of fistula in ano resembles with Bhagandara described in Ayurveda classics. For the management of this painful disease many treatment modalities are enumerated in Ayurveda classics and Ksharsutra therapy is one among them which is proved to be gold standard. Though Ksharsutra therapy is big revolution in the field of fistula in ano, but it has some disadvantages like it is time consuming process, severe post-procedural pain, big scar mark. So, in present era IFTAK is emerging as an advanced innovative technique for the management of fistula in ano along with betterment in the consequences of conventional method of Ksharsutra therapy. In the present case report, IFTAK (Interception of Fistulous tract and application of Ksharsutra) technique is used in trans sphincteric fistula in ano which showed a great potential in management by minimizing the duration of treatment, mild post procedural pain and minimum scar mark.

RESUMO

We investigated a base-promoted protocol for the intermolecular anti-Markovnikov hydroamidation of vinyl arenes with arylamides to furnish the arylethylbenzamides with excellent chemo- and regioselectivity. The reaction tolerates an extensive variety of functional groups and has been successfully extended with electronically varied handles, aminobenzamides, electron-rich/electron-deficient heterocyclic amides, and vinyl arenes to afford the hydroamidated products. Excellent chemoselectivity was observed for the amide group over amine. The proposed mechanism and vital role of the solvent was well supported by deuterium labeling studies and control experiments.
