BACKGROUND: In patients with coronary artery disease treated with permanent polymer-coated drug-eluting stents (DES), the persistent presence of a less biocompatible polymer might delay arterial healing. Thin strut polymer-free DES have the potential to improve clinical outcomes and reduce the duration of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). The purpose of this first-in-human study was to assess the safety and effectiveness of a novel polymer-free DES in patients with de novo coronary lesions. The TIGERevolutioN® stent (CG Bio Co., Ltd., Seoul, Korea) consists of a cobalt chromium platform with a strut thickness of 70 µm and a surface treated with titanium dioxide onto which everolimus-eluting stent (EES) is applied abluminally (6 µg/mm of stent length) without utilization of a polymer. METHODS: A total of 20 patients were enrolled, with de novo coronary lesions (stable or unstable angina) and > 50% diameter stenosis in a vessel 2.25 to 4.00 mm in diameter and ≤ 40 mm in length for angiographic, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and clinical assessment at 8 months. All patients received DAPT after stent implantation. The primary endpoint was angiographic in-stent late lumen loss (LLL) at 8 months. RESULTS: Twenty patients with 20 lesions were treated with TIGERevolutioN®. At 8 months, in-stent LLL was 0.7 ± 0.4 mm. On OCT, percent area stenosis was 29.2 ± 9.4% and stent strut coverage was complete in all lesions. No adverse cardiovascular event occurred at 8 months. CONCLUSION: The new polymer-free EES was safe and effective with low LLL and excellent strut coverage at 8 months of follow-up. Previous studies have revealed the medicinal and therapeutic effects of Galla chinensis. However, no studies have focused on the antihypertensive effects of G. chinensis. Therefore, we aimed to determine the vasorelaxant and hypotensive effects of G. chinensis 50% ethanolic extract (GCE). To evaluate the vascular relaxing effect of GCE, experiments were conducted using aortic segments dissected from Sprague Dawley rats. GCE showed a vasorelaxant effect via the nitric oxide/cyclic guanosine 3',5'-monophosphate pathway, inhibiting Ca2+ channels, and activating K+ channels. The hypotensive effects of GCE were evaluated in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). The SHRs were randomly divided into a control group and orally administered GCE group (100 or 300 mg/kg). The systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly by -19.47 ± 4.58% and -31.14 ± 7.66% in the GCE 100 mg/kg group, and -21.64 ± 2.40% and -31.91 ± 5.75% in the GCE 300 mg/kg group at 4 h after administration. Considering its vasorelaxant and hypotensive effects, our results indicate that GCE may be a valuable solution for the control of hypertension. However, further studies on the long-term administration and toxicity of GCE are required.

Torilis japonica (TJ) fruit, is a herb that is traditionally used for erectile dysfunction (ED). Given the shared mechanisms of ED and hypertension through vascular smooth muscle, we hypothesized that TJ would be effective in vasodilation and blood pressure reduction. This study confirmed the authenticity of TJ samples via DNA barcoding and quantified the main active compound, torilin, using HPLC. TJ was extracted with distilled water (TJW) and 50% ethanol (TJE), yielding torilin contents of 0.35 ± 0.01% and 2.84 ± 0.02%, respectively. Ex vivo tests on thoracic aortic rings from Sprague-Dawley rats showed that TJE (3-300 µg/mL) induced endothelium-independent, concentration-dependent vasodilation, unlike TJW. Torilin caused concentration-dependent relaxation with an EC50 of 210 ± 1.07 µM. TJE's effects were blocked by a voltage-dependent K+ channel blocker and alleviated contractions induced by CaCl2 and angiotensin II. TJE inhibited vascular contraction induced by phenylephrine or KCl via extracellular CaCl2 and enhanced inhibition with nifedipine, indicating involvement of voltage-dependent and receptor-operated Ca2+ channels. Oral administration of TJE (1000 mg/kg) significantly reduced blood pressure in spontaneously hypertensive rats. These findings suggest TJ extract's potential for hypertension treatment through vasorelaxant mechanisms, though further research is needed to confirm its efficacy and safety.

Cnidium monnieri (L.) Cusson, a member of the Apiaceae family, is rich in coumarins, such as imperatorin and osthole. Cnidium monnieri fruit (CM) has a broad range of therapeutic potential that can be used in anti-bacterial, anti-cancer, and sexual dysfunction treatments. However, its efficacy in lowering blood pressure through vasodilation remains unknown. This study aimed to assess the potential therapeutic effect of CM 50% ethanol extract (CME) on hypertension and the mechanism of its vasorelaxant effect. CME (1-30 µg/mL) showed a concentration-dependent vasorelaxation on constricted aortic rings in Sprague Dawley rats induced by phenylephrine via an endothelium-independent mechanism. The vasorelaxant effect of CME was inhibited by blockers of voltage-dependent and Ca2+-activated K+ channels. Additionally, CME inhibited the vascular contraction induced by angiotensin II and CaCl2. The main active compounds of CM, i.e., imperatorin (3-300 µM) and osthole (1-100 µM), showed a concentration-dependent vasorelaxation effect, with half-maximal effective concentration values of 9.14 ± 0.06 and 5.98 ± 0.06 µM, respectively. Orally administered CME significantly reduced the blood pressure of spontaneously hypertensive rats. Our research shows that CME is a promising treatment option for hypertension. However, further studies are required to fully elucidate its therapeutic potential.

Laboratory-scale data on a component level are frequently used for prognostics because acquiring them is time and cost efficient. However, they do not reflect actual field conditions. As prognostics is for an in-service system, the developed prognostic methods must be validated using real operational data obtained from an actual system. Because obtaining real operational data is much more expensive than obtaining test-level data, studies employing field data are scarce. In this study, a prognostic method for screws was presented by employing multi-source real operational data obtained from a micro-extrusion system. The analysis of real operational data is more challenging than that of test-level data because the mutual effect of each component in the system is chaotically reflected in the former. This paper presents a degradation feature extraction method for interpreting complex signals for a real extrusion system based on the physical and mechanical properties of the system as well as operational data. The data were analyzed based on general physical properties and the inferred interpretation was verified using the data. The extracted feature exhibits valid degradation behavior and is used to predict the remaining useful life of the screw in a real extrusion system.

This paper proposes fault diagnosis methods aimed at proactively preventing potential safety issues in robot systems, particularly human coexistence robots (HCRs) used in industrial environments. The data were collected from durability tests of the driving module for HCRs, gathering time-series vibration data until the module failed. In this study, to apply classification methods in the absence of post-failure data, the initial 50% of the collected data were designated as the normal section, and the data from the 10 h immediately preceding the failure were selected as the fault section. To generate additional data for the limited fault dataset, the Wasserstein generative adversarial networks with gradient penalty (WGAN-GP) model was utilized and residual connections were added to the generator to maintain the basic structure while preventing the loss of key features of the data. Considering that the performance of image encoding techniques varies depending on the dataset type, this study applied and compared five image encoding methods and four CNN models to facilitate the selection of the most suitable algorithm. The time-series data were converted into image data using image encoding techniques including recurrence plot, Gramian angular field, Markov transition field, spectrogram, and scalogram. These images were then applied to CNN models, including VGGNet, GoogleNet, ResNet, and DenseNet, to calculate the accuracy of fault diagnosis and compare the performance of each model. The experimental results demonstrated significant improvements in diagnostic accuracy when employing the WGAN-GP model to generate fault data, and among the image encoding techniques and convolutional neural network models, spectrogram and DenseNet exhibited superior performance, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of biodegradable polymer sirolimus and ascorbic acid eluting stent systems with four commercially available drug-eluting stents (DES). We investigated the characterization of mechanical properties by dimension, foreshortening, recoil, radial force, crossing profile, folding shape, trackability, and dislodgement force. Additionally, we identify the safety and efficacy evaluation through registry experiments. Each foreshortening and recoil of D + Storm® DES is 1.3 and 3.70%, which has better performance than other products. A post-marketing clinical study to evaluate the performance and safety of D + Storm® DES is ongoing in real-world clinical settings. Two hundred one patients were enrolled in this study and have now completed follow-up for up to 1 month. No major adverse cardiovascular event (MACE) occurred in any subjects, confirming the safety of D + Storm® DES in the clinical setting. An additional approximately 100 subjects will be enrolled in the study and the final safety profile will be assessed in 300 patients. In conclusion, this study reported the objective evaluation of DES performance and compared the mechanical responses of four types of DES available in the market. There is little difference between the four cardiovascular stents in terms of mechanical features, and it can help choose the most suitable stent in a specific clinical situation if those features are understood. In the wake of COVID-19, the digital fitness market combining health equipment and ICT technologies is experiencing unexpected high growth. A smart trampoline fitness system is a new representative home exercise equipment for muscle strengthening and rehabilitation exercises. Recognizing the motions of the user and evaluating user activity is critical for implementing its self-guided exercising system. This study aimed to estimate the three-dimensional positions of the user's foot using deep learning-based image processing algorithms for footprint shadow images acquired from the system. The proposed system comprises a jumping fitness trampoline; an upward-looking camera with a wide-angle and fish-eye lens; and an embedded board to process deep learning algorithms. Compared with our previous approach, which suffered from a geometric calibration process, a camera calibration method for highly distorted images, and algorithmic sensitivity to environmental changes such as illumination conditions, the proposed deep learning algorithm utilizes end-to-end learning without calibration. The network is configured with a modified Fast-RCNN based on ResNet-50, where the region proposal network is modified to process location regression different from box regression. To verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed algorithm, a series of experiments are performed using a prototype system with a robotic manipulator to handle a foot mockup. The three root mean square errors corresponding to X, Y, and Z directions were revealed to be 8.32, 15.14, and 4.05 mm, respectively. Thus, the system can be utilized for motion recognition and performance evaluation of jumping exercises.

BACKGROUND: Titanium dioxide films exhibit good biocompatibility and may be effective as drug-binding matrices for drug-eluting stents. We conducted a mid-term evaluation of a novel polymer-free everolimus-eluting stent using nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide film deposition (TIGEREVOLUTION®) in comparison with a commercial durable polymer everolimus-eluting stent (XIENCE Alpine®) in a porcine coronary restenosis model. METHODS: Twenty-eight coronary arteries from 14 mini-pigs were randomly allocated to TIGEREVOLUTION® stent and XIENCE Alpine® stent groups. The stents were implanted in the coronary artery at a 1.1-1.2:1 stent-to-artery ratio. Eleven stented coronary arteries in each group were finally analyzed using coronary angiography, optical coherence tomography, and histopathologic evaluation 6 months after stenting. RESULTS: Quantitative coronary analysis showed no significant differences in the pre-procedural, post-procedural, and 6-month lumen diameters between the groups. In the volumetric analysis of optical coherence tomography at 6 months, no significant differences were observed in stent volume, lumen volume, and percent area stenosis between the groups. There were no significant differences in injury score, inflammation score, or fibrin score between the groups, although the fibrin score was zero in the TIGEREVOLUTION® stent group (0 vs. 0.07 ± 0.11, P = 0.180). CONCLUSION: Preclinical evaluation, including optical coherence tomographic findings 6 months after stenting, demonstrated that the TIGEREVOLUTION® stent exhibited efficacy and safety comparable with the XIENCE Alpine® stent, supporting the need for further clinical studies on the TIGEREVOLUTION® stent.

The recognition capability of the identification system using Raman spectroscopy is increasing with the demands in the field. Among the various approaches that determine the identity of a target, signal correlation using a moving window is one of the most effective and intuitive methods. In this paper, we report a new correlation method that is robust to spectral intensity variations. Using the peak distribution of a given spectrum, this method adaptively determines meaningful spectral regions for the identification target. Three commercial Raman spectrometer and a 14 033 library were included in the study, which was used for a library-based chemical discrimination test and mixed material analysis experiments. According to the identification experimental results, the proposed method correctly identified all of the spectra and maintained a mean correlation score above 0.95 while maintaining the correlation score of nontarget materials as low as possible.

The major challenge of commercially available vascular substitutes comes from their limitations in terms of hydrophobic surface, which is hostile to cell growth. To date, tissue-engineered and synthetic grafts have not translated well to clinical trials when looking at small diameters. We conceptualized a cell-free structurally reinforced biodegradable vascular graft recapitulating the anisotropic feature of a native blood vessel. The nanofibrous scaffold is designed in such a way that it will gradually degrade systematically to yield a neo-vessel, facilitated by an immobilized bioactive molecule-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). The nano-topographic cue of the device is capable of direct host cell infiltration. We evaluated the burst pressure, histology, hemocompatibility, compression test, and mechanical analysis of the new graft. The graft implanted into the carotid artery of a porcine model demonstrated a good patency rate as early as two week post-implantation. This graft reinforced design approach when employed in vascular tissue engineering might strongly influencing regenerative medicine.

Context: Kochia scoparia (L.) Schrad (Amaranthaceae), known as a traditional medicine in China, Japan and Korea, is reported to have various biological activities. However, K. scoparia seed extract (KSE) functional roles on angiogenesis and prostate cancer inhibition have not been elucidated. Objective: This study elucidates the effects of KSE on vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-induced angiogenesis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and inhibition of proliferation in prostate cancer cells. Materials and methods: HUVECs were treated with 10-20 µg/mL of KSE and 20-50 ng/mL of VEGF for 12-72 h. Anti-angiogenesis properties of KSE were determined by wound healing, trans-well, tube formation, rat aortic ring assay and western blotting. Prostate cancer and normal cells were incubated with 10-250 µg/mL of KSE for 24 h, and cell viability was measured by SRB assay. Phenolic compounds in KSE were analyzed using a HPLC-PDA system. Results: IC50 for cell viability of HUVECs, LNCaP, PC-3, RC-58T and RWPE-1 by KSE were 30.64, 89.25, 123.41, 141.62 and >250 µg/mL, respectively. Treatment with KSE (20 µg/mL) significantly suppressed VEGF-induced migration, invasion and capillary-like structure formation of HUVECs and microvessel sprouting from rat aortic rings. In addition, KSE down-regulated PI3K/AKT/mTOR levels and phosphorylation of VEGF receptor 2 in HUVECs. 3-OH-tyrosol (1.63 mg/g) and morin hydrate (0.17 mg/g) were identified in KSE. Conclusions: KSE inhibits angiogenesis in HUVECs as well as proliferation in human prostate cancer cells, suggesting KSE may be useful herbal medicine for preventing progression of prostate cancer and angiogenesis.

BACKGROUND: Gallic acid (3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid) is a natural polyphenol and strong natural antioxidant found abundantly in red wine and green tea. The aim of this study was to examine the anti-inflammatory effect of a novel gallic acid-eluting stent in a porcine coronary restenosis model. METHODS: Fifteen pigs were randomized into three groups; in which a total of 30 coronary arteries (10 in each group) were implanted with gallic acid-eluting stents (GESs, n = 10), gallic acid and sirolimus-eluting stents (GSESs, n = 10), or sirolimus-eluting stents (SESs, n = 10). Histopathologic analysis was performed 28 days after stenting. RESULTS: There were no significant differences in injury score and fibrin score among the groups, however there were significant differences in the internal elastic lamina (4.0 ± 0.83 mm2 in GES vs. 3.0 ± 0.53 mm2 in GSES vs. 4.6 ± 1.43 mm2 in SES, p < 0.0001), lumen area (2.3 ± 0.49 mm2 in GES vs. 1.9 ± 0.67 mm2 in GSES vs. 2.9 ± 0.56 mm2 in SES, p < 0.0001), neointimal area (1.7 ± 0.63 mm2 in GES vs. 1.1 ± 0.28 mm2 in GSES vs. 1.7 ± 1.17 mm2 in SES, p < 0.05), and percent area of stenosis (42.4% ± 9.22% in GES vs. 38.2% ± 12.77% in GSES vs. 33.9% ± 15.64% in SES, p < 0.05). The inflammation score was significantly lower in the GES and GSES groups compared to that in the SES group [1.0 (range: 1.0 to 2.0) in GES vs. 1.0 (range: 1.0 to 1.0) in GSES vs. 1.5 (range: 1.0 to 3.0) in SES, p < 0.05]. CONCLUSIONS: The GES group had a greater percent area of stenosis than the SES group. Although gallic acid in the GES and GSES groups did not show a synergistic effect in suppressing neointimal hyperplasia, it resulted in greater inhibition of the inflammatory reaction in the porcine coronary restenosis model than in the SES group.

In this paper, we consider a novel method for identification of Raman spectra recorded on different instruments with different wavelengths. Since the conventional hit quality index (HQI) is vulnerable to intensity variation, it needs intensity calibration or standardization for each spectrometer, which causes additional time consuming work. To simplify this process and enhance the identification performance, we propose a new scoring method which is defined as the weighted sum of the HQIs from segmented spectra by windowing. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, the experiments were carried out with 10 kinds of chemicals with their spectra recorded on 3 different instruments with different laser wavelengths. According to the identification results with 14 033 chemicals, the proposed method identified all test chemicals without error, which indicates that the proposed method could be used as a promising alternative to the existing methods.

Nitinol or NiTi alloys are well-known as an attractive biomedical material due to their unique properties such as the shape memory effect, super-elasticity and biocompatibility. These characteristics enable them to be best candidates for implant materials such as stent. One of the major factors that strongly affect the performance of nitinol stent is its unique surface properties. In this study, the influence of electropolishing on nitinol stents and its corrosion behavior were observed. Electropolishing is an effective method for surface treatment, which not only controls the surface state but also helps to produce uniform surface layers. Therefore, to improve the surface quality of nitinol stents, we conducted an electropolishing under various conditions from 30­40 V and 10­30 s as a post heat treatment for nitinol stent manufacturing process. In order to find the optimal surface state of NiTi stents, various electropolished samples were explored using various characterization techniques. Furthermore, the potentiodynamic polarization tests were also performed to determine the corrosion resistance. The electropolished nitinol stents under the condition of 40 V for 10 s exhibited the best corrosion performance as well as surface quality.

The aim of this study was to evaluate antiproliferative sirolimus- and antioxidative alpha-lipoic acid (ALA)-eluting stents using biodegradable polymer [poly-L-lactic acid (PLA)] in a porcine coronary overstretch restenosis model. Forty coronary arteries of 20 pigs were randomized into four groups in which the coronary arteries had a bare metal stent (BMS, n = 10), ALA-eluting stent with PLA (AES, n = 10), sirolimus-eluting stent with PLA (SES, n = 10), or sirolimus- and ALA-eluting stent with PLA (SAS, n = 10). A histopathological analysis was performed 28 days after the stenting. The ALA and sirolimus released slowly over 30 days. There were no significant differences between groups in the injury or inflammation score; however, there were significant differences in the percent area of stenosis (56.2 ± 11.78% in BMS vs. 51.5 ± 12.20% in AES vs. 34.7 ± 7.23% in SES vs. 28.7 ± 7.30% in SAS, P < 0.0001) and fibrin score [1.0 (range 1.0-1.0) in BMS vs. 1.0 (range 1.0-1.0) in AES vs. 2.0 (range 2.0-2.0) in SES vs. 2.0 (range 2.0-2.0) in SAS, P < 0.0001] between the four groups. The percent area of stenosis based on micro-computed tomography corresponded with the restenosis rates based on histopathological stenosis in different proportions in the four groups (54.8 ± 7.88% in BMS vs. 50.4 ± 14.87% in AES vs. 34.5 ± 7.22% in SES vs. 28.9 ± 7.22% in SAS, P < 0.05). SAS showed a better neointimal inhibitory effect than BMS, AES, and SES at 1 month after stenting in a porcine coronary restenosis model. Therefore, SAS with PLA can be a useful drug combination for coronary stent coating to suppress neointimal hyperplasia.

This paper describes the fabrication and characterization of a wireless pressure sensor for smart stent applications. The micromachined pressure sensor has an area of 3.13 × 3.16 mm² and is fabricated with a photosensitive SU-8 polymer. The wireless pressure sensor comprises a resonant circuit and can be used without the use of an internal power source. The capacitance variations caused by changes in the intravascular pressure shift the resonance frequency of the sensor. This change can be detected using an external antenna, thus enabling the measurement of the pressure changes inside a tube with a simple external circuit. The wireless pressure sensor is capable of measuring pressure from 0 mmHg to 230 mmHg, with a sensitivity of 0.043 MHz/mmHg. The biocompatibility of the pressure sensor was evaluated using cardiac cells isolated from neonatal rat ventricular myocytes. After inserting a metal stent integrated with the pressure sensor into a cardiovascular vessel of an animal, medical systems such as X-ray were employed to consistently monitor the condition of the blood vessel. No abnormality was found in the animal blood vessel for approximately one month. Furthermore, a biodegradable polymer (polycaprolactone) stent was fabricated with a 3D printer. The polymer stent exhibits better sensitivity degradation of the pressure sensor compared to the metal stent.

The drug-eluting stent still has limitations such as thrombosis and inflammation. These limitations often occur in the absence of endothelialization. This study investigated the effects of WKYMVm- and sirolimus-coated stents on re-endothelialization and anti-restenosis. The WKYMVm peptide, specially synthesized for homing endothelial colony-forming cells, was coated onto a bare-metal stent with hyaluronic acid through a simple dip-coating method (designated HA-Pep). Thereafter, sirolimus was consecutively coated to onto the HA-Pep (designated Pep/SRL). The cellular response to stents by human umbilical-vein endothelial cells and vascular smooth-muscle cells was examined by XTT assay. Stents were implanted into rabbit iliac arteries, isolated 6 weeks post-implantation, and then subjected to histological analysis. The peptide was well attached to the surface of the stents and the sirolimus coating made the surface smooth. The release pattern for sirolimus was similar to that of commercial sirolimus-coated stents (57.2% within 7 days, with further release for up to 28 days). Endothelial-cell proliferation was enhanced in the HA-Pep group after 7 days of culture (38.2 ± 7.62%, compared with controls). On the other hand, the proliferation of smooth-muscle cells was inhibited in the Pep/SRL group after 7 days of culture (40.7 ± 6.71%, compared with controls). In an animal study, the restenosis rates for the Pep/SRL group (13.5 ± 4.50%) and commercial drug-eluting stents (Xience Prime™; 9.2 ± 7.20%) were lower than those for bare-metal stents (25.2 ± 4.52%) and HA-Pep stents (26.9 ± 3.88%). CD31 staining was incomplete for the bare-metal and Xience Prime™ groups. On the other hand, CD31 staining showed a consecutive linear pattern in the HA-Pep and Pep/SRL groups, suggesting that WKYMVm promotes endothelialization. These results indicate that the WKYMVm coating could promote endothelial healing, and consecutive coatings of WKYMVm and sirolimus onto bare-metal stents have a potential role in re-endothelialization and neointimal suppression.

Chronic total occlusions (CTOs) are common in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). This study aimed to examine the feasibility and reliability of a CTO induced by a thin biodegradable polymer (polyglycolic acid) coated copper stent in a porcine femoral artery. Novel thin biodegradable polymer coated copper stents (9 mm long) were crimped on an angioplasty balloon (4.5 mm diameter × 12 mm length) and inserted into the femoral artery. Histopathologic analysis was performed 35 days after stenting. In five of six stented femoral arteries, severe in-stent restenosis and total occlusion with collateral circulation were observed without adverse effects such as acute stent thrombosis, leg necrosis, or death at 5 weeks. Fibrous tissue deposition, small vascular channels, calcification, and inflammatory cells were observed in hematoxylin-eosin, Carstair's, and von Kossa tissue stains; these characteristics were similar to pathological findings associated with CTOs in humans. The neointima volume measured by micro-computed tomography was 93.9 ± 4.04 % in the stented femoral arteries. CTOs were reliably induced by novel thin biodegradable polymer coated copper stents in porcine femoral arteries. Successful induction of CTOs may provide a practical understanding of their formation and application of an interventional device for CTO treatment.

This study examines how temperature influences the response of Japanese tree frogs (Dryophytes japonicus) to microplastic (MP) pollution, assessing whether temperature can regulate the harmful effects of MPs on their life history and the dispersal of MPs across habitats. This analysis aims to understand the ecological and physiological ramifications of MP pollution. Our results demonstrated an ontogenetic transfer of MP particles across amphibian metamorphosis, possibly allowing and facilitating the translocation of MPs across ecosystems. Temperature did not significantly affect the translocation of aquatic MPs to land. However, high temperatures significantly reduced mortality and hindlimb deformities caused by MPs, thereby mitigating their harmful impact on amphibian life histories. Importantly, our study found that MPs cause hindlimb deformities during amphibian metamorphosis, potentially linked to oxidative stress. Additionally, MP exposure and ingestion induced a plastic response in the morphology of the digestive tract and changes in the fecal microbiome, which were evident at high temperatures but not at low temperatures. The effects of MPs persisted even after the frogs transitioned to the terrestrial stage, suggesting that MPs may have complex, long-term impacts on amphibian population sustainability. Our results enhance the understanding of the intricate environmental challenges posed by MPs and underscore the significant role of temperature in ectotherms regarding ontogenetic impacts and pollutant interactions.
