RESUMO

Tissue adaptation is required for regulatory T (Treg) cell function within organs. Whether this program shares aspects with other tissue-localized immune populations is unclear. Here, we analyzed single-cell chromatin accessibility data, including the transposable element (TE) landscape of CD45+ immune cells from colon, skin, adipose tissue, and spleen. We identified features of organ-specific tissue adaptation across different immune cells. Focusing on tissue Treg cells, we found conservation of the Treg tissue adaptation program in other tissue-localized immune cells, such as amphiregulin-producing T helper (Th)17 cells. Accessible TEs can act as regulatory elements, but their contribution to tissue adaptation is not understood. TE landscape analysis revealed an enrichment of specific transcription factor binding motifs in TE regions within accessible chromatin peaks. TEs, specifically from the LTR family, were located in enhancer regions and associated with tissue adaptation. These findings broaden our understanding of immune tissue residency and provide an important step toward organ-specific immune interventions.

Murine regulatory T (Treg) cells in tissues promote tissue homeostasis and regeneration. We sought to identify features that characterize human Treg cells with these functions in healthy tissues. Single-cell chromatin accessibility profiles of murine and human tissue Treg cells defined a conserved, microbiota-independent tissue-repair Treg signature with a prevailing footprint of the transcription factor BATF. This signature, combined with gene expression profiling and TCR fate mapping, identified a population of tissue-like Treg cells in human peripheral blood that expressed BATF, chemokine receptor CCR8 and HLA-DR. Human BATF+CCR8+ Treg cells from normal skin and adipose tissue shared features with nonlymphoid T follicular helper-like (Tfh-like) cells, and induction of a Tfh-like differentiation program in naive human Treg cells partially recapitulated tissue Treg regenerative characteristics, including wound healing potential. Human BATF+CCR8+ Treg cells from healthy tissue share features with tumor-resident Treg cells, highlighting the importance of understanding the context-specific functions of these cells.

Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) is the cornerstone treatment for various hematopoietic disorders, but its utility is often compromised by chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD), affecting skin integrity and leading to ulcer formations. Traditional treatments, including systemic and topical therapies, frequently fail in severe cases. This study retrospectively examines three patients with therapy-resistant ulcers due to cGvHD post-alloSCT treated at the University Hospital of Regensburg in 2023. We evaluated the therapeutic impact of human amniotic membrane (hAM) transplantation-a novel approach utilizing hAM's anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and anti-fibrotic properties for wound healing. Surgical debridement was followed by hAM application and routine follow-up. HAM transplantation led to complete wound closure in two out of three patients and a significant reduction in local pain and infection rates. The treatment alleviated the need for regular dressing changes within three months in two patients, demonstrating the hAM's efficacy in fostering rapid and sustained healing. The utilization of hAM represents a promising alternative for the management of refractory skin ulcers in cGvHD patients, particularly when conventional methods are inadequate.

BACKGROUND: Exact quantification of volumetric changes of the extremities is difficult and often error-prone. The aim of this study was to establish a standardized method based on 3-dimensional (3D) scans. Furthermore, this study tests the method in terms of reproducibility and evaluates volume changes after surgical therapy in patients suffering from lymphedema on the lower extremity. METHODS: 3D scans of the lower limb were performed with a mobile 3D scanner; "repeatability" and "interobserver reliability" of digital volumetry were tested. Furthermore, the method was applied on 31 patients suffering from chronic lymphedema. RESULTS: Calculations of repeatability of the volume based on 20 3D scans of the same lower leg showed a mean volume of 2.488 ± 0.011 liters (range: 2.470-2.510). The mean volume of the different examiners did not differ significantly (F(2,18) = 1.579, P = 0.233). The paired t-test showed a significant mean volume decrease of 375 mL (95% confidence interval = 245/505 mL) between pretreatment and post-treatment (t (30) = 5.892, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: 3D volumetry is a noninvasive, easy, and quick method to assess volume changes of the lower leg. Other than the low costs, it is reproducible and precise and therefore ideal for evolution of therapy in lymphedema.

BACKGROUND: There exists a paucity of large-scale, multi-institutional studies that investigate the outcomes of surgery for Bell's palsy (BP). Here, we utilize a large, multi-institutional database to study the risk factors and early-stage outcomes following surgical procedures in BP. METHODS: We reviewed the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database (2008-2019) to identify patients who underwent surgery for the diagnosis of BP. We extracted data on comorbidities and preoperative blood values, and 30-day postoperative outcomes. RESULTS: Two hundred fifty-seven patients who underwent surgery for BP symptoms over the 12-year review period were identified. Muscle grafts (n=50; 19%) and fascial grafts (n=48; 19%) accounted for the majority of procedures. The most common comorbidities were hypertension (n=89; 35%) and obesity (n=79; 31%). Complications occurred in 26 (10.1%) cases. Additionally, length of hospital stay was significantly associated with both surgical and medical complications (3.9±4.7 versus 1.5±2.0; P <0.01) and (3.2±3.8 versus 1.4±2.0; P <0.01), respectively. Preoperative creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and alkaline phosphatase were identified as potential predictors of poor postoperative outcomes. CONCLUSION: Based on multi-institutional analysis, complication rates following surgery for BP were found to be overall low and seen to correlate with length of hospital stay. Reoperations and readmissions were the most frequent complications after surgery for BP. The preoperative evaluation of routine laboratory values may help refine patient eligibility and risk stratification. In addition, our findings call for future large-scale prospective studies in the field of facial palsy surgery to further improve the quality of care and optimize perioperative protocols.

BACKGROUND: Given that scars are acknowledged as the primary cause of postoperative dissatisfaction following reduction mammoplasty, it is imperative to comprehend the patient's visual perception of different scar patterns in order to enhance patient satisfaction. To achieve this, eye-tracking technology provides an unbiased method of evaluating how observers assess breast scars. METHODS: 58 participants (32 females and 26 males) between the ages of 19 and 82 years (mean age of 29.47 ± 10.98 years) were shown 18 color photographs, taken at 3 viewing angles (right 45° oblique, frontal and frontal view with arms raised), from 6 patients undergone reduction mammoplasty with the inverted T-scar technique (3 patients) or no-vertical-scar technique (3 patients). The images were presented to every participant for a fixed duration of 5 s each. Eye-tracking device was used to collect and analyze the gaze data of viewers. RESULTS: The nipple-areola complex (NAC) and the periareolar scar captured observers' gaze faster, had longer duration and more count of eye fixation than all other parts of breast scars, regardless of the viewing angle and scar pattern. Moreover, the scar region in the inverted T-scar pattern received greater and faster visual attraction of observer's gaze than the no-vertical-scar pattern. CONCLUSION: The NAC and the periareolar scar seem to be perceived as the most important regions for breast aesthetics. The findings can be helpful to assist plastic surgeons in determining the most appropriate technique for reduction mammoplasty, meanwhile underlining the importance of a fine periareolar scar and symmetric NAC for excellent aesthetic outcomes. This is to our best knowledge the first study using eye-tracking technology in evaluating reduction mammoplasty outcomes. This study explored the influence of different scar patterns after reduction mammoplasty on eye movements and gaze patterns among observers. The study have validated the significance of the NAC and the periareolar scar for breast aesthetics and revealed that the scar region in the inverted T-scar pattern may be judged less visually attractive than the no-vertical-scar pattern. BACKGROUND: Breast lipofilling, a popular cosmetic and reconstructive procedure, involves the transplantation of autologous fat to enhance breast volume and contour. Despite its widespread use, cell processing and the aftertreatment remain controversial. This study investigates the pressure applied by a compression bra and reports in vitro stress tests of processed and unprocessed fat cells. METHODS: Clinical bra pressure measurements were conducted on a cohort of 45 patients following lipofilling, reduction mammoplasties and DIEP flaps. Laboratory analysis included cell vitality testing using Resazurin assays of processed and unprocessed fat cells after exposure to mechanical or hyperbaric pressure. RESULTS: Our findings show a mean overall pressure value of the compression bra for all patients of 6.7 ± 5.7 mmHg (range 0-35). Cell processing is superior to sedimentation only regarding fat cell vitality. However, neither mechanical pressure within the specified range nor hyperbaric oxygen exposure significantly affected fat graft survival as measured by Resazurin assays. CONCLUSION: The in vitro measurements showed that it was impossible to harm fat cells with external pressure during lipofilling procedures, regardless of their processing. In the clinical context, the compression bra applied pressure values deceeding the perfusion pressure and may therefore not diminish oxygen supply nor harm the transplanted cells. Therefore, we recommend the use of a compression bra for all lipofilling procedures around the breast. Lipofilling is an option for breast reconstruction after tumor resection to avoid the complications of an implant-based reconstruction. Although some concerns exist regarding the oncological safety of tissue rich in mesenchymal stem cells with their proangiogenic and proliferation-supportive properties, there are also reports that adipose-tissue-derived stem cells can exhibit antitumoral properties. We isolated primary adipose-tissue-derived stem cells. Both conditioned medium and exosomes were harvested from the cell culture and used to treat the breast cancer cell line MCF-7. Cell viability, cytotoxicity, and gene expression of MCF-7 cells in response to the indirect co-culture were evaluated. MCF-7 cells incubated with exosomes from adipose-tissue-derived stem cells show reduced cell viability in comparison to MCF-7 cells incubated with adipose-tissue-derived stem-cell-conditioned medium. Expression of proapoptotic genes was upregulated, and expression of antiapoptotic genes was downregulated. The debate about the oncological safety of autologous fat grafting after tumor resection continues. Here, we show that exosomes from adipose-tissue-derived stem cells exhibit some antitumoral properties on breast cancer cell line MCF-7.

PURPOSE: Lipofilling has been established as a standard technique for contour enhancement following breast reconstruction. However, there is a paucity in current literature regarding the use of this technique for complete reconstruction of the female breast as an alternative to conventional techniques, such as expander or flap-based procedures. In particular, the influence of pre-operative irradiation for successful reconstruction has rarely been examined in published studies. Here, the authors describe their experience with successful fat injection in pre-radiated breasts in comparison with non-pre-radiated patients. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we examined a total of 95 lipofilling treatments on 26 patients (28 breasts). All of them experienced mastectomy following breast cancer; local breast defects after partial resection of the gland were not included in this study. In total, 47 lipofilling procedures in 12 non-irradiated patients (14 breasts) and 48 procedures in 14 irradiated women (also 14 breasts) were performed. Per session, approximately 297 ± 112 cc of adipose tissue was grafted in group A (no radiotherapy) and approximately 259 ± 93 cc was grafted in group B (radiotherapy). RESULTS: Among the group of women without pre-operative radiation, 71% of breast reconstructions limited to lipofilling only showed constant engraftment of fat tissue with a successful reconstructive result, whereas only 21% of the patients with pre-radiated breasts showed complete reconstruction of the breast with a permanent fat in-growth. CONCLUSION: Preoperative radiotherapy significantly impedes successful completion of breast reconstructions planned only by autologous fat transfer. Patients should be selected individually and carefully for complete breast reconstruction using lipofilling only.

OBJECTIVE: Despite the popularity of rhinoplasty, outcome research has been mainly limited to single-surgeon or single-institution reports. Therefore, we performed a multi-institutional analysis to present a broader portrait of the postoperative outcomes and risk factors for adverse events after rhinoplasty surgery. METHODS: We reviewed the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) database (2009-2019) to identify patients who underwent rhinoplasty. The postoperative outcomes of interest included 30-day mortality, reoperation, readmission, and surgical and medical complications. We also analyzed risk factors for complication occurrence, including patient comorbidities and preoperative laboratory values. RESULTS: We identified 835 patients, 72% (n=602) of whom underwent a primary, 21% (n=175) a secondary, and 6.7% (n=58) a cleft nasal deformity procedure. The average patient age was 41±17 years, with most patients being female (n=472; 57%) and white (n=643; 77%). Complications rates were generally low, with reoperation (n=19; 2.3%) and superficial incisional infection (n=9; 1.1%) account for the most common general and surgical adverse event, respectively. Multivariable analysis revealed male sex ( P =0.04) and higher ASA scores ( P <0.0001) as risk factors for complications. Low serum albumin ( P =0.04) and hematocrit ( P =0.003) levels were associated with the occurrence of any complication, whereas low serum albumin ( P =0.02) also correlated with the incidence of surgical adverse events. CONCLUSION: Complication rates after rhinoplasty were overall low and seemed to correlate with male sex and ASA scores. We identified preoperative albumin and hematocrit as predictive biomarkers of adverse events. Preoperative nutritional optimization and management of low hematocrit may improve postoperative outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Social media (SoMe) has become a powerful platform for distributing health information. Facial palsy (FP) results in functional and social impairment and lowers quality of life. Social media may help to raise awareness of FP sequalae. This study aims to determine the FP information growth on SoMe platforms and parameters that influence user engagement on FP content. METHODS: Five commonly used SoMe platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Reddit) were analyzed. Data on 18 FP hashtags and their social interaction parameters (posts, likes, reaches, comments, shares, language, and country of origin) over the past 5 years (July 31, 2016, to July 31, 2021) were collected. In-depth account analysis was performed on the 5 most popular Instagram profiles associated with FP. RESULTS: The annual growth curve was positive on each platform. Facial Palsy Awareness Week 2021 trended best on TikTok. Facebook accumulated 315,411 likes and 1,922,678 reaches on 8356 posts. On Instagram, 24,968 posts gathered 4,904,124 likes and 9,215,852 reaches. TikTok users interacted on 3565 posts, accumulating 4,304,155 likes and 4,200,368 reaches. The implementation of reels ( P <0.001) and the profile host interacting with their followers by liking ( P <0.001) and replying ( P <0.001) to users' comments significantly increased the engagement rate. CONCLUSIONS: Facial palsy is of increasing interest on SoMe. Facial palsy surgeons may post reels, interact with their community, and engage into FPAW to promote user engagement.

Plastic surgeons are trained to perform a wide repertoire of surgeries-ranging from standard local procedures to highly specialized operations. Therefore, plastic surgeons treat a plethora of clinical presentations and address multiple patient needs. Their daily workflow is increasingly entwined with legal topics. The concrete legal interpretation falls within the remit of legal experts. However, by understanding the legal basics of selected surgical procedures, plastic surgeons may generate synergies in patient care and clinical practice. The legal situation is to be elucidated based on the German Basic Law (GBL) and the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR). Lipedema is a chronic condition characterized by disproportionate and symmetrical enlargement of adipose tissue, predominantly affecting the lower limbs of women. This study investigated the use of metabolomics in lipedema research, with the objective of identifying complex metabolic disturbances and potential biomarkers for early detection, prognosis, and treatment strategies. The study group (n = 25) comprised women diagnosed with lipedema. The controls were 25 lean women and 25 obese females, both matched for age. In the patients with lipedema, there were notable changes in the metabolite parameters. Specifically, lower levels of histidine and phenylalanine were observed, whereas pyruvic acid was elevated compared with the weight controls. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves for the diagnostic accuracy of histidine, phenylalanine, and pyruvic acid concentrations in distinguishing between patients with lipedema and those with obesity but without lipedema revealed good diagnostic ability for all parameters, with pyruvic acid being the most promising (area under the curve (AUC): 0.9992). Subgroup analysis within matched body mass index (BMI) ranges (30.0 to 39.9 kg/m2) further revealed that differences in pyruvic acid, phenylalanine, and histidine levels are likely linked to lipedema pathology rather than BMI variations. Changes in low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-6 TG levels and significant reductions in various LDL-2-carried lipids of patients with lipedema, compared with the lean controls, were observed. However, these lipids were similar between the lipedema patients and the obese controls, suggesting that these alterations are related to adiposity. Metabolomics is a valuable tool for investigating lipedema, offering a comprehensive view of metabolic changes and insights into lipedema's underlying mechanisms.

BACKGROUND: The use of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in superinfected wounds is controversial. The mechanism of action is unclear, but recent studies have shown lower atmospheric oxygen levels within the dressing. Therefore, different oxygen-favoring bacteria and fungi might benefit or face impaired thriving conditions. The aim of this in vitro study is to investigate the influence of NPWT on bacterial and fungal growth. METHODS: Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans strains were cultured on concentrated agars and attached to a standard NPWT-device. After 48 hours, colonies were separately harvested from the agar and foam. Optical density (OD) was obtained in order to estimate bacterial loads. RESULTS: For all tested microorganisms, no overall significant differences were found compared to controls. Subanalysis showed lower OD levels from the agar beneath the foam in the NPWT-group. CONCLUSION: NPWT removed bacteria and fungi from the wound surface but accumulation is found within the foam. The use of NPWT showed no influence on bacterial or fungal growth selection. With superinfected wounds, the use of NPWT should thoroughly be evaluated as toxins and virulence factors may not fully be evacuated.

BACKGROUND: Recurrent scandals involving breast implants have revealed that scientific evidence on the performance of these devices is lacking, and passive monitoring systems are not capable of detecting problems at an early stage. The German health authorities therefore decided to implement a prospective, mandatory registry. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this article was to provide information about the advantages of implementing a mandatory registry, the potential hurdles involved, and to establish structural requirements that future registries can use. METHODS: Since 2018, the authors have assisted the German Ministry of Health in refining the Implant Law and its implementation. They adapted an internationally consented dataset, promoted international data amplification and conducted monthly trial inputs for over 2 years. By identifying several key issues they were able to assist in developing solutions. RESULTS: The cooperation with the authorities was characterized by appreciation of the authors' expertise and previous international work. Challenges included data privacy issues, federal competence, longitudinal follow-up, and contact data; as well as associated costs and technical solutions for data inclusion and the use of information technology to communicate with stakeholders. Addressing these challenges required considerable interference with personal rights and complementary measures for all stakeholders. Extensive structural precautions were taken to safeguard personal data privacy as far as possible. CONCLUSIONS: The authors' experience and lessons learned can guide registries seeking to engage in high levels of evidence data. The authors describe their approach, the obstacles they encountered, and the strategies employed to overcome the setbacks of other registries.

PURPOSE: Congenital breast asymmetry is a serious gynecological malformation for affected patients. The condition hits young women in puberty and is associated with socio-esthetic handicap, depression, and psychosexual problems. Surgical treatment is usually early in the patient's lifetime, so a long-term sustainable solution is important. Although postoperative outcome has been evaluated in several studies before, this study is the first to analyze which objective parameters have the greatest influence on subjective satisfaction with long-term results. METHODS: Thirty-four patients diagnosed with congenital breast asymmetry that underwent either lipofilling or implant therapy between the years of 2008 to 2019 were examined. On average, our collective comprised patients seven years after surgery. Data were mainly gathered through manual measurements, patient-reported outcome measures (Breast Q™), and breast volumetry based on 3D scans (Vectra® H2, Canfield Scientific). RESULTS: Among all analyzed parameters, only areolar diameter correlated significantly negatively with the subjective outcome satisfaction of the patient. Regarding the subjective assessment of postoperative satisfaction with similarity of the breasts, again the mean areolar diameter, but also the difference in areolar diameter and breast volume between the right and left breasts correlated significantly negatively. CONCLUSION: Areolar diameter was revealed as being a significant factor influencing subjective long-term satisfaction in breast asymmetry patients. Moreover, 3D volumetry proves to be an effective tool to substantiate subjective patient assessments. Our findings may lead to further improvements to surgical planning and will be expanded in further studies.

PURPOSE: The aim of our study was to examine the surgical outcome and complications (efficiency) as well as the incidence of locoregional recurrence and distant metastases (oncological safety) in patients who underwent autologous fat grafting (AFG) of the breast following breast cancer surgery. METHODS: In our monocentric cohort study, retrospective and prospective data were collected from all consecutive patients who underwent AFG after breast cancer between 2008 and 2020; a total of 93 patients met the inclusion criteria. RESULTS: Our long-term results showed no increase in tumor recurrence and distant metastases in the studied collective when compared to the available literature. We observed 1 local recurrence (1.1%), 2 distant metastases (2.2%), and 1 tumor-related death (1.1%). There was a high degree of patient satisfaction; 67.12% of patients reported adequate satisfaction with autologous fat grafting. CONCLUSION: Currently, to our knowledge, this is the study with the longest follow-up time (mean 6.7 years after AFG and 11.5 years after tumor resection). The results of our clinical study will contribute to improve evidence in the broad field of AFG, adipose stem cell and tumor research. Consistent with our study, the literature review shows a clear tendency of clinical trial results with a low incidence rate of tumor recurrence and metastasis following the use of AFG. AFG seems to be a safe procedure also after breast cancer treatment.

INTRODUCTION: Venous anastomosis remains to be a challenging step in microsurgical tissue transfer and venous complications constitute to a common reason for free flap failure. While several studies have compared mechanical vs. hand-sewn venous anastomoses, there is no large-series study comparing the type of anastomosis exclusively in DIEP flap breast reconstructions. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 2011 and 2019, 3926 female patients underwent 4577 free DIEP-flap breast reconstructions in 22 different breast cancer centers. Patient data was collected via an online database, files were screened and cases were divided into a hand- (HA) and a coupler-anastomosis (CA) group. Complications were accounted for and the two groups were then compared. RESULTS: Mean ischemia time was significantly shorter in the CA group (46.88 ± 26.17 vs. 55.48 ± 24.70 min; p < .001), whereas mean operative time was comparable (316 ± 134.01 vs. 320.77 ± 120.29 minutes; p = .294). We found no significant difference between both groups regarding the rate of partial (CA: 1.0% vs. HA: 1.3%) and total flap loss (CA: 2.2% vs. HA: 1.8%). However, revision rates were significantly higher in the CA group (CA: 10.5% vs. HA: 7.9%; p = .003), with higher numbers of arterial (2.3 vs. 0.9%; p < .001) and venous thromboses (3.4 vs. 1.8%; p = .001) accounting for this finding. CONCLUSIONS: All taken into account, our findings do support the feasibility of venous coupler anastomoses in principle, however the inflationary use of coupler devices should be evaluated critically.

AIMS: Congenital breast asymmetry represents a particular challenge to the classic techniques of plastic surgery given the young age of patients at presentation. This study reviews and compares the long-term results of traditional breast augmentation using silicone implants and the more innovative technique of lipografting. METHODS: To achieve this, we not only captured subjective parameters such as satisfaction with outcome and symmetry, but also objective parameters including breast volume and anthropometric measurements. The objective examination was performed manually and by using the Vectra® H2 photogrammetry scanning system. RESULTS: Differences between patients undergoing either implant augmentation or lipograft were revealed not to be significant with respect to patient satisfaction with surgical outcome (p = 0.55) and symmetry (p = 0.69). Furthermore, a breast symmetry of 93 % was reported in both groups. Likewise, no statistically significant volume difference between the left and right breasts was observed in both groups (p < 0.41). However, lipograft patients needed on average 2.9 procedures to achieve the desired result, compared with 1.3 for implant augmentation. In contrast, patients treated with implant augmentation may require a number of implant changes during their lifetime. CONCLUSION: Both methods may be considered for patients presenting with congenital breast asymmetry. BACKGROUND: Augmentation rhinoplasty with autologous fat grafting is a useful procedure to meet the demand for facial harmonization in the Asian population. We used this procedure during orthognathic surgery to address inadequate dorsum projection. This prospective study was conducted to determine the fat retention rate in patients undergoing simultaneous autologous fat injection augmentation rhinoplasty and orthognathic surgery. METHODS: Nineteen patients were treated with simultaneous bimaxillary orthognathic surgery and autologous fat grafting of the nasal dorsum and tip. The paired t test was used to compare the nasal volumes before and at least 6 months after surgery measured by 3-dimensional computer tomography scans. All measurements were performed twice by the same evaluator at least 2 weeks apart for intrarater consistency. RESULTS: Seventeen patients completed the study. The volume means before and after surgery were 22.3 ± 4.6 cm3 and 23.3 ± 4.7 cm3, respectively, with a mean difference of 1.0 ± 0.3 cm3 (P < .001). The mean retention rate was calculated to be 50.5% ± 7.0% (range: 40.5%-64.7%). Intrarater consistency was high with a Cronbach α of .97 (P < .001) and .98 (P < .001), respectively. CONCLUSION: This prospective study provides objective graft retention measurements for fat injection augmentation rhinoplasty combined with orthognathic surgery. All patients were satisfied with the results and no complications or additional morbidity was noted in the postoperative course. We consider this procedure to be a safe, reliable, and powerful adjunct to improve the aesthetic results of orthognathic surgery.
