RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To produce jasmine tea of excellent quality, it is crucial to select jasmine flowers at their optimal growth stage during harvesting. However, achieving this goal remains a challenge due to environmental and manual factors. This study addresses this issue by classifying different jasmine flowers based on visual attributes using the YOLOv7 algorithm, one of the most advanced algorithms in convolutional neural networks. RESULTS: The mean average precision (mAP value) for detecting jasmine flowers using this model is 0.948, and the accuracy for five different degrees of openness of jasmine flowers, namely small buds, buds, half-open, full-open and wiltered, is 87.7%, 90.3%, 89%, 93.9% and 86.4%, respectively. Meanwhile, other ways of processing the images in the dataset, such as blurring and changing the brightness, also increased the credibility of the algorithm. CONCLUSION: This study shows that it is feasible to use deep learning algorithms for distinguishing jasmine flowers at different growth stages. This study can provide a reference for jasmine production estimation and for the development of intelligent and precise flower-picking applications to reduce flower waste and production costs. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In recent studies, concentrations of cell-free circulating DNA (cf-DNA) have been correlated with clinical characteristics and prognosis in several diseases. The relationship between cf-DNA concentrations and the acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains unknown. Moreover, no data are available for the detection cf-DNA in ACS by a branched DNA (bDNA)-based Alu assay. The aim of the present study was to investigate cf-DNA concentrations in ACS and their relationship with clinical features. METHODS: Plasma cf-DNA concentrations of 137 ACS patients at diagnosis, of 60 healthy individuals and of 13 patients with stable angina (SA) were determined using a bDNA-based Alu assay. RESULTS: ACS patients (median 2,285.0, interquartile range 916.4-4,857.3 ng/ml), especially in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients (median 5,745.4, interquartile range 4,013.5-8,643.9 ng/ml), showed a significant increase in plasma cf-DNA concentrations compared with controls (healthy controls: median 118.3, interquartile range 81.1-221.1 ng/ml; SA patients: median 202.3, interquartile range 112.7-256.1 ng/ml) using a bDNA-based Alu assay. Moreover, we found positive correlations between cf-DNA and Gensini scoring and GRACE (Global Registry of Acute Coronary Events) scoring in ACS. CONCLUSION: cf-DNA may be a valuable marker for diagnosing and predicting the severity of coronary artery lesions and risk stratification in ACS.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the distribution of hepatitis B virus (HBV) genotypes in Guangdong and explore its clinical significance. METHODS: Fifty-five patients with chronic active hepatitis (CAH) from Guangdong province were included in this study. HBV surface gene amplified by PCR was analyzed by restriction fragments length polymorphism (RFLP) for HBV genotyping, and the relationship of HBV genotype with clinical, serological and histological data of the patients was analyzed. RESULTS: Twenty-eight out of 55 patients were infected with HBV strains of genotype B (51.0%), 18 with genotype C (32.7%), 4 with genotype D (7.3%), 4 with HBV classified as genotype B+C (7.3%), and 1 (1.8%) with HBV that did not conform to any of the genotypes from A to G. No significant differences in clinical, histological, or serological data of HBV DNA loading were detected between genotypes B and C. But in patients older than 30 years, the genotype C was accompanied by significantly higher HBV DNA loading and serum HBeAg level than genotype B (Fisher's exact test, P=0.002). CONCLUSIONS: HBV genotype B and C are the major genotypes prevalent in Guangdong Province. Genotype C is associated with the longer duration of HBeAg and higher HBV DNA level in patients older than 30 years, suggesting the higher risk of HBV genotype C infection to progress into chronic liver disease.
