RESUMO

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The primary objective of this review is to explore the pathophysiological roles and clinical implications of lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] in the context of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). We seek to understand how Lp(a) contributes to inflammation and arteriosclerosis, aiming to provide new insights into the mechanisms of ASCVD progression. RECENT FINDINGS: Recent research highlights Lp(a) as an independent risk factor for ASCVD. Studies show that Lp(a) not only promotes the inflammatory processes but also interacts with various cellular components, leading to endothelial dysfunction and smooth muscle cell proliferation. The dual role of Lp(a) in both instigating and, under certain conditions, mitigating inflammation is particularly noteworthy. This review finds that Lp(a) plays a complex role in the development of ASCVD through its involvement in inflammatory pathways. The interplay between Lp(a) levels and inflammatory responses highlights its potential as a target for therapeutic intervention. These insights could pave the way for novel approaches in managing and preventing ASCVD, urging further investigation into Lp(a) as a therapeutic target.

Aeromonas hydrophila can be a substantial concern, as it causes various diseases in aquaculture. An effective and green method for inhibiting A. hydrophila is urgently required. Emodin, a naturally occurring anthraquinone compound, was exploited as a photo-antimicrobial agent against A. hydrophila. At the minimum inhibitory concentration of emodin (256 mg/L) to inactivate A. hydrophilia in 30 min, an 11.32% survival rate was observed under 45 W white compact fluorescent light irradiation. In addition, the antibacterial activity under natural sunlight (0.78%) indicated its potential for practical application. Morphological observations demonstrated that the cell walls and membranes of A. hydrophila were susceptible to damage by emodin when exposed to light irradiation. More importantly, the photoinactivation of A. hydrophila was predominantly attributed to the hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals produced by emodin, according to the trapping experiment and electron spin resonance spectroscopy. Finally, a light-dependent reactive oxygen species punching mechanism of emodin to photoinactivate A. hydrophila was proposed. This study highlights the potential use of emodin in sunlight-mediated applications for bacterial control, thereby providing new possibilities for the use of Chinese herbal medicine in aquatic diseases prevention.

Broadband infrared (IR) absorption is sought after for wide range of applications. Graphene can support IR plasmonic waves tightly bound to its surface, leading to an intensified near-field. However, the excitation of graphene plasmonic waves usually relies on resonances. Thus, it is still difficult to directly obtain both high near-field intensity and high absorption rate in ultra-broad IR band. Herein, a novel method is proposed to directly realize high near-field intensity in broadband IR band by graphene coated manganous oxide microwires featured hierarchical nanostructures (HNSs-MnO@Gr MWs) both experimentally and theoretically. Both near-field intensity and IR absorption of HNSs-MnO@Gr MWs are enhanced by at least one order of magnitude compared to microwires with smooth surfaces. The results demonstrate that the HNSs-MnO@Gr MWs support vibrational sensing of small organic molecules, covering the whole fingerprint region and function group region. Compared with the graphene-flake-based enhancers, the signal enhancement factors reach a record high of 103 . Furthermore, just a single HNSs-MnO@Gr MW can be constructed to realize sensitively photoresponse with high responsivity (over 3000 V W-1 ) from near-IR to mid-IR. The graphene coated dielectric hierarchical micro/nanoplatform with enhanced near-field intensity is scalable and can harness for potential applications including spectroscopy, optoelectronics, and sensing.

The inter-kingdom communication between host and pathogenic bacteria mediated by the host hormones epinephrine (Epi)/norepinephrine (NE)/autoinducer-3 (AI-3) and transduced by the bacterial two-component signal transduction system QseBC has been well demonstrated in mammalian pathogens. Aeromonas hydrophila, a common opportunistic pathogen in freshwater aquaculture, responds to NE by increased bacterial growth and enhanced virulence. However, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. Our study demonstrated that deletion of qseB and qseC significantly inhibited NE-promoted growth, biofilm formation, and hemolytic activity of A. hydrophila. The adhesion ability of ΔqseB and ΔqseC to J774a.1 cells was significantly decreased compared with the wild-type strain in the presence and absence of NE, whereas NE still enhanced the adhesion ability of the mutant and wild-type strains with a similar effect, suggesting that NE-enhanced cell adhesion was independent of QseBC. Moreover, QseBC did not affect the swimming and swarming motility of A. hydrophila with or without NE. Quantitative real-time PCR analyses revealed the down-regulated expression of some virulence-related genes (hly, ast, act, aerA) in each mutant compared with the wild-type strain in the presence of NE. Tilapia infection experiments indicated that deletion of qseB or qseC weakened NE-promoted virulence of A. hydrophila. In conclusion, our study suggests that NE stimulates the growth, biofilm formation, and hemolytic activity of A. hydrophila and enhances the virulence of the pathogen in fish via the QseBC system.

BACKGROUND: Readiness for hospital discharge is associated with patients' health outcomes after they return home. However, little is known about this association among cancer patients receiving oral chemotherapy at home. This study aimed to examine whether patients' reported readiness for hospital discharge was associated with symptoms and non-routine utilization of post-discharge services among cancer patients receiving oral chemotherapy at home. METHODS: A prospective study was conducted, and 151 cancer patients receiving oral chemotherapy were recruited from a provincial level hospital in South China between October 2018 and December 2019. The primary outcome was readiness for hospital discharge assessed by the Readiness for Hospital Discharge Scale-Short Form on the day of discharge. The secondary endpoints were symptoms assessed by MD Anderson Symptom Inventory and non-routine utilization of post-discharge services within one cycle of chemotherapy at home (21 days). RESULTS: Among these 151 participants, 74.2% of them reported as ready for discharge. Patients who were employed, lived in suburban area or villages, had a higher Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group score, took Tegafur as oral chemotherapy, and took oral chemotherapy for the first time reported lower readiness for hospital discharge. These five factors explained 28.1% of variance in readiness for hospital discharge. Patients who were not ready for discharge were prone to report higher symptom severity (p = 0.038). No differences in non-routine utilization of post-discharge services were found between the readiness versus non-readiness for discharge groups (p = 0.891). CONCLUSIONS: Most cancer patients receiving oral chemotherapy at home were ready for discharge, which was influenced by employment status, residence status, Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group score, type of oral chemotherapy drug, and the experience of taking oral chemotherapy at home. Patients with lower readiness reported worse symptom severity at home. Routine assessment was suggested to recognize unready patients, and more extensive preparations for discharge were recommended to help them manage symptoms at home.

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to discuss the correlation between the Hemophilia Early Detection Ultrasound in China (HEAD-US-C) score and the Hemophilia Joint Health Score version 2.1 (HJHS 2.1) of the knee joint in patients with hemophilia. METHODS: We included 70 male patients with hemophilia admitted to The Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University; the patients' bilateral knee joints were evaluated using the HEAD-US-C score and HJHS. We analyzed factors influencing hemophilia arthropathy of the knee and examined the correlation between the HEAD-US-C score and HJHS. RESULTS: The joint injury severity was positively correlated with age and the number of bleeds (P < .001). Further, the HEAD-US-C score and HJHS differed according to the severity (both P < .001), but not type (P = .163 and P = .283, respectively), of hemophilia. There was a significant correlation between the HEAD-US-C score and HJHS (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: Overall, all joint lesions observed on ultrasound corresponded to clinical joint functional abnormalities. Therefore, the HEAD-US-C is important for hemophilic arthropathy evaluation and is useful in explaining abnormal joint function.

Rapid and sensitive dengue non-structural protein 1 (NS1) detection assay is essential for the treatment of disease and currently releases high medical cost burdens. To address the limitations of conventional LFIA strips, we have developed an improved Sup35NM-Z-based LFIA that immobilizes antibodies on cellulose membranes in an orientated manner to increase the sensitivity of LFIA strips. A dual-functional Sup35NM nanofibril was fabricated by fusion with the antibody binding domain; resultant nanofibril from the amyloid Sup35NM was sprayed on the T-line to orientate the capture antibody and produces fluorescence signals. Antibody binding analysis showed that self-assembly of the Sup35NM monomer does not affect the binding activity of the Z-domain with the antibody. The NS1 for DENV-2 infection was chosen as a model target antigen to assess the feasibility of the Sup35NM-Z-domain-based LFIA platform. Under optimal conditions, the Sup35NM-Z-domain-based LFIA detected NS1 within 15 min with a detection limit of 1.29 ng/ml, while the detection limit of traditional LFIA with the same concentration of anti-NS1-Ab1 on the T-line by conventional physical adsorption was 2.20 ng/ml, 1.7 times higher than that of Sup35NM-Z-domain-based LFIA. As compared to traditional LFIAs, the Sup35NM-Z-based LFIA had a wide detection range of 1.29-625 ng/mL. The LFIA's clinical performance in identifying NS1 was also assessed using 15 clinical samples. The LFIA accurately recognized positive and negative samples, equal to 86.7% accuracy. The developed Sup35NM-Z-domain-based LFIA in this study offers great potential for the identification of target markers because of its greatly improved sensitivity and wider detection range.

Oxide heterointerfaces with high carrier density can interact strongly with the lattice phonons, generating considerable plasmon-phonon coupling and thereby perturbing the fascinating optical and electronic properties, such as two-dimensional electron gas, ferromagnetism, and superconductivity. Here we use infrared-spectroscopic nanoimaging based on scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) to quantify the interaction of electron-phonon coupling and the spatial distribution of local charge carriers at the SrTiO3/TiO2 interface. We found an increased high-frequency dielectric constant (ε∞ = 7.1-9.0) and charge carrier density (n = 6.5 × 1019 to 1.5 × 1020 cm-3) near the heterointerface. Moreover, quantitative information between the charge carrier density and extension thickness across the heterointerface has been extracted by monochromatic near-field imaging. A direct evaluation of the relationship between the thickness and the interaction of charge carrier-phonon coupling of the heterointerface would provide valuable information for the development of oxide-based electronic devices.

BACKGROUND: Hemoglobin H (Hb H) disease is a moderate-to-severe form of α-thalassemia (α-thal), and parts of patients may require intermittent transfusion therapy, especially during intercurrent illness. However, rare Hb H diseases remain undetected using routine methods being outside of the testing scope. In this study, we present an approach to detecting Hb H disease by long molecule sequencing (LMS). METHODS: A total of 206 known genotype samples were collected and carried to blind detected by LMS on the PacBio Sequel platform. Circular consensus sequencing reads were aligned to the hg19 reference genome using Free-Bayes finished LMS. LMS accuracy would be compared with routine methods, including Gap-PCR and PCR-Reverse dot blot hybridization (PCR-RDB). RESULTS: The assay could detect carriers of both deletion and point mutations. It had an overall accuracy of 100% when compared with routine methods. In addition, LMS detected six mutations based on routine methods and corrected three case results. Hb H diseases were identified using LMS, whether a common or rare genotype, a deletion or non-deletion genotype. However, two cases of Hb H disease were misdiagnosed using routine methods. CONCLUSIONS: Long molecule sequencing can be suggested as a rapid and reliable assay to detect probable carriers of hemoglobinopathies. LMS accurately identified the common and rare genotypes of Hb H disease.

Histone lysine-specific demethylase 1(LSD1) has become a promising molecular target for lung cancer therapy. Upon the screening platform for LSD1 activity, some Chinese herbal extracts were screened for LSD1 activity inhibition, and the underlying mechanism was preliminarily investigated at both molecular and cellular levels. The results of LSD1 inhibition showed that Puerariae Lobatae Radix extract can effectively reduce LSD1 expression to elevate the expression of H3 K4 me2 and H3 K9 me2 substrates in H1975 and H1299 cells. Furthermore, Puerariae Lobatae Radix was evaluated for its anti-lung cancer activity. It had a potent inhibitory ability against the proliferation and colony formation of both H1975 and H1299 cells. Flow cytometry and DAPI staining assays indicated that Puerariae Lobatae Radix can induce the apoptosis of lung cancer cells. In addition, it can significantly suppress the migration and reverse the epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT) process of lung cancer cells by activating E-cadherin and suppressing the expression of N-cadherin, slug and vimentin. To sum up, Puerariae Lobatae Radix displayed a robust inhibitory activity against lung cancer, and the mechanism may be related to the down-regulation of LSD1 expression to induce the cell apoptosis and suppress the cell migration and EMT process. These findings will provide new insights into the action of Puerariae Lobatae Radix as an anti-lung cancer agent and offer new ideas for the study on the anti-cancer action of Chinese medicine based on the epigenetic modification.

Selenium is a trace element necessary for the growth of organisms. Moreover, selenium supplementation can improve the immunity and fertility of the body, as well as its ability to resist oxidation, tumors, heavy metals, and pathogenic microorganisms. However, owing to the duality of selenium, excessive selenium supplementation can cause certain toxic effects on the growth and development of the body and may even result in death in severe cases. At present, increasing attention is being paid to the development and utilization of selenium as a micronutrient, but its potential toxicity tends to be neglected. This study systematically reviews recent research on the toxicological effects of selenium, aiming to provide theoretical references for selenium toxicology-related research and theoretical support for the development of selenium-containing drugs, selenium-enriched dietary supplements, and selenium-enriched foods.

The chemical constituents from the stems and leaves of Clausena excavata were isolated and purified by column chromatography with silica gel, ODS, Sephadex LH-20 and RP-HPLC. The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were identified on the basis of physicochemical properties, spectroscopic analysis, as well as the comparisons with the data reported in literature. Nineteen compounds were isolated from the 90% ethanol extract of the stems and leaves of C. excavata, which were identified as methyl orsellinate(1), syringaresinol(2), lenisin A(3), scopoletin(4), osthenol(5), N-benzoyltyrarnine methyl ether(6), N-p-coumaroyltyramine(7), aurantiamide acetate(8), 1H-indole-3-carboxaldehyde(9), furostifoline(10), clausenalansine E(11), 3-formylcarbazole(12), clausine L(13), clausine E(14), methyl carbazole-3-carboxylate(15), glycosinin(16), murrayafoline A(17), clausine H(18) and 2,7-dihydroxy-3-formyl-1-(3'-methyl-2'-butenyl)carbazole(19). Among these isolated compounds, compounds 1-11 were isolated from C. excavata for the first time, and compounds 1, 2 and 10 were isolated from the genus Clausena for the first time. In addition, this study evaluated the anti-rheumatoid arthritis activities of compounds 1-19 by measuring their anti-proliferative effects on synoviocytes in vitro according to MTS method. Compounds 10-19 displayed remarkable anti-rheumatoid arthritis activities, which exhibited the inhibitory effects on the proliferation of MH7 A synovial fibroblast cells with the IC_(50) values ranging from(27.63±0.18) to(235.67±2.16) µmol·L~(-1).

OBJECTIVES: To understand the current status of appraisal of post-concussion syndrome disability and the reasons for the changes in re-appraisal opinions. METHODS: The cases that were judged as "post-concussion syndrome and ten-level disability" in the first appraisal and re-appraised for psychiatric impairment by the Academy of Forensic Science in 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. RESULTS: There were 75 cases, including 58 cases with pre-hospital emergency medical records, among which 39 cases were clearly recorded to be without a history of coma; 74 cases had emergency medical records, among which 44 cases were recorded of having a history of coma; 43 cases had follow-up medical records, among which 24 cases had a history of psychiatric follow-up. The most complained symptoms of the appraisee in appraisal and examination include headache, dizziness, poor sleep at night, irritability, memory loss, fatigue and inattention. The main reasons for the re-appraisal application include doubts about the history of coma, doubts about the credibility of mental symptoms, post-concussion syndrome didn't meet the disability criteria, and objections to the original appraisal procedure or the original appraisal agency. The appraisal opinions of a total of 47 cases were changed. Seven of them did not meet the disability criteria, and the main reason was that there was no clear history of coma and no head injury was admitted; the coma history of the 40 other cases had to be confirmed by the court before they can be clearly identified as disabilities. The reason was that the records about the history of coma were inconsistent or there were alterations and additional information. CONCLUSIONS: In the past, the conditions for appraisal of post-concussion syndrome disability were too lax and must be further standardized and strictly controlled.

A failure of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) to adhere to hematopoietic cells is an essential cause of the progression of chronic myelogenous leukemia and is also a cause of failure of bone marrow (BM) transplantation, but the exact mechanisms of this have not been fully elucidated. Recent studies have indicated that microRNAs (miRNAs) are contained in leukemia-derived exosomes and are involved in modulating the BM microenvironment. In this study, we found that K562 cell-derived exosomes transfer miR-711 to BM-MSCs and suppress the adhesive function of BM-MSCs. Using qRT-PCR, we also confirmed a significantly higher level of miR-711 in exosomes derived from K562 cells than in exosomes derived from parental cells. The BM-MSCs co-cultured with exosomes derived from K562 cells showed a lower adhesion rate than did controls. We further demonstrated that exosomal transfer of miR-711 induced decreased adhesive abilities by inhibiting expression of adhesion molecule CD44 in BM-MSCs. In conclusion, our study reveals that K562 cell-derived exosomal miR-711 can be transferred to BM-MSCs and weaken adhesive abilities by silencing the expression of the adhesion molecule CD44.

Hemangioblastoma (HB) is an abnormal intracranial buildup of blood vessels that exhibit a great potential for hemorrhage. Surgical options are limited, and few medications are available for treatment. We show here by immunohistochemical analysis that HB lesions display highly increased levels of VEGF expression and macrophage/microglia infiltration compared with those in normal brain tissues. In the meantime, TNF superfamily 15 (TNFSF15) (also known as vascular endothelial growth inhibitor), an antiangiogenic cytokine, is highly expressed in normal brain blood vessels but diminished in HB lesions. We set up a brain hemangioma model by using mouse bEnd.3 cells of a T antigen-transformed endothelial cell line that produce a large amount of VEGF. When implanted in mouse brains, these cells form lesions that closely resemble the pathologic characteristics of HB. Retroviral infection of bEnd.3 cells with TNFSF15 leads to inhibition of VEGF production and retardation of hemangioma formation. Similar results are obtained when wild-type bEnd.3 cells are implanted in the brains of transgenic mice overexpressing TNFSF15. Additionally, TNFSF15 treatment results in enhanced pericyte coverage of the blood vessels in the lesions together with reduced inflammatory cell infiltration and decreased hemorrhage. The development of high-efficiency and stable electrocatalysts is significant for energy conversion and storage. The oxygen evolution reaction (OER), a pivotal half reaction, is seriously limited in its practical applications due to its sluggish kinetics and thus an excellent electrocatalyst for OER is urgently required. In this paper, we design a novel Co3O4 nanomesh (Co3O4 NMs) with high density grain boundaries (GBs), which functions as a highly efficient and steady OER electrocatalyst. The optimal Co3O4 NMs-500 can achieve a low overpotential of 295 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm-2, and a small Tafel slope of 31 mV dec-1, which exceeds the commercial Ir/C, as well as the majority of other catalysts reported in the literature. The Co3O4 NMs-500 also exhibit promising durability, with a negligible decline in activity after 18 h of operation. Detailed studies indicate that the presence of GBs leads to more exposed active sites and the enhanced adsorption of intermediate species on Co3O4 NMs-500, thereby improving the OER's catalytic activity. This work not only relates to the activity-GBs relationship, but also opens up a unique perspective for the design of the next generation of electrocatalysts.

Two new prenylated chromones, artoheterophines A (1) and B (2), five known prenylated chromones (3-7), as well as five known biogenetically related prenylated flavonoids (8-12) were isolated and characterized from the stems and leaves of A. heterophyllus. Their chemical structures were unambiguously determined through comprehensive spectral data analyses. The antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory effects of all these isolated prenylated chromones and flavonoids were evaluated in vitro. As a result, compounds 1-12 showed notable inhibitory effects against various human cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 0.36 ± 0.02 to 22.09 ± 0.16 µM. Meanwhile, compounds 1-12 exhibited significant inhibitory activities on nitric oxide (NO) production holding IC50 values in the range of 0.48 ± 0.05-19.87 ± 0.21 µM. These research results suggest that the isolation and characterization of these prenylated chromones (1-7) and flavonoids (8-12) holding significant antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory activities could be significant to the discovery and development of new natural anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory drugs. The findings also provides a phytochemical evidence for further development and utilization of the stems and leaves of A. heterophyllus in health and pharmaceutical products.

The ß2-adrenergic receptor (ß2AR) has been a model system for understanding regulatory mechanisms of G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) actions and plays a significant role in cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. Because all known ß-adrenergic receptor drugs target the orthosteric binding site of the receptor, we set out to isolate allosteric ligands for this receptor by panning DNA-encoded small-molecule libraries comprising 190 million distinct compounds against purified human ß2AR. Here, we report the discovery of a small-molecule negative allosteric modulator (antagonist), compound 15 [([4-((2S)-3-(((S)-3-(3-bromophenyl)-1-(methylamino)-1-oxopropan-2-yl)amino)-2-(2-cyclohexyl-2-phenylacetamido)-3-oxopropyl)benzamide], exhibiting a unique chemotype and low micromolar affinity for the ß2AR. Binding of 15 to the receptor cooperatively enhances orthosteric inverse agonist binding while negatively modulating binding of orthosteric agonists. Studies with a specific antibody that binds to an intracellular region of the ß2AR suggest that 15 binds in proximity to the G-protein binding site on the cytosolic surface of the ß2AR. In cell-signaling studies, 15 inhibits cAMP production through the ß2AR, but not that mediated by other Gs-coupled receptors. Compound 15 also similarly inhibits ß-arrestin recruitment to the activated ß2AR. This study presents an allosteric small-molecule ligand for the ß2AR and introduces a broadly applicable method for screening DNA-encoded small-molecule libraries against purified GPCR targets. Importantly, such an approach could facilitate the discovery of GPCR drugs with tailored allosteric effects.

Biglycan (BGN) has been identified as one of the critical components of the tendon-derived stem cells (TDSCs) niche and may be related to tendon formation. However, so far, no study has demonstrated whether the soluble BGN could induce the tenogenic differentiation of TDSCs in vitro. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of BGN on the tenogenic differentiation of TDSCs. The proliferation and tenogenic differentiation of TDSCs exposed to different concentrations of BGN (0, 50, 100, and 500 ng/ml) were determined by the live/dead cell staining assay, CCK-8 assay, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), and western blot analysis. The BGN signaling pathway of TDSCs (with and without 50 ng/ml of BGN) was determined by western blot analysis and qRT-PCR analysis. At a concentration of 50 ng/ml, BGN increased the expression of the tenogenic markers THBS-4 and TNMD at both the messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein levels. Meanwhile, 50 ng/ml of BGN inhibited the expression of the chondrogenic and osteogenic markers SOX9, ACN, and RUNX2 at both the mRNA and protein levels. Moreover, BGN (50 ng/ml) affected the expression of the components of the extracellular matrix of TDSCs. Additionally, BGN activated the Smad1/5/8 pathway as indicated by an increase in phosphorylation and demonstrated by inhibition experiments. Upregulation in the gene expression of BMP-associated receptors (BMPRII, ActR-IIa, and BMPR-Ib) and Smad pathway components (Smad4 and 8) was observed. Taken together, BGN regulates tenogenic differentiation of TDSCs via BMP7/Smad1/5/8 pathway and this regulation may provide a basic insight into treating tendon injury.

BACKGROUND: Hb H disease is a serious type of α-thalassemia which cause moderate anemia while misdiagnosis by routine genetic analysis in a rare or novel Hb H disease. METHODS: The study was done on three patients and one fetus in a suspected Hb H disease family. Hb analysis was carried out using capillary electrophoresis (CE), and hematological analysis was conducted with an automated cell counter. Common α- and ß-thalassemia mutations were detected by routine genetic analysis (gap-PCR and RDB-PCR). Novel mutation diagnostic methods were based on DNA sequencing. RESULTS: Capillary electrophoresis revealed clinical feature of classic Hb H disease in the proband, and hematology analysis showed moderate anemia (Hb 87 g/L). But routine genetic analysis was found that it was only a heterozygote for the --SEA deletion. DNA sequencing of α-globin genes (α1 and α2) identified the breakpoints between nts 34162 and 34171 at α2 gene, named CD 90-93 (-AGCTTCGG) mutation. The genotype of proband and fetus was the same --SEA /-αCD90-93 . His father was homozygous for the novel mutation (-αCD90-93 /-αCD90-93 ), and his mother was heterozygote for the --SEA deletion. CONCLUSIONS: Our study for the first time described the novel mutation CD 90-93 (-AGCTTCGG). CE is a way to avoid misdiagnosis of rare or novel Hb H disease.
