RESUMO

ZnO nanomaterials with controlled size, shape and surface chemistry are required for applications in diverse areas, such as optoelectronics, photocatalysis, biomedicine and so on. Here, we report on ZnO nanostructures with rod-like and spherical shapes prepared via laser ablation in liquid using a laser with millisecond-long pulses. By changing laser parameters (such as pulse width and peak power), the size or aspect ratio of such nanostructures could be tuned. The surface chemistry and defects of the products were also strongly affected by applied laser conditions. The preparation of different structures is explained by the intense heating of liquid media caused by millisecond-long pulses and secondary irradiation of already-formed nanostructures.

RESUMO

We report on a polarimetry of harmonic mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser with carbon nanotubes saturable absorber. We find new types of vector solitons with locked, switching and precessing states of polarization. The underlying physics presents interplay between birefringence of a laser cavity created by polarization controller along with light induced anisotropy caused by polarization hole burning.

RESUMO

Homogeneous dispersion of plant food pigments is indispensable to study their characteristic fluorescence features for non-destructive rapid monitoring of food systems. However, it is highly challenging to obtain such optical grade homogenized stable dispersion of various plant pigments in aqueous media for tracing their precise fluorescence signatures. Herein, we demonstrate a unique strategy to disperse various pigments, such as chlorophylls, carotenoids and phenolic compounds by the high-speed shear-force mixing of fresh green and red bell peppers (Capsicum annuum) in an aqueous medium with followed centrifugation and filtration. An advanced FLuorescence Excitation-emission (FLE) mapping and optical absorption analysis from the optical grade aqueous bell peppers dispersion allow simultaneous probing of chlorophylls, phenolic compounds and carotenoids by their characteristic electronic transitions. The demonstrated sampling protocols and spectroscopic analysis will be highly beneficial to obtain advanced spectroscopic databases from different food materials for rapid food analysis and quality control.

RESUMO

We study the molecular mechanisms of alkali halide ion interactions with the single-wall carbon nanotube surface in water by means of fully atomistic molecular dynamics simulations. We focus on the basic physical-chemical principles of ion-nanotube interactions in aqueous solutions and discuss them in light of recent experimental findings on selective ion effects on carbon nanotubes.

RESUMO

Three-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid halide perovskites have been demonstrated as great materials for applications in optoelectronics and photonics. However, their inherent instabilities in the presence of moisture, light, and heat may hinder their commercialization. Alternatively, emerging two-dimensional (2D) organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have recently attracted increasing attention owing to their great environmental stability and inherent natural quantum-well structure. In this work, we have synthesized a high-quality long-chain organic diammonium spacer assisted 2D hybrid perovskite FA-(N-MPDA)PbBr4 (FA = formamidinium and N-MPDA = N-methylpropane-1,3-diammonium) by the slow evaporation at constant temperature method. The millimeter-sized single-crystalline microrods demonstrate low threshold random lasing behavior at room temperature. The single-crystalline 2D hybrid perovskite random laser achieved a very narrow linewidth (∼0.1 nm) with a low threshold (∼0.5 µJ cm-2) and a high quality factor (∼5350). Furthermore, the 2D hybrid microrod laser shows stable lasing emission with no measurable degradation after at least 2 h under continuous illumination, which substantially proves the stability of 2D perovskites. Our results demonstrate the promise of 2D organic-inorganic microrod-shaped perovskites and provide an important step toward the realization of high-performance optoelectronic devices.

RESUMO

Enzyme-functionalized dual-peak long-period fiber grating (LPFG) inscribed in 80 - ? m -cladding B/Ge codoped single-mode fiber is presented for sugar-level and specific glucose detection. Before enzyme functionalization, the dual-peak LPFG was employed for refractive index sensing and sugar-level detection and high sensitivities of ? 4298.20 ?? nm / RIU and 4.6696 ?? nm / % were obtained, respectively. Glucose detection probe was attained by surface functionalization of the dual-peak LPFG via covalent binding with aminopropyl triethoxysilane used as a binding site. Optical micrographs confirmed the presence of enzyme. The surface-functionalized dual-peak LPFG was tested with D-(+)-glucose solution of different concentrations. While the peak 2 at the longer wavelength was suitable only to measure lower glucose concentration (0.1 to 1.6 ?? mg / ml ) recording a high sensitivity of 12.21 ± 0.19 ?? nm / ( mg / ml ) , the peak 1 at the shorter wavelength was able to measure a wider range of glucose concentrations (0.1 to 3.2 ?? mg / ml ) exhibiting a maximum resonance wavelength shift of 7.12 ± 0.12 ?? nm / mg / ml . The enzyme-functionalized dual-peak LPFG has the advantage of direct inscription of highly sensitive grating structures in thin-cladding fibre without etching, and most significantly, its sensitivity improvement of approximately one order of magnitude higher than previously reported LPFG and excessively tilted fibre grating (Ex-TFG) for glucose detection.

RESUMO

Two fundamental laser physics phenomena--dissipative soliton and polarisation of light are recently merged to the concept of vector dissipative soliton (VDS), viz. train of short pulses with specific state of polarisation (SOP) and shape defined by an interplay between anisotropy, gain/loss, dispersion, and nonlinearity. Emergence of VDSs is both of the fundamental scientific interest and is also a promising technique for control of dynamic SOPs important for numerous applications from nano-optics to high capacity fibre optic communications. Using specially designed and developed fast polarimeter, we present here the first experimental results on SOP evolution of vector soliton molecules with periodic polarisation switching between two and three SOPs and superposition of polarisation switching with SOP precessing. The underlying physics presents an interplay between linear and circular birefringence of a laser cavity along with light induced anisotropy caused by polarisation hole burning.
